"i's is fine!" albert snaps, throwing finch's hand off him. he'll remember to apologize later. "leave me alone." he stares over the little wall around the roof.

"what's goin' on, red?" he doesn't answer. not right away, at least.

"i ain't workin' right," he says quietly. finch opens his mouth. "you don't gotta comfort me or nothing! i knows i's broken!" he wants to climb out of his own body. "normal people, people who ain't crazy, don't get angry like me."

"albert-"

"shut up," he hisses and finch goes silent. "i scare everyone away. i break everythin' around me when i get angry. i can't act normal! why are yous still here? still friends with me?"

"i like ya," finch says simply, shrugging his shoulders. "yous is funny."

"funny?" albert shouts. "i just smashed every plate in the lodges! i ain't funny and yous ain't still here cause i'm funny!" he feels more disconnected that he ever has, more and more like he's crazy.

"i think yous is funny." he wants to punch finch. in the nose. and then he wants to kiss him. on the mouth. he clenches and unclenches his fists as his sides, gritting his teeth. he's not gonna hit finch. no.

and then he deflates.

cause he's so tired of being crazy.

"why are ya still my friend?" he asks softly. "i- i'm crazy."

"i like the crazy. i always like the crazy."

"even when i'm screamin' 'nd cryin'?" finch smiles at him, turning to lean his back against the edge of the roof. albert stares at him, at the way he spins his slingshot in his fingers. "i don't think no one's ever liked me like that."

"i do." finch smiles. albert clenches and unclenches his fists again. "still angry 'nd crazy 'nd all?"

"it ain't ever goin' away. feels a little better right now, though." he takes a breath. "you make it feel a little better."

"yeah?"

"yeah. you ain't ever made me go crazy." he steps closer, right between finch's legs. finch smiles again, small and almost like he's trying to hide it. he hooks his fingers in albert's belt loops and pulls him closer.

"i could, though." albert leans forward, onto his toes and closes the distance between them. their kiss isn't- it isn't soft. he's never been soft, doesn't really know how to be. it's desperate and dizzying.

and it's everything he's ever wanted. he tries to move closer to finch, feels finch's hips almost jabbing into his.

it isn't soft or perfect but he wants more.

he wants finch.
