Imagine leaving your kid in the legal guardianship of the kids best friends mom, never checking back in to see how your kid is doing, only passively via a TEXT to said kid. Oh mind you the whole reason they had to leave was because they were a year behind in rent and didn't make any effort to put money towards that, only to buy physical things for themselves. Before they left they went out of their way to make sure they had a Christmas FULL of gifts but NOTHING FOR ME!!! I had to buy my own food with child support money, I had to figure out how to pay activity fees (what they make you pay to join a sport or activity in American high school) without a job, and when I BEGGED to be put in drivers ed? I was told no. Because they "couldn't afford it."

So for my mother to have the AUDACITY to send me a picture of some strangers dashboard with fucking pokemon plushies in it, then say "I can see you and your sister doing this with your cars"???? I tried to be fucking civil and say "maybe!" And SHE JUST HAD TO FUCKING ASK WHY NOT. oh mind you immediately after that she sends me another unrelated sign about shoplifting that she saw recently. (Which was probably a jab at me, based on a memory I have where I wanted something at walmart, her partner said no, so she told me to "just take it" because her partner "accidentally" stole something from Walmart the week prior. Of course I got caught by a secret shopper. I left evidence. I was a child. I told the shopper my mom told me to and she lied. Not even for me. She lied and said she didn't tell me to steal it.)

The fact that I can literally take 3 hours to remove my own emotional charge, before replying to her saying "Driving is a touchy subject for me. Between 3 adults whose responsibility was to take care of me, not one of them found it necessary to teach me how to drive."

i did mention in a previous post that characters are ‘linked’ to vocasynths, but for the life of me i cant decide who suitcase gets!!!! im thinking kafu… idk why… i just feel kafu energy… but ill think about it idk. if you wanna suggest any thats perfectly ok, but i have a mental list of whos linked with who, and although MOST vocasynths are in all sekais (its complicated for a variety of reasons) (because i dont want to put every utau in the sekai or have it be too complicated so each group has a relatively good group of vocasynths per sekai) (more than 6 though. how else am i going to make tetorei yuri real???) (and more vocasynths can be added with certain story beats and stuff but its not common) (and also for whatever reason if the character is the 4th in the unit, like how in pjsk theyre ordered a certain way, like ichika -> saki -> honami -> shiho, the last one’s link is EXCLUSIVE TO THAT SEKAI!!! i dont remember why i made that decision i think it was for reasons with the vocasynths being able to be as-close-to-real-as-they-can-get when exiting phones, like instead of just holograms, but its this whole complicated thing so idk why) (and i havent come up with an order for the grand slams) (which consists of the main four) (aka baseball nickle balloon and suitcase) (so idk how that works yet. oops) i dont want vocasynths that are already linked to other characters in other groups or in the same group to share a link. exception for groups outside of the main ones, like i have some rough concepts of bfdi character groups, who have almost nothing to do with the story excluding one specific character whom i will not name, but like if one from there shares a link with an ii group then idgaf yknow

BUT YOU GET IT EXACTLY like at the restaurant i often work at we often just have a rotation with no server sections bc it's pretty small (i'd only be forced to do sections when i worked with my manager who made me want to DIE and made me cry once i literally ran out and cried next to a steakhouse across from us) and so basically i just sit people at random tables (i always ask them like "is this table okay?" and i'm not really asking them like girl i have better things to be doing than escorting you around this restaurant trying to see what table tickles your fancy the best. i just ask them so i don't sound super forward like "THIS IS YOUR TABLE SUCK IT UP." yk??) and whoever's turn it is next, they get it so i'll tell them like "table three for two people" so like I REALLY DO NOT CONTROL WHAT CUSTOMERS A SERVER GETS BUT THEY ALL COME AND COMPLAIN AT ME FOR HOW BAD THEIR TABLES ARE (probably bc they're trying to guilt trip me or be passive aggressive) BUT LIKE WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO ABOUT IT?? I'M NOT PURPOSELY GIVING PEOPLE BAD OR GOOD TABLES LIKE 😭😭 and i'm sure it's even worse at places like olive garden which are way bigger! and you have to work with other hosts and more people so best of luck to your friend she's doing amazing <3 AND YOU GET IT!! AND PLEASE WHY IS YOUR TECH THEATRE STORIES THE SAME AS MINE like i was a run and props kid until my school's musical sophomore year where we got these three boys who all wanted to do tech and we had too many run and props kids so i was like "yk what. let me go to lights so that hopefully u three can be together" which didn't even work out bc one of the boys got thrown into lights with me while the other two were on run and props but were on opposite wings LMAO and so that was my first show doing lights which i did board op for because it was also our last show of the year which was also our like senior who knew everything about lights' last show so after that she GRADUATED and i was the one left to figure everything out 😭😭 and then the year after we lost our senior that knew everything about sound so my senior year was a STRUGGLE omg...bad times. but then i left that department a mess bc i could no longer care. like that lights kid wanted my job so badly? fine, fend for urself bro i'm not teaching u anything (sorry i am spiteful against that kid still LMAO) I ALSO THOUGHT ABOUT DOING TECH IN UNI!! my junior year i was fully planning to go to school to get a bfa for lighting design (new grounds was such a self insert for me LMAO) and my tech director literally pushed me to do it but then i decided i really did not want to be in these toxic stressful environments for the rest of my life 😭 BUT IF I HAD YOU!!! I DEF ACTUALLY WOULDN'T MIND <3 WE WOULD BE THE BEST DUO EVER I KNOW IT!! BUT I'M GLAD U HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCES WITH PEOPLE NOT STRUGGLING we did this one horror play (which was SUCH a mess. okay let me just say this. our stage manager full on just gave up like halfway thru and would sit next to me reading vampire books and so same lights kid that kept trying to steal my job decided that it was "UP TO HIM" to save the show HIS WORDS EXACTLY I REMEMBER HEARING ABOUT THIS when literally the entire show was going fine and so basically he was like overthrowing our stage manager and was taking it upon himself to stage manage instead and give cues and just OMG THAT SHOW WAS A MESS BUT ANYWAY) and our main character just would NOT project like she was always cranky the musical we did that year she would just not sing or talk and we were like bro...ur in a musical BUT ANYWAY she wouldn't project we literally ended up hanging a mic and putting a little speaker in the booth so we could hear her bc like it was so important that we heard her lines but we couldn't when we were in a booth behind four windows and a closed door 😭😭

i completed Sable

im gonna compare this to so many other games dude you have no idea

when i first finished the tutorial and drove out into the sand dunes proper, i thought about hyrule field. like pretty much every other gamer born after 1999, i dont see it the same way is was seen when it was released. it was a flex - nintendo bragging about how the n64 can make a wide open field. of course theres nothing to do in it, thatd give them a chance to hide a loading zone or mask pop-in; they werent just a magician showing that there was nothing up their sleeve, they took off their shirt. this is what amazed gamers when they first left kakariko village: the sheer scope.

now its just a big, empty field. with technological advancements, thats seen as a failure in modern world design - what, you mean you couldnt be bothered to put anything here?

sable somehow managed to capture what i can only imagine was the sense of wonder players felt seeing hyrule field, but for a totally different reason. it wasnt a flex of pure technology, it was an exercise in ludonarrative! the way it gets you comfortable with exploring every nook of the ibexii village before showing you a world thats figuratively one hundred times bigger is such a fun way to pull the rug out from the player.

it could have easily been overwhelming in a negative way too, causing an "aw man, ive gotta explore all this?" reaction, but the narrative of sable being able to (instead of having to) explore sets the player up to share this outlook with her. "i get to" turning into "i have to" is the kiss of death for enjoying a game, and i think sable avoids this very well. when i got to the badlands, i didnt think "aw man, i have to climb all these rocks to get to the cartographer" i thought "oh cool, how do i climb these rocks to get to the cartographer?" because i was having fun solving an environmental puzzle.

another comparison i wanna make is to, believe it or not, Fallout. its an open secret that the fallout games are a bit lackluster when it comes to open worlds (I HAVE NOT PLAYED NEW VEGAS), but the originals had a great implementation of subtle directioning and signposting. the most famous example is right at the beginning: between your starting location and your compass's first mark, theres a town, and you need to buy a rope from that town to proceed, and thats how you get wrapped up in a major sidequest and open up a link to the rest of the world. Sable pulls the same trick for me: i was following the compass to the next major village, and i stumbled upon a weird location i couldnt really parse. i could climb a tree and pick up weird smokey seed things, but i couldnt do anything else. when i get to the town, im asked to collect beetle hides for a side quest - and that 'useless' location was called the beetle nest.

while im comparing this to bethesda games, id be remiss if i didnt mention skyrimming. its a phrase i use to describe ramming yourself up a nearly sheer cliffside to see if the physics engine lets you scale it. i did it all the time as a misguided tween playing skyrim for the first time, because i couldnt be bothered finding paths up the mountains. Sable lets you do something similar, but with more intention. the games open world design means it totally accepts you taking unintended routes. i didnt take the easiest route to the badlands village, but i still got there. allowing me to succeed in an unintended way is the mark of a wonderful open world game.

i got to eccria, and full disclosure, i had to crank my graphics settings all the way down. there were too many buildings and npcs for the game to handle. i kept getting lost in the big-ass city, too. when the investigation (side?)quest began i gave up on gathering clues because i straight up couldnt find my way to one of the suspects. i could still finish the quest is the thing, it just ended without any real satisfaction. i think thats great! part of good open-ended design is letting players end without perfectly curated satisfaction.

then i went to the shipyard. was i supposed to be there? thats a silly question to ask about an open world game. anyway, the answer is no, because i spent half an hour trying to climb a mountain for a quest i couldnt finish because i didnt have the right mask. man, this game rules.

man, i havent even talked about the art direction yet. what is there to say? im a sucker for cell shading, and this game leans into it so well! the way the colour palette changes when you go between areas is so cool, like... i cant even put it into words, its just so fun to look at. ive always considered deserts a hard place to make visually interesting, but Sable does such a great job with that

it was at this point that i started aimlessly floating around finishing up sidequests and oddjobs until the endgame. i only started noticing how glitchy the game is at this point. im not holding it against the game at all, because frankly its a miracle that any video game boots to a title screen if you know how programming works (not to say that i do) but its hard not to complain about all the times that things just... didnt load in. sometimes id crash my bike into invisible buildings, sometimes i would just despawn of my bike and have to dismount it to be visible, and one time a chum was invisible. this isnt a skill issue i watched the particles come out of nowhere

in the end, this is a wonderful game. if i had to pick one thing it does best, its the atmosphere. it puts all of its effort into making you feel like a small fish in a big desert, and i really related to my character in the world. also, i dont wanna spoil what masks you get in this game, so ill just say i picked the completionist one with the four-letter name. no its not the fuck mask, dont ask me if theres a fuck mask because im not telling you

"Okay so do you guys wanna do another movie next week?"

Hannah said, I pulled the door open and let her walk in to the diner.

"Is something new coming out that I didn't know of?"

Katie responded, stepping past me after her.

"I think she means she just wants to get out of the house kate."

"Oh, okay."

They both turned towards the order screen and started choosing their dinners.

"Look y/n it's not that I wanna get out of the house. It's that I really don't wanna hang out with my mother all day every day. I already do that... And I miss girl time."

I rolled my eyes and stepped up to the screen to add my order.

"So our plan for every week now is gonna be movie, dinner here, we don't talk for 6 days, then repeat?"

Katie laughed.

"Guess so."

I paid and took the receipt.

"We could switch things up if that doesn't sound fun."

Hannah said, grabbing a cup out of the dispenser.

"Yeah brunch and the mall instead."

Katie quipped back, filling her own cup.

"Spending more money."

I responded, looking disapprovingly at both of them.

"We could do something free."

Hannah said, turning to find a booth to sit in.

"I don't think your idea of free is the same as ours han."

"okay then you think of something genius."

i rolled my eyes as i slid into the booth opposite her.

"i dont know, pool and getting hot guys to buy us drinks? thats free."

kate raised her brows as her attention drew to the door.

"hot guys like him."

she said quietly and hannah nodded, her mouth slightly open. i turned slowly to look at him. my mouth immediately went dry as i faced forward.

"you should go ask him out."

hannah nudged kate and i held my breath.

"youre not his type."

i said a little irritated, taking a sip of my drink.

"alright ill ask if he'll go out with you instead."

she said, standing and walking to him. i couldnt comprehend what was happening fast enough. and before i knew it she was standing next to him as he ordered. god this was going to be interesting. i hadnt seen or talked to bucky in a few months and now one of my best friends was asking him on a date for me. not that i had a choice in the matter but still. he looked over at me and i gave him a tight-lipped smile. god i wasnt going to hear the end of this if he decided to even talk to me. they seemed to chat for only a moment before kate came back to the table with a wide grin on her face.

 "so?"

hannah asked.

"well he said he was flattered, and he thinks youre very pretty."

"but?"

"but nothing."

i drew my brows, mirroring hannah.

"theres always a but. ...but hes taken ...but hes not into girls ...but he just got out of rehab and needs to get his shit together."

i snorted. no he had his shit together. more or less. and he was definitely single. 

"nope thats all he said. i think you should go talk to him."

she nodded towards be suggestively. i sighed and stood up from the booth. both girls giggle to each other.

"dont get so excited im going to go appologize."

"lame."

Kate mumbled under her breath as i started across the diner to where he was sitting; a table close to the entrance.

"if i didnt know better id say you were following me."

i said and he smiled up at me.

"mind if i sit?"

"please do."

he said and i took the seat across from him.

"your friend is a real charmer."

he said, trying to hide a laugh.

"yeah shes a real hoot."

i said annoyed.

"so, you think im cute?"

he asked jokingly and i smiled.

"definitely not."

i said sarcastically and he laughed.

"that scar on your right shoulder would say otherwise."

he said winking at me and i sent him a knowing look.

"its nice to see you too buck."

"you wanna tell em or should i?"

he asked, nodding their way. i snorted.

"if you want a chance to get laid tonight then neither."

he raised a brow and smirked at me.

"see you then."

i nodded before standing up and walking back to our table.

"well he seemed into you. did you get his number?"

hannah asked, dipping her fries in ketchup before shoving them in her mouth.

"i did not."

they both acted deflated.

"youre so boring."

kate said, sliding her milkshake closer to her.

"he was  very glad i went over there. made sure you didnt really make a fool of yourself."

she rolled her eyes at me.

"of course i didnt. he's hot and you need a man."

i picked up a fry.

"i dont need anyone."

i said before tossing it into my mouth.

"yeah, keep telling yourself that."

when i was finally home i sighed and and sank into the couch. i loved my girls nights but they were always tiring by the time we were done. and i was so tired i was thinking about just sleeping right there in my jeans. i didnt wanna move much less get ready for bed. going to the bar after the diner was not a good idea even though i wasnt the one drinking. 

"you look beat."

i heard a soft voice from the kitchen, turning slightly to see bucky leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.

"if you knew where i was tonight you would know why."

he snickered to himself.

"i did and i do. those are some partiers you hang around with."

i snorted.

"only occasionally."

he pushed off the door and walked further into the living room.

"so i take it i should leave?"

i shrugged against the couch, my shirt pulling up and exposing part of my tummy.

"not unless you dont mind doing all the work."

he sent me a look.

"wouldnt be the first time, you know what i do for work."

i smiled at him and sat up properly.

"would it be too much to just cuddle right here?"

he smiled back and walked slowly to me.

"i will gladly."

he pulled his jacket off and tossed it to the chair beside the couch before sitting down. i scooted to him and he wrapped me in a tight hug against his body. he smelled just the way i remember, dark and earthy. it was comforting.

"i miss you bucky."

i mumbled into his chest, closing my eyes as i breathed deeply.

"i know. i do too."

i pulled away slightly and looked up at him.

"you could stay this time. you dont have to run away. you dont have to be somewhere to save somebody. you could just stay here with me and we could have a life together."

i was hopeful but i knew better.

"its fun while it lasts but you know im not made for this anymore. the home, the spouse, the charmed life."

i sighed and buried my face into his chest.

"but you could be. you can be whatever you want. you could be mine."

his breathing hitched and he pulled away. he looked between my eyes with a sad look behind his own.

"i love you."

"but?"

i asked sadly.

"it would kill me if you got hurt again... because of me."

i shook my head slowly.

"im retired from that life. and maybe you should consider it too."

then i heard a beeping from his phone that was all too familiar. the world needed him. and i couldnt deprive them of that. he helped people. thats just who he was.

"you know-"

"you cant. i know. but if you ever want to try again you know where to find me."

he looked at me like a beaten dog, and i slowly let him go.

"i love you y/n."

"i love you too buck, go save the world."
