Drowning
A/N: Not sure how I feel about this one but I'm currently going through this situation with my boyfriend and I thought that writing about it might help me feel better. Haven't gotten to the part where I talk to him about it but maybe this will inspire me.
It was late. Too late. You should be sleeping but it was impossible with your mind racing. You and Bucky had been together for almost a year now but you never really felt secure in your relationship with him. Maybe it was the way that your last boyfriend had broken up with you out of nowhere. You wish you knew why, but you always felt like Bucky was going to run.
As much as you loved him, you also wanted more from him. More reassurance. More romance. More small gestures to show you that he cared. And you couldn’t blame him for not giving them to you when you hadn’t asked but as much as you preached the importance of communication to your friends, you were a hypocrite. You could never apply that to your own relationship.
Everytime you tried to express your feelings, you couldn’t do it. What if I’m right? What if I tell him that I’m afraid he’s gonna leave and he finally takes it as his chance to do so? You would think. Or what if I plant the idea in his head?
All of this was made harder by the fact that you were younger than him. While he was established with a career, living on his own, you had just graduated college and were back living with your parents. Finding a job felt nearly impossible despite the countless resumes and cover letters that you sent out every single day. Your brain constantly flashed back to a conversation you had in May, where you asked him if you would stay together when you moved back home. Your hometown was less than an hour from where Bucky lived in Brooklyn, so in your mind it was a no brainer. But when your question opened up a conversation that blindsided you.
Bucky explained that he was ready to be settled down. You were shocked when he had said the words, “Sometimes it feels like we have an expiration date.”
The next morning he said he was being ridiculous. That he loved you and of course the two of you would figure it out. But ever since then, you hadn’t been able to relax. Even now, a month into you living back at home you still couldn’t shake the feeling that he was going to change his mind. You saw him just as often as you had when you were still living in the city. You didn’t mind taking the train to go see him 3 or 4 times a week. But the stress and anxiety was weighing on you. Combined with adjusting to post-grad life, you were not doing well.
You had never felt so lonely in your life. All of your college friends had also moved back to their hometowns while most of your friends from high school were still dispersed around the country. The job search left you feeling defeated every single day. And the lack of things to do and structure made life feel meaningless. It was safe to say that you had hit a low point.
But you wanted to hide it all from Bucky. Because what if you brought up how hard it was to find a job and he realized that this wasn’t going to work? What if you told him how lonely you were and he was offended that he wasn’t enough? He knew that you struggled with anxiety and he was no stranger to mental health issues of his own but you just found it impossible to open up to him about all of this.
So there you were, in the midst of another sleepless night overthinking everything. Laptop opened, frantically searching on LinkedIn for jobs in the hopes that one thing just might work out. You read back your text messages from the past few days. Does he seem distant, or is my stupid brain playing tricks on me? As your spiral continued, you could feel a panic attack brewing. You tried your best to focus on your breathing but it became impossible. You just wanted to talk to Bucky. You needed to talk to Bucky.
Fuck it, you thought. Losing him would be horrible, but so is living in this fear. Through your tears and shaking hands, you typed a message.
Y/N: Are you awake?
You shook your legs and bit your nails as you stared at the screen waiting for those three dots to show up.
Bucky: Yeah.
You took a deep breath as you sent the next message, trying to not go crazy over the dry single word he had responded with.
Y/N: Can I call you?
You desperately wished you could be with him right now to have this conversation. To analyze his body language in person. But you weren’t with him and you wouldn’t see him til the end of the week and you needed to get this out. Now.
Bucky: It’s late. I’m trying to get some sleep.
You knew work had been kicking his ass lately. He was putting in insane hours, usually waking up at 6 and not finishing up til midnight. You knew he needed to rest and you almost responded back saying nevermind, and goodnight. But no. You needed to be a little selfish or you would crumble. Tonight felt like a turning point. Or a breaking point.
Y/N: Please Bucky. I really need to talk to you.
Bucky: Ok
Pressing dial on his name, you felt your heart rate increase even more. You tried to take deep breaths to calm your tears but it didn’t help. You were practically sobbing by the time he answered the call. “Bucky…” you said into the phone.
At hearing your voice, Bucky was alert. He could tell that something was wrong. You had never cried in front of him. “Y/N? Baby, what's wrong? What's going on?” His desire for sleep was completely gone. All he cared about was you. He knew that he wasn’t the best boyfriend. He knew he could treat you better. But the years of trauma he had experienced made it hard for him to be vulnerable with anyone. He loved you so much that it hurt him and he hated himself that he couldn’t fully give himself to you.
“Bucky, I’m not okay. I’m really really not okay,” you practically hyperventilated. “I don’t know what to do. I can’t keep living like this. I can’t.”
“Shhh, can you take some deep breaths for me?” He said calmly. “I need you to calm down and tell me what's going on.” He listened quietly as he heard you breathe deeply.
“Bucky, I’m terrified,” you finally spoke after a couple of minutes. “I don’t feel secure in our relationship. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells constantly because I’m petrified that you’re gonna leave. That one day you’re just gonna decide that you’re done with me because I’m too young and I live with my parents and I don’t have a job. And trying to find a job has really been taking a toll on me. I’m trying so fucking hard but it feels impossible. It’s so defeating waking up every single day to an email inbox full of rejections and I feel worthless and stupid. I’m not doing well not being in college anymore. I don’t have any structure to my days and life feels really fucking pointless right now. I’m so lonely. Fuck, I’m so lonely, Buck.” You took a pause, bracing yourself for his response.
“Baby, why haven’t you brought this up sooner? Why haven’t you told me any of this?” There was genuine shock in his voice.
“Because!” You cried. “I don’t want to remind you about how hard it is to find a job right now. I don’t want you to think about the fact that I live with my parents now while you have your own independent life. I never want to remind you of it because I don’t want you to change your mind and leave. And I don’t want you to think that you’re not enough for me because I’m lonely. I love you so much but I just… I really fucking miss my friends.”
“Y/N, I need you to listen to me. Like, really listen to me. I am well aware of your situation. I know it’s hard to find a job right now. I’m not gonna leave you, okay? I’m committed to this. To you.”
You sniffled. “But you said that you wanted to be settled down. That we might have an expiration date.”
He sighed. “I’m sorry for that. I never should have said those things. When we had that conversation I was tired and not thinking clearly. And I spent that whole night wide awake thinking about how stupid I was and how stupid I would be to let you go because you need some time to find your footing after college. I hate that those words affected you so much. I’m so sorry.”
You talked to him for a while longer, pouring out all of your insecurities that you’d been holding back. After a while, the conversation started to shift to more normal things.
“Baby,” Bucky yawned. “I love you so much but I gotta go to bed. And tomorrow after work I’ll come see you, okay?”
“Okay. I love you too.”
Your worries wouldn’t fade overnight. You wouldn’t suddenly be able to get a job. Your friends wouldn’t all come back to you. College was over and life was drastically different. But at least now Bucky knew. And he wasn’t going to leave.

today's been a hard day scrolling through smoshblr, and i need to ask y'all honestly how to navigate it all. i'm gonna bullet point my thoughts.
dani saying that she was not valued at her most recent job (which is smosh because her linkedin says she left march 2024) because her mentors/superiors were eager to help her grow until her growth became a threat. so she faced an unpleasant and unsupportive work environment at smosh, a common phenomenon faced by plenty of black women and other woc in entertainment and in LA (source here)
kimmy announced she officially isn't a part of smosh anymore. didn't want to "spill tea" (which dani didn't intend to either, they just both want to be transparent about career changes). kimmy is also a woc who moved from cast to crew, despite still expressing that she wanted to be on camera. curious, huh?
today's smosh games video with noah and olivia. noah has been talked about quite a bit on smoshblr already for his zionist views. (source here)
learned olivia posted a pro-israel story back in oct, but i read the replies on the post and it says that she also has posted about a ceasefire in gaza, but i haven't seen screenshots of it yet (not saying that it's like "pics or it didn't happen" though). reading through the replies say that tommy and amanda (oof, this one hurts) also posted similar things on oct 7. hoping they've educated themselves and understand why we need to continue calling for a ceasefire and supporting palestine to end the genocide in gaza. (source here)
olivia parked in a handicap spot and claimed she didn't know? i didn't watch the who meme'd it when it was uploaded, but it caused many fans to be upset at olivia for it. (source here)
damien, angela, and mallory are the only three i've seen say anything in support of palestine. damien said talked about it on twitch, angela tweeted about it, and mallory posted stories about aaron bushnell. (if anyone has the screenshots/sources, please leave them in the replies!)
i need to clearly state that i don't mean to bring any of this up as a way to bash smosh. as this blog will tell you, i'm a huge fan and have been for almost a decade. but with every passing day, it honestly becomes harder and harder to stay a fan. yet, it's equally as hard to let go of something that has provided me so much comfort (and probably saved me many times over).
where do we as a community go from here? guess i'm just feeling a little lost right now.
again, none of this is meant to be hateful towards anyone. especially because we don't know who they are in their real lives. we only see their public personas.
and to anyone who is confused as to why we as fans should hold smosh accountable for these instances, they are a company with a massive following. they have influence and the things they say and bring attention to reached millions of people. but beyond that, there are people involved. people getting the short end of the stick, getting hurt, for the benefit of a few.
i hope this all made sense. and wow, it's a long ass post. as always, i really appreciate the other blogs on here for being willing to talk about these things. it makes me feel much less alone in my confusion.
please keep all discussions peaceful. absolutely no hate towards anyone will be tolerated.

what are your writing strengths? i really love writing detailed, descriptive interior scenes. it's one of my favorite things to do! i see every interior scene in my fic like a little still-life painting and i want the reader to be able to visualize the same still-life im seeing in my head in their head!!

Obey Me! Crushes on Social Media
includes the dateables as well as the brothers, so i'm adding a cut because it feels pretty long. the "social media" in question is just dewitter (twitter) and devilgram (instagram) because that's the socials i know the most about using :)
i was tempted to come up with some demon version of linkedin for lucifer though LOL
does lucifer own social media? devilgram doesn’t count, he can’t anonymously post about his inner feelings there. vague tweets (deweets?) about you. so vague that he’ll show you later and you’ll be like “what the hell this sounds more like one of your brothers than me. nice hair today? are you talking about asmo?”
mammon WISHES he could relate. mammon tweets about you every five seconds that’s how bad he is over you. lives in the same house as you and couldn’t send you a single friend request on anything, OR follow you first
leviathan is JUST as bad as mammon, please do not point it out to him. has no friends but if they ever stumbled across his dewitter account they’d KNOW who it is. it’s not fair that mammon can spend so much time with you and it’s not suspicious. you looked so pretty today. and yesterday. and you will forever and ever and he knows this because it’s you.
satan takes a picture of you and writes a cute little book quote that he thinks describes you perfectly. he shows you the post, all ready to hit send- you laugh and hit the button for him. it becomes kind of a joke between you, except that he’s dead serious, scouring through books for the perfect line for his perfect person. all his followers think he’s in a relationship with you, and he’s not about to say otherwise.
asmodeus has his personal devilgram account, but he definitely has a second account dedicated to fashion. you’re forced to model more and more outfits so that he can post them. definitely puts things like “look at MY pretty model” in the captions. he already has enough problems with his brothers, he doesn’t need other demons snooping around you too.
beelzebub doesn’t mess around. he doesn’t outright tell you either though- for obvious reasons. for every post you make he’s the first like and the first comment- although it’s typically riddled with typos since he’s normally eating when you post. he doesn’t really pay attention to his own social media accounts, but he never ever fails to pay you a compliment or well wish, even when he’s in the middle of something important. if only you took it as something beyond being a good friend.
belphegor- social media who? he HAS it, technically. it’s drier than australia and there are definitely cobwebs on his page, visible or not. the last post was also his first post: "..." if he ever makes a second post, it'll be when he wakes up and can't get back to sleep. upon posting “mc.” he finds he’s already drifting off, back to the sweet embrace of dreams and rest.
barbatos tweets “going through it” and then nothing else when he has a crush on you. rts it every once in a while when the pining gets particularly bad. once he typed out “GOING THRU IT” but never sent it. tweets “got through it” when the crush leaves him (never) or you pick him.
diavolo starts a “fan-page” of you. takes at least ten pictures of you every time you’re together and says that it’s for his fan-page on devilgram. the first time you heard this you were like “weird, but definitely not the weirdest thing that’s happened to me here! you do you boo <3”. fan-page of you- for who? nobody but him.
simeon is AWFUL with technology. it truly is a miracle that he manages to use devilgram. nonetheless, he does his best, and is always taking photos and posting them, typically with the caption "i thought you might like this :) @/mc". you respond eagerly, and at least one demon tries to remind you two that this can be a conversation in dms. neither of you pay attention to this reminder, and simeon invites you to the place that he took the picture. he later posts a picture of you lightly kissing his cheek. the demons become on very high alert after that.
solomon isn't subtle. "me, myself and mine" is the caption when he posts a picture of you and him together, and he tags every single demon brother and the royals and simeon, just for good measure. you laugh it off and comment "mine :)" underneath it. solomon gets a target on his back for an entire week before you clarify it was just a joke. this cycle repeats every couple of months as he tries to get more and more flirty comments out of you- when you post a picture of you kissing him with the caption "now shut up", he does. it's almost like an act of god.
bonus: LUKE only really has devilgram. he was worried about an "age limit" and it took diavolo, simeon, and barbatos to reassure him. lucifer tried to help but it just made everything worse. you're the first comment on all of his devilgram posts. any time you're not, you're apologising profusely, and he says it's all the demon brothers' fault, and you say yes it's all the demon brothers' fault. and then you spend the entire afternoon at purgatory hall. solomon takes great joy in rubbing this in their faces.
#two of these are not like the others...#oh technically three#but whatever#this was my FIRST draft!!#this has been sitting there for a long time. i am not kidding#obey me shall we date#obey me#obey me barbatos#obey me!#obey me mammon#obey me solomon#obey me asmodeus#obey me lucifer#obey me satan#obey me diavolo#obey me simeon#obey me luke#obey me leviathan#obey me levi#obey me belphegor#obey me beelzebub#obey me headcanons#look at all those tags aren't i annoying LOL

It's probably time to admit Nico's monaco based youtuber days are over 🥲
in 2023 he only posted 1 video, 8 months ago. In 2022, when he got his rimac his videos popped off among car enthusiasts with over a million views (he was the very first! that's where the monaco based youtuber headline came from lol) and he promised a bunch of stuff he was gonna film with it, like drag racing and 0-1s accelerations but he never did. nicotube was always a passion project, he never did ads or sponsors. in 2017/2018 he was using it to find his post f1 career footing, those videos were more car porn, driving around in fancy sportscars, vlogs of boats or even f1 race vlogs and recaps, starting his own karting team (which kimi antonelli raced in!), and finally dipping his toes into sustainability with greentech festival. he started doing one hour podcast sessions with f1 and then other notable figures, which really popped off during covid. also doing f1 simulator races of every track and talking about the best ways/corners to drive and optimise the track. even tracks he never drove, like he did the sim for Miami in 2022, but not vegas. f1 is ofc his childhood love, he talks about the sport and his career fondly but even that with his sky commentary duties he only attends like 5 races, and no more race vlogs or his driver rankings of the season.
these days, his most used social media is linkedin actually. he's big on tech, startups, and specifically sustainability. esp with Rosberg Philanthropies where he's funding scholarships to phd grads in Oxford who research in sustainability and environmentally friendly tech. so making videos of ferrari car porn doesn't really align with the brand unless it's to promote electric cars.
does that mean his YouTube channel is over? no. I wouldn't be surprised if he drops another video whenever he feels like it, but the olden days of a bunch of sleekly produced videos every other week are long gone. he's moved past it and gotten into other projects he cares about and knowing the rosbergs I wouldn't be surprised if he slowly transitions into more projects where he's not the public facing front of it anymore.
I loved nicotube. i probably wouldn't be as big of a fan if I hadn't discovered it because it allowed a glimpse into nico outside of f1 driver, outside of sky sports narrative, just nico rosberg the person who is genuine in his enthusiasm of explaining how car wings work, who is cringe and funny and endearing and embarrassing. there's some absolute gems there. I'm sad there won't be more but hey, people change and people grow. 🥹 nico especially f1 fandom at large likes to box into unchanging, fixed category, like he was f1 driver til 2016, then monaco youtuber from 2017-♾️, but that's not exactly true and I'm acknowledging one of the changes.
#nico rosberg#I like to think of myself as worlds only nicotube stan I loved those vids#girl who cares? i care 🥹

mx kendra, do you have any advice for job hunting? I'm about to start looking(again), but its always so intimidating - have a lovely day!
how it feels to start job hunting in the 2020s:
but yes i have advice for you anon! last time i went job hunting i got serious enough where i was reading 'askamanager' blogs and shit like that to really make sure i wasn't wasting my effort
so kendra's advice to job hunting in the most effort effective way:
first and most importantly is to understand that job hunting rn is simply a numbers game. it's not you it's just that the society we're living in is full of shit. for every 10 job postings, 4 are fake, 1 has an internal candidate in mind already, 3 are just posting jobs to look good and the rest are legit but slow af
bc job hunting is a numbers game its easy to be discouraged if you're not receiving responses consistently as proof that you're not just throwing shit into the void so its superrr imperative to try your best to apply to legit jobs. ive found my best success using indeed as a method of jobs being brought to me and then going on the company website myself and applying. this also doubles as a way to make sure a job posting/company is real
keep a spreadsheet of applied jobs. i just googled 'job application spreadsheet template' and picked one of the first ones i saw, made a copy, and then modified it to suit my needs. keeping a spreadsheet was one of the best things i did bc it can help keep track of jobs you've found and haven't applied to/ones you have applied to/and if you're like me and had a goal of getting a state job i could pre-empt when the interview requests were gonna come in lol 😭
resumes/cover letters. whew. probably the most important part of job hunting. ai scanning or not its a good rule of thumb to have skills mentioned in the job description to match the job posting. what i did was dedicate a folder in my google drive to job stuff and made a folder for each kind of jobs i was interested in. from there i would find a job i wanted to apply to and tailor an old resume to have a bunch of the shit mentioned in the posting on the new resume. i'd save it in the appropriate folder with the date i edited it. if you haven't been in the habit of tailoring your resume you may be doing this a lot but eventually you'll have so many variations you won't have to do much editing if at all. and i do the same with cover letters. i have a general template for my cover letter and then tweak them for each kinds of jobs im looking for. this + ditching linkedin helped me A LOT
create an interview cheatsheet. you probably already know the job hunting sphere has a language and culture all its own. personally as someone with a touch of the 'tism it do not make sense to me so i have unknowingly not navigated interviews as well as i could have. what's helped? ask a manager. seriously. miss allison has helped me blend in as a normie soooo much 😭😭😭😭 if you have any specific questions/have any specific weaknesses just search the site but what really helped me was the list of good interview questions. oh and for the longest i could never come up with a good question to ask my interviewer but one day google recced me this article and now every time i ask 'so what would separate a good candidate from an excellent candidate in this role' and when i tell you my interviewers gag every time lollllll. i also went through 'boost your interview iq' [pdf download link here <3] and jotted down notes on how i can answer common interview questions to quickly be able to go over the night before
study the job posting before the interview btw and try to drum up at least one correlating anecdote for some of the major points of the job bc they WILL ask you that lollllllll
#asks#after doing a bunch of research on job culture stupidity it really helped teehee#bc i really did think they meant to talk abt yourself not your qualifications.....

College Aaron
Day 13 of the #MarchHotchness event. Find the other days HEREThank you to @hotchfiles for creating this event 💕
As always Request here! | Masterlist
I'm obsessed with the idea of 18 year old Aaron proposing to Haley before he goes to college. He's romanticized a future for them and getting engaged before he goes away just makes sense. But she's still in high school, and nowhere near as preoccupied with the future as him either way. In his dorm on campus he wonders why he's doing any of this. So far life is not going to plan, and the sinking feeling that he's failing creeps in.
I do think he enjoyed college though. It's the first time that he's free in a lot of ways.
I think he over does it with the drinking at the beginning but quickly readjusts when his studies start to slip. The fear of failure overrides the satisfaction of his rebellion.
In his last year of law school he returns to town for Christmas. His mother hosts a charity evening every year for the local church and schools. It's mostly people sipping wine and standing around the large house draped in pearls, and thinly veiled gossip. His mother insists that he speak to Haley when her family arrives. He has the societal duty to greet her and her parents, but as his mother keeps an eye on him from across the room he knows that everyone around them is expecting more. By New Year's Day they're an item again. By April they're engaged.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Aaron has held on to a lot of his university sweaters and tshirts. And he definitely wore them all the time in Uni. Like you cannot convince me that he didn't attend half his classes in university branded crew neck sweatshirts.
He grows his hair longer in college and enjoys rocking the very 90s romcom lead fluffy look. He goes to concerts in the city.
He dates a bit here and there but nothing really sticks. He falls a little bit in love with every girl he brings back to his dorm though. He learns very quickly that he's not quite sure he has a specific type, but rather finds himself enamored by different energies. College is a spectacular time for self expression and after growing up around monotony and uniformity he's captivated by dyed hair, art majors, writers, fellow law students down the line. RECENT ECOMMERCE NEWS (INCLUDING ETSY), LATE JULY 2024
Things have been hectic so this is a long one update - all the Etsy and other ecommerce news from the past month, broken down for your convenience!
Next week could be a big Etsy news week, with the 2nd quarter report being released, and the mature items ban kicking in. I'm also working on analysis of the new Creativity Standards, but we may not have more substantial information on those until Etsy makes another move. Right now the categories are a mess, but that could change.
A reminder that you can receive more timely updates plus exclusive content - including live chats with me on select topics such as Etsy's new Creativity Standards - by supporting my Patreon: patreon.com/CindyLouWho2
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
The European Union is considering making packages valued under 150 euros subject to customs duties when entering the EU. This is widely seen as a way to reduce Shein and Temu orders.
The Etsy Creativity Standards announced on July 9th have a lot going on; here is my short summary so far. [post by me on Patreon] While I would not worry too much about this just yet, I expect them to be more important in the near future. Etsy adding "Made by", "Handpicked by" to every listing is currently full of errors, but more disturbingly, even when a seller points out these errors with arguments from the written policy, Etsy Support is sometimes insisting that the designations are correct. For example, original paintings are lumped in with AI designs and digital downloads. [Post by me on LinkedIn]
Amazon is imposing new rules regarding on-time delivery rates (OTDR); sellers that do not meet the standard of 90% on time delivery will not be able to continue selling. Businesses are exempted if they use the following tools: Shipping Settings Automation, Automated handling time, and Amazon Buy Shipping. Amazon is allowing only 5 days after shipment for products to arrive within the US. You can read the announcement and vigorous forum discussion here, and EcommerceBytes did a summary of the changes and some complaints.
ETSY NEWS
As Etsy's widespread ban on many adult-themed products is about to take effect on Monday, I considered why Etsy felt the need to take far more drastic steps than Amazon & eBay has in the same markets. [post by me on Tumblr] The upcoming ban started by getting media attention from Mashable, and quickly escalated to the New York Times [not a gift link; soft paywall]. Etsy is still not commenting on why they are doing this. From the NYT article: "Even before the ban, it was getting harder to run his business, Mr. Goldstein said. So, he thought, “Why don’t we just make our own marketplace?” This year, he started the website Spicerack as an independent alternative to Etsy. The online boutique already has about 75 sellers, which are vetted to make sure they’re not “dropshippers” or simultaneously listing products on e-commerce behemoths like AliExpress or Amazon. Mr. Goldstein said that Spicerack is in the process of adding about 100 more sellers, half of whom signed up when the Etsy ban was announced." From the BBC: “In many countries there is pressure on platforms, sometimes backed by new legislation, to do more to prevent under-18s from encountering explicit content, and to remove illegal or "harmful" content from their platforms. Payment processors are also increasingly wary of working with platforms that enable sex based commerce....those concerns could be addressed by more clearly labelling and separating adult product listings..." The Guardian interviewed a few sellers who are affected.
While Etsy previously stated that the new shop set-up fee would be $15 USD, they quietly changed that, to whatever they feel like charging. [post by me on Patreon]
In case you missed it, the new listing form seems to be triggering Etsy Ads campaigns to start without the seller’s knowledge. [post by me on LinkedIn] Since my post, there are still more reports of this happening, and even more.
I regret to inform you that Etsy’s Search Analytics are going to disappear after August 14 [post by me on LinkedIn], per a banner on the page.
Canadian sellers will have to pay a 1.15% “Regulatory Operating Fee” on all of their sales income (including shipping and gift wrap) starting August 15. This is likely due to a new law taxing large ecommerce platforms 3% of their Canadian income, which came into effect June 28. The tax applies retroactively back to the beginning of 2022, so Etsy is likely overcharging us to cover those earlier amounts.
Sellers having difficulties with the domestic pricing tool not working correctly may want to try these tips from an Etsy forum thread: Set the domestic price to the global price amount, save, and then go back in and change the domestic price to your preferred amount, then save again. This apparently works for both new and existing listings, but there are 3 drawbacks: 1) it is time-consuming, 2) it needs to be done any time a listing is changed/edited (including renewals), and 3) it doesn’t seem to work for France. (I don’t ship to France so I cannot test the last point.) Remember, if you have a sale go through for the wrong price, contact Etsy and demand to be compensated the difference.
Still don’t believe that Etsy is serious about shipping on time? See this Reddit thread by a seller who ignored a 30-day warning, so all of their items were removed from search. From this screenshot, it appears their average order value was fairly high, but that doesn’t mean Etsy will tolerate late shipping from shops with cheaper items, so beware.
Etsy is testing filtering out digital items from search results unless the terms match a digital item search. See Etsy forum threads here and also here.
A new academic study calls out Etsy and other online marketplaces for allowing illegally-killed bats to be sold on their sites. “We refute any assertion that the online bat trade is ethical. Again, statements that bats were captive-bred are absurd—bat farms are nonexistent—and it would be impossible for suppliers to find bats that have died naturally in the kind of condition and numbers needed to supply an ornamental trade. These bats were hunted.” The New York Times has also now covered this story [soft paywall].
The virtual seller education event Etsy Up is scheduled for September 10. You can register here, but there is no program yet. Usually this event has almost nothing worthwhile for experienced shops, and Etsy generally uses it to push their paid services and integrations along with basic info.
Etsy is looking for sellers to join their Advocacy program and “share your story”. Beware that sometimes Etsy’s “advocacy” is as much for Etsy as for its sellers, so they are looking for stories that fit Etsy’s own goals.
The Etsy Design Awards have opened; the final date for submissions is August 8.
Etsy’s second quarter results for 2024 will be released July 31.
ECOMMERCE NEWS (minus social media)
General
Shein and Temu are facing investigations under the EU’s Digital Services Act. “In a press release, the EU said it’s asking Shein and Temu for more information about measures they’ve taken to meet DSA obligations related to what’s known as “Notice and Action” mechanisms, which should allow users to notify the marketplaces of illegal products. It has also requested info related to the design of their online interfaces, which the pan-EU law mandates must not deceive or manipulate users, such as via so-called “dark patterns”.” Temu is also being sued by Arkansas for having an invasive app that is accused of harvesting data without user permissions. “According to the complaint, Temu is allegedly obscuring its unauthorized access to data through misleading terms of use and privacy policies that do not alert users to the full scope of data that the app can potentially collect. That includes not telling users about tracking granular locations for no defined purpose and collecting "even biometric information such as users’ fingerprints."
Amazon
Amazon now has an AI shopping “assistant” on its US app, called Rufus. “Customers can ask questions about products, comparisons and buying considerations. The AI can provide suggestions for specific tasks or projects.” As per usual with AI, “tests show Rufus doesn’t always provide accurate information.” A review from Marketplace Pulse notes that “Amazon’s AI assistant fails to help shoppers find the best product among the millions in the catalog. It transforms broad questions like “What are the best cycling gloves for winter?” into a few links to product searches — the same searches a shopper could have typed themselves. It refuses to make product recommendations, show specific products, or suggest from the thousands of options. It can’t directly answer the question, “What are the cheapest batteries for my TV remote?”
Any sellers who had items removed for being plants or seeds when they actually aren’t should follow the instructions linked to here to get the situation resolved. An Amazon employee warned sellers: “Please do not acknowledge the violations as these will result in the deactivation of your listings.” Affected businesses should instead appeal the flags.
Amazon is planning a discount drop shipping from China section, widely seen to be competition to Temu and Shein. However, “[i]t is not clear if these shipments will be made using a U.S. trade provision that exempts individual packages worth less than $800 from U.S. customs duties.”
The European Commission has asked Amazon for more information on “recommender systems, ads transparency provisions and risk assessment measures.”
Only 1% of US Amazon sellers also offer their items outside of North America. “Due to its proximity to the U.S., Canada has more successful sellers from the U.S. than Canada.” If you have a unique product, this could be an opportunity. Amazon returns are creating huge workloads for UPS stores and other retailers that accept them. “Amazon “makes up about one-tenth of our profits, but it takes up about 90 percent of the working day,” said Jeremy Walker, a store associate who worked at a UPS Store near Dallas that received between 300 and 600 returns per day.”
Depop
After trying it out in the UK, Depop is removing selling fees for the United States, starting July 15. Payment processing fees still apply. “[B]buyers will now be charged a "marketplace fee" of up to 5% plus a fixed amount up to $1.”
An interview with Depop CEO Kruti Patel Goyal reveals they plan “to bring Depop to a bigger and broader audience over time.”
eBay
eBay is slowly rolling out changes to the Active Listings page.
eBay sellers can now get cash advance loans through Liberis, the balance of which gets paid as a percentage of the seller's sales.
New sellers in the UK might see “automated feedback” on some of their orders, to "help [users] buy and sell with confidence". It will say "This seller successfully completed an order", and is removed once the actual buyer leaves feedback.
Michaels MakerPlace
Abby Glassenberg reviews Michaels’ MakerPlace popups inside their retail stores. Results seem mixed.
Shopify
A few hundred thousand Shopify users may have had their names, addresses and other data put up for sale on July 3 after a breach. Shopify denies it had any security issues and claims the data came from a third-party app. There was a known data breach at Evolve Bank and Trust in June; that institution is a supporting partner for Shopify Balance. It does appear that Shopify is notifying the affected individuals.
Walmart Walmart is adding pre-owned collectibles to its marketplace. “Eligible categories include Toys (Figures, Dolls, Trains, Plushies, Games, LEGO, Funko, Diecast Cars & Hot Wheels); Media & Music (Movies, Vinyl, Music, SteelBooks, Musical Instruments & Entertainment Replicas); Trading Cards; Comic Books & Books; Sports Memorabilia; and Coins.”
All Other Marketplaces
Indiegogo is opening an ecommerce website for items created through crowdfunding campaigns on the platform, called IndieShop.
Etsy-owned Reverb now has an “outlet” page, where businesses can sell off their overstock, seconds and out-of-date models for 20% off and free shipping. Most products sold through the main portion of Reverb are used, not new, so this competes with regular sellers.
Not sure if selling on Faire is right for your business? Here’s a handmade-focussed review of the wholesale site.
Payment Processing
Klarna is now available through Adobe Commerce (previously Magento).
Shipping
USPS rates for labels on most platforms went up July 1, ahead of the previously-announced July 14th increases. Ina Steiner re-posted the numbers from eBay and Pirate Ship.
USPS released the addresses and other data of logged-in Informed Delivery users to Meta, LinkedIn and Snap. The company claims it didn’t know the data transfer was happening.
The free USPS Priority medium shipping tubes are no longer being made, but you can still order existing stock.
Royal Mail’s Tracked 28 & 48 are now available at post offices.
UPS’s holiday surcharge rates for the US have been released; the lower surcharges start September 29th.
Shippo has new Canada Post rates from now until January, and the Tracked Packet rates to everywhere but the United States are cheaper than Etsy’s (which are based on Level 4 of Solutions for Small Business). Remember that Shippo makes you pay for a higher tier of service if you use over 30 labels per month.

Sorry for not being active here, it's a difficult moment for me. Some good things happened, I participated in a Business game with my university: me and my group got second place so I was sooooo happy about it! (I'd love to post some photos here, but they're all over LinkedIn and I can't compromise my friends by putting their face on my kinky profile) I think I have problems controlling my behaviours, I don't know if this is a sign of depression or something but I find myself unable to take care of myself or my place, my house is a mess and I can't find the strength to clean it up, and sometimes I don't even give attention to my own needs or to do things like wash or change my clothes, I am ashamed of myself. I think I've also problems with alcohol, mostly beer, I drink every day (alone, generally) at least one bottle of beer, and if there's a day without it I feel demotivated or sad. I don't know if that's concerning but it has been like this for months and I feel like I need it. Plus, I'm a really short person so one can easily make me all dizzy (I only drink red or double malt). Right now I have two double malt in the fridge and since I didn't drink today I feel like I need it so bad. I feel so demotivated, I don't know why I feel like this every time I finish something important I've been working on for months then it feels like everything else is worthless. But it's happening a bit too frequently lately, I should do something about it.

started very casually looking for a new job, i.e. simply responding to a recruiter who messaged me out of the blue on linkedin, because my employer has been in the news for extremely messy reasons, and somehow casual very quickly became not casual. i'm so used to sending resumes into the void as that's been my experience every other time i've been looking for a job, and so now, like, i understand that i have more experience in my field and it's a good time to be looking because unemployment is so low etc. etc., but over the course of the last few weeks i've had something like a dozen interviews for five different jobs and have a written offer from one of them, and i only like, actually applied to one of these (which is unfortunately the only one i actually want, rip. i've had interviews with now uhh at least eight people from this company, my god PLEASE hire me and put me out of my misery), the rest were the result of people reaching out to me or referring me or whatever.
anyway. this is a good problem to have but my god i'm so tired. i had to stop here and think because in the course of typing the above paragraph i forgot where i was even going with this post. which is not really about job hunting at all except in that because of the hunting i've been too busy and tired to work on my silly little fanfictions. i've been sitting on edits for one for weeks now (sorry mallory i swear i'm not ignoring your email) and now all the posts going around about louise gluck have reminded me of another fic i want to write, but which i've hesitated to start because (1) i still have other wips that have been languishing for years and (2) the idea is in fact sad and fucked up enough that i'm not sure i can come up with a non-depressing ending, which is what i feel compelled to have in this case for whatever reason, that would feel in any way realistic. this is probably an insane first thing to think of in response to the death of someone whose writing i so admire. but well there you have it

Hi hi!! Just so say in advance but for some reason i cant write questionmarks so ive just put them in brackets of where they go lmao. I wanted to shoot you a message and so I hope you dont mind but I was wondering what sort of portfolio you submitted to be able to work on Unicorn Warriors Eternal, I currently am an animator who has been struggling on getting a 2d animation job for a few years now and I was wondering if you would have any advice for someone who feels like they are struggling to get into the industry (Questionmark) Your animation for the show is amazing and I love the little bit of fanart that you made of melinda and edred too!! Once again, sorry if this is a bother but I figured that I would atleast try to ask :)
Heya! No worries at all!
I still feel super lucky honestly and I've only ever been at this one studio so far, so I don't know how helpful this is gonna be but I'll give it my best shot haha
This was my old showreel straight from the end of university which I had on my portfolio site when I applied:
https://youtu.be/42ubnrPGx2Y
I was lucky in the fact that the main thing I enjoyed doing during uni was animation clean-up in TVPaint, aaaand then I saw the job listing looking for... animation clean-up in TVPaint! I'm still not the best at rough animation, but as you can see my reel had lots and lots of clean-up examples, and that was exactly what Studio Zmei was looking for.
So, first tip: Focus your showreel on what you want to get a job for! If you're applying for rough traditional animation, show your roughs vs the final thing, or a clean-up heavy reel like mine if you wanna do clean-up, or a reel just for ToonBoom rigged animation if that's what you're applying for.
Second? Tip? Look for more obscure studios, or ask around your local studios (if you have any) if they offer internships or even junior level jobs? Studios are often really biased towards local people, and I was lucky that Zmei just happened to be situated in my home city. We often get interns not from any listings but just from people showing interest in an email. But I also know that's a bit unusual and a lot of studios are more closed off?? And going back to the more obscure studios part: The more well known a studio is, the more insane the competition to get a spot is, hence why usually it's not so much your portfolio's fault rather than the huge influx of candidates. This is where looking at general animation job listings sites can help a lot, and I even found Zmei's listing here in the first place:
https://animatedjobs.com/
aaand there's one for games too: https://gamejobs.work/
Lots of studios use these and they also have twitter/instagram pages to keep you updated as well. If a job is listed as remote, go for it! A lot of smaller studios that handle outsource animation are often starved for animators. (a lot of those do 2D rigged animation in ToonBoom or Adobe too, so it's def worth making a fresh reel for that if it's up your alley) Following a lot of studios on social media and especially LinkedIn helps too, as some of them post listings there exclusively.
And, third tip - there's no shame in starting small. I constantly get spammed by studios looking for mobile game animators or educational video animators on LinkedIn. Sure not all of those are gonna be worth looking into, but a lot of my friends started off like that. Every little bit of experience counts and builds up your CV. It's really hard to jump straight into being a rough animator, or a designer, or a storyboarder. Even my role of doing clean-up is considered more junior, and we had lots of people who did only coloring and shading too. And the more entry level version of a storyboard artist would be a storyboard revisionist. Everyone starts somewhere!
Other things like putting a direct link or linktree to your portfolio site or showreel easily accessible on all of your social medias could also help, as recruiters often have no time to dig for that stuff. (altho I'll be honest I've only ever been approached once (1) by a local studio on just instagram, so that's a really rare occurrence. still helps to be prepared though!)
I hope this was somewhat helpful haha. Good luck!!!

hi, sorry for the stupid question, but what "bible" are u referring to in that TF post? i'm new to the tf fandom and was curious to go look up some good info-heavy lore reference dump books....
Hi!! Not a stupid question at all :D
The Aligned Continuity was supposed to be like a new take on Transformers that would combine G1 and other past generations into something more cohesive and contained, and while I can't say for sure this is what Aligned is, Rik Alvarez who was one of the main creators behind it has worked in transmedia according to his Linkedin, which is like a multi-media approach to telling a story (usually with an interactive element because you often see Transmedia Storytellng utilized as a form of advertising and engagement) meaning that ideally, all parts of Aligned would be telling one Big Story. Covenant of Primus for example, is like both a lore book for us but its a diagetic piece of media in that the Covenant is something that exists within Transformers itself.
In order to do that though, so that every piece of media related to Aligned was....well aligned with each other, they had to compile a giant Production Bible of information called the Binder of Revelations that detailed all the ins and outs of the Continuity, from the timelines of history, the character profiles, the stories of the Primes. I think they also wanted this to apply to other pieces of Transformers media as well.
Sadly, it kind of wasnt used to its fullest potential, with TFP wanting to do its own thing and then shows spinning off of TFP specifically not matching 100 percent with the lore laid out. Hasbro most likely insisted they like, followed SOME of what was outlined but generally wasnt too concerned about making things stay As consistent as they could have been (Thats where you get something like Beast hunters in TFP, which had to resolved in The Covenant of Primus later (citation needed))
I mostly think its funny because that portrayal of Orion Pax is, as far as I'm concerned, unique to the Aligned Continuity, where it works out really well given the full story, books and games included, and IDW2 made it work too. But for something that didn't take off at the time, they are still using a lot of things set forth in Aligned including the Primes and such, and I find that both funny and bittersweet, since I feel like Aligned had a lot of potential in stories they had planned out that simply never came to fruition and probably wont at this point? But like, also because constantly referencing and pushing these evergreen ideas from one continuity changes a lot and doesnt leave room for movement I think, and you also see this with those ideas and bios being retroactively applied to places where it wasnt the case, changing the story entirely by default
#chass blabs#transformers#this is off the top of my dome dont @ me#anyways Transformers has a lot of stuff going on worth looking into and a lot of series that dont follow the like#miner megatron data clerk pax 'they were friends once' narrative

Lessons from a Semester of Networking: My Seminar Journey
I had no idea how life-changing the Marketing Management-Financial Management Seminar series would be when I joined up. I imagined a few LinkedIn connections, talks, and perhaps an additional line on my resume. However, this semester was more than just attending classes; it was a master class on networking and job development.
This journey was truly remarkable, ranging from industry experts revealing their insider secrets to casual coffee conversations developing into lasting relationships. Here's what I learned and how it went.
You don't often hear from executives who have worked in the financial and marketing fields, tackling practical issues and developing innovative approaches. I remember feeling a spark of inspiration as they described pivoting a struggling campaign into a viral sensation. Their lesson? Marketing isn’t just selling; it’s connecting. After the seminar, I reached out via LinkedIn, crafting a personalized message thanking them for their insights. That message sparked a conversation, and now I have a mentor who guides me through my career planning.
Another unforgettable moment was the session on financial risk management. The speaker shared practical tips on balancing creativity with data-driven decision-making. Their words challenged my perspective, making me realize that even the most creative ideas need a solid financial foundation. I approached every seminar with one question in mind: Who can I meet today who might shape my future?
Beyond the seminars, I attended networking mixers and panel discussions. Another move I made was joining a few LinkedIn groups related to marketing and finance. Through these groups, I engaged in discussions, shared insights, and even landed an opportunity to volunteer at an industry conference. Volunteering was eye-opening—it gave me behind-the-scenes access to industry leaders and allowed me to make genuine connections, not just superficial introductions.
Job-hunting can feel overwhelming, but I discovered tools that simplified the process. Websites like Glassdoor and Indeed were helpful, but the real gem was LinkedIn. By optimizing my profile (thanks to advice from one of the seminar sessions), I attracted recruiters and expanded my reach.
Here’s what I’ve learned about networking:
Be Genuine: People can sense when you’re being authentic. Focus on building relationships, not just collecting contacts.
Personalized Follow-Ups: A simple “It was great meeting you” message can open doors. Mention something specific from your conversation to make it personal.
Stay Active: Networking doesn’t end when the event does. Engage with your contacts by commenting on their posts or sharing relevant articles.
Be Proactive: Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you—create them. Reach out, attend events, and put yourself out there.
Give Before You Take: Offer value, whether it’s sharing insights, introducing someone to a contact, or volunteering your time.
As the semester ends, I’m left with a sense of purpose and direction that I didn’t have before. The Marketing Management-Financial Management Seminar series wasn’t just a set of lectures—it was a transformative experience that changed how I view my career and my ability to shape it.
One of the most exciting realizations I had is how dynamic and evolving the marketing and finance industries are. The speakers didn’t just talk about their past experiences; they emphasized the importance of staying adaptable in a world where AI, data-driven strategies, and global trends are reshaping the landscape.
This semester's discoveries have helped me focus on what most interests me: bridging the gap between statistics and creativity. Today's marketing involves both data and storytelling, and I'm keen to acquire the abilities that will enable me to accomplish both. I intend to look into areas where I can spearhead campaigns that are both creative and firmly anchored in market trends and customer behavior.
The sessions on financial management also gave me clarity on the importance of understanding the numbers behind the ideas. Moving forward, I want to deepen my knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and ROI analysis—skills that will not only make me a more valuable marketer but also help me contribute to the strategic growth of any organization I work with.
The relationships I’ve built during this seminar are just the beginning. I’ve already started scheduling coffee chats and virtual meetings with some of the professionals I connected with. It’s not just about asking for advice—it’s about building genuine relationships and finding ways to contribute to their professional journeys, too.
I’m also planning to attend more industry events and conferences. This semester taught me the importance of showing up and being present in spaces where decision-makers and innovators gather. Whether it’s local meetups or large-scale expos, these events will be key to expanding my horizons and staying ahead of trends.
Another key takeaway from this experience is the value of continuous learning. The marketing and financial management fields are always changing, and staying curious is non-negotiable. Over the next year, I plan to dive into courses on topics like digital marketing analytics, branding strategies, and financial modeling.
I also plan on fostering the habit of reading. From articles on the newest marketing technologies to books on consumer psychology, I've come to the conclusion that education is one of the most effective methods to establish trust and confidence in my line of work.
This semester served as a springboard for my career, not just a series of seminars. I learned so much from the speakers, activities, and contacts that I will use going forward.
