Clink. Clink. Clink.
Celeste winced at every snap against the bars in her small confines.
“Uh what’s going on Li? Why is she in there?” Drake choked out. Drake's eyes darted around the dimly lit room. He saw Celeste curled up a small cot in a jail cell.
“Shut up Drake.” Olivia snapped.
“Olivia Nevrakis, Drake Walker.. is.. is that you?” Celeste choked out. Liam pressed his finger to his lips to silence them.
“Hello, my dear Little Sister” Liam hissed. Riley could feel the heat radiating off his naked body as she stood next to him.
“Hello brother, I had a feeling my abduction had something to do with you & her,” Celeste pointed in Riley’s direction with her long bony fingers,” when I was left in this filth of country.” Celeste eyed Riley. Celeste always felt a slight connection towards Riley. Not friendship but kinship. They shared demons, not the same demons different traumas but demons all the same. Celeste craved power. Power at any cost no price wasn’t worth paying. Riley craved blood, the blood of the powerful. Blood of those who had wronged her or Liam.
Liam scoffed at her remark. “Cece, of course you know why you’re here?”
“William, You know I had nothing to do with what happened to Leo. Or you. I had no idea anything was going on. Madeline she.. she.. forced me. And Regina & Adelaide.”
“Ya know Cece, I don’t care what lies you tell yourself to clear your conscience. Better yet you're more like me than I like to admit. We don’t have a conscience, do we dear sister? Madeleine’s blood is on your hands.”
“Go cover your dick and get out William, I’m done with this conversation. And take your whore of a wife with you.” Celeste mumbled as she turned to face the wall away from the group standing on the other side of the bars. Riley could barely contain her excitement the more defiant Celeste became.
Riley walked over to a scanner mounted on the wall. She presses her thumb firmly to the scanner. The wall retracted into a much larger room. The room had a large bed in the center and large ornate thrones for the King and Queen. The thrones were positioned against the wall with a perfect view of the entire room. Surrounding the bed were.. torture devices to say the least. Riley grabbed a catch pole and large hook and joyfully walked towards Liam.
“My King,” Riley knelt to one knee in front of her husband holding the pole and hook above her head, her arms outstretched towards him to take the pole from her hands.
Liam leaned down taking the devices from Riley and caught her pouty lips into a passionate kiss. Riley wrapped her arms around his neck and her hands finding the hook in Liam's hand. Still locked in a heated kiss, Riley and Liam rose to their feet. Riley suddenly broke the kiss and snatched the hook free of Liam's hand. In a flash, she put the shaft of the hook through the iron bars and hooked Celeste around her neck pulling her towards them. Riley pulled the pole as hard as she could causing the cable around Celeste’s neck to tighten. With Liam standing behind her with a wicked grin appearing on his face she pulled Celeste flush against the wrought iron bars. Liam pried the pole from Riley’s fingers and brought his face as close as he could to Celeste.
“Sit.” He commanded Olivia and Drake. Both of their faces twisted in fear and confusion. “I understand you’re both curious as to what’s going on. Right now, you will observe and your questions will be answered. Please be assured neither of you will come to any harm at my or Riley’s hand.” In typical Olivia fashion, laughed at Liam’s remark, “Me, harmed by either of you, I'm interested in what game you two are playing.” “Liam, I don’t know about this. Can I at least have my pants back?’ Drake runs his fingers through his thick dark hair nervously. Liam gave Riley the catch pole that held Madeline flush against the cold bars. He sat down on his throne, Olivia and Drake took their seats on a bench on the far side of the room. “Bring her to me, my Queen.” Riley bowed her head, she opened the door to the cage and jerked the catch pole pulling Celeste hard. Riley pulled her infront of Liam and slammed her to her knees on the floor. “What the fuck, you bitch?” Celeste yelled at Riley. “Let me out of here Liam NOW!” She bellowed. Riley drew her hand back to hit Celeste for her outburst “Riley stop.” Riley froze at Liam’s command.
Riley knew, right now her and her husband were not equals. He needed her to do this for him and she was more than willing. He needed to heal and she would heal his wounds. She would save him from himself. She is saving him from his torture and hate. She will fill the void that they left behind. What’s love without obsession?
“Celeste, the more you fight, the worse it will be. Riley come here my Queen.” Riley dropped the pole and went to sit on Liam’s lap. Liam pulled her into a tender kiss. Liam kissed her down her chin to her neck and up to her ear, “Get the knives.” Riley walked over to a safe built into the wall. She typed in the password and scanned her palm. The safe opened and she pulled three small daggers out. Each dagger was adorned with a large jewel.
“Olivia, Drake here.” Riley handed them each a dagger. “These daggers are of importance. Each one has a specific crown jewel encrusted in the hilt. Olivia, red obviously for the scarlet duchess and House Nevrakis. Diamond for you Drake. You’re a true diamond in the rough and a pillar in our reign.” Riley explained. “Riley, Liam I don’t know what to say.” Olivia thanked them as she looked at the dagger in her hand. A large red ruby was encrusted in the hilt along with Nevrakis Justice engraved along the blade.
Liam stood from his throne. “Let’s get on with it. I’m tired of waiting. Riley Rhys, Olivia Nevrakis, and Drake Walker, today I am judge and jury. You are executioner.”
“Jesus Christ Liam, you are such a drama Queen. You’re not going to kill me and neither will these bastards. It’s treason.” Celeste snapped.
Riley couldn’t control her blood lust any longer. She walked over to Celeste and sliced her across her back with her Rhys sapphire encrusted dagger. Riley froze as she watched the blood pour in small estuaries down Celeste’s back. “Fuck you really are a crazy bitch aren’t you!” Celeste screamed in pain. “Liam stop this NOW. I’m the mother of your first born child!” Liam’s lips curled at the sound of mouth forming the words mother. “YOU ARE NOT A MOTHER OF ANY CHILD OF MINE.” His voice boomed. “Regina forced me and so did father. You know that Liam!” “Shut up. You’re a liar.” “Do you think I WANTED to fuck my half brother over and over?” Liam sat down quietly. “Maybe, maybe not. But your natural response spoke otherwise. Every time I fought, you came harder. And what about Savannah?”
Drake's eyebrow quirked at the sound of his sister's name. “Savannah? Li what?” “Tell him Cece. He knows you raped me. But does he know that you are the reason for his sister's death? And his father’s death? That had Jackson Walker executed for false allegations of rape. That you found out about Constantine, our father, abusing Savannah and impregnating her? Instead you helped Regina take her son away.”
“Son?” Drake screamed. “My father… my sister… because of you..” Drake charged at Celeste. Liam grabbed Drake by the throat. “Stop. I’m not finished.” He calmly spoke. “Get the fuck off me Liam. This bitch… she.. she..” “There’s more,” Liam directed his attention back to Celeste who sat in complete silence. “What about Olivia, Celeste?” Olivia's face drained of all color. She knew exactly what Liam was about to say. She had never spoken a word to anyone before. “No Liam, stop. Don’t…” she whispered. Drake eyes his wife. “What’s he talking about Olivia?”
“Liv I’m so sorry. I tried to stop it.” Celeste sobbed. “No, no, Cece tell the truth.” Riley interrupted. Celeste’s tears stopped abruptly as if she could control her tears. A smile formed across her face. “You’re right Riley. I’m lying. I knew what Constantine was doing. Why do you think I was your best friend, Livvy. He said he would fuck the traitor out of you. I guess he didn’t do a very good job.” She shrugged. “None of you are worthy of the crown. You’re weak. You allowed the torture. You weren’t strong enough to fight back. Liam, your own father destroyed you. I stole your illusion of innocence. No one may have touched you Drake but your poor sister and disgraceful Kings Guard of a father got it enough for you. And Liv, you were the most trusting. You are the most weak. You don’t rule Nevrakis with an iron fist. You all got what you deserved.”
Liam returned to his seat on his replicated throne. “Riley. It’s time. We will let Drake and Olivia work out their aggressions. Drake, Liv… you may do as you please to her. Do not kill her and make sure when you are finished she is fully concious.” Drake felt the anger rising inside of him. He felt as if his skin would burst into flames at any moment. He had never felt hatred in his life until this moment, listening to the evil drip from Celeste’s lips. The hatred engulfed him and he understood. He understood Liam in a way he had never before. Drake darted from his place on the other side of the room. He felt himself losing control until he pounced on Celeste. “You stole my family. You murdered them.” Drake screamed as his arm drew back to hit her hard across her jaw. Celeste screamed as Drake pummeled her. “Enough.” Liam’s deep baritone voice boomed through the room. “Sit Drake.” Drake immediately turned to look for Olivia. Celeste lay balled on the floor. She was badly beaten and bloodied from the brutal beating Drake had given her. “Well deserved. That was for my father and my sister. And for my nephew and my mother.” Drake hissed at Celeste. Olivia kissed Drake deeply. Drake poured his anger and relief into the kiss, emotions he never knew he felt for the loss of his family and finally knowing the real truth.
Celeste lay on the floor breathing heavily. She closed her eyes and laid her head back on the cold tile floor. “Princess CeCe..” a smooth yet sharp voice poured into the completely silent room. She felt her breath hitch in her throat. She felt the cold sharp lightly touch the sensitive skin of her throat. She felt the sharp scratch of the dagger glide down her chest between her breaths and stop abruptly at her pubic bone. She felt the dagger press harder until she felt the pierce of her skin and the blood coming to the surface. Celeste’s eyes opened in a flash. “Nevrakis” she hissed. “No need for words.. shhh.” Olivia pressed her finger to Celeste’s words. Olivia continued running the dagger down her thighs drawing the slightest bit of blood.
Liam, Riley and Drake watched in awe of Olivia. Liam felt his cock twitch at the sensual torture taking place in front of him. He took Riley’s hand and placed it gently on himself. She gripped him hard and slowly pumped his shaft. “Bring her in. She’s going to watch.” Riley nodded her and released her husband from her grip. She disappeared into another room.
Olivia continued to make the small cuts over Celeste’s body. Celeste was crying out for the pain to end. Olivia pressed deeper and deeper into each cut. Liam was getting more and more excited as more and more blood pooled on the floor beneath the vile creature before him. He watched as Olivia’s naked body hovered over Celeste, Olivia’s hands were deep red from the blood of Celeste. Liam snapped his head when he heard the muffled gasp. “Regina, join us.” Liam grinned a sinister grin at her before he turned his head back to Olivia and Celeste. Riley pushed Regina down against the wall to sitting position.
“Enough Olivia,” Liam barked.
He stood from his throne and reached for his wife’s hand. Riley placed her hand in his, both of them transforming themselves into their regal Queen and King stance. Olivia slinked back to her place beside Drake. Liam looked at Riley, an unspoken conversation happened between them. Riley knew exactly what to do by her husband’s expression. She knew the depths of his tortured soul better than anyone. She knelt down beside Celeste’s head. She pulled Celestes arms above her head and held them in place. The catch pole cable still wrapped tightly around Celeste’s neck. Liam knelt down between Celeste’s legs.
Regina cried out, “Liam please no.” Liam ignored Regina's pleas. “Did you stop when he begged you to stop Regina?” Riley spoke through gritted teeth. “Did you Celeste? When you forced his seed into you? Did you think he would never come for you?” Liam slammed his cock into Celeste as hard as he could lurching her forward. She let a scream, “No.” “How does it feel to to be the one vulnerable?” Riley whispered into Celeste’s ear as Liam continued to violate her body. “Hold her My Queen.” Liam commanded his wife. Her grip on Celeste’s wriggling body tightened holding her in place. Liam leaned into kiss his wife deeply as he continued his assault on Celeste. “Dagger.” He whispered. Liam could feel his orgasm building within his body not caring about the sandpaper feeling that enveloped his cock. Riley released her grip on Celeste and went to retrieve the Rhys dagger. Liam grabbed a firm hold around Celeste’s neck. The sweat dripping from burned her wounds. She looked at her mother, who was crying watching her daughter's assault, helpless. “This is your fault you fucking cunt.” Celeste whispered, as she gasped for breath at her mother. “Now Riley.” Liam removed his hands from Celeste’s neck, Riley immediately replaced his hands with the dagger. Riley watched her husband’s face twist and contort as he reached his climax. Riley pushed the knife deep across Celeste’s jugular vein. Blood sprayed over Liam as he released himself deep within Celeste. Her body jerked as more blood poured from neck. Liam slowly pulled himself out of Celeste, wincing in pain. They stood both covered in Celeste’s blood. Neither making eye contact with each other.
Regina sobbed at the sight of her daughter's life leaving her body. Celeste became who she was her fault. The twisted monster before her, Liam, she knew was her fault. All of it was her fault. “Liam if this is what you need to lead our country, so be it.” Regina whispered through hushed sobs.
“Our country? MY COUNTRY.” Liam thundered. “It is your fault. Celeste, my father EVERYTHING WAS YOUR FAULT. A child I can’t love like mine and Riley’s children.” A fresh anger coursed through his veins. A rage he needed satiate one last time for himself. He snatched the dagger from Riley’s hand and marched to stand directly in front of Regina. “Look at me.” He commanded Regina. “Liam..” “Your Majesty. You will call me your majesty. I am your King. You tried so hard to remove me from my rightful place. You destroyed my brother, you took everything from me. But I took it back. I have MY Queen. My family. And MY COUNTRY. And you will die here in a foreign country, and forgotten in your own.” Liam plunged the dagger into Regina’s heart. “Today I’m taking back MY power, not for me. But for her and my children. All of them.” Regina whispered, “I’m sorry.” Liam pulled the dagger out of her heart. He plunged it back in again. “DO.” The squish of flesh beneath the dagger was the only sound in the room between Liam’s cries. “NOT” “APOLOGIZE.” Liam had tears running down his blood spattered face. Riley ran over and placed her hand on his, “she’s gone, baby.” She wrapped her arms around him to hold him. He sobbed into Riley’s shoulder.
“I’m so sorry Riley, I love you so much.” “Shh shh.. it’s okay, I love you too.” Riley comforted him.
Drake and Olivia sat in a stunned silence at the scene that just played out in front of them. They could sense a flood of relief flow in the room. The room was covered in blood, two women lay deceased on the floor.. but somehow they sensed a peace. Evil had been exterminated and replaced with a light.
A dim light, is still a light nevertheless.

No Shame
A/N I want to apologize to @lodberg for taking so long with this request. She requested Drake x Olivia with the prompt “Oh please, like this is the worst that I have done.” I mulled over how to work that line in, who would use it, and what the occasion would be. Finally, I came up with something I think works and adds more dimension to my Broken Fairytales universe. There are no warnings, this is pretty tame. As far as a rating goes I would say Teen. Tags are at the end. If you would like to be added or removed from a tag list let me know. I hope everyone enjoys!
No Shame
Ignoring the biting cold that ripped through the thin material of her red silk gown, Olivia raised her chin a notch and through pain glazed eyes watched the retreating for of her long time best friend Liam. She took several deep, calming breathes, determined to not give into the emotions that were threatening to overwhelm her. When she had kissed him in the middle of the opening waltz she had known it was a bad idea, she'd seen the way he looked at the American that was representing House Beaumont. She hadn't been able to stop herself. Desperation had pushed her into making a bold move, a declaration of sorts. If Liam had yelled at her or told her that he was repulsed by her it would have hurt less. He'd quietly led her out on to the balcony where she now stood, hugged her, and then ripped her heart to shreds in the kindest way possible. “I love you Olivia, you're one of my dearest friends, but I'm not in love with you. And you shouldn't be in love with me. You should save that love for someone who can love you in return the way you deserve to be loved. That guy is out there...he just isn't me.” Like a true love sick fool she had asked him if there was someone else. He'd patted her cheek and told her they should go back inside before they froze to death. He'd avoided the question but she'd seen the answer in his eyes. Liam was in love. That sickenly sweet waitress from New York had somehow managed to accomplish in a few short weeks what Olivia had spent a life time working towards: she'd won Liam's heart.
“What were you thinking?”
The sound of Drake's voice cutting through the night caused her slender form to stiffen. He was the last person Olivia wanted to see right now. How many times had he warned her about reading too much into Liam's kindness? How many times had he point blank told her that her dreams of Liam declaring his love were wasted? She'd told herself it was just Drake being an ass, that because they'd been each other's first kiss he was clinging to some delusion of her falling for him. There were several occasions when she'd embarrassed herself by telling Drake he was jealous because he knew he would never be the man Liam was. “Go away,” Olivia seethed, her fists balling up at her sides. The last thing she needed or wanted right now was for Drake to rub in how wrong she'd been, what a fool she was.
“No can do. Liam asked me to make sure you were alright.”
Of course Liam had asked Drake to check on her. Even after breaking her heart, he was trying to do the right thing by making sure she was alright. Olivia wanted to be angry with him for involving Drake but she found she didn't have the energy. “Yes, well as you can see I am perfectly fine.” Even to her own ears her voice sounded wobbly.
“Of course you are. You're Olivia Nevrakis. Nothing gets to you.” The deadpan expression on his ruggedly handsome face, combined with his bored tone, snapped something in her. How dare he! How dare he presume that she was some emotionless rock!
“You know nothing about me,” Olivia snapped, her cheeks flushed with rage and her eyes glittering with indignation.
“I know that what you pulled in that ballroom was a shitty thing to do, even for you.”
Sucking in a sharp breathe, Olivia glared at him. “Oh please, like this is the worst thing I've ever done. I kissed the man that I love. Since when is that a crime?”
Drake stared at her, his expression unreadable. “Do you ever think about anyone but yourself? Liam is going to be King, he's supposed to be treating each of the suitors equally. If any of the other Houses felt he was showing favor towards you or another it could jeopardize their allegance to the Crown...specifically Liam.” Drake shook his head. “I'm a commoner, a nobody, and even I know what a shit move that kiss was. Deep down you know it too. You let your jealousy over Karin cloud your judgment.”
“What does that American nobody have to do with anything?” Olivia demanded, her voice as icy as the snow covered ground that stretched out before them.
Shaking his head, Drake offered her a sympathetic smile. “That American nobody as you call her is probably going to end up your queen so put away the little girl theatrics and act like the lady you're supposed to be. Now, why don't we go back inside so I can enjoy that dish water you served me, Hana, and Karin. I think it's supposed to be lobster bisque. You might want to talk to your chef because for the life of me I can't find any lobster or bisque.”
Olivia let out a guttural growl. On impulse she gathered up a handful of snow and hurled at him. “I hate you,” she spat at him. In that moment it was true. She hated Drake Walker, even more she hated the truths he was telling.
“Love you too, Nevrakis,” he chuckled before leaving her for the warmth of the ballroom.

“Walker, why for the love of god, are trudging through the snow for a damned Christmas tree?” Olivia snapped angrily. “I am a duchess. I can have one of the finest delivered.” “Because Liv, it’s our first Christmas together and this is tradition. Like you said you’re a duchess, one would think tradition would be important to you.” Drake replied happily. “Where is my whiskey drinking grumpy Drake? Riley must be right. You are a marshmallow.” “Only for you Livvy.” Drake chuckled.
They made it to a large forest of Douglas fir pines. Olivia watched as Drake examined each one with such tenacity. He spread his arms up and down and left to right as if he was measuring the size of the tree in his head. Olivia watched thankful no one was around to witness the embarrassment that engulfed her at the sight of Drake. “Just pick one and cut it down.” Olivia grumbled. “It has to be perfect. Picking a tree is a science. Now let me work.” Drake concentrated some more until he narrowed the trees down to three. They were almost identical to Olivia. “Now pick one babe.” Drake whispered as he came behind her and wrapped his strong arms around her taut waist. “The one on the right?” She arched an eyebrow looking back at Drake. “Perfect, I was thinking the same one.” He leaned in and kissed her pouty scarlet lips.
“You’re helping me.” Drake told Olivia. “No, I didn’t want to do this in the first place.” “The scarlet duchess turning down the chance to wield a weapon. You’ve gone soft.” Drake teased. Olivia stomped over snatching the large axe from Drake and lifted to swing to at the trunk of the large tree. “Wait, you're going to miss, let me help.” Drake ran over and stood behind Olivia. He wrapped his strong hands over hers. Drake took in her scent of cranberries and firewood that left him dizzy. They swung the ax, both of them missing their target. Olivia turned in Drake’s arms and planted a heated kiss on his lips. “I love you Olivia.” “I love you too.”
The large tree had been set up in the great living room of Nevrakis Manor. Olivia and Drake had invited the King and Queen to decorate the tree. Unbeknownst to Olivia, Drake had a surprise up his sleeve and Liam and Riley were in on it. Liam, Princess Eleanor and a very pregnant Riley made it to the snowy peaks of Lythikos right on schedule. Five year old Eleanor, leaped from her fathers arms when she was her aunt and uncle waiting to greet them, “Uncle Drake, Aunt Livvy!” “Hello pretty Princess! Merry Christmas!”
Riley and Olivia sat in the sitting room, enjoying a large mug of nog. “How’s Drake handling living here?” Riley sipped her steaming cup. “He’s relishing in the wilderness. He made me go with him to cut down a damn tree.” Riley avoided eye contact. Olivia raised an eyebrow at her friend. “What do you know?” “What...what are you talking about Olivia?” Liam overheard the conversation as he rounded the corner into the living room. He knew his wife couldn’t keep a secret to save her life. “My Queen, Duchess.” Liam nodded to Olivia. “It’s Olivia, Liam.” She rolled her eyes at Liam. “It’s time for tree decorating and Ellie is over excited.” Liam helped his wife to her feet and they made their way towards Drake. Ellie was on his shoulders helping him fan out the branches of the tree. A smile spread across Olivia’s face at the sight of Drake playing with the Princess.
They laughed as Liam and Drake took turns lifting Eleanor to hang ornaments on the tree. The tree quickly filled with ornate and priceless heirlooms. It glittered in the moonlight of the evening. The twinkling lights lit up to the beat of Christmas melodies playing softly in the background. The group enjoyed watching the fully decorated tree and the crackle of the fire in the fireplace. Princess Eleanor quickly fell asleep between her parents on the sofa. Liam carried her to a guest room.
Drake felt the nervousness rise in his throat. He fiddled with the beautiful red diamond ring only fit for his duchess in his pocket. He stood rubbing his sweaty palms on his jeans. “Olivia.” He pulled her to her feet. “There’s one last ornament for you.” Olivia felt her quicken. He handed her a small gift box wrapped with gold and scarlet ribbon. Olivia side eyed her friends with huge grins on their faces. “What is this Drake?” “Just open it.” She unwrapped the box and slowly opened it. She looked up to see Drake had dropped to one knee. Tears filled her glorious emerald eyes. She pulled the ornament from the box, Will you marry me?, was etched on the glass ornament. “Drake, what’s this..” “marry me Olivia Nevrakis. Make me the happiest man in Cordonia.”
“Yes Drake I will marry you.” Drake placed the glittering red diamond ring on her finger. The tears flowed from her eyes at the sight of the monstrous red jewel encased in smaller diamonds. “How do you know me so well.” Olivia choked out. Drake pulled Olivia into a passionate kiss, vibrant red hair flowed through his fingers that he placed on the back of her head. “Because I love you so much.” Drake whispered in Olivia's ear.
They married the following Christmas with all of Lythikos watching. Liam officiated the union. “I promise to love you unconditionally, be your rock and your partner in crime when necessary.” Drake recited. “I promise to always stock your favorite whiskey, to hold your hand when everyone is watching, and listen to your words even when you're wrong.” “I now pronounce you, husband and wife, Duke Walker and Duchess Walker-Nevrakis of Lythikos. Long may you reign!” Liam pronounced. The crown erupted into cheers at the sight of their Duke and Duchess sharing their first kiss.

Uncommon Part 2/4
Unplanned Doesn’t Mean Unwanted
The steady ticking of the antique gold clock on the fireplace mantel, mixed with Penelope’s hyena-like giggling and Kiara’s annoying French prattle, was enough to drive Olivia Nevrakis mad. On a good day, she wore a frosty smile and made passive aggressive quips at their expense. Today was not a good day. For the umpteenth time she had woken up to a room that wouldn’t stop spinning and a rebellious stomach. The first time it had happened, she blamed it on too much chocolate and not enough sleep after Riley and Hana guilt tripped her into hot cocoa and all night wedding planning. The second and third times it happened, she’d made a quick trip to and from Lythikos, so she had assumed it was travel exhaustion and not eating properly. That morning she had run out of excuses. She’d gone to bed on time, eaten properly, hadn’t traveled any further than the palace gardens, and her queasy stomach prevented her from drinking anything stronger than fruit infused water. There were only two plausible explanations. Either she had some sort of weird life sucking disease or she was pregnant. So, she did what any self respecting lady in her situation would do: she bribed a servant into buying a pregnancy test. The little purple and white plastic stick instantly killed all hopes of a life sucking disease. Before she could process anything, Riley had shown up, with Hana in tow, so the trio could walk down to afternoon tea with the Queen Mother.
“I don’t understand why she’s giggling, nobody said anything remotely humorous,” she heard Hana whispering to Riley. It was on the tip of Olivia’s tongue to say that some women thought acting like a brainless twit who giggled all the time was the way to attract a man but she couldn’t work up the energy. Her focus was on the plastic stick hidden in her make up bag. An old, familiar tightening in her chest set in. It was like she was sixteen all over again. At sixteen, she had been so desperate for love she’d believed every pretty lie a visiting diplomat’s son had thrown her way. Her aunt had called her a fool, and rightly so. Once the boy had his fun, he lost interest. Olivia had been so heart broken she’d actually turned to her aunt for guidance. Her aunt’s idea of 'help’ had been a trip to a spa in Switzerland. The rumors that circulated while they were gone were the stuff of every teenage girls nightmare. The vast majority of them had started with Drake’s sister. Savannah had been the one to start the pregnancy rumors, as well as the one where Olivia’s trip to Switzerland had been for an abortion. Olivia still hadn’t forgiven her for that.
“It’s Penelope, what do you expect,” Riley murmured back, the smile never leaving her pink glossed lips. It was a trick Olivia herself had taught her. A lady could get away with saying anything they pleased so long as they did it with a smile on their face. Wanted to mock someones atrocious outfit? Tell them how hideous they looked with a smile and every laughed at your 'teasing.’ Sleeping with your best friend while leading on a King and his best friend? Keep a smile while saying love got the best of you and all was forgiven. “She laughs at everything.”
“You’re right,” Hana sighed before, in sync with the other ladies, she took a sip from the delicate, gold rimmed cup in her right hand. “Sometimes though,” she leaned closer to Olivia and Riley, “I want to tell her that she’s the only one who thinks her poodle stories are cute. Is that mean? It’s mean isn’t it?”
“If you ever work up the nerve to tell her that poodles suck make sure you do it with a smile,” Olivia suggested, forcing herself to take another sip.
“A smile and a smack across her smug little face,” Riley muttered, her blue eyes narrowing. Ah yes, there was no love lost between Riley and the poodle loving airhead from Portavira. Olivia was almost impressed by Penelope’s little role in Riley’s scandal. The water works and pleas for forgiveness had ruined any chance for that. The temptation to tell Penelope that if she was going to be a shark, she needed to be a shark, not turn into a guppy at the last minute. Whatever. It made no never mind to Olivia. She could care less what Penelope did or didn’t do. Seeing the disdain on Riley’s face whenever the other woman came around was another matter. It was only a matter of time before Cordonia’s newest Duchess lost her cool and went for Penelope’s jugular.
“Oh no! I could never tell her that,” Hana gasped, her almond shaped eyes widening. She hadn’t said she wouldn’t slap the chit, Olivia noted with amusement. For the next two hours, Olivia sipped lukewarm orange pekoe tea and nibbled cucumber sandwiches while pretending to be interested in the mundane conversations going on around her, most of which were about whatever charities were the most popular. The only interesting bits were when Hana or Riley would whisper some passive aggressive remark about one of the other ladies; usually Penelope or Kiara, with the occasional jab at Madeleine’s expense. Normally, Olivia would interject herself into the conversation again but at the moment she didn’t trust herself to speak again. The more she spoke, the greater the risk she would crack and unburden herself, and that just wouldn’t do. Oh Riley would be understanding and Hana would be supportive, but Olivia wasn’t ready for that. She still had to face Drake. And Drake deserved to know before anyone else.
Finally, she thought when the Queen Mother announced that she would be retiring to her rooms and the ladies were free to go or mingle at their leisure. Ignoring Riley and Hana’s protests, Olivia chose the former. She needed to think, to sort out what she was going to do. First step, remembering that she wasn’t some scared teenager or without means to support a child on her own. Second step, accepting that Drake might not be very pleased with the outcome of their one night stand. On more than one occasion she’d wanted to tell him where he could stick his looks of disgust. Nobody had forced him to have sex with her and, other than one attempt to talk to him about their lack of protection that had resulted in him walking off before she could speak, Olivia had kept her word on it being a one time occurrence with no strings attached. She pinched the bridge of her nose, grimacing at the thought of telling him about the predicament she was in. This isn’t just your problem, she reminded herself as she walked back to her room. It’s his problem too. And, damn it, he can help deal with the consequences.
Her fingers shook as she removed the pregnancy test from her make up bag. The two lines were still there. If anything, they had become more pronounced. There was no denying it. She was pregnant. Letting out a string of curses she chunked her make up bag at her bedroom door. Cosmetics scattered across the rug, her favorite tube of lipstick rolling under the wardrobe. Her vision blurred for a moment as tears threatened to well. In true Nevrakis fashion, she concentrated on warding them off before reaching for her phone. You can do this, Olivia, she told herself as she pulled up Drake’s contact information. Before she lost her nerve, she sent him a text asking him to meet her by the fountain in the maze. She waited several minutes, her heart pounding, and then tossed her phone aside when no response came. Screw him, she thought, dropping to her hands and knees on the rug, determined to retrieve her favorite lipstick. She could do this on her own. It would cause a bit of a scandal at first but eventually someone would do something more shocking than having a baby out of wedlock with the King’s best friend.. Her fingers barely brushed the tube when there was sharp knock on her door. “Be right there,” she called. It was probably Riley and Hana. The pair just wouldn’t leave her alone. She scowled when her door opened, ready to give them a piece of her mind. “Do you mind?”
“This isn’t the maze,” Drake’s voice filled her room and sent a ripple of apprehension through her. He couldn’t respond to a text, but he could show up uninvited to her room. Unbelievable.
Wrapping her fingers around the tube of lipstick, Olivia pulled her arm out from under the wardrobe and tried to rise to her feet with as much dignity as possible. “I don’t keep appointments with people who aren’t courteous enough to confirm,” she retorted coolly. Her gaze darted to the bed, where the positive test still lay out in plain sight. Shit! Maybe, if she was quick enough, she could reach it before he seen it. Or maybe not, she grimaced, watching the blood drain from his face, his eyes visibly fixated on the test.
“Something you want to tell me?” Drake asked, his voice hoarse.
Olivia let out a resigned sigh, her fingers nervously plucking at the lemon colored fabric of her skirt. “I’m pregnant.” Saying the words out loud felt a bit like the first drop on a roller coaster. Her stomach flipped. Her heart raced. And she anxiously waited for what was, inevitably, about to come next. Minutes ticked by, neither of them speaking. She let out another sigh. “You’re not going to ask if I’m certain or…” she hesitated, “if you’re the father?” She wouldn’t blame him if he did. While she knew that she didn’t sleep around, Drake didn’t.
A thunderous look crossed Drake’s handsome features. “I’m not that big of an asshole Olivia and we weren’t exactly careful.”
“It could be wrong.” Walking over to the bed, she picked up the test, her eyes fixed on those two damning lines. “They’re not always right.” Even as the words left her mouth, Olivia knew the test wasn’t wrong. She had all the symptoms. Missed period. Morning sickness. Tender breasts. Exhausted all the time. The test just put it all into perspective.
“Most of the time they are.” Drake scrubbed a hand down his face. “Fuck,” he muttered, his gaze dropping to the floor before darting back up to her face. “So…now what? Are we keeping it?”
“I’m keeping the baby, yes,” she said coolly, raising her chin a notch. “Whether or not you choose to be in their life is entirely up to you.” If he walked away, it would be his loss, Olivia told herself. She couldn’t see Drake doing that though. He wasn’t the sort to walk away from an obligation. Did she want her child viewed as an obligation though? Her aunt had always viewed her that way, an obligation she had to bear, and she’d had no qualms about reminding Olivia of that every single chance she got. Would Drake be that way? And what happened when he met someone and fell in love? Would his future wife accept a child that wasn’t her own?
“Of course I’m going to be in their life,” Drake snapped, prowling to and fro in front of her wardrobe. He reached up, ran his fingers through his hair, and let out a curse. “It won’t be easy for you, you know that right?” He shot her a hard look. “The ladies are going to make your life miserable. Not just because you’re having a baby before marriage but because its my kid. You sure you want that, Olivia?”
“Do you think I give two fucks what those stuck up bitches think?” Olivia curled her lips in disdain. The only 'ladies’ she had any use for were Riley and Hana, which was probably why Riley kept insisting they were friends. As for the rest of them, well, they could all take a flying leap off a cliff as far as Olivia was concerned. The whole lot of them were useless, simpering fools that sat around waiting for some man to decide they would make a worthwhile wife. Olivia waited for no one. She could, would, and had saved herself. She would raise her son or daughter to have that same mentality. They would be a Nevrakis, the next Duke or Duchess of Lythikos, after all.
“No,” Drake chuckled, “not really.” He let out another sigh and dropped into the winged back chair near the fireplace, a serious look stiffening his features. “So…how are we going to do this?”
Olivia bit her lower lip, uncertain how to answer. She furrowed her brow, paced a bit, and then sat on the edge of her bed, facing Drake. “By 'this’ you mean co-parenting, correct?” Drake gave her a curt nod. “Right. Well, I’m not sure.” There were so many things to consider. His life was in the Capitol, while hers was in Lythikos. And, as the next Nevrakis heir, there was the matter of their last name. Olivia knew Drake well enough to know he was going to blow a gasket when he heard that they child would have to bear the Nevrakis last name, not Walker. They could hyphenate it the way her parents had, but she wasn’t certain even that would appease Drake.
“You’re not sure,” Drake repeatedly slowly, his eyes narrowing. “If you think you’re going to cut me from this baby’s life-”
“If I had planned on cutting you from this child’s life, I wouldn’t have told you I was pregnant to begin with,” Olivia interrupted, her voice laced with the annoyance that was starting to course through her veins. She could feel the vein in her left temple starting to tick. She’d known Drake was a stubborn ass but this was ridiculous.“Is this how things are going to be for the next eighteen years?”
A dark glare filled Drake’s eyes, his jaw clenched. “If by 'things’ you mean me standing up for my rights as a father, then yeah, this is how things are going to be.”
Closing her eyes, Olivia forced herself to take several deep, cleansing breathes. Out with the toxic, murderous thoughts starting to form in her mind. In with peace, calm, and understanding for the frustrating man that had fathered her child. Her hazel eyes snapped open. Who the hell was she trying to kid? Peace, calm, and understanding were not natural to her. Nor was the surly look on Drake’s face inspiring those auras. “I’m getting really tired of the defensive attitude Drake. I don’t deserve it nor do I appreciate it. I understand that this situation isn’t ideal but taking your frustrations out on me isn’t going to solve anything.” She paused, letting out another huff of air. “If all you’re to do is twist my words and make accusations based on your fear instead of fact, then I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I don’t need, nor do I want, the stress of arguing with you over moot points.”
Drake let out a long, weary sigh, one of his large hands reaching up to push a chunk of dark hair off his face. “You’re right,” he admitted. “Just try to see things from my point of view. We’re not in a relationship and as a noble, you hold all the cards. There’s also the fact that we can barely stand each other.”
“There you go making assumptions again,” Olivia shook her head. This was not going to work. She’d been a fool to think she could have a logical discussion with Drake. He could never look past her title, could never let go of the grudge he had against nobility. “You’re the one whose always made it perfectly clear that I wasn’t worthy of your time.” And there was also the issue of the rumors his sister had started when they were teenagers.
“You sure about that,” Drake challenged. “I seem to recall several occasions where Savannah and I were intentionally excluded from parties hosted at your estate.”
“Do you really want to go there Drake?” Ice dripped from Olivia’s voice. “You know exactly why your sister was no longer welcome.” Even now she heard the occasional whisper about the Duchess of Lythikos and the child she’d supposedly aborted at the age of sixteen. Every time she heard it, it was all Olivia could do to keep quiet. With every fiber of her being she wanted to scream that throwing her virginity away on some asshole and then taking a small vacation with her aunt because she was heartbroken didn’t mean she’d been pregnant or had an abortion. None of that had any place in the discussion she was trying to have with Drake though. Her focus needed to remain on the very real pregnancy she was dealing with. That they were dealing with.. “Look, I don’t want to fight about this. As I said before, I understand this isn’t ideal and that you might not be happy with the situation. I just want us to do what’s best for this child.”
“That’s all I want as well.” Drake rose from the chair, a lock of his dark hair flopping over one eye. The urge to reach out and brush it back was equal parts annoying and confusing. “I guess there’s only one thing to do.”
“Is this the part where you try to act all noble and ask me to marry you?” The words left Olivia’s mouth before she could stop them. Heat rose in her cheeks, staining the ivory skin a brilliant strawberry. What had she been thinking? Of course Drake wasn’t going to propose. By his own admission he could barely stand to be around her. Well, at least when he was sober and clothed. There was also the little issue of him still not believing that his sister had spread those rumors about her years ago.
“No,” chuckled Drake, an amused look shining in his dark eyes. “This is the part where I ask you to dinner.”
“Dinner?” Some of the tightness in her chest started to ease. He hadn’t taken offense to her slip of tongue and he looked more at ease.
“Yes. Dinner. You know, that meal you eat in the evening.” This was a side of Drake that Olivia was semi-familiar with; she’d seen him banter with Hana and Riley plenty but never experienced it herself. Unless she counted hostile exchanges where one of them stormed off.
“I know what dinner is, Drake. I’m just surprised you’re asking.” Surprised. Shocked. Uncertain how to respond. It would help to know what sort of dinner invitation he was issuing. Was it a sit down to discuss their child’s future? Was him being hungry and just not wanting to eat alone? Or…her pulse skipped a beat…was he asking her to dinner?
“People need to see us together,” he explained. “I don’t want them knowing this baby was the result of a one night stand. Life’s going to be hard enough for this kid…a commoner for a dad…a duchess for a mom…the least we can do is pretend we have something going on.”
The disappoint that filled Olivia wasn’t something she wanted to explore. Drake had the right of it. Life for this child would not be easy. And as much as she didn’t care what people said about her, she didn’t want rumors tainting her child. The fact that Drake had thought of that and figured out a solution made her realize that he was already invested in their child. “You’re going to be a great dad,” she said softly.
Surprise flickered across Drake’s face. “Really?” Olivia nodded. A wide grin broke out across Drake’s face. “It means a lot that you think that. I…I think you’re going to be a great mom.”
“Of course I am,” Olivia quipped. Silently, she prayed that her uncertainty wasn’t present in her voice. For all her bravado, the idea of motherhood scared the hell out of her. She had no memories of her own mother and her aunt hadn’t been very maternal. What if she screwed up? What if the child hated her and loved Drake more? So many fears. So many things that could go wrong. Thank God she had eight months to plan. In the meantime, she needed to focus on these pretend dinner dates Drake was proposing.
