           You were exhausted but couldn’t sleep. The case had been weighing on everyone, especially you and Hotch. You tossed and turned in your bed, glancing at the clock. It was nearly midnight, and sleep still evaded you. With a sigh, you pushed the blankets off and stepped out onto your balcony, hoping the cool night air might calm your agitated mind.

           As you slid the glass door open and stepped out, you noticed the soft glow from the balcony next to yours. There, standing quietly, was Hotch. His posture was tense as he leaned on the railing, but the lines on his face softened slightly when he spotted you.

           “What's got you up this late agent?” he asked, his voice low and soothing against the quiet hum of the night.

           You shook your head. “Too much on my mind,” you admitted, leaning on the railing too. “You?”

           “Same here.”

           A comfortable silence fell between you both, distant traffic lulling you into a shared sense of calm. The sight of Hotch, looking slightly more relaxed, made something inside you soften.

           Without thinking much, you asked, “Can I come over?”

           His brow raised slightly in surprise, but then he nodded. “Yeah, of course.”

           You slipped back inside your room, grabbed your keycard, and made your way to Hotch’s door. He opened it before you even knocked, standing aside to let you in.

           “Hope you don’t mind,” you said softly, suddenly feeling a little shy. “I just… didn’t want to be alone.”

           Hotch shook his head with a small smile. “It's okay.”

           You settled on the edge of his bed, the atmosphere easy between you. You started talking - about the case, about your lives, about nothing in particular. It felt good, like a weight lifting, just to talk to someone who got it. And to see your boss in a new light. At some point hunger struck, you suggested ordering room service, and soon enough, the two of you were sharing late-night snacks, the tension from the case dissolving into soft laughs and quiet conversations.

           Time passed, and before you realized it, you were both lying back on the bed, the conversation fading as exhaustion finally crept in. You weren’t sure who drifted off first, but when you woke up hours later, the sun just beginning to rise, you found yourself curled up beside Hotch, his arm loosely draped around you.

           It was peaceful. Safe.

           Neither of you said a word as you lay there, but the unspoken understanding between you said everything.

There’s a lot of commotion at the Hemming’s house when Ashton enters the door. Oliver is crying as he follows you around the living room, his arms up wanting to be held. You’re talking softly to him as you pick up toys. Posy is in the kitchen with Petunia trying to teach her tricks by dangling treats. Petunia is barking loudly. It’s Saturday so Lily is over by Cory and Ella’s. 

“Lovie, have you seen my wallet?” Luke appears from the hallway then swiftly scoops Oliver into his arms. He quiets a little but is still reaching for you.

“Should be where you always put it,” you sigh folding up a fuzzy plane blanket, “the kitchen counter. When is–oh! Ashton, how long have you been here?”

The three of you face Ashton, Oliver’s sniffling and rubbing at his eyes.

“Not too long,” Ashton shakes his head with a smile. “You remember me and Posy are spending the day together, right?”

“Of course we did! Sorry–” you take Oliver from Luke and he nestles into your neck– “it’s been a crazy morning.”

“Hey bug,” Luke calls to Posy, “did you see who’s here?”

“Huh? UNCA ASH!”

She drops the treats for Petunia who gobbles them up and Posy runs towards Ashton. He lifts her in his arms for a big hug, her little arms wrapped around his neck tightly. 

“Hi little one, are you ready for our adventure day?”

“Yes!”

“Go get your shoes, Pose,” you tell her. You’re bouncing Oliver and rubbing at his back. He hasn’t been feeling well and has been signing ‘hold me’ for the last week. He also has been tugging at his ears so you think he has an ear infection but you have to wait until Monday to go see the doctor. 

Ashton sets Posy down and she runs to her room.

“Does she have a bag?” Ashton asks.

“Yeah. It’s got extra clothes, some snacks, and her water bottle,” Luke moves into the kitchen to grab her red backpack. “Which beach are you going to?”

“Big Rock. They have cool tide pools she’ll like and we can collect rocks and shells.”

“She’ll love that,” you smile and kiss the side of Oliver’s head.

“Little guy’s still not feeling well?” Ashton pouts approaching you. He cocks his head to look at his nephew then rubs his curls atop his head. 

“No, so he’s extra cuddly,” you hum.

“I’m sure mama’s cuddles help a ton, huh buddy? How’re you doing?”

“Great! I’ve got a ton of energy all of a sudden so I’ve been cleaning the house.”

“Luke says you’ve got the crib set up in Oli’s room?”

“Yeah,” you sigh. “With my due date happening in a little less than a month it’s too late to house hunt. Crystal keeps sending me links though so maybe after a few months we can go look at some.”

“And he’s still not talking?”

“Not yet. His hearing is fine, so that’s good. But with him being a preemie, he’s just taking a little bit more time,” you smile and stroke his cheek lovingly. 

“I’m ready! I have my matching hat!” Posy announces and she plops her green bucket hat on her head. She always stole Ashton’s. She also has her own small backpack, some books, and a bright blue mesh bag. In her excitement some of her books fell to the floor.

“You don’t need your whole room, little one,” Ashton giggles then makes his way over to his niece to help her pick up the books. 

“They’re books of rocks and shells! And I got a rock collecting bag,” she explains holding up the blue mesh bag.

“She’s been looking forward to your adventure day for weeks,” you smile. Your voice is softer now because Oliver has fallen asleep.

“I’ve been looking forward to it, too,” he smiles down at Posy. “Let’s take two books, okay? Which ones do  you want?”

She selects the one about shells and a Bluey book.

“Perfect. Ready to go, munchkin?” Ashton asks.

He gathers her things while she says goodbye to you and Luke. Once she’s settled in her carseat Ashton presses play on her favorite playlist and starts the thirty minute drive to the beach. Posy fills him in about school and her karate class and how Oliver can sign her name now.

“Where’s Auntie Kay?” she asks kicking her feet.

“She’s away taking pictures for her job, she’ll be home soon.”

“Can we have a sleepover again?”

“That’s a great idea and I know Auntie Kay will love it. We’re almost to the beach, Po.”

When they arrive, they use the bathroom first and then carry all of their beach belongings. Ashton mainly has everything until they find a spot in the sand. It’s a nice warm day with a cool breeze from the ocean.

“Can I take off my shoes?” Posy asks while he weighs down the blanket with some rocks.

“The water might be a little cold,” Ashton warns.

“I’m tough,” she plants her hands on her hips and has a little scowl on her face. 

Ashton can’t help but laugh because she looks exactly like you and Luke right now.

“Okay, we’ll try it. But if it is too cold we’ll both put our shoes back on. Deal?”

“Okay!”

With her mesh bag slung over her shoulders, niece and uncle walk along the sand holding hands. They collect a lot of shells and rocks and Posy loves wading into the water feeling the sand squish between her toes. They read her books together and enjoy their snacks while watching birds fly across the water. 

She even steals his phone and they have a small photoshoot with each other. Posy places her shells on his forearms so they’re in the circles of his moons and takes a picture of that as well. After a few hours they walk along the beach again.

“What’s that?” she gasps suddenly stopping.

“What’s what?”

“That noise!” 

She lets go of his hand and runs to a small forested area. Ashton runs after her, eying the place to make sure nothing dangerous was hidden inside. He hears something that sounds like chirping.

“It’s a nest!” she gasps and gets on her knees to crawl inside.

“Posy!” Ashton tries to grab her feet but she’s in the underbrush and he gets on all fours to follow her. “You need to be careful, you don’t know what’s in here.”

“Look! It’s baby birds!” 

The two of them gaze at a nest that is clearly broken. There’s only one small bird inside and Ashton knows it’s a little duckling. His eyes gaze around to see broken shells and racoon prints. The one small duck is chirping softly beneath the sand, sticks and leaves. 

“Hi buddy,” Posy greets softly and picks him up in her small hands. “Look, Unca Ash!” 

“Very nice,” Ashton says. He’s distracted trying to find the mother duck but it’s silent. Was the duckling abandoned? “Let’s go back to the blanket.”

They scramble out of the brush and back onto the sand, Posy is still holding the duckling. 

“He likes me!” she smiles gleefully as the duck fits comfortably in her hold. “We need to take care of him.”

“I don’t–” 

“Please? He’s only a baby,” Posy pouts up at him with puppy eyes. Ashton sighs.

“Okay. But let’s take him back to my house, okay?”

“Yay!” She skips away and Ashton has a fleeting thought of yours and Luke’s faces if Ashton brought back a duckling to their house.

Posy found things around his house to put the duckling in, an old fish tank with newspaper on the bottom and a small dish of water. While he put away the beach things she went out in the backyard in search of worms to feed the duck. To Ashton’s astonishment, the little yellow bird followed her around in the grass. He then searched on his phone what to do to take care of a duckling but stopped so he could take video of the duck following Posy.

According to Google, ducks can imprint on humans if they’re the first thing they see and that little duck followed Posy everywhere. Ashton had her pose for pictures which he sent to you and Luke. 

“I love him, Unca Ash,” Posy giggles and nuzzles her nose against the ducks soft fuzzy head.

“What are you going to name him?”

“Philbert.”

“That’s the best name ever.”

Little did he know how deep and true the imprinting would be because when it was time to take Posy home, Philbert went ballistic in the fish tank. Ashton hoped you and Luke wouldn’t be too mad about bringing home a stray duck.

Ps. I AM OBSESSED WITH HOME I just finished chapter 33 (I’m always amazed at how much you can fit into each chapter like Lotor, the black lion, then Shiro figuring stuff out and it all just flows so well and is still so incredibly entertaining, I want to scream) I think Shiro seeing an outside perspective of his waking up scene might have actually ended me for real. AND BEFORE THAT the lance in the black lion scene had me freaking out along side him. Idk how you keep doing in Erin, it should be illegal to be this good at writing.

I'm team both because there's on one hand, Jason coming back and not looking anything like who he was because he's a giant, and he's covered in these scars,,, and like, him constantly having to see the proof that it happened to him? It being a fuel for the hurt?

(I have a fic concept where Bruce pieces together that it's Jason because of the scars, because he went over Jason's autopsy and he held Jay's body, and he memorized the hurt in his grief and guilt. And he sees the pieces together and everything stops when he realizes that's that's his baby? His boy? Littered in scars?)

But on the other hand,,, Jason losing the scars on his knees from falling as a kid. The little mark on his eyebrow where he was being silly playing with Catherine and he bumped his head and Catherine kissed the boo boo away? Jason not having the small marks of the kid he was? Jason not having the proof that It happened to him, when his mind got all twisted up and he didn't exactly know what was and wasn't real in the first place? The developed feelings in the early months of 2019, they didn’t speak on them though.

They were concerned like “Why am I catching feelings for my friend? S/he’s suppose to be JUST my friend”

I mean Rosalie always thought Jihoon was cute but that was silly child crushes, but this was adult crushing and they did not know how to act around each other

You can see in there behind the scenes videos that they kind stray away from each other but still stay in eye sight — yet they don’t speak to each other.

Same thing with Going Seventeen episodes, they only interacted when they HAD to because they would get flustered and not know how to act around each other.

The announcement of feelings didn’t come to light until Rosie’s birthday.

They shared a kiss that night

It was late and Jihoon was the last to wish the girl Happy Birthday, honestly Rosie was sick of them tip toeing around each other and confronted him head on

“Why are you avoiding me? Did I do something to you?”

“No you didn’t do anything Rosebud”

“Then why are you avoiding me?”

“Well you’re avoiding me too!”

“But you started it! I didn’t want to push your boundaries!”

“Well maybe I want my boundaries pushed!”

AND BAM ROSALIE LAYED ONE ON HIM!!ahhhh my babies.

Honestly that settled their feelings for each other but Jihoon did run out of her room and run to his like a little scaredy cat.

That did hurt Rosie’s feelings a lot, especially when he went back to avoiding her and not wanting to speak up about their feelings for each other.

Rosie confided about everything that was going on to Seungkwan.

The older boy listened and gave clean advice. Just because of his feelings didn’t align with her own doesn’t mean he was going to sabotage what she was feeling for someone else.

Seungkwan told her to wait it out, let Jihoon come to her. They both know how he is when it comes down to talking about his feelings. They both know he would rather ignore it than confront it. He told her to just act normal with him, if he wants to ignore it that doesn’t mean she had to.

And that’s what she did and it kinda felt like they were back to normal? Woozi slowly came out of shell once again and acted the same way he did with her before but the lingering touches and side glances at her were noticeable, but only to them.

During New Years of 2019 though is when everything came to a head and was finally confronted.

Jihoon FINALLY asked the girl to be his stating that he wants to go in the new year as the luckiest man

Rosalie was over the moon and forgot that there was camera all around and just smacked a kiss on him.

It didn’t really matter to either of them though because whatever were to happen they would go through it together, as one.

I also wouldn’t say Woozi the jealous type to be honest?

I feel like they both are secure in their relationship and know that they have to act a certain way with fans for fan service.

That doesn’t mean Woozi doesn’t side eye the male fans that express that Rosalie is exactly their type at fansign

Jihoon does definitely joke with the girl and say “Oh how’s your other boyfriends doing?”

Rosie will be so confused and pout at him like “Huh? I have another boyfriend?”

Jihoon wouldn’t be able to finish the joke without laughing and covering Rosie’s face with kisses and saying “Nevermind Nevermind, just give me love.”

They are actually my favorite couple AHHHHHH!!!!

It takes Robin's foot connecting with his ankle to make Steve realize he was starring.

At Eddie, yet again.

Something that he had been doing a lot over the last few months since everything with Vecna and the Upside Down. Since Steve and Robin had managed to drag Eddie back from the brink, fighting off inky tendrils of death as Dustin led the way while Nancy brought up the rear, shot gun in hand.

Between the four of them, Eddie had actually made it. Torn up and missing about two liters of blood, but alive.

Of course, navigating the aftermath of the earthquakes and the loss of half the town had actually made it easier to avoid the murder charges that had been lobbed at Eddie.

Especially with the way Lucas, Erica, and Max had sworn up and down that Jason had been the one responsible for all of the murders, that they had narrowly escaped becoming his final victims.

And who could argue with the evidence, certainly not Jason after the surge of white hot energy that split the earth had finished with him.

So with Eddie's newfound freedom and the inability to argue with Dustin's insistence that he had been officially adopted into the party, his presence in their lives had become something that Steve looked forward to.

It was nice having someone else his age in the group. Robin was his other half of course, his soul mate, but it was nice having another guy to hang out with, and of course it wasn't because of anything else, Robin.

He let it slip one time that Eddie had nice eyes and was easy to talk to and, do you think he's seeing anyone Bobby, and suddenly Steve is accused of having a crush. Of all things!

Steve feels two fingers suddenly pinch at the outside of his thigh and has to suppress a loud yelp as he bats Robin's hands away from his leg with a glare.

She rolls her eyes and gives him a knowing look before turning back to the conversation.

"Take Stevie over here," Eddie says around the joint between his lips. He takes a long drag before passing it over to Argyle and Steve can't help but watch, transfixed, as the smoke billows out from his nose like a dragon.

"I can guarantee you that he's seen the ocean before while the rest of us land-locked lubbers will probably never get the pleasure," Eddie continues with a wink and kicks his leg up onto the coffee table in Steve's basement.

Argyle blows out a long puff of smoke, he's leaned back against the couch with his head tipped up towards the ceiling, "thats wild man," he says with a laugh in his voice, he doesn't react when Jonathan snorts and takes the joint from his hand.

"Seriously?" Jon asks after a minute, "dude, we lived in California, we literally went to the beach all the time?"

Robin and Nancy both laugh at the noise of recognition that Argyle makes while Eddie rolls his eyes.

"Okay but for everyone else who didn't have the benefit of local geography," Eddie says, gesturing at the girls and himself, "we will be cursed to never feel the sand between our toes and all that shit".

Robin quirks an eyebrow and takes a swig of beer from the can in her hands, the sleeve of her denim jacket brushes against Steve's arm as she moves to set the can back on the coffee table.

They're the only two seated on the floor, Steve having given up the couch so everyone else could be comfortable and Robin couldn't, in good conscience, let her best friend sit by himself.

God he loves her, Steve thinks as he shoots her a soft smile.

He's never had someone that loves him so openly, so unapologetically as Robin does.

Not even when his parents were home for more than a few days a year did they show him the same kind of care that she had in their short time of knowing one another.

Sure, they teased each other, Robin had even made a new scoreboard for his failed attempts at flirting at Family Video --this one with a new section after Steve quietly admitted to her that they had even more in common than they had realized earlier.

But Robin was there, in a way that he hadn't really had from anyone else in years.

"I don't know how you deal with it Buckley," Eddie huffs. He's grinning widely at Robin and Steve, reaching to take the joint back from Jonathan.

"What," she says dryly, "Steve? He grows on you".

"He does," Nancy insists loudly from Jonathan's other side, her cheeks are flushed and her eyes a little glassy. Jonathan lifts his arm to tuck her against his side with a fond grin, he meets Steve's gaze after a minute and mouths, 'still a lightweight,' which makes Steve snort.

"This!" Eddie barks out, lifting a ringed hand to gesture around the basement sitting room, "look there's a fucking Linn LP12 sitting right beside you and a God Damn pool outside".

Steve frowns, looking from Robin back to Eddie. He feels an uncomfortable thrum roll over his skin as Eddie stands up to make his way to the sound system he pointed out.

"Jesus, I think this whole collection cost more than my trailer," he picks up Steve's mothers Joni Mitchell album, turning it in his hands, "must have been nice to have mommy and daddy's money huh? This is like 'fuck you' rich".

Steve feels a faint nervous laugh tumble out of his mouth, even as his stomach rolls at the words.

"Oh my god," Robin laughs, knocking her shoulder into Steve's own, "yes! If I had a nickle for the number of times he asked me why I don't have my own phone line yet whenever my mom answers first, I'd be as rich as Steve!"

Eddie puts the Blue album back and pulls out a copy of The Beatles and now Steve is sweating.

Because Eddie isn't wrong, this is his parents music collection and yes it did cost them a lot of money over the years. But, more importantly, it was off limits to Steve.

The last time his dad had caught him flipping through the vinyls, Steve had been sent to his room with large purple hand prints on the offending arm and two broken fingers.

"Okay, that's my dad's, put it down," he says, hiding the tremor in his voice as he gets to his feet.

Eddie rolls his eyes again but does set the record down on top of the collection. He raises his hands in surrender and raises a mocking eyebrow as he steps back towards the couch, dropping down on the end as Argyle scoots closer to Jonathan to make more space.

Argyle and Jonathan speak quietly to one another seemingly uncaring about the strange tension that begins to bleed into the basement. It's Nancy who is watching Steve, Eddie, and Robin, her mouth set in an unhappy frown.

Nancy had only met Steve's parents once during a very uncomfortable dinner, years back when they had dated. While she may not know the true extent of Steve's relationship with Richard and Cynthia Harrington, she knows it wasn't all sunshine and roses.

"Man," Eddie snorts, shooting Robin a wicked grin, "I knew your parents had spoiled you pretty rotten but I didn't think they needed to buy you a new sense of humor".

"Yeah Steve," Robin pats the carpet beside her, "it's just a joke, lighten up and come sit down".

And that, well, that hurt a bit more than Steve anticipated.

"Why would you say that?" He whispers, the words falling out of his mouth like vomit before he can stop it.

Eddie scoffs from the couch, but Steve isn't looking at Eddie. He's looking at Robin.

Robin who meets Steve's gaze with a slight frown between her eyes, she looks back at Nancy with a laugh in her smile that disappears at the frosty glare Nancy fixes her with.

She slowly turns to look back at Steve, confusion and concern in her blue eyes.

"Oh come on Steve," Eddie takes a drag of the joint, which has dwindled into something resembling a roach before stubbing it out in the brown ashtray on the table, "we're kidding, come on Byers, you get it right?"

Nancy leans up to whisper something in Jonathan's ear and whatever it is, it's enough to make him stiffen slightly and give Steve a long look before he shakes his head, "I think we're going to head home actually".

Steve nods and breathes out, ignoring the way his chest tightens as he refuses to meet Robin's worried gaze.

Eddie slowly stands to follow Nancy and Jonathan, he says something quietly to Argyle that is met with a simple serene shrug

Eddie hangs back as the other three make their way up the basement stairs. He chews his lip and clenches his fist as he looks between Steve and Robin with a frown.

Eddie stands awkwardly beside Robin, spinning one of the rings on his left hand as he looks between Steve and the stairs that the others had used to beat their hasty retreat.

Robin gets to her feet slowly, her gaze never wavering, "Steve?"

Steve winces at the way she says his name.

He knows it was just a joke, he knows he's overreacting, that neither of them could have known about his relationship with his parents.

He knows it's unfair of him to be so upset, but he can't help it.

Because Eddie mocking him, that he could deal with. He could get over it, let go of the fantasies of Eddie's crinkling eyes and warm smile that made Steve's heartbeat quicken.

But Robin?

The way she had laughed, dismissed his discomfort, it was as though he had been transported back to Tommy's basement just a few years back, listening to him and Carol tear him down.

It's just a joke Steve.

He reaches up to pinch at the bridge of his nose, flinching at the sharp intake of air from Robin who immediately makes her way closer.

"Just," he manages to say with an even tone, shaking his head. He closes his eyes and clears his throat, taking a step back from the pair.

"I'm going to bed, got a shift tomorrow, so," Steve says quietly with a shrug. He opens his eyes but drops his gaze to the carpet, knowing if he made eye contact with Robin, he would inevitably ask her to stay.

Robin opens her mouth to argue, a fierce glare in her eyes and a bright flush on her face, he hasn't seen her this upset since the Creel House.

"Steve--"

Robin jumps as Eddie reaches for her arm, pulling her back, hard enough that she stumbles slightly into Eddie.

Steve curls his arms around himself, shying away from Eddie's dark evaluating eyes. He doesn't need to see the judgment there, it's embarrassing enough feeling like he's ruined the evening because of his hangups. He doesn't need the reminder of how ridiculous it is to be angry with them over something so silly.

"Come on Buckley, I'll drive you home," Eddie mumbles as he gently tugs at her arm once again.

Steve hears a harsh sigh, but she doesn't say anything this time. He can feel her staring, as though trying to read his mind like she normally could. Which is why babysitting together is weird.

Something something where Dick encounters the same problem as Clark had with Bruce, because while Dick tends to the baby, Jason keeps a distance and just sort of looms in the shadows. Wandering to the fringes of Dick's peripheral before pacing back away, arms crossed tight and scowl looking very much like a pout.

Because Dick is capable of watching a baby on his own and takes on the responsibility because Jason didn't/hasn't/has never seemed keen about kids in this way. Making sure they're safe? Of course. Having them drool and snot and vomit all over you? Not so much.

But the more Dick watches Jason and how fidgety he is, the more Dick realizes that it seems like Jason really wants to hold this kid.

It becomes very clear how Jason missed out on being there for Damian growing up. So Dick fills him in starting from the point where Damian came to him, at least, and what an ornery punkass brat he was and how Dick loves him anyway

And from there they just talk. And they laugh. They taunt and challenge and jibe and get recklessly close to flirting as they exist in this domestic bubble with one another.

For flavor and funnies: Tim and Kon struggling to babysit the baby. They've overcome any number of hardships together, but child care might be their undoing.

Just two very young adults with no aspiration for having a family being confronted with family life and not jiving with it in the least. Like they're absolutely the sort that hold this baby beneath their arms and at arm's length as there's a two v one stare down because like...what now?

Spoilers: chaos.

But before that, Kon and Tim jinxing themselves because for a while the baby is just chill and not doing anything and just...it's so boring? They honestly don't understand baby fever or the hype of new parents; this is miserably dull.

Famous last words between them, because right after it's all crying and hiccups and blowouts and just all the nasty things those who aren't ready for parenthood tend to fixate on hahaha.

Like, one of them absolutely gets peed on while trying to change a diaper. And they screech about it while the other laughs. But it's okay because karma exists so the other party definitely gets puked on after changing their shirt for the third time.

Tim develops some sort of system for troubleshooting baby problems; manic first parent energy dialed up to 1000

And by the end of the day they're both exhausted and they just got the baby down and they're ready to sleep, but then there's more crying and they just smack at each other because, 'it's your turn.'

But it's Tim and Kon, so of course they get into a routine and get everything sorted.

Anyway, abrupt cut to:

Where Tim is working and has the baby in one arm against his shoulder while he types away with the other. Just patting the baby's back to burp them since they just ate while attempting to catch up on a case he's fallen behind on.

Tim distractedly grabbing the baby's bottle instead of his coffee cup. And when he goes to drink it, the rubber nipple pokes him and he scowls because ugh, come on.

Meanwhile Kon is just there, staring intensely and being wildly jealous because it's been days of nothing. So Kon makes a dramatic gesture to his chest/nips and Tim cackles because omfg, shut up stop.

Which only makes Kon snicker and smirk and take the challenge for what it is.

Basically everything devolves into Kon trying to seduce Tim

But Damian is a dutiful son through and through and is wildly obtuse so he misses the obvious with Bruce wanting more time with the baby and insists that his father resume his duties and responsibilities because Damian can be trusted with this mission

Meanwhile Clark is just fond as he looks after his partner before turning back to Jon to assure him that Jon can call for him if anything happens.

Which Jon rolls his eyes at because it's just for a few hours; they'll be fine. And then a little hair ruffle moment because yes, they will be fine they've both grown so much proud dad feels ;3;

But also they'll be fine because DamiJon spend their babysitting time on the farm with the grandma and grandpa Kent supervising lol

New-ish post, kinda posting this on different platforms and getting a general vibe check for some ideas I have. But basically this Halloween I want to actually do something for the TTRPG and Actualplay world (oh yeah I’m into those kinds of things). I want to try and get both players, GMs, and casual viewers alike something fun to look forward to this especially spooky season. I’ll probably talk a little more when we get closer to the actual season of scare-giving but just know that if you’re interested I’m still looking for people to join in!!

As my team and I’d first debut we’re going to try and do a two to four session actual play, which will probably be released in the weeks leading up to Halloween. We’ve had a couple good friend way in on the matter of “setting” but now I come to you fine folk. Mind you this is a horror campaign/arc so if…

Isn’t your thing, keep on a moving.

But without further ado here are a couple of the possible settings for our players, and myself, this coming espookee season…

1.) Somewhere off the coast of Florida, 1926 end of the first major housing boom in the state, a small island which calls back to the Spanish Empire, is Isla Boñyela, a small port made tourist location during the boom of disposable wealth in 1920s America. A small group of friends from the northeast tag along down for the perfect paradise vacation. Only to discover the island is much much older than anyone could have ever assumed. Whilst dealing with upstart gangsters, unnerving US soldiers, and the terrified locals they find something older than even undead conquistadors.

While I don’t have a working title, this is an old project in the running which I’ve had a few attempts at revamping over time. Its previous title was “perfect paradise vacation,” and runs on the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition game. Anywho it’s a blast of fun with Caribbean lore, tone of anti-imperialism, and something dark lurking beneath the waves.

2.) 1950’s America, the nonexistent state of Mid-Atlantia (DMV coded) in a small suburban neighborhood where nothing goes wrong… it’s almost “All-Hallows-Eve” and little Johnny and Susie want nothing more than to trick or treat this year with all the big kids, Dad’s finally getting the big promotion at work, and Mom just got a new waffle iron! Sure everything is neat here in America. Heck you just got new neighbors! Newlyweds in fact from somewhere big and fancy, they sure aren’t like any of us in our simple town. But… and you can’t say exactly why but things are different. Or perhaps they’re all too the same? Everyday a repeat of ever other bland day that followed you over and over and over and over… and you could swear, while no one may listen to you there’s someone out there. Stalking you from outside your own home- or- perhaps, he’s just your friendly new neighbor welcoming you… to the end.

Ahhhhhh! I’ve also been working on this one for a sec and god writing it out does excite me. This is also a Call of Cthulhu game but modified/homebrewed to have a uniquely 1950s horror feel. This is definitely one of the more unique games I’ve written and am truly interested in seeing where it goes (even if we don’t choose it). This is for those who feel like isolation, fear of the unknown, fear from within, and liminal space horror comes best into play! So whadya say neighbor?

3.) The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend, or How I Learned to Love Strahd, okay so this one is a lot less horror-y and falls much more under the comedic spooky category, just so yall know. Deep in the middle of Barovia, the ancient kingdom of Vampires, meets a council of Count Strahd von Zarovich's greatest commanders and lieutenants to hunt down Strahd's greatest enemy Rudolph van Richten and his party of heroes known as "The Grape-Smashers." Strahd's lieutenants have been gifted powers greater than any mere mortals, but are these gifts enough to stop Van Richten, or even enough to stop the personal ambitions of each other? Come find out in "How I Learned to Love Strahd."

Okay, as much as this may seem like a joke suggestion it cracks me up and I feel like it would be ill-advised of me to not at least mention it. In an era where "The Curse of Strahd," is well-overdone at this point, it's worth a take from an all evil "revenge story." Obviously this will be in Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, which, in my opinion, is really hard to use for horror, but this is a nice go-around. Come for the evil PCs, maybe a PvP battle or two, and a game of intrigue in the shadows of Barovia! All that and a buff Van Richten.

4.) Before Annapolis was ever called such it was known as Providence, a settlement of exiled Puritans in the Province of Maryland, but these early days were no easy set-up for the far-flung protestants... in the mid 1600s the English Civil War spilled out into their holdings across the waves as brother turned on brother, clan erasing clan, and something from the shores of the Old World would arrive in the New. When around every corner could be someone you've known your whole life, what's stopping them from hunting you in the depths of winter. All matters made worse when rumors of a witch begins circulating your small home.

Think "The VVitch" (2015) meets "A Field in England" (2013) meets Atun Shei's recent film "The Sudsbury Devil" (2023). It is the unexplored wilderness of early colonial Maryland, but the hateful warmongering that slowly builds that makes the horror and tension so clear. Unsure of what system we'll be using, but maybe the new Regency Cthulhu system.

5.) The Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 destroyed some 140 Acres of Baltimore proper... and in it's rubble awakened something far worse. But you and your fellow survivors are just trying to get by in the aftermath of the fire... only for something to call out, whether some strange magicks or perhaps just a sickness... but sickness doesn't even linger like this... it doesn't call to you...

Some more local history, aspiring from the actual Fire of 1904 things quickly devolve from there as rumors of a cult begin to spread along the streets of Rosland Park... a mysterious illness leaving even more dead... and the death of an eclectic professor. Definitely using the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition for this one.

Reviewing past updates

Since the newest Welcome home update (which is just- ahhhhhh so wonderful check it out if you haven't already) and the newest events taking place, I've been combing through some of the older content to analyze it with the hindsight we now have. Mainly Frank and Eddie's relationship and the possible implications of it being hidden. Remember everything I say is just speculation and all in good fun. Feel free to make your own theories!

SPOILERS FOR NEW WELCOME HOME UPDATE AHEAD

Alright so we are all very aware of what happened in the hidden video, particularly to Eddie, who seems to have dissociated and opened his eyes about the reality of the world around him. Do we know if he's aware of specific details? No, it seems for now that he is realizing something is very wrong with the neighborhood and it scares him. This causes him to completely dissociate and become completely unresponsive to everybody except Frank (keep that in mind for later).

With the update, we also get more information about his role in the neighborhood, or should I say the lack of his role. He is very clearly being isolated from the community, and either purposeful or not it seems as though everyone is excluding him. I lean towards it being accidental exclusion, especially in regard to Frank since his ending dialogue towards Eddie in the hidden video implies that he cares very deeply about Eddie and I could not wrap my head around the idea that he would intentionally exclude Eddie unless he had ulterior motives (again keep in mind for later). There's a bunch of theorizing going on about why Eddie in particular is being excluded, the most popular one I've seen being that his relationship with Frank is too outwardly queer for the showrunners or the welcome home restoration teams liking. And while this does fall in line with the previously stated themes of welcome home (Clown had said that homophobia would be a theme) I'm not so quick to jump to the assumption that Eddie is being excluded just because he's a queer character.

Take a look at this artwork, I'm aware we shouldn't take non-canon artworks into theorizing but this is more to point out something I'm not seeing a lot of people mentioning. There are so many queer characters in the neighborhood. From left to right it seems that Eddie is queer, Julie is genderfluid, Poppy is trans and lesbian, and Frank is non-binary and queer. And this is just four of the characters! I wouldn't call it crazy to assume that more of the neighbors are queer as well. So why target Eddie specifically for being queer if there are so many other queer characters? At first, I thought it must be because he's in a canonical queer relationship, and coincidentally his partner is also being pushed into a love interest role with Julie. But what is Eddie doing that is interfering with Julie and Frank's assigned relationship? Honestly nothing.

I could make the argument that Eddie was being pushed out if he was disrupting or otherwise messing with Julie and Frank's "romance" in some way but from what I see, Eddie has done nothing that would imply he and Frank are romantically involved unless someone was specifically looking for it.

Here is where I look into past updates and audio transcripts to point out minor instances when Frank and Eddie are implied to be a couple. Keep in mind a lot of this speculation is done with the thought that Eddie and Frank are in a romantic relationship but are keeping it hidden.

First, let's look at Eddie's Big Lift and how Frank and Eddie interact with each other there. So Eddie having Eddie shenanigans is roped into a sort of challenge by Julie to see if he can lift the entire neighborhood. You can pretty much see how Eddie is pretty hesitant to pick anybody up, sort of just going along with it without any enthusiasm. He's very much pushed into it and does it just because other's ask him to (very in line with his character) Check out his reaction to picking up Julie and Sally:

EDDIE: Mail call! I’ve got mail here fo-- oh no

JULIE: [Overlapping him, running off in his direction] EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE, CATCH ME! QUICK! CATCH ME!

[Sound of packages hitting the ground and Eddie going “oof!” as he catches Julie.]

JULIE: TA-DAA!! See? See??

(Sally)

SALLY: Well, I’m not convinced. [commanding; Director Mode] Mail-maaan~! Mailman! Center stage, man!

EDDIE: Uh, yes, ma’am--

SALLY: [Snapping her fingers] Up, man! Up! Lift! Higher now-- with your knees-- all the way up-- there!!

EDDIE: [Overlapping with Sally’s directing] What, oh, uh-- yes ma’am!-- [Strained, lifting] oof-- here we go-- uhf-- alrighty-- hup!

Now look at his reaction when Julie asks him to pick up Frank:

JULIE: FRANK NEXT! FRANK NEXT!!

EDDIE: [chipper, Man On The Job] All right then!

FRANK: Don’t you dare.

EDDIE: [Tone exactly the same, backing off] Wouldn’t dream of it!

Chipper. It's honestly super cool reading the transcripts because although the voice actors do a phenomenal job bringing the characters to life we often miss small details like this when we don't look at the script. But back to theorizing. Are you seeing how enthusiastic Eddie is to carry Frank's in comparison to the other neighbors??? Like c'mon at least from my queer perspective this whole interaction gives "I want any opportunity to touch my partner because we are so deep in the closet that it's killing us". Frank's reaction, at least from what we know now, and their insistence on keeping their feelings for Eddie on the down low 100% gives off the vibe that they are stern about being touched only because it could possibly implicate their relationship. It's clear they at least admire Eddie at this point, what with the iconic reaction to Eddie lifting Barnaby:

FRANK: [overlapping others, accidentally being Genuinely Impressed a second] Oh my.

(Side note these two pine like no other it's genuinely so sweet, look how impressed Frank is)

And this is in front of people! Don't get me started on how affectionate they are when nobody is around. In the previous bug update, Frank still calls Eddie "Mr. Dear" in private (though keep in mind Wally is right there) but they are noticeably more affectionate and borderline flirty?? Maybe it's just me but Frank rarely teases other characters unless they're friends with them. And they never tease anybody the way they do with Eddie. And let's not mention Frank switching from Mr. Dear to Eddie at the end of the hidden record cause oh my god does that make me sad. Like the fact, they notice Eddie is stressed and having a panic attack but they only switch to Eddie's name when it is absolutely necessary like Jesus. Frank is trying so hard to keep their cover but ultimately their concern for Eddie takes over and omg does that ruin me.

But these are major instances of potential romantic implications on the website, and we haven't even been through some of the artwork. But the major point of my bringing this up is to say that at the end of the day, a lot of these instances are only romantically coded with the hindsight of knowing they are the only canon relationship in the show. If I'm honest you could make an argument that they are simply close friends for a lot of these events, which is why I'm hesitant to say that Eddie is being excluded for the sole purpose. It's so so subtle, and I feel like if we didn't know these two were canon we would not be looking at this the way we are. I think Clown and the rest of the Welcome Home team did a phenomenal job with the script writing and I love the subtly they put into the website for this.

Now onto why I actually think Eddie is seemingly being written out of the show. Why would Eddie out of this extremely queer cast, who is in a pretty well-hidden relationship with another puppet, be the target? Why not Frank? It's because of two reasons. Eddie is dispensable and Frank is acting out.

What does Eddie really do in this show that any other character is not already doing? Being the butt of most jokes? Well, to be honest, Frank could easily fill the archetype if needed, probably even better than Eddie since they are cast as the town grump. He delivers letters? The neighborhood is extremely small in scale (at least from what I'm seeing on the website) and honestly letter could be delivered by hand if needed. The Scaredy-Cat persona? Poppy has that covered. In conclusion, as much as we love Eddie, he is dispensable.

The previous update is one I also thought was for sure Frank's doing. I think it's pretty clear from the bug symbolism everywhere. In my opinion, I think Frank is aware that they live in a show, which is why they are so much more careful about potential outings than Eddie and why they whisper Eddie's name at the end of the hidden tape. Like they are afraid of being caught. So Frank is acting out, attempting to show the viewer more about the inner lives of the puppets. And as we see in this update, they removed all traces of their interpherence.

So what are they going to do about Frank now? They can't exactly remove him. They play too much of an important role. Nearly all children's media has one character who fills the grump archetype. So Frank has to stay, but they have to punish him in some way. How do they do that? Take away their partner.

And now that Julie is going into hibernation, and Eddie is suspected to be going away...who is Frank going to have now?

but really though, s1 suga-kageyama-asahi-hinata is soooooo fascinating from every single angle and i cannot stop thinking about it. like. just take suga, kageyama, and their shifting relationships with asahi over the course of the season: here are three people dealing with serious knocks on their confidence, who learn to lean on others/each other over the course of the season. you THINK at first this might be a handing the torch situation, because

who is it that tells asahi that you don't win alone, but you don't lose alone either? that's right it's kageyama (and like. don't get me started on asahi and kageyama and how 'you don't win alone/you don't lose alone' is SUCH an encapsulation of both of their character arcs this season)

and then in that practice match, who is it that tells suga to keep setting to asahi until he gets it? that's right, it's KAGEYAMA

like the way that he inspires them both to keep fighting--the way that that is rewarded later with suga saying that he'll fight for his spot as setter--it's not a power play as a third year, the way it might come across from other characters. instead, it's a sign of respect, both for himself and for kageyama. it's an acknowledgement from suga that he's able to fight for himself, and that kageyama is a worthy person to be rivals with, in a sense

ukai comments about kageyama, given time, being able to build a trust relationship with the ace like the one that suga and asahi has. but also saying that at the moment a strong relationship with the ace is something that suga has over kageyama

before the dateko match suga explicitly asks kageyama to carve a path for asahi the way he's carved one for hinata (because hinata was his first connection with a teammate, so now suga is asking him to expand that connection to asahi)

and then in that dateko match suga returns kageyama's words from the practice match--one more, until asahi gets through.

and then everything goes quiet, and kageyama recalls asahi's favorite throw and gives it to him, and ahhhhhh! it's that moment of connection (it's the first step of what suga says later: you've learned to connect with this team, so i know you'll be able to do it with others. in this moment in s1, he's connected with hinata, so he knows he can do it with others)

and then the shot cuts to suga and his face is blank for a long moment and it's like those times when everyone is wondering what hinata's feeling because his face is all blank. what is suga feeling here? is he bitter (can't stand a prodigy, oikawa had said earlier)? is he resigned (kageyama's well and truly taken over 'his' role now)? and then! NO! he's happy and relieved and so glad that his trust was not misplaced in either of them

so like! at this point a lesser story could have potentially ended the arc here. the torch has been passed etc whatever but NO this is not an either or situation, this is a yes and situation, BECAUSE

after the match, we get to revisit what kageyama helped ignite in suga earlier--he still wants to fight. he still wants to toss for asahi. he still wants to be the one on the court, scoring points.

and THEN in the match against seijoh, asahi calls for his favorite throw from suga and suga gets to give it to him and we're reminded that forming new connections doesn't negate the old ones!

and THEN we get that speech, doubling down on the yes and of the whole situation. because it's not suga's points and kageyama's points. it's not even asahi's points! it's karasuno's points.

just! augh!!!!!!! the way that their storylines all work together! don't get me started!!!! (too late i'm already started) and i'll be back because hinata is in this too and his angle is just as fascinating!!!!
