Chapter 6
If there was one thing Maxwell learned from his many dreams, it was that one never wastes time.
Once the words, kiss me, registered, he surged forward and did as she requested. He grasped her hips, pulling her as close to his body as he could. He never knew when Bertrand or his alarm or some other random noise would yank him from these perfect moments spent in a dream world. He only knew he needed to horde every single second with the woman who ruled his mind.
And then...
He realized he wasn't dreaming after all.
Breaking away took every single bit of willpower that he lacked when it came to Olivia.
"What?" She asked when he merely stared at her.
"I-" he swallowed, trying to wrap his mind around the fact that she was really in his bed and was wanting him to kiss her. "You..."
He'd never questioned things before in his life, so why start now?
"Max-" Olivia sank against him when he captured her lips in another long deep kiss.
Her own mind seized with victory. The feel of his arms around her already sent delicious desire pulsating throughout her body. His lips, how had they gained such power to make her almost senseless? Why did they feel like they were made specifically for her?
A few stray thoughts that her experiment was going better than planned drifted through her mind. She had been certain that Maxwell would have questioned her to the point of her walking away in frustration. She'd been prepared to shut him up before he could draw her into a needless discussion. Kissing seemed the best way to curb his talkative self and she decided early on that showing him a little skin would be another effective method if the kiss didn't work.
She knew she'd shocked him by being in his room and even took a bit of evil glee in it. His reaction to thinking it was all a dream was actually, as much as it galled her, quite endearing.
Plus, it didn't hurt that he immediately did exactly as she said. It was a sign that a future together could be possible, especially if he never questioned her on it.
But...
Why wasn't he questioning her? Was he not the least bit curious over her decision to not only spend the majority of the evening waiting for him in his room nor the fact that she insisted he kiss her? Did he take it for granted that someone like her would want someone like him?
Olivia broke away from his mind numbing kiss to glare at him.
Maxwell began to silently curse himself.
How have I already screwed up a kiss?
The look on her face made him feel like he was thirteen years old again. That spin the bottle game had been his first chance to kiss Olivia and he'd ended up giving his first kiss to a disappointed Kiara. That particular event led him to avoid ever taking part in that party game again.
Bracing himself for a critique on his lip maneuvers, he asked what was wrong.
"Aren't you curious as to why I'm here?" She asked.
"Yeah." His eyes searched hers. "I am."
She sat up, still straddling his waist. "And?"
"You told me to kiss you." He shrugged. "I'm not going to waste time asking questions when I can kiss you instead."
Granted that was what Olivia wanted, yet she also knew they needed to discuss what all this meant before things got a little too carried away.
Maxwell stared up at her, waiting to see what she wanted of him.
"We need to talk about boundaries." She began.
"Boundaries?" He mumbled, utterly confused.
"Yes." She snapped. "We can't just jump on each other whenever we want."
His eyes widened over her use of the word, jump.
She huffed in irritation. "This must be planned out until we figure out what this is."
"Okay." He slowly nodded. "Do you know what this is?"
"Of course I do." She folded her arms. "It's a test."
"For what?" He prodded.
"For whether or not we can be together." Olivia huffed.
Honestly, could she be with someone so clueless?
Maxwell shot up so quickly, she had to grasp his shoulders to keep from slipping off his lap. His nose bumped into hers causing her to look directly into those incredible blue eyes of his.
"Together, together?" He asked. "Like what I've been wanting?"
She nodded. "Why else would I be here?"
"Hold up!" He gripped her waist. "You came here tonight, waited, to see if we can be a couple?"
"Yes." She hissed, eyes narrowing upon his. "I wouldn't wait on you for anything pointless."
It didn't matter that she looked like she could easily strangle him without feeling a shred of guilt. Maxwell was on cloud nine, scratch that, cloud nine million nine hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine, in hearing her say the very words he'd longed for. He could hardly believe that his rotten luck in life had somehow allowed this miracle of all miracles to come into existence.
"Are you going to listen?" Olivia demanded when he did nothing but stare at her in awe.
"Yes!" He relaxed back against the headboard. "I'll do whatever you want."
That cooled her temper to hear his ready agreement.
"Now then," she cleared her throat, "until Liam officially picks Riley, we can't be seen openly together."
Maxwell nodded. "Okay."
"Once that's taken care of, we meet when and where I decide." She declared. "Got it?"
"Got it." His smile grew.
"Why are you smiling over that?" She snapped.
"Because I'm happy." He admitted. "We get to be together!"
"When I say so." She reminded him.
"Right." He couldn't stop smiling. "When you say so."
She eyed him.
"Can I still ask you out?" He asked. "It will still be up to you, but I would like the chance to let you know how much I want to be with you."
Having her ego stroked in such a manner brought a slight smile to Olivia's lips.
"You may." She deemed with a regal tilt of her head.
His dimples deepened with his smile.
"Anything else you want to ask?"
Maxwell shook his head.
"Really?" Olivia wondered how the most persistently curious person on Earth could be silent during something like this.
"I just want to be with you." Maxwell admitted. "I don't care how or in what way."
He reached up to cup her cheek. His thumb brushed against her porcelain skin while he marveled at being able to feel any part of her.
"I'll do whatever I have to, to be with you." He vowed.
"So you don't mind being told what to do?" She asked, still not quite trusting him.
"Nope." His grin caught her off guard. "I think it's kinda hot."
"Hot?!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah." His hand dropped from her cheek. "In most of my dreams you tell me what to do and it's a definite turn on."
Olivia blinked at him.
"You are so sexy telling me how you want it." He admitted with an unrepentant grin.
She didn't know how to respond to that.
If he found her bossing him around sexy, then a life together would make her the sexiest woman to ever exist.
Olivia cleared her throat. "Then, I think you should kiss me again."
She expected him to slam his mouth on hers in wild excitement. Her breath caught when he instead took his time.
His hooded blue eyes began to trace her features while his hands moved along her curves. With parted lips, he inched forward to press a lingering kiss to her neck.
The gentle brush of his lips against her skin sent goose bumps everywhere.
He dotted a few more kisses before sucking against her pulse point.
She didn't know which she liked more, that kiss or his hands touching her. She only knew she didn't want it to stop.
A moan she'd never made before in her life slipped out.
He jerked away from her.
"Did I hurt you?!" He cried out.
"Hurt me?" She repeated. "What are you talking about?'
"Your daggers?" He pointed towards her torso. "It hit me that I might be digging them into your skin."
Her eyes widened. "You know about my hidden daggers?"
"Well, yeah."
Still in shock that he knew something that she kept secret from even Liam, she gestured towards his desk.
"I removed them when I first came in."
Maxwell stilled. He looked over at his desk, all the way across his room.
"You left them over there?" He asked.
"Yes, what of it?" Olivia prodded.
He wondered if she knew what she'd done. Not only was she here, proving she felt something for him, but she also just revealed that she trusted him. Olivia leaving her daggers out of reach spoke volumes.
"Maxwell?" She moved back into his line of sight.
He wondered if he should tell her what she'd done. He thought it might embarrass her, which was not at all what he wanted to happen tonight. Deciding to keep that reveal to himself, he refocused on her.
She really is crazy about me.
In one swift move, he reversed their positions.
Olivia whimpered in shock to find herself under him. Normally, she would fight against having some man having the upper hand, even in bed, over her. She'd never liked being pinned down. She made certain to always be on top in both sparring and bedroom activities.
Something about having Maxwell in the dominant position made her heart race. The feel of his body pressing her into the mattress made her want more. She might even like him to hold her wrists above her head while he--
His lips captured hers in a ravenous kiss. Olivia slipped one hand behind his head while the other drifted down his back. The way his muscles tensed at her touch made her long to feel even more of him.
"Take your shirt off." She demanded.
He immediately whipped it over his head and tossed it across the room.
The smile upon her face caused his heart to slam into his chest.
Her greedy hands traced over his arms and pecs before dipping down to his abs.
"Is that a bruise?"
Maxwell stilled. In the dim lamplight, his tattoo he'd kept hidden for years was now on full display.
"It's not a bruise."
He knew his brother would kill him once he found out that a member of the Court had seen the, as Bertrand put it, the most shameful desecration one could do upon one's body.
"It's a tattoo!" Olivia exclaimed after closer inspection.
"Yep." Maxwell muttered, closing his eyes against the teasing that was about to ensue.
"It's for your mother, isn't it?" She asked softly.
His eyes popped open, searching hers for understanding.
"How'd you know?"
Olivia traced the baby hippo with her fingers. "I remember her nickname for you."
Maxwell stilled her fingers with his hand, pressing her palm flat against the tattoo.
She looked up and saw the vulnerable emotion flooding his features. She searched for something to say and came up empty. Not knowing why she felt the need to hurry and wipe such a mixture of sadness and worry from his face, she tugged him back down for a tender kiss.
It was the first time in her life she'd ever wanted to comfort someone.
Maxwell sank into her embrace.
She knows me, he thought. She knows me better than any woman, anyone, I've ever known.
Unable to put into words what her remembering that precious part of his past meant to him, he deepened the kiss.
Their movements became frantic once more as they fought to get the other out of the remainder of their clothes.
"Wait!" Olivia cried out when her top got stuck. "It has a zipper on the--"
The two froze when they heard her phone ring.
Olivia groaned while yanking her top back into place. Leaning over, she swiped it up to answer.
Maxwell tried to get his breathing under control. He could tell by the look on her face that he wasn't going to like what this call was about.
"Right." Olivia grumbled. "I'll be right down."
She huffed in frustration while pushing Maxwell off of her.
"What was that?" He asked.
"That," she got up to search for her shoes, "was my driver telling me it's time to leave for the airport."
"What?!" He cried out, flopping back against the pillows. "Why are you leaving so soon?"
"Because I have meetings and a dress fitting in the Capital." She told him while placing her daggers in their many holsters.
Olivia glared at him when he said he wished she didn't have to go. "You shouldn't have taken forever to come to your bedroom?!"
"I didn't know you were waiting on me!" He pointed out. "If I'd known you were, I'd have been here as soon as everyone sat down for dinner."
Her irritation dimmed some at that.
"Next time, go to your room." She told him.
"I'll never stay out late again." He vowed.
After she smoothed her skirt back into place, she hesitated at his door. She wanted him to kiss her goodbye but didn't want him to know she did. It seemed silly after what they'd done in his bed to want something sentimental like a farewell kiss.
"I suppose I'll see you in a couple of days." She muttered.
Maxwell sprang up off the bed and took her back into his arms. He pressed a tender kiss on her lips.
"Any chance we can find some time alone during the Coronation Ball?" He asked.
"Perhaps." She smiled at him. "It will have to be somewhere secret."
"How about the hedge maze?" Maxwell offered. "Nobody is going to take a chance on missing out on whoever Liam favors with dances and all before the big announcement."
Olivia considered that and knew it to be true. No one would dare venture away from the ballroom until they knew who would be the new queen.
"Hedge maze it is." She decided. "I'll let you know what time to meet me out there."
Reluctantly easing out of his arms, she quickly darted out of his room.
Closing the door behind her, Maxwell leaned his forehead against the wooden barrier.
"I can't wait for the ball." He said with a grin.

The night was still on the hilltop overlooking the rolling vineyards of the Beaumont estate in the heart of Ramsford near the eastern border of the small Mediterranean county of Cordonia.
Anton Severus stood in the warm night air directing troop movements. The soldiers under his command were a mix of those loyal to Sons of the Earth and those that sold their guns, and their loyalty, to the highest bidder. Mercenaries. Not the most savory thing, but a necessary evil. The ends would justify the means. And he had those ends in sight.
“You have the gas?” He asked his second in command.
Claudius Pinkernickle, his right-hand man, nodded, “Yes, sir.”
“Good, good. Deploy it through the air vents. Everyone who’s anyone in Cordonian society is in there tonight. It’s imperative we take out not only the members of the royal family but any Rys loyalists as well.”
It was the night of the annual Beaumont Bash and Anton was ready to take his place as the rightful ruler of Cordonia….by any means necessary.
“What does the gas do, exactly?” Claudius inquired.
“Well, it’s never been tested before,” Anton explained, “Which is why we got such a good deal on it! But it’s a nerve agent, it should shut down the central nervous system…or did he say the limbic system? At any rate, people should die, or at least become incapacitated and then we can swoop in and do clean up.”
“All our troops have been supplied with gas masks,” Claudius told him, “So we’ll deploy the gas, wait about twenty to thirty minutes then breach.”
“Sounds good. Tonight will go down in the history books, Claude and you were here to see it, to participate in it! Something to tell your children and grandchildren about!” Anton puffed his chest out, pride coloring his words.
“Yeah, sure, boss,” Claudius hoped his reply was convincing. He was never planning to have children, but more importantly, he had his own personal agenda for being here tonight that had nothing to do with politics. He could give a rat’s ass less who was king. He had a personal matter to attend to that was long overdue and he intended to rectify that tonight.
“Just remember,” Anton reminded him, “The only member of the nobility that makes it out alive is Duchess Olivia Nevrakis. She must not be harmed in any way! She’s the key to this whole thing. Everything hinges on her. Bring her directly to me.”
Anton wondered if Olivia remembered him. It had been many years since their last encounter. It would certainly make things easier if she cooperated.
“I’ll lead the advanced team myself,” Claudius assured him, “We’ll go in ten minutes after deployment and bring the duchess out.” Hopefully by subterfuge, but he wasn’t above physical coercion.
Anton checked his watch. “T-minus fifteen minutes to deployment.”
Claudius checked in with his team via earpiece, “All troops are in position.”
“Excellent!” Anton rubbed his hands together, exactly like a villain in a melodrama, “Almost there. Nothing can stop me now!”
Meanwhile, down the hill and inside the sprawling Beaumont estate, the party was in full swing.
“I’m just saying,” mumbled a drunk Penelope, “how do we know we’re not lesbians if we don’t try?”
“You make a valid point,” her companion replied, “let me take that bottle of champagne, I think you’ve had enough.”
The crown prince of Cordonia stood near the chocolate fountain nervously adjusting his tie. The object of his affection was within his sight yet he was still hesitant to make his move. He wasn’t sure why he was so nervous, other than a crippling fear of rejection. Which seemed preposterous given his position in the social order. But then, he had gone and fallen for someone who didn’t care about any of that.
A horse trotted through the grand ballroom and peacocks ran freely up and down the grand staircase.
Bertrand Beaumont smiled broadly at the sight. It was going to be a night to remember. All of Cordonia would be talking about for months to come, he was sure of it. The reputation of House Beaumont was safe, despite the disastrous news story Ana De Luca had published last month. He shook his head sourly at the memory. None of it had been true.
He blamed Maxwell.
Upstairs, Olivia laughed as she lifted a crystal champagne flute to her lips.
“Liv!” A familiar voice interrupted her conversation, “What are you doing up here? And with him?”
She opened her mouth to respond then closed it as several soft thumps sounded above their heads. As if several people had just landed on the roof. Which was utterly absurd. Wasn’t it?
She turned back to her companion, “Please tell me security hasn’t been skimped on for this event.”
“What do you mean?”
“What do you mean what do I mean? Did you not hear that noise? And what….what’s that smell?”
They all three looked up as a low hissing sound drew their attention to the air vents, tendrils of smoke curling out of them and spreading through the room.
“What the hell?”
The hissing sound grew louder, along with a metallic groaning before all the air vents in the estate blew outward and the smoke rolled heavily through the rooms and hallways.
People ran screaming and gasping for air, looking for exits but the smoke obscured their visibility and the inebriated state of many of the guests served to further turn them around and send them wandering in the wrong direction.
Olivia was halfway down the grand staircase, breathing into her skirt to filter the air when the smoke parted and three men with gas masks approached her.
“It’s her!”
“We need you to come with us.”
“We’re here to help.”
Olivia’s eyes grew big as she saw a gloved hand reaching out toward her at the same time she heard footsteps pounding down the stairs behind her.
Her head swiveled back and forth taking in the scene in front of her and the one behind her.
A slow smile spread across her face as a course of action presented itself to her.

Category 1: Something Wicked Truly evil pieces of shit I wouldn't throw my cup of water on if they were burning.
Tumblr media
Cat 1: Duke Richards D&D is the epitome of evil. Now, yes, the crimes of some others here are even more heinous, but I will hate Duke Richards with all my heart forever.
Marcus Blackstock WTD I mean, he was feeding the people he was supposed to lead to zombies. If not for luck, our MC and Troy would have been among them. Fuck you Blackstock. He was the perfect example of humans were always worse than any monsters.
Eleanor Blake / Tony Kowalski CoP If you're cutting the hearts out of people you're basically going to hell. I think Eleanor is slightly more evil, because I really think Tony was ill and manipulated, but sorry, not getting a break. Glad they died.
Principal Jennings MTFL - This man was the evil father no one wants. At first he just seemed like your typical arrogant military asshole, but there was so much more. My purpose in the story became to destroy him.
Sen. Farrugia OH2 - Please. I didn't like Landry, but really, he was an annoying weasel. I've never understood the level of hatred the fandom had for him (hatred, yes. level, no.). But Farrugia - there needs to be so much more hate for this man. He is the epitome of where the REAL danger lies... unscrupulous narcissistic POS with power.
Category 2: Guilty Pleasures
More antagonist than villains (well except for one...) and totally VILF (Villains I'd Like to F*ck)
Tumblr media
My Baby Boy Dr. Tobias Carrick OH - OK by Book 3 we learned he's really not a bad guy, but I didn't know what to make of him in Book 2. He was definitely shady, but Jesus Christ look at him. And the charm? Sorry, he could get it even if he never reformed. Don't worry boo, I've got the getaway car waiting for you. 💋💋💋
Olivia Nevrakis TRR - OK- disclaimer. I have a weakness for redheads. By Book 2 I considered Olivia a deranged friend that was a little crazy, but you know what they say about crazy people? GREAT IN BED! My girl should have been an LI.
Becca Davenport TFS - Oh, she was a horrible, terrible person in the beginning. I could not stand her. But then we saw her more human side, and well, she's hot. Beyond that, I really didn't care for Chris, and the idea of Chris's two exes hooking up - well, sign me up.
Marc Anthony ACOR - Which one of these kids doesn't belong here? It is him. He WAS a villain. He was not an antagonist. But 🥵🥵🥵and the sex scenes were 🥵🥵🥵. I mean, I didn't have MC PICK him at the end, but I certainly let my girl ride him into the sunset here and there. OK - off to confession. (Not really, I'm agnostic...)

“How very touching Drake. Didn’t know you had it in you.”
“What do you want Liam?” Riley snapped at him.
“Oh don’t stop on my account. Go on Drake... do carry on. Do you want to go on a date with him Riley?”
“What I do with my life is none of your business! Drake, I’d love to go on a date with you.” Placing her hand into his, she looked up at him and smiled. “I better head back, I’m due at work soon.”
“Yes you’re due to degrade yourself yet again. What does a vet see in a stripper, I’ll never know.” He’s a vet?
“What does a rich man see in a ‘stripper’- I don’t dance or strip Liam, I work in the bar- so get your facts right.”
“Because I know what you are capable of. You always wanted to be a teacher, but you was a brilliant PA.”
“Life doesn’t always go to plan. You of all people should know that! Drake text me to arrange a date. I’m looking forward to it.” Kissing him on the cheek, she scowled at Liam as she walked away.
“It won’t last Drake. She will realise that you aren’t the one.”
“Oh Liam. Get over yourself. She doesn’t love you anymore.”
“But you believe that she will fall in love with you?”
“Maybe. Maybe not. At least I got her pregnant, something you will never do. See ya around BUDDY.” Emphasising the word buddy, he knew what he said was out of line - but enjoyed witnessing Liam’s face drop. Liam grit his teeth, pulling out his phone his dialled a number- hoping that google provided him with the correct number.
“Hello. Wildcats. Rita speaking.”
“Hi Rita. My name is Liam Rhys. I’m the one that caused trouble that night of my bachelor party.”
“Oh....Hello Mr Rhys. How may I help you?”
“Is it true what I’ve heard about the services you offer behind closed doors?”
“Yes it is. Why?”
“I will pay your club, $500k for me to use those services.”
“Of course Sir. I’ll organise it with my main girl Mercedes.”
“I am paying that much because I want a particular girl. Riley Brooks. I want her to have half the money or I’ll refuse to pay.”
“Sir, she doesn’t dance. She’s not comfortable doing what the other girls do, she’s our barmaid and waitress.”
“Do you want the money or not?” Rita remained silent for a bit, not knowing how to react to Liam’s now agressive tone of voice.
“I’ll organise it to be with Riley Sir. You have my word. When do you want to come?”
“Tonight.”
“Great. See you then Mr Rhys.”
Liam hung up smirking. This will put you off her Drake.
*****
Riley was saying her goodbyes to everyone- hugging savannah she faked a smile, not wanting to show everyone how she truly felt. Regret. Jealousy. Upset.
“Thank you for inviting me, but I have to go to work. I hope you have a good ending to your baby shower. When he’s born, I’ll come and see him- I’ll spoil him rotten.”
“Thanks Riley. If you ever need to talk just come over.” Riley knew what Savannah was referring to- before her eyes began to form tears, she quickly thought about how rubbish Bertrand was as a babysitter.
“I’ll come and babysit, Show Bertrand how to really babysit.”
“You’ll have to tell me the stories one day.” Savannah giggled to herself.
“It wasn’t my fault that you and Maxwell were nightmares to look after. Look after yourself Riley.” As she turned to leave, Drake arrived and pulled her to the side, urgency kissing her.
“What was that for?”
“A goodbye kiss. So now you know my secret about being a vet, you must know that I like animals. Rather than go on a date, how about you come to Texas for a long weekend with me- to my family ranch?”
“Really? You want to take me to your home?”
“Yes, really. It’ll get us away from all these morons. Arrange a weekend with your boss and we will go.”
“Okay. I’ll let you know when I get to work. I’m looking forward to it.”
“Good. I’ll ring you later.” Drake couldn’t wipe the smile off his face, as he watched her walk away.
*****
Riley nervously walked into the strip club, running up to her room- she quickly got a shower and dressed in her uniform. Hesitantly walking downstairs to the office, she knocked on the door. Opening it, Rita was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
“Wow Rita. Have you robbed a bank? Where’d you get all this money from?”
“A punter dropped it off before. He’s coming back later. Do you need me babe?”
“I was wondering if I could have next weekend off? Friday to Monday, I’ll be back to work Tuesday night. I know it’s only a weeks notice but I’d really appreciate it.”
“Sure baby. Have as much time off that you need.” Okay that was easy.
“Thank you so much.”
“No problem. Here have a drink. I’ve got a good feeling about tonight.” Rita smiled, she had placed drugs in the drink. When Liam dropped the money off he explained it would be hard to convince Riley and suggested this. Rita cared for her girls, but she cared more about money and the clubs reputation. Riley accepted the drink, and left the office.
Hey, Drake. She said I could have as much time off as I needed. Texas here we come 😊🙌🏼x
Hey! That’s great! I’ll let my mom know. You’ll love it x
I’m looking forward to it. I’ve never been to Texas before. Do Texan cowboys really exist? X
I can be a cowboy for you? 😉 x
Are you flirting with me Walker? X
Maybe? Once we are there I’ll take you on a romantic date. Have a good shift. I’ll ring you later x
I’ll try. Talk later cowboy 🤠😉😘x
*****
Riley couldn’t concentrate at work, the usual punters were in- drooling over the girls. Watching the clock, she knew she had four hours left. Now knowing the days leading up to Texas would drag. She was unsure about what her relationship was with Drake. Could they get over the termination and be a sincere couple? She hoped so. Rita had kept providing her with drinks throughout the night, she became more and more drunk quickly.
Leaving the bar unattended, she needed to find Rita to ask for cover as she was feeling too ill to work- falling over, some strong arms picked her up and held her.
“Riley are you okay?”
“Li-Liam? Wha- what are you .... doing here?” She slurred, feeling worse now than she was thirty seconds prior.
“I thought I’d come and apologise for my behaviour before.”
“It’s fine.. just accept that myself and Drake could be more than friends. Please Li.” Liam noticed Rita and nodded at her, waving at him he carried Riley over to the secluded back room.
“Riley baby I’m so sorry I’ve done this to you- but he offered us a lot of money, you are keeping half of it.”
“Why are we in this room? I belong behind the fucking goddamn bar Rita!” Still feeling dizzy, Rita passed her some water encouraging her to drink it
“Not tonight baby. This is good for us all. You’ll thank me. He’s your ex so it should be easy. Just do the deed, do what he wants you to do. Remember you owe me, I have looked after you all these months.”
“NO!”
“Riley! Do as I say! Or you’ll have no roof over your head and no job!”
“Riley, this is the closure that I need. One last time with you. Please. And you’ll walk away with thousands of bucks.”
“I don’t want you. I don’t want your money. I’m not a prostitute Liam. All those years ago, all I wanted was for you to love me. Not hurt me. Rita can you leave us alone to talk please.”
“Sure. I’m so sorry Riley. But we need this money. Please don’t let me down.” Riley grimaced at her boss, if she threw her out and sacked her she had options. Moving back in with Maxwell. Sharing with Drake.
“Riley, I’ve never stopped loving you. I regret everything that I’ve done. If you want to be with Drake can’t I just have this last time with you?”
“No liam how many times? No! Do you know how many times I wanted to forgive you? To forget what happened? I slept with Leo for god sake just to have that slight bit of fun- to forget about you for a slight bit of time. Then I come back and find out you have a daughter. I am willing to be friends with you. But you keep pushing me further away.”
“Sleep with me. One last time. Then I will leave you alone. Or a drink? We can talk about the old days to get closure.”
“I’ll agree to the drink, then you get the hell out of here and never come back!”
“Deal.” Liam poured the drink, before adding the secret ingredient. I love you Riley, and I’m going to make you mine again.
“So... why did you never go back to school? Train as a teacher. I could see by drakes expression that you never told him about your dreams.”
“I’m too old now Liam. I’m getting by in life. That’s all that matters.”
“You’re never too old to learn. You’d make a fantastic teacher Riley. You should look into it.”
“Even if I wanted to I couldn’t afford it, I used my grans inheritance to pay off debts. My life has just been one rollercoaster since you did what you did.”
“I could have paid your debts off. You should have come back to me. I’ll pay for you to go back to school.”
“Thank you but no thanks.” Riley decided to drink from bottle in front of them, needing it before hearing anymore of Liam’s bullshit fake personality. Whilst tying her hair back, Liam added more of the drug into the bottle without her noticing. They remained in silence, Liam getting closer to her every second that went by. He noticed her become less defensive and fall into his arms.
“What .... does she have.... that I didn’t?”
“Who?”
“Mad- Madeleine.”
“Nothing Riley. You are worth so much more than she is. I was an idiot, I was thinking with my dick rather than my head and heart. We are having a charity event for the company in a couple of days. I’d like you to come, you did a lot for the company. I won’t tell Drake that you are attending.”
“Sure. Whatever. Is she better.... at sex than I am? Is she... better at oral? I...I can’t ... get my head... around why I ..lost you...”
“No. She was easy. I fucked her. With you I made love. I want you back Riley.”
“Li... no... I love Drake... Drake.. he was the father of our child.... I love him... not you...”
“Riley, you’re not going to remember this. But I have had it recording since we walked into this room just in case you don’t believe me.”
*****
Riley woke up the morning after, not knowing where she was. Her head was spinning, her mouth was dry. Scrutinising the room for clues, she still couldn’t distinguish where she was. Her vision was blurred, seeing her clothes on the floor she quickly got dressed. Just in time before someone walked through the door.
“Morning Belle.” Fuck!
“You look poorly. Have you got some plasters in your bag your arms hurt. I can put it on for you this time.” Riley was shaking uncontrollably, wondering how she ended up in Liam’s bed. “Belle? Do you want me to get daddy? He said you had a grown ups sleepover.”
“Alice, do you know where my phone is?”
“It’s on the table, daddy’s been looking after it.” Storming out of the room, Liam smirked at her- holding her phone out to her. Panicking that he had been checking through her phone she was grateful that she deleted previous texts from Drake.
Hey, I tried to ring but you’re obviously busy at work. I’ll talk tomorrow x
Yes it’s really busy. Sorry talk tomorrow. X
“What the fuck Liam? You text Drake?”
“Alice is here. Don’t swear. I could have told him what happened between us. But I didn’t- so you could say thank you.”
“What happened? How did I end up here?”
“Alice, go and get dressed please.”
“Yes daddy. Bye belle.”
“We talked about the past. I offered to pay your debts off. Feeling sentimental, we had both drank a lot. I asked you to come back here and you agreed. We slept together Ri. I had my closure. I have a video of us, if you want to see it.”
“You made a fucking porno??? Are you fucking insane???? Why won’t you leave me the fuck alone? I don’t even remember it!”
“I drugged you as did Rita. I needed to feel you one last time.” Riley didn’t give a shit if Alice was lingering in the shadows-
“How dare you drug me! Show me the video now!” You son of a bitch! I’m sending this to myself, then to the police.
Liam ripped Riley’s top off, after they shared a passionate forced kiss- he tossed it on to the floor before pulling her on to him. Her body was swaying, she was still slurring her words- but at this moment in time he didn’t care. Seeing her perky breasts in front of him it was tempting him more than ever even though he felt slightly guilty about drugging her to get what he wanted. “Li, I don’t... want... this.. I need... my bed... I love Drake.” When will she shut up about Drake, he thought angrily. Pressing his lips firmly against hers, the tip of his tongue reached out- sliding across her lips. “Drake...”
“I’m not fucking Drake, Riley. It’s Liam!”
“I wa-want Drake... I’m not well...” Liam needed to ignore the fact that she wasn’t in love with him anymore- rather than kiss her he devoured her. Forcing her to lay down on the chaise longue, he was now directly between her thighs grinding his erection against her. Liam moved his lips towards her neck; kissing, biting and sucking the skin. Riley tried to push him away- but was lacking energy, barely able to keep her eyes open. “I love you Ri. I always will do. I can’t let you go.”
“Please.... please Liam.”
“Please what? I’m hard for you Riley, I want you. Do you want me?”
“Please... please don’t...”
“You’ll enjoy it Ri, like the old days when I made you moan my name all night long.”
Moving her skirt up, his hands explored finally reaching the lacy thong. Pushing it to the side, his fingers rubbed her clit hard in circles. Sliding his fingers into her core, he pumped her deep- feeling her cum made him smirk. “That’s it baby, carry on and cum for me again.” Riley had passed out, taking the opportunity fumbled with his belt, removing his trousers and boxers just enough to free his immense hard on. Running his tip between her folds, he forced his penis inside of her- tilting her pelvis up to give him a better angle. Riley was in and out of consciousness, “are you enjoying it baby?” He asked as he pounded her. “Drake?”
“It’s me Liam, Drake isn’t here. It’s just you and I.”
“Get... get off me Liam.”
“Moan for me baby. You’re so wet.” Riley tried to push him away- but he was too forceful. Continuing to roll his hips, he knew he was due to cum- slowing down his movements, he growled as he exploded inside her. Resting his forehead on hers, he kissed her on hers whilst slowing down his breathing.
“Yes, so you raped me. How the fuck did we end up here?”
“I made love to you Riley. You are my true love. I carried you out to my limo. It brought us here. We had sex again. Then I cuddled you all night.” Riley’s skin crawled, she felt dirty and ashamed that she could trust people and allow this to happen to her.
“You fucking raped me you moron!”
“What’s rape daddy?” Riley turned around to Alice, bending down she looked in to the little girl’s eyes.
“Alice, I didn’t mean to use that word. Daddy and me were old friends. That word means we aren’t friends anymore. This ‘sleepover’ was a goodbye. Look after yourself little princess.”
“Okay. Bye belle. Daddy, my nanny is here. I’ll see you later.”
“Love you Princess.” Liam bent down and kissed his daughter goodbye. Riley waiting to hear the door close.
“Stay the fuck away from me Liam! Never touch me ever again.”
“You are still coming to the charity event aren’t you?”
“No I’m fucking not! Goodbye!”
“If you don’t come, I’ll tell Drake.”
“You wouldn’t dare tell him that you raped me.”
“No I’ll tell him that the slut of a girl he is in love with, threw herself at me. I’ll see you at the event.” The jokes on you Liam, I have the video on my phone- for evidence. Arsehole.
“Go fuck yourself!” Storming out the door, she didn’t know where to go. Her boss someone she thought she could trust gave more of a shit about money. Deciding to go to the strip club, she grabbed essential items- and booked herself in at a hotel.
*****
A couple of days later it was the charity event, Riley had spoken to Drake over text- but kept texts simple. She was still furious with Liam. Considering going to the police, she knew even with the video evidence that he would crawl out of it somehow- most likely using his money to bail him out.
Leo picked Riley up with Olivia. Feeling like a gooseberry, she did however feel grateful for them escorting her to the charity event.
“You look amazing Ri. Are you sure you want to go? I can use some lame excuse.” Riley smiled at Leo, taking a deep breath- she nodded her head.
Arriving at the venue, Liam’s eyes widened seeing the trio make their entrance- his gaze mainly focusing on Riley.
“Riley you look beautiful as always. I’ll get you a drink- follow me.” Riley hesitated, Leo noticed her reaction. Even though he was now in a relationship with Olivia, he still deeply cared for Riley and always would do- he would even defend her over his own flesh and blood.
“Oh little brother, you can buy us a drink too if you are feeling generous.”
“I’d appreciate a word alone with Riley if you don’t mind.”
“It’s fine Leo. Enjoy your night with Olivia.”
“If he hurts you or anything, ring me.” Leo whispered, knowing how his brothers personality had changed since Riley had returned to New York. Knowing that Drake hadn’t been invited to the event made her feel like a traitor. Hoping that Liam would just accept friendship and her support for his company was going to be hard to convince him.
“I’m glad you decided to come.” Accepting the drink off him, he noticed her hesitantly drink it.
“Well you did bribe me! I’m not doing this for you. I worked for this company- no matter what happened between us in the past I will support the company.”
“In the past? What about the other night?”
“You took advantage of me. Seeing my bosses eyes light up wafting your wallet around- of course she would agree to your arrangement. I don’t know who you are anymore Liam, money and power has changed you.”
“I’m still me.”
“No you’re not. If you ever loved me, you’d let me go. Let me live my life. Yet you believe you know what’s best for me.”
“Drake isn’t the one for you. You didn’t even know what he did for a living until the baby shower. I can look after you, Alice adores you- all she talks about is you. We can be that family that you always wanted. You can work for me, have your old job back. Please Ri.”
“No. I’m content at the strip club, when arseholes like you don’t come in. I’m going to tell Drake what happened that night, if he doesn’t want anything to do with me - fair enough. If he does, then I am going to go on a date with him as planned. I had a family and I let my child down. Do not try and tell me what I want Liam or what is best for me.”
“We had sex!”
“It meant nothing to me Liam. I was forced into it by you and Rita. Excuse me, I’m going to find Maxwell. Please do not follow me.” Grabbing her wrist, she slapped him across the face. Immediately letting go of her, the sting still lingered. “I mean it liam, stay away from me or I’ll advertise to the whole company what you did to me. I believe I am being extremely stupid even stringing a sentence to you. Even considering to be nice to you.”
“I didn’t rape you Riley.”
“Of course you didn’t! You are fucking stupid, delusional. Get out of my face Liam. Even when I was half a fucking sleep, who’s name did I keep saying on that porno you created? Drake! Not you! Doesn’t that tell you something?”
“Is everything okay here?” Leo watched the pair since she they were on their own, keeping an eagle eye on every movement- it was now time to intervene as Riley slapped Liam across the face.
“Everything is fine. I was just saying goodbye to your brother for good. He thinks it’s acceptable to drug and rape women who he apparently loves.”
“I didn’t rape you! How many times?”
“Oh Leo, he even recorded it.”
“She was drunk, she was begging for it.”
“I was begging for you to stop. I wanted Drake. Not you. I’m leaving.” Leo grit his teeth, wanting to beat the shit out of his brother. He knew Riley wouldn’t lie about something like this.
“Mr Rhys? May I have a word?” Liam nodded, excusing himself from Leo- both brothers pulled out their phone, each sending a text to Drake.
Drake I’m really sorry, but myself and Riley slept together the other night. I’m so sorry for hurting you like this. But I think she wants to give it another go.
Drake you need to ring me ASAP! It’s about Riley and Liam.
Leo put the phone away, as he did he had a notification. Assuming it was Drake, it was a video attachment- Leo watched, and began crying.
“What’s up?” Olivia and Maxwell came over to see what the matter was with Leo- not really wanting to show the two of them what Riley had sent, he felt the need to for her sake. To get everyone on her side. Seeing their eyes widen, and their jaws agape, he was glad Riley secretly sent it to herself and forwarded it to him. It was her way in asking for help and support.
“Holy shit! Where is he? I’m going to kill him.”
“Leave my brother to me max! Go to your place, I’ll meet you there. I need to speak to Drake.”
******
Knocking on the door, Riley hoped he was in- she was going to tell him the truth, hoping he would listen to her. If she had lost him for good, there was no point in staying in New York.
“Thank god you’re in, we need to talk.”
“Riley, I’m actually busy.” He responded in a melancholy tone of voice. Receiving the text off Liam, broke his heart. Riley walked into the apartment ignoring his bullshit excuse.
“You’ve packed early. We’re not going to Texas until Friday.”
“You’re not going to Texas. I’m going there now.”
“What?”
“You heard me Riley. Live your life with Liam, I know. He text me and told me. I hope you’re both very happy together.”
“What did he text you?” Showing her the text, her nostrils flared.
“Drake he’s lying. It’s not that. I want to be with you. He means nothing to me. I was looking forward to spending time with you.”
“Maybe you should have thought about that before Riley. I’m not angry, I’m hurt that I found out from him. I thought we had something, we was going to put things behind us- move on. You both have a lot more history, I’m happy for you.”
“Drake?” Ignoring her, he picked up his bags and left the apartment. Wiping the tears that he had held in - he shook his head. Riley fell to the floor crying uncontrollably, texting Maxwell she hoped he would come back.
*****
Maxwell left the event immediately, as he arrived he saw Drake loading his truck.
“Where are you going?”
“Texas. Why?”
“Have you seen Riley? I need to make sure she’s okay. I fucking hate Liam.”
“Yes, she’s in the apartment. I’ve said goodbye.”
“How can you leave after what happened?”
“Why not? She’s with Liam now. He told me that.” Showing the text, Maxwell was furious. Asking Leo to quickly forward the video to him, he needed to show Drake that Riley was innocent.
“Just wait, Leo’s sending me something. Don’t go just yet.” Drake rolled his eyes back, the longer he stayed here the more it was hurting. “Here. Sit down. Watch it. It’s not nice. Riley loves you Drake. Don’t leave her.” Drake looked at Maxwell, who put his head down as the video began. Watching the video made him feel sick, regretting believing Liam over Riley- he abandoned the bags and ran back into the apartment.
“Riley?” Seeing her in the kitchen, he ran up to her- holding her tightly. Tilting her chin up, he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. Maxwell walked in, leaning against the doorframe- he smiled softly at the two of them. “I’m so sorry. If I see him, I’m going to kill him with my bare hands. I love you too.”
“How do you know I love you?”
“Leo, sent the video to max who showed me. Stopped me from leaving. Don’t be mad at them.”
“I’m so sorry, I let him do that to me. I don’t remember. Rita drugged me too. He gave her a shit ton of money to do it.” Unable to stop the tears, Maxwell came over to the two of them. Pulling her in for a hug, he was hoping that Leo wasn’t going to do anything stupid.
“Ri, stay here with us. We will both protect you. Leave the strip club, I’ll help you find another job. Please.”
“Max is right, I’ll provide for the two of us.”
“You could provide for the three of us with your wage packet.” Maxwell winked at Drake, hoping she would listen to their advise.
“You better be joking Beaumont, I’ll provide for her not for you too. Riley, we will go to Texas tomorrow. Together. As planned but a few days earlier. I’m self employed, so we can go for as long as you need. Besides Maxwell can spend some alone time with the new lady in his life without me feeling like a gooseberry.”
“Oh just like I felt like a gooseberry when you two fucked for the first time. I’m gonna go to sleep guys, don’t go awol without saying bye. Night besties.” Drake led Riley to his bedroom, throwing her a top to wear- he stripped down into his underwear. Turning around, the top was still where he threw it, Riley was sat up in bed naked- biting her bottom lip. God she looks so sexy when she does that.
“Are we sleeping naked now?” He asked in a seductive tone of voice. Crawling on to the bed and up towards her, he had an immediate erection. For months he was hoping to see her like this again. As he got within reach, Riley pulled him closer- placing her lips onto his chest. Providing light kisses, his hands explored her body. Arching her back, she moaned as he kissed her neck.
“Drake, don’t stop. I’ve missed you. I’m so sorry for everything that has happened.”
“Don’t be sorry, none of it is your fault.”
“The termination was my fault, I called that decision- a decision I’ve regretted ever since. Liam, everything to do with him is my fault.”
“At the time, I disagreed with that decision- I was being selfish. I wish we didn’t do it, but looking back it was for the best. Liam who? We need to erase him out of our life.”
“Can we start over? A fresh new start?”
“Sure, what I said at the baby shower- I meant it. I’ll protect you from now on, I’ll love you. In the future, if we are still as we are- we can try for a baby. It won’t ever replace the first one.” Laying next to her, she snuggled into his embrace.
“You mean if we are officially dating. In a relationship.”
“Yes. Who knows you may not be able to keep your hands off me, you may fall madly in love with me and marry me.”
“‘Maybe.” Riley giggled to herself, loosening his grip on her- they began kissing again as if their lives depended on it.
“Jesus you two! Cover up!” Both jumping, they were grateful that they had only got to first base. Pulling the duvet up to cover their naked bodies, they both turned around to face Leo.
“Leo... who’s blood is that on your hands?”

Clink. Clink. Clink.
Celeste winced at every snap against the bars in her small confines.
“Uh what’s going on Li? Why is she in there?” Drake choked out. Drake's eyes darted around the dimly lit room. He saw Celeste curled up a small cot in a jail cell.
“Shut up Drake.” Olivia snapped.
“Olivia Nevrakis, Drake Walker.. is.. is  that you?” Celeste choked out. Liam pressed his finger to his lips to silence them.
“Hello, my dear Little Sister” Liam hissed. Riley could feel the heat radiating off his naked body as she stood next to him.
“Hello brother, I had a feeling my abduction had something to do with you & her,” Celeste pointed in Riley’s direction with her long bony fingers,” when I was left in this filth of country.” Celeste eyed Riley. Celeste always felt a slight connection towards Riley. Not friendship but kinship. They shared demons, not the same demons different traumas but demons all the same. Celeste craved power. Power at any cost no price wasn’t worth paying. Riley craved blood, the blood of the powerful. Blood of those who had wronged her or Liam.
Liam scoffed at her remark. “Cece, of course you know why you’re here?”
“William, You know I had nothing to do with what happened to Leo. Or you. I had no idea anything was going on. Madeline she.. she.. forced me. And Regina & Adelaide.”
“Ya know Cece, I don’t care what lies you tell yourself to clear your conscience. Better yet you're more like me than I like to admit. We don’t have a conscience, do we dear sister? Madeleine’s blood is on your hands.”
“Go cover your dick and get out William, I’m done with this conversation. And take your whore of a wife with you.” Celeste mumbled as she turned to face the wall away from the group standing on the other side of the bars. Riley could barely contain her excitement the more defiant Celeste became.
Riley walked over to a scanner mounted on the wall. She presses her thumb firmly to the scanner. The wall retracted into a much larger room. The room had a large bed in the center and large ornate thrones for the King and Queen. The thrones were positioned against the wall with a perfect view of the entire room. Surrounding the bed were.. torture devices to say the least. Riley grabbed a catch pole and large hook and joyfully walked towards Liam.
“My King,” Riley knelt to one knee in front of her husband holding the pole and hook above her head, her arms outstretched towards him to take the pole from her hands.
Liam leaned down taking the devices from Riley and caught her pouty lips into a passionate kiss. Riley wrapped her arms around his neck and her hands finding the hook in Liam's hand. Still locked in a heated kiss, Riley and Liam rose to their feet. Riley suddenly broke the kiss and snatched the hook free of Liam's hand. In a flash, she put the shaft of the hook through the iron bars and hooked Celeste around her neck pulling her towards them. Riley pulled the pole as hard as she could causing the cable around Celeste’s neck to tighten. With Liam standing behind her with a wicked grin appearing on his face she pulled Celeste flush against the wrought iron bars. Liam pried the pole from Riley’s fingers and brought his face as close as he could to Celeste.
“Sit.” He commanded Olivia and Drake. Both of their faces twisted in fear and confusion. “I understand you’re both curious as to what’s going on. Right now, you will observe and your questions will be answered. Please be assured neither of you will come to any harm at my or Riley’s hand.” In typical Olivia fashion, laughed at Liam’s remark, “Me, harmed by either of you, I'm interested in what game you two are playing.” “Liam, I don’t know about this. Can I at least have my pants back?’ Drake runs his fingers through his thick dark hair nervously. Liam gave Riley the catch pole that held Madeline flush against the cold bars. He sat down on his throne, Olivia and Drake took their seats on a bench on the far side of the room. “Bring her to me, my Queen.” Riley bowed her head, she opened the door to the cage and jerked the catch pole pulling Celeste hard. Riley pulled her infront of Liam and slammed her to her knees on the floor. “What the fuck, you bitch?” Celeste yelled at Riley. “Let me out of here Liam NOW!” She bellowed. Riley drew her hand back to hit Celeste for her outburst “Riley stop.” Riley froze at Liam’s command.
Riley knew, right now her and her husband were not equals. He needed her to do this for him and she was more than willing. He needed to heal and she would heal his wounds. She would save him from himself. She is saving him from his torture and hate. She will fill the void that they left behind. What’s love without obsession?
“Celeste, the more you fight, the worse it will be. Riley come here my Queen.” Riley dropped the pole and went to sit on Liam’s lap. Liam pulled her into a tender kiss. Liam kissed her down her chin to her neck and up to her ear, “Get the knives.” Riley walked over to a safe built into the wall. She typed in the password and scanned her palm. The safe opened and she pulled three small daggers out. Each dagger was adorned with a large jewel.
“Olivia, Drake here.” Riley handed them each a dagger. “These daggers are of importance. Each one has a specific crown jewel encrusted in the hilt. Olivia, red obviously for the scarlet duchess and House Nevrakis. Diamond for you Drake. You’re a true diamond in the rough and a pillar in our reign.” Riley explained. “Riley, Liam I don’t know what to say.” Olivia thanked them as she looked at the dagger in her hand. A large red ruby was encrusted in the hilt along with Nevrakis Justice engraved along the blade.
Liam stood from his throne. “Let’s get on with it. I’m tired of waiting. Riley Rhys, Olivia Nevrakis, and Drake Walker, today I am judge and jury. You are executioner.”
“Jesus Christ Liam, you are such a drama Queen. You’re not going to kill me and neither will these bastards. It’s treason.” Celeste snapped.
Riley couldn’t control her blood lust any longer. She walked over to Celeste and sliced her across her back with her Rhys sapphire encrusted dagger. Riley froze as she watched the blood pour in small estuaries down Celeste’s back. “Fuck you really are a crazy bitch aren’t you!” Celeste screamed in pain. “Liam stop this NOW. I’m the mother of your first born child!” Liam’s lips curled at the sound of mouth forming the words mother. “YOU ARE NOT A MOTHER OF ANY CHILD OF MINE.” His voice boomed. “Regina forced me and so did father. You know that Liam!” “Shut up. You’re a liar.” “Do you think I WANTED to fuck my half brother over and over?” Liam sat down quietly. “Maybe, maybe not. But your natural response spoke otherwise. Every time I fought, you came harder. And what about Savannah?”
Drake's eyebrow quirked at the sound of his sister's name. “Savannah? Li what?” “Tell him Cece. He knows you raped me. But does he know that you are the reason for his sister's death? And his father’s death? That had Jackson Walker executed for false allegations of rape. That you found out about Constantine, our father, abusing Savannah and impregnating her? Instead you helped Regina take her son away.”
“Son?” Drake screamed. “My father… my sister… because of you..” Drake charged at Celeste. Liam grabbed Drake by the throat. “Stop. I’m not finished.” He calmly spoke. “Get the fuck off me Liam. This bitch… she.. she..” “There’s more,” Liam directed his attention back to Celeste who sat in complete silence. “What about Olivia, Celeste?” Olivia's face drained of all color. She knew exactly what Liam was about to say. She had never spoken a word to anyone before. “No Liam, stop. Don’t…” she whispered. Drake eyes his wife. “What’s he talking about Olivia?”
“Liv I’m so sorry. I tried to stop it.” Celeste sobbed. “No, no, Cece tell the truth.” Riley interrupted. Celeste’s tears stopped abruptly as if she could control her tears. A smile formed across her face. “You’re right Riley. I’m lying. I knew what Constantine was doing. Why do you think I was your best friend, Livvy. He said he would fuck the traitor out of you. I guess he didn’t do a very good job.” She shrugged. “None of you are worthy of the crown. You’re weak. You allowed the torture. You weren’t strong enough to fight back. Liam, your own father destroyed you. I stole your illusion of innocence. No one may have touched you Drake but your poor sister and disgraceful Kings Guard of a father got it enough for you. And Liv, you were the most trusting. You are the most weak. You don’t rule Nevrakis with an iron fist. You all got what you deserved.”
Liam returned to his seat on his replicated throne. “Riley. It’s time. We will let Drake and Olivia work out their aggressions. Drake, Liv… you may do as you please to her. Do not kill her and make sure when you are finished she is fully concious.” Drake felt the anger rising inside of him. He felt as if his skin would burst into flames at any moment. He had never felt hatred in his life until this moment, listening to the evil drip from Celeste’s lips. The hatred engulfed him and he understood. He understood Liam in a way he had never before. Drake darted from his place on the other side of the room. He felt himself losing control until he pounced on Celeste. “You stole my family. You murdered them.” Drake screamed as his arm drew back to hit her hard across her jaw. Celeste screamed as Drake pummeled her. “Enough.” Liam’s deep baritone voice boomed through the room. “Sit Drake.” Drake immediately turned to look for Olivia. Celeste lay balled on the floor. She was badly beaten and bloodied from the brutal beating Drake had given her. “Well deserved. That was for my father and my sister. And for my nephew and my mother.” Drake hissed at Celeste. Olivia kissed Drake deeply. Drake poured his anger and relief into the kiss, emotions he never knew he felt for the loss of his family and finally knowing the real truth.
Celeste lay on the floor breathing heavily. She closed her eyes and laid her head back on the cold tile floor. “Princess CeCe..” a smooth yet sharp voice poured into the completely silent room. She felt her breath hitch in her throat. She felt the cold sharp lightly touch the sensitive skin of her throat. She felt the sharp scratch of the dagger glide down her chest between her breaths and stop abruptly at her pubic bone. She felt the dagger press harder until she felt the pierce of her skin and the blood coming to the surface. Celeste’s eyes opened in a flash. “Nevrakis” she hissed. “No need for words.. shhh.” Olivia pressed her finger to Celeste’s words. Olivia continued running the dagger down her thighs drawing the slightest bit of blood.
Liam, Riley and Drake watched in awe of Olivia. Liam felt his cock twitch at the sensual torture taking place in front of him. He took Riley’s hand and placed it gently on himself. She gripped him hard and slowly pumped his shaft. “Bring her in. She’s going to watch.” Riley nodded her and released her husband from her grip. She disappeared into another room.
Olivia continued to make the small cuts over Celeste’s body. Celeste was crying out for the pain to end. Olivia pressed deeper and deeper into each cut. Liam was getting more and more excited as more and more blood pooled on the floor beneath the vile creature before him. He watched as Olivia’s naked body hovered over Celeste, Olivia’s hands were deep red from the blood of Celeste. Liam snapped his head when he heard the muffled gasp. “Regina,  join us.” Liam grinned a sinister grin at her before he turned his head back to Olivia and Celeste. Riley pushed Regina down against the wall to sitting position.
“Enough Olivia,” Liam barked.
He stood from his throne and reached for his wife’s hand. Riley placed her hand in his, both of them transforming themselves into their regal Queen and King stance. Olivia slinked back to her place beside Drake. Liam looked at Riley, an unspoken conversation happened between them. Riley knew exactly what to do by her husband’s expression. She knew the depths of his tortured soul better than anyone. She knelt down beside Celeste’s head. She pulled Celestes arms above her head and held them in place. The catch pole cable still wrapped tightly around Celeste’s neck. Liam knelt down between Celeste’s legs.
Regina cried out, “Liam please no.” Liam ignored Regina's pleas. “Did you stop when he begged you to stop Regina?” Riley spoke through gritted teeth. “Did you Celeste? When you forced his seed into you? Did you think he would never come for you?” Liam slammed his cock into Celeste as hard as he could lurching her forward. She let a scream, “No.” “How does it feel to to be the one vulnerable?” Riley whispered into Celeste’s ear as Liam continued to violate her body. “Hold her My Queen.” Liam commanded his wife. Her grip on Celeste’s wriggling body tightened holding her in place. Liam leaned into kiss his wife deeply as he continued his assault on Celeste. “Dagger.” He whispered. Liam could feel his orgasm building within his body not caring about the sandpaper feeling that enveloped his cock. Riley released her grip on Celeste and went to retrieve the Rhys dagger. Liam grabbed a firm hold around Celeste’s neck. The sweat dripping from burned her wounds. She looked at her mother, who was crying watching her daughter's assault, helpless. “This is your fault you fucking cunt.” Celeste whispered, as she gasped for breath at her mother. “Now Riley.” Liam removed his hands from Celeste’s neck, Riley immediately replaced his hands with the dagger. Riley watched her husband’s face twist and contort as he reached his climax. Riley pushed the knife deep across Celeste’s jugular vein. Blood sprayed over Liam as he released himself deep within Celeste. Her body jerked as more blood poured from neck. Liam slowly pulled himself out of Celeste, wincing in pain. They stood both covered in Celeste’s blood. Neither making eye contact with each other.
Regina sobbed at the sight of her daughter's life leaving her body. Celeste became who she was her fault. The twisted monster before her, Liam, she knew was her fault. All of it was her fault. “Liam if this is what you need to lead our country, so be it.” Regina whispered through hushed sobs.
“Our country? MY COUNTRY.” Liam thundered. “It is your fault. Celeste, my father EVERYTHING WAS YOUR FAULT. A child I can’t love like mine and Riley’s children.” A fresh anger coursed through his veins. A rage he needed satiate one last time for himself. He snatched the dagger from Riley’s hand and marched to stand directly in front of Regina. “Look at me.” He commanded Regina. “Liam..” “Your Majesty. You will call me your majesty. I am your King. You tried so hard to remove me from my rightful place. You destroyed my brother, you took everything from me. But I took it back. I have MY Queen. My family. And MY COUNTRY. And you will die here in a foreign country, and forgotten in your own.” Liam plunged the dagger into Regina’s heart. “Today I’m taking back MY power, not for me. But for her and my children. All of them.” Regina whispered, “I’m sorry.” Liam pulled the dagger out of her heart. He plunged it back in again. “DO.” The squish of flesh beneath the dagger was the only sound in the room between Liam’s cries. “NOT” “APOLOGIZE.” Liam had tears running down his blood spattered face. Riley ran over and placed her hand on his, “she’s gone, baby.” She wrapped her arms around him to hold him. He sobbed into Riley’s shoulder.
“I’m so sorry Riley, I love you so much.” “Shh shh.. it’s okay, I love you too.” Riley comforted him.
Drake and Olivia sat in a stunned silence at the scene that just played out in front of them. They could sense a flood of relief flow in the room. The room was covered in blood, two women lay deceased on the floor.. but somehow they sensed a peace. Evil had been exterminated and replaced with a light.
A dim light, is still a light nevertheless.

Operation Pink Kill (Choices one shot- QB)
The rest ^^
"Thank you. Thank you all for coming. I couldn't have been happier on this day." She leaned close to blew out the candles.
This was it. I could finally do it. Get my revenge and make a point at Belvoire. The Evil Queen was going down.
With a quick move, I clicked the button on the remote detonator and walked away discreetly, smiling to myself. My job has been done.
After few seconds, the enormous fancy cake exploded, covering everyone with light pink cream. The force of the blast managed to send a very dirty Poppy fly and fall onto the pool.
There was absolute silence. No one spoke as the girl rose up from the water, looking redder than ever.
Few more seconds passed. No one knew what was going on until all of them took notice of a banner in place where the cake had been. In the middle of it were the words in the color of shiny gold: "This is for stealing my lucky bra"
This was the moment where she knew...
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" her shriek was so high that it could be heard all around campus.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
"This is Ana De Luca coming to you live from Belevoire's University Zeta house where royal member Duchess Olivia Nevrakis and other VIP people crossed upon a 'caketrastrophy'. As the Duchess stated" I may be ready for everything, but I really wasn't for this....fiasco". Miss Poppy Min-Sinclair, the birthday girl had quite the splashy surprise on her special day. We will be looking for further updates and information on the situation. Meanwhile, you can see some shorts of this scandalous occasi--"
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I WILL KILL YOU!!!!" Another huge scream came out and broke of the camera, leaving everything black.

“Self-reliant, brilliant, brave, driven, talented, passionate,” I laced up my boots as I spoke, “I see fire, not ice.”
Smitten. 😍
“And you’re an idiot. Sorry dude, I mean, I appreciate all your help with the case, but I’m beginning to see why she doesn’t do relationships.”
Yeah, for real.
I nodded in understanding, “So, you’re the reason."
For sure. This guy is a doucue bag.
"Yep,” I gritted through a clenched jaw. This fucking guy. No wonder she doesn’t want a relationship.
Yeah, really. That double standard thing got him the axe 🪓, and he deserved it.
I glanced down into her face gratefully. To the outside world, Olivia Nevrakis was cold, harsh, mean even. But those were traits that were required to survive at court. And like me, she’d had to survive at court her whole life.
Awww 😍🥹
“You’ll see,” She giggled and it sent dread crawling down my spine. I’d never heard a giggle sound evil before. And I’ve taken down drug dealers, serial killers, and terrorists.
👀 👀 👀
“Oh- I…” Her eyes tracked from me to Sigrid then back again, “Sure.”
Haha I loved this part a lot more than I should've. 🤣
“Liv, this is Helena Samaras. My mother.”

Great chapter! I can't wait to see what happens with the Vii and Leo's mother!

Working with Nick to infiltrate the Gladius Company wasn’t my favorite thing. The guy seemed competent enough at his job. It was his background with Riley that I could have lived without.
We were getting ready to meet with his contact in the Liberation Core.
“So, you and Juniper, huh?”
“You mean Riley?” I barely glanced at him as I strapped on my Hardwire vest, it was expensive as hell, but it was the thinnest and lightest body armor money could buy. No one would know I was wearing it.
“Yeah, Riley,” he gave me a look. I knew that look. He was sizing me up, trying to determine what kind of threat I was.
Guess I wanted to know the same, “So, engaged huh?”
“Is that surprising?”
“Kind of,” I glanced up at him then back down as I double-checked the rounds in my Baretta, “She doesn’t do relationships, right? It’s impressive that you made it that far.”
Nick snorted, “So I see you’ve encountered the ice queen side of her.”
I shook my head as I holstered the gun then pulled my shirt on over the vest, “Not how I would characterize her at all.”
“How would you characterize her?”
“Self-reliant, brilliant, brave, driven, talented, passionate,” I laced up my boots as I spoke, “I see fire, not ice.”
“Yeah, until you try to lock her down.”
“That what went wrong between you? You tried to ‘lock her down’?”
“She chose her career over me.”
“Huh.”
“What was the tone?”
“Nothing,” I shrugged as I closed my locker, “I’m just wondering why you made her feel like she had to choose.”
“I mean…that’s just the way the world works, it’s not me…”
“So, when you proposed to her, did you feel like you had to choose between her or your career?”
Nick scoffed, “Of course not!”
“Why is it of course not for you and that’s the way the world works for her?”
“Because it just is!” He insisted as he followed me toward the door, “Would you want your wife out running around risking her life while the kids are at home with a babysitter?”
That brought me to a stop, “She wants kids?”
“What?” He looked at me in confusion, “Who doesn’t want kids?”
“Wait! You didn’t have a conversation about whether or not she wants kids? You just assumed she did and then unilaterally decided she had to give up her career to have them?” I knew my mouth was hanging open, but this guy was the textbook definition of clueless and that’s saying a lot coming from me, the guy who doesn’t do commitments.
“I- Jesus!” Nick’s face reddened, “Who has to have a conversation about whether or not they want kids? Why else do you get married in the first place?”
“Uh, because you love someone and want to commit yourself to them?”
“Part of that commitment is kids!”
“No. That’s an entirely separate issue and conversation.”
“You don’t want kids?” he demanded incredulously.
“I’m not against the idea,” I told him as I pulled the door open and headed down the hallway, “but no, it’s not something that I actively wish for.”
“So, if you were married to her, you’d be okay with never having kids, her putting her life in jeopardy on the daily and often not knowing where she is for months at a time while she’s on a case?”
“Yes! You just described what she’s like right now! How could I ask her to change who she is when that’s literally who I fell in love with? If she loved me back, I’d count myself as the luckiest bastard on the planet and the last thing I would ever do is be stupid enough to make her choose between me and-“ I broke off midsentence as I realized how much of myself I was revealing to this jackass, “Shit!”
“I knew it! You’re in love with her!”
“And you’re an idiot. Sorry dude, I mean, I appreciate all your help with the case, but I’m beginning to see why she doesn’t do relationships.”
“What do you mean?”
We reached the conference room door, and I stopped in the hallway to ask him, “Has she been in a serious relationship since you?”
“Not that I’m aware of.”
I nodded in understanding, “So, you’re the reason.”
“I don’t see how-“
“How do you not see it? You made her feel like she wasn’t enough for you the way she is… like she needed to change herself, shrink herself for you. That’s not love.” I shook my head and pushed the door open.
He followed me into the room still protesting, “No, that’s marriage, commitment. You make sacrifices-“
“I don’t think so. Not like that.”
“That’s easy for you to say now. You’re not even technically dating her.”
I stopped halfway across the room and spun to face him, lowering my voice so only he could hear, “I love the girl, okay? I don’t need her to marry me to prove that and I sure as hell don’t need her, or want her, to give up pieces of herself to fit into my life!”
“So, you’d really be okay with a relationship where you barely see her?”
“Asked and answered. Yes! Now let’s get geared up and on the road!”
Jason fitted us both with earpieces so our conversations with the target could be monitored. We ran through the details of the plan one more time then headed down to the garages.
I glanced over at Nick as we walked. He was being quiet and while I may have just met the guy, I knew that meant he was thinking about something, “What? Just say it, or ask it so we can get it out of the way and get our heads back in the mission.”
“I’m just wondering why you would be willing to settle for a relationship where you barely see her?”
A disbelieving huff escaped me, “Wow, you think that’s settling?”
“What would you call it?”
“I would call myself lucky beyond anything I actually deserve if I were the one she was coming back to, no matter how long she was gone. She’s worth waiting for. I understand what she does for a living, I understand what her career means to her, and I would never ask her to give it up.”
“But she could die doing this job!”
“I could die doing mine,” I jerked open the door to the extensive underground palace garages, “What’s your point?”
“That is my point! I don’t want to worry about my wife dying at work!”
“Were you planning to go into a different field after you got married?”
“Of course not.”
“So, it’s okay for your partner to not see you for months at a time, and to sit home with the knowledge that you could die on the job? Do you really not see the huge double standard there?”
“It’s not the same thing.”
“It’s exactly the same thing.”
“Agree to disagree.”
“Yep,” I gritted through a clenched jaw. This fucking guy. No wonder she doesn’t want a relationship.
Leo
I shifted nervously as the car pulled up in front of the small, clapboard house on a quiet residential street in a working-class neighborhood. We had opted for a sedate sedan rather than drawing undue attention by pulling up in a limo.
If Max was right, she was here. If Riley’s intel was correct, she was in Hidar. But even if she wasn’t home, perhaps the woman that raised her would be and I could get some answers. If she was home, then I was about to meet my sister for the first time.
My sister.
I gulped in a few deep breaths at the idea.
“It’s okay, babe,” Olivia slipped her hand into mine and squeezed.
I glanced down into her face gratefully. To the outside world, Olivia Nevrakis was cold, harsh, mean even. But those were traits that were required to survive at court. And like me, she’d had to survive at court her whole life.
For those of us who grew up in the palace, the pressure was constant, but Livvie was more than the tough façade she presented to the outside world. She was the scared kid that was delivered to the palace by servants after her parent’s death. She was the fearless twelve-year-old who didn’t flinch in the dark woods when we got lost. She was the young woman who came of age under the scrutiny of an entire country. She was the confident woman who took over running a duchy at the age of sixteen and did it well. She was a stunning beauty with a strong personality and most of her peers saw her as a threat. Because she was one.
But she was also the only person I’d ever been able to talk to, I mean really talk to. She knew things about me no one else did. She could make me laugh when the weight of the crown was crushing in on me, and she could comfort me when all hope seemed lost. And she was the only woman I could see sharing my life with.
I lifted her hand to my mouth and laid a gentle kiss on the back of it, “Thank you, for everything.”
“Hush!” She brushed my gratitude aside, but a slight flush crept across her face as she turned away, “Now, let’s go meet your sister!”
Riley
The flight to Hidar had been uneventful. Madeleine and I had met Godfrey and Emmeline at the airport. Emmeline had seemed surprised to see me, but Godfrey hadn’t. Unfortunately, no new information had been forthcoming during the course of our flight.
Tonight was a formal dinner with someone high up in the Via Imperii and the secret heir to the Cordonian throne. I wondered how much Leo and Liam’s sister knew about any of it. Who she really was, what the Via Imperii was all about, and how she was tangled up with it in the first place.
She had left Auvernall as an infant with a woman that Eleanor had trusted. Drake’s father had allegedly delivered them to somewhere safe.
How had the Via Imperii found her? Was the woman that raised her part of the cabal, or had she been tricked? Or had they waited until she was grown to approach her?
If she knew who she was, why hadn’t she ever reached out to her brothers? Was she really ready to depose her own brother for a chance to rule a country she’d never even been to?
“Who’s going to be at this party?” I asked Madeleine as we prepared to enter the ballroom of the palatial estate we were staying at.
She turned toward me with a sparkle in her eye, “The king of Hidar, Eirik Midsommar for one.”
“Impressive,” I fawned, “So he’s one of us?”
“Oh yes, and he won’t be the only monarch here, Queen Sigrid Runarsdottir of Vallenheim will be here as well.”
“Really? Why? I mean, I’m always up for mingling with the upper crust, but I thought this meeting was specifically for the Cordonian branch to finally meet the secret heir.”
“You’ll see,” She giggled and it sent dread crawling down my spine. I’d never heard a giggle sound evil before. And I’ve taken down drug dealers, serial killers, and terrorists.
We entered the lavish ballroom and my eyes scanned the area discreetly, cataloging who was there. Emmeline and Godfrey, of course. Also, the duke whose estate we were staying at, Carlisle Edmonton. I mentally noted several heads of state and a couple of celebrities. It was a small gathering, but there was a lot of political and economic clout in the room.
I angled for introductions to every face that I didn’t recognize. I mingled and I listened. This was the elite of the European branch of the Via Imperii. I was standing in the room with the leaders of not just the Cordonian faction, but most of the continent. If my intel was correct, the leadership of the entire organization was based somewhere in this region. I was close. I could feel it.
A high-pitched voice sang out, “Is that little Riley Brooks?”
I turned with a smile, “Sigrid!”
“Oh! You know each other?” Madeleine’s expression was torn between surprised and impressed.
“Of course! She was a fixture at her aunt’s gala’s until she ran off to save endangered species in the rain forests or something.”
My smile broadened under Madeleine’s scrutiny. The endangered animal story was how my family explained my absence since they couldn’t very well tell the truth. However, saving endangered species wasn’t really something people who subscribed to the Via Imperii mentality would be into so my brain spun quickly to come up with a plausible explanation, “Yes, well, that’s certainly what my parents told everyone I was doing!”
“Oh! Mysterious!” Sigrid clapped her hands. Her face held a brilliant smile, but her eyes were sharp and accessing as she demanded, “And what were you actually doing, pray tell?”
“Fun things,” I responded flippantly, “Extravagant parties on the French Riveria, lots of champagne, drugs, men, women…” I let my eyes run suggestively down Madeleine’s curves as I drawled out the last word.
Madeleine’s eyes widened slightly as a noticeable shiver ran through her.
Sigrid laughed politely, “Are you ready to settle down now? I hear you’re one of the contenders for the hand of the Cordonian prince.”
“I’m ready to take my rightful place among the rule makers if that’s what you mean.”
“And you’re committed to the cause? Because your aunt has been intractable.”
The Via Imperii had reached out to my aunt? That was news to me, but not surprising. It also wasn’t surprising that she had turned them down. She would never give in to such an organization, she actually cared about her people. I couldn’t say any of that of course, so I settled for, “Well, my aunt is short-sighted. Perhaps once I move into a leadership role in the Via Imperii, I can bring her into the fold.”
Sigrid’s eyebrows shot up, “I never knew you had so much ambition!”
“Well, you haven’t seen me since I was a child,” I turned to Madeleine, “Could you be a dear and fetch me more champagne?”
“Oh- I…” Her eyes tracked from me to Sigrid then back again, “Sure.”
Sigrid gave me an appraising look, “Is there something you wish to discuss privately?”
I shifted my posture into business mode, “My future in this organization.”
She lifted her champagne flute slowly as she regarded me seriously. After a long sip, she asked, “And what makes you think I have any power here?”
“Call it a hunch,” I shrugged, “But you’re a powerful woman, a strong ruler, and a world leader. I don’t see you accepting a subservient role in any organization.”
She nodded in approval, the smile real, “Fair enough. If you are crowned queen-“
“When,” I corrected her.
“Oh, I like you!” Sigrid laughed, “That’s just the kind of confidence it takes to rule. Not everyone has that, you know.”
“I’m aware.”
“Take my cousin Constantine for instance. His dear wife Eleanor was simply not suited for the throne. Unfortunate action had to be taken.”
My spine prickled with certainty that her death had been no accident, “What are you saying?”
“I’m asking if you have what it takes to make the difficult decisions.”
My eyes hardened as I assured her, “I do. And having moved in royal circles all my life, I know things that would be of benefit to this organization.”
“I admire your ambition, my dear. Like I said, once the crown is on your head, we’ll talk. Not before.”
That certainly wasn’t a denial that she was placed high up within the cabal. But how high? Before I could make another pitch, Madeleine showed back up with my champagne.
I pasted on my fake happy-to-see-you smile and took the drink as I contemplated my next move.
Leo
The woman who answered the door was tall, with blond hair swept up on top of her head and eyes the color of the Mediterranean. She looked so familiar that I temporarily forgot to speak as my mind spun trying to place her.
“Leo!” Her hand flew to her chest as her eyes widened in surprise.
“So, we have met?”
“You….could say that.” She glanced up and down the sidewalk then gestured us in, “Come in!”
“You’re Cora Illiopolis, correct?” Olivia verified.
Liv and I entered the small, unassuming house and followed the woman to the living room as she confirmed her identity and nervously rambled about getting us some tea. I heard Liv tell her that would be lovely, but my attention was focused on the framed photographers on the console table against the far wall.
Glittering silver frames held pictures of a dark-haired girl who I assumed to be Lena throughout the years. My eyes ran across them in reverse chronological order. College graduation. Secondary school graduation. A winter formal where the girl stood next to a young man in a white tuxedo, both of them smiling out at the camera.
Lena at about twelve years old with Cora at an amusement park. Lena as a toddler, her chubby arms wrapped around the woman that had raised her, face alight with love. The younger the pictures of Cora got, the stronger the sense that I had met her became and then my eyes landed on one in the back row, and before my mind could register what I was seeing, my hand shot out and snatched the frame off the table.
I turned toward her as she entered the room, a tray with full tea service clutched in her hands. Thrusting the photograph toward her as the memory crashed over me, I said, “You’re the lady from the park!”
Her steps faltered a little, but she nodded with a weak smile, “The park, yes. You remember that?”
“What is it, Leo?” Olivia had stepped up behind me. Her hand on my arm grounded me and I turned to show her the picture of our hostess with Queen Eleanor, and myself as a small child on a playground in Stormholt City.
Liv spun on the woman, “Who are you? How did you know Queen Eleanor?”
“Please, sit,” she gestured to the couch as she placed the tray on the coffee table and took the chair across from it.
I made my way to the couch with the photograph still clutched in my hand, “You knew my mother?”
“You could say that.” Her hands shook as she poured the tea and Liv leaned forward and took over the task for her. Cora gave her a grateful smile, “Thank you, dear. You’re Olivia Nevrakis, aren’t you?”
“I am. How do you know that?”
“I keep up with the Cordonian news.” Shifting her attention to me she continued, “I suppose I owe you some answers, but first, why are you here?”
“Lena,” I pulled myself together. It was ridiculous. I’d been taken by surprise before, but I had never felt so shaken.
Cora nodded, “How did you find out about her?”
“Katherine Bodecker.”
“Of course. I always feared the day would come when someone would come looking for us. I’m glad it’s you and not Constantine.”
“Why?”
She sat the cup she’d been holding down to keep it from spilling. Nervousness was one thing, but she looked terrified, “So many reasons.”
“You did know my mother and you were with her when she gave birth? Lena is her child? My sister?”
“Half of that is right.”
Confusing poured through me, “Which part?”
“I knew Eleanor and I was with her when she gave birth. Lena is her child.”
“Which part isn’t true?”
“For starters, Eleanor wasn’t your mother.”
“Not my biological mother, I know that, but she raised me. She was my mother.”
Cora nodded, “She did. And for that I’m grateful.”
“Why would you be grateful for that?” I took in her face again then glanced back down at the framed photograph in my hand. The one where she was decades younger. I studied it for a long time as recognition dawned and a sudden realization washed over me, “Your name’s not really Cora Illiopolis, is it?”
“No, son, it’s not.”
“Wait,” Liv’s head swiveled between us, “Who is she?”
“Liv, this is Helena Samaras. My mother.”

Monachopsis: The small but somehow persistent weird feeling that you're out of place.
Emma rested in the bath for several minutes, her hand haphazardly popping bubbles from the vanilla bath soap Olivia gave her. She felt guilty for pushing her away. Obviously she isn't trying to use you. If she was, she wouldn’t have helped you get away from Trey. She thought of the wound on her chest, how swollen and angry it was compared to the bruised flesh of her other breast. She let him do that to her to save you.
She slipped out of the bath and patted herself dry before wrapping her body in a luxurious towel, all the time chastising herself for her actions. She left when you told her you didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. She looked hurt but respected your wishes.
She opened the door and left the bedroom suite. Maybe she will want to join you after Liam cleans her wound. She looked around the suite, unsure of where Liam and Olivia were. She noticed a room service cart to the side of the living area. She walked over and plucked a strawberry off a tray before biting into its juicy flesh. She loved strawberries but Trey didn’t like them.
She quickly ate a second one before returning to the task of finding Olivia and Liam. She noticed a door to what she assumed to be another bedroom suite ajar and smiled as she padded across the room. The door was ajar and she heard soft voices whispering. She paused as she tried to figure out what they were saying but she couldn’t make out the words.
Her hand shook as it fell from the door. They are using you--they won’t even speak freely when they believe you are in the bath! She shook her head to clear her negative thoughts. Why do you always suspect the worst? They aren’t Trey. Maybe they are planning a nice surprise. Maybe they don’t want to disturb you while you relax.
Her hand reached up and cracked the door open when she paused. The unmistakable sound of a moan filtered through the gap. Her heart plummeted as tears sprang to her eyes. I knew it! I always pick the wrong people! Damnit, Emma, pull it together--you knew they were together!
She carefully pushed the door wide enough to look through the gap and bit back a gasp at what she saw. The pair sat on the bed, Olivia dressed in a white robe, Liam beside her, his pajama pants pushed down exposing his hardened length.
They aren’t doing anything wrong, you turned her down, now stop staring before you get caught! Her eyes remained glued on the pair; she was unable to tear them away no matter how hard she tried.
She watched Olivia’s lips move as her hand stroked Liam’s cock. Emma leaned in and focused on picking up anything they were saying. She stepped backwards as she made out a few words. Are they talking about how we killed Trey? She shook her head and tried desperately to understand what she witnessed. She slowly backed away when she heard Liam’s breath come faster and quickly walked away before they found her spying on them.

Olivia smiled as she saw Emma still in the bath. Being pushed away had stung at first but she understood; had she not had Liam for support she would’ve been wary to trust new people too. She still was, but something about Emma was different. She could spend hours trying to pinpoint the reason and still be confused by why she felt so drawn to her.
"Enjoying the bath?" Olivia asked as she shrugged off her robe and hung it on the door.
"It's getting a bit cold … I was going to get out." She looked and saw the disappointment on Olivia's face. She lifted her hands from the water. "I'm getting prunny."
Olivia laughed, her emerald eyes glittering with joy. "Well we can't have that now." She picked up the body wash and walked to the shower. “I'm going to take a quick shower. Room service is here--why don't you eat while it’s hot."
She turned back to preparing her shower, very aware that Emma was still the the tub. She turned the shower on and waited for the room to fill with steam before stepping in. The water felt like a thousand bees stinging her over and over. She picked up a cloth and washed her body, the remnants of their actions that night swirling down the drain. Olivia turned off the water and watched Emma through the glass. She wondered why she was sitting in cold water when five minutes ago she wanted to towel off.
"Emma, is something wrong?" Olivia sat on the edge of the bath to find tears in Emma's eyes.
Emma looked up at Olivia with watery eyes, guilt from spying on them twisting her stomach in knots. She chewed the inside of her lip, debating if she should mention what she had seen. If you tell her and it changes their minds about you where does it leave you? You have nothing, no one. "Could it stay between us?" She was so used to anger being the response she couldn’t risk upsetting Liam.
Olivia nodded, her brows knitting together in confusion and worry.
“Umm … I saw you and Liam ... together.”
Olivia closed her eyes and let out a breath. This wasn't how she wanted her to find out. "Liam and I have a complicated friendship at times. We were planning to tell you more about us tomorrow after the excitement of today died down."
“Okay,” she replied, her words barely a whisper.
Their heads raised and turned as they heard a gentle rap on the door.
"Yes? Liam?"
"The delivery from Bergdorf arrived. I'll set it outside the door for when you're ready."
"Thanks Liam. We're just finishing up."
“What delivery? What would Bergdorf be sending at this time of night?” Emma questioned.
Olivia smiled. “A nightdress.” She stood, offering Emma her hand.
Emma looked up at Olivia with surprise. She took her hand, carefully pulling herself up from the bath. She hesitated, her shame at being seen completely bare with all her scars visible to the marked goddess before her.
Olivia sensed her hesitation as Emma’s eyes fell to her arms. “See?” Olivia said as she stroked her hand up Emma’s arm. “You’re perfect just like me. Now, come on, let’s dress so you can eat.”
Emma paused as she lifted her body from the bath. “Aren’t you going to eat too?”
Olivia started to say no but the hopefulness in Emma’s pale green eyes gave her pause. “We’ll see.”
--
Emma stretched between the luxurious sheets, a small smile on her lips as she remembered the last 12 hours. She felt surprisingly calm and happy after the nights events. She couldn’t remember the last time she slept so well.
She rolled to her side and opened her eyes to find she was alone in the bed. Surprise filled her at the revelation. I really am free. Even nights she went to bed alone, she’d wake up bare and with Trey. Was she really safe or were they just filling her with a false sense of security, spilling empty promises just to pull them out from under her? She heard sounds coming from the main room of the suite and went to investigate.
She found Liam sitting on the sofa sipping coffee and reading the paper. Nearby, a food service cart held a variety of continental breakfast foods.
“Emma,” Liam said as he laid his paper down, “How did you sleep?”
“That was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in,” she said. “How was your night?”
Liam smiled as he sipped his coffee. “Wonderful, as always. Breakfast is by the table. If you would like something else, we can call room service.”
Emma walked to the cart and picked up a small plate. She looked over the spread and didn’t know where to start. She started with strawberries and yogurt before pickup up a piece of fruit that was new to her. Here’s to trying more new things.
She sat across from Liam and started on her breakfast. “Where is Olivia?”
“She went to Bergdorf’s to pick up some items for you. We realized you don’t have anything to wear and we wanted you to be comfortable.”
“That’s nice,” Emma said before eating a strawberry. The idea of someone shopping for her--assuming to know her tastes, dressing her--made her feel a bit uncomfortable, but she knew she couldn’t leave the hotel dressed in her pajamas despite how expensive they were.
She turned her head when she heard the door to the suite open. Olivia stepped inside carrying two large bags. “Emma, Liam, good morning!” She set the bags down before coming to sit next to Emma on the sofa. “I’m sure he told you about my secret mission this morning, didn’t you Li?”
Liam chuckled. “She asked, and you know I can’t keep secrets from you.”
“I hope it isn’t creepy for you, Emma, but I did a little shopping this morning to pick you up something to wear home. If you don’t like it, we can go to the store and you pick out something you like better. Once we are back in Cordonia, I’ll have my personal shopper meet with you and help you build your own wardrobe.”
Emma’s stomach fluttered. She couldn’t remember the last time she bought new clothes, much less pieces that weren’t off discount store clearance racks. “I’m sure whatever you picked out will be lovely. You have good style.”
“Thanks babe,” Olivia said. Emma admired her leather pencil skirt and pussy bow silk blouse as she walked to the bags. “Come along, let’s get you dressed. We have a plane to catch.”
Olivia led Emma to the bedroom and shut the door. “Now, I want you to know you are worthy of our love. I saw you with Trey and I’ve seen what cruel people did to your body. Liam and I experienced awful things growing up, so we really do understand. But now, we have reclaimed our power,” Olivia said as she took Emma’s hand, giving it a soft squeeze, “and we will never live in fear again because we have the right to protect ourselves.” Olivia watched Emma’s eyes as her words swirled through the young woman's mind. We will never live in fear again… we have the right to protect ourselves. The concept of protecting herself felt weird and foreign.
Olivia gave her hand a final squeeze before setting the bags on the bed. “I wasn’t sure, so I picked up a few options. We’ll send back whatever you don’t want to keep.”
Emma watched as Olivia laid out a small selection of tops, sweaters, and pants that could be mixed and matched to make several causal but designer outfits.
“What do you think, Emma? I was looking for something comfortable for the flight home.”
Emma walked to the bed and ran her finger over the panties Olive purchased. The tag flipped over showing they cost $49. The price of one jacket made her do a double-take. That was my share of the rent.
Emma leaned into Olivia and rested her head on her shoulder. “What do you think I should wear?” When she didn’t hear a response, she glanced up to see Olivia watching her.
“This isn’t about what I want you to wear. It’s your body so you should wear what makes you feel good about yourself. I just picked up some basic pieces to get you dressed for the trip home.”
Emma nodded her head before selecting a pair of dark trousers, a polka dot blouse, and a chunky knit cardigan. She pulled on a pair of leather booties and admired herself in the mirror. “It’s been a long time since I’ve worn something with polka dots. I loved them as a kid.” Emma smoothed down the front of the cardigan. “What do you think?”
“I think you look gorgeous. You just need a couple things.” Olivia pulled out a large gift bag from a bag she left by the door. “You are a noble woman now. I put this little gift together for you.”
Noble woman?! Emma’s mind swam as she realized how little she truly knew of her new life. She raised her head, the thoughts escaping her mind as Liam softly knocked on the door and poked his head in. “You ladies nearly ready?” His eyes traced the curves of Emma’s petite frame as he stepped into the room.
Emma shrank under his gaze; she was all too familiar with the way his brows furrowed and the way he tucked his lip between his teeth. She’d seen that face on Trey more times than she wanted to count.
“Is that what you intend to wear?”
Olivia noticed Emma’s unease; this was not how they would win her to their side. She refused to lose Emma like she had Juliet. “She on looks nice Liam. Besides, she should be comfortable. It is a long flight home.”
“Of course. Comfort is important..” Liam replied, his body tense, though his voice was light.
“We will be out shortly.”
Emma took the bag and set it on the bed, her small frame resembling one of a scolded child. “Should I change? Did I upset him?” Her previous enthusiasm over her new look was gone.
“There is nothing wrong with your outfit. Liam is just not … used to being able to dress down. Don’t mind him.” Olivia sat next to her on the bed. “Now go on, open your gift.”
Emma pulled the tissue back and gasped. “Is this a Daemarrel bag? For me?”
“Every woman needs a go-to bag and I noticed you admiring mine. Inside are other small necessities and gifts that I hope you like.”
She watched as Emma carefully explored the contents of the bag like a child who wasn’t sure it was time to open presents. She couldn’t believe Olivia’s generosity. Emma found simple diamond stud and gold hoop earrings and a matching makeup bag filled with essentials. This must have cost a fortune. What do they expect in return?
It suddenly dawned on her that they hadn’t actually spoke of what would become of her once they got to Cordonia.
Did I make a mistake?

Drake stood next to the window staring at Alexis who was visibly uncomfortable. After a few seconds of deafening silence, Drake moved to the desk and started looking angrily for some papers.
“Well, it looks like I’m stuck working with you.” He growled, “we might as well start.”
Alexis arched her eyebrows “Yes, we are both stuck. It’s not like I am jumping of joy to work with you either” She took a deep breath, after all, everything was her fault. “In any case, I would like to apologize, I kn-“
Drake shook his head interrupting her “There’s no need. You were just telling the truth last night. You have absolutely no feelings for me, isn’t that right Alexis?” He looked at her pointedly.
At the sight of those penetrating brown eyes directed at her, she felt her resolve to crumble. His manly presence had the amazing power of making her feel nervous and feverish.
“Yes, no. I mean ...”  She ran her hand through her hair “I don’t know what I meant. I just know that I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“Don’t worry you didn’t.” He smirked at her wishing internally that it was true “Concerning Liam though, I can’t decide if you really like him or you’re just playing with him because of his position “
She looked away without saying a word.
“What? You’re not even going to defend yourself?” He asked angrily taking a step towards her.
“What for?” She answered her eyes lit with fury “No matter what I say, you won’t believe it” She added sadly, “you already decided what you think of me.” She couldn’t face him anymore, so she turned to the window.
“And whose fault is that Alexis?” He took another step closer, now standing only a few inches away from her. He could almost touch her and there it was, that electric tension between them again. His fingers ached to reach hers. Strangely enough, for a few seconds, he had the impression that she was feeling the same. He could’ve sworn that her fingers moved too, almost touching his hand. Suddenly, she moved to hug herself.
He watched her for a moment, trying to decipher her expression. She had a deeply sad look on her face, but he couldn’t stop himself from admiring her. She was breathtaking with the light of the sunset reflecting on her eyes and auburn hair. There was some sort of vulnerability in her that made him want to take her into his arms more than anything.
“It’s mine,” she finally answered regretfully. “I shouldn’t have lied that night” Or last night, she wanted to add but couldn’t.
Drake finally reached the spot where she was standing next to the window. He leaned against the wall crossing his arms on his chest without taking his eyes off of her. He spoke with a soft voice, trying not to sound as angry as before.
“No, you shouldn’t have. But it’s done. Let’s try to forget about it and work together.” He took a deep breath trying to hide the disappointment on his raspy voice. “For Liam’s sake.”
She answered with a sad smile of her own. “Yes, you’re right. Maybe you can brief me before the meeting in Lythikos tomorrow.”
Pointing to the seat next to the desk so she could sit, he started to tell her everything about Liam’s plans for Cordonia.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Olivia Nevrakis was ready to host the first meeting of Liam’s cabinet at her Lythiko’s estate. She wanted to make sure everything would be perfect for his first encounter with the team, so she and Drake had spent hours planning everything until the last detail. They didn’t always see eye to eye, and she loved to tease him, but he was one of the most capable people she had ever met, and God knows that was not a compliment she gave easily, definitely not to men. However, his most important quality at Olivia’s eyes was his loyalty, she was sure they were the only ones that actually had Liam’s best interests in mind. Not only because they had both grew up with him and loved him, but because they both believed in him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Neville Vancoeur was the first to arrive at his suite at Lythikos. He hated to recognize that the rude redhead hadn’t spared in any luxurious detail and had even thought of buying his special brand of champagne. He was hoping he could convince the woman he loved to spend one more night with him but since the beginning of Liam’s campaign, she wasn’t being herself. His mind suddenly drifted to the money he had invested. At first, he had been torn between Liam and Godfrey but had finally decided that Rhys was a more secure investment than the old Fydelia’s governor. Today was the first cabinet meeting, he would be able to see if his money was being put to good use.
The ride to Lythikos gave Hana Lee an opportunity to improve her education proposal for the meeting. She was sure that amongst all the members of the cabinet she was the happiest to work with Liam in the construction of a new Cordonia. They shared the same ideals, the identic conviction that the only path to success was a good education and that the one imparted at Cordonia needed a desperate reform. Still, she was anxious to present her project to the rest of the cabinet. After all, she knew Rashad, Bertrand, and Neville only thought about rentability and a new educational program was costly. She only hoped Liam believe in her enough to fight for the budget that would fund the program. She was so lost on her thoughts that she didn’t see Kiara talking to her.
“Hey, Hana” Kiara grinned “Are you there?”
“Sorry, Kiara. Were you talking to me?”
“Yes, I was asking if you were ready for the meeting”
“Yes, I am. I’m a little nervous, but I have faith in the program”
“You do?” Kiara cocked an eyebrow “For what I heard is costly and you don’t have all the cabinet’s support, I know Rashad will vote against it and Bertrand too. You will need some friendly votes to get it through.”
Hana looked at her colleague inquisitively. “Like yours, Kiara?”
The brunette nodded “It would be a good start, we’re both women in a sea full of men and we should support each other.” Kiara didn’t add that she knew that helping Hana now could be fruitful in the future.
Hana was pondering Kiara’s words and was about to answer when she saw the young diplomat face lit up. Her entire demeanor changed, and she plastered a flirty smile in her face. Hana turned expecting to see Kiara’s fiancé Rashad coming their way. She was surprised to discover that the man capable of such a transformation on Kiara’s behavior was no other than Liam’s assistant, Drake Walker.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rashad Domvallier had been conflicted for months. The stress of having to keep so many secrets was slowly killing him. The campaign wasn’t easy either.  Kiara had been very clear of what she was expecting of him, and he knew it was best to play by the rules she had set for both of them. Rashad trusted her and was sure she wouldn’t stop before anything to get them to the top. He’d have to continue living a lie. Rashad didn’t like it but the truth would cost him everything, so he had to be careful that no one would never find out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drake thought about everything that had to be ready for the cabinet’s meeting in Lythikos. Everyone was supposed to sit down and discuss Liam’s program, but Drake knew some of them had their own agendas. They still didn’t know what Neville Vancoeur was going to ask them in return for his investment. Rashad Domvallier had a lot of ambitions and Drake knew he was going to try and take any possible advantage for his company. Bertrand’s well-known priority was to restore his family’s old glory. And Kiara Theron cared about her career more than anything. And now her. It was bad enough that he couldn’t shake her off his mind, now Alexis would be physically present during the whole campaign. They had spent the morning before together, and even if they both managed to stay professional after their discussion, a sort of tension that Drake couldn’t describe stayed with them. Drake sighed; it was going to be a long afternoon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Constantine entered the office Olivia had set for Liam at her house.
“Good morning son. I came because I wanted to discuss some of the positions, you’re going to confirm this afternoon regarding the cabinet.”
Liam looked up from the papers he was reading. “My decisions are already taken, father. You know who I chose for every position.”
Constantine smiled at his son. “I do, Liam. I just don’t want any surprises.”
“If this is about Olivia, don’t worry. She’ll understand. She’s too young to be in charge of the Department of Defense. And she’s always been supportive of my decisions.” He stared at him. “I won’t change my mind concerning Drake though. He will be my chief of staff, father”.
“Oh, I know son. And I actually think he’s a good choice. He has a master’s degree in political studies, he’s intelligent, loyal as a dog, and lacks the ambition that would make him a threat to you.” He added the last part contemptuously.
Liam answered angrily. “He doesn’t lack ambition, he’s just not as passionate by politics as we are. You know Drake wanted to do something else with his life.”
Constantine raised his voice. “I wasn’t going to pay an expensive career so he could spend his life taking care of fucking animals when he could be useful to us. To you.”
Liam knew there was absolutely no point in discussing Drake with his father. “We agree then. Coronel Richards for the Ministry of Defense and Drake for Chief of staff.
Constantine looked pointedly at his younger son “And your brother as vice-president”.
The young candidate sighed “Right. My brother” the same one that didn’t even bother to show up at Lythikos to be at the meeting.
Constantine grinned at his youngest son. “You didn’t tell me what you thought of your new speechwriter”
“I was wondering when you were going to bring that up father. Subtlety has never been your strong suit. I know what you’re doing”
“I told you there were going to be some perfectly good suitors at the masquerade. I’m just happy that you found one, Liam.”
“To be honest, I didn’t think I would like anyone at that party. But Alexis is …” He paused pensively “so different, so beautiful and passionate. I actually think you could be right father; she could be it for me.”
“Well, the timing couldn’t be better, Liam.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cabinet meeting started at 4:00 p.m. Everyone gathered around the table at the business center of the Lythikos estate.
Liam started with a short speech trying to inspire them with the ideas and projects he had for his country. Then he proceeded to announce that they had a new addition to the campaign team. A trail of murmurs was heard across the room when Alexis entered.
“Good afternoon, everyone” She was standing before them. “I’m Alexis O’Brien. I’m very happy to be part of this campaign. I can’t wait to start working with you.”
Kiara saw Drake looking at her the same way he did at the masquerade ball. It made her dislike Alexis instantly. “Aren’t you the ambassador’s daughter?”
“Yes, I am” Alexis stated simply.
“Wow, easy way to get a job.” She smirked.
“I’m sorry, aren’t you Judge’s Theron daughter?” Alexis asked raising her eyebrows
“As a matter of fact, yes I am. I’m also fluent in six languages and have been preparing for this position for a long time” She turned her computer showing a Google page “You, on the other hand, have not. I mean after your degree, you just banished. You haven’t work in any campaign or written anything worthy of being mentioned anywhere”
Liam rose to speak on Alexis' behalf, but she beat him to it.
“I sure hope you’ll run the Department of Foreign Affairs better than you google. I don’t have anything to prove to you, but for transparency’s sake, let’s get this over with.” She stood in front of Kiara. “Lookup Elena Ortiz”
Drake’s heart skipped a beat when she said the name she had given him the day they met. Alexis avoided his gaze.
“As you can see,” she continued when Kiara typed and multiple results showed on the google main page, “I’ve worked in two different campaigns, one for the New York mayor’s office and one for the democrat primaries, both candidates won.” She paused and looked the brunette right into her eyes.  “I’ve also written for the NY Times and the Washington Post, but I don’t know if that’s good enough for you.” She saw Kiara was about to speak, she lifted her hand to stop her “before you ask, I changed my name because I didn’t want my father’s name to influence anyone, I wanted to be hired for myself, miss Theron.” She emphasized Kiara’s last name.
Liam smiled proudly at her. “Well, if that’s all concerning Alexis, I have other announcements to make.” He saw his father nod at him from the other end of the table. “If I win, I’m naming General Richards as the Secretary of Defense.”
Olivia rose from her seat. “What? What are you talking about Liam? You promised me that position.”
Liam shook his head. “No, Liv, I said I would consider it.”
“Bullshit! It was done until you let yourself get influenced by him.” She pointed at Constantine “Is that how this is going to be if you win? You on the stage but he always behind you actually running everything?”
“Olivia, sit down.” Drake took her arm. “You’ll speak about this later, privately.” Drake was angry at Liam too, he knew how much Olivia wanted to be part of the cabinet, how hard she had worked for it.
Olivia sat visibly furious; Liam continued. “Everybody here saw this coming, but I’ll make it official. Drake, I’m naming you Chief of staff.”
Drake nodded.
It was Neville’s turn to get upset. “Him? Can’t you name someone who has more political power?”
“It will be Drake, and that’s final. Now the position everyone is wondering about: VP” He sighed knowing that his father wouldn’t be happy at his decision “It is true that I considered Leo for it, but he doesn’t care enough to even show up today.”
Constantine shot an angry look at him, but Liam ignored him.
“I decided to name someone that has always stood by my side, she’s an excellent tactician and I know she’ll defend this campaign with the same fire she just showed us. Olivia, do you want to be my vice-president?”
Olivia Nevrakis never cried, but if she did, she would’ve cried then. She answered visibly touched. “Of course, Liam. I’ll be honored.”
After discussing the rest of the cabinets’ positions and reviewing Hana’s educational proposal, Liam dismissed everyone for the rest of the afternoon. He was aware he would have to face his father’s rage, but he didn’t care. Liam knew he had taken the right decision.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alexis decided to take a walk around Lythikos to think about everything that had happened at the meeting with the cabinet. Lost on her thoughts, she didn’t see the smiling man running towards her.
“Lexie, hi!” Maxwell was out of breath trying to catch up with her.
“Max!” She was genuinely happy to see him; he was one of the friendliest people she had met in Cordonia. Or anywhere else.
“What are you doing here?”
“Well, Beaumont events are in charge of tomorrow’s fundraising. There will be another ball here in Lythikos, at Olivia’s mansion tomorrow night.”
“Olivia …” She paused thinking about her next question “She seems very close to Drake… and Liam. What’s the deal there?”
“Oh, they grew up together. Olivia’s parents died when she was 4 years old.” Alexis gasped, Max nodded and continued, “her father was Constantine’s chief of staff, so he adopted her. Drake’s mother moved to Texas and let him and Savanah, Drake’s sister, with Constantine and Regina.”
“Oh, why?”
“I don’t know much about the details. Maybe you could ask him.”
“Hum … so the four of them are like siblings” She seemed relieved.
“Uh, five. There’s Leo too. That’s Liam actual brother”
“Oh, yes. My father mentioned to him. He’s a senator too, isn’t he?”
“Yes, Valtoria’s. But he’s not like Liam. He doesn’t care about the people he represents or about anything really. Well, that’s not true. He cares about women. Like a lot. And I’m not talking about fighting for their rights” He winked at her
“Ha! Yeah, Max, I got that” She bites her lip unsure of how Max would interpret her next question “So, Olivia doesn’t have a relationship with Drake or any of them?”
Max snickered. “That’s hilarious. Drake and Olivia, he! If one day you get suicidal, I suggest you ask Liv that; you’ll be dead in less than 5 seconds.”
“Why? Do they hate each other?” It certainly hadn’t seemed so earlier. During the meeting, Drake had been the only one capable of calming her.
“The contrary, I think Drake is the only real friend she has. He’s like a true brother to her. I mean Leo is always away. My magnificent self, as unbelievable as it sounds, annoys the hell out of her and she’s in love with Li …” Max put his hand on his mouth realizing that he had talked too much. “Damn! I’m sorry!”
Olivia was in love with him. That explained, partly at least, her outburst at the meeting and then the tenderness on her eyes when she had accepted to be his VP.
“Don’t worry Max. It’s ok”
“But you and Liam are dating, right?”
She ran her hand through her hair, something she did when she was nervous. “Liam and I are getting to know each other. I don’t know what will happen”
“Well, Li is a great guy, really amazing. I grew up around politicians and I can tell you this, not a lot of them care about their country as much as Li does.” He looked at her carefully. “But, just so you know Drake is a pretty great guy too.”
“I don’t see what that has to do with anything, Max. I just told you I’m seeing Liam.”
“Yes, I know is just … Ok, I don’t know you that much, but I really like you Lexie, so I’m gonna give you a dose of my legendary honesty.” They both laughed. “I was there the night you two met, and as clueless as everyone thinks I am, I saw. I saw how he was looking at you, how he was smiling, how he was almost shy around you, believe me I know Drake since we were kids, I’ve seen him coming on to a lot, and I do mean a lot of women, but I’ve never seen him like that. And you seemed as smitten as he. What happened little blossom? “
Alexis smiled arching her eyebrows “Little blossom?”
Max shrugged “You smell like a cherry blossom.” He put his arm around Alexis’.
“To answer your question, nothing happened. It was a good date, but then I met Liam. That’s it.”
Maxwell shook his head. “It’s ok if you don’t want to tell me, Blossom. I know there’s something more, but I’ll leave you alone.”
She decided to change the subject “And you Max?” She smiled mischievously “Anyone special in your life?”
He blushed “Actually, yes. There’s someone special. I just don’t know where I stand. Is nothing official yet”
“Well, well, well look who’s being secretive now. Tell me more!”
“He! I will, just not here in the middle of the street. I know Cosmopolitans are completely out of fashion but I’m feeling vintage. Let’s hit a bar, Lexie”
Alexis snickered “I’d love to, but I have a diner with the whole cabinet. Raincheck for tomorrow?”
“It’s a date”
---------------------------------------
The diner had been better than Alexis had imagined. The Mediterranean food was delicious.  Olivia had placed her next to Bertrand, and even if he had seemed a little rigid at first, they soon found a shared passion for art and literature and ended up having a nice conversation.
Liam was chatting with General Richards but he couldn’t take his eyes off of Alexis. He was in awe at the way she had of being comfortable in any situation. She would be a perfect first lady. The idea of Alexis on his arm, sharing everything with him, being his wife, made him smile. People would say it was too soon, but he was truly excited for the first time since he could remember. He wasn’t naïve, but he’d always believed in love at first sight. Something he definitely would never share with Drake or Leo, both being far too cynical to understand. His eyes drifted to Alexis again. She was poised and elegant but had the sweetest smile and he had loved every second he had spent with her. He couldn’t wait to take her out again.
After one hour of painful chat with Kiara, Drake had finally found a valid excuse and went to the bar. He needed something strong to help him through the night. He couldn’t help but think back at the last argument he had with his sister. He missed her deeply.
Suddenly, his gaze stopped at Alexis. She was wearing a loose white sweater that made her tanned skin glow. He was surprised to see that not only she was talking to Bertrand, but she was doing it happily, and the old Beaumont was actually grinning back at her. She had the power of making anyone feel important, and it wasn’t fake charm, it was genuine interest. Drake smiled to himself. He knew he could watch her for hours. Her hands moved rhythmically while she spoke, emphasizing everything she said. Her smile lit up her entire face and reached her eyes. Eyes that were as expressive as the rest of her and had a twinkle of life that he was starting to like way more than he should.
“Watching something you like, Walker?”
Neville startled him. “What do you want, Neville?”
The shorter man snorted “It’s Mr. Vancoeur for you Walker”
Drake laughed “Please Vancoeur, you know I’d rather stop drinking whiskey forever that call you Mister.”
“It is amazing how you managed to grow up with the Rhys and, still did not care to learn any manners or respect for your superiors.”
Drake smiled cockily, put his whiskey glass on the bar, and took a step towards Neville. “Care to tell me who my ‘superiors’ are, Neville?”
Suddenly the room went silent, everyone now staring at the scene at the bar.
“I was just joking Walker, you should not take everything so seriously,” Neville thought that with the whole room watching, Drake wouldn’t dare to touch him, so he added, “your sister was definitely much more fun than you are.”
Drake grabbed Neville by his jacket, ready to punch him.
Liam stood up to diffuse the tension. “That’s enough both of you. Neville, let me invite you to a drink.” He gave his friend an apologetic smile, Liam loathed Neville but he couldn’t ignore the fact that his family money was funding half of his campaign.
Drake stormed out the door without saying a word.
Alexis couldn’t believe the scene. Neville was clearly provoking Drake and Liam, instead of defending his best friend preferred to buy him a drink. She looked through the window, a storm was clearly coming, and there he was, alone and upset. She had to do something about it.
Taking her coat, she decided to follow him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drake was fuming, he had let Neville get the best of him. He knew that Neville was doing it on purpose, that he was trying to place one of his rich friends as Chief of Staff and that he wouldn’t stop until he discredited him. And even knowing all of that, Drake had fallen for it. Liam’s reaction pissed him as hell too. He understood that Neville was crucial for his campaign, but it would be great to feel that for once someone was on his corner.
Suddenly, he heard a noise. He turned and he froze on place when he saw Alexis staring at him.
“Hi!” She said with a soft voice
“What are you doing here?” He growled the question.
Her face fell. “Oh, I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
He didn’t understand. “Why?”
“Well, you were obviously upset after what that jerk told you. And I think there’s a storm coming.”
Drake couldn’t help it, he felt his heart swell at her words.“You shouldn’t be worrying about me, O’Brien”
“O’Brien?” She looked perplexed.
“That is your name, isn’t it?” He asked teasing her.
She smiled rolling her eyes “Yes, it is. So, what are you doing here?”
He sighed; he really wanted to share the moment with her but he also knew that doing it would only deepen whatever feeling he was starting to develop for her. Either way, he couldn’t stop himself.
“If you really want to know you’ll have to trust me.” He took a step towards her without breaking eye contact.
She stared back. “I trust you with my life.”
“Your choice O’Brien.” He gave her a crooked smile and shove her onto the soft snow.
“Hey!!” She snickered. “I suppose that one was my fault for trusting you!” She punched him playfully in the arm when he laid next to her.
“Stop complaining O’Brien, you’re missing it” He pointed at the most star-filled sky she had ever seen.
“Oh God, Drake, that’s…”
“Yes, milady?” He asked jokingly
“Gorgeous. I don’t think I ever have seen anything so beautiful before”
He turned to look at her eyes sparkling from the light of the shooting stars and at the expression of pure joy on her face. And he knew that it was the same for him. He had never seen anything so beautiful before either.
He blushed and turned back to look at the sky. “Nothing beats a clear view during a meteor shower.”
“Well, I’m glad I didn’t miss this,” she said softly.
“Really? I imagined you’d prefer to stay at the house discussing political tactics with Rashad or budget cuts with Hana.”
“Ha! Not really my scene.”
“Well, you clearly like politics, you worked on those campaigns and wrote in political journals”
She frowned “Yes, I love writing more than anything so I enjoy being a journalist, but I only participated in those campaigns because I believed the candidates could actually make a difference in the country, not because I love politics. Believe me, I know how despicable and disgusting they can be.” She said the last words fiercely, she had grown up seeing her father’s unethical tactics.
Some clouds started to creep across the stars “We really got here on time, looks like the storm will start any minute now”.
“Yeah, I didn’t want to miss it.” He smiled nostalgically. “I used to do this with my sister Savanah every year. We grew up around the Rhys’. My dad was Constantine’s bodyguard, and my sister and I were allowed to hang out with Li and Leo. Then shortly after he passed, we moved with them for good. So, we came here often. And then Sav left too”
“Where did she go?” She noticed the sad look in his eyes and would’ve given anything to comfort him, but she didn’t want to get any closer to him. They were already too close for their own good.
“She left to reconnect with my mother.” He sighed “It’s a long story, one that I won’t be boring you with.”
She spoke in a soft but firm voice, trying to convey how much it mattered to her. “Your story could never be boring to me Drake. If one day you want to talk, I’ll be here to listen.”
He turned to her, the desire to pull her body close to his and hold her was overwhelming. Alexis was there, laying at a few inches of him, her smell all around him. It was torture having her so close and being unable to touch her. Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore, so he stood up.
“Is time to go, O’Brien.”
He gave her his hand so she could steady herself, but he pulled too strong causing her to lose her balance. She almost slipped, but he was quicker and took her into his arms to avoid her from falling. They stood like that for a few seconds, her head in his chest, his hand caressing her hair.
She didn’t seem to have the strength to pull apart from him and blamed his woody scent, it was addictive.
Reluctantly, she separated from him and took his hand desperate to keep some form of contact with him.
Drake looked at her questioningly.
Alexis blushed. “You know for safety.”
He nodded and walked her back to Olivia’s state.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in his room, Drake poured himself a glass of whiskey to calm himself. His heart was still racing after a moment with her. He would have to get whatever this was out of his system for his own sake. He knew that she would never choose him over Liam.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He had called her as soon as he saw the latest poll results. He couldn’t afford to lose and the way everything was going he was sure he would have to face a defeat. After his years in politics, he knew enough people in the right places, people that would be more than happy to help him in exchange for a favor or two. However, his most genius idea had been to recruit her. She was young and ambitious, and she wouldn’t stop at nothing to achieve her goal.
He was aware of how much he had changed. After all, he had been one of the first people to believe in democracy, to fight for it, but he had to admit that giving the power to the people hadn’t been a good idea. They weren’t always smart, and their vote often contradicted their bests interests. That’s why he had to step up one last time for the sake of his country and change the curse of elections.

A/N: This will have two very violent deaths of beloved characters. Feel free to message me beforehand for a spoiler if you need to. I'm not joking!!!!!!!!!!
Warnings: Violence, Murder, Death, Gore....the usual.
Tumblr media
Liam stepped into the office of his enemy, welcomed by a hazy smirk and venomous eyes.
Amalas knew he would come and she was ready for him. This was her moment to shine, to turn up the heat, to lay all the cards on the table. She needed him to know who he was truly dealing with and in her eyes, she was a force to be reckoned with.
For all of her confidence, Liam had his own. If she really believed the deck was stacked in her favor, he was prepared to deal them for her.
Liam noticed her tattered, bloodied clothing and the way she clutched her wounded side, almost immediately. Before he could ask, her eyes motioned to the far wall of her study.
Olivia sat perched against the wall, her long, red hair, matted to her face with fresh blood. A short sword impaled into her stomach and penetrated into the panel she rested against. Liam could feel himself losing it as his eyes widened in astonishment and disgust. Everything in him wanted to run to his longtime friend, hold her the way he did when she was five and cried in her room for her deceased mother. Doing so could be costly and Olivia would be the first to tell him to save himself.
He inhaled deeply, quickly exhaling, regaining control of his emotions and wits. Liam knew Amalas was a dangerous woman, however, this level of evil, took him by surprise. He couldn't afford to grieve or be in shock, one wrong move, or a moment of letting his guard down, could be deadly.
Amalas sidled up next to him, he gave her a sideways glance, maintaining his poise.
"Poor, Poor Liv....tell me Liam...should I leave her nailed to the wall or use her as rug?"
Liam clenches his fists, knowing she is toying with him and he refused to play into her taunt. He clears his throat, redirecting the conversation, "I believe we have some things to discuss".
She lets out a weak chuckle, feeling the effects of her bloodloss, her face starting to pale, breaths becoming more difficult. She slowly crosses the floor, stopping at her extensive liquor cabinet, "Can I offer you a drink first?", she asks feebly. Amalas picks up a tumbler in one hand and catches her balance with the other.
Liam soon realizes she has a mortal wound and without her security in the room, he could very easily strangle her to death right now. Her departure from this life would be fitting, she was, afterall, partially responsible for killing or maming his people and friends. He needed answers, and though Olivia was able to get a good lead on Nikolas, there was one more thing he needed to know.
"The only thing I want from you is answers", he replied, inching closer to her, knowing he has the upper hand. Time was his friend, Amalas wouldn't last much longer without being treated. She was headstrong and ruthless, like their father, he knew it was in her genes to not show weakness.
As the blood continued to flow in small, steady streams down the lengths of her legs, she sipped cooly on her scotch. She motioned to the end of the sofa, as she winced into her position on the opposite end. "You want answers? What would you like to know?".
Liam hiked up his suit pants and sat down on the edge of the sofa, "What's your game plan, why go to such lengths to destroy me".
Amalas let out a soft laugh, biting her lip in pure, unadulterate pleasure. She was anxious to shake Liam to his core and revel in doing so. It wasn't that she hated him, but, all of her training and upbringing led her to believe he was an untrustworthy foe, right behind their father. Cordonians had lavished in riches, but, also a long history of malicious and deceptive rulers. Amalas being half Auvernalian by birth, was primed and ready to expand its territory and bring her Cordonian half to its knees-it was her birthright too.
"Answers", she replied contemptuously,"...where do I begin....perhaps you would like to know more about your Queen's poisoning...or".
Liam grabbed her arm, cutting her words off, "What the fuck are you talking about?".
"Ahh, did Liam's little red haired pet not find out about that? I pegged you both as more intelligent than this", she jerked her arm away from his grip, "I suspect that in all the chaos after the attack and a non-existent staff left, you weren't exactly watching what Riley's new psychiatrist was slipping her.....and with you and your two lackey's away from the country, you've given them free reign".
Liam reaches into his suit pocket, frantic to find his phone. He stands and moves away from the sofa, attempting to get through to his wife-there is no answer. He sends an urgent text to Bertrand, who is staying in the palace with Bartie, insistant he check and stay with her until he returns.
Amalas watched gleefully as she prepared for her next reveal, . "I presume", she interrupted him, "you came to know more about our...connection....dear brother".
Olivia had sent him intelligence that Amalas was, indeed, Constantine's child with an unnamed woman from Auvernal. It wasn't something terribly surprising, his father had several children throughout Europe, all unclaimed, but, known, nevertheless. Amalas, however, was an anomaly-one who wedged her way into power, slipped between the cracks...had Constantine even been aware that the woman who married the King of Monterisso, was his child.
She pushed herself from the sofa, clutching the arm rest for support, her legs wobbling as she made her way to her desk, grabbing a file from the top.
Liam stood, following closely behind her, smearing her blood trail with his footprints. She was within minutes of collapsing for good and he would be damned if he would allow her the opportunity to kill him.
She turned to face him, handing him a small file, her dull eyes searching his face for an initial reaction as he began to thumb through it.
He swallowed hard, his eyes widened in confusion and astonishment as he continued to read and gaze. Pictures and documents, one after the other, exposing the culprit for the mission: Fall of Cordonia. His lips began quivering unmistakably and a single tear dropping, as answers became more clear. His blue eyes losing its gleen, he could no longer control his trembling hands as he drops the file to the floor; papers scattering around their feet.
A large smile tugged at the corner of Amalas' lips...she did it...she got him. With that, she falls to her knees at his feet, and collapses onto her back, her smile faded.
Liam watched her body jolt as she struggled for breath, drowning in her heavily filled lungs. He could let her suffer in this state, but, he wasn't satisfied with that. He walked over to Olivia, grabbing the pommel of the sword ripped into her, pulling it out carefully. After kissing her forehead and lowering her to rest on the floor, he whispered, "This is for you Liv".
Returning to Amalas who was choking heavily and writhing in anquish. Liam pressed the tip to her chest as he watched her eyes seemingly begging him to do it already, to end her pain. He wanted to do it, he was charged to kill her mercilessly. He, instead, tossed the sword aside, allowing her to slowly suffer and die from the wound inflicted by his friend-that was justice.
He knelt down beside her, hovering closely to her ear, "Let it be known Amalas...you were defeated today by Olivia Nevrakis...and that shithead, Bradshaw's neck was snapped in half by Leo...but our mother....I assure you, will reunite with the two of you in hell very soon". He tapped her cheek with the back of his hand and a victorious smirk, "Straight flush bitch...I win".
Amalas exhaled one last time and expired.
Liam stood, scooping up the scattered documents, placing them back in the folder, before exiting the study with them.
******
Drake and Bastien were waiting a short distance from a small, off the road compound, just outside of the city. They had recieved a text from Liam telling them Amalas was dead, as well as, Olivia. He also had Bastien reach out to his contacts in Cordonia to ensure Riley's safety.
Liam parked his rental car next to Bastien and Drake's, pulling off to the side of the dirt road. While he had been with Amalas, they were scoping the area, trying to find the entry of least resistance, discovering the compound to not be as heavily guarded as expected.
Bastien moves to the back of the vehicle, opening the trunk to a cache of weapons he had prepared beforehand. Drake still bandaged from his bullet wound in Valtoria, watched as Bastien loaded his vest with a variety of high powered gear.
When everything was ready to go, Liam began to follow them, however, Bastien insisted he remain behind.
"My mother has my son in there, Bas, I'm going".
Bastien and Drake gave an astonished look, unsure if what he said was misheard.
"Did you just say your late mother has Nikolas in there?", Drake questioned.
Liam nodded, still unable to process the very words he just spoke, his beloved mother. He told them about the file Amalas had given him before her death, the proof of her current and previous involvement spelled out clearly.
Eleanor was sent to Cordonia by the late King of Auveral, being his longtime mistress, to seduce and spy on Constantine during his social season. Her job was to convince him to ally with their country and use her influence as queen to weaken his stance enough they could overtake him. It worked like a charm, he fell in love with her, yet, Constantine was more ruthless and unshakable than had been imagined.
She played her part well, diverting the crowns money back to her home country. When Jackson Walker confronted her after finding out, she had him killed and fled the country, knowing Constantine would soon know, as well.
Drake and Liam remained hidden as Bastien detailed his plans to get them all past the six, heavily armed guards at the entrance, knowing there were at least two to three more on the opposite side of the wall.
Bastien tossed a Glock pistol to Drake, instructing him on which guard to hit and when. Liam crouched down, his nerves rattled, praying that this diversion wouldn't create a more dire situation for Nikolas. If his mother felt threatened, would she take it out on his baby? Could he be hit in the crossfire? Was he really even in there?
Bastien aimed his high power rifle, signaling for Drake to get ready. Both lifted their weapons, focused on their targets, and waited for the perfect opportunity to strike.
Liam closed his eyes, attempting to steady his nerves, staying hidden at Bastien's insistence. A worried father who just found out his mother is actually alive, can make impulsive, rash decisions that may get he or his companions killed.
"Ready Drake?", Bastien whispered.
"Yeah, I've got my target"
On three, both men unleashed a firestorm of bullets, quickly taking out several guards. They were met by a fury of return fire as they took cover behind trees.
They were startled to see an onslaught of guards exit the compound, many more than were previously thought. As Bastien peaked out to the side, he realized there was no way they could defeat them all before the guards caught up to them.
As bullets ricocheted around them, Bas calculated his next move. Prepared to carry out his duties faithfully, he commanded Drake and Liam to escape further into the woods. Both questioned his tactic and reasoning, but, he refused to say why, just adament they do as he said.
Drake could sense what was about to happen would be devastating. "Don't do this Bas", he pleaded, determined to find another way.
As their enemy moved closer, Bastien grabbed Drake by the collar, "Get the fuck out of here Drake! When it's done, you protect His Majesty and retrieve the young prince...my orders, son".
With tears pooling, Drake hugged Bastien, before he grabbed Liam to run deeper into the forested surroundings.
Bastien readied the pin, holding it tightly in his hand, awaiting his destiny. The gunfire stopped, but, the approaching footprints continued. He laid face down, in surrender. As the compound guards surrounded him, they began tugging at him and forcing him to his feet, hitting and kicking everywhere. Just as the head guard advanced to enact vengence on the killing of his men, and the vast majority of the guards surrounding him, Bastien pulled the pin.
The ground shook as the blast echoed past Drake and Liam, both, now in deep sorrow over the loss of their good friend.
Liam slunk down to his knees, reeling from yet another personal tragedy. There were too many people he loved dead, many of which were caused in order to defend he and his family. As his mind was wracked with guilt and pain, it was the faint cry of a baby that gave him pause. His gaze met Drake's, knowing that they had found Nikolas.
Drake aimed his pistol as he and Liam headed towards the compound, attentive and cautious of their surroundings. As they entered through the gate, Drake shot and injured another guard exiting the home. The sound of Nikolas' cries were now becoming louder and more recognizable.
Stepping over the injured man Drake just shot in the doorway, they stealthily move inside, allowing the unsettled cries to guide their direction.
As they rounded the corner at the end of the hallway, they enter into an open living room. Liam's sight instantly fell onto Nikolas, then to the woman he once knew as his mother, holding the baby in one arm and a small handgun in the other.
"Hello son....I've been expecting you".

Lindsey-
Myself and Olivia have been socialising all day. If myself and Leo are going to elaborate on our relationship, I’ll need to get to know his sister in law. She’s a snotty wag, but deep down she is friendly if you get to know her. I wouldn’t piss her off though. I’m debating returning home to New York, the original plan was to come short term after my kid sister was an emotional wreck. And that was before all the drama with Xavier had occurred.
We have an early brunch, Olivia’s type of brunch is opulent - it had to include sparkly champagne along with appetisers, why not? They can afford this luxury.
A few hours pass by, Liam and Leo return unexpectedly early. Their faces are like thunder. Noticing Leo’s swollen hand, I dread to think what has happened at training. Leo explained what my brother in law had done. My heart sunk for Drake and Riley- I’m not sure if I’m disappointed in Leo for interfering or whether I’m proud that he can defend my sister.
Later that night, Leo is asleep. The house is quiet. I am going to use this situation to pay someone a visit- I am ready to wreck vengeance.
*****
Drake-
That bastard really hit me good and hard. If he and Kiara were in a boxing match, I honestly wouldn’t be able to predict who would be the champion. Riley was fussing over me as we were leaving the stadium. I needed to contain a slight bit of masculinity, I now know that she loves me and this is the reasoning for her caring so much. She is an angel. I would take any bit of pain to ensure that she is safe. I insisted on her staying at mine or for me to stay at hers- but she said she would see me in the morning before the match. I am going to spoil her in the morning- it’s the least she deserves. I’m excited about giving her her birthday presents. I hope she likes them.
Laying in bed, I send Riley a goodnight text- when her name appears on my phone, my heart flutters. When I asked her if she would marry I didn’t expect a response- but her answer has been lingering in my mind ever since. Maybe in the future. Maybe if that arsehole divorces her- if he loved her as he says he does he would do the right thing. Thinking about Xavier and Riley riles me up, maybe i am feeling jealous- I don’t know? But just the sight of him and Constantine makes me feel sick. They are both as bad as each other.
Getting in my truck, I need to fix this mess. I need to prevent Riley from gaining more heartbreak.
*****
Olivia-
Myself and Lindsey had become close since I had offered for her and Leo to stay with us. We live in a mansion- there’s plenty of room for strays. I had my doubts about the homewrecker sisters to begin with- I slightly felt a touch of empathy towards Kiara and Maddy but the Brooks sisters are better suitors. And that is hard for me to admit. My husband and brother in law arrive home- early. Rolling my eyes back, I wondered what trouble they had caused. After their explanation- I am so proud of them for sticking up for our misfit group of friends. I’ve never liked my father in law, and I most certainly will never like my other brother in law. How Riley is still here I don’t know? I’m ready to murder the two men- how is she not?
Myself and Liam have passionate sex later that night, I watch him fall to sleep- knowing that I had fulfilled him. Sneaking out of the house, I knew I was the only person who had the balls to express my true feelings to the bastards that hurt my family. No one messes with a Nevrakis.
*****
Riley-
I can’t help but feel guilty for my previous past decisions. My boyfriend, and my brother in laws all had my back. Drake had been through enough trauma with Kiara, and was now dealing with my estranged husband. He wanted to spend the night with me, but I just wanted to relax before the match tomorrow and my birthday. I promised to see him in the morning- a smile came across his face which made my heart flutter. Since we have become official, he always sends me a goodnight and a good morning text - the simple gestures such as these are all a girl needs to feel loved. My eyes feel heavy, but my brain won’t shut down. I need to speak to him in person, I need closure- so myself and Drake can live a happy life. I need revenge for all the hurt I have received. Getting in my car, I know where I’m going.
****
Liam-
I’m furious with my father, and with Xavier. Why would they want to hurt Riley even more than they already have? I’m glad Leo taught him a lesson, because I wasn’t ready to start beating him to a pulp. Olivia would potentially berate me for it. But if anything else occurs- I’ll be ready and waiting. Debating whether to class Constantine as my father anymore, I know that karma will haunt him eventually. To myself and Leo- he may as well be dead. He’s never really loved us- all he wanted was the fame due to our talent. I will never be a father like he is, and I most certainly would treat any family member like he has. He is despicable. He is evil. One day someone will murder him- and I won’t blame them.
*****
Madeleine -
I feel so lonely in this mansion on my own. I’ve signed the divorce papers at last- I am worth more than Leo anyway. I am going to steal everything that I am owed. He never truly loved me anyway- the feeling wasn’t mutual to begin with, but I’ve learnt to find something else to love. Someone else to love. He knows all about my flaws. He may not return my love, like Leo did. But I can easily get him into bed. I am his drug- do I feel sorry for Regina? No. I am Madeleine, I get what I want. Due to the humiliation from Leo, I am going to be stronger than ever and not accept anymore shit. If the person I love betrays me in any way- he will be going to hell.
****
Kiara-
Living with my parents is a nightmare. Self infliction some people may say. I love Drake. I regret hurting him. My fingers always seem to type Riley Lopez into google. It irritates me but I can’t help it. I see a picture of her and Drake all loved up at the forgotten falls. I’ve lost him. But I intend on getting him back - il est à moi. Some people may think I’m psycho, yes maybe I am. But there’s always been that one person who has supported me, in an odd sort of way. We have a past. A secret. That only the two of us and Drake knows about. I need to see that someone as soon as possible. I need to get my life back. Au Reviour, Riley.
*****
Leo-
They say you can choose your friends but not family. That is true. Thankfully I have Liam. The only family member I can rely on. When I first met Riley, I was attracted to her- thank goodness it didn’t go any further. She’s my sister in law, and I intend on killing my father and other brother for hurting her. I found out that Madeleine had signed our divorce papers- I’m thrilled. I can finally live a life not being the playboy- I’ve fallen hard for a girl. If I have to commit murder to protect her and her sister, I would do it in a heartbeat. Lindsey must be in the bathroom, I’m going to sneak out and have words with the people who betray any members of my family.
******
Xavier-
Those set of bastards. They should be supporting their brother and manager. I knew it would be hard to settle anywhere new, especially after my past. But I have changed. I’m going to prove everyone wrong and make amends. Walker is nothing special, Riley will still soon get bored. She thought she could run away- but now I’m back, I will prove I’m a changed man and make her fall back in love with me- ella es mía. Til death do us part. I’m going to resolve this issue, we both have a job to do. One way or another- I need to remove the burden and I know who I need to talk to about this. Heading out of my apartment, I hope that person is in.
*****
Bastien-
Those girls have been part of my family since they were born. When I had found out what had gone off at training, I knew I needed to support the two of them. The team has always had issues with affairs, drugs, any scandal you could imagine. I hope the press don’t blame Riley and Lindsey. Those two girls have a heart of gold and don’t deserve to be treated this way. They deserve every bit of happiness and I hope that Drake and Leo provide that. The tip of the ice burg for all this mess, is probably sat smirking - not giving a care about the issues surrounding him. Arsehole. He’s going to be taught a lesson tonight.
*****
Breaking News-
Constantine Rhys - The chairman of the apples has been found unconscious. Sources have suggested that his drink has been spiked, causing the black out. It is unknown if the match will go ahead tomorrow. We will let you know as soon as possible!
******
Riley drove straight over to Liam’s house, concerned about what she had seen on Twitter. Wondering if the others had heard, as Liam organised for everyone to meet there. It was 1am, usually on her birthday- she would be in bed at this time.
Walking through the doors, she received a cold reception from everyone.
“What’s up?” She asked, feeling paranoid.
“Have you been to the stadium tonight?” Bertrand had information about who had been to the stadium that day. Now Riley was here he needed to ask her. He had asked everyone else. Everyone else had been there between the hours of 9pm and 12am.
“Yes. I needed to have words with Constantine. But I didn’t make him collapse. I had left and he was fine, Bertrand. Where’s Drake?” They all looked concerned, wondering if he was the reasoning behind Constantine’s collapse due to his absence.
*****
Drake was about to leave to head up to Liam’s after the ‘emergency meeting’ text. Closing the door, Kiara was stood in front of him. The crocodile tears began to stream. Brushing past her, he didn’t want anything to do with her. She had come to his home- breaking her injunction rules. He knew if she didn’t leave he would have no option but to inform the police.
“Drake please, I need you back. I’ll marry you. We can have children. The family you always wanted.”
“NO!”
“What does she have that I don’t? You’ve known her all of two minutes. I can be like her.”
“You will never be like her. I love her, Ki. I loved you but you hurt me beyond words. Now please leave or I’m calling the police.”
“Can you see a future with her?”
“Yes. Now if you are done I need to be somewhere.”
“You know what Constantine did to me as a child. It’s messed with my head. I will be a better partner to you.” Before Drake could react, Kiara flung herself at him. Wrapping her arms around his neck- she dug her nails in- leave a little mark, Riley will leave you now.
“Get off me now! We are over!” Pushing her away, he witnessed sorrow in her eyes. Shaking his head, he got in his truck. I love Riley.
*****
No one could get in touch with Drake, they started to panic. The atmosphere in Liam’s living room was like a murder mystery ‘who done it’. All being questioned by Bertrand who was berating them all.
New sources from cctv, have shown that a few members from the Cordonian Apples team visited the stadium between the hours of nine pm and midnight. They were; Liam Rhys, Leo Rhys, Olivia Nevrakis-Rhys, Lindsey Brooks, Riley Brooks, Xavier Lopez, Drake Walker. There were also three other people, who cleverly disguised their identities. It is unknown if any of these people were involved in the chairman’s collapse.
“I know it’s not Maxwell, Hana, Zeke or Penelope. They all have alibis. Whoever it was I need to know. I don’t blame whoever did it. I can help whoever did it.” They all sat stunned in silence. Until they heard the door swing open, nearly taken off its hinges.
“Walker! Nice of you to turn up fashionably late!” Riley turned to Drake, smiling.
“Happy Birthday baby. I love you.” Placing a kiss on her cheek, she was happy to see him. All of them felt like they were in detention and Bertrand was the demon headmaster.
“Thank you. What happened to your neck?” Everyone turned to Drake, noticing dried blood on his neck, all assuming it was he who was involved with Constantine.
“Kiara. She came to mine.” Riley’s heart sunk, she felt sick- hoping there was a decent explanation and that she wasn’t about to become heartbroken.
“Wait? Kiara did that? Haven’t you got an injunction against her? Have you called the police?” Leo demanded an answer, still contemplating if he was telling the truth.
“No I didn’t call the police. I think they are a bit busy tonight- and besides I told her to leave, because you needed us all here.”
“You should have still called them you moron! Are you that stupid? What did she want?” Olivia now interrupted.
“She wanted me back, she said she would marry me, have my children.” Holding Riley’s hand, he witnessed her begin to shake. “But I don’t want that- I don’t want her, I told her that. I’m yours Riley.” Brushing her hands away, she needed some space. Wiping the tears away, as she walked into the bathroom. She knew he was being sincere. But it still hurt.
“Hey. Are you okay?”
“Yes. Sorry. I’m coming back.”
“He means what he says you know. He loves you. He would do anything for you. Bast has just arrived, he wants to talk to you.”
“Thanks Leo.”
*****
Riley composed herself as she walked downstairs with Leo, overhearing Bertrand and Olivia argue- this wasn’t the start of a birthday she had been hoping for. Bastien ran up to her, pulling her in for a hug.
“Happy birthday baby girl.”
“Thanks Uncle Bast.”
Bastien cleared his throat, demanding that Bertrand and Olivia put the daggers away.
“As you all know, it is technically my nieces birthday. Riley you have turned into a beautiful young lady, you have a heart of gold. I know life hasn’t been easy for you- but you are so strong. Your parents would be so proud of you. As we all are. I’ve supported you and Lindsey all of your life’s, and I will continue to protect you. I was the last person to see Constantine. I watched as you all visited him, I don’t think that he knew how much he was truly hated. But Xavier will be gone. Here. I managed to get Constantine to terminate his contract. I told your parents I would look after you. That bastard isn’t going to ruin your life anymore. Next step, is to get your divorce papers signed.”
Riley held the paper, shaking- remaining silent. Lindsey came over to her providing her with a smile. Explaining that Bastien had done it for her, she had forced him to help her with her plan and to not worry about the consequences.
Bertrand cleared his throat.
“Thank you for informing us Bastien. We all stick together as a team. If you need to, use each other as alibis. Liam, Liv we will all leave you in peace. See you all at the match!” Everyone said there goodbyes, all agreeing to stick by each other. Riley felt a bit of relief, but still needed Xaviers signature. Thoughts were roaming through her mind on how to convince him that the divorce was needed, were interrupted.
“Leave your car here. I’ll drive you home.”
“Drake, I’m fine. I’m capable of driving.”
“I know you are. I want to come back with you please.”
Riley nodded, Liam said he would get Olivia to drive her car to the stadium for the match.
Arriving at Riley’s apartment, she opened the door. Drake lingered in the living area as she got her nightwear back on. Walking over to him, her eyes gazed on his neck. She knew he wouldn’t hurt her, but she still had concerns regarding Kiara’s motives. No one had heard from either her or Madeleine in days.
“Drake? Do we need to be worried about Kiara?”
“No. I dealt with her. She tried to kiss me but I pushed her away. I’m telling the truth. You’re my girl now.”
Drake pulled her towards him into a tight hug that provided warmth and love. Forcing his lips onto hers, the drama that had occurred was a distant memory that would fade away every time she was around him - nothing in this world, felt as good as the sensation of his touch.
The kiss became more passionate before Drake began to remove her clothes, seductively. Once he had finished, his hand rested below her ear, his thumb caressed her cheek as their breaths increased in sync. She ran her fingers down his back, pulling him closer until there was no distance left between them. Feeling the rapid beating of his heart against her chest, she led him to her bed - teasingly stripping him out of his clothes. Pulling him down on to her as she laid on the bed, her hands explored his bare chest- whilst his hand gently glided through her curls. Slowly moving his hand down her curvy body, his fingertips met and circled her already soaking clit. Smiling at her as she let out a a shaky breath, he kissed her passionately as his fingers began moving rhythmically inside her.
“Drake... Oh...”
“Are you enjoying it?” He smirked, already assuming that he knew the answer.
“Yes....” she whimpered, whilst gripping his back- digging her nails in deeper at every movement he made.
“Do you want your first birthday present?” Drake asked in a seductive manner.
“I’ve already got my birthday present. That is you.” Drake noticed the sparkle in her eyes, staring at her his heart filled with joy at her appreciating him for who he was.
“I love you Riley. I’m going to be the man you deserve. You’re my number one priority- and today is all about you.” Before she could respond, he lowered himself on to her- feeling the skin to skin warmth. Slowly he entered her allowing her to adjust every inch of him- both moaning each other’s names. After the first few thrusts of a slow yet loving pace - he drove himself harder into her. She couldn’t contain the moans that escaped her lips, every deep move he made - she would climax again immediately, which made Drake even closer. He was almost there, but didn’t want it to end- he couldn’t help it. Slowing his movements down, she could feel his hot sperm spill into her. Shit we were supposed to be careful.
Drake removed himself off her, laying next to her cuddling her, and kissing her shoulders delicately. Their chests both rising and falling in sync, their breaths in unison, and the warmth coming from each other’s body provided comfort.
“My beautiful girl. I love you.”
“I love you too. But I really need sleep- unlike some I have to keep an eye on the ball in a few hours- no pun intended.”
“Well maybe if you weren’t so damn gorgeous- I could have concentrated and avoided getting distracted and injured.”
“Shut up! Night.” Riley snuggled into his embrace and fell asleep immediately, Drake shortly followed.
*******
Waiting impatiently at the secret location which Constantine had advised him about, he couldn’t help but wonder if she would go through with it. Constantine had warned him that she would do anything for him. After seeing the breaking news regarding the man, Xaviers mind pondered if she was linked to it as she was late. A cab pulled up and he was relieved. Hoping she would bring some positive news.
“Did you do it? Did you see him?” Xavier whispered to her.
“Of course I did. I want him back as much as you want Riley back. Make sure no one has seen us.” Kiara snatched the envelope off him, scrutinising the area before she made a step forward to leave him.
“Don’t go spending that money stupid! If I don’t get my wife back I’ll be expecting it back.”

“We now cross over to our leading royal expert, Thomas Marin…what can you tell us about this upcoming European Crown Summit?”
“Hi, Liza. I'm here in Switzerland where the Crown Summit will be held. This marks the thirty-fifth anniversary where the reigning monarchies of Europe come together to discuss and cinch deals ranging from trade levies, funding and offering infrastructure and tax incentives.”
Ariel listens, her ears perking up the sounds of the faint, tinny television voices while her hands busied themselves with the menial task of cleaning up. The low hum of the heater which she’d finally gotten the landlord to fix after a month of cajoling sputtered to a halt, then groaned to a stop.
“Personally, I'm surprised it's going ahead-considering most royals who have gone missing are from some of the most powerful European royal families. Don't you think they'd be some tension?”
“I'm a bit dubious about that too, but event organizers confirm it will be going ahead…”
Ariel washes up the remaining dishes accumulated after her lunch with Leo and his wife Katie before both headed back to their home on the west coast of America, her thoughts sifting through the week ahead of work meetings and insufferable sleazy men, getting ready for the Thanksgiving rush.
During this lunch, Ariel told Leo absolutely everything.  All those months, she'd yearned for someone to listen to her, someone to sit down on the ratty diner booths and listen without a flinch. Now that she had curled around a cup of watery coffee across from the abdicated prince, she had no idea where that yearning had come from.
Intel was a valuable thing, but it didn’t pay the rent or get a plane ticket back home. What else could she do but sit at the screen, desperately grabbing at loose ends? It was a much better use of her time when she actually tried to convince herself of it. His tyranny had to end and using the information she had to be used in a clear and concise way. It would mean nothing if she didn’t use each of this in its littlest form against him. The information she has gathered from all corners of the globe should help her in that attempt. She knew that he had somehow escaped a high-security dungeon in the palace while awaiting trial for treason. How Anton managed to get out under their noses was a mystery to her. Granted, Anton had always had his own connections considering the power he’d once held in his hands. Ariel shivered as roils of nausea shook her again - a more visible aftereffect of the ordeal.
She was flipping through files about a few off-shore transactions that Anton had made to St. Lucia in the Caribbean when the unmistakable jingle of breaking news splits through her working bubble of concentration. That bubble wasn’t coming back anytime soon.
“We have just received word from the Cordonian Press Office that His Majesty, King Liam has been reported missing. That goes for three of his Royal advisors, Sir Drake Walker, Lord Maxwell Beaumont of Ramsford, Duchess Olivia Nevrakis of Lythikos and Head of Guard, Bastien Lykel. No further information has been shared.”
The deathly air sets in as she stares at the television with abject horror as icy dread trails down her back. A sob rises in her throat and she doesn’t hold back as she allows it to rip out of her throat like a slingshot. The sound is almost like a wail to her ears but she doesn’t care.
The world around Ariel slow becomes a dull void, nothing registering to her, nothing makes sense other than the short, staccato notes of her breathing. The journalists on the TV a low hum, the clock ticking in the corner, its hands moving like the passage of time. No way to stop it. No way to stop the inevitable.
Ariel stares ahead of her blankly, her brain shutting down, disassociating in shock. Her catatonic state the only way to separate herself from the chaos of her mind. Her tears have long since dried and yet she cannot gather the strength to move from her position on the couch, her limbs heavy with the burden of the present news ringing inside her head like a foghorn. She wraps arms around her legs as she hugs them to her chest and she welcomes the heavy cloak of emptiness that envelops her in its embrace.
***
Liam should be in Cordonia…
The words pounded in her ears in the dull aches of what felt like a migraine, but wouldn’t be helped by copious amounts of Advil and a nap on the couch. No, this wasn’t going away anytime soon.
Yet, she already knew he’d be in Moscow considering the package Marguerite had sent him two weeks prior.  It would be impossible for Liam to go missing outside of Cordonia. Any enemy forces wouldn’t even have been able to show their face at the border checkpoints. How helpful that had been, she thought ruefully. It wasn’t like Anton had been kept out again.
Ariel wallows in her self pity for a few moments more and contemplates if she should just close her eyes and forget about this whole mess and drown in her hopelessness. That was better than thinking about all the possible scenarios that could befall Liam and their friends. The phone chimes.
The phone's chiming. The untraceable phone is chiming.
Her eyes widen immediately and she leaps up from the couch and sprints to her bedroom. When she enters, she heads over to the bedside table and she yanks with such force that the lamp on top of it topples over and crashes on the ground. Ariel doesn’t have time to wonder about it before she lifts the phone to her ear.
In her rush, she doesn’t see the I.D. but in the next moment, she wishes she had because the next words she hears makes her blood run cold.
“Hello, Your Majesty.”
Ariel gasps, her jaw dropping in alarm.
“Anton…”
“Hello, my dear. I have a surprise for you.”
The way in which Anton says those words makes her blood boil, the rage seeping into her weathered bones and sending a jolt of energy through her. Her voice is sharp and succinct with the next words.
“Save it, Anton. I don’t need any surprises from you. You’re just a pathetic, disgusting, evil motherfu--”
“You know as well as anyone that a queen must comport herself to the highest of standards. I doubt they taught you the ethics of foul language alongside teaspoons and whatnot.”
Her lips were pulled tight as she gritted her teeth, the unmasked anger making her voice almost shake.
“What could I possibly want from you, Anton? You’ve already ripped me away from everything I care about. What could you possibly do to make me listen to you?”
There was a small sound on the other end of the line, just a small puff of air, yet Ariel had a sneaking suspicion that Anton was quietly laughing.
“What are you laughing at, Anton? How could any of this be funny?”
The short snort of laughter’s unmistakable now and an undistinguished shout sounds off in the distance before Anton talks again.
“Oh, I’m just laughing at how incredibly easy it will be for me to make you do as I say.”
Ariel scoffs, her fingers tightening their hold around the phone.
“There is nothing in this world that will make me do your bidding.”
“Are you sure about that, Ariel? I managed to do so before.”
Ariel frowns at the tone of his voice. There was almost unveiled glee behind it like there was something he knew that she didn’t and he was basking in this knowledge.
“What?”
She hears a low laugh in her ear and then a fuzzy shuffling noise masking the rest of it.
“Anton?”
The following sound seemed to echo as if he had put her on loudspeaker.
“Ariel...there is someone here that would like to say something to you. I advise you to listen. Otherwise…”
Ariel’s stomach pinched in fear.  “Otherwise, what?”
“Well...I guess you’ll have the death of Cordonia’s monarch on your hands.”
Ariel has to collect herself for a few short moments, trying in vain to keep the tremors out of her voice. The tremors fade. The rage doesn’t.
“I swear Anton...if you touch a hair on Liam’s head--”
Anton laughs, the low sound echoing in her ear. “I won’t hurt him,” A pause. “Well . . . yet.”
Ariel fiddles with the wedding band around her neck, the feel of the small diamonds lining the circumference of the platinum ring grounding her.
“I’ve done everything you have asked. I left my husband, my friends, my family. All for what? Revenge? Glory? Power?”
There is silence on the other end, another unmistakable silence. “I’m doing this because change needs to be made. I deserve to be king and if being king means I kill to get it. Then...that’s what I’ll do.”
Ariel shudders in disgust. The absolute nerve of this man. How delusional was he?
“It will be a cold day in hell before you succeed in that, Anton.”
There’s a short bark of a snicker in her ear and Ariel’s nails dig into the soft skin of her palm. She winces at the pain, the only reminder that this was real and she wasn’t dreaming or in hell itself.
“Oh, Ariel...I’ve already succeeded.”
“Oh?”
There’s a scuffle on the other end, a pained grunt and then a voice. Ariel’s knees buckle as the sound reaches her ears.
“Ariel? Ariel? Where are you?”
Ariel’s breath hitches she collapses against her bed frame, a broken sob wrenches out of her throat.
“Liam…” she gasps,  hand flying up to her mouth, willing down the sob wanting to spring out of her again.
His voice is weak when he responds. “You have no idea what a relief it is to hear your voice again.”
Ariel can’t help but smile through her pain, the tears slipping down her face as she responds. “I could say the same. I missed you.”
There’s a choking sound as if hearing her voice a second time has stolen his breath. “I’ve missed you too. I can’t believe--”
Anton cuts him off. “Ah. Ah. I believe you are meant to tell her something?”
There is silence on the other end before a throat is cleared and Liam speaks his tone grave.
“Ariel. You have four days to surrender otherwise Anton will...will take out most of Europe’s monarchy at the Summit. It’s imperative that you do. Don’t worry about getting to me. I’ll be fine.”
She opens her mouth, then hesitates. No, this isn’t him, or at least the husband she knows. It’s almost like there's a veil over his words, a thin shroud of anger and reluctance lacing through each word almost as if he’s been forced to say it.
Ariel grinds her teeth in frustration. Oh, Anton was good. Too good.
“Four days. Four days, and I’ll be there.”
There is a satisfied hum at Anton’s end and she smiles at the sound. She didn’t know that she could be that convincing but after years of hiding and covering her tracks, she was more than an expert at hiding true emotion from her voice.
Liam begins to speak again. “Ariel, please be careful--”
“I think Liam has had enough of a reunion today. We’ll save the big one till later. Take him back to his cell.”
Despite the plan already concocting in her head about the next few days, Ariel couldn’t help the spike of fear to thunder through her at the thought of Liam getting hurt inadvertently by her hand. She was the catalyst for all of this, after all.
“How did you find him?”
The words spill out without forethought, just an attempt, a desperate and frantic one at that, trying to keep Anton on the phone.
There's dark amusement behind his words as he speaks to her, the smug tenor of his voice making her skin crawl.  “Oh. In Moscow, with Marguerite and his sorry excuse for advisors. You really should consider a better delivery system than the one you had. Packages get tampered with all the time. Among other things.”
Ariel didn’t have time to say anything else as the line went dead. She glanced at the phone, a burst of anger swelling into her chest until finally a guttural scream left her mouth, the sound reverberating around the room and in her burst of rage throws the phone against the wall and it shatters against it with a resounding crash.
Shit.
Ariel begins to pace, her feet wearing a whole into the carpet. What will she do now? She was well and truly stuck now. Despite an earlier plan in her head forming, so many were bouncing around in her head like a ping-pong match that she couldn’t make sense of them. Anton theoretically had her by the throat and any wrong move would mean certain death. For her and ultimately her friends and…
Liam.
A series of flashing images pass by her eyes in quick succession. Some good. Some bad. But the worst of all is seeing Liam at the mercy of Anton’s contempt, on his knees, his face battered and bruised with dark, tired eyes, those wondrous blue eyes almost dark and hopeless like the ocean during one of Cordonia’s winter storms, his frame defeated like he was broken too many times to really fight anymore.
She had fought hard to keep Liam safe and she’d be damned if she’d let Liam fall and surrender their kingdom into the hands of that maniac. Liam would break if he lost Cordonia. Liam was Cordonia. If a king couldn’t be saved, at least the realm could be.
So she set her plans in motion, using the resources she had at her disposal and contacting most of the royals through an encrypted server. If she was going to beat Anton, she was going to need the strength of all of them combined. They were royals but they knew how to kick ass when needed. The prince of Belgium might have come off as a soft-hearted man, but years of royal pedigree had made him calculating to a fault. Marguerite might be a little naive, Ariel admitted, but her ability to cause a distraction were second to none. The other royals had at least one thing in common - the fleeting chance for redemption and their yearning desperation for it. Perhaps that would finally do the trick.
The date was set.
He wanted power. And Anton was particularly smart enough to find it. At this time and in this particular year there was only one event which would give Anton the leverage he needed against Europe. Leo was right. The Crown Summit is the perfect setting and Anton will find this as the perfect opportunity to implement his plans to the highest of degrees.
Ariel shivers as cold dread washes over her. She knew it was coming. Anton never let her forget it and her contacts kept tabs on the European royal families. Liam’s warning rings inside her head. This was it.
As the last of the agreed confirmations roll into her inbox, she nods, coldly booking a ticket. If Anton was going to be a crazy, power-hungry psychotic asshole then she was more than ready to smack that smug look off his face while she pulled the rug out from underneath him in a spectacular fashion that even Olivia Nevrakis herself will applaud.
Ariel snaps her laptop shut and gathers a travel bag, haphazardly chucking in whatever her hands decided to find. Time was of the essence.
If Anton wanted her in four days, she was going to be there in one. God knows the other missing royals at the rendezvous would need that extra time. Marguerite most of all.
Ariel zips up her bag, a smirk pulls up her lips and despite herself, a triumphant laugh escapes her.
Anton thought he was above everything and two steps ahead.
Well...this time? Anton will be the one in the firing line. He just didn’t know it yet.
Anton wasn’t the only one with the power.
***
“You have four days. Well, she does anyways.”
Liam glared at Anton as he hung up from Ariel, a smirk lifting his lips. “What are you doing, Anton? You can’t possibly think the Crown Summit will cower to your whims. You have no idea who you’re messing with here.”
Anton glares as he lowers his head to look into Liam’s eyes with contempt, his lips pull up into a sneer. “I am taking what is mine. And this time I will. Not. Lose.” The last words shooting out of his mouth like knives through clenched teeth, the rage seeping through his tone.
If he was any other person who had not been witness to the atrocities that Anton had done he would shrink in fear but no. Liam was stronger than that and Anton’s wrath did not waver him at all. He survived four assassination attempts for heaven’s sake!
Liam refuses to flinch, even though his face throbbed and his wrists ache against the chains binding his hands together. He might be king but he wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Leo taught him that.
Liam stares up at Anton defiantly, his lip pulling up in a mirrored show of Anton’s sneer.
“I wish you luck on that endeavour, Anton, but it will be a fruitless one.”
Anton leans back against the concrete wall, arms folded over his chest, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “I find that hard to believe when I have you here, in chains, battered and bruised. I believe I have the upper hand.”
Liam shakes his head, his lips smoothing into a thin line. “You can lock me up and beat me all you want but you will never get my crown.” Or Europe’s either.
Anton rolls his eyes as he steps away from the wall and leans down, roughly grabbing Liam’s chin. His eyes are like frigid ice as he stares Liam down, his mouth curled in a snarl.
“Listen, here, Your Majesty,” Anton spits out the words like hot venom, “I will get the crown. Even if I have to wrench it from your cold, dead hands. This time, you won’t be able to stop me.”
Liam grins against Anton’s grip on his jaw. “I’d like to see you try…again. ”
Anton growls deep in his throat, pinning Liam down with his black eyes before Anton rears back and headbutts Liam with such force that burning fire explodes against his face and he can’t help the yelp of pain that escapes his mouth. He falls to the ground with an ungraceful thud, his eyes seeing stars as the world around him blurs, he hears a shout but it’s lost to him as he blacks out completely.
***
The sound of soft discussion arouses Liam from unconsciousness, his face throbbing painfully, his head pounding as he brings a hand to his face, and finds the once straight and narrow bridge of his nose slightly askew. Broken bones were a common occurrence through his childhood and teenage years. His incorrigible brother was the main reason why. Having seen Leo break his nose on two occasions, setting it back into place was easy, although in Leo’s case he had the royal physicians to do it. Liam had no such thing. Tensing his muscles at the pain that was to come, he places both hands on his nose, tilts his head back to open his nostrils and with a sharp pull, his nose realigns. Liam gingerly touches his face and finds the spot tender, blood starts to trickle down his button-down shirt. He’d have to get it looked at once he returned to Cordonia but he thought a broken nose was a small price to pay for getting rid of Anton once and for all. A battle scar some might say.
Shuffling can be heard before a whisper pierces Liam’s painful bleary haze, “Liam? You awake?”
Liam’s eyes open slowly, the pain behind his eyelids almost making him want to immediately close them again as if that would stem how much he was aching right now. Another groan leaves him as he sits up against the metal cot.
As Liam opens his eyes, he comes into contact with the stark white walls of his cell, the titanium bars which were two inches thick kept him caged. He stands up with shaky legs and pads over to the bars and meets his best friend.
“Drake? What happened?”
Liam knew that something must have happened for his nose to be broken the way it had been but as of now his brain was a messy, thick fog.
Drake gives him a sympathetic look.
“Ah...well…”
Drake trails off as he averts his gaze, his feet shuffling against the floor. Liam rolls his eyes and then winces. Even that small action prompted a throbbing pain to explode inside his head.
“Drake. No need to dance around the subject.”
Drake clears his throat, his hands gripping the bars tightly.
“Well...you kinda got knocked out cold but that was before you taunted him. Mind you...I would have said other colourful words to him but I believe you held yourself pretty well.”
Liam squints, his foggy mind trickling away, the images in his head seeming to be moving in slow motion, yet they were slowly clicking together like a puzzle piece. Once his mind came up for air and the last of the puzzle fit together, Liam’s eyes widened.
“Ariel was on the phone! I talked to Ariel!”
Drake’s lips twitched in a smile hearing the relief in his voice and the childlike happiness on Liam’s face. One measly phone call to his wife and Liam was already happy beyond words.
“Yeah, Liam. You talked to her…”
Drake’s face darkened after his words trailed off and Liam noticed the change and gave him a quizzical look. “What is it, Drake?”
Drake gave him a small, pained smile, his grip on the bars tightening. Drake wanted Liam to guess but considering he just woke up from a massive head-butt from the raging asshole upstairs, Drake figured he’d need a little prompting. Liam might still be a bit disorientated.
Drake took a deep breath and met his best friends eyes, his face a stoic mask yet was whole-heartedly trying not to break it. “You were on the phone to her but she...she’s on her way here. Anton gave her an ultimatum. Either she comes here or you die.”
Liam’s heart sank at that thought. No, it couldn’t be. Not when they were so close.
He knew Ariel enough that he believed she would find a loophole. She always did. Now, it was only a matter if he could as well.
Drake sighs in relief when he finally finds the glint that had been missing the last few weeks in the once strong king’s eyes. Resolve. Determination. Strength.
Liam gave Drake a smirk, so reminiscent of when they were boys and they would play maze-tag, his young childhood laughter echoing around the palace gardens when he’d do rather un-princely behaviour.
They only had four days to get out of this godforsaken place and somehow stop Anton's tyranny. If he knew Anton as well as Liam thought he did, Anton would stop at nothing to overthrow Europe. Cordonia was just a small country, but Europe? Anton would be unstoppable. Nazario's email echoes in Liam's cloudy mind and Liam's eyes widen.
Shit.
Nazario's intel becoming startlingly clear.
Anton will surely succeed but Liam knew that he could not let that happen and Liam suppressed a smirk knowing he wasn’t going to let that happen. He had some tricks up his sleeve. Thank god for all those lessons on strategy and occasional poker games with Drake to hone the skill of deception.
The sound of a loud clang interrupts the silence and a sharp clinking sound and then the soft thudding of footsteps the only sound to fill the air before Liam and Drake come face to face with a harsh looking man. His black hair long and greasy, tied at the nape of his neck, a jagged scar dotting the place around his pitch-black eyes.
The man standing in front of them lifts his pale lips in a scowl, his expression sour. "So...this is the famous Liam I've heard so much about."
”The favour is not returned.” Liam says as his eyes narrow at the man standing in front of him. Nazario’s email comes to his mind and the images that he had sent and the man beside Anton. It becomes glaringly obvious that the man standing in front of them was Gregory.
Gregory gives Liam a smirk, crossing his arms across his chest. “You are in for some trouble. Anton is going to make some real good changes to Europe and your small excuse for a country is just the start.”
Drake scoffs. “Yeah, right. I’m sure Anton has a big enough ego already which means he doesn’t need to be stroked by you any more than it has.”
Gregory spears Drake with a dark, menacing glare yet it did nothing to deter the simmering urge to hit this guy. Drake's hands twisted against the metal in response to Gregory's sneer.
Liam turns to the ragged man and pins him with a cold stare, the blue of his eyes solid like sapphires.
Liam's jaw clenches so hard, a muscle ticks and his hands holding the bars with a white-knuckled grip. Liam spoke with a calm note to his voice, it was so level that Drake shivered. It had been a long while since he'd heard that tone and the last time he heard it was when Constantine had thrown Ariel out of the ballroom at his Coronation.
"I will advise that you do not speak another word otherwise you will have the wrath of me and an entire country behind it. You will leave us. Now. I have no patience for a sympathizer like you who blindly follows a man who uses callous ways to gain power. Go."
There’s a dangerous bite to the last word yet Liam stood with the stoic and commanding air of a king who would do well on his promise to bring that fire to anyone who dares defy him and Gregory must have realised that because he swallows, sending a glare to them both and stomping away, grumbling under his breath.
Gregory's footsteps fade and there’s an unmistakable sound of a door clicking shut before Liam's demeanor relaxes and his eyes turn warm, focusing on Drake's form across from him.
Liam's voice dropped to a whisper. "I have a plan…”
Drake raises his eyebrows. “And what does this plan entail, Liam?”
Liam gives him an appraising look. “Have you been practicing your bluffing skills, Drake?”
Drake looks at Liam confused, his eyebrows pinching inwards before he catches on quickly, seeing the gleam in Liam's now bright eyes.
"I can kick your ass in poker. I'm sure I can bluff my way out of anything at this point."
Liam smiles wide. "Excellent. Now...what would you say to a little subterfuge? Are you ready?"
Drake grins, his brown eyes matching the rising adrenaline rush of revenge sparking in Liam's ocean blue ones. "More than ready, my friend."

Operation Pink Kill (Choices one shot- QB)
Part 2
°°°∆∆°°°°∆∆ The day after ∆∆°°°°∆∆°°° Zeta house. Full of Poppy's minions or servants. The two most dangerous people that we could come across in this house were Chloe, the guard puppy, and the Satan herself. Gosh, I just couldn't forgive what she has done. No one and I mean, NO one had stole my underwear before, especially my bra. Is she obsessed? I.. Eww. I knew she was a total bitch to everyone at Belvoire. I mean, I get it, your family gives a huge contribution to the campus and for that you are important, but you dont fucking need to act like an evil queen and be mean to everyone you see or crush the ones that cross your way. By the time we reached the house entrance, Zo saw something and pushed us all behind a bush. "What the hell are you doing Wade?" Penelope snapped at Zoey. She just shushed the angry girl and motioned with her head "Look, there is someone guarding the entrance". We all looked around the bush. Veronica Lombardi, the girl that only had eyes for her half million followers was there tapping away on her phone. She was only on Poppy's inner circle so that the Queen of snobs could have more reputation on Veronica's accounts. The only thing that the tan socialite girl had to do was walking beside Poppy around campus. "Wha-what do we do no-w...?" Taylor took some steps back, clearly scared of the only obstacle that was separating success from total failure. I just smiled and patted her shoulder " Hey, don't worry. Everything is going to be alright. You know how badly Poppy treats everyone. We just need to rise up and go through so...follow me. I got this" . I rose up and just walked towards Veronica, keeping my head held high while the others carried the 'secret weapon'. "Hi Veronica, can we come in? Poppy sent Taylor to fetch her birthday cake but it was too much weight for her to carry around." I managed to put out the biggest and 'honest' smile on my face. The girl glanced away quickly from her phone and only shrugged "I don't really care". She started to tap on her phone again, standing aside while we all passed with the 'cake'. The party was already in full swing. Oh wow. All of Zeta house has been decorated with gold and silver. Most of the Zeta girls were dressed in as if this was a fancy gala. Jeez...There were so many celebrities mingling inside the house. Among them stood out Ryan Summers and Cassandra Leigh, the very well known actors; Jaylen Riaz, everyone's favourite singer and.. Oh god! The most fiercest and badass person I have ever seen on TV. Duchess Olivia Nevrakis was here. Really here. How the hell Poppy knew royalty?? " Bree...Bree!" my trance was broke as Penelope called my name, waving her hand right in front of my eyes " We need to do the exchange before Poppy or Chloe show up" she pulled me towards the yard. Once outside, the plan began. Penelope stayed on lookout, Taylor and Zoe disassembled the original cake and put it in Zeta's shack for pool equipment while I assembled the 'surprise cake', which was exact copy to the original thanks to Taylor's information. After everything got settled I turned to all 3 of them "Great work girls, but now you need to go before they come out here". They all pulled me in a tight and warm group hug. I could never have done this without them. We all just wanted the same. " Be safe" Zo squeezed my shoulder and sneaked back inside with the others. I just took a hiding place behind a bush but something lack of sleep took action and eventually I fell asleep. Some time later, I woke up in a startle as commotion was heard. Still dozed off, I just peeked through the bush. "Happy birthday Poppy!!!" All of the guests stood around the pool area, clapping delightfully to the pink queen, while she stood near the cake. I swear that never have seen Poppy smiling so brightly in my whole time at Belvoire. Her teeth were so white that you had to avoid that view. This whole plan almost sounded so pityful since it wasn't the guest's fault but this girl had to pay so I really didn't cared at this point.

We drove half the night and arrived at the Nevrakis keep in the wee hours of the morning, with zero advanced notice. I couldn’t risk calling Liv ahead of time to give her a heads up. My phone was encrypted, but hers wasn’t.
The gravel crunched loudly under the tires, echoing into the Lythikosian night. Olivia’s ancestral home was fairly isolated, surrounded by wilderness, a forest, a lake and a lot of damn snow. Sounds carried a long way there, especially at night, when the world fell largely silent. We were greeted by two Lythikosian guards, in the signature red and black of House Nevrakis. Their defensive posture dropped the moment they realized it was me.
One of the men excused himself to alert the lady of the house to our presence. It didn’t take long for Olivia to appear in the doorway. “Liam. What are you doing here? What’s wrong?”
“Liv.” I grabbed both of her hands and brought them to my lips in way of greeting, “Straight to the point, I like that about you.”
Her eyes narrowed, “What do you want?”
“We need a place to lay low and regroup and I have information I think you’ll want.” I told her.
“We?” She glanced behind me.
“Yes, we.” I turned and motioned to Alec, who opened the back door. First Drake, then Riley climbed out. I turned back to gauge Olivia’s expression.
Her lips clamped shut, pressing into a thin line, but she nodded, “Hurry and get inside before you all die of exposure.”
It was technically still fall, but fall in Lythikos was colder than winter in Cordonia. We hurried inside and she ushered us into the sitting room. I glanced over her shoulder at her guards, “Can we count on complete discretion from your men? No one can know we’re here.”
Olivia glanced back at her guards then smirked at me, “No one is more loyal than a Lythikosian Sentinel. They take their secrets to the grave, it’s a point of honor. They would never betray me, or you.”
I nodded curtly. I’d have to trust her on this.
“Now that that’s settled, are you going to tell me why the three of you showed up on my doorstep in the middle of the night?”
“Yes, of course! Please sit.”
She took a seat on the couch opposite the one Riley and Drake had chosen as she regarded me with curiosity.
“You left the palace earlier today, well, last night by now, I suppose, in a hot hurry, after telling me you were withdrawing from the season.”
“That’s right.” She replied cautiously.
“Riley told me you were blackmailed. She also received a threatening letter.”
“I’m aware.”
“I know who was behind both things.”
“Who?” She demanded as her eyes darted from where Drake and Riley were seated, to where I was standing.
“My father.” I said with barely contained rage.
“Ok.” She replied.
“You don’t seem surprised.” I was surprised by her lack of surprise.
Her gaze softened, “Liam, I know you don’t see it but…your father has a reputation for being cold, cruel and underhanded.”
I glanced at Drake, whose face revealed nothing. Drake maintaining a poker face told me everything I needed to know. Apparently, I was the only one that had thought my father still harbored any humanity at all. “I see it now.”
“Ok, so he blackmailed me and set Riley up.” Her eyes flicked over to my beloved, “Yes, I’ve seen the news story. I may not have always been your biggest fan, but I know you weren’t fucking Tariq. Ew.” She shivered a little.
“Thank you, Olivia.” Riley gave her a tentative smile.
Olivia inclined her head slightly then turned back to me, “It’s all over the news that you chose Hana. I assume you plan to continue seeing Riley on the side, while working to clear her name. Am I close?”
“Very.” I was impressed.
“But why are you here? And in the middle of the night?”
I sucked in a breath, glanced at Drake, who gave me a reassuring nod, then I sat down next to Liv and launched into the whole story. How they drug Riley out of the coronation, how Drake and I both tried to stop it, how I was going to choose her anyway, my father’s threat and implied confession about my mother, Marco’s quick thinking and our flight from Ramsford to keep her hidden because I was afraid of how far my father might be willing to go to remove her from my life.
When I was done, Olivia took my hand, unshed tears shining in her eyes, “Oh, Liam! I’m so sorry!”
I wiped at my cheeks again as angry tears threatened, “You understand why we came here?”
“I do.” She glanced at Riley again, “Constantine won’t think to look for her here. I was going to reach out to her later today anyway.”
“You were?” Riley sat up in surprise. She had been tucked under Drake’s arm, head resting on his chest until that moment. She rubbed at her eyes as she yawned.
“Yes. We were both sabotaged, I thought we could join forces and try to figure out who was behind it. But I guess, now we know.”
“Liv.” I tightened my grip on her hand, still resting in mine, “You’re one of my oldest and dearest friends. I need your help now. Will you help us?”
She squeezed my hand back, “Of course I will, Liam. But right now, I think you could all use some sleep.” She looked pointedly at Drake who was sprawled out on the other couch, eyes half closed, head drifting back.
“I’m not asleep!” He protested, “Everyone stop looking at me!”
“It is quite late.” I agreed with Olivia, “Let’s get some sleep and reconvene in the morning.”
“How many rooms will you be needing, exactly?” She asked with a curious glance between the three of us.
“Just one, especially if it’s the jacuzzi suite.” I responded with a fond smile at the memory of my favorite room. Riley and I had consummated our relationship in that room. Drake and I had shared many nights in it as well. That room had a double king bed and Olivia had known about my relationship with Drake for years. We’d spent many nights together in the same room under her roof when we were younger. Lythikos was one place we’d never had to hide what we were to each other.
Her eyes flicked with interest from me to Drake to Riley then back to me, but she didn’t comment on it, just responded with, “Yes, that one was cleaned recently and should have new sheets on the bed. Your guards can take any room down that hallway.”
Riley’s luggage was brought up to the room, but Drake and I had none. I was still in full regalia. So, for comfort, we stripped off our clothes before climbing into bed. Normally having them both naked in bed with me would be too much temptation to resist, but we were all exhausted and had been awake for something close to twenty hours. We fell into bed with Riley in the middle, cradling her between us as we each reached an arm across her and draped it around the other.  The bed was huge, but we cuddled tightly together in the center of it, as if we were afraid of letting go of each other, which, in a very real way, was true. I didn’t think I’d be able to sleep, but fatigue born from the sheer depletion of the days events overtook me quickly and I drifted into a fitful sleep where I was tormented by dreams of my mother as she took her final breaths.
