This 4th of July I’m stealing the patriotism euphoria that’s usually associated with assholes idolizing the worst attributes of this country because fuck ‘em I live here too and remembering the things this country actually got Right is an important exercise when trying to rally anyone to want to defend it in November SO putting my money where my mouth is I’ll start easy and say I really like National Parks!! It’s rad how many of them there are and how they’re actual set up to preserve some of the most beautiful wild areas in our country while still letting people visit to enjoy and experience nature!! (Less important but I love how they put national parks on the quarters I think that’s real fun)

#The hypothesis I’m testing here is that remembering there are good things now and then can combat apathy a little bit#and this is the one day of the year where everyone has a free pass to say nice things about the US so!#some other fun freebies:#public libraries are really cool!! Love visiting them and I should do that way more#bit of a funnier one but I think our interstate highways are really nice#like I’d love trains too but it’s really cool how you can travel the whole country relatively easily like it’s all pretty connected#I love how women have equal rights! I dislike takes that Danse would be just as conservative in modernized aus when it's clearly shown his staunch views of things come from his time in the Brotherhood and his deep-rooted desire to belong to something with a greater purpose.
Not to mention lines that show much more open-mindedness that get overlooked for his harsher sentiments when you first meet him. Like the oppurtunity to be a part of something is why Danse fell so far into Brotherhood dogma and it doesn't negate the offense things he does but I feel like it's just lazy to be like "hmmm he'd def be racist" just so it aligns to his BoS beliefs.

after watching ATLA I got curious about whether my constantly negatively comparing its gender politics to the (imo superior) 2003 Teen Titans animated series had any merit or what, so I sat down to watch TT properly for the first time in ~2 decades, prepared for the worst
but you know what literally THE SECOND EPISODE centers one of the female leads and her complex relationship with her sister and features her love interest comforting and supporting her as she works through her insecurities and finally confronts said sister so WHAT THE FUCK WAS ATLA'S EXCUSE FOR ALL OF THAT
#deerchatter#people r always like buhhh atla was feminist for its time NO IT WASN'T LOL#katara and starfire are nice reference points for each series bc they're both supposed to be caring and emotional but also fierce#but while katara is saddled with supporting other characters' arcs and being her love interest's emotional punching bag 90% of the time#starfire's relationships have equal give and take! she's sweet and caring so everyone wants to care for her in turn!#the narrative treats her as interesting and complex and strong and vulnerable right out the gate!#there are many other good examples of similar female characters treated well in other series before ATLA#but TT is the one i always go to bc it came out just a couple years before and is the same genre + had the same demographic#also btw yeah i skipped over commenting on LOK much. i feel like anything i could say on it has already been said better by someone else#perhaps except i still hold the character writing is MUCH better than ATLA's. like it's not GOOD but it's BETTER#the plotting is clumsy but i honestly prefer it over ATLA just bc korra's so loveable and by contrast i want to put aang in a paper shredder

As someone who practices kink on the side, I’m scared of getting thrown off the site even if I don’t break the rules. Because people just go “well obviously it’s ALL sexual” when they see the way I practice agere. How will you keep your site from mob mentality and becoming like twitter? How will you protect trans femmes and older queer people from getting targeted and attacked/reported? This is such a common issue In the tumblr and twitter agere communities
it's like this: i, and presumably my mods have a lot more urgent things to do than investigate everything every user does on other websites. i get similar questions to this pretty often: "i'm a furry, can i still join? i like xyz thing, can i still join?"
the definitive answer is as follows: my site is for ALL regressors. i personally can't care about the unrelated kinks and hobbies of every user. the rules of my site are (reductively) that you must be a regressor of some kind and that nothing on the site can be nsfw. if you want to know more about what's being defined as nsfw, feel free to check out the section about it on the survey results report! it's not a complete guideline, but it should give you an idea. wearing fursuits and reading weird e-rated fanfic is not on the list.
in summation: as long as you aren't being a jerk or a creep, i'm happy to say i don't care about what unrelated things you do behind closed doors (and not on my site).
also, as someone who hates twitter and the weird cancel culture digital lynchings it birthed: call-out posts on another user, sharing receipts, doxxing, and other attempts to get other users canceled or brigaded falls under my policy on harassment and will get someone banned. if anyone has a legitimate issue with another user, they should use the reporting feature to get in contact with a site mod or admin! :>

Bad news: I don't think I'm going to be able to write for ever day of TD horror week as I'd originally imagined.
Good news: The days I am going to be part of will be Cooking. I shan't spoil too much about it but one day already has 2.5K words and is only like a fourth of the way done.

#keyword: adding#in digimon conflicts come about as a result of independent viewpoint differences#ie takuya vs kouji. taichi vs yamato#or (since i just watched 02:the beginning) lui and ukkomon’s conflict is SO GOOD#it BUILDS to something. lui and ukkomon’s disagreement builds up to: they need to communicate. they both come from a good-faith angle#ukkomon so desperately wanted to make lui happy and failed to look closer to see what WOULD - and lui didn’t know how to express#what he actually wanted to ukkomon. or try to reach out to ukkomon in turn instead of basking in his life finally going ‘right’#but then not as much in idw gives me that good feeling of ‘ahhh they built to this and it is so nice’#or when conflict is created it isn’t because despite best efforts people clash and have to work together#it’s when someone does a stupid and someone else has to pick it up#it means a lot when you see kouji driven to press takuya to the wall and see them shout at each other#because they both have to realize that with words they will never convince the other of their viewpoint.#even though they both think the way the other looks at things will get the group killed#and of course it makes sense that the group would follow takuya. he’s their heart. their core#takuya’s the reason tomoki stayed in the digital world and junpei and izumi find confidence being there because he’s there rallying them#and in this case that good trait winds up being wrong. he gets everyone captured by the enemy and thinks theyre all better off if he wasn’t#part of the group from the start. but THAT isn’t true either - he just needs a BALANCE of his excellent helpful determination and willpower#and seeing things as they are and not as he believes them to be - more like kouji#he WAS wrong but not for HAVING the traits he had - for leaning too much on them#or (also going to a media im currently engaging in) sundered star. things go bad between people a LOT but it’s not frustrating.#it’s SATISFYING/ENGAGING seeing feferi leave eridan and watching eridan go insane and give in to the horrorterrors. of course it couldnt-#-go any other way for them. eridan wouldnt change until he realized he could lose feferi and feferi wouldnt bring him any real consequences#-to make him consider that until she was leaving and would never come back. and it was never her fault that leaving eridan lead to-#-catastrophe and devastation. it just happened as a consequence anyway#anyways i guess. if i see the characters do their best and things still fall apart it’s better than#seeing an idiot plot or characters written to be worse than they were to make conflict happen#with takuya he wasn’t suddenly bad or misjudging everything. he just didnt have to deal with negative consequences for misjudging before-#-because they hadnt met someone like duskmon that they COULDNT eventually beat before. even gigasmon who wrecked them all at first-#-was beaten once they had beast spirits and were on equal footing. so takuya assumes the same for duskmon without realizing that#they arent on the same level. so the issue didnt come from nowhere - it just comes to a head now

top/bottom discourse is fascinating to me because i think pretty much everyone gets themselves sorted into a little niche where everyone is shipping the same way but its not like, necessarily the same way you personally ship. it's easy to forget that fandom is extremely self-selecting AND that you don't always self-select people with the exact same opinions as you.
#every time i do a little seme/uke poll its seme L sweep but i actually think it would be different if someone else ran one ghfjlhgf#there's about an equal distribution on ao3 & there's more stuff tagged top!light than top!L this year by about like 30 works#not like. clean stats or anything bc i think people tend to tag more for stuff thats niche#or which they perceive as niche#like i don't generally bother to tag top!L bc its so much more common amongst my personal mutuals that it feels redundant#but like it does kind of seem to be 50/50#THIS IS NOT A VAGUEPOST this is inspired by 'kyo writing like 5 different top!light fics for dnkinktober'#is there discourse ongoing right now. i wouldn't know bc everyone with ship-based dnis has me blocked due to those polls ghkjhgf#this is fine btw 'annoys me' is a good reason to block
