Mihawk is such a capricious dude, oh my god. The only dude you know who is always itching for a fight but only ever a specific kind of fight so he goes out of his way to take the path of least resistance for everything else.

Like he would rather leave than fight Don krieg, Sail away than decimate the marines, live in peace instead of challenging the other emperors for the one piece. And when they do he’d rather follow buggy’s idea of just being smarter about how they go about it instead of brute forcing it like the rest. He is constantly leaving fights but then a swordsman of mild repute and an interesting technique engages him in a battle and suddenly you have his whole attention. Like with vista it was obvious that he could have just cleared him like he did everyone else but he’d never seen the flower sword techinque and by god was he going to miss this chance. And so he engages him in what is essentially a spare.

Because Mans isn’t looking for a fight, instead, like a middle aged director of a short indie film, he’s chasing a feeling.

He wants to feel like his 19 year old self did when he was strong but there were people stronger. When there were still obstacles to overcome limits to exceed. When the world was large and exciting and he wasn’t just waiting for it to catch up with him. When he could look at Shanks as the person he is instead of the person he could have been.

He wants to look at Shanks and not see visions of a grinning red haired boy with 2 arms and a strawhat laughing in the dirt and asking for “just one more round Hawky I swear I’ll beat you this time”

But there is nowhere Mihawk can run that that boy won’t haunt him.

What’s your thoughts on Nagi’s psychology and outlook in life?

The thoughts of him telling Reo “means you matter to your parents” is hitting me hard. Had me thinking of [redacted] but in a different hard-hitting context.

AHHHH HIII OKOKOK so idk this is probably an unpopular opinion because everyone likes taking nagi’s character at a very surface level but i think almost everything about nagi can be very easily explained if you think of him as someone who is very gifted but suffers from parental neglect

there’s plenty of examples of nagi showing all of the symptoms i highlighted throughout the manga, epinagi, and his light novels, so i won’t add in screenshots because i’ll hit the image limit 😭 but it seems to me that while a lot of people headcanon nagi as not caring about anyone and wanting to be alone, that one line about how reo’s parents’s suffocating parenting style means they “care” about him, however misguided it may be, proves that he does want someone to love him and look after him, considering his own parents never really did so. it’s mentioned that he and his parents had a “friend-like” relationship but you can NOT have that kind of relationship with someone you are meant to raise!! (that doesn’t mean you can’t be friendly and supportive with your kids, but you need to be responsible for them in a way that friends aren’t so that they can grow up into well adjusted adults)

incidentally this is also why i like him and barou together and why i think nagi really shines around barou — barou’s probably one of if not THE first person to not only pay consistent attention to nagi but to do so in a way that sets and maintains boundaries (as in, not letting nagi get away with anything the way other characters do). it’s annoying to nagi in the way that getting yelled at by your parents for misbehaving is annoying to you in the moment, but at the end of the day it’s good for him and what he has been missing for much of his life

You know what would be really funny? If Knives succeeded in making Vash forget everything so that he could be turned against humanity except. he still doesn't turn against humanity.

No idea who he is, what's going on, where they are, what a gun even is, but he's still hopelessly dedicated to Not Hurting People for some reason because it's part of who he is, deeper than any memory Knives can take and. Literally nothing about his core personality or beliefs change. He manages to escape, and the twins go back to the same game of cat and mouse they've been playing for 150 years. But Vash just doesn't remember Knives anymore. Wouldn't Knives. feel a bit silly. a bit. foolish. :)

marius does seem to have a lot of complicated feelings about what he did to armand and I really hope one of them is guilt for his thinking in buying armand originally. he talks in blood and gold about how when he heard armand's mind, the entire reason he wanted him was because he thought, here is a child who has been so hurt that it will be no loss to the world if I make him a vampire. and he wavers on this later and I hope it's because he saw this child make friends and learn things and love rings and watches and swordfighting and realize that actually there is never a child so damaged that taking them from humanity is no loss. I wonder if part of the reason he never tried to talk to armand after seeing him with the children of darkness is that he saw that boy changed into a lonely stoic cult leader with no more will or verve and was too consumed with guilt to even try. I hope that guilt started when he took armand to kiev rus and saw how much armand still loved the family he hadn't seen in years and for a while barely remembered from trauma. also I hope marius explodes into one thousand pieces but that's mostly irrelevant

dust would carry around a portable charger at all times to ensure his phone was at 100%. not because he likes it but i feel he'd have one of those phones that instantly drop to 4% if not constantly plugged in

horror doesn't keep track of his phone battery at all he just makes sure it's not below 10% (because it just feels right.) horror would have a streak for how long he's gotten close to his phone dying and then get pissed off when he loses the streak (real)

killer's one of those people to immediately plug his phone in when it reaches 20% because he really doesn't want his phone to die (a modern au killer would be ADDICTED to his phone TRUST i was the 20% notification)

reading the novel, i love how blatantly indulgent of the juniors lan wangji is. when he was their age, he was duelling wei wuxian over broken rules and lived his life by behaving as precisely as what was expected of him, and now as an adult, he's basically letting the juniors do whatever they want as long as it isn't unsafe and generally letting the kids act like kids

which leaves wei wuxian to have to be the one playing bad cop. wei "has never followed anyone else's rules in his life" "bane of lan qiren's existence" "public enemy number one" wuxian has to be the one being like "oh my god don't burn money on someone else's doorstep, don't you know that's rude. you kids need to focus on your studies more, why isn't anyone teaching you anything useful, do i have to do everything myself around here"

revisiting riverdale season 3 episode 4 "the midnight club" post-season 7 is insane because so many of the story elements that are constants in the different incarnations of the main cast (riverdale/50sdale) are also true for the parent characters. and they're portrayed by the same actors. do you understand? fred & hermione dated because archie & veronica did and alice & fp dated because betty & jughead did. in a sense they're just yet another alternate main cast, so even when portraying the parents these characters are still stuck in their own respective narratives because that's what riverdale is about
