BORDERLANDS 4- the lore so far

a post compiling all the tidbits from the trailers/descriptions, about everything we know about the story (so far).

wanted to make this post because i may be borderlands' biggest hater, but this new stuff looks really intriguing so far! call me optimistic but i'm definitely interested for now...

(speculation/theorizing involved here. i'm not actually 100% knowledgeable on all the lore but this is just what i'm gathering from it. if it turns out to be true then i called it here first <3)

so here's the timeline we know so far:

-> At the end of Borderlands 3, Elpis is crashing into Pandora. To save everyone (on both places), Lilith flies up and teleports Elpis away. Presumably, just like Sanctuary in BL2, she can't exactly control where it goes.

-> Where it happens to go is the planet of Kairos: a planet hidden in space- it's insinuated that the "protective barrier" surrounding the planet (made of glass?) turned it invisible. Or at least undetectable.

-> This "revealed" Kairos to the universe. Elpis presumably has been pulled in and is now orbiting Kairos.

-> Kairos is currently being controlled by "The Timekeeper." The Timekeeper is not a PERSON, but rather an Eridian Guardian. AKA... A Vault Monster.

-> This is explicitly stated in one of Nyriad's diary entries from BL3. She mentions the Timekeeper by name as an "Eridian Creation," in the likes of Graveward (BL3) and the Traveller (TFTBL). It's also obvious by the images above that it isn't Human- it has robotic limbs, floats, and seemingly harnesses/is connected to the Vault Gate behind it.

-> The Timekeeper is described as a dictator obsessed with Perfect Order, furthering the idea that this hidden planet was in a perfect state of "Order," with only the Timekeeper + its "synthetic" army. Remnants of whatever Eridian Society created it, and hid it away, for whatever reason.

-> Elpis crashing into Kairos, and breaking the barrier, has enraged the Timekeeper, who's planet is now visible to the galaxy. And a big hole in the ceiling of it's house. Damn.

-> It's confirmed there's a few years' time-skip between the crashing of Elpis and the start of the game. The SCAVS of Elpis (and bandits of Pandora most likely, however they hitched a ride) have now made their way to the surface of Kairos and are causing mayhem. They seem way more mechanical in nature than the last time we saw Elpis, but similar vibes. Very tech-y, robotic, etc. -> These bandits become their own faction known as "The Rippers," and their leader is a robot lady named Callis.

-> Queen Callis is shown in the trailer to ALSO be not human (robot? something else? Kairos's influence, or Elpis tech? who knows.) But apparently she also has the power to control the bandits, through their masks. She puts the masks on them and their eyes turn red, matching hers. So it's possible she's just mind controlling every bandit.

-> Anyways, it's a "robo-bandit" VS. "synthetic Eridian" civil war deal. The Timekeeper appears to be attempting to subjugate the entire planet again, especially based on all the "break free" wording of the teaser descriptions. Whether you're fighting WITH Callis's army or just as a third party, it appears the Vault Hunters are from Elpis (or, were on Elpis when it got yoinked at the very least). And they're trying to escape this planet. -> The last description does mention "cast of characters, new AND old," so it remains to be seen in what capacity old characters are involved. It IS a time-skip, so maybe Sanctuary finally tracked down Lilith's whereabouts and she's stranded on Elpis. Maybe Ava is an adult now and leading the Crimson Raiders. Maybe the whole "Timekeeper" business means there will be timeline fuckery- pulling alternate timeline versions of old characters, bringing back dead ones, who knows.

-> (I'M PERSONALLY INCLINED TO BELIEVE that Sasha and Fiona will also play a role in this game? Because New Tales called specific attention to Sasha being in a different part of the galaxy unable to be found (hidden planet? wink wink?), and Fiona's talk of Sasha's anahatium pocketwatch, with the etched phrase "TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS.")

-> (Who knows if that is true, or what that really means. Just speculation here. I miss Sasha and Fiona, and they've been hyped up with BL3 Echoes, New Tales stuff, and even their own book. Give us the two best Borderlands characters back please.)

-> Last thing as an aside, it DOES show that we will be getting a Siren VH again. So she either needs to have Steele's unknown power, the Leech power, or some secret third thing. Maybe she isn't a real siren at all. The device on her arm could either be a way to REPLICATE a siren's power (like Anu, making her a "fake siren") or possibly as a way to enhance/contain the Leech power, like Tyreen alludes to in BL3. Interested to find out.

TLDR: we're finally getting the Eridian War plotline! They didn't forget guys! AND it directly involves Elpis, like the game where we first learned about the Eridian War!

Synthetic "Eridian" army led by a Vault Guardian/Monster, THE TIMEKEEPER, vs. the robotic bandit army, the Rippers, led by QUEEN CALLIS. Time-skip again (intrigued to see how long this time. It's canonically been at LEAST two years since BL3.) New + Old characters. New Eridian planet, like Nekrotafeyo. 4 New VH's, either FROM Elpis, or wayward travelers who accidentally crashed onto Kairos.

Hello, could you do a Rottmnt headcanon of what kind of relationship Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey would be?

Headcanon: The reader might need 4 rings in the future since they couldn't decide on one turtle. (Requested prompt)

A/N: sorry for bringing up watt/pad again but, I did at least a couple of oneshots towards the reader in a poly relationship with the guys. So I had a bit of deja vu seeing this type of prompt again (probably around 5 years of writing) but anyway...

One last note: It was a bit difficult to understand the wording towards this particular ask. I already had some unpleasant interactions with "those fans" so I hesitated for a bit with this one.

So please double check your asks before sending it because I don't want to end up with another semi-hiatus because of asks that were out of my control...

Leo

He honestly wasn't expecting you to make the first move.

And tbh, he kept pacing around his room by the time the new feelings bonked him on the head. Like "Ooooh no... (Y/N)'s actually really really really cute..."

Surprisingly, he went to Splinter for advice. Part of his soul left his body when the rat man explained the importance of that special relationship in a lovey dovey manner. But, actually listened slowly realizing Splinter's previous relationships ended in failure. Especially with how things are with Splinter and Big Mama.

Its close to the end of the week when you suggest that idea to date all four of them. And you were very much taken back that he's okay with it. Though he can't promise not to be jealous from time to time. But, he and his brothers will make sure not to break your heart and will swear by it.

- More likely to do surprise visits (or alerting you with a text that he's dropping by for a few minutes. sometimes close to an hour or more if he's not really in the mood for a night patrol)

- Accidentally starts light hearted competitions with him and his brothers trying to impress you. He's still gonna be a showboat but tones it down the moment you pretend to ignore him.

- He's a bit insane and brave with the idea of wanting to meet your family members (the ones that you feel comfortable with). Or towards people that have been there for you in those darker times. Aside from April and his future self being close to a guardian figure to Casey Jr. And the brief time he and his family had with Karai, might be the reasons why he wants to reach out more. Mostly starting small though since the mental scar from the Krang and Shredder really changed him as a person.

Its usually Mikey or Donnie that challenge the red slider turtle to a friendly game on winning your affection. And when he's not feeling up to it, he just waits when Raph's turn is over and asks for your TLC (tender loving care).

Despite the horrors, he's still the same ol whiner. And will probably latch on to you with the most saddest eyes. That you're luckily immune to as you hold hands with one of his brothers for the start of the next week. Donnie has used a spray bottle with water at him and still does it even when its not his turn.

Raph

Very confused about the idea and trying to make sense of it.

It might be close to a few weeks where he finally understands. (mainly asking from April because his brothers can make it sound more confusing)

He hasn't really thought that much about the existential dread of the mutant/human relationship until seeing either Leo or Donnie silently anxious about it. Like the alligator snapping turtle is always more focused on keeping his family safe. And with you as a partner (and potential future spouse) being shared with him and the rest of his brothers. Mind Raph is pestering him even more just to say it out loud than just waiting for you to lead the relationship.

He'll eventually get used to it and given his oldest brother status. Takes it with ease being more patient compared to their high energy.

- Doesn't realize he acts like a "proper gentleman" (or gentleturtle as Donnie would say) when Raph opens the door for you while you're carrying boxes or something. Or offers to help you with the heavy lifting. Even Splinter calls him out on that behavior.

- When its his turn dating you, you get immediate "dibs" on everything. He plays very innocent with you but on his brothers. They always work together on a prank back at him for being annoying about it.

- Tends to look at your hands sometimes. He blushes thinking about how soft it feels around his face and lightly tracing around where its safe to touch his spiky shell.

While he always has good intentions, his brothers heavily hate the 'chaperone or third wheel checking in on the date idea'.

- It's mostly brought at least once a month and the trio usually try to tell you ahead of time before it happens again.

He'll be slightly grumpy whenever the trio share a single brain cell about a really stupid thing that he won't get.

- And he'll whine for a bit if you end up taking their side so, just take his side to save him from another wrinkle on his Raph chasm.

Donnie

He's silently making a fuss about it during the first month.

And a bit at himself, for waiting so long to ask you out. Before you went ahead with the bold move of "I don't want you guys to fight over me so... Is it okay if I date all four of you?"

It takes him a long while to get used to it. Or when Dr Feelings notices the softshell turtle not being open and honest about this relationship with you.

However once he's fully settled in, a very charming and laidback sort of relationship.

- I always get the vibe he uses 'dearest or darling' as his term of affection towards you. (His brothers used to tease him about it but, on days where bad luck decided to give this turtle a break and more on them. They're pleading for your help and whether you want to add fuel to that fire. That's on you)

- To me, he has that dramatic hopeless romantic energy. The only difference he pulls it off better than the dense couples in rom com movies/shows. With the amount of words he knows, at least a few or almost all of his compliments at you will send your heart into a flutter.

- At least every now and then, he'll try to dazzle you with something. Either one of his incredible inventions or surprising you with your favorite thing. (He'll boldly insist he was a step ahead getting it as a surprise. Even though his brothers actually chipped in to avoid another "The Purple Game" incident)

He sort of has a friendly rivalry with Leo on trying to make you laugh.

- If he starts to gloat about it, especially winning with the claim "Told you I was the funniest."

You kissing the softshell turtle's lips will instantly shut him down. use that power wisely

He unfortunately has jealousy issues by the time his turn is up.

- Like pretending to give the cold shoulder until you need help with something he's an expert at.

Mikey

Very much the mature one taking this relationship seriously.

Even though it took a few days with Donnie's help to get a better understanding of your idea of the poly relationship.

Dr Feelings and Dr Delicate Touch are working overtime because of these dumb dumbs sometimes.

Despite that, absolutely the sweetest turtle boyfriend. (and best future turtle husband material out of the four of them)

- While he has the Lou Jitsu charm, Mikey's bundle of sunshine is a whole another level. You can't help but, slowly break into a smile from his toothy grin.

- If you're the type who takes a long while to warm up to pda. He'll mostly stick to handholding and ask whenever you want a hug or kiss from him. (He's definitely more warm as a result of the mystic fire-based energy and ninpo that just naturally went with the flow towards him. So you sometimes fall asleep on his shoulder without realizing it)

- More likely to make any boring task you dread doing into a fun adventure. You both have matching hats from a previous grocery trip and pretended it was a mission from one of the Jupiter Jim comics.

His brothers were totally not jelly about it.

Very much tries to hide his embarrassment from his brothers suggesting 'better date ideas' to the best of his ability. He glared a few times at Raph with the chaperone idea. The usual youngest not getting along with the oldest brother sort of deal. So whenever you're around, the biggest sign is a strained smile on his face while lying that everything is okey-dokey.

- He almost clamped his shell shut when Splinter immediately disapproved the ideas with something even more embarrassing.

The only downside is he might go to some extreme lengths with how stubborn his brothers act.

- So you might need additional help from Splinter or April to prevent a new doctor persona along the lines of Dr Chaos.

Cesar shrugged and went to take a hot bath. His brain was buzzing with the pleasant dopamine of erotic release. He was fully aware of his tendency to think with the wrong head, but he was regrettably incorrigible in this regard. He figured it would be in everyone’s best interest if he at least got her to stop crying. He inhaled deeply, then shouted as loud as he could project his voice, “BIANCA!” 

Gio and Graham stiffened, peering out from under their pillows. Bianca cringed and her sobs halted, reduced to pathetic sniffles. She slowly raised her head and turned around, her eyes swollen and puffy. “Huh?” 

“Let’s talk.” 

Bianca raised herself into a sitting position, repositioning her dress with humiliation around her legs. “What?” 

“Take me out of here so we can talk face-to-face.” 

Bianca blew her nose with a tissue and wiped the nonstop leakage from her tear ducts. “Why? You hate me, just like everyone else. What’s the point?” 

Cesar planted his hands on his hips with exasperation. “Would you just do it, woman?! You always have to make everything so difficult!” 

The princess huffed but opened the roof. The two others cowered in their beds as she lowered her enormous hand to collect the fearless man. She deposited him in her lap, wrapping her fingers around him and tousling his curly locks, still damp from his bath, with an elegant fingertip. As annoyed as Cesar was with her constant immaturity, abandoning her felt wrong. He settled down on her squishy, plump thigh. “What’s this about?” 

“Bianca, I know you’re upset that nobody likes you. But have you stopped to consider why that is? For even a second?” 

Bianca gritted her teeth. “Because they’re all jerks.” 

“No, girl! You’re missing the point!” Cesar protested. He paused to collect his thoughts, massaging his temples with irritation. “Did you know how excited I was, to come out and meet you for the first time? I volunteered to be here. Chester rejected me because of my subpar taste, but I hitched a ride on Leon’s ankle and made it here anyways. I put in a lot of effort, you know.” 

“Yeah, so?” 

“So? I wanted to believe you, the beautiful and regal giantess, were everything that I imagined in my wildest fantasies. And at first, you were. Smoking hot, horny, and huge. You drove me wild.” 

Bianca smirked. “Yeah. I remember.” She tickled him teasingly with her fingers. Cesar pushed her hand away. 

“But then... I saw how you treated Graham and Gio.” Her smile faded. “I saw your indifference to their suffering, your selfishness, your petulant whining when you didn’t get your way. I saw how your father coddled you and poisoned you to be a horrible person. It was... disappointing, to say the least. You’re not the woman I hoped you would be.” 

If Bianca had heard him so brashly proclaim those blunt judgements a few days ago, she would’ve hurled him across the room at the wall for his audacity. Now, however, she could only avert her gaze with shame. He was right, of course, and she knew it. Everyone knew it. She couldn’t deny that everything he said was true, as much as it hurt to acknowledge it. 

“Why are you saying all this to me?” she snapped defensively. “Just to hurt me more?” She tensed up with rising anger, but then slumped down on the bed instead, scooping Cesar off her lap and drawing him closer to her chest. She didn’t have the energy to retaliate. 

“No, of course not,” Cesar responded. He set his small hand on one of her fingers curling around him. “I want you to understand, you’re not powerless to change. You CAN become a better person. I want you to be better. I believe in you!” 

Bianca sighed. “I... I don’t know,” she admitted. 

Cesar showed off his pearly whites in a dazzling smile. “It’s not so hard, girl! Start with little things. Be more considerate of the thoughts and feelings of others. Be nice! You’d be surprised. It’s easier than you think. You can’t change the past, and undo what you’ve done, but you can make different choices moving forward.” 

“I guess,” the princess mumbled. 

“Just try, okay? It’s preferable to locking yourself away in your room all day and wallowing in self-pity, isn’t it?” 

“Yeah. I guess so.” She shrugged. 

“I‘ll help you,” Cesar assured her, still smiling. “We’ll get through this together!” 

“Well... okay.” Bianca softened, touched by his empathy. She hadn’t given him any good reason to show kindness towards her, yet he was putting forth the effort to reassure her, even if he didn’t actually like her that much. She appreciated the gesture, especially when everyone else had shunned her. “I’ll try.”  

She wrapped her hands around him tighter and held him to her buxom chest in a hug. She was amused when she saw him blush, despite the fact that he’d literally been inside her in the heat of passion not long ago. She supposed this was quite a different type of intimacy, more tender and sweet. She liked how he made her feel. She felt in control, and not quite so powerless, when she had a tiny man to hold. He was the only one on her side right now. 

The giantess rotated so she was lying on her back, with Cesar perched on her breasts, sheltered by her hand. “It wasn’t always like this, you know,” she reminisced with misty eyes. “I wasn’t always like this.” 

“Oh?” Cesar listened, curious. 

“I had a dashing man who loved me, once,” she continued. “He was one of the servants, not of noble birth, but goodness was he handsome! And funny, and charming, and charismatic, with a blinding smile and the most enchanting blue eyes I’ve ever seen! I have a weakness for those...” She grimaced, briefly, as she was reminded of Ray. 

“But anyways, we engaged in a steamy love affair. I lost my virginity to him. He was my first true love. I adored him, and he cherished me, of course. We were star-crossed lovers. However...” She winced with pain at the distasteful memory. “Daddy found out. He was furious. He disposed of him by publicly beheading him, and forced me to watch him die. He threatened the other male servants with the same fate if they so much as looked at me funny. After that... none of the men wanted to be anywhere near me. I was devastated and bitter, and I felt very alone and unwanted, long after he was gone.” 

“How tragic,” Cesar commented. He rubbed her thumb gently to console her, while ensconced in the curve of her hand. 

“I must confess, I didn’t respond to the whole incident in the... healthiest of ways,” she admitted. “I have my pride, you know? My royal bearing. I didn’t want anyone to think I was going soft, or that I had serious feelings for this man, least of all my father. I pretended like nothing bothered me. I hardened my heart, so it wouldn’t hurt anymore. I didn’t want to bond with anyone else, for fear of losing them. I think... that was a mistake.” 

“I see. Understandable, I suppose.” 

“I just want to be loved,” Bianca expressed. “Is that too much to ask?” 

Cesar winked at her and patted her finger. “Not at all. You just need to work on yourself first.” 

“Mm,” Bianca affirmed. “You’re right.” Somehow, the hollowness inside her didn’t feel quite so empty anymore. She held on to Cesar, who relaxed on the gigantic plush pillows of her boobs as they gently rose and fell with her breathing. She resolved to do better. What did she have to lose, after all? She eventually fell asleep with Cesar laying on top of her. For the first night in days, she slept well.

What do you think is that shirt from Kyo's latest column? Do you think it's future merch (should be for DEG but isn't it too early to show merch?) or could it be a fan made present? I looked at the replies on X but so far nobody has claimed it as their present, and everyone wants to buy it (me included because that design slaps).

You did everything that I would to check! To me, it seems so well made, with the writing on the long sleeve too. It would be crazy for a one-off gift from a fan and I don't think Kyo would wear himself like that. His message was cryptic though, like it doesn't close the door on a possible giveaway, but we'll have to wait and see in November! It's not far-fetched to think that the merchandise for tours could be ready, at least with a prototype this early. The bands have at least the next two years figured out.

I just can't recall official band merch featuring only one member at a time, other than that very old Kaoru one and the recent black and white series with their faces zombified, but they went through all the members anyway.
