It has come to my attention that tumblr user @evulchibi https://evulchibi.tumblr.com who is known for het fantasy inspired art has created a complete whitewashed Black Panther art of T’Challa. For any who know of them this is unexpectedly out of the blue especially considering their usual content. I refuse to link it as I will not indulge this user nor be their outlet; you may research as you choose.

Whitewashing. It is inevitable. It isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last. However in these trying times where PoC are falling in cold blood on the streets this was not only bad timing but worse taste. When we as PoC, especially as Black People, are starving for representation there is no better example of white privilege than to take that representation away as well boldly defend such a decision.

It is your decision to admire or detest the piece, but this is for those who clearly see the issue with pieces such as these. Whether this user is doing this for attention or perhaps publicity for their Patreon and other forms of media I strongly advise that if you wish to make an impact to blacklist them and delete your comments and reblogs as well as refrain from inflating any more likes, reblogs, or replies on the piece in question or any other piece they have created. This goes for any and all users who have done the same or similar.

They are an artist and it is theirs to create however poor in taste, but you can decide in what content you indulge and what art surrounds your orbit. There is no need to send hate, it is wasted on the ignorant, your impact can be far more direct. Do not give them a voice, give them the gift of silence.

White washing well known African/African-American characters is not okay. Making T'Challa white is completely racist and unacceptable.

Wakanda wasn't colonized by European men.

Wakanda, even as a fictional African country, is self-sustainable with the Vibranium in the mountain.

It's just as wrong to make white comic book characters black as it is to make black characters white.

The protector Black Panther and King of Wakanda has always been an African man of royal descent of the five tribes.

Black Panther has been around since the 60s and was created around the height of the Civil Rights movement.

By drawing T'Challa as white, Evulchibi has exposed themselves as an incredibly racist artist.

Block this person on here and don't give them attention to their post.
