think cannibalism should be a thing in menzoberranzan actually, or maybe it is and I haven’t known about it, but it should be a thing amongst the nobles where they eat rival lolth priestesses since they’re lolth’s fave sacrifices anyway. like if we’re all constantly vying for lolth’s approval, and you have these people who actually has her blessing (which is rare) why not….eat them….😳. like eating the priestess of a rival house would be a ritual after you’ve succeeded in bringing their house down as a way to consume lolth’s blessing, and its def an intimidation tactic and def one of the plenty weird shit nobles have done for the sake of playing their power games. maybe they eat males who are in power too if they’ve overstepped their position to remind them of their place in the hierarchy, or maybe matriarchs/nobles eat their favourite bed mate/partner so no one else can have them, kind of like actual spiders. anyway. if menzoberranzan is this immoral lethal and ruthless place cannibalism should def be a thing lol
#I don’t think shri’iia has ate someone tho…. she wasn’t exactly a noble#like my belief is the further away you are from the power game (nobility) the more of a ‘normal’ life you’ll lead#bc you’re not exactly playing The Game. but the normal is like whatever they considered normal down there#obvi it’ll still be dangerous since the city itself is dangerous but it’s less risky than if you actually were in the noble houses#and you’re actively plotting with each other. also with drows lifespans being relatively shorter compared to elves#bc they’re always trying to kill each other like WHY NOT eat each other too!!#let evil women eat people 🗣️🗣️🗣️‼️#shri’iia being hidden away is a blessing bc the reason why she’s managed to surpass the average drow lifespan is that she was just locked#off from society and a curse bc she’s going through the psychological torture while she’s isolated lol#anyway. do hc drow nobles eat each other 🫶 and I think slaves/lowborn folks eat each other too esp if food is scarce#but it’s more common in nobility since it’s more of a power play than survival.#firm believer that not a lot of great houses gaf about the welfare of their common people#as long as they served them and did their jobs then they’re fine. who cares if they’re starving#and if they revolted they’d prob get put down. public executions would b a common thing too esp from that book in the drow cache#where punishments should be public… tho that was with lolth traitors I think the definition of traitor could be stretched to anyone who#doesn’t follow their doctrine and I think that word is loosely applied down there and if you want to frame someone with no repercussions#you can just accuse them of betraying lolth and they’ll get punished right away.

For the reverse unpopular opinion meme: Shadowgast fanfic tropes!
!!!!! I absolutely absolutely love how the flexibility of their dynamic is reflected in the breadth of tropes people apply to them effectively!! They're readily capable of gritty angst and crystalline doublespeak and marshmallow fluff and impeccable humor and there's so many clever and creative ways to express them :3
Some specific tropes! (thank you @quinn-of-aebradore and @rainbowcaleb for the list :D)
Aeor hurt/comfort: Truly wizards in their natural habitat with all the weird magic and secrets and dangers and isolation and excitement. I consider Aeor wizard dates (round 1 especially) to be the SG equivalent of getting stuck in a cabin during a deadly blizzard, only the cabin is also trying to kill them.
Fugitive Essek/Adventurer Essek: Whether post-canon explorations or AU shenanigans, I love the idea of Essek trying new things, and what's newer than a life of adventure :D shout out to the hurt/comfort variety and especially a hurt Essek turning up on Caleb's doorstep. Let Caleb stretch those caretaking skills \o/
Professor Widogast: SLICE OF LIFE MY BELOVED. I adore imagining Caleb's post-canon day-to-day and love seeing how people blend his past, his present work against the Assembly, and his future working with students. I love the kids people make as his students and I love it when Essek gets written as a substitute or visiting cat or is somehow involved in teaching alongside Caleb :3
Essek knits: I've always loved the thought of Essek having some sort of a string/yarn/thread creative pastime, so seeing him knitting in fic makes my heart very warm and I looooove when Caleb gets his knitted scarves.
Trancing/sleeping together: gimme the weird 'dreams', gimme the threshold of consciousness, gimme the 'I know you're watching over me rn and I'm going to pretend I don't notice so you won't stop', gimme the 'how can you lay down to die every night', gimme the 'Essek reads while Caleb sleeps'. Good good stuff.
Telepathy/shared dreams: it's the drift compatibility of it all... I also really like this when it's taken in a 'you stared into my soul and for once did not flinch when you saw yourself staring back' direction.
Misuse of magic: They're wizards. They're experimentalists. Testing the limits of magic and their arcane abilities is part of their job description and it seems very them to get creative with spells both for utility and for fun :3
Timeline mishaps (and subsequent fix-its): Essek is a time wizard, Caleb wanted to change his past; there's sooooo much interesting stuff to dig through with this and so much can go wrong. Maybe they fix the T-Dock but get stuck in the past, maybe they make a time spell and erase the present as they know it, maybe they're summoning echoes who are themselves from a different point in time or maybe from an AU all their own. I also like it when they can wiggle their way back home.
-
Thank you for the ask! :D

long ramble in tags tldr: kindness rules
#was it genocide that got them to the human world or was it her kindness and promise at the expense of her past#who was ultimately the reason the goldy pond kids were able to survive and escape#who got stabbed by a demon and was in a coma for four weeks trying to protect her newfound family#ultimately shifting his perspective on humans and hunting in general and becoming a driving force in their efforts for freedom#who became best friends with the literal ''evil blooded girl'' and was able to come up with a sound solution to demons needing human meat#in order to maintain their forms#do you think norman would be happier knowing he had to be the sacrificial lamb killing children with his bare hands and fully executing it#do you think ray would be happier if emma had simply let him die instead of giving him a firm dose of reality and helping him to#live a life full of love and support and kindness#of course she isnt perfect and i most definitely would change a lot of things if i could but this is just one of the many comments i see#when youre blinded by hatred you cant think objectively#i understand that norman went through freakish amounts of hell but to put it in my perspective: if i were a demon#i highly doubt that i would fully understand how intelligent humans truly are#you know those videos of people boiling crabs alive and saying ''it doesnt hurt them''#there would probably be a lot of rhetoric around that nature and all i would know is eat human fingertip = go play tag#so why would my parents deserve to die? what difference is there between cattle like pigs and cows in our world to humans in theirs?#anyways. im sorry for liking stories where kindness prevails and opens doors to opportunities previously thought imaginable#i hate constantly seeing this stuff when looking up tpn and it irks me it really does

some of the key differences i find between 90s melodrama 2+ hour blockbusters and the 2010s-2020s version:
they are largely original screenplays, with some based on real life or a short story/book. none of them are about literal superheros
its still majority practical effects, especially in the early 90s when spaz williams & co were the only people able to do it on any kind of scale
things Move, but towards a singular point. there are side-plots and lots of characters, but they are balanced. minor roles are minor but treated with civility. character actors are able to shine without overtaking
and there is space left for the film to breathe!!! It's not constantly hitting me over the head with something new. in backdraft, theres a ton of shots of just fire. there's a world built around the action/melodrama. there's actual rewatch-ability because its not just a list of plot points. there's Feelings and Acting and Cinematography.
quips are used for emphasis and mostly by certain characters. AND THEY ARE PLOT RELEVANT. they hint at something, planting the idea of an absurd twist/plot-point later.
shot on film <3
soundtracks are designed to sell as their own product aka they are a good.
there's always a chance of wilford brimley showing up

I was wondering, when it's pride month would McPhee decorate the whole company in rainbows or just celebrate even a little? And if so how would Octavius react?
oh my god that is such a cute idea. i definitely think the firm leans into stuff like that purely because that's what Big Firms do in order to make themselves look good. the firm probably would do something or other (even if it's just a fundraiser) for pride month. and octavius during pride month is like a closeted lesbian teenager walking past a lingerie store. he feels very uncomfortable and awkward about stuff like that and he's also VERY weird about the concept of very loud and proud queer people. it's so unfathomable to him and he's kind of jealous but also a little annoyed by it in his weird closeted loser kind of way. he would definitely keep his head down during the whole thing and pray for it to pass quickly the poor lamb that he is

What We Want Our Future Leaders To Know
What will make a future leader successful? I explored this in my piece, *Portrait of a Future Leader, published as part of Upwork’s Work: Reimagined series on Medium. Really getting down to the nitty-gritty of how major workforce trends will affect leaders was exciting. But I don’t know everything.
What will make a future leader successful? I explored this in my piece, *Portrait of a Future Leader, published as part of Upwork’s Work: Reimagined series on Medium. Really getting down to the nitty-gritty of how major workforce trends will affect leaders was exciting. But I don’t know everything.
I would love for you to weigh in— what’s one quality a future leader absolutely must have?
It turns out we have some of the same ideas. Here are five qualities that I believe are imperative for future leaders, and the valuable perspectives of my peers.
1. High Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
What does a leader with a high EQ look like? They’re curious about people they don’t know, aware of their strengths and weaknesses, skilled in active listening, and aware of their own emotional states, enabling them to respond rather than react.
The qualities that indicate a high EQ are also valued by my peers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The qualities that indicate a high EQ are also valued by my peers.
Tumblr media
I appreciate Susan bringing up compassion, a quality that in the past may have been viewed as a weakness in leaders. A teenager recently asked me how to improve his EQ. I told him to practice kindness and compassion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may be asking, isn’t a high EQ important for our current leaders? Yes, it is very important. But in the future, organizations will not be as centralized, and hierarchy will diminish in importance. Leaders will be constantly creating and dismantling teams to complete projects, which requires a strong understanding of building and maintaining relationships.
Another important part of relationship building and maintenance is being a proponent of a purpose-driven strategy and culture.
2. Proponent of a Purpose-Driven Strategy and Culture
The purpose at work is a major driver for the future of work. Leaders will measure success on more than profit and loss.
Last year, Aaron Hurst, author of The Purpose Economy, wrote in The Guardian that we’re “experiencing the rise of the fourth economy in our history, in which a sense of purpose is recognized as a critical human need and driver of innovation.”
He explained that this critical human need was sacrificed in the industrial and technological economies in order to maximize efficiency and scale.
So how does a future leader create a purpose-driven strategy and culture? It starts with valuing more than just profit. He or she must also prioritize the personal development of employees, along with the sense of purpose that each employee embodies, all while continuing to focus on tangible deliverables like targeted goals and bottom-line commitments.
Personal development is also a key to being a successful future leader. The desire to learn is a must.
3. Lifelong Learning
We’ve all witnessed how quickly technology has changed the fabric of our world. The increasing global pace of growth only adds to that rapid-fire change. In order to keep pace, a leader must be constantly learning. Whether this happens in the form of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) or peer-to-peer information exchange is irrelevant. What matters is that the leader of the future wants to learn on a continual basis and prioritizes this need for education.
Tumblr media
I agree with Kathleen. Yet many leaders say they don’t have time to learn new skills. So how can organizations instill a sense of constant learning in the cultural DNA? This is an important question to answer as we move into the future of work.
Tumblr media
Learning goes beyond mastering the latest technology trends. The demographic makeup of the future workforce is going to be different, requiring leaders to learn to be more culturally aware and able to eliminate bias and discrimination.
4. Diverse to the Core
Future leaders are not straight, white, and male by default. So say goodbye to ‘pale, male, and stale’ and hello to diversity.
Today, only 3.8% of the CEOs at Fortune 500 companies are minorities. This, is despite minorities making up a full 36% of the American workforce. In the future, what we consider minorities will be the majority of consumers, clients, employees, and leaders. This requires that the leaders of the future understand their diverse employees and consumers.
5. Entrepreneurial Mindset
Our new workforce will function as more of an ecosystem than a pyramid, so leaders of the future need to have an entrepreneurial mindset; they need to be agile and innovative. Their ability to pivot, pull teams together quickly, and exhibit out-of-the-box thinking will influence their success in a decentralized structure that is constantly evolving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jennifer and Paul make a good point. Part of being entrepreneurial is pulling together people who will fill the gaps in your abilities, inspire you, and take you to the next level. There is no room for feeling threatened in the future of work. Entrepreneurs need to be too good to ignore.
Tumblr media
Outside of the five qualities I believe exemplify our future leaders, Mike brings a valid quality to the table.
Tumblr media
Leaders of the future will be facing an exciting and ever-evolving workplace and economic landscape. If they do not believe in themselves, they will become daunted by all of the change happening around them. A leader needs to create a vision that people believe in and want to contribute to. That takes confidence.
There’s a tsunami of change ahead but the changes will deeply enrich the culture of organizations. With a high EQ, purpose-driven motivation, a love of learning, a deep interest in diversity, and an entrepreneurial mindset, the leaders of the future will surely thrive.
Now it’s your turn.  What’s one quality a future leader absolutely must have? I can’t wait to continue the discussion.

Leadership And The Lost Art Of Listening
I heard Richard Branson on the Diane Rehm show, and he spoke about something extremely important for successful leadership: listening. I find Branson’s comments on listening to be spot-on:
“I think not enough business leaders know the art of listening. They love to hear their own voices. And I was fortunate to learn from a young age that other people — by listening to other people, you learn an awful lot more than by listening to yourself.” — Richard Branson
From my experience, listening is a lost art. This holds true particularly for leaders and entrepreneurs.
Why don’t leaders listen? Though Branson jokes that they love to hear their own voices, there are two main reasons. For one, we are never taught how to carefully listen. And secondly, society sets leaders and entrepreneurs up to be expected to have all the answers.
In this clip from my interview with Cornell University, I talk about the three levels of listening, and how leaders can develop relationships and trust if they are able to use all three. I also talk about how important it is for leaders to ask questions. Asking and listening go hand in hand.
Do you find that you are good at fully listening to others? Is listening to a challenge for you? I’d love to hear your ideas about why listening may be difficult for leaders. Also, if you have experience working on your listening skills, let us know what steps you have taken.
Read the full transcript of Richard Branson’s interview on the Diane Rehm here.

tfw you’re the only truly competent person on your team so you have to take on all of the shit the others can’t be trusted with because they’ll almost definitely fuck it up
and on top of that you get a special assignment from the boss that’s going to be very difficult and time-consuming but will be an incredibly big deal if you pull it off

I don't think they're going full Dynasty Warriors, but given the game is specifically supposed to cover everything between 6 and 7 and 8 (and is, you know, called LaD7 Gaiden and takes place in Hama and Soten), it makes sense to me crowds would be a big deal. Because the climactic fight for Kiryu in Sotenbori in that timeframe would be the Omi HQ fight and that was visibly one of the most crowded battles in RGG history and is only experienced in bite-sized pieces in Y7 because of the turn-based system.
Plus, Kiryu's never really had any big crowd control moments outside of maybe Y5 (in which the MASSIVE fight at the end of his part is one of the most well-loved fights in the series), but with Agent's electric bind wires and other gadgets, there's definitely more to play around with along those lines that would benefit from big crowds and the Dragon Engine's seamlessness.
This is also why I don't fault anyone at all for thinking fan favorites would show up, because for the Omi HQ fight, you've necessarily got Ichi's party, you've got the Jimas, you've got Watase, you've even got Arakawa. Wouldn't that be something... to get to see all of them fight in real time...
Plus, even if Gaiden doesn't want to tread old ground, there is still a "missing scene" in the form of Kiryu's group getting attacked by Omi remnants, as Arakawa mentioned. They only got to hang out and catch up off-screen, so it's pretty perfectly set up to be explored in Gaiden. I wanna see him and Daigo reconnect goddammit...
yeah no i dont think they'll go for a dynasty warriors type beat either, it was only that someone mentioned the possibility that had me tryin to imagine what thatd be like
i actually had Y5's crowd fight in mind when thinkin' bout it and that's why i thought the crowd situation was so bizarre compared to how that crowd was executed
