Military life was filled with insecure and obnoxious assholes. Hell, even before his time in the military Kaidan had been dealing with actual dickheads his entire life, there was always going to be someone with a smart mouth who couldn't go a day without causing trouble or making fun of someone different. This was no different when the team was on shore leave on the Citadel and some smart mouthed random soldiers who thought they were tough shit for getting their first deployments decided to poke fun at him when he was nursing a migraine and trying to keep quiet. Had none gone over well, and when he didn't respond to their gang up in the way they wanted they shifted focus and decided to call him a string of rude things, including that he was as interesting as a paper bag. The visual did amuse him, but by the time the gang had left and he met up with Ashley for lunch he was long over the confrontation, and had only relayed the event to Ash when she asked how his day had gone . . . a mistake apparently since his best friend was ready to find them and attack like some sort of hound.

He loved Ash with his entire heart, and her devotion, loyalty and protective streak were all admirable qualities, but it only took the smallest of smiles and a poke from his chopsticks to hopefully snuff out the fire that had immediately burned behind her eyes. I know I keep saying this but I physically can't see him being anything but extremely proud of his partner and wanting to show you off at any chance he can, no matter how silent you are

If you're up to it, sit with him at meetings and follow him around when he runs errands this man LOVES your company!

As such, he doesn't mind your silence. In fact, he thinks it's endearing, and will find alternative ways for you to communicate that make you the most comfortable
