Ok but why did you like madam web? I have no opnion on the movie and I'm not planning to see it but I do want to see why the few people that enjoyed it did
Thereā€™s many reasons. For starters it is extremely campy, and I love that. I kinda miss superhero movies that go the extra mile to be different, that they even become a little bit cheesy. I guess thatā€™s why I also liked Multiverse of Madness, it was refreshing to have a different story AND visual storytelling, which takes me to my second point.
Iā€™ve heard a lot of people complain about how superhero movies became kind of static, no camera movements, no different shots or angles to push the story forward. I am a professional story board artist, so I appreciate a lot when a movie isnt just telling you whatā€™s going on just through dialogue, but composition and camera work. Yes, itā€™s a little sloppy in madame web, but Iā€™m so glad it just isnt green screen 24/7 and its the editing and the cinematography what Ā«shows youĀ» Cassieā€™s abilities. Thatā€™s super creative!
Then I loved Cassie as a character, I related a lot to her. The snarky comments, the acid humor, the not knowing how to Ā«properlyĀ» interact with other people. That felt so real! She felt like a real person, like someone I can be. I also enjoyed her connection to the girls, them all had great chemistry even if the script made their scenes trip a little, but the way them all shared things in common and became a family, I liked that, Iā€™m a sucker for the found family trope. And also Cassieā€™s relationship with her mom, I understood that, and that hit me deeply.
Then as for the superhero part. I love that Cassieā€™s power isnt questioned or dismissed because sheā€™s a woman. Iā€™m VERY tired of movies having these hollow speeches of: ā€˜Oh, but I am a woman and that makes me strongā€™ or ā€˜weā€™ll take you down with female powerā€™, or having male characters underestimating them for being women and then ā€˜learning their lessonā€™. This story never goes there and I appreciate it a lot.
I have many other reasons, but Iā€™ll end just by saying that Iā€™m a huge greek mythology nerd. And I enjoyed a lot Cassieā€™s story connecting with Cassandra, the seer whose visions werenā€™t believed. And also Oedipus as Ezekiel trying to avoid his fate.
Is it the best movie? Definitely not, but itā€™s not as bad as people have said. I believe that every movie has something good to highlight and enjoy and I enjoyed this one a lot! Also. Britney Spears and The Cranberries in the same soundtrack, that sounds fucking awesome.

i immediately deleted the ask i got because it's fucking braindead but im gonna post about it anyway.
if you have to start with "you CLEARLY only consume popular/recent media you need to watch unpopular/ancient media instead" and go on to detail why i'm wrong and why i should pry my eyes open like clockwork orange and force myself to watch fictional characters with zero established compatibility lick each other's necks to whatever the current iteration of shape of you is nowadays/was back then? you're actually stupid. like genuinely you're a dipshit full stop.
no the fuck i don't need to watch X Y Z or the sequel prequel spinoff. i dont need to do fucking anything that you insist i 'need' to force me into your blowhard bitch brigade full of self-fellating schmucks.
you ''need'' to sniff a flower and feel the wind on your face. bask in the dappled sunlight under a tree and eat some sliced fruit. jackass.

today i spent SEVERAL minutes contemplating the difference between "sympathetic villain" and "charismatic villain" and whether fandom as a whole confuses these categories sometimes
#like A Good/Fun/Popular Baddy always seems to get called sympathetic? but they're not always actually?#sympathetic to me is like magneto or killmonger - you disagree with their means but their reasoning and goal are to some degree sound#but like Missy has rubbish reasons for killing people and taking over planets - she's just fucking cool while doing it u kno?#no tragic backstory no noble goals no grand vision none of that at all really#i have said before my Class Issues def make me less sympathetic to Thor-Movies!Loki - but he *is* charismatic and cool#but has fandom largely invented that Tragic Backstory to shove him into the Sympathetic category because that seems like The Good Thing?#(like i'd agree Thor wasn't ready to rule but it's hard to overlook how convenient this opinion is for the second-in-line to have u kno?)#which is maybe a writing/filmmaking issue if the Baddy might not be (allegedly) but it's hard to tell because Obvious Conflict Of Interest#ironicall(?) enough Sylvie actually does have the backstory and goals of a Sympathetic Villain being as they are VERY different#(*obligatory mention of The Class Issues there*)#but we learn those things only when we realise she isn't really the baddy anyway#Magneto thinks the normies want to kill the mutants and to be fair to him that's the plot of pretty much every X-Men film isn't it?#so he's not wrong. and we all know that he's not wrong in that regard. it's just his methods that are the issue.#and with that backstory we can absolutely see why he'd think it was kill-or-be-killed so there too there is reason for sympathy#so sometimes i feel like i could side with the villain in the right situation and sometimes it's like just like ā€œSacha Dhawan is rly hotā€#which is also valid etc etc etc#remember kids if you write the wank in tags that makes it 95% less wanky :D somehow

every time I remember that the hit show supernatural made God, the literal God from the Bible, canonically bisexual but couldnā€™t do the same with a random guy who hunts monsters it actually makes me feel physically ill.. like blasphemy is okay but we draw the line at making the main character a little bit queer because it would ā€œupset the heterosexuals menā€? okay igā€¦ and itā€™s so funny to me that they tried SO bad to make dean like really really straight and macho and a manly womanizer (I mean dude has literal porn brain and is obsessed with cars and is a film nerd) And still is the number 1 bissexual boy.. I mean no one that into cowboys is 100% straight šŸ™„ and if they actually wanted him to be that much of a cishet guy WHY would they make him have a codependent homosexual friendship with his best friend for more than a decade ?? and we have so much subtext to corroborates it that itā€™s actually insane.
and itā€™s also rlly funny to me that sam would be the most obvious choice for a queer storyline. like iā€™m not sure this is true but i heard somewhere that he actually was supposed to like be lgbt and that itā€™s implied in the show heā€™s pan bc he basically have sex w/ everyone and doesnā€™t care (like monsters and stuff). i wholeheartedly disagree bc sure he hited a demon and a werewolf and a kitsune and God knows what more But it still were just women and for me heā€™s still just straight šŸ’€ we do have gabriel however and i would say thatā€™s a valid argument but i donā€™t actually like them together because of the whole torturing-sam-every-tuesday-over-and-over-again but itā€™s still a good take ig. again this is just my opinion But anyways doesnā€™t matter my point Is that sam always felt like a freak and wanted to be normal and like was more open minded and ā€œless-macho-toxic-behaviorā€ than dean. he was a theater kid and talked about his feelings and all. STILL THO dean went and become The bissexual icon (Not Sam, Dean!!). and the fact that he was more manly actually only emphasized to his sexuality (and him being closeted) and sam being the straight one, and bare with me here. as sam winchester once wisely said ā€œwell you are kind of butch they probably think you're compinsating.ā€ (to dean asking why people always assumed they were gay) and like this is so true, sam always felt comfortable in himself and like his nerdier and less cool strong man personality. But dean, oh, dean, no, no, no. and it could all be linked to john. we know how much dean wanted to gain his father approval and respect, all he ever wanted was for john to be proud of him. so heā€™d listen to the same music as john, same clothesā€¦ and so on. but when we really see a glance of him, we realize heā€™s actually much more ā€œā€œā€œgirlyā€ā€ā€ (sorry for the term i lacked a better one) than he shows, Especially when compared to samā€”whoā€™s supposed to be the more girly one (again sorry for the term lol) or whatever. dean canonically likes taylor swift, chick flick films, actually liked when a woman made him wear underwear, the bailarinas shoe were ā€œspeaking to himā€ in that one ep of cursed objects, and so on. and every time he makes fun of sam for doing something not-manly-enough (like drinking lemon water or drinking from tiny coups) he eventually goes and do the same thing šŸ˜ and iā€™m 100% sure that the writers just thought ā€œhaha funny scene this really straight deadly man does something not so convencional/more feminine(?) haha comedy relief time!!ā€ but it actually just made him have a whole perfect queer background developed in the series. specially with the fact that He Does Overcompensate. why is he always flirting with women, why is he so butch and scary, always talking about straight sex and so on? because heā€™s really just deep in the closet. and it makes so much sense with john being his father, with him having to hunt two lesbians nuns in his 17 bday, always having to be strong and macho and cool and perfectā€”and therefore straight. even without cas, dean really does immaculate the bissexual experience and iā€™m so sorry but this is just true.
and now pointing to the subtext that i mentioned in the first paragraph (lol i canā€™t believe iā€™m making a whole rant as to why dean winchester is a confirmed bisexual), that whole confession to that priest where he says he wants experience new feelings, new people, FOR THE FIRST TIME. that always that the show mentioned a gay couple it ALWAYS focused on deanā€”not sam, DEAN. the gay hunters, the gay couple on the bar that the cupid ā€œmadeā€, the two cosplayers partnersā€¦ the fact that every time that dean liked something it was borderline fangirl (gay) obsessive (the dr. sexy episode, that wrestler fighter). he Had a gay thingā€”and was all flustered about it. he flirted with a guy throughout charlie. THE MALE SIREN. the male siren like after that ep i was 100% convinced that man was not straight. he had a hot demon sumer with crowley?!!! and itā€™s so funny to me that not one of these things involves castiel, so if they really wanted to make dean be that straight why would they do that?? and only to dean, not even once to sam. Like. and not to mention all the homoeretic tension with benny??? sam never had a male best friend like that.. all of that and i didnā€™t even entered on destiel. Because this then really just confirms that he is Not straight. even if he wasnā€™t In Love with cas, they had something going on and the fact that if cas was a girl it would 100% be canon and filmed and Everyone would shipā€”and I really mean everyoneā€”it just makes me go fucking insane. they couldā€™ve had it all. the fanfic episodes, the parallels between dean and cas and ā€œreal couplesā€, ruby and cas duality and the fact that sam indeed had a relationship w/ her. Anyway iā€™m a # bi dean truth believer and i know this bc same boy # happy pride month to my fav bissexual boy in the whole world
also to anyone that says that ā€œdestielā€ was unrequited love yes it kinda of was but only bc dean was so deep in the closet, he did love cas. he was indeed a bissexual man. iā€™ll die on that hill.

Every time YouTube nonsense happens I'm always like "I can't wait to see what Sergle says about this" because you're the only person I follow that talks about YouTube nonsense.
Please take this is an invitation for you to talk about the Watcher's apology video lol
I am a filthy youtube enjoyer so you can absolutely count on me and GODDDDDDDDDDD... I mean the apology is not NEARLY as funny as the blunder, so it hasn't kept my attention as much but like the obligatory upfront thing is that, like, it is good that they posted it, they apologized for being insensitive and whatever, they're not scraping their channel clean or going forward with their old plan to only post their shows on their own platform, and these are technically good and correct things, because they could have pretended not to notice all the negative feedback. So like, responding is good. BUT LIKE I HAVE QUESTIONS NOW... Because they took SO LONG to film and upload a video that basically is just "we fucked up, we're sorry, we're not gonna do that anymore", which doesn't exactly take a writer's room several days to cook, but I DIGRESS... They were quiet for long enough for everyone to LOOK REALLY CLOSE. After the initial reaction, people had time to do some pretty comprehensive cost breakdowns for their stuff, and for what they have to be pulling in from adsense, sponsored segments, patreon, merch, and touring Like, they'd need to be really mismanaging their finances, because they're doing very well for themselves, making good, stable money, and the vids they make are super duper advertiser friendly. SO... you take long enough without putting out a holder statement or a quick heel-turn apology or anything, it gives people more time to get comfortable with not liking you, and also to dig around and google things about you, or scrape up info/trivia about you to corroborate their new opinion of you. It gets personal, is what I mean. So pulling this move has still, at BEST, caused some permanent damage to their relationships with fans, in both directions. They all got a huge flood of negative feedback, and even a perfect, emotionally mature, non-entitled person would have a negative reaction to people being upset with them at such a high volume. But now they're gonna remember the things that people have said about them, and there's no way that at the very least, Steven isn't gonna feel spiteful about this. People TOTALLY unloaded on him (funny) (valid) about his evangelical christian conservative leaning tesla privileged out of touch boy gold flaked ice cream eating ways. He definitely is going to remember that ppl said they never liked him in the first place. As for Ryan and Shane, people didn't have any dirt on them, but they definitely still received a lot of angry messages from people, most of which will have been reasonable, but they're gonna remember the really really mean and intense ones. Anyway, they made a booboo dumb enough for jack to want to make a skit about it, so for that I'm very grateful, because I thought it was really really fucking funny

Vedic Astrology Observation (based on shows/films part 6)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rewatching "Nevertheless" and yes Song Kang's character here is definitely more Ketu than Solar. His Solar nakshatra characters are seen in "My Demon", "Love Alarm". He specifically channels his Uttara Phalguni Moon in the kdrama My Demon especially, and his love interest is also an Uttara Phalguni. But in "Nevertheless", it is a whole nother nakshatra lord influence.
Tumblr media
The reason why I changed my mind on what energy he is channeling the most is because of Claire Nakti's Ketu Dominant Men video. He fits some of the negative descriptions.
Tumblr media
Every time a woman interacts with a Ketu man, she's so energetically and subconsciously pulled in by him (as is everyone), that she thinks she's gaining something from the experience but she leaves realizing how much she's depleted herself into him. But she's so subconsciously pulled in that she keeps coming back every time.
Tumblr media
Ketuvians are not necessarily known for being givers unless there's some other placement. But the emotions and excitement they evoke in others makes those people think they're receiving energy, when actually its their own energy shaking up and being extracted from them.
Tumblr media
This character will play into his magnetism, pull people in, then they'll realize they're one of the many he subconsciously (sometimes even deliberately) pulls energy from. Since Ketu wants to absorb everywhere, it makes sense seeing him breadcrumbing and stringing the female lead along while he keeps his numbers of chasers in his pockets (this trait is exaggerated in them being cult leaders or them liking to maintain large followings to extract more energies (again, sometimes they don't do this intentionally. look at magha native michael jackson's effortless effect on others)). Another reason why I think he's channeling his Ashwini Sun the most is because of his fear of commitment. Although it's more apparent in Ashwini women, the wild horse here doesn't want to settle down ever. His overall detachment to such things, the story leaving him mysterious (despite the ending) because we never go into his depths but we rather see him be this attractive sucking void that eventually becomes sickening to other women he strung along... The difference is, though Solar men can be womanizers, women often gain status and validation in association with them. With Ketu men, nothing much is gained, which is why they eventually become frustrating to women who'll then walk away.
Tumblr media
Another obvious thing, Ketuvians are mostly seen in spiritual spaces, learning about history or being into research, getting into interesting underground subcultures, and especially the arts. He "falls in love" (I don't believe that for one bit but sure) with a Vishakha Sun, Bharani Moon ā€“ Vishakha women dominate the arts and Bharani being a Venus nakshatra makes sense for her artistry.
Tumblr media
Being Jupiterian, she's quite meek and relatable. I believe the actress was channeling Vishakha, as its a nakshatra about transformation, and I believe her purpose in this story is finally standing up for herself to break free from the pattern of reliving a situation. But because of polarity, Ketu and Jupiter will always be drawn to each other. The best match for Ketu men is no one, in my humble opinion, though. They usually don't care about that anyway unless there's something to gain. They're quite similar to Ketu women. I've seen them be their best version with Ketu women. I could name a few examples of Ketu dynamics in fiction which don't have this exploitative aspect that Jupiter x Ketu pairings (platonic or not) usually do. There is a quiet understanding between the Ketu characters and a natural inclination to protect one another without even getting close, because of this unspoken connection they have. Such as in "Sweet Home", where Song Kang channels his Ketu energy yet again.
Tumblr media
He is drawn to the inwardly conflicted Magha Moon native Go Min-si. And due to his isolation, their connection isn't reliant on constant interactions, instead there is something there that's pulling them together in Season 1. In the later seasons, their protection of each other is more explored as their connection deepens through this horror story; his protection becoming a major aspect of their relationship. And because of the genres Ketuvians usually find themselves in, its rarely seen that these intense connections turn into some romantic endgame.(Ketuvians are the least likely planetary influence to be found in Romance, rather it's the Jupiterians, Saturnians and sometimes Solar natives. Instead, Ketu natives tend to be typecasted in the Thriller/Horror/Dark Fantasy genres).
youtube
In the same drama, there's another Ketu pairing between a mysterious contract killer and former detective (Ketu characters commonly being detectives) and a healer (also related to Ketu/the Ashwini Kumaras). He immediately grows protective of her and even dies protecting her. Their connection was almost instant and just as short-lived before death did them part (there always seems to be a theme of separation in these nodal/Ketu pairings). But she remains unforgettable as he becomes haunted by her even after death. (Ghosts = Ketu).
Tumblr media
youtube
In the kdrama "Save Me", there's another Ketu-Ketu connection in them playing protectors of each other. The Ketu male characters find themselves tied back to a Ketu girl. They are all tied by some kind of destiny that pulls them back to when they met. Despite the gap between them, this undeniable connection has them teaming up to save her from a cult.
Tumblr media
And, interesting enough, the cult leader who cruelly exploits the Ketu woman, and everyone else in his cult, is played by a Ketu native.
Tumblr media
This powerful, subconscious connection between Ketuvians (in these fictional depictions) is so interesting as the characters usually keep at a distance from each other initially, never having to get close to feel each other ā€” the connection is just naturally present. I specifically caught this when I rewatched the film "Through My Window", starring two Ketuvians.
Tumblr media
The Ashwini native here has an odd fixation on the Mula native. She stalks him and observes him from afar without ever getting close enough to meet him. But then when he catches her, a scene in the graveyard, he makes her aware that he knows. He would know that she's been engrossed in him (note, he also has Punarvasu Sun; Ketu x Jupiter strikes again, but his approach to her and their interactions are primarily Ketu x Ketu as he invades into her life (persistently stealing her WiFi connection, sneaking into her room whenever he wants), he strings her along and just like Ashwini native Song Kang in Nevertheless, we see him stringing along other female characters etc.). As Ketuvians are so in tune with the energies within themselves, they'd notice if someone were extracting energy from them on a subconscious level. His intuition (which led him into her life essentially), and her Ketu tendencies of absorbing him from afar, already tell us how Ketu would interact amongst itself. I could think of another stalking dynamic between two Ketuvians, from "Marvel's Jessica Jones".
Tumblr media
The Ashwini here is yet again obsessed with the Mula native. He used his superpowers to force her to be in a relationship with him and even after she escapes from his clutches, he means to regain his control over her to prove that she can love him willingly; yet again trying to drain her (very important to note that she also has Purva Bhadrapada ASC (Ketu yet again draining Jupiter)).
In the film "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" starring two Ashwini natives, we see these characters form an unconventional bond ā€“ both having deep intrigue for each other, before developing this strong urge to look out for one another. It's not romantic, lacking that Venusian quality of connection we usually see. Instead it's very rare, complex, and created in darker or unconventional circumstances (literally all these Ketuvians bond amidst chaos or some unusual circumstance).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It always seems as if almost every Ketu character drawn to each other can't just have a long-lasting "relationship". Even trying to reduce their indescribable connection to a mundane romantic relationship doesn't do them justice. Ashwini natives aren't typically relationship-orientated, anyway.
Usually a romance between Ketuvians in fiction can be depicted as ethereal, intense and just as short-lived, such as in the film "Meet Joe Black". A love that is shown to transcend time and reality, and so temporary and fleeting.
Tumblr media
The film needs an analysis of its own as it stars three Mula natives as its leads. But Ketu here reminds us how fleeting existence is. The Mula Sun native playing Death himself, in parallel to how Ketu can drain and take important things or people away. Death is drawn to a double Ketuvian woman, who happens to be the daughter of the man he is taking away to the afterlife.
Tumblr media
The Ketu woman is specifically drawn to his mystery and his innocence, sensing something off about him yet being pulled in by his innocent mysticism. A very bittersweet relationship develops between them that has this looming reality that he is not human and something inevitably heartbreaking is soon to take place. Very much getting into 8H themes, unsurprising as Ketu co-rules the 8H.
Here's the most Ketu "non-romantic" pairing edit with such 8H themes.
youtube
God I love them sm.
Also, going back to "Sweet Home", I just realized a prominent Ketu aspect. Claire Nakti's Mula/Ketu explorations mainly revolved around Ketuvians being unafraid of beasts and being the main planetary influence that is often seen in roles where they tame monsters, being the only human to see which creatures (no matter how hideous and ugly on the outside) are actually innocent.
The beauty-&-beast dynamic between Casey and Kevin, played by two Ashwini natives, in Glass, reminds me of the dynamic between Hyun soo (Ashwini) and Eun yoo (Magha).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Ashwini pair, much like the Ashwini pair in "Sweet Home" (the detective and the healer/doctor), inevitably separate from 8H circumstances.
These characters below, in Sweet Home Season 2 & 3, are the main ones to embody this Mula archetype ā€“ even though they're trine nakshatras. This further validates Go Min-si being Magha Moon, as she's the only one who sees the humanity in Ashwini Sun Song Kang's monstrous character (the 2 edits i linked of them literally explore this beauty-&-the-beast trope of Ketu fantastically).
Tumblr media
On the left is the soldier played by Ashwini Moon Oh-seong Yu who, despite his tough exterior, has a soft spot for these monsters which makes him a threatening outlier in the team. Damn only if Claire Nakti added kdramas to her explorations too, she'd find more nakshatra archetypes! But honestly I appreciate her work so much because I'm able to spot influences she touched on in my favourite medias.

in light of the rwrb movie releasing and everyone sharing their opinions, i just thought i'd share mine real quick.
i loved this movie with my whole heart.
i totally get the readers who are upset at certain scenes being cut, along with some things being changed. i get being attached to something that you hold very dearly to you and seeing it be altered which might be a bit disappointing at first. but honestly. this movie was the cheesy queer romcom that we needed.
don't get me wrong, i live for in-depth internal monologs and borderline poetry, but i also think it's more than ok for movies to just be sweet and simple. and with saying that, this movie wasn't that sweet and simple. it talked about quite a few very important issues, which i so so appreciate, all while keeping that lovesick romcom feeling to it.
i feel like nowadays many romance shows and films have a sort of aggressiveness to them. like they don't fully show the depth of gentle, loving relationships and that's a main reason why so many people seem to have forgotten what love really is. so they see movies like this and call them cringe or just hate on them in general. and i think this film will show young queer people everywhere that it's ok to want a soft relationship and that they're seen. if the prince and first son can do it, so can you.
although things were changed a bit, i believe this movie will be a comfort for many. plus, you can't fit every line from a 400-something page book in a 2 hour film, even if some things were cut out. and it's ok to spice things up a bit by adding different lines.
(like the rawness of the "i won't trade one prison for another" line? wow)
and sure it was sort of fast paced, but that's to be expected. no adaption is going to be page-to-page perfect. that's why we have our imaginations. (and nick and taylor blew the no chemistry allegations out of the water, so we didn't even have to worry about that.)
i know some people watch things specifically to critique them, but i focus more on how the movies and series make me feel. and this movie. this movie was pure happiness for me.
all in all, this is my new comfort movie, and i hope the same for many others. like i said, every opinion on this is completely valid, but i just wanted to share my viewpoint.
(and who knows, maybe amazon will be kind enough to put out the directors cut.)

yes i'm rooting for m*leven breakup because byler is neat but mostly? i'm rooting for m*leven breakup for the sake of el and mike.
to me, their romance was always a puppy love born out of a combination of social pressures, naĆÆve curiosity, and a lack of true understanding regarding intimacy and romantic love and what it really is. it was real in that they do truly, deeply care about each other and they are close friends, maybe even shared an attraction, but a maturing romance is so much more than that. they've grown up and out of being boyfriend/girlfriend, and that's okay! i think television/film needs to show more often that most of us don't have definite "soulmates" or first childhood loves that we spend our whole lives with. it doesn't mean these relationships meant nothing and didn't impact us, it just means they've run their course and that something else is in the cards, and this is part of life!
i've always felt el was at her best and most confident self when broken up with mike, discovering who she was and what she liked alongside another girl her age instead of just relying on mike for mentorship on how to live in the real world. she deserves more of an opportunity to find herself, her autonomy, and her independence, and to love who she is, and she's made it clear she's felt insecure in the relationship with mike because she isn't being loved and understood the way she wants, needs, and deserves from someone who is her partner.
also, it's okay if mike doesn't love her in "the way he should". he is not obligated to love her romantically and stay in a relationship with her just because she's a girl, because she "needed someone", or because he cares about her a lot. he shouldn't be pressured into a romance if it's not truly coming from his heart. he deserves freedom to find out and honour who he is, too, instead of just staying in his non-functional first relationship ā€” one he got into as a child, essentially ā€” and defining himself that way because it's what's expected when a boy and a girl are close. he loves her in some way, yes, but it's okay if he doesn't feel comfortable or secure being her boyfriend anymore, for whatever reason that is. he's felt insecure too, and that's valid and it matters.
they are their own people and are steadily growing and changing every day. they need time to figure out who those people are, and it's become clear (at least in my opinion) that those people aren't meant to be a couple at this stage.
they deserve freedom. they deserve to grow up and be authentic to themselves and not feel like they need to lie for the sake of a relationship. they deserve to move on from this version of their relationship that isn't making them happy and rekindle the best part of their bond: their strong, beautiful friendship. they don't have to be a couple if it doesn't make them stronger and better and happier people.
i think it would be healthy and wonderful for a show, especially one consumed frequently by young adults, to show a relationship starting, progressing, and ending on good terms in this way. sometimes things don't work out, and that is okay.

Elaborating on my previous Oda romance/LuNami post
For the ones who read my previous long post analyzing Oda's thoughts on romance in One Piece + LuNami, thank you!
I'd like to elaborate on some things right here in case some people may misinterpret some of my viewpoints on how Oda portrays LuNami. So, one thing I see many LuNami fans point out is that Oda making LuNami subtle in his manga is on purpose, which I do wholeheartedly agree with! While it definitely is intentionally subtle, my post was to point out WHY that is the case, because Oda goes out of his way to show off the more clichƩ or "obvious" stuff in non-manga material, while the manga basically exclusively contains subtle things, indicating that there is something holding him back from putting this clichƩ stuff in his main story, which is what 95% of the content Oda makes even comes from. And as I pointed out in the post, I think it's him wanting to appeal to boys. I do think that if it wasn't for that, plus his shyness about romance, that he would put in more obvious clichƩ things in his manga, as he seems to be doing that for his non-manga material.
Now, this subtlety LuNami has in the manga is what draws many LuNami fans to the ship, which makes a ton of sense no doubt, in the manga it's basically the ship's bread and butter. My post wasn't to say "Omfg stop being subtle forget your audience and put in obvious shit in your manga Oda!" Nope, definitely not. My post was to point out that he truly DOES see LuNami as romantic and the reason I pointed it out in the first place is because it's so subtle in the manga that some people need convincing that the subtleties in the manga are truly LuNami hints and not just something you can dismiss like all the naysayers do.
This is why I talked about the non-canon material so much in that post, to prove how it's obvious that he DOES really like LuNami because of how the non-manga shit is so much more obvious with LuNami hints. Mr. "I think romance is a good idea for Film: Gold" also said "OP is a shounen manga ffs, no romance depicted lmao". Totally different statements, one for his manga, one for an optional movie... hmm, there's no way my post has any sort of validity!
By the way when Oda said "no romance depicted" he's not full of shit or whatever, he clearly refers to obvious romances stories that aren't subtle hints like how he portrayed LuNami in the manga. Every time he mentions romance it's clear he means the obvious stuff, of course I think it's obvious how UsoKaya is basically canon but there's no dedicated romance story between them in the manga.
This predicament that I think Oda is in with making it subtle in his manga and less subtle outside his manga, is why LuNami seems so easy to trivalize for so many people. Because in the manga it's so subtle that people can easily just go "Nah that is not what it means" and in non-manga material it's like "No man it's non-canon bullshit who cares it's not in the manga". But see, these people saying this is exactly what I think Oda wants his boy audience to think! So... good job I guess!
Now, I know that I may seem to be putting in just a bit too much stock into Oda being restricted by his audience, which yeah I do see why you would think so if you happen to think that. However he keeps bringing up his readers, over and over and over AND OVER AND OVER again when nobody even asked him about that, dude.
Some guy asks: "So uhh who does Nami like?" Oda: "Uhh this is for boys and they don't care man"
The guy: Umm... I didn't ask for that but thanks?
Aoyama: "I wouldn't leave if you do romantic stuff"
Oda: "Well shit, PEOPLE seem so supportive of couples huh!?"
You uhh, seem a bit too concerned with the opinions of "people" and there's a bit too much "shounen shounen manga boys boys boys" when NOBODY ASKED YOU to talk about them in your answers for it. How should that not to arouse suspicion in me?
And those 2 examples aren't even the only time he's like that.
Buuut, I think this is all I gotta say... for now I think. I might edit this post to further elaborate on stuff later, no promises but I'll think about it!

Okay, after having a few days to process, I am allowing myself one vent post to get it out of my system and then itā€™s back to āœØpositive vibesāœØ only
If I see one more goddamn smarmy post about how ā€œthe writing was on the wall the whole timeā€ (with the undercurrent of ā€œyou were too stupid to see it, I have the only valid interpretationā€) Iā€™m going to lose it
Had we not had 8x05, the breakup still would have bummed me out, but I would have said, you know what, fair, we didnā€™t see a whole lot of their relationship, a lot of it was fanon and headcanons. We had a good run. But we did get 8x05, apparently some of it filmed out of order knowing a breakup was coming, and what was the point? To be cruel? It felt like a slap in the face to people who liked that relationship.
They could have laid some groundwork to show some cracks in the relationship, but no. Ignoring disingenuous interpretations from people who have been rooting for the ship to crash and burn since day one, 8x05 established Buck & Tommy as a solid couple. Tommy gets along with Eddie, the three of them had great chemistry together. Tommy takes care of Buck when heā€™s hurt. Tommy thinks the curse is a bunch of bs (as does Eddie) but still went with Buck to have a funeral for a mummy. Itā€™s like I watched someone cook an elaborate, delicious dinner for me and then they immediately threw it in the trash, and other people around me made fun of me for being blindsided and upset because I should have seen that coming.
I wonā€™t pretend the general audience is a monolith who all have the same opinions. Iā€™m sure there are people who donā€™t care and just shrugged their shoulders that another relationship of Buckā€™s fizzled out. But I have 2 friends who watch the show and arenā€™t Fandom Fans, and they are always my barometer for how people who donā€™t have brain rot (affectionate) feel about the show. One really liked the relationship, the other was neutral to mildly negative on it, and both of them agreed that it felt like the breakup came out of nowhere and made no sense given the context of the previous episode. So please stop pretending that itā€™s only BT fandom fans who have their knickers in a twist about how it played out.
If this isnā€™t leading to buddie, then I donā€™t want to see another love interest for either Buck or Eddie for the rest of the show. Tommy had so much potential to break the cycle of Buckā€™s love interests (and interviews from last season seem to support that they were aware of this and planning on utilizing that) and throwing it away feels like such a waste.
So yeah, instead of being just bummed, Iā€™m pissed. I do not know if there was BTS drama or if Tim got some other grand idea for Buckā€™s storyline this season ā€” but given how plots are adopted and dropped at rapid fire pace this season (something I was willing to forgive last season because of the shortened production timeline and fewer episodes), Iā€™m highly skeptical that thereā€™s any sort of overarching plan here.
Iā€™ve never thought buddie would actually happen on the show, but I also never thought either Buck or Eddie would ever be anything other than straight, so Iā€™d be happy to be proven wrong. Iā€™m just a little jaded by seeing people doing a victory lap convinced that buddie canon is imminent when I think that they are giving the writers a lot more credit than they deserve for supposedly crafting this epic love story for the last five or so years when a lot of that is also just generous fanon interpretation. I need explicit confirmation within the show by the end of this season that at least one of them has caught feelings or Iā€™m over entertaining the possibility it will actually happen.
I know the joy will come back. But I really hope the same plot lines playing out ad nauseam for every character stops because Iā€™m getting a little tired.

I have to say this because I am offended as a woman who grew up with Barbie AND He-Man. I don't hate the Barbie movie because it isn't in tuned with my politics. I hate it because it's not really about Barbie at all. It is an imposter. Barbie is feminist, but NOT a radical feminist. She is diplomatic, kind, she loves men and considers them as her equal, and she wants everyone to be confident and kind. As for Ken, he would never turn on her because he is faithful, intelligent, kind and capable. He is not a boob who is under her thumb.
The Barbie movie is not about Barbie. It's about all of the misconceptions we have of Barbie just as I suspected it would. And I have every right to be displeased about that. And you know what else? So does anyone else including men.
If women are allowed to hate Masters of the Universe: Revelations because it is a badly written show that doesn't respect the lore, then men are allowed to not like the Barbie movie for the same reasons especially if those reasons are sound. Yes, I'm sure some of them hate it for sexist reasons, but the majority of men I see hating on the Barbie movie hate it for the same reasons I do and I'm a woman. If anything, I'm glad men respect Barbie enough to see the film is wrong. The problem is that the media is only talking about what the sexist men are saying blatantly ignoring what all the other fans are saying.
But then again, what did we expect? The same thing happened with Netflix She-Ra and Masters of the Universe: Revelations. When fans donā€™t like a new product because it doesnā€™t respect the lore and feels like imposter media, we get accused of being bigoted in some way or the other. We are like that lone honest kid who calling out that the Emperor is naked, but is then told to shut up because theyā€™re upsetting everyone. In other words, we live in a time right now where if you ever admit you donā€™t like something even for the most valid reason, you are either silenced, ignored or made out to be the bad guy.
However, it is all the more reason to keep being honest. And Hollywood knows it because even it canā€™t run from the truth forever.
And I think itā€™s reached the phase where it is getting out of breath from trying to.
PS: I donā€™t want my son to grow up in a society where his free speech, including the freedom to give an opinion on a movie of all things, is either limited or prohibited just because heā€™s a boy/man while the girl/woman next to him can say anything she wants about anything she chooses.
Like I said before, if women can say what they want about He-Man, men can say what they want about Barbie. Period.

i deleted my previous rantpost bc i realised the rb made it look like i was just Agreeing lol. and i donā€™t want to give it any more notes but this post made me crazy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like first of all i personally mostly see richie written in fics/hcs as someone who is highly sensitive and self-conscious but covers up with humour, general dickishness etc. which like. is entirely how heā€™s shown to us in the book? the films donā€™t let us into his psyche very much but like canonly that is richie. the idea that the concept of his vulnerable side is taken from him Crying In The Movie is nuts. as someone whos been in this fandom for 7 years, exaggerated crybaby uwu portrayal is just straight up not a popular hc at all šŸ˜
as for him bottoming again i see a variety of different portrayals of reddie Sex Life. if anything ur way more likely to see comments of like ā€˜no wayyy would he bottomā€™ etc under stuff like that ab richie. it makes sense for their dynamic (eddieā€™s kind of a bossy control freak who hates to be coddled, richie loves attention and validation) so itā€™s understandable why ppl like it. i know this is all common knowledge itā€™s just genuinely weird to me that this could be interpreted as offensive.
re every post about richie being to ā€˜degradeā€™ him, thatā€™s just how the ppl of tumblr communicate lol. whereā€™s that post thatā€™s like ā€˜im giving my fave character the highest rewardā€¦bad at sex, horrible mental health issues, etcā€™. i donā€™t think many ppl want to blog about how hot and awesome and successful this made up guy is all day.
nobody is ignoring some blatantly obvious bisexual plot for richie in the book bc that doesnā€™t exist. not saying u canā€™t read him that way cuz i always read him as queer (if anything i think the most prominent reading that jumps out for richie is a trans one) but like. less so ā€˜erasureā€™ and moreso ā€˜ppl having different opinions to uā€™.
PS pls point me to these ppl who apparently all hc richie as transfem so we can be mutuals and bffsā€¦

What makes you know hobie is 18 or above? And not the in the same age range as miles and gwen
Honestly, great question. And the answer is:
I Don't Know Jack Shit. So jot that down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally, anyone telling you they DO know Jack Shit is a liar. Jot that down too.
[I may go a little Miguel Mode at the end of you know what I mean]
I personally operate under the headcanon that Hobie is over 18.
Why? He says he goes to pubs. You need to be over 18 to do that. The End.
You can headcanon that he has a fake id or simply finds himself in pubs while underage - and that's completely valid. Go ahead. You can headcanon he has a mfing tail. I can't stop you and we haven't seen his ass so maybe he do, who knows.
But my headcanon is just that. And to me - until Hobie's age is clearly displayed and mentioned on screen, then it'll always be a headcanon.
No matter what age you headcanon him as - if you think you KNOW his age, you're probably wrong. And I mean that.
Tumblr media
The ATSV describes him as a 'slightly older boy'. Case closed, right? He's a minor then.
Nah, three lines later they say he's MUCH older than Miles....literally contradicting themselves within the same paragraph.
[And the funny thing is - I've seen the artbook used as evidence in the argument multiple times. Even though it literally contradicts itself. And every single time I'm like 'bruh did you even read the full page come on now'.]
Case in point, if you think you KNOW Hobie's age when 1) it's not stated on screen and 2) even the official external material gives conflicting information - you're just wrong. You can't know a theoretical number. And you can't be wrong about a theoretical number.
It's Schrodinger's age.
Example: A character is shown to be in High School. They live in New Jersey where the driving age is 16. If a fanfic writer has the character say "I can't do that, I can't drive yet.", is the fanfic writer canonically wrong? No. Because the character could reasonably be above OR below the driving age, either 14-18. Even if the director mentions the character having a sweet-16 that is never mentioned in the show, it's not screen-canon and the average viewer will not know the character is definitely over 16. Therefore they can reasonable be 15.
"But the director said-"
Don't care. Not weighted canon unless stated on-screen.
Maybe this is a controversial opinion. But if it's not on screen, I can't say it's canon.
Sure, the director may have said in an outside interview that Hobie's conceptually 19-20 -
But a normal person who goes to see the movie, and comes home to write fanfiction isn't going to know what.
They shouldn't have to dig through all conceptual and external content of a specific character in order to be deemed 'acceptable' and knowledgeable enough to write about them.
A person who watches the movie and writes solely based off of what the movie says about Hobie shouldn't be harassed or told they're wrong because they didn't listen to a podcast of a director who's name they don't even know.
There's no pass that says 'Okay you've done enough research about Hobie to write about him, congrats-'
If it's not in the movie, show, book, etc - a fan should not be required to seek out that information to be caught up to speed. External information is supplemental, not a part of the hole.
Also-
If it's not in the movie - It DOESN'T MATTER.
ATSV is a very well written movie. Every line is used for the purpose of telling the story. Especially Hobie's.
They didn't tell us Hobie's age because it didn't matter to the story. And it shouldn't matter to you.
If the writers didn't care enough to take time out to clarify his age, then it makes no sense to spend take arguing about it.
They obviously don't find it important. Because it isn't. It doesn't matter to the story at all.
Hobie's age doesn't matter to the 'love triangle'. Although the film is narrated by Gwen, we largely see it from Miles' point of view. And the 'love triangle' only exists when Mile has no concept of who Hobie is.
Miles doesn't know Hobie. So him questioning a love triangle happens regardless of whether Hobie is an adult or not. Miles doesn't know, neither do we.
The 'Hobie' in the 'love triangle' is an empty-shell of the mystery of who Hobie COULD be. The moment Hobie takes off the mask and we're revealed to the real him - the illusion of who he could've been is shattered for both us and Miles.
Because his age isn't stated, it has no bearing on Miles' perception of him. Miles don't know shit. Neither do we.
Tumblr media
Also you people should be fucking grateful GODDAMN WTF
If you deadass beef about this you one ungrateful mfer i swear. Take offense. All offense.
We have a black, attractive, educated, useful, respected character in an animated movie that's available for ANY SHIP with ANY character and what do you people do??? - you argue.
Why? Explain to me why.
You should be happy it's up to interpretation and not definitely stated that you were wrong. At any time the creators could just put it in the next movie and make you look stupid.
You could be out there enjoying any ship of your choosing; with any character you enjoy him with - regardless of age. But no, instead of enjoying the ship that's available to you, you antagonize others.
Sit there and eat your mfing salad you INGRATE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Be grateful we have a character with such free range of shipping. A character that's un-aged and doesn't have a specific gender preference. BE THANKFUL.
You like Gwen x Hobie. Great. You argue with people and harass people who think Hobie's an adult??? - What if Hobie deadass looked in the camera next movie and said "I'm 19 also I'm gay." You'd look dumb as hell.
But they didn't do that. They left it unstated for you to go and enjoy your Hobie x Gwen or Hobie x Miguel or Hobie x whoever the hell.
I'm thankful everyday they didn't say his age because I don't make OCs that go to high school because I'm 24 and hate high school. And guess what, I can do that.
Him and Diane can just hang out on the houseboat all day cause they're grown ass adults with no place to be. Isn't that swell?
Stop playing with me and enjoy the goddamn shipping buffet. Christ almighty
All in all - I don't know shit. You don't know shit. And it's okay to not know shit.
NO UM-AKSCHULLY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Get comfortable with saying "I'm not the authority on this." or better yet "I don't know shit about nothing."
I love him to death, but I am not the authority on Hobie Brown.
For me - I know he said he goes to pubs and I know I wanted to ship him with Diane. Personality wise, Diane is 19. So Hobie is 19.
But I don't know anything about his age. No one does.
I'm just cute and like to share headcanons. Hobie Brown as of right now doesn't have an age. And that's fine. Cause he ain't real.
If you made it this far ummmmmm Here he is. I'm giving you this photo under the condition that you'll act right and enjoy him in a ship of your choosing if you'd like to do that.
Now lets sit here, and eat this ship salad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[me making sure ur enjoying ur shipping salad]
Bye.

Things that have definitely been said in YJ (the Cartoon)
M'gann: WAIT WALLY DON'T EAT- that....
Kaldur: Wally, that was a highly dangerous and toxic object. You should go immediately to the hospital
Wally, with his mouth full of one of M'gann's failed attempts at mixing martian and human cuisine: Mmmhph????
The team: *Arguing*
Tim, whispering to himself: We don't kill we don't kill we don't kill we don't kill we don't kill-
Kaldur: Your opinion is valid, yes, but given it is a stupid ass opinion, I have elected to ignore it
Wally, following Artemis around the place, gesturing wildly: Yeah but if you add water to water it grows, right? It makes sense, Artemis, it makes senseā€“
Artemis, covering her ears and groaning: *Whispers* I hate every single one of you
Dick, filming the whole thing: *Snorts and accidentally chokes on his saliva, causing him to fall on the floor coughing like crazy*
Conner, having just walked into the room: ...Nope. Bye. I'm leaving this team
Artemis: Honestly I think Dick Grayson is way better than Bruce Wayne
M'gann: He's also more handsome, not gonna lie...
Wally: *Laughing his ass off on the floor*
Dick, curled up inside the vents, holding his head with his hands: Worthless... you are all worthless...
Conner, unaware of heterosexuality because CADMUS didn't teach him all that stuff: Wait, girl's aren't supposed to like girls? And boys aren't supposed to love boys? But I thought humans were called ā€˜homosapiensā€™
Zatanna: Oh my god-
Wally: I'm so smart. The smartest person here, if you will
Artemis: ...ā€œsHoULdN't wE cAll sTrAiGht pEoPlE hEtERoSaPiEnS?ā€
Wally: Shut up shut up shutupshutup SHUT UP-
Kaldur, sighing: I just- I just want to know why you threw Wally off the mountain
Conner: Wally dared me to. It was consensual
Kaldur: Conner that doesn't make it any better.
Zatanna: I have decided to blame every kind of emotional instability I've having on my period. I don't have it yet, but I'm about to, so it counts
Kaldur: *Sigh* What did you do
Kaldur: Wally GET OFF THE CEILING honestly I should not have to say that...
Jaime: Fuck.
Bart: Double fuck.
Both of them at the same time: Triple fucking fuck
Wally: Hey, who's the stupidest one here?
Everyone else: You
Wally: Oh
Wally: And that's how you finish this equation!
Artemis: Wait you know science?
Wally: ...yes? Did you think I didn't go to school?
Artemis: No, no, it's just that if I had to think of someone who is an expert in science I wouldn't think of you
Wally: Well that's just rude. Hey M'gann, do I look like I didn't go to school?
Artemis: I didn't say you didn't go to-
Conner, immediately appearing: Yes
Wally:
Zatanna: Oh yeah! I remember when a branch on fire almost fell on me. We were camping. It was a big branch.
Zatanna:
Zatanna: I almost died.
Dick, didn't get any sleep in two days: Milk is... bone juice. Calcium...
Wally, also didn't get any sleep in two days: I feel like I should be concerned about that statement but honestly I'm interested
M'gann, who cannot stand being around them while they're sleep deprived: Both of you. Sleep. Now. Please
Dick: Baby
Tim: What
Dick: Baby... baby brother. Baby
Tim: No
Jason, has been Robin for almost three months now, training with the team and having to pretend to be a ā€˜villainā€™: I will hold your decapitated head in front of your weeping mother and hang it on her ceiling so that you will never get any rest even after death! :D
The team:
Wally: Dick, what are you feeding this child?
Kaldur after Wally and Dick pranked the team: Violence is not the question nor the answer, but sometimes we must take drastic measures
Kaldur, handing Jason a sword: This is war.

been thinking about some peoples complaints about how the movie handled alex's coming out as opposed to the book.
part of me understands because the movie did sort of neuter this as well as the depth of henry's mental illness, but at the same time i understand why. the movie is already two hours long and tbh if they wanted to do a fully faithful adaptation (which imo is not necessary) it maybe should've been a mini series.
and aside from taking out liam, tbh i still think that all happened just wasn't shown, and the fact that this is why alex has always known he's "lowkey into dudes" i feel like people don't fully grasp what alex goes through in that time after new years in the movie.
not every bisexual person has the same experience, but i can relate to alex pretty well both in the book and in the movie in terms of his sexuality cause they actually are pretty similar.
a lot of times when you're bisexual you just feel like everyone feels this way. you sort of feel like being straight is what being bisexual is, because the idea that others do not experience attraction to the same and different genders sounds... fake. like. i'm not even joking when i say i have a hard time believing straight people exist. i fully, of course, believe gay people exist, but people being straight and not queer at all makes me ??? sometimes, even now that i have identified as bi for over ten years.
then, there is a pretty big difference between knowing you experience same gender attraction from time to time and actively identifying as a bisexual person, as a queer person, a member of the lgbtq community.
bisexuals, to this day, are made to feel like we do not belong by both heterosexual people and our own community (which is why ellen telling alex the b in lgbtq is not a silent letter realllly matters) so sometimes you really do just shut out that part of yourself and choose to see yourself as straight because it's not worth fighting all the biphobia that you face, but it's still a part of you that you are shutting out and repressing, which is what alex was doing with henry the entire time and where his alleged dislike of him comes from in the first place. henry hates how much he loves alex so he's mean to him, alex doesn't understand why henry is mean to him because he wants henry to like him because he ALSO has feelings for him and those things clash.
during the time that henry ghosts him alex has time to evaluate himself, his feelings and his identity. he has the time to say "this is not something that i am going to ignore about myself anymore" and it may not be as magnified as it is for henry because they're in different positions in terms of support systems, it's still powerful.
when he comes out to henry, you can tell he is getting used to thinking of himself as bisexual but you can also tell that he is nervous to say the word, because telling someone you're bi is ALWAYS terrifying because you don't know what they might say to it. on top of that, you can feel that it is important to him to say it, to tell henry who he is now that he understands it.
being bisexual and identifying that way, and that being part of who you are and carrying it in your heart is a different thing than being like "yeah, whatever i'll make out with someone at a party" even if the latter is still a valid way to be queer. and sometimes you just look back and realize that [x] experience was NEVER straight.
and the best part of the movie to me is henry's complete acceptance of this. henry never ever questions alex's attraction to him, he never questions if alex will be able to stay committed to him, if he will leave him for a woman, if he's confused, or any of the things that STILL happen in media with bisexual characters as leads and as a bisexual person that has been one of the most freeing things to watch.
so yes, alex's bisexuality is still very important and handled as such in the film, in my personal bisexual opinion.
