Do not question the fact it’a 4am and I’m probably never falling asleep again I had a nightmare I’m not feeling good but anyway:
I was watching a movie to fall asleep something very light (lol) on spanish dictator franco getting to power in the late 30s.
And this stuck with me, what these fascists were using as their motto during the civil war:
“Long live death”
the linguistic paradox. the theatre of the absurd. the negation of life. Long live death…
Is this how dictators and military hierarchies in nazist germany, fascist italy, francoist spain, salazarist portugal, every corporatist military usa-financed terror state in south america have convinced millions of young people to die for them? not even the ancients had the culture of death. they had the culture of dying honorably, surely, but it has nothing to do with glorifying death itself. Fascism is terrifying.

one of the biggest things that makes me annoyed with connie is just... well everything. but her choosing to spend every second of every day 'studying for college' when shes barely even 15 pisses me off soooo fucking much.
literally abandons every and everything else to sit and study with only 5-10 minute breaks. for college. that she isn't even in yet.
#i think about this often. it genuinely eats away at me how mad this one aspect of her 'character' makes me#like i sit down to take a morning shit and i think about how stupid it was for them to make her study for college when shes 14.#she isnt even a character to me bc she has just no personality#she is just 'book and sword girl'#and again theres no excuse for her to be so one dimensional when sh ewas WRITTEN BY MULTIPLE WOMEN.#and every other female character is so multi faceted and well written#but somehow they managed to completely drop the ball on connie#somehow they did worse humanizing a literal human girl than they did an alien species#(future is ~2 years after the show; in which steven is 14 and connie is 12. therefore she is a freshman in highschool in future.#and she's studying for college.#girl why dont you study for the actual school youre in right now.)#like studying for college 4 years before you eeven have the CHANCE to go in to college is not going to make you graduate college faster#yes people do graduate a year early#but thats a year.#and it's usually for masters degrees. ive rarely ever seen anyone graduate w/ their bachelors early.#and again. studying four years in the future before you even have the ability to ENTER college is fucking stupid#full stop#i know they show it to make her seem like a really smart and strong female character#but it just makes her look beyond stupid.#omg i just realized thats why i hate this and why i hate her after she starts sword fighting.#bc she just becomes a 'strong smart female character' archetype. she doesnt have any personality after that point#shes just there to fill a niche and a character template.#which again. is depressing because it's a story written mostly by women.#and almost the entire cast is women.#and all those other female characters are written SO well.#we have strong gems. smart gems. quirky gems. failcringe gems. smart AND strong gems#but they couldnt get a single human girl right.

Christmas II
Hardersson x Baby!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: Your first holiday season
Tumblr media
You sniffle a little bit in your pram.
You're fast asleep amongst your blankets but your little nose is red from the cold, as are your little cheeks.
"Are you sure you don't want to take her inside?" Popp asks as Pernille gently rocks the pram back and forth to settle you again. "It's warm there."
"She'll be fine out here," Pernille assures her," The cold air will be good for her lungs. We've got a call with Magda later and I want her to be awake for it."
"Magda can't come for Christmas?"
"She's still trying to sort out a flight but most of them are already booked up. She's going to try but..." Pernille sighs. "I don't know. It might just be me and the princesse. We'll survive."
"Well, you will," Popp laughs," But I'm not sure how long this one will in the cold."
Pernille rolls her eyes. "I told you! The cold is good for babies to nap in! She'll be fine!"
You sniffle a little in your sleep again, wiggling around in your pram and Pernille pops a dummy into your mouth. The effect is instant as you suckle it for comfort and drift back off to sleep again.
When you wake up, it's only because your dummy is being replaced with a bottle and people are standing over you and cooing.
Lots of your Momma's friends are watching you but it's the stern face of Caro that you focus on, legs kicking out happily as you feed from your bottle and reach out for Caro with your little grabby hands
"Caro's the favourite," Ewa teases, reaching up to ruffle her hair.
"Frido will be jealous," Pernille laughs as she adjusts your bottle so you're not drinking quite so quickly," She's convinced that she's the favourite."
Caro rolls her eyes dismissively. "Yeah, well Frido isn't exactly here, is she?"
Pernille's lips curl upwards into a smirk. "You've warmed up to my baby then? Because a few months ago, you would never say such a thing."
Your little hand curls around one of the fingers Caro offers you, a tight grip on the appendage that she wouldn't even get out if she tried.
"My heart isn't made of stone, Pernille," She says with an eye roll," Besides...y/n's...She's kind of cute when she's feeding."
"Do you want to feed her?"
"Let's not go that far. Baby steps."
You end taking yet another nap during the gym session and Pernille feels slightly vindicated when it's clear that this nap hasn't been nearly as nice as the nap you took in the cold air earlier.
The two naps you take at training gives you more than enough energy in the car to attempt to take both your shoes and socks off by the time that Pernille pulls up to the apartment.
In that time, you've managed both shoes, one sock while the other one hangs off half your foot.
"Good try, princesse," Pernille laughs, stroking a finger down your nose so you go adorably cross-eyed trying to follow it," But you haven't beat me yet. Let's get all of this back on, shall we?"
You make little huffing noises as Pernille puts your socks and shoes back on you, tightening them up so you won't be able to kick them off on the way upstairs to the apartment, as was your habit.
Pernille nearly drops her keys in shock at the sound of music playing through the front door, frozen in horror at the unexpected sound. Her grip on you tightens for a moment before Magda's horribly off tune singing reaches her ears and she's all but breaking the door down to get inside.
"You're here?!"
Magda's slumped over the kitchen table with a piping bag that she's trying to force icing out of to act as cement for a crumbling gingerbread house.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"I...The flights? The airport? You said-"
"But it's a good surprise, yeah?" Magda teases, gently taking you from Pernille's arms and kissing her girlfriend on the lips," Besides, I couldn't miss the little one's first Christmas. I've got such a nice Chelsea kit to put her into! It's got my name on the back, you know."
Pernille laughs, somewhere between delight and shock.
"Ow!" Magda yelps as the back of a hand connects with her shoulder. "What was that for?!"
"I thought someone had broken in!" Pernille scolds before bursting into laughter. "Next time, send a text!"
"And ruin my surprise? Never!" Magda's voice goes high pitched as she lifts you up to blow a raspberry on your belly. "You hear that Princesse? I'm never going to ruin a surprise!"
Your peels of laughter echoe over the music playing, feet kicking happily as Magda does it again.
"Let's get these little booties off," Magda coos at you," And this silly little snow suit. We've got a Chelsea kit to put you in!"
"It's not Christmas just yet," Pernille reminds her before she can sweep you away," We don't do early presents in this house."
"Bah!" Magda waves a dismissive hand. "What's a few days early? She won't understand."
"That's not the point," Pernille says with a laugh," But, by all means, if you think you can get her in that kit without crying, go right ahead. I'm going to shower."
"Yeah, yeah...Wait, what do you mean?!"
Getting you into that Chelsea kit, like Pernille predicted, didn't exactly work. You started crying the moment it was brought near you and you didn't stop until Magda banished it from your sight.
Instead, you're put into a fuzzy reindeer onesie that matches with Magda's own and the one that she'd left for Pernille on the bed.
"Is that my little reindeer making that noise?" Pernille coos as she comes back into the room to the sound of your little giggles as Magda tickles your tummy with your swan and moose toy.
"It is!" Magda says proudly," Your little reindeer also decided we're going to watch some Christmas movies tonight."
"Oh she did, did she?"
"She did," Magda insists, flipping up your onesie's hood to show off the little antlers on it," She also requests that we order in dinner rather than cooking."
Pernille laughs. "I'll grab the menus."

siempre para ti ─ alexia putellas x reader
in which: alexia scores the winner in el clasico. for you.

Tumblr media
Game days. Your worst favourite days. You loved going to watch your girlfriend do what she loves, really, but the nerves that came along with that weren’t as welcomed. Especially with El Clasico.
Alexia went through the motions, as she always did on game days. Had her usual breakfast, did some pre-pre-activation in your home gym and listened to the same 4 songs on repeat like she always did on matchdays. You could cite them all word for word now, but you wouldn’t dare complain and mess up her little routines.
She left you 4 hours before kick-off, a couple lingering kisses that would’ve lead to more if she didn’t have a 90-minute football game to go play, not without your promise that you’d be there and cheer for her if she scored. Alexia knew you’d be there and she knew you’d cheer the loudest of them all if she managed to get the ball in the back of the net, but who minds a little reassurance?
You made your way to the stadium well before the game started, not wanting to get caught in Barcelona’s rush hour traffic. You found your spot in the friends & family box, greeting Eli and Alba with a kiss on the cheek before settling in and glancing over at the Barça team who were already doing their warm-ups.
Alexia scanned the crowd when they were called inside, her gaze lighting up once her eyes found yours. You shot her a wave and an encouraging smile, which she reciprocated quickly – not without having to endure some teasing from Vicky.
The Spanish midfielder would never get used to seeing you in the stands. You probably hadn’t missed a home game yet in the past 4 years of dating each other, but she still felt fuzzy and warm inside when she saw the woman she loved most sitting in the stands of the football club she loved most. You were there for her, to watch her, in her shirt to cheer for her and she wanted to perform for you.
And that’s what she did. Barça took the game by the scruff of its neck, completely dominating and controlling the game from kick-off onwards. Chance after chance, shot after shot, the girls in blaugrana were all over their opponents. Aitana and Caro both had a big chance, but neither could convert. Much to your surprise and the team’s dismay, the 0-0 was still on the board when the referee blew the whistle for half-time.
They’d had the chances to be in front, but they hadn’t been clinical enough. This time, Alexia didn’t search for your eyes before she went into the tunnel, her professional demeanour never wavering a second once she was in game-mode. You hoped she wouldn’t be scolding herself too much over the promising free-kick she wasted.
The teams came back out 15 minutes later, and you finished up chatting to Alba as the game started again. More of the same, as expected, as Barça once again took control of the game. They were playing good football, passing the ball around, making runs in the channels and creating chances, but it felt like they couldn’t cross that final hurdle. Ingrid almost scored from a corner and they were claims for a penalty after a harsh tackle on Ewa, but nothing given.
It wasn’t until stoppage time that they had their best chance of the game. Some combinations at the back to play out of Madrid’s press, Patri was now rushing forward with the ball in midfield. She scanned the pitch, looking for options to lay the ball off to, sending it outside for Caro to chase. She got there first, beat her defender with a simple step over and sent a cross into the box.
It felt like slow motion, really. The final minutes ticking down on the clock, the ball sailing in the air, bodies pushing one another in the penalty area, until someone fell and they were shouts for a foul. You couldn’t make out who it was, who had fallen, but what you did make out was the whistle and the outstretched arm from the referee. Penalty.
Situations in football didn’t get much more pressure-loaded than this. A 93rd minute game-winning penalty in El Clasico. Your heart hammered against your chest, so you could only imagine how the players were feeling on the pitch. You’d been too caught up in a conversation with Eli to see Alexia had stepped up. She was stood near the ball, hands on her hips as she tried to calm her erratic breathing from having ran around the past 45 minutes.
The whistle sounded and Alexia took another couple deep breaths before beginning her run-up. A couple steps back. One to the side. Another deep breath. Short little steps to begin her run-up. A little pause. And then; the back of the net.
The stadium erupted, you cheered and jumped up and down to celebrate what would surely be the winning goal of the game. Alexia took off towards the corner flag to celebrate with the fans, her teammates soon barrelling in and tackling her down to the ground. You hugged Eli and Alba, the remnants of what had been a nerve-wracking game slowly washing away.
Alexia stood back up after a couple moments and her eyes scanned the friends and family box, looking for you. Your gazes locked and a toothy grin formed on her face, pointing her finger at the badge on her chest and then at you. She blew a kiss your way before turning back around and jogging over to her side of the pitch, leaving you with a warm feeling in your chest. No matter how many goals Alexia would dedicate to you, you’d never get tired of the fact it was your eyes she looked for after she made the ball hit the back of the net. It was you she blew a kiss, you she broke her stern captain bravado for.
It was much later when Alexia finally emerged from the changing room and into the friends and family area, surrounded by teammates and their speaker still playing loud music – clearly all very happy with the derby win. She was dressed in a pair of black trousers and a dark green shirt, clearly planning on celebrating the win. You could hear plans were made for a night out from where you were standing a little away from the group of players, as Alexia silently snuck away and walked over to you.
Your face lit up with a smile as the Barçelona captain come up to you with damp, disheveled hair, eyes tired with the exhaustion from running around for 90 minutes. “Hola, winner,” you teased, the brunette engulfing you in a tight hug. “Nice goal, hmm,” you said, lifting your shoulder a little so she would pull back. “Para ti,” Alexia whispered, her forehead resting against yours. “Siempre para ti.” Alexia accentuated her words with a soft kiss against your lips, pouring all her love for you in the short couple seconds of intimacy.
You closed your eyes and enjoyed the soft moment, clutching onto the back of her shirt tightly before she’d inevitably be pulled away by her teammates to get their night out going. Alexia’s arms circled around your waist in that ever familiar way, and even though you were here in a friends and family box in a stadium an hour and a half away from where you lived, Alexia’s embrace felt like home.

Have I Not Given Enough

pairings: arsenal wfc x young!reader
warnings: crying. self-blaming. teen!reader reacting to losing against wolfsburg.
author's note: oh to be comforted by the arsenal girlies...
masterlist
•••••••
''We'll come back stronger, kid. Only the start for you.'' Caitlin patted her back before making her way to congratulate the Wolfsburg players.
The Arsenal striker stood on her own now, bathing in the misery of defeat. The worn pitch beneath Y/N's boots felt colder, a stark contrast to the warmth of anticipation that had filled the air just hours ago.
This wasn't how it was supposed to end. The set-up was perfect; Arsenal making it into the Champions League finals for the first time in over 15 years at a sold-out Emirates Stadium.
Bremer's extra time goal had ruined it all. The cheers had been replaced by a haunting silence, broken only by distant celebrations from the victorious Wolfsburg team.
The teenager was a sad sight as she tried not to burst out in tears, standing all on her own by the opposition's goalposts. The gravity of the loss weighed on her shoulders
Somehow she managed to move her feet towards the other players, going through the post-match routine: congratulating the Wolfsburg players, who in return offered their solace.
It was nice to have players like Popp express their admiration for the youngster, but in the moment she couldn't bring herself to care one bit.
''Nice goal, kid.'' Ewa Pajor patted her head, praising her opening goal of the match, the one that had kickstarted the long, grueling fight between the German and English team.
Y/N managed a weak smile, grateful for the acknowledgment.
''Hey, hey, Boneca!'' Rafaelle approached her. ''You should be proud of yourself, okay? Remember the noise in the stadium when you made that goal? Savor that feeling.'' Her Brazilian teammate told her, holding her close.
Katie noticed the interaction and decided to join them, leaving Teyah and Lia behind. ''Hey, girlie. Why the sad face? You've just made yourself a legend.'' The Irishwoman managed to genuinely laugh.
''We lost, Macca.'' A few tears escaped, but they were immediately wiped away by Katie and Rafa.
''Yeah, and it hurts. But you, baby goat, just scored in a Champions League semifinal against a club that has won this thing 2 times.'' She grinned, the pride she felt beaming off of her face as she used the playful nickname.
Y/N was pulled into a supportive hug by Katie, providing much comfort. Rafa affectionately pinched her cheek before making her way towards their other teammates.
As the huddle expanded, more teammates joined them, forming a circle of support around the young player who felt this loss harder than anyone else.
Jen held her close to her body, as if shielding her from the harsh reality of the defeat. The Scott wasn't telling her anything, just holding her as their teammates tried getting a smile out of her.
''I was like ''Yeah! Woo!'' The atmosphere was insane!'' Manu did an impression of her reaction to Y/N's opening goal.
''It's like the stadium came alive, it was so fucking crazy!'' Kaylan exclaimed, with animated hand gestures.
Y/N appreciated her teammates and their consolations. However, she couldn't escape the weight of disappointment that she felt within her. Despite their genuine efforts to coax a smile, the young player found herself unable to entertain them.
''Oh my god, you did so well, Y/N. You were amazing.'' Victoria hugged her as Jen let her go.
''Thanks, Vic.'' She mumbled on the Dutchwoman's shoulder.
The midfielder swung her from side to side. ''Don't cry, it's okay.'' She tried to comfort her younger friend.
Y/N felt another pair of hands on her back, hands that belonged to another Dutchwoman, although, this time it was not a teammate.
''Hey, meid.'' Jill greeted her, and Y/N pulled away from Vic, who said something in Dutch to her patriot.
''There's gonna come a day where you're gonna lift that trophy, okay? You've grown so much.'' Her former teammate praised her.
The teenager nodded. ''Thanks, Jilly.''
Jill planted a kiss on her head, bidding goodbye as she joined her teammates again in their celebrations.
As Victoria pulled Y/N back into her embrace, the teenager's gaze caught sight of the approaching figures of Kim, Leah, Beth, and Vivianne.
The teenager skillfully transitioned from hugging Victoria, gently slipping away as the crowd dispersed. She made her way to the bench, where the atmosphere was more peaceful as most people were scattered around the pitch.
As she settled on the bench, Y/N took a deep breath, her emotions threatening to surface. Before she could fully let herself go, a familiar voice interrupted her thoughts.
''Hey, what's going on?'' Steph, observant as ever, approached with concern etched on her face.
The striker tried to mask her emotions with a forced smile. ''Just disappointed.''
Steph nodded understandingly. ''I get it. But you got us through this match, and I'm very proud of you.''
''Thanks, Stephy- you were amazing too.'' Y/N quickly reciprocated the compliment, her eyes darting around.
The Australian noticed a frown on her face. ''Hey… you okay? You look like you're having panic attack.''
At her words, Y/N looked her straight in the eyes. ''No, no! I just wanna go home, to be honest.'' It wasn't a lie. All she wanted to do was to get in the car, and lie in her bed until it was time for the next match.
Steph nodded. ''Take your time, sweetie.'' The defender joined the squad on the pitch again, leaving the young one alone.
In the distance, Beth approached Jen, her expression reflecting concern. ''Hey, Jen, have you seen Y/N?''
Jen furrowed her brow, scanning the surroundings. ''Uh, she was with Vic like a minute ago.''
''Oh, alright. How was she doing?''
The Scott pouted. ''Looked pretty torn up, as you'd expect. Some of us were trying to cheer her up, but you know the kid…'' She made some sort of gesture that indicated she was not taking it well.
''Poor thing.'' The Brit sighed.
Back on the bench, Y/N remained in solitude, staring mindlessly at nothing.
''Hiding?'' The sudden voice of Rose, their physiotherapist, made the youngster flinch.
''Jesus, Rose!'' Y/N exclaimed, her hand on her heart.
Rose chuckled, unfazed by the reaction. ''Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. You looked like you needed a moment.''
''Yeah…''
The older woman nodded at her lack of words. ''It's okay. Take all the time you need. We're doing the huddle in a minute, though, so you might want to join that.''
''Yeah, I will.'' Y/N replied.
Contemplating the upcoming huddle, Y/N's unease heightened when her eyes locked with Kim's on the pitch. The captain started walking over to her with an unreadable expression.
Unable to face the captain she respected so much, she rose from the bench, pretending she hadn't noticed Kim's approach.
Rose watched as Y/N escaped from the interaction with Kim, giving the captain a sad smile.
The teenager's eyes scanned the pitch, Gio's friendly wave caught Y/N's attention, and she decided to make her way towards her friend.
''Tough match, huh?'' She said, trying to offer some solace.
''To say the least.'' The Brit sighed, glancing down at the ground.
''You okay?'' The Brazilian asked, Y/N's darting eyes were anything but subtle.
''Yeah, I just… yeah, I'm fine.'' She stuttered, not having the heart to actually say what she was doing.
Gio could sense Y/N's unease. ''Should I get Beth or Viv?''
''No, no! Just… I don't wanna face them right now.'' She admitted.
''Why?'' The forward didn't understand, knowing how close she was with the couple.
''I just… I- I can't do it.''
Gio nodded anyway. ''Okay, stay with me then. We'll hang back a bit.''
Kathrine joined them as well, the three youngsters keeping each other company while waiting for the entire squad.
In the huddle, Y/N strategically averted her gaze, fixating on the ground beneath her feet.
As Jonas addressed the team, the weight of disappointment pressed heavily on her shoulders, and she struggled to engage fully in the moment.
''I'm proud of this team. We're standing here in a sold-out stadium, and we gave them a fight. We didn't give up and we gave our everything until the end.''
The Swede's words were a mere distant hum. Her mind replayed all the crucial moments of the match, each missed opportunity being screened in her mind.
While the team absorbed Jonas's encouragement, Y/N continued to bear the weight of her perceived failure, the applause and cheers around her a muffled backdrop to the cacophony of self-critical thoughts.
Afterwards, Lotte pulled her in an embrace. Her England teammate's presence being a source of comfort.
The Arsenal homegrowns' moment was interjected by someone grabbing Y/N's arm.
''A goal against Wolfsburg or what?'' The England captain said.
The attempt at light banter didn't quite reach her heavy heart, the teenager simply shrugging her shoulders.
Leah, perceptive as ever, sensed her teammate's unease and tried to give a sense of perspective. ''Hey, you have so much to be proud of. Look at this stadium! This is only the beginning.''
Despite the skipper's encouraging words, tears welled up in Y/N's eyes once again. The disappointment was cemented in her mind.
In the midst of her emotional turmoil, Vivianne and Beth approached, their expressions reflecting heavy concern.
Beth's eyes softened as she pulled Y/N into a gentle hug, aware of the unspoken pain lingering in the air. Vivianne placed a reassuring hand on her back, silently offering support.
''Hey, kiddo, you were absolutely brilliant.'' The elder of the two said, caressing the back of her head.
At the lack of response, she continued. ''It's okay to be upset, sweetheart. You're feeling a lot, aren't you?''
Y/N nodded, her voice catching as she struggled to articulate her feelings. The couple exchanged worried glances, realizing the impact the loss had on their young teammate.
''I'm so proud of you, you gave it your all.'' As Vivianne expressed her pride, Y/N's emotions reached a breaking point.
Sobs escaped her, and she clung tightly to her mentor, seeking refuge in the strength she had always admired.
The Dutchwoman took over from Beth, pulling the youngster even closer to her.
''I'm so sorry, Viv.'' Y/N apologized, full of guilt for not bringing the team to the Champions League final.
As she continued to apologize, Vivianne gently cupped her face and whispered reassuring words. ''Don't apologize. It's not about the result on the scoreboard. You played with your heart, and that's the most important thing.''
Y/N, overwhelmed by emotions, couldn't shake the feeling of letting down those she admired the most. ''I wanted us to win, especially for all of you who couldn't play.'' She mumbled.
''You've made all of us super proud, lieverd. It's a journey, remember? You still have a long way.'' She whispered, her own tears betraying the depth of her emotions.
Leah reached out to rest a hand on the teenager's shoulder. ''Darling, you were without a doubt one of the best players on the pitch.''
''I missed so many shots.'' Y/N stated through a sob.
''And so did the others. Don't carry this on your own, my girl.'' Leah retorted.
Beth and Lotte, recognizing the rawness of Y/N's emotions, instinctively moved to shield her from the intrusive gaze of the cameraman. ''Can you not?'' The defender furrowed her eyebrows.
The players didn't want their teammate's vulnerable moment to be exploited. Fortunately, the crew listened and moved further onto the pitch.
''I made so many mistakes.'' She continued crying. The floodgates had opened and closing them would be a difficult task.
''You didn't, darling. Like Beth said, you were brilliant.'' Leah's own eyes were now being filled with tears, Y/N's self-blame making her emotional.
Y/N shook her head at the skipper's words, hiding her face in Vivianne's neck. ''You were, listen to Leah.'' The Dutchwoman muttered, caressing her back.
''Hey, Y/N. Hey.'' Kim's voice sounded out of, seemingly, nowhere. Leah moved out of the way so the captain could get closer to the teenager. ''You've got nothing to be sad about. You played a fantastic match. Yeah, we didn't get the win, but you've made the club so proud.''
Her voice was stern, but it was a loving sternness. ''Let's go and thank the fans now. They deserve a proper thanks.'' She urged the entire group to do a lap of the pitch.
As the squad gathered together and walked around, the players waved and applauded the fans. The defeat stung, but the bond, not just between the players, but also between the players and the supporters is something special and unbreakable.
Regardless of the result, they're celebrating the players as if they did win and Y/N felt herself smile as she looked into the crowd, and seeing the Gooners experience this with them, with her.
In a quiet moment, Kim approached her again. ''You're creating something special here, Y/N. The way you've got the fans behind you… you're like their own personal star girl. Please, enjoy it,'' the midfielder patted her back, ''because this is what I want you to remember from this match.''
A teary-eyed Y/N, managed to nod her head in appreciation. ''Thanks, Kimmy.''
The pair found themselves holding hands as they continued thanking the fans. It was a beautiful image as it represented the older and new generation of Arsenal; Kim, a captain with years of experience, comforting Y/N, someone who undoubtedly was the future of the Gunners, and could potentially become a skipper in the distant future.

Forgotten, Not Forgiven - Chapter 26
This and previous chapters are also on AO3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lena was perhaps unreasonably proud of the small cup of lime jello she had managed to get her hands on, and bore it back to Kara with the air of a conquering hero bringing home the holy grail.
In her defence, it had been a mission to find. At L-Corp all she would have to do would be to buzz the request through to Jess, and within 15 minutes she would have had half a dozen different brands and flavours on her desk to choose from, but here at the DEO she had to do it the hard way. It turned out that surprisingly few of the very serious field agents, scientists and tech geniuses that worked at this particular top secret government organisation brought jello to work with them for lunch, and even fewer still had it untouched at 2.30pm. In fact, this applied to exactly one person in the entire building, as far as Lena had been able to ascertain: Ms Ewa Jagoda, alien toxicology specialist, jello enthusiast, and Lena’s official new favourite DEO lab technician.
She had intended to present the jello with a dramatised retelling of her misadventurous quest, both to keep up her own distraction and to make Kara laugh, but in the time she had been gone it seemed visiting hour had opened up. On one side of the bed J’onn was talking to Kara with a paternal expression that mingled stern and concerned in equal measure, while beside him Kelly gently combed the last traces of dried blood and street dust from her hair. Across from them Nia and Brainy were good naturedly bickering over the ideal placement and wording for a leg cast signature, passing a marker back and forth between them without stopping their debate long enough to actually write anything down. It was such a familiar scene, all of them talking over each other and cracking jokes, that it took a moment for Lena to work out what was wrong with it. Then it hit her: Nia, Brainy, J’onn, Kelly, Kara, but no Alex.
She was here, in the room, but rather than being gathered in by the bedside she was standing off to one side, leaning up against the wall with Kara’s chart in her hand. She had washed the tear tracks from her face at some point since they’d talked, but it did nothing to disguise the lingering redness around her eyes or the ragged scabbiness of a lower lip chewed to the point of bleeding one too many times. She was ostensibly making medical notes, but the fact that her gaze remained fixed on one point and she never actually put pen to paper suggested otherwise. Alex was clearly not okay.
Lena glanced briefly over at Kara, the part of her heart that always tugged in that direction urging her to move towards the bedside, to claim a place beside her, take hold of her hand and never let it go. Today of all days with her fear and shock still roiling just below the surface the instinct was difficult to ignore, but Lena managed to hold back. Kara was in the midst of a game of tic tac toe with Kelly on her otherwise still unsigned cast, and seemed happy with the company of her friends. She didn’t need Lena right now, and after a second or two more of silent internal wrestling, she made her way over to the elder Danvers sister instead.
‘Hey. All okay?’ she murmured, keeping her voice low enough not to draw anyone else’s attention to the question.
‘Huh?’
Alex stopped tapping the end of her pen against her teeth and looked at Lena distractedly, blinking slowly back from whatever thoughts had been absorbing her.
‘Oh, yeah, it’s all fine. She’s doing as well as we could reasonably hope for at this stage without you-know-whats, and there’s no internal damage to speak of. She should make a full recovery.’
‘That’s great news, but I actually meant you… no offence Alex, but you look awful.’
Alex snorted.
‘Thanks a lot Luthor. Do you actually know what no offence means?’
For once Lena hadn’t actually been trying to be provoking, but Alex had clearly taken the comment as part of their usual banter and huffed back at her, giving her a little poke in the ribs with the chewed end of her pen as if the comment had been a dire insult. Lena briefly considered apologising, but it was good to see the vague, distant expression transformed into Alex’s comfortably familiar trademark Luthor v. Danvers snark-battle scowl.
If she had been talking to Kara, or Jess, or even Sam, Lena probably would have gentled her approach at this point even so. She was concerned for her friend, and wanted to take care of her as best she could in their current circumstances. But she suspected that despite her protestations Alex, like Lena herself, would not want to be coddled right now. Breaking down in a roomful of people (even people you loved) was humiliating, and there was nothing that could bring down walls so effectively as someone being sweet to you when you were trying to be strong. So Lena wasn’t sweet. She folded her arms and met Alex’s glower with an unyielding look of her own.
‘Well, I’m not wrong.’
Alex narrowed her eyes, preparing to argue, but then apparently decided she didn't have the energy for it. She hugged the chart to her chest like it might somehow shield her, and let the scowl drop.
‘Yeah.’
‘Do you want to talk about it?’
‘There’s nothing to talk about, really. It just- it feels different this time, you know? I’ve been here so many times before it should just feel like another day at the office, but it never does, and somehow this one’s worse than usual. For all the… incidents… we’ve had, they’re almost always in the midst of world ending fights where a certain amount damage is expected, and most times the injured party is back to normal within a few hours. But this- it’s not meant to be like this. I know we’ll find a way to fix it eventually, but what if-’
Alex broke off, unable to say more with the risk of being overheard so acute, but Lena didn’t need to hear the rest of the sentence to know what came next. Alex was scared that Kara would hurt herself again before they found a cure to return her invulnerability, and that next time this happened she wouldn’t be so lucky. Lena was scared of that too.
‘I know.’
They stood together in silent solidarity for a few moments, then Alex nudged her again.
‘I was going to return the compliment and point out in great detail all the ways you look awful, but you actually don’t. You look… weirdly unruffled. Like, unnaturally so. And as much as that makes me want to rough you up a little to even things out, I’m guessing this is just that thing you do, and at some point it’s going to break and become a full on freak out?’
Lena could have denied it, insisted that she really was totally fine: another day, another near death experience for herself or a loved one; but at some point in their re-aquaintenceship and without her noticing it happening, things had shifted so far with Alex that bluffing would have been pointless. She knew her too well for that now. Besides, after their afternoon of breaking things together there was an element of camaraderie to their shared turmoil, and Lena found she didn’t even want to lie about it. So she shrugged.
‘That’s the plan, yes. It’s on my to do list for when I leave here, actually.’
‘On your- y’know, if anyone but you or Brainy said that I’d assume they were speaking figuratively, but-’
Lena pulled out her phone and navigated quickly into her personal calendar, smirking as she held it out to show Alex the 15 minute block labelled ‘Feel Things’ she had entered for this evening. It wasn’t serious, obviously. She might be a Luthor, but even she couldn’t plan her emotional breakdowns quite so precisely. It was more like a promise to herself, and a reminder that while she needed to keep a handle on herself right now, maybe putting everything into a box and never looking at it again wasn’t how she wanted to deal with things anymore, and at some point that meant she was going to have to feel it (later though. Much later. And alone). It had also been a whim that she had only indulged in order to kill a few extra seconds while she waited for the elevator to carry her and her newly acquired jello back to this level, and one she probably would have deleted in embarrassment given another hour or so. Now though, as Alex choked on her laughter at the sight of it, she was glad she hadn’t.
‘You actually did. Jeez Luthor, the inside of your brain must be really-’
‘Lena, hey!’
Up until now they had been conversing barely above a whisper, but at the bright peel of Alex’s laughter Kara had looked up from her game and at last realised Lena was back in the room. Her bruised face lit up with a lob-sided, swollen lipped grin that could equally have been for Lena or the vibrantly green dessert she was holding. It was painfully endearing, and like a moth to a flame Lena took an automatic step towards it, then paused and turned back to Alex.
‘Hey… if you want to get drunk about this later, I have a $2000 dollar bottle of scotch with our names on it. Just say the word.’
Alex blinked at her – she was usually the one to reach out to make plans, while Lena was the one being coaxed into them, it had never happened this way round before. She smiled, a quieter version of Kara’s surround sound beam, and a little of her weariness seemed to fall away.
‘Yeah, okay... I’ll text you.’
‘Do.’
Then Lena gave in to Kara’s magnetic pull and made her way swiftly to the bedside, jello cup held out in front of her like an offering.
‘I can’t believe you actually found this for me! I realised after you were gone that the pain meds were maybe making me a bit loopy and there was no way you could actually get jello without trekking a mile out to the nearest grocery store. But you did! You are officially the best.’
Kara balanced the pot on the edge of her cast, freeing her good hand long enough to give Lena’s a grateful squeeze, their fingers curling together so naturally that the idea of letting go seemed impossible. But then Brainy held out the spoon that he had apparently (inexplicably, since no one had told him Lena was off looking for jello) thought to bring with him into the room, and the moment passed.
It would have been ridiculous to feel a little pang of loss as Kara withdrew her warm fingers from hers, so Lena didn’t. She looked round at everyone else and used her empty hand to wave at them all instead, as if that was why it had been held out in the first place.
‘Hi.’
J’onn and Brainy responded with smiles, nods and murmured greetings, and Kelly pulled Lena into a quick hug. She was just relaxing into it when Nia followed up her friendly ‘hey’ with ‘aren’t you meant to be out of town until tomorrow though? Did you cancel your big press thing?’ and Lena stiffened.
As one everyone in the room turned to look at her, Kelly’s arm going slack around her tense shoulders and Kara freezing with a heaped spoonful of jello quivering just outside her open mouth. The question was clearly well intentioned, but Lena still wished Nia hadn’t asked it. It made it hard to keep ignoring the twisting in her insides that was determinedly trying to remind her just what a big deal this might have been for L-Corp.
‘I didn’t cancel. They didn’t need me for the product demo anyway, and I had someone step in to give my speech. It’s all taken care of... But if anyone asks, I’m currently recovering from an emergency appendectomy.’
She forced a chuckle, trying to break the tension and make it a joke, but it fell flat, and Kara dropped her over-laden spoon back into its pot with a soft, dismayed splat.
‘You told them you had appendicitis? I’m so sorry you had to do that for me when I’m not even badly hurt, and it was all my own stupid fault. I feel awful.’
‘Oh no, Kara, this one was all me.’ Alex finally abandoned her post by the wall to reassure her sister, stepping in to stand beside Brainy and casting guilty glances between Kara (bruised and now slightly jello spattered but very much alive and more or less well) and Lena (still dressed in her presentation outfit and probably wearing a fixed grimace of discomfort from all the attention, though apparently not enough of one to divert it).
‘Lena, I’m the one that asked you to come back without thinking about what else you were in the middle of. I’m sorry for putting you in a difficult position when we didn’t even know how bad it was yet.’
Lena frowned. ‘If you hadn’t told me I would be plotting where to bury your murdered body right now, as I’m sure you would me if our positions had been reversed. It was my choice to drop everything and I’m glad I did, so please, don’t worry about it.’
She meant what she said, but it didn’t diminish the unease that still writhed in her belly at the reminder of just how abruptly she had abandoned the press conference. She wondered how Jess had gotten on without her, and whether Raj and Amanda had managed the product demo as smoothly as they had in previous events. Had there been questions they couldn’t answer? Had anyone pressed the issue of Lena’s sudden non-attendance? She hadn’t talked to many people ahead of the event, but enough of the staff had seen her looking not at all like someone about to collapse with a ruptured appendix that it was possible her story was going to be interrogated.
Still, there was nothing she could do about any of that right now. She needed to focus on Kara for the moment, and when she got home later she would start on damage control. She’d call Jess to check she was alright after being thrown to the metaphorical wolves. She’d make sure her bonus was processed right away, and maybe order a muffin basket or something as an extra thank you. Then she would go through the conference footage and draft something for the press to smooth over anything that needed smoothing. Whatever had happened, Lena could deal with it. And even if the whole thing had been the worst PR disaster imaginable, she was still glad she had made the decision she had. If Kara had been more badly hurt, if she had died without her while Lena was off talking to the press, she would never have been able to forgive herself.
She did her best to focus back in on the conversation the others were having, which had thankfully moved on from Lena to the best flavour of jello (black cherry, or else anything with a bit of zing to balance out the sweetness. Strawberry was also acceptable, but Brainy’s assertion that it was berry blue was preposterous, and frankly objectionable), and what exactly it was about it that made it so satisfying to eat (the jiggles, obviously).
After twenty minutes or so Alex said that Kara was looking tired, and as her doctor she thought they’d better all leave her to rest now, so one by one the others hugged her (carefully), told her how glad they were that she was alright, then filed out the room. Lena reluctantly made to do the same, but Kara held on when she moved to straighten from the hug.
‘Stay with me a little while longer? I’m not too tired for you.’
She shuffled over on her mattress as best she could, patting the space beside her invitingly.
‘I should probably at least sit on the chair, I don’t want to hurt you.’
‘You won’t hurt me. Besides, being in pain makes me kind of needy, and I want to be held… if you’d be okay with that?’
Lena felt her lower lip tremble slightly with the request. There was nothing in the world she wanted right now as much as she wanted to hold Kara, but it wasn’t going to make keeping her feelings in under control any easier…
But maybe it didn’t matter.
Maybe she didn’t care anymore.
Screw her carefully scheduled slot to feel things only once she was safely alone. Kara had nearly died today, and they both needed this too much to deny it.
Lena kicked off her stilettos, taking a beat to savour the sudden reduction of pain as her feet dropped back into their natural position and her toes wriggled gratefully against the cold linoleum. The small concession to comfort felt so good that after a moment’s consideration she followed it up by shrugging out of her blazer, untucking her shirt and loosening her tight chignon before finally easing herself into the space Kara had made for her, moving slowly to avoid jostling any injured parts. As soon as Lena’s arm was in place around her shoulders Kara relaxed into the embrace, a long, quiet breath escaping her lips in a sigh that could have been pain or relief or simple exhaustion.
‘Thank you. I know you probably have other places to be right now, but I’m really grateful for you staying here with me like this.’
Lena pulled her in a little closer, the physical contact making her feel suddenly, absurdly protective, as if she could somehow retroactively keep Kara from getting hurt just by holding her close enough.
‘Forget other places to be, I don’t want to let you out of my sight. Look what happened last time.’
‘Well, I don’t think I’m very likely to get in much trouble from here.’
‘I wouldn’t put it past you after what happened today. What if you decide hospital bed stair surfing would be a good idea next?’
It was meant to be a joke, but the tone came out all wrong and it didn’t feel like one to Lena. At this point she wasn’t sure she could put anything past this version of Kara who seemed to have all of Supergirl’s recklessness and none of her invincibility, and the thought made her simultaneously sick with worry and hot with anger that Kara could treat her life so casually. It was one thing when she was saving the world, but this risk had been so pointless.
Kara however either missed or willfully ignored her tone, taking what she’d said at face value and grinning the mischievous grin that would usually make Lena melt, playing along as if their situation was perfectly normal.
‘Now there’s an idea. I bet if you took a run up and pushed I could get up enough speed to make it all the way down without rolling.’
‘KARA!’
Lena’s voice cracked, and Kara’s smile faded as she finally noticed the tears glimmering on her lashes.
‘Hey… Lena, I’m just kidding.’
She knew that, of course. Downplaying and making light of traumatic events was Kara’s default coping mechanism, and she hadn’t even really been the one to start it this time… But still, it tore at the walls Lena was maintaining around her feelings and grated at her frayed nerves. The anger she had been trying so hard to tell herself wasn’t there stirred again, hot and desperate insider her, and she snapped:
‘Don’t. Not about this.’
She met Kara’s eyes as the expression in them finally began to lose its playful twinkle, but it wasn’t enough. She needed her to feel it, and Lena poured every ounce of sincerity she dared to express into her next words.
‘Kara... I’m furious with you for jumping off that roof. You understand that, right? I’m too relieved and you’re too hurt for me to yell at you about it, but I also can’t listen to you joke like it’s nothing. If you died it would break me. And if you died because of something so stupid-’
‘I won’t.’
Kara’s interruption forestalled the rest of Lena’s admonishment, but she wasn’t quite ready to leave it at that. She needed to hear her say it properly.
‘You won’t what?’
‘I won’t joke anymore. You’re right, it’s not fair on you. I can’t even imagine how I’d feel if it was the other way round, if it was you who had-’
Kara broke off with what probably would have been a shudder if not for her sore muscles, and nudged in a little closer against Lena’s side.
‘I promise I won’t do anything like this again. I really am sorry for what happened, I swear I never meant to cause all this trouble.’
‘So... why did you do it? I know you’ve been enjoying climbing and paragliding and the rest, but you must have known how reckless this was. What got into you Kara?’
‘I’ve been asking myself that ever since I woke up here, and the answer is… I honestly don’t know. Looking back I can see that it was a stupid thing to do, but it didn’t feel reckless to me at the time. I can’t explain it in a way that makes any sense, but when I was doing it, it just felt like I couldn’t fall. Like gravity wasn’t even an issue for me, and the air would catch me and carry me where I needed to go. Up on that rooftop I felt so close to- I don’t know, something. It was like if I just went on a little bit longer, jumped a little bit further, everything would click, and I wouldn’t need to keep chasing that feeling anymore… Urgh, that sounds so crazy. Maybe I am crazy.’
Lena softened at once.
‘Oh darling, of course you’re not.’
Actually, the explanation made far too much sense, and she couldn’t even really blame Kara for it (well alright, she could. Kara was still an adult supposedly capable of rational decision making who had jumped off a damned roof. But maybe it wasn’t just her fault). After all, Lena was the one that had poked a hole in her mental barrier without understanding how it worked and let just enough of Supergirl leak out to make Kara feel like she could fly without any of the actual accompanying powers to back it up. She was also the one that had made Kara promise to wait until they’d researched proper abseiling techniques, then failed to follow through and help her find a safe outlet when it was obviously something she badly needed. And she was the one who still, after months working on the problem, hadn’t found a way to bring back Kara’s memories and physical invulnerability to make sure something like this couldn’t happen to her in the first place.
Kara must be so confused...
‘It was probably just the adrenaline high, you got carried away. I’m sure you’re not the first person to experience that, and you won’t be the last. And as long as that was your last, I won’t keep going on about it anymore. I’m just glad you’re going to be alright.’
‘Me too. And it’s definitely the last, I’ve learned my lesson.’
The remains of Lena’s anger at her best friend drained away, and she let her head fall back into the pillows behind them in relief.
‘That’s okay then.’
My thoughts on every single player today for Barça
Starting XI
Cata - needs to stop pissing about with the ball on the goal line it’s gonna backfire massively eventually. But to be fair she made a good few saves could’ve easily been more.
Frido - did fuck all really basically always passed backwards made a few nice passes to alexia but that’s it.
Mapi - fucking awful her and Ingrid as a CB partnership doesn’t work. They’re a great couple but a CB partnership not so much. Honestly baffled at how she managed to play a full 90’ that booking she got she was bloody lucky Ingrid was there or that was a red card.
Ingrid - was better of the CBs coped with Bummy relatively well. Personally feel she shouldn’t have been subbed off but hey ho im not the manager. She is as solid defender.
Ona - wasn’t great wasn’t awful honestly didn’t really notice her in the first half she did an awful throw in in the second half tho.
Keira - didn’t notice her at all in the entire game apart from that god awful shot she had near the end of the game.
Patri - worst player on the pitch for me. Can’t pass for shit especially forwards passing back to mapi she’s great at that but we aren’t playing fucking rugby. Honestly can’t believe she wasn’t taken off at half time abysmal.
Aitana - had an… okay game. Came alive towards the end of the game and made a good few chances could’ve had more chances if you know caro would fucking run but whatever. One of the better players of the starting XI.
Alexia - was fucking everywhere on that pitch can’t really complain at her today could’ve probably done more tho but so could everyone.
Ewa - best player that started ran her fucking socks off for unlucky a few times wasn’t she the one that hit the post? And then that shot that was cleared off the line by Laia. (We need her next season) kinda dwindled towards the end of the game but girlie was probably dead.
Caro - second worst after Patri. Literally did nothing had a few chances but blew them badly. So many passes that came her way and she just didn’t fucking run drove me up the wall. I’m a firm believer she should get that ballon dor but girl these performances she’s been putting out this season aren’t it. Please please become 23/24 CGH again xoxo.
Subs
Pina - brought that spark to the attack that we were seriously lacking but bringing Ingrid off for her was a lil weird. But easily POTM for me tonight changed that game attacking wise a tone and should’ve started.
Esmee - another player I firmly believe should’ve been brought on at half time. Came on in that LB role she’s been playing all season and calmed that area of the pitch down. She’s gonna be immense this season.
Irene - should’ve A. Started. B. Come on at half time or C. Come on with Pina. She’s a brick wall we need her in defence she needs to be the starting CB especially in big games like that with players like bunny shaw against us. We needed her today played well for what the 10 minutes she was on the pitch??
Vicky - I love her I really do. Spent more time doing caros job when she came on this girl is gonna win a ballon dor. Again brought a spark that we so desperately craved but unfortunately was just too late.
Kika - a bit like Vicky but more bitey again could’ve done with been given more time and not have been brought on when we were 2-0 down in the 86th minutes does that man expect these kids to work wonders or something???
Manager
Pere - me no like you. You’ve changed something about this Barça team and I’m not a fan of it they’ve lost all the flair and confidence they had under Jonatan. And with him we aren’t winning that CL sorry to say it.
Jonatan - come back home I miss you gonna kms
Home~ Neteyam x Metkayina!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Leaving behind everything he knew was hard for Neteyam and then adapting to the ways of the new clan was even harder. He'd push himself, overwork and exhaust himself even, to live upto his family's expectations; never really giving his own wants a second thought. That's why Y/N was the prefect companion for him, someone who kept things in his life balanced, who made sure to let him know that what he wanted was just as important, perhaps even more so, than what everyone else wanted of him.
//slow burn, time skip//
masterlist, Part 7
Part 6
🫧
-Flashback-
Time had seemingly frozen for Neteyam in that moment.
The words 'I've been shot' left him feeling like a bullet had gone right through him as well.
He did his very best to keep Y/N afloat, feeling helpless as she continued to bleed from being shot.
"Lo'ak help me" he desperately asked, clicking his tongue at the ilu next to them to swim closer.
They'd managed to get off the sky people's ship, with Spider too and yet Neteyam felt that all his efforts had been in vain. Their escape wasn’t planned out but he thought he could’ve been better at what he always felt was his job: protecting.
He held Y/N close to him, his chin resting atop her head.
With every passing second, his heart only began to pick up pace and a strange feeling engulfed him; like a stone twice his weight was placed on his chest.
He couldn’t bare the idea of losing her so he pushed those thoughts away the best he could yet the dread of the possibility of said instance occurring, lingered.
Lo'ak's voice seemed so distant when he called out to their dad despite him being right behind him.
Y/N coughed and winced in pain as she was carried from the ilu to a rock, clenching her teeth to keep herself from letting all of that antagonising pain emerge in the form of a scream.
Tsirerya was already crying, Lo'ak also just moments from doing the same as they encircled Y/N while Jake examined her briefly.
Neteyam refused to take his eyes off her, his hand holding her's as she occasionally squeezed when the pain got too much.
'Do not take her' he inwardly prayed to Ewa, borderline begging.
He felt as though he had been entrapped in a bad dream and he wanted nothing more than to just wake up to find all of this wasn’t really happening.
"No exit wound" He breathed out, making Neteyam's ears shoot up.
Despite being wounded pretty bad, there was still a slim chance to save her.
Whilst his parents along with Spider went back for his sisters, Neteyam made haste for the village with Y/N.
There was a flame of hope set ablaze at the mention of a possibility that she could be saved and Neteyam would fight almost anyone or anything who would stand in his way of saving her.
"Neteyam" she weakly called out, using up whatever strength she had just to call out his name
'You’re going to be okay' he immediately cut her off before she had a chance to say anything else that would suggest she was giving up 'stay with me, you’re going to be okay'
-End of flashback-
Neteyam and Y/N had, to everyone's surprise, grown distant over the past six years.
Or more like, had been making every effort to stay away from each other as much as possible.
They were like the same poles of a magnet, repelling away from the other.
They both refused to talk about it when questioned and just brushed it off but being part of the same friend circle meant there were some occasions in which they just couldn’t avoid each other and just had to put on a fake front and deal with each other's existence; not to mention the awkward atmosphere they created and the tension that everyone in their group sensed and had to deal with.
"Bro you can’t keep me in the dark about this" Lo'ak groaned, pestering his brother as they sat by the trees at the beach, making arrows as per the instruction of Ronal "I'm your brother, tell me what happened"
"For the last time baby bro, nothing happened" Neteyam rolled his eyes, wrapping the twine around the head of the arrow "sometimes people grow apart"
"Not you two" Lo'ak gave him a look that was a mixture of suspicion and confusion "you guys going from inseparable to absolute strangers is so weird"
"Lo'ak-"
"And anytime you do have any conversations" Lo'ak continued "that include more words than just 'hi' or 'hey' it's you two arguing over something stupid"
"Just shut up and do your work" Neteyam playfully smacked the back of his head, not really responding to his statements. Mostly because what his brother was saying was true.
He and Y/N seemed to bicker more than having an actual conversation; those silly banters seemed to be the only time they actually interacted with each other for more than five seconds and even though Neteyam would never admit it, he did not mind.
If that was the only way they would communicate, so be it; as long as it meant he would still be in contact with her.
He found it pathetic but their relationship at this point had sort of narrowed down to only awkward greetings and immature arguments which were never taken to heart but never really playful either.
He did not like the arguments but it came almost naturally and Neteyam had to admit it was both comical and cute when Y/N pouted and puffed anytime she got frustrated enough at him.
Once they were done crafting the arrows, they headed toward Tonowari’s pod to drop them off, or more like Neteyam having to deliver them all by himself while Lo'ak dumped his share of arrows with him and ran off.
When he arrived at the pod Aonung was there to tell him where to put the arrows before he took his leave for his hunting lessons.
Not wanting to dawdle too long in someone else’s home, he made his way toward the designated place for where the arrows were stored along with a few spears which was located right at the end of the pod near the back door that overlooked the blue sea that flowed beneath most of the village.
The tranquil sound of the breeze blowing in harmony with the waves was accompanied by a soft and irregular humming which captured Neteyam’s attention.
He peaked outside the archway of the back door to look at where the humming was coming from.
There was a hammock that was set up right above the waters, in which Y/N seemed to be peacefully asleep. She looked just as ethereal as she did when he first saw her and he wondered how she managed to do it so effortlessly even while being asleep.
He was fully aware that it was weird to gawk so shamelessly at someone when they’re sleeping but that didn’t seem to stop him from inching closer to get a better look at her.
Not a second too soon and he knew he shouldn’t have made the stupid decision of moving toward Y/N because as soon as he did, he stepped on either a small rock or a shell, either of which were sharp enough to send a surge of pain up his foot that caused him to wince in pain- making him drop all of the arrows.
The sound of the arrows falling onto the wooden porch along with his painful wincing awoke the girl and immediately her eyes locked with his.
A mix of both dread and embarrassment washed over Neteyam like a tidal wave and he wanted nothing more than to just dissolve into the waters beneath him and erase himself from this situation.
Just like how anyone would react to waking up and seeing that you were being watched while you slept, Y/N screamed with both fright and confusion. She jolted upright, the sudden and quick movement causing the hammock to rock violently.
Neteyam tried to help her before she fell, moving toward her with his arm stretched out to hold on to either her hand or the hammock, whichever he managed to catch first.
But things only seemed to be going downhill for him and he stepped onto one of the many arrows pooled around him, the pointy side jabbing at the same foot he’d hurt only a few seconds ago and he yelped in agony, the second surge of pain causing him to lose his balance and topple into the hammock; sending the boy crashing into the waters and Y/N along with him.
“You skxawng!” Y/N snapped at him as she rubbed the water out of her eyes “what is wrong with you?”
“I was trying to help you” Neteyam snapped right back, not too happy about falling and then being yelled at over it. He hauled himself over the narrow porch, outstretching his arm for Y/N to take so that he could pull her up, which she took.
“Help me? You threw me over” she huffed.
“Oh no, you were doing just fine falling off by yourself” he immediately shot back.
“Who-who lurks around and stares at someone when they’re sleeping? Creep, that’s why I fell for you” She briefly paused to correct her slip-of-tongue “I fell because of you”
Neteyam wanted to drop it, he really did but he couldn’t fight back the grin that etched its way to his face.
“Fell for me?” He repeated with a shit eating smirk that he knew would earn him a slap from Y/N “aw shit Y/N, didn’t know being a creep was all it took to get you to fall for me”
“So you admit being a creep?” There was absolutely no amusement in her tone whatsoever and Neteyam could tell he was getting under her skin.
“Wait till I tell all the boys about this” he knew he was pushing it. Y/N did sometimes get so hot-headed that she’d fumble over her words but this time she’d just dropped a pot of gold at his feet and Neteyam was going to bask in this moment for as long as he could “I'll tell them they can drop all their extravagant acts of bravado, just staring at Y/N while she sleeps will have her swooning at you in no time”
“Get out you annoying jungle frog” she smacked his arm, running out of patience and the sound of laughter that escaped Neteyam’s lips only seemed to further infuriate her.
“Okay okay my love, I’m out” he raised his hands in surrender as he got to his feet “you’re cranky when you just wake up anyway”
“My love?” Y/N confusingly repeated, her English accent just as heavy as Neteyam’s “what’s that?”
Neteyam didn’t know why he said that, it just sorta slipped out. He didn’t mean anything by it but he knew explaining what the word meant would only make things weird.
With his back still faced toward her, he bent down to pick up the mess of arrows he’d made and neatly put them away in a corner all while an awkward silence surrounded him.
He wasn’t sure if the prolonged pause was because she was awaiting a translation or if she’d just dropped the conversation but he decided to respond with a ‘it’s nothing’ before he made himself scarce.
___
Over the last six years, Y/N’s spirit of competition only seemed to grow stronger. It had reached a point where even Aonung didn’t try to challenge her much, it was just too exhausting.
So when her recent little encounter with Neteyam ended not only with her absolutely butchering the words that came out of her mouth but with him teasing her for it, proceeding to say something in English which was indefinitely an insult and then refusing to translate it for her, it only left Y/N feeling more annoyed at him.
That was something Neteyam had been doing a lot over the years: being absolutely insufferable and annoying.
She didn’t know what brought it upon him, one moment he was an absolute sweetheart and then all of a sudden he just couldn’t stand to be around her. Ever since that entire fiasco with Quaritch and the sky people, things had become so different.
Neteyam initially used to stay away from her, as if she were a deadly sickness he was afraid of catching. Anytime he’d see her, he’d just turn and go the other way.
And then eventually overtime it turned into silently glancing at each other and then quickly looking away as soon as their eyes met.
From there it evolved into forced smiles anytime they hung out with their friends, occasionally bringing themselves to say a greeting or a goodbye when they dispersed.
Which then became this mess of silly insults and childish banter.
And for some reason, it just stuck that way; never once did they ever come even remotely close to having a normal, sweet conversation like how they used to haven when the Sullys first arrived.
The war between the Na’vi and the sky people had ended but the one between Neteyam and Y/N seemed nowhere near finished.
Final little Akoko household post. The family is now growing um, some grain type (city slicker gang gang) and the rain is much appreciated. After changing baby Adie, Suyana gets herself a new top while Ibukun warms up from the rainy fieldwork to get ready for homework, with which his mom helps.
She really has her hands full now that Oorun is working away from home, sometimes staying in her sleepwear until evening when it's time to make dinner for everyone. but she manages to teach little Pataki to talk or sing i guess (id ont remember lol). Also Ewa brought her cousin Yiyara home from school, cool
Pataki is still cute
Oorun's getting used to living in a new area for the first time in his long life. You can see really far out to sea here.
An injured squirrel found by the side of a road has been given a second life after being rescued by ‘Good Samaritans’ and driven to a wildlife rehabilitation center 140 km away.
The animal was spotted in the village of Myje in western Poland by an eagle-eyed driver going to pick her son up from school. The woman named Mrs Ewa attempted to stop and help the squirrel, but it managed to escape. But on her return journey, she again saw the animal and decided to contact Animal Helper, a free application designed to provide swift assistance for animals in need. They contacted a local vet who, recognizing the squirrel still had a chance of surviving, reached out to officials from a nearby town where a kind-hearted employee agreed to make the 140km drive to the specialist rehab center. After carrying out a life-saving operation, the center’s Paulina Cudna said: “The squirrel has a broken femur, and when it comes to the pelvis, this type of fracture is treated by limiting movement.
“Currently, it is wrapped in three thick blankets and comes out at night to fill them with food from its bowl. “It is receiving injections and is already very quick and lively.” She added: “If everything heals as it should, it will return to its natural environment in the spring.” Animal Helper has now praised the anonymous official who made the marathon drive to save the squirrel. The organization’s Magdalena Matelska said: “If we could, we would set up a monument for this man. For sure, we can hold him up as a model. “We often encounter a dismissive attitude toward animals in our work, especially wild ones. In this case, it was different. “The Ostrzeszów municipality (where the official is from) knows how to take care of its animals.” Paulina Cudna from the rehabilitation center added: “We’re impressed. Such commitment is truly rare. Occasionally, officials bring us larger animals like storks, but a squirrel? This is a first.”
The kids somehow manage to make it to prom even though they're currently camping. Everyone had a pretty good time, especially Galen, Gavin, and Emily.
(Ewa was doing her own thing - mostly dancing by herself and eating.)
