#examples: Sinbad from Magi

I know these aren’t characters I write for, much less think about often… but I had a funny little dream where Rindou was supposed to pick me up from a party, but forgot, so I called Ran instead. We grab a midnight meal, and he takes me home (no funny business). We guilt trip Rindou the next day and he’s so mad….

I have half a mind to write a little headcanon/prompt in this idea but i don’t know haha…

Types of book titles:

Bought to you by: me trying to figure out a title for my wips and analysing a few existing ones to give me ideas

1. The character name

Easy and efficient. Percy Jackson. Dracula. Septimus Heap. Coraline. Naruto. You get it. Titles like "Name + and + something"/"Name + name" also apply, like Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard or Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

2. Important element to the story

Pretty practical too, gives an idea of what you are talking about. The Locked Tomb (i think? I haven't read it). Star Wars. Etc.

3. Cool title for your character

This one is rlly cool I think. Similar to #1 but here we are giving our main character a sick title that may or may not be included in the story itself. The Death's Heir. The Lord of the Rings (i think. I haven't read lord of the rings). The Red Queen. And so on. Also alludes to your premise and is pretty catchy.

4. Euphemism or metaphor

Similar to #2 but if telling what your story is all about doesn't sound very good directly so we make an euphemism. Let's say your premise is "we killing the evil queen". That doesn't sound very good as a title perhaps so let's euphemism it. "Fall of the Crown" sounds better, BUT if we want we can push it a little more. "The Last Jewel" may be a bit exagerated but if you can title drop that somewhere in your story its good. Making your euphemism reference something that is already in the book also works better for your euphemism.

Examples are like, Red White and Royal Blue (euphemism for the US and the UK and a prince—by referencing the royal and the flag colors—which about sums it up) and Court of Thorns and Roses (metaphor for the whole fae thing and all the conflicts + references the whole nature and spring thing which are reocurring elements)

5. Literally the plot

Around the world in 80 days. Journey to the center of earth. You know the kind. Flourish a bit if you need to, these also work pretty well if you can pull them off.

6. "The song/chronicles/requiem/adventures/tale of (whatever)"

These are generally reserved for fantasy, I think? Either way they are pretty cool. The Song of Achilles. The Kane Chronicles. The Chronicles of Narnia. A Song of Ice and Fire. They aren't very illustrative but they just sound cool.

Examples from here on Tumblr stories:

#1: Kai and Kyriel (the protagonist and the antagonist) or Alex & Friends (you get it)

#2: Starcross (the spaceship the main characters are the crew of) or The Safehouse (the shelter the story takes place in!)

#3: The Ghost of Seattle (the guy is called "the ghost" coz he is sneaky and misterious and the story is in seattle so)

#4: (ok idk any)

#5: Aros Against Fate (the main characters are aromantic and the themes of the story revolve around carving your own path despiste what has been decided for you, be it by the gods or by your parents)

#6: The Paladin Series (the main villain is called Paladin and yea you get it)

Examples from anime too since we're at it:

#1: Naruto (you know him)

#2: Magi (a very rare type of magician with a bit of mistery ab their origin that surrounds the shows)

#3: Tokyo Revengers

#4: Pandora Hearts (i guess?)

#5: I reincarnated as a slime/with a smartphone/as the seventh prince (all those isekai tbh)

#6: The Adventures of Sinbad

#???: DanDaDan

(anime in general goes by a few different rules actually nevermind)

Some time ago, I was scrolling through your One Piece tag, and I saw an anon ask what would happen to Doflamingo's kid after he got imprisoned. You answered that the kid would most likely be arrested, and it got me wondering: would they (Doffy Jr.) be put in jail (imagine being ten or something and getting a life sentence, haha) or would the World Government try to brainwash them to be their loyal government dog? You also mentioned that there would be a possibility if they were young enough that Viola or some other person would adopt them, but who would want to take care of Doffy's kid? Wouldn't the public be wary of them and the possibility that they'd grow up to be like their father?

Do you have any Shōnen anime series that you can recommend?

I’ll post the head canons in a bit! As I’ve been making this post I’m realizing that I do not fully understand the genre of Shōnen. There are a lot of shows I like that are classified as such that I wouldn’t have assumed go on my list. So here we go!!

Sports Anime

-Most of these have the same plots. I don't think it's bad, but that also means I enjoy most of them. I'll list I few that I enjoy but these are not all of these.

-Sk8 Infinity, Haikyuu!!, Yuri!! On Ice, Free!, Keijo (nsfw), Run With The Wind, Chihayafuru

The Classics

These are shows that I would consider staples of the anime community. A lot of these are from the 1990-2000's. I'm sure some of these haven't aged well but they are nostalgic. This age of Shōnen also has a habit of being what I originally thought of Shōnen being. Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Naruto are good examples but I personally prefer One Piece out of those three.

-Soul Eater, Black Butler, Gintama, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Death Note, InuYasha, Sinbad, Magi (Sindbad is a prequel to the Magi series), Cells at Work

The Modern Age

These are shows that have come out within the last five years or so. My younger audience/audience newer to anime may recognize these titles.

-Vinland Saga (extreme violence), The Promised Neverland (I can only recommend the first season. Season two sucks), Kakegurui (nsfw), Tokyo Revengers, The Ancient Magus Bride, Fire Force, Record of Ragnarok

Honorable Mentions

These shows are either highly popular or interesting that I don't enjoy as much. These shows aren't bad, they just don't mesh with me very well. Dr. Stone, for example, is highly scientific and it makes me feel unintelligent. I also find Jojo's art style nauseating. I have extreme motion sickness and the animation just makes my stomach hurt.

Ok, but one thing I keep forgetting to comment on. It makes sense for Alibaba to come up with this sort of idea. Alibaba was ALWAYS an out-of-the-box thinker! That's what these tunnels were about. Instead of running the mountain like everybody else, he took a different approach - and succeeded!

I think it's one of the things that differ him from somebody like Sinbad, for example. Sinbad may be unorthodox in his approach, but it's not exactly the same. It's difficult for me to put in into words, but what happens here is a good example. The only way he thought Balbadd could've been helped was to make Alibaba a King, and support him as the Seven Seas Alliance. He doesn't consider any other possible ways of dealing with this crisis - it's that or a failure, the end. He sees the world in 0s and 1s, from the place of believing himself to always be the one who knows best, while Alibaba considers all the other perspectives as equally valuable, and finds a solution thanks to them all.

Not me coming in hot with a bunch of AU ideas for a fandom that seems mostly DEAD ahaha... why must you do this to me, brain

-AU where there are side effects to being bonded to a djinn, depending on the djinn’s powers and/or physical appearance. For example, the tips of Alibaba’s hair lighting on fire when he gets upset, Kougyoku leaving foot-shaped puddles behind as she walks, Kouen’s eyes glowing electric blue when mad, Sinbad accidentally shocking everyone he shakes hands with with static electricity, Sinbad’s hair fluffing like feathers when he’s surprised by something, Hakuryuu accidentally making flowers bloom out of season, Hakuei never being able to fall at normal speed no matter what she tries....

-AU where there are no dungeons, the djinn just covertly wander around in human form and when they see someone they want to have as a king’s candidate, they kidnap them for several years of training. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings, with djinn being thought of as child-snatchers and creators of changelings, once the fully trained king’s candidates return and start changing the world. Alibaba definitely freaks out when he gets yoinked by Amon. Rashid is Not Happy that his third son has disappeared again. Meanwhile, extra djinn just keep piling on Sinbad after he’s snatched by Baal and it’s been over a decade since he’s been allowed to leave the training grounds for any considerably length of time and he is Not Impressed. Not even by the clairvoyance magic Yunan has set up for him. On the flip side, since king’s candidates all get taken to the same place (which no outsiders can locate no matter how hard they try, not even Al Thamen), there’s a lot more camaraderie between them.

-any AU where some twist of fate allows for much heavier parental!Sinbad/Alibaba, or they get to meet much earlier, much more like partners or family than just allies until Sinbad fucks up. (Seriously I am such a sucker for this dynamic, I wish there were more fics with parental!SinAli or mentor!SinAli...)

-AU where Sinbad has fathered several children all across the world and his generals are tearing their hair out going crazy trying to collect all of them and their mothers. How has a man with the reputation of “womanizer of the seven seas” not fathered a few children by the time canon starts...

-AU where the ruhk in resting state aren’t just gold or black, they’re all colors of the rainbow. Solomon went ham on fucking up the ruhk and Il Ilah and now there are hundreds of different “destinies” or “wills” for people to follow, all part of the same great flow. Al Thamen has a lot of trouble making headway because it’s not just one type of ruhk they’re fighting against, it’s a bunch.

-AU where everything is the same, except the djinn are treated like people instead of overpowered magical weapons. Secondary to this, where djinn can overtly communicate with their king’s candidates, even when their metal vessel is not on the king’s body. Definitely makes hiding or locking away a metal vessel a whole lot harder...

-AU where someone whacks Arba and David on the head repeatedly. Maybe Sinbad too for good measure. That’s it, that’s the AU.

-AU where there are no magis and the world is even more chaotic without them choosing king’s candidates. The dungeons just pop up randomly. Somehow, however, Sinbad still manages to start off with Baal.

-AU where all 72 members of Solomon’s Household are out in the world, bonded to king’s candidates. World-changing events happen almost every day because of this. Judar is having the time of his life.

-AU where instead of metal vessels, the djinn are bound to colored tattoos that are branded on the skin of the king’s candidates. These tattoos are fairly large and complex, or, possibly, the sigils from The Lesser Key of Solomon (which is where all the names of the djinn come from). People (*cough* Sinbad) are limited to seven djinn because there’s only enough room on a person’s skin for seven sigils. The sigils can shift location when another djinn becomes bonded, but otherwise stay in one place. The sigils glow whenever the djinn’s power is activated, in a color(s) that are related to the djinn. The glow is often a similar color to the tattoo.

-AU where the Fanalis can shapeshift into feline forms at will. Most of them are big cats, or larger lesser cats, but you can find the occasional Fanalis housecat, too. (Failure to recognize that the housecat-shifting Fanalis can kick your ass just as easily as, say, the tiger-shifting Fanalis has been the unlamented death of many a slave trader.)

-AU where bonding with a djinn automatically makes you a cryptid. Glowing eyes, reflective eyes, vaguely creepy habits (“Get off the ceiling, Kouha, how did you get up there”), gravity no longer seems to apply quite right, you enjoy spending long stints alone in the wilderness sometimes creeping on travelers...

-AU where everyone has different djinn. Alibaba gets a water djinn for Reasons (and Aladdin becomes a water magician to match).

The scribes that produce Sinbad's books spent most of their time working with the members of the Black, and White Towers to copy documents and research notes for record holding, The also create teaching material for the Black Libra Tower, and books to sell to other nations in the Alliance. Because of this, they were situated in a building next to the Black Libra Tower. It was an unmarked building in any of the supplementary material I had found for Magi. Most of the rooms in it were full of writing desks, and shelves to dry the new work on. There was a room for creating and storing ink that I would have liked to investigate if I had time. There was another room for storage of all the needed supplies.

As soon as we entered King Sinbad called a meeting where he put the production of his book on hold. He made a point to apologize to those who had been working on it, and offered a boon for the extra work they would need to do once he fixed the manuscript. At least one of these diligent scribes excused himself for an early lunch, and another requested the rest of the day off. Honestly, I would have wanted to do the same if I found out I had basically wasted half a week of work. I was surprised that it was allowed without question.

Watching King Sinbad be a better boss to his people than most of the authority figures I'd experienced through my life felt strange. I reminded myself that although Sinbad was a capitalist, he wasn't ruthless. All throughout the franchise we see constant examples of the people living and working under him being happy to do so. They respect Sinbad, and feel that their own work has value. He isn't tyrannical by nature, nor does he want to be. Even in the final arc, he immediately stopped his plans once he was able to see how war like they were. Sinbad was definitely devious, and manipulative, but he hadn't become conniving or cruel yet. There was still time for him to walk down a different path and realize a different Fate. I was relieved by this just as much as it caused a disconnect in me. I was going to need time to process this, so I put the feeling in a drawer in my heart to examine later.

When the scribes went on break, Sinbad started going over the next issue of the story with me. It was the most cheesy, over the top, self indulgent, hype story I'd ever read -and I've consumed more than my fair share of action shonen series. It would be right at home in a Saturday morning block. I wanted to read it from the beginning, so I'd definitely have to get my hands on the past installments later.

An upside to ink and parchment compared to is that you can remove and fix a mistake without damaging the parchment with an ink knife-if you're skilled enough. All the same, I was definitely going to reinvent the printing press next. I had worked with an old fashion printing press in school, so I understood the basic design and process. And I knew I wouldn't have the same problem that Europeans did when they tried to bring the printing press to Arabian countries. Industrial printing was originally refused by Arabs in the 1500's because the people that were known for using it were seen as magicians and swindlers (for good reason). I don't think I will have as hard a time getting it accepted compared to reality because I was a Prophet respected by these people -and this was fanfiction.

Most of the changes to the next issue were just my pronouns, but there were a few spots that would need a full rewriting. Since Sinbad had never written about someone like me he had me read over his changes for approval. As long as the changes wouldn't leave major gaps in the text, then the scrolls that were already made wouldn't have to be scrapped.

I sat in a wooden chair and leaned onto the desk Sinbad was using as I watched him rewrite another section. Being on the receiving end of his professionalism brought that feeling from before peeking out of the drawer. "When I read Fate, it seemed like most nations don't recognize people outside of the binary." What did this Sinbad think? HIs character is chauvinistic at his worst when it comes to gender, and well meaning but rude at his best. Could he really understand people outside of the binary? And even if he could, why would he care enough to write about one of them accurately? He gave all of the Eight Generals traits that made them virtually unrecognizable. Sure his books gave an eye into other countries and inspired his readers, but their biggest influence was making King Sinbad look better.

The King's smile widened slightly and his eyes seem to acknowledge my concern. "My books are more than exciting adventures. For many, they are the first time they will ever learned about life outside of their own countries. I want to make sure those first impressions are positive for everyone." It was like he read my thoughts. "My Generals have become representatives of their home countries not just here in Sindria, but world wide through my books, and now you too will be the introduction to sides of humanity most wouldn't even think to question." Sinbad looked up at me from the scroll. "There's no need to look so shocked."

I wasn't aware of my expression. "I'm just surprised you are using your books like this intentionally."

He chuckled. "Even with reading my Fate?"

"My visions didn't show much about them after King Rashid suggested you make them. I did get to see their positive reception with the next generation though -like how they have the confidence to change the world too after reading someone else do it."

"I see."

Sinbad only started writing these books because of King Rashid's encouragement. It was clear from the extras that he came to enjoy writing them very much. I knew he was smart, and understood the marketing and propaganda aspects of his books, but somehow it didn't occur to me that he would intentionally use them like this. Hearing him say it reminded me of how he talked all throughout his life. "It's a lot easier to convince a people to go to war if they can demonize their enemy. Your stories humanize the people of every country that appears in them." Sinbad is anti-war; it's the entire reason he became a King's candidate, and why he stopped with the 2nd Calamity once he actually listened to outside perspectivs. "That's the part I wasn't sure was on purpose since I know it didn't start that way." Considering I had hyperfixated on his character for half a decade I was a bit embarrassed that I hadn't realized it.

The drawer holding those feelings opened a little more and I was able to recognize some of them. I was frustrated that Sinbad was easily able and willing to care about the people under him, including minorities, unlike the leaders of the country I grew up in. I was frustrated that Sinbad was the one to do it when he had such obvious greed, and hurts so many people because of it. I was frustrated with myself for wanting to deny the very kindness and thoughtfulness that made me like him in the first place -for wanting to demonize him, and boil him down to only the mistakes that even he regretted. And I was mourning my situation back home that made me not want to accept that better treatment was possible all along.

Sinbad watched me back with a softening expression. It reminded me of the times when he would say- "You're amazing." He said it like I expected then seemed to scoff at himself. "Most only comment on how much good publicity I'm writing for myself."

I joked along with him, "It does do that exceptionally well." My heart swelled so much it hurt. Sinbad is exceptionally good at making people feel valued even when he doesn't actually consider them special. And even though I hadn't felt safe getting into another relationship for a few years, his treatment made me feel like it might be okay again someday. That was more than enough for me. But it did remind me of something that I shouldn't wait to address any longer. "I'm going to miss playing that flirting game with you."

He eyes went wide just as his voice raised in octave with his hum of confusion.

Something like shock or confusion flashed across Sinbad's face, "Ah," before it was covered with a comforting smile. "I see what you're worried about." He put his pen down. "It's only been one day since you found out that people like you exist in this world, let alone in Sindria. It seems you haven't read about my experience with them." ((It's been a few months for writer me, obviously.))

I explained, "Since you know I'm not a woman now." The Magi Character Encyclopedia says explicitly that Sinbad's type is all women. If he was still flirting with me while knowing I'm not a woman it would eventually feel extremely dysphoric for me.

((Reminder: This is a fanfiction I am writing for me, and people like me which includes nonbinary and trans identities. I have been hurt by partners that refused to accept my gender, so this conversation in the fic is very important to me. Mori will not be able to continue to see Sinbad as a potential romantic partner if he cannot accept their gender. If you don't like the idea of Sinbad being extremely attracted to feminine non-binary people, nor trans women, you don't have to read it. Don't comment about it "not being historically accurate" when Magi isn't historically accurate, and this is a fanfiction. "Yes. That's right."

"Now I know for sure that your visions didn't include my bedroom habits."

"!!" I felt my face ignite, and rested it in my hand. I mumbled a response through my fingers, "No, they didn't." Magi isn't 18+; I had to go to fanfiction for that.

Sinbad's laugh sounded genuine. "I admit that it took me a while to understand people like you -though most of my experience is thanks to the red light district." That didn't surprise me. "Eventually, I realized that I didn't want to deny myself the pleasure of such beautiful company just because they don't match my expectations." He put a hand close to my arm but didn't touch me. "I spent a while talking to them and experienced many things I wouldn't have otherwise." At least he wasn't going into detail about his sexscapades. "Thanks to them, I know that as long as a person doesn't make me think I'm with another man then that's enough for me... regardless of the type of body they have." ((This Sinbad says trans rights.))

My face was still too warm and I broke eye contact again. "I see." My embarrassment was one part realizing I was worrying over nothing, and one part curiosity at what he had experienced.

Something warm tapped my arm; I knew it was Sinbad without looking. His voice purred. "Does that mean I quelled your fears?"

Was this something the me writing this changed so I could feel comfortable flirting with the Womanizer of the Seven Seas, or was it like how straight, gay and lesbian are supposed to include attraction to nonbinary because for allos it's about the physical or something? I don't fully understand it. I do lean into my feminine side, and enjoy passing as a woman, so I don't fault anyone who is attracted to women being attracted to me -it tells me I'm pulling off my costume well. But it's different when they know I'm not a woman and pursue me anyway, as if they're expecting me to become one. I've been openly denied my gender more than once by such people. That's not what Sinbad said though. He found a way to explain his attraction without claiming he only likes women; it's that he's attracted to feminine traits. All of the male leads in Magi that visit the red light districts are shown being unattracted to hyper masculine women. It's played as a joke, but it fits in line with this, and I can see the me writing this stretching that joke like they did with the pink Rukh. I guess I'm suppose to accept that his strict use of words for women was merely because that's the most common type of person that looks this way. ((Not to mention publishing and censoring restrictions.)) Perhaps, I was too worried about something that could be explained away with head canon, fanfiction, and wish fulfillment.

"For now," was the answer I gave. If he invalided me later that would be gameover.

"That's good." I heard the devilish grin in Sinbad's voice before I looked up to see it. And when he spoke again he definitely had his charms cranked up to 11. "Although, I'd still like to do more than play this flirting game of yours if you'd let me." He was earnest, and yet it didn't feel like he was asking with that statement.

I answered -just in case- while giving the hand he put near me a flick. "You'd have to give me your heart before I'd even consider it." And we both knew that would never happen.

The King pulled his hand back with a fake sigh. "Then it looks I'll have to be satisfied with those adorable expressions you always show me."

I looked away from him again, stuck in my unrequited infatuation. The metal tip of his quill made small sounds as Sinbad got back to rewriting the scroll.

In order to fall in love or have physical cravings for another person I have to know them well. I know I'm ace, and have been questioning if I'm on the aro spectrum for years. If I hadn't read the original, if I didn't know Sinbad's Fate I wouldn't be struggling like this.

"Now, I hope my Beautiful Prophet didn't forget the promise they made yesterday." The King commented from behind me.

No, it's more than that. Because of those six months when I was 12, I've struggled with trusting my body with anyone until well into a romantic relationship. I have to know that they actually respect my boundaries and care about me.

I stepped outside while King Sinbad turned in the revised manuscript and said his goodbyes. The mid-day sun was hot and made my skin start to prickle. If I stayed in the sun my cholinergic urticaria was going cause worse than just rashes. I headed under the overhang of the path connecting nearby buildings. I'd only been able to avoid this problem so far by staying in doors in the middle of the day. I only realized after recovering that it was my fever that made the heat in Sindria not overwhelm me when I first arrived.

That nickname was gender neutral! How serendipitous. ((all according to kakeikou)) I looked back at him to see his arms crossed. "I didn't forget." Okay, I kinda forgot; I didn't know when he would make due on that promise.

Sinbad stepped into the shade where I was. "I've decided to let you pick out some items from the Treasury for the thank you I promised. And since I commissioned pieces -under a misconception- I want to make sure you have options that you chose for yourself."

'I'm gonna to see the Treasury in person!' "Thank you." No take backs!

The King smirked. "I know that expression. You had the same one when we boarded the ship back in Balbadd. I was surprised you didn't start examining my office the same way."

Being called out sobered me up a bit. "I have enough self control to not do something like that during an important discussion." I couldn't tell if he was actually just flirting with that tone.

He laughed. "Is that so?" Oh, okay, he was definitely teasing me.

I closed the gap between us as I played along. "It is."

King Sinbad narrowed his eyes but his smile didn't change. "Alright then. I believe you." He gestured with his closer hand towards the courtyard, and starting walking that way for me to follow him.

((Firstly: I am okay. What happened when I was 12 was more than half my life ago at this point. I've done a lot of therapy, so I can be sexual with a partner without having problems. It just takes me a while to get there. I still have one trigger to work through and I have a plan for slow exposure therapy to get past it :3 (It requires a partner that is willing and able to do that and I've been basically single since 2016, so I don't have a way or reason to do it.) I do still have PTSD dreams about it sometimes which really sucks, but it isn't something causing problems in my day to day life. As I explained on Tumblr a few times, I have multiple types of PTSD, and started writing this fanfiction to help me work through some of blocks I've encountered in my recovery.

One of the reasons posting takes so long is because many of the early drafts of chapters are basically grief letters. I then back track and rewrite with a better understanding of my own personal biases and fears, so I don't project as much on the canon character. It also helps me get an idea of how I look from an outside perspective. The waves ain each draft are influenced by the previous drafts as well as the character motivations, and that helps me change things too.

Secondly, and on a happier note: About a year a ago I started seriously researching the fashion and proper names for things shown in Magi intentionally (I have researched things by accident), so I can write and draw about them better. It's been eye opening now that I know what a lot of the anime and manga designs have been simplifying -the way I draw certain clothing items has been changing as I know better.

I'm at the point where I think I know enough to start using the names too, but I could still get things wrong since I'm still learning the nuance -I'll be taking it slow. I'm also bad at spelling so get confused easily whenever I learn new words. (I know this sounds shocking from how I write now, but reading didn't really click until I was around 8. I struggle with learning written language in general.) There's also the issue of words from different letter/character systems not having exact equals, so I have been finding different spellings in romaji for some of the same words. Please let me know if I end up using the wrong name or spelling for something. I will start using the names in future chapters. I already have up to chapter 32 drafted and I don't remember exactly when I start using the new words, but I wanted to give a heads up.

I wish I had learned about some of these when I was little. I'm on the autistic spectrum so I'm not comfortable with a lot of types of clothes. When I was little I would often wrap and tie sheets around myself at home instead of wearing normal clothes. I'm finding out that some of the ways I tied them (or tried to but didn't have the right cut of fabric or skill) have official names and standard/suggested fabric lengths and materials that are better, and/or cuts of clothes that are close to what I have tried to do. Child me wouldn't have had to reinvent the wheel if they knew about these things, and they wouldn't have felt shame for not wearing "real" clothes (even if they still wouldn't have worn them out of the house).))

☰ Overview

〔Disclaimer〕 Yandere behavior and mindsets are not healthy, nor should they be sought after: this is just meant to be a fun way to analyze characters and see/understand how they may fit into this specific genre of fictional horror. 

This personality ‘assessment’ was inspired by @ddarker-dreams​‘s ‘Yandere MBTI’ as I adore their writing and have always thought that their MBTI assessment is really cool! I also noticed how other people enjoy it so I thought I would make my own assessment, though mine is inspired by the ‘Big Five Personality Traits’. I even tried to be creative and add in the little circles that you can find on the actual Big Five assessment too (which is 100% free btw!). I don’t really think I did the Big Five assessment justice, and I think that a lot more goes into the complexities around this kinda thing, but hopefully this is somewhat interesting!

〔Open〕 yanderes are blatant about their obsession. They do not try and hide it either because they believe it’s meant to be, because they’re too deep in their delusions to understand that it might be a good idea to keep their mouth shut, or simply because they’re in a position to not care about hiding their interest. Usually, this type of yandere is either seen as somewhat of a ‘lovesick puppy’ or a powerful character; though, being a ‘lovesick puppy’ doesn’t necessarily mean kind or affectionate. Whether it was ‘love at first sight’ or more of a slow-burn, these characters usually roll with their feelings with little to no hesitation. Situations with this type of yandere usually include darlings who are unaware of the yandere’s emotions (or even their existence) until they’re suddenly confronted, kidnapped, or confessed to seemingly out of the blue.

〔Closed〕 yanderes try to hide their obsessive mindset or behaviors. While they might not always be successful at hiding their interest, closed yandere types are either ashamed/embarrassed by their feelings or are frustrated by them in some way. Usually this type of yandere will ignore/avoid their darling in hopes of losing their feelings, or pretend their feelings don’t exist. This type of yandere is either upset at themselves for having these feelings or upset at their darling for ‘making’ them feel that way. Darling can possibly see their behavior coming and try to avoid the character, but this type of yandere is likely to ‘snap’ at some point and somehow corner their darling as an attempt at controlling their obsession or feelings (though, sometimes this is just the yandere trying to excuse their behavior).

〔 ⅲ. 〕 How comfortable is this yandere with their feelings and/or actions in regards to their darling?

☰  CASUAL  •  •  •  •  •  DIRECT

〔Casual〕 yanderes do not actively pursue their darling. This type of character is typically laid-back. They either believe that darling will inevitably fall ‘into line’ or is mellow enough to be content with simply being in darling’s life. Casual yanderes are either delusional or are not possessive enough to want more than close friendship from their darling. Though it usually takes a specific type of character for this, some yanderes here believe that they’re already in a relationship with their darling and therefore feel no need to chase after them. This kind of character can confuse their darling, and make it more difficult to get away, as their behavior can be waived off if the character is perceived as harmless, gains darling’s sympathy in some way, or otherwise is not vocal about their delusional thinking/is charming enough to convince darling to just go along with it. Some of these characters are willing to let go if darling catches on early enough, though most will just slowly follow behind regardless of what darling does (though this behavior/these reactions will definitely vary/be different depending on the character).

〔Direct〕 yanderes, as their name suggests, directly or actively pursue their darling. Usually strict or over-bearing, these characters actively chase after their darling’s affections (or otherwise whatever goal relationship the yandere wants). This yandere makes organized, sometimes step by step, plans in order to achieve their goal. It depends on the character whether they get angry when plans have to be changed or if they just shift their angle, however, these characters are focused and will not be discouraged should darling fight against their plans. If anything, some of these characters will be encouraged by their darling fighting back for various reasons (for example, if they’re delusional or just thing it’s a part of the whole ‘chase’ thing/enjoy it). These characters will almost never give up on their darling regardless of what happens.

〔 ⅰ. 〕 How goal-oriented is this character, especially when it comes to their darling? 

〔 ⅱ. 〕 How lenient is this character? Are they trying to force a bee-line to a relationship with their darling or are they willing to play the long game?

〔 ⅲ. 〕 Is this character organizing a plan in order to achieve their goal(s)? Or are they completely winging it? If they’re winging it, are they just hoping that everything will naturally fall into place, or do they genuinely believe it’s fated to happen?

☰  DISCREET  •  •  •  •  •  INTENSE

〔Discreet〕 yanderes either do not have overly strong yandere behaviors or are able to hide said traits enough to be seen as ‘normal’. These characters will usually hide their behavior, regardless of the reasons, in order to have a normal relationship with their darling. While similar to closed character types, discreet yanderes differ in the sense that they usually do not struggle to hide their behavior, and will slowly (or suddenly, depending on the situation, one situation being kidnapping) merge this persona with their actual personality so that darling has no reason to want to leave. While not all characters within this category are fully aware of their behavior, most are intentionally manipulative and have some kind of end goal. They’re not ashamed of this mindset as they believe their reasons (such as “protecting” darling from something) excuse any tears that their darling might shed directly because of this yandere’s actions later on in the ‘relationship’. The period between “normal” and whatever end goal will vary based on the character. This type’s darling can have friends, and even other relationships to an extent (though this does vary), they’ll usually end up reaching the yandere’s goal without knowing about their behavior up until it’s too late to do anything about it.

〔Intense〕 yanderes can be defined by their possessiveness, or otherwise intense behavior/mindset/emotions. This type of yandere will usually want to either isolate or monopolize their darling’s time in it’s entirety. While the character might not isolate themselves, they’ll do what they can in order to ensure that their darling is focused solely on them (or whatever goal yandere has in mind). Intense yanderes tend to come off as over-bearing or as harassers/bullies. Depending on their other traits, they will either direct their focus on getting other people away from darling or direct their focus on somehow getting darling away from other people (usually involving kidnapping or isolating them in their home). These characters have a tendency to be either cruel or manipulative and darling might believe that their yandere hates them in some way, even if the character says otherwise.

〔 ⅲ. 〕 Does this yandere need (or want?) to spend every waking (and sleeping) moment with darling? If so, what is time spent with this yandere like? 

☰  AGREEABLE  •  •  •  •  •  CONTROLLING

〔Agreeable〕 yanderes seem to genuinely care about their darling and see their darling as a breathing person with their own thoughts/feelings. These characters put their darling before themselves, sometimes going as far as seeing them as someone to worship or put on a pedestal, and believe that darling is better than them in some way. In some cases, they see darling as being unable to do anything wrong (to an extent). They’re willing to debate rights or loosen rules/chains (if they even decided to do chain darling in the first place) with darling and are willing to listen to what they have to say. This yandere’s end goal usually involves some kind of genuine relationship, regardless of how delusional that might be.

〔Controlling〕 yanderes do not view their darling as equal, either seeing them as childish (in the sense that they don’t understand things or can’t), seeing them as some kind of pet/trophy, or somewhere in-between. They usually do not care about their darling’s thoughts, feelings, or general well-being. Usually the only thing this yandere cares about is controlling their darling, the connection they have to their darling is the only important thing when it comes to darling as a person. Some of these characters even go as far as not minding if darling dies as long as they still view darling as being theirs (example being, if prince charming kept his princess asleep in order to keep princess to himself). While end goals will vary from yandere to yandere, those in this category typically don’t care how darling feels as long as they’re getting what they want from darling.

〔 ⅲ. 〕 How many rights does darling have and how quickly are said rights taken away/given back? Are they ever given back? What are the yandere’s motives in taking/giving these rights?

☰  RESILIENT  •  •  •  •  •  FRAGILE

〔Resilient〕 yanderes will almost never become discouraged. They’re confident in the sense that they know they’ll eventually achieve their goal. This type of character is willing to spend years trying to either break down their darling or otherwise induce a sort of ‘Stockholm syndrome’. Characters who heavily stalk their darling tend to fall into this category. More so, resilient yanderes are not likely to have any sort of breakdown over their darling, regardless of the situation. They’re strong in their thought process, and are not willing to change their mind-set/behavior towards their darling (or anyone else).

〔Fragile〕 yanderes, as their name suggests, are ‘fragile’ in their goals or mind-set. Usually this type of yandere is either meek or feel overly guilty about their mind-set/behaviors. These characters can be easily swayed by their darling in some way, and they can get distracted from their end-goal if darling plays their cards right. More adoring, worshipper yanderes tend to fall in this category. Characters here usually do not like upsetting their darling and (at times) are desperate for their darling’s approval. While not an inherently manipulative category, fragile yanderes will use methods like gaslighting in order to avoid any kind of confrontation.

Favorite food: that one monster’s heart (the one at the Dark continent that almost killed Judar), he prefers to eat it raw (he did spent his time with the Red lions wayyyy before the war with Anthens and Orthodox took place and discover a dish that he doesn’t know that it would be his best time favorite).

Disliked food: the ones he considers gross (like cake in spicy instant noodle for example)

Type: the type of people that could always stab him in the back, but they wouldn’t (his deceased partner)

These are the only thing i can share: Kileah and Solomon aren’t twins, Kileah is a clone of his mother (like Titus to Scheherazade) and Solomon was created with David’s rukh and his mother’s blood ; Things happened, a few hour after his mother’s death, Kileah went through time travel to 900 years ago and lost his memories, David then created Solomon ; Borg manipulation is one of Kileah’s earliest self taught skill, he taught it to Sheba, Sheba learned and develop it into a sick move all by herself, teacher Kileah is very proud ; There’s this claw move thingy that Arba uses, she learnt that (and some of the sword techniques) from Kileah just by observing him from afar, that’s how talented she is, Kileah even aknowledges it but he’s not proud, he’s very concerned.

The amount of times a Magi ship tag appeared on Pixiv on October 15, 2021.

If you never realized how much Sinja dominates this fandom, here you go. More than 1/4 of all the Magi ship art and fics on Pixiv are Sinja, and the tag itself is three times as big as the second largest tag. Just because some of the tags are big... it doesn’t tell much about their current popularity. Most of the material in these were made during Magi’s peak popularity, so when the anime was airing or right after it. The way the fandom sees characters and ships has, of course, changed since then. Therefore, it’s important to remember that the ships that are popular now are not going to follow this graph. In fact, the most active Magi ship tags currently, in late 2021, are (in no order): Sinja, Alakou, Alimor, Jafali, and Juhaku. Well, Sinja is the most active, but the rest are not in order. What is interesting about this is that Alakou, for example, did not make it on the graph (it’s in “the rest” blob), yet it’s still one of the most active Magi ship tags currently.

You can also compare this with my AO3 chart to see how the shipping preferences of the English-speaking and Japanese-speaking fans differ and match. I would say that both AO3 and Pixiv have such a bias that there are more likely to be slash shippers, so I think the sites are comparable with each other. (Although AO3 is missing some fics from the very early part of the fandom).

This scene in Magi was so funny but also a great example of friends showing vulnerability and support with each other! Hikuryuu was in a new kingdom, sent to a dungeon with three strangers, and was told he has to defeat it or Sinbad will die. Not to mention he's trying to take back is country from his psychotic mother and Alama Terran. His friends don't judge him for breaking down, they let him cry and express his stress, and then they support him and move forward together. This is why their bonds of friendship last amidst everything they face, even when they are on opposite sides ans disagree they are able to see each others viewpoint and forgive.

Magi is just too good for this world I swear.

Please keep in mind that this is a reader insert focussed writing blog. I don’t mind writing headcanons without the reader involved, headcanons are for imagining the characters in certain situations after all, but for scenario’s I’d like to keep them reader inserts. Take a moment to appreciate that this translation has that name written differently in EVERY CHAPTER. I'm not even joking. At first it was Doruji, then Dolji in the previous one, and now it's Dorzi, like, bro, make up your mind.

Honestly, I'm kind of sad how the Kouga Clan loses it's importance later on. There's so much lore on them in this arc...

I like his quest for identity, especially here. It's actually a pretty cool character arc, though I think it really peaks in the Kou Empire Arc, and then is kind of meh, like everything else in the Final Arc, save for Kougyoku and whatever the fuck she and Alibaba have going on.

But back to Aladdin, it's actually kind of interesting when you think about it, because that quest wasn't really talked about in the first arc. Then again, the entire Dungeon Arc wasn't even all that focused on Aladdin's internal conflicts or anything. We were witnessing his shenanigans from the perspective of other people, Leila's in the first chapter, then mostly Alibaba's, whose thoughts we could even pry into, while Aladdin remained this mysterious and powerful kid he'd met. But here we have it, Aladdin's perspective. Aladdin's journey and self-discovery. As much as I love Alibaba, I'm really glad he's not there, so we can get to know Aladdin outside of his relationship with his best friend. Here these characters present are side-characters, so there's nobody to really steal his spotlight.

But also I'm kind of thinking about Mogamett's backstory, which, man, I can't wait for the Magnostadt Arc. Honestly, his last words are one of my absolute favorite quotes, probably next to Kise's monologue about Aomine in KnB, and People need other people from MP100. The latter is kind of funny, it's nothing groundbreaking and special, but also I think that's why it feels so special, y'know?

Let us introduce ourselves!

Hello, nice to meet you! This is the new blog dedicated to the new Magi wiki, which I won’t link in this post because posts with links don’t show up in the tags, but our link can be found under the “The Wiki” tab of this tumblr. I’m Fluffy, an admin! 

Note: Since link posts don’t show up in the tags, I highly encourage you to follow this blog if you want to see updates from the wiki. Reblogs of linked posts are also vital and highly appreciated.

Why a new wiki?

After considerable deliberation, the other admins and I decided that the only way to get a complete wiki was to start a new one. Current policies on the other one make that impossible since a large portion of information from Sinbad no Bouken isn’t permitted under their policies. They’re still an important resource! People worked hard to create it, and they have information that we might not, especially because we’re only three weeks old and still building ourselves up. We exist as our own wiki, but we can also be used as a “second opinion” or for the information we have that the other doesn’t.

But, we offer more community-oriented policies as well. Fanon articles are allowed as long as they are clearly marked Fanon in the title. Why not check out our Ships page and list your reasons for supporting your favorite ship? Or maybe check out my theory on the page “Fanon: Currencies of the Magi World”!

Can anyone contribute?

Yes! Wikis belong to the community, and if you’re a Magi fan, you own the wiki in part. As admins, we try to be stewards. What we ask is that information be sourced or able to be sourced so that we and others can check it for accuracy. More general information, such as “Sasan is a religious country,” doesn’t necessarily need to be sourced. But, for more obscure, specific information, it’s nice to have a source so that we can double-check or go to the text to find more information. An example of something that “needs” to be sourced is that Raging Spear Squid is a popular souvenir from Sindria.

How do I source/ check a source?

For content from the manga, the most important thing that we have is the chapter number. Page numbers are awesome and we want them! Just remember, because of differences between published page numbers, individual chapter page numbers, and scanlation site page numbers, the page number listed is more of a general range. If you’re looking up a source from the site, check the pages around the listed page too. If the source doesn’t check out, let us know!

It’s also important to distinguish between The Adventures of Sinbad and the main series. You’ll find that sources from Sinbad no Bouken start with AoS and sources from Magi don’t have a designator on them.

Volume number is optional, but it definitely helps. If you have that information, go ahead and use it!

Finally, for extras, tegaki, fanbooks, etc., just do your best to identify the thing you’re referencing so that others can look it up. Here’s an example of what sources look like!

Too complicated? That’s alright. If you don’t source something we feel needs to be sourced, we’ll put “Source?” down in the references so that if someone else knows where to find it, they can update the source as needed.

Sending us asks or posting on our walls in the wiki isn’t just okay, it’s encouraged! We hope to hear from you!
