International Cuisine in Pubs and Restaurants
A captivating change is taking place in the culinary environment as a result of our more linked world. This evolution goes beyond borders, celebrates variety, and takes diners on a gourmet voyage throughout the world. As a culinary concept, "dining beyond borders" reflects the ideals of intercultural dialogue and fusion rather than merely a passing fad. In this research, we explore the rich tapestry of International Cuisine in Pubs and Restaurants that are influencing restaurant and bar menus. Chefs are taking inspiration from various culinary traditions to create meals that are both distinctive and globally influenced, pushing the boundaries of taste in surprising ways.

Celebrating a Wide Range of Cuisines —
Where Cultures Collide: The Global Kitchen -
Entering a contemporary bar or eatery will probably lead you to a menu that resembles a flavour atlas. By fusing products, methods, and traditions from all across the globe, chefs are diving headfirst into the diverse fabric of global cuisine. Beyond simple fusion, this culinary cross-pollination is a graceful waltz that honours the veracity of each culinary culture while generating something wholly own.
A Rise in Cross-Cultural Fusion-
The lifeblood of International Cuisine in Pubs and Restaurants is cross-cultural fusion. Rather than limiting themselves to just one type of cuisine, chefs nowadays are experimenting with fusions of Asian, European, African, and Latin American influences. And what was the outcome? A culinary symphony that mirrors the interdependence of all people on Earth.
The Chef as Cultural Ambassador -
Culinary Passport -
Modern cooks are more than simply experts in the kitchen; they are also cultural ambassadors who bring people from all over the globe together via their cuisine. Chefs are exposing customers to flavours from around the world that aren't commonly found in restaurants, drawing inspiration from their experiences travelling, interacting with people, and being plain curious about food. Indulge in a culinary journey through the complexities of several cuisines as each meal takes you on a new adventure.
Integrating Cultures: Authenticity
Although chefs take pleasure in exploring different ingredients and techniques from throughout the world, maintaining authenticity is their guiding concept. Rather than appropriating other people's cultures, we should be celebrating diversity with reverence. Chefs put in countless hours of research and teamwork to make sure every dish has a story—a genuine story that captures the spirit of the culinary heritage it comes from.
International Menu Influences -
Inspirations from across Asia -
When it comes to international fusion cuisine, Asian flavours are always a crowd pleaser. Restaurants and bars are putting together menus that highlight the variety of Asian food, from spicy Thai curries to umami-rich Japanese dishes. Chefs are getting creative with the flavours of different parts of Asia, creating dishes like sushi burritos, Korean BBQ tacos, and pizza with Thai influences.
Mediterranean Mixtures -
Fusion cuisines can find a fertile ground in the Mediterranean, thanks to its sun-drenched ingredients and bright flavours. You can find dishes on menus that combine flavours from all over the world, including those from Greece, Italy, Spain, and more. Imagine a genuine homage to the Mediterranean's gastronomic riches with dishes like paella with a Moroccan twist or flatbread with Greek toppings like hummus and tzatziki.
Latino Vibes—
With their infectious rhythms and symphony of flavours, Latin American cuisine makes its way onto the menus of restaurants and bars around the world. The vibrant combination of Latin American inspirations with global culinary traditions is on full display in tacos filled with Korean BBQ, ceviche that combines Peruvian and Japanese flavours, and tapas that draw inspiration from Brazil.
European Ecléctica -
Modern takes on time-honored European dishes are also on the rise. Imagine ramen with a French twist or burgers with an Italian spin. A meal as varied as Europe itself is the product of chefs boldly bridging the gap between different culinary traditions.
African Fusion Eats
African cuisine, with its varied and flavorful traditions, is starting to make an impression on dinner tables around the world. Southern African stews sometimes include North African spices, while Caribbean jerk chicken and West African jollof rice are common culinary pairings. This dish is a jubilation of all the African flavours and components.
Chef Patron's Odyssey -
Eating My Way Around the World -
Diners embark on a culinary journey when they dine abroad; it's more than just a meal. Every item on the menu is like a plane ticket to a different continent. The menu itself is like a passport. Nowadays, diners can indulge in a wide variety of cuisines from around the world, liberated from the constraints of a single culinary tradition.
Invitation to Expand Palates
Travelling to different countries for a meal is a great way to try new things and broaden your taste buds. It welcomes customers who aren't afraid to try new things, tastes diverse cuisines, and pushes them out of their comfort zones. Around the dinner table, people from all walks of life join together to share a common language: food.
Global Fusion's Future -
A Food Paradise -
We should expect the concept of "dining beyond borders" to solidify its place in the culinary ethos in the years to come. Chefs will keep inventing novel flavour combinations and challenging guests to think outside the box. Diversity is embraced and cultural interchange takes place bite-by-bite in the global fusion movement, which is more than simply a trend; it's a reflection of our linked globe.
Global Cuisine Sustainability—
An emphasis on long-term viability is essential to global fusion's future. More and more, chefs are thinking about how their food impacts the environment and are making an effort to get ingredients in a responsible way. Ethical and ecological cuisine are at the heart of dining abroad, not just flavour.
Conclusion:
Dining abroad is a way for restaurants and bars around the world to honour the variety of cultures that make up our global community. There's a new culinary trend that's paying homage to the old while looking forward to a future where flavours are limitless. The diverse array of flavours, aromas, and textures that chefs are incorporating into their dishes is sure to take diners on a culinary journey that knows no boundaries as they look forward to the continued exploration of different cuisines. The next time you look at a menu with international influences, keep in mind that you're not merely eating; you're starting a trip that goes beyond boundaries and brings people together via cuisine.

Some important analysis from mrc on X about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle being aware of the work and actions of the 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝 bullying campaign of Princess Catherine [Part 2 of 2] Credit: @brigantia__ Dated 19th June 2024 by u/Negative_Difference4
Some important analysis from mrc on X about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle being aware of the work and actions of the 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝 bullying campaign of Princess Catherine [Part 2 of 2] Credit: @brigantia__ Dated 19th June 2024 "𝟮/𝟯. In March 2024 Markle and Harry's '𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝' was named in the New York Times as the source of 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 of the social media conspiracies about the Princess of Wales. Conspiracies that were then weaponised by foreign organisations to create distrust in British institutions. Not only that, numerous rumours and conspiracies the Sussex Squad had been pushing hit mainstream US media. And weeks later, members of the 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝 participated in Harry and Markle's Nigeria Invictus visit. A visit that was meticulously planned and orchestrated, with strict security and media control. 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙤 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙,𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨.𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙩𝙬𝙤 (𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴)"https://reddit.com/link/1doz7na/video/8i1uamxk6x8d1/player"𝟯/𝟯. clearly Markle and Harry, both having had a long history of personal and professional social media use,are fully aware of what their 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝 do in their name. And, given their (ironic and hypocritical) social media advocacy, they 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 be aware. They have both acknowledged (directly and indirectly) their online fans and their Sussex Squad. And have shown their understanding of the Sussex Squad's ability to trend social media topics, and to pushback against unwanted media and public content about them. On numerous occasions Markle and Harry have targeted the Sussex Squad for support as customers and online engagement - Global Citizen and Markle's Clevr Blends being just two examples. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧'𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭.This year Markle and Harry pre-planned and pre-approved a group of Sussex Squad members to participate and interact with them, 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, in Nigeria, for the Invictus promotion. This event was not open to the public. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲'𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝 have a long history of organised social media campaigns targeting the Prince and Princess of Wales, including: spreading and trending affair rumours (this also impacts Rose and her family),targeting official royal tours and visits, and character attacks (racism is a big one). And it's quite clear Markle and Harry have benefited and profited from those campaigns. In 2020, after years of networking and negotiation, Markle and Harry signed some multimillion dollar content deals - promising 'uplifting social content'. It's now obvious to everyone that the only ratings and sales success they've had has come from royal gossip. As Jack Royston (Newsweek) said: "𝐈𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟,𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬" One of Markle and Harry's underlying narratives has been that William and Catherine were jealous. Jealous of their relationship, and of their popularity. This was the explanation given for most of what transpired between 2016 and 2019. That any negative media stories about Markle and Harry were planted by William and Catherine. This narrative framed the Netflix and Spare book content. Markle and Harry were working towards and framing their Netflix content in 2020 - 2022. Their 'work' was creating examples the public could see and experience real-time.The Oprah interview played into that, as did Sussex Squad and Bouzy social media activity. seven sentence sunday monday tag!
Time isn't real but these tags from @the-golden-comet [x] and @wyked-ao3 [x] are!
Context, context context... Book 2, Chapter 2, Royston POV. Hofer and Royston are discussing some particulars of an operation that's about to occur. Y'all get 14 lines instead of 7, thanks to the double tag :D
If you don't want spoilers, blacklist #dmls-spoilers and get out of here. I'm making blatant references to backend DMLS 1 events that carry over into Book 2.
cw: medical, hofer/royston bickering
"I can take the brunt of it and leave him conscious," Royston said. "I will tell you no for two reasons. First, you need to be able to hold him down. If you feel as though I am cutting off your leg, then you will attempt to murder me." "Huh. Fair point." "Second, I have two gentlemen with me who have no idea what the City is, that blood sorcery exists—" "It's not sorcery," Royston protested. "I'm sorry, I seem to have forgotten what you—" "Sangromancy." "That sounds absolutely fucking ridiculous." "You're fucking ridiculous." "Regardless, Mister… Sullivan [1], given the presence of my escort, and the fact that Mister Westerberg shall be assisting with the surgery, it is my professional opinion that you ought to begin acclimating yourself to the concept of discretion. I dare say most folks will have a rather violent reaction to learning a man with your proclivities is also a witch." Royston narrowed his eyes.
[1] Royston uses Sullivan's name around other people to stick with the "cousin" charade they established in Book 1. It's exactly as gay as it sounds.
Tag! If you've already been tagged, then HEY LOOK AT THIS SHIT I WROTE.

If there's anyone that used to listen to lovejoy that's now looking for a new band (in light of recent events) I recommend The Royston Club! They're one of my favorite bands and they have a very similar sound to lovejoy (angsty british indie rock)
They also have all of the same types of songs that lovejoy does, including
- danceable bangers (mariana, ms narcissistic)
- heart-wrenchingly sad songs (52, cold sweats, cherophobe)
- a metric ton of breakup songs (blisters, shallow tragedy, missed the boat (jumped in the sea), and many more)
I highly recommend checking their music out! (if you feel like it lol)

🎉Get to Know My OC🎉
Thanks for the tag, @rickie-the-storyteller! Check out hers here (I really love it)! For this round, I am choosing Blair from my WIP Crater City.
I am also tagging these people if they wanna have at it: @rubywrite @flock-from-the-void @my-cursed-prince @new-royston-cursebreakers @zestymimblo and @sam-glade!
There is a small Content Warning, so I slapped them in the tags.
...
In a small, concrete room sits a young man bound by ropes. He is slouched in a folding chair in front of a thick, wooden table. The spotlight that aims directly on his body accentuates his warm features: deep, brown hair that goes down to his neck, blush from acne scars, and a bit of stubble. He wears a pair of heart gauges, an aviator jacket, crocs, and jeans that look like they've fought in the nuclear war and come back to tell their tale. But alas, we are not interviewing a pair of distressed pants today.
He is beginning to come to after being knocked unconscious for the past 45 minutes (Well, it’s better to be safe than sorry).
Blair: Where the fuck am I? (he blinks, confused) Wait, am I being interrogated for my crimes? Now? (he squirms in his chair) I refuse to speak to a lawyer until proven guilty!
Elijah: Blair, listen! If we just do as we're told, we'll be fine.
Blair: Elijah? You’re here, too? If I find out they hurt you-- (nearly tips over in his chair)
Elijah: No, I'm fine, I promise! Let's just get this interview over with so we can leave. Ok?
Blair: Yeah, whatever. But if anyone hurts you (The rope that tie him to his chair drop off his body all at once), I will smash my way through that mirror, grab them by the neck, and--
Me: Ok, ok! Let's get the interview started!
...
[1] Are you named after anyone?
Am I? (Blair looks around in thought.) I don't think so, the last I checked.
[2] When was the last time you cried?
(Blair sighs, throwing his hands on the table. You're sure things are about to get juicy.) Blair: On my way over here, actually! Some cop threw some tear gas at me. (pauses) Nah, I'm just kidding. I was actually having a panic attack about something...(Blair pauses to remember.) I think it was about how if Elijah somehow wound up in heaven and I didn't, would he just leave me behind or bunk with me in the pits of hell? I called him in the middle of the breakdown and everything, and he told me that he's not sure if there is an afterlife, but even if there was, he wouldn't leave me for a bunch of glorified bed sheet-wearing prudes. Then someone came up from behind me and smeared my face with a cloth, and that's how I ended up here! Elijah: (directly into the microphone from the booth) Me and Blair trade existential crises like trading cards. It's become our new favorite Saturday night event.
[3] Do you have kids?
Blair: Rose and Elijah said I shouldn't be trusted around other small, chaotic humans like myself because the last time that happened, an entire fifth-grade class started a traffic light rights campaign. Traffic was backed up for weeks because we “planted the seed of rebellion” in the minds of children. Elijah: No, the police said you "planted the seed of rebellion" in the minds of sentient bots, which I'm not sure how you managed to convince them to rebel in the first place. The children just started a new religion after the streetlights. Blair: I think what started it was when I was driving this parent and her kid somewhere and I cussed out someone driving in front of me for not respecting the traffic light when it told him to go.
[4] Do you use sarcasm?
Blair: Sometimes, yeah, but doesn’t everyone? Like what even constitutes sarcasm, are there actually people who don't use it at all? That seems impossible. Is this a trick question? Like can--is that an amount I can measure? Like ok, so, if one entire day equals a gallon and I speak like probably six gallons, but super fast, as I tend to, then in order to measure how much sarcasm I use would probably be between three cups out of that. So to answer your question, I think so. Maybe? Sure. Elijah: What about for our metric system users out there? Blair: a few hundred milliliters? Fuck if I know. I didn't know I was gonna be quizzed on math equations. Me: The U.S. still hasn't fully converted to the metric system hundreds of years in the future? Elijah & Blair: Nope.
[5] What's the first thing you notice about people?
Blair: The way they sound or act. I can tell if you're gonna be a condescending ass wipe before you even speak. Like for example, the people who dragged me here reek of stomach acid and gravel. But Elijah’s general vibe is like yellow with little bursts of bright light and swirls, like an old-timey screen saver. Elijah: Like the ones you'd find on my uncle's computer? Blair: Is he really that old? (They both laugh)
[6] What's your eye color?
Blair: Black or brown. I'm not sure, I just stare in the mirror and then when I look away, I forget immediately. Elijah looks at them a lot, ask him. (he gives a sly grin at the one-way mirror) (Elijah turns bright red from behind the glass) Elijah: Next question!
[7] Any special talents?
Blair: I do knife tricks with my balisong! Elijah: And he texts me for bandages every other day, so I have essentially become his bandage delivery guy. Blair: Elijah, tell them how you got me Hello Kitty bandages to “deter me from practicing.” Elijah: I…yeah. That didn't work. (Blair raises his hands to reveal neon pink fingers.)
[8] Scary movies or happy endings?
Blair: Scary movies because me and Rose and Elijah used to watch a bunch of gorey sci-fi movies together and laugh at the special effects. Or, at least me and Rose would. Elijah got angry we didn't take his nerdy movies as seriously as he did. Elijah: You just can’t appreciate old cinematography! Blair: True cinematography is The Dinosaurs Before Time. But you wouldn’t know since you always cry five minutes in and then we have to turn it off! Elijah: (standing up) Nuh-uh! Blair: (walking closer to the front of the room, imitating Elijah crying) “He was born ten minutes ago and now his mom’s dead?!” Elijah: (imitating Blair’s voice) “Yeah, that’s sad and all, but I think I could take on a T-rex with my bare hands.” No the fuck you could not! Do you have any idea how huge those bitches were? It'd eat you in one bite! Blair: Wow, you’re saying that just because I’m short I couldn’t do it. Low blow, Elijah. (The two, now inches apart the mirror’s divide, bicker about the logistics of fighting a dinosaur and how fighting a rooster technically counts because if you ever had a rooster chase after you, it’s scary af.) Me: Andddd, moving on!
[9] Where were you born?
Blair: On the outskirts of Crater City in some podunk. It should still be there, it's where my mom and my old neighbors lived. Things were so much more friendly back there, which is a huge difference from living in the city. Elijah: It’s crazy to be able to smile at someone on the street there and not get a death threat. Blair: Yeah… (he reminisces) Elijah: Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Blair: We should buy 400 acres of land and become farmers after this whole thing blows over. Elijah: (laughing) And raise a rooster army to protect our crops from mutants! (They bounce eagerly at the prospect of changing their names and living a peaceful life in the country.)
[10] What are your hobbies?
Blair: I practice tricks with my balisong, piece together little bots as pets, draw cartoons, and play video games. I also collect soda tabs, scrap metal, car keys, keychains, road signs… (Blair counts on his fingers) Elijah: Did he say road signs? What he meant was abandoned materials left for dead! Perfectly legal stuff here! (he laughs nervously.) Blair: I also collect our wanted pictures because I think we look sexy in them. Elijah: Blair!
[11] Do you have any pets?
Blair: I don't have a "pet" pet, but Elijah does! Or used to! I'm not sure what happened to him. He was a hamster named Clip, short for Noclip. Maybe that's why he's still missing. Elijah: Yeah, I'm not sure what happened either. But he usually turns up when Blair visits. Blair: It’s cause I’m the cool and estranged relative who brings gifts every time he comes over. Elijah: And by “gifts” he means chip crumbs on the couch.
[12] What sports do you play/have played?
Blair: I've played volleyball for a bit in high school until they banned me from the team for spiking the ball too hard. But if the opportunity presents itself, why not take it? Elijah: You gave four people concussions in one season! (Elijah laughs at the absurdity) Blair: They made fun of me, saying I was so short I couldn't hit over the net! It's not my fault they underestimated my skills.
[13] How tall are you?
Blair: 5' 5." There, I said it. Now we can move on! Elijah: Your Honor, he’s lying under oath, he's actually 5'3.5”! Blair: I can detest! Elijah: You mean “attest”? Blair: Hand me a fucking ruler right now! (Blair is provided a retractable ruler to measure his height) Elijah: Blair, turn it the other way. Blair: No, see? I am 5'5," and there's nothing you can do about it! Nothing! Unless you want to come over here and measure me yourself. (Elijah covers his face in his hands.) Blair: It's kinda suspicious he's so determined I'm shorter than I say I am. What, is he measuring my height in my sleep? I dunno, man, that's kinda weird.
[14] Favorite subject in school?
Blair: Robotics club counts, I'm pretty sure. Me and Elijah signed up for it and that's how we became best friends. It was the only class the teacher didn’t yell at me for slacking off or falling asleep in. Elijah: Because it was the only class you actually liked. Blair: Yeah, and the teacher even helped me get a scholarship because she said I was a great asset to mankind or whatever. But I think she was just being dramatic. Elijah: You managed to make a living driving people around in hijacked auto cars, I think it’s safe to say you’re not a complete idiot. Blair: Only a little. Elijah: Yeah, we’re pretty stupid. But not that stupid.
[15] Dream job?
Blair: I think I'd like to still build bots but definitely at my own pace instead of at a factory or business. It's too stuffy in places like that and it gets too repetitive after a while. Elijah: (confused) Blair, your passengers offer you to do contract work all the time. Blair: Elijah, Elijah. I don't think you understand... (There is a long pause.) Elijah: Are you gonna finish that thought? Or did you forget it halfway? Blair: No, I just didn't care enough to finish what I was gonna say. Hey, you wanna get some curly fries after this? All this pouring my life out shit is making me hungry. I almost forgot why I was even here. (Blair stretches) Oh my God, actually, you guys should interrogate Elijah next! I wanna see how long it takes for him to crack under pressure. Elijah: Blair, those questions were hardly invasive. Blair: I think you should throw some hardballs at him. Like do you eat oatmeal with a spoon or fork? Do you salt your watermelon or eat it unseasoned? Do you wash your rice with soap? Elijah: Who the fuck washes their rice? (Blair wears a look of abject horror.)
Me: And that is all the time we have for this interview! Thank you for your participation, Blair and Elijah! Now, if you could make your way to the exit—
(Elijah hurries out of the studio, followed by Blair, who has burst from the interviewing room. Blair chases him down the hall to the exit, all the while shouting a step-by-step guide on how to prepare rice. You have a feeling his ancestors would be very proud of him, if not for the atrocities he has committed.)

“I was very much into the poetry and music scene that was going on at the time. A vinyl EP of Christopher Logue’s Red Bird was something that I listened to frequently. So when Royston Ellis invited me to accompany him on guitar I knew exactly how to play textual music around his poems.
I knew about the Beats using music behind their writing. Jack Kerouac read from On the Road with a piano backing him on the Steve Allen Show. Royston did some stuff with the Silver Beetles (the Beatles). Royston was going to be reading poems, and I could play guitar behind them, not with just abstract content, but with melodic passages as well.
I did three events with Royston in 1961: a Heretics Society talk at Cambridge University in March, the British Poetry Festival in July and a TV programme in September.
The British Poetry Festival was a massive, week-long event in London with various literary luminaries such as Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath. There were even poets I had read at school such as William Empson, alongside actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company such as Dame Flora Robson. It was a huge honour to take part, courtesy of Royston.”

Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
------
“I’m so glad you could make it, my dear Penelope!”
Penelope grinned at her dear friend, returning the embrace that she offered. “Likewise, your Grace. How have you been?”
Deborah scoffed. “Now, Penelope, you know I don’t do titles. Just Deborah is fine by me.”
“But of course.” Penelope chuckled as the pair walked towards the venue. Shiny and new, the Stirling Road Convention Centre was bustling with people, all of them there to celebrate the Festival of British Industry. The Festival had gotten so many supporters over the past few years that the new Centre had been built just to fit everyone. The old centre would remain in use for other events, however. Penelope glanced back behind her, watching as Parker drove off towards the car park. She smiled, knowing that he was on call and would gladly assist her at the drop of a hat if the need arose. “I hear that there’s a new supersonic craft to see in action today…”
Deborah nodded. “Yes, my dear. It’s the highlight of the event, so we won’t be able to watch until the end, but that must mean it’s truly a sight to behold.”
“I’m sure it will be.” She was also sure it wouldn’t hold a candle to Thunderbird One, and would keep that opinion even if the new ship blew her away, but kept her voice neutral. “Although, I must say, nothing really surprises me much anymore…”
The Duchess raised an eyebrow, but said nothing as they were finally facing the open doors of the Centre. “Shall we, my dear?”
“Yes, let’s…” Penelope was truly excited for this convention; had been ever since it was announced she was on the VIP list this year, and yet…
She couldn’t shake this vague sense of danger she felt…
------
“Now remember.” The agent watched from above the crowd in the ceiling as the Duchess of Royston and Lady Creighton-Ward entered the building. Their presence here made the mission so much more difficult, but Omega knew that this mission had to be a success, especially seeing as they had failed their last one. They shook themselves as the Hood continued to give instructions. “If you fail again, I will not be as merciful as I was before…”
Gee, tell them something they didn’t know… “I…” Their voice shook. “I understand, Master. I will not fail you again…”
“You better not.” They could practically hear the sneer. “Oh, and one more thing, Agent Omega.”
“Yes?”
“A word of caution. Do not underestimate Penelope Creighton-Ward. She’s a slippery one…”
“Of course.” Omega saluted, even if their boss couldn’t see it. “Agent Omega, out.”
Omega grinned evilly behind the mask as more and more people filtered through. Now, how best to get the International Rescue agent out of the way?
------
A few hours had passed since the convention began, and the feeling that danger was just around the corner had only gotten bigger and bigger for Penelope. She remained close to Deborah, hoping that whatever came, she would be able to protect her friend. Parker had also been called long ago, and was on the prowl in disguise, keeping an eye out for any trouble.
She was so on edge, she practically jumped when Deborah tapped her lightly on the shoulder.
“Oh, I’m sorry, dear…” The Duchess apologised, before raising an eyebrow. “Are you alright? You seem out of sorts.”
Penelope breathed a sigh of relief before answering. “I’m quite alright. Don’t worry.”
Deborah smiled. “Well then, if you’re okay, I must go and redo my make-up before the main event. I’ll be back shortly.”
International Rescue’s London agent hummed, her eyes landing on the nearby powder room. Good. It was close enough. “Very good. I’ll be waiting here.” Above them, Agent Omega grinned. This was their chance. They just had to make it count…
Once her friend was out of sight, she whipped out her communicator, eager to hear back from Parker. He picked up on the first ring. “Yes, M’lady?”
“How’s it going, Parker? Have you seen anything?”
“Nothing h’untoward going h’on ‘ere, ma’am. H’anything your h’end?”
Penelope huffed. “No. Nothing.”
“Then there’s likely nothing to worry h’about, M’lady…” Parker reasoned. If something was going to go wrong, it would’ve happened by now.
“I know…” Penelope replied. “But I can’t quite shake this feeling-” She was interrupted by a shrill shriek, and immediately knew who it was. She’d been right. “Parker!” She yelled into her comm, attracting a few curious stares. “I need you here, now!”
There was a loud rustling noise on the other end as he moved swiftly to her aid. “Coming, M’lady! I’ll call for reinforcements.” She pocketed her comm, rushing to where she had heard her friend’s cry for help.
The door swung open, revealing someone she had hoped to never meet in the flesh. Agent Omega kept a tight hold of the Duchess, knife blade dangerously close to her throat. “Not another step…”
“It’s you…” Penelope rarely froze. “You’re the one who shot the pilot of Thunderbird One two months ago…” She growled out, managing to keep her connection to the incident vague. This monster had already hurt someone she cared about. There was no way she was going to let it happen again.
“Quite right.” She could here the smirk in the cold, robotic voice. “The question is, just how did you know about that?”
“Don’t play games with me.” Her voice dropped in warning. “Just get to the point. What do you want?”
Omega hummed, adjusting their grip on Deborah, who looked between the two in terror. “I want a lot of things. International Rescue under my boot, my master to rule the world…” Penelope dared to get a little closer, an action that did not go unnoticed by Omega. The knife got closer to it’s target. “I wouldn’t do that.” The IR agent backed off, and her rival shrugged. “In any case, what I want right now is the new supersonic craft that’s on display here, and you’re going to help me get it…”
Penelope’s breath hitched. “How?”
Even though she couldn’t see it, she could feel Omega regarding her with a neutral expression. “Come now, your Ladyship. You help me by simply letting me go. We both know you won’t risk her safety, and if you won’t stop me, I doubt anyone else in this hall can…”
“Penelope?” She looked over at Deborah, whose expression was a mix of terror and pleading. The IR operative sent her a look that she hoped was encouraging.
“It’s okay…” She muttered, knowing deep down that was wrong. It wasn’t okay. And that was the last thing she knew before everything went black.

In Britain, the magnificent roast turkey is the unrivalled star of Christmas dinner. When turkeys were brought to England in the 16th century, this tradition began. Even though roast turkey is the best, the British have an excellent choice of options for people who like variety. As an example of the type of flavours found on Christmas dinners, roast goose, duck, or juicy beef frequently make an appearance. Adding depths of tradition to the holiday table, each choice carries its own history and regional significance.

The scrumptiousness of stuffing, the crunch of roast potatoes, and the rainbow of colours from the Brussels sprouts, carrots, and parsnips all come together in perfect harmony. Of all the components of the dish, the gravy—a delicious liquid gold—is the show-stopper.
Sweet Finishes:
Christmas pudding or mince pies are served after the main meal for a sweet ending. These traditional desserts are the ideal way to round off a dinner. Also, a Christmas pudding is a merry sight in and of itself, what with all the dried fruits and spices and the dramatic explosion of flames that often tops it off.

Royal experts say King Charles should apologize for the monarchy's racist past.
The monarchy has turned a blind eye to the major role it played in Britain's slave trade.
Charles has expressed his "sorrow over the past" but hasn't held the monarchy accountable.
King Charles will undoubtedly be monarch for a shorter period than his predecessor, Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for 70 years before her death last year.
At 74, Charles has limited time to carve out his legacy before passing the throne to his son Prince William.
But royal experts agree Charles could still make a significant impact on the institution. They say if there's one thing the king should do during his reign to make a lasting impression, it's apologize for the monarchy's racist past.
The royal family has turned a blind eye to its racist history
The royal family has failed to fully acknowledge the monarchy's part in Britain's slave trade, which involved the transportation and forced labor of African people in exchange for goods.
A number of British monarchs — including Queen Elizabeth I and James I — sponsored, supported, or profited from Britain's involvement in slavery, The Guardian's David Conn reported in April. And although the full extent of the royal institution's involvement is not known, Charles has issued his public support to a research project looking into the monarchy's links to slavery, according to another Guardian report from April.
Of course, racism isn't just a thing of the past. The British royals have faced allegations of racism in recent years. In 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey that a senior member of the royal family made racist remarks about their son, Archie, before he was born, and in their 2022 Netflix docuseries, "Harry & Meghan," they said the monarchy wrote off British tabloids' racist treatment of Meghan as a "rite of passage."
In November, Lady Susan Hussey, a lady-in-waiting to Camilla, the Queen Consort, resigned after Ngozi Fulani, the founder of the charity Sistah Space, said a member of palace staff — who she did not name, but it later emerged was Hussey — asked her where she "really came from" at an event at Buckingham Palace. Fulani told Insider the interaction, which Hussey apologized for in December, made her feel "so uncomfortable" and "violated."
Charles should hold the monarchy accountable, royal experts say
Charles' support of the research project investigating the royals' involvement in slavery may suggest he is taking a different approach than Queen Elizabeth II, who never acknowledged the monarchy's role in supporting the slave trade. But it isn't enough, royal experts told Insider.
They say the king could take things a step further by fully acknowledging and publicly apologizing for the monarchy's links to slavery, and by listening to people in communities affected by racism. Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace did not respond to Insider's request for comment on this story.
Royal commentator Kristen Meinzer told Insider that Charles should offer a direct public apology, rather than "expressions of sorrow over the past," referring to a speech the king gave at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Rwanda in June.
"I cannot describe the depths of my personal sorrow at the suffering of so many, as I continue to deepen my own understanding of slavery's enduring impact," Charles said in part, according to Sky News.
It wasn't the first time Charles addressed the subject. In 2018, Charles condemned "the appalling atrocity of the slave trade" in a speech during a visit to Ghana, The Guardian reported at the time.
Jack Royston, a royal correspondent for Newsweek, told Insider that Charles could make a bigger impact by addressing the "specific role the monarchy played" in slavery.
"Charles' biggest task as king is to address the royal family's historic links to slavery and colonialism," Royston said.
"It's a very tricky subject for the monarchy because Foreign Office policy is not to apologize or pay reparations, and that is what is being asked of him," Royston added, referring to a department of the British government.
"On paper, the king should not contradict the stance of his government," Royston said. "However, anyone with a heart and a sense of compassion can see that the damage done by slavery and colonialism was real, was heartbreaking, and created generational trauma that outlived the crimes themselves."
The king can do more than just apologize if he wants to make a difference
Chika Okeke-Agulu, an art historian and a professor at Princeton University, told Insider that the king can wield the monarch's symbolic power to effect real change, instead of using it to support the status quo as Queen Elizabeth did.
"The Queen was a product of empire," Okeke-Agulu said. "She was a child of empire and was still connected to the ideologies and world views of empire."
"King Charles is not," he went on to say. "So for him to demonstrate a generational change and shift from the attitudes and worldviews of the British monarchy, he has to take the steps that his mother did not take."
Okeke-Agulu pointed to specific actions the king could take in addition to apologizing for the monarchy's ties to slavery — such as addressing the Windrush generation scandal, in which UK citizens who were born in Caribbean countries were deported or mistreated.
He said the king could also support the return of artifacts Britain took from other countries — like one of the Benin bronzes, which was taken from a museum in Nigeria in 1973 by Gen. Yakubu Gowon, the president at the time, and given as a gift to the Queen, according to The Art Newspaper; it remains in the royal family's collection today. Okeke-Agulu said that there have been some efforts by British museums in recent years to return stolen artifacts to their countries of origin, but endorsement from the monarch could spur more action.
"I think that even the symbolic gesture of announcing that he's very interested in this issue would encourage, perhaps even catalyze, new efforts by these British institutions," Okeke-Agulu said.
Likewise, Meinzer suggested Charles could donate to and listen to communities affected by racism that feel they've been "negatively and systematically harmed by his institution."
And after the incident with Lady Susan Hussey, Diane Abbott, a member of Parliament for the Labour Party, told CNN in December that the royal family needs to change internally before it can spur changes in the UK and beyond.
"I would like to see them have more Black people in the royal household, I would like to see them genuinely open their arms to Meghan Markle, and I would like to see them use their role to try and encourage a genuinely multiracial society," she said.
NPR also reported in April that the group Heirs of Slavery — which is made up of the ancestors of those who profited off the transatlantic slave trade — has approached King Charles to work with them, which would offer the monarch a tangible way to take accountability for his family's history.
If the king chooses not to take any action, Okeke-Agulu said, Charles "will be basically saying that not much has changed on the very subject that defined Britain as a political phenomenon, cultural entity, and as an institution that has to care about ethics and morals."
Charles could strengthen the monarchy's future by addressing its ugly past
If Charles takes meaningful steps to address the monarchy's history, it could help the future of the monarchy.
"Taking these steps would not just benefit the people of the Commonwealth and Charles himself, it would also serve to smooth the path for William and Kate Middleton, who presented themselves as out-of-touch overlords during their disastrous Caribbean tour," Meinzer said, referencing the couple's royal tour in the region in March 2022.
The couple undertook the tour on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, as part of the late monarch's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Elizabeth was head of state of 14 Commonwealth countries, almost all of which are former colonies of the British Empire; Charles took over as head of state after her death.
William and Kate canceled the first stop on their tour, Belize, after locals organized protests ahead of their arrival and carried signs referencing the monarchy's colonial past. There were also protests in Jamaica, as citizens argued that the UK should pay reparations for the slave trade.
William and Kate were also criticized after photos showing them greeting children through holes in a wire fence on a football field in Kingston, Jamaica, were released, Newsweek reported at the time.
William addressed the criticism in a statement on Twitter shortly after the tour, saying it brought an opportunity to reflect and learn and "brought into even sharper focus questions about the past and the future."
The same week that William and Kate visited the nation, Belize and Jamaica signaled their intentions to remove Queen Elizabeth II as head of state before her death in 2022, according to The Independent. This came after Barbados removed the Queen as its head of state and became a republic in 2021. And it's possible other Commonwealth realms could follow suit during Charles' reign, as Insider's John Haltiwanger previously reported.
Okeke-Agulu said the "rituals of empire" that instilled loyalty into Commonwealth countries are fading with time, leaving many wondering why they remain loyal to the monarchy at all.
"The institution itself is going to be increasingly in a precarious situation," he went on to say. "But one of the things it can do is to buy new favors, and you can do that by addressing the very crucial and important issues and questions that a huge segment of the world's population wishes for the monarchy to address."
While a vocally anti-racist monarchy would be a strength for the institution itself — helping the family distance itself from "questions of unconscious bias and racism behind closed doors," as Meinzer told Insider — it would also be an important historical moment for the royals to take responsibility for ancestral abuses.
"If he tried to address these things now, he will be doing his children and his children's children a favor, and in fact, doing Britain a favor," Okeke-Agulu said of Charles, adding: "So long as there are human beings whose ancestors experienced that institution, this question will never go away."
By taking responsibility for the monarchy's past, Charles could help the institution clear the skeletons out of its closet and move forward.
If he doesn't, the monarchy risks getting left behind — and losing the world's respect once and for all.

@wip-wipeout-weekend @choicesficwriterscreations
I made some progress on an Ethan/Charley wedding fic. They are getting married on December 17, 2022. I guess that is also my date I have to post my fic on. Wedding venue, The Commons 1854, was selected and Charley's wedding dress was picked.
Tumblr media
September 25, 2022
“Hello?”
“Hi. Charley Valentine? This is Alesia  Royston, the events planner at The Commons. I wanted to let you know that we had a cancellation if you wanted to move your wedding up.”
Charley bit her lip. Ethan and she had wanted a winter wedding at The Commons but December 2023 was far off. Maybe sooner would be better. “My fiance is in a meeting, but we can discuss moving it up. When is the cancellation?”
“It’s December 17th.”
Charley paused. “The 17th? That’s only three days sooner that our date.”
Alesia laughed. “Not December 17, 2023. December 17, 2022!” Charley heard keyboard taps in the background before Alesia spoke again. “I have here in my notes from when you met with us in March. You were hoping for a December wedding this year.”
Charley leaned against the nurses station. “In March that was nine months away. Now it’s less than three!” She closed her eyes. Could they do it? Could they pull off a wedding in that time?
“Should I put you down?”

ah, shit, here i go talking to myself about dmls again.
Chat, I think I have to write draft 6 in chronological order. Like actual chronological order. Like the whole fucking thing. The original iteration + seven fucking loops.
Usual warning about heavy spoilers and low probability of this shit making sense.
And if I do that, then I need to reframe the Bad Ending's purpose as a plot point. It shouldn't be the climax of Book 1.
Powell and his party's purpose is totally lost where it currently is. I could be doing a lot more with the time loops/memory as a sacrifice if I showed what information was gathered when Sullivan and Hofer went down there alone.
Deep cut: in the run immediately preceding the one I show you in Book 1, Sullivan left Royston in the stockade and Hofer ended up going after him because he and Turner didn't come back. Hofer had to go down into the cave after them. I don't know if Turner opened the door that time. He might have. Which sucks that his fate that run is to open a creepy-ass door against his will.
I think if I follow a 5-act structure, and I end the first three four acts with them ending up there, then it won't feel super repetitive to keep looping. They end up in the City the very first time, and then they don't even make it that far the next three times because everyone is so fucked up.
The fucked-uppedness also allows me to give Gott a ton more time on the page than she currently has. She fucking deserves it. Having her be actively involved as a supporting character enables her to steer the plot so it isn't fucking her quite as hard as it is in Book 2.
Exposing more of what the conversations they had during previous loops look like in flashbacks, I'm doing her a huge disservice not giving her a few thousand words to establish that she is trying to help Royston. And showing how much bullshit she's had to put up with yet still considers him her friend.
Contrasting the men's responses to either knowing they're in a time loop but thinking they're insane and keeping it to themselves (Hofer and Royston) vs. the one fucking time Sullivan can remember anything, he's like "No. I'm making different choices and getting us out of this"--I think that would hit way harder if I made the reader endure all of it with them.
Not to a degree that we're beat-by-beat going through it, you know? Conservative endurance. The run that Sullivan has autonomy in, the other two can't remember what's going on. It's the ultimate fucking trust fall. Showing how Sullivan broaches the existence of the time loop vs. the other two being too chickenshit to say anything (if Royston isn't manipulating it for some reason) I think would only make Sullivan stronger as a protagonist. I also think there's an opportunity to show Royston trying to figure out who Hofer is way earlier. Like, show you guys what a jealous piece of shit he is. (Or else show the time loop was causing him actual psychological distress due to his blatant ADHD coding.) I love him, he's my awful son, but Sullivan had to be patient to get him into the state he's currently in. He was going to bring him to meet his mother the very first fucking iteration of events, knowing what a shitbag he was. That's something that doesn't change regardless of what happens. That needs to be on the page.
Like I know there's people who would read that much of it. Y'all are insane. It's just dawned on me that jesus christ, this isn't the best way to tell the story, I have to unfold the time loops.

For the authentic Indian flavour, we use only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients.
