Thirsty Thursday ✨

for this @creators-club event hosted by @bardic-tales , I’m gonna go more in depth on Harper’s relationships with the rest of the cast!

these are specifically for the beginning of the story, so they will all change with time.

Harper thinks Noha is cool. He likes their skills (assassin tingz yknow) and weirdly enough, he enjoys their company, despite the fact that Harper’s a chatterbox and Noha is Not That.

Harper’s opinion of Felix, Kaiden, Evangeline, and Aleksi is more or less the same: he thinks they’re all brats and hates them. He thinks Aleksi has no spine, Kaiden is way too bossy, Felix is a playboy (hilarious coming from Harper), and Evie is a prude.

Harper likes Mehri well enough, he thinks she s a lil naive but at least she isn’t out to get him.

And Harper finds Li Hua interesting. She claims to hate the authorities but she’s working with them. She claims to hate bounty hunters yet her best friend is one. Interesting. He thinks it best to keep an eye on her.

Meet the Character: Eshani Faison

For this week, I'll be talking about Eshani. She's my oldest OC, I came up with the first iteration of her when I was thirteen (even her name was different at that point, lol).

She's the dubious figure of Obsidian Sapphires, literally everyone sees a different side of her. (And not just metaphorically, she's a shapeshifter). Some believe she's Fate's second reprisal, though most don't know of her true occupation. That is to say, she's a High Councillor, one of a cursed bunch of seven who all murdered their way into the Court of Morilaste.

Of course, one doesn't survive there easily. It takes a lot of deceit and manipulation on her part to keep on top of things, and beneath her beautiful exterior, she hides a wealth of secrets.

Fun Fact Friday

here are 5 random facts about my writing project!

my current main story is actually the result of multiple generations of ocs, as in I started by trying to write stories about some ocs, and then I gave them kids and wanted to write about the kids. and then I made those kid ocs into adult ocs and gave them their own kids, and my protagonist Morianon is one of those kids that is now an adult. I know the full backstory of both sides of his adoptive parents' families. His dad's parents were my first ever queer ocs. They're unfortunately no longer relevant to my main plot, but maybe I'll revisit them someday and write a short side story about em.

I also have more fantasy people species than are shown in my main plot, I just had to cut some of them to keep the world from feeling too complicated and crowded. I've got a third species connected to the orcs and gnomes, I've got lizard folk, I've got two types of unrelated merfolk, I even tried making kangaroo people once. I like designing people species! but they simply don't all fit in the plot, so I had to downsize.

Both of my protagonists were originally designed as elf children, but I changed my mind and Morianon ended up a bird dude while Evarin ended up a gnome. And while Morianon has had the most obvious visual changes, Evarin is the one who's had the most character changes! Morianon's backstory has been refined but not changed much, and Evarin has had a total shift in the narrative and taken a completely new role.

The Memento Morianon project was supposed to be one book but it's got such a slow and meandering plot that I was struggling to flesh it out while also keeping it shorter. So it's going to be a trilogy now, whoops! but on the other hand, coming up with the subtitles has also been fun! in order, they'll be Blood, Breath, and Bone, all of which tie into the themes and significant events that happen within each book.

I've done so much work on the worldbuilding and so much of it just won't be relevant for the narrative of any of my stories, so I'm planning on making a fully illustrated bonus book just to compile all my cool ideas. I mean, where else am I supposed to put all the fantasy biology art and extra details about the goblin revolution?

Tender Tuesday

Talking about Odair and how his relationships!

Odair is a closed-off person. If you think you've seen people have walls up, this young man has an entire fortress with battlements, a moat, and trenches beyond that. Nobody has seen the softer inner side of him, not even himself.

Except for an automaton in an old lab. But we'll get to that.

His relationship with Regin is incredibly complicated, he doesn't even know what to name it. Regin has been his guardian, his teacher, his father, his friend, the one person who he allowed up to the gates of his fortress but no further. He knows he can speak to Regin, seek wisdom, seek help.

But Regin also uses his blood to live. Subjugates his will with enthrallment. Regin asked a teenager to make an impossible decision ten years ago... to die in the snow or to give up his soul.

He knows Regin needs blood to survive. It's not a game Regin plays, it's just as life or death for him as it was for Odair all those years ago. But why him? Why not someone else? It runs through his head every day he sees the old vampire.

It's complicated. He doesn't know what to think of their impossibly ruinous dependency.

As for others, people like Yves, or members of Bridgewater? Odair is still locked away in his impossible fortress, a man so closed off inside it can barely see him on the outside.

But what of the automaton? What happens when it comes to life under his touch, when a force wrapped around his soul, feeding from it, leaps into its crystal chamber? What if its eyes spark, and a voice rises up from its metal confines? One that is innocent, in love with the world, seeking to know more? One that's cold metal hand caresses his cheek and, with cold empty glass eyes, sees through every crack in his walls and sees him for the first time?

What's it like, to fall in love with an angel-possessed automaton?

I had no idea which character in Tales from the Black Plains to answer this for, so I used a spin-the-wheel generator and it landed on:

Is your character more selfish or selfless?

At heart, Caroline has always been selfless. But nowadays, in practice, it falters under the crippling weight of her survival instinct.

She might do some things that later make her feel absolutely disgusted with herself, such as:

Passively taking credit for someone else's work (in the form of simply not correcting an assumption) if it means getting on the good side of someone in power who might otherwise make her life more difficult.

Breaking promises if she realises the consequences of keeping them are more detrimental to her life than she initially thought.

Making a mistake and silently allowing another to take the blame because she lacks the courage to face the punishment herself.

Taking advantage of someone's kindness. Repeatedly.

Caroline is constantly at war with herself. She wishes she could turn off the part of her that cares for others, because time and time again she is the direct (or indirect) cause of their suffering, and it hurts. Whatever she does to make amends afterwards is never enough.

As her story progresses, she learns from others how to face her fears and starts to fight for a life where she doesn't have to trample on others to survive.

What would they be willing to sacrifice for someone they love?

More than she ever thought she was capable of.

What would they be willing to sacrifice for a stranger?

Far less than her conscience implores—but then a stranger makes his own sacrifices to help her, and her mindset starts to unravel.

I have actually had it in my head to rec a few Chrisker fics from WAY back that I had read this year and this is a perfect opportunity.

Please note all these are adult/explicit fics.

F*cks like a S.T.A.R. (5986 words) by Merci : This fic was written in 2007 when Y!gallery was still around and its one of my favorites. It's a pretty simple bondage/captivity scenario with Wesker forcing Chris to do exactly what he wants.

Blowing Off Steam (2016 words) by ficbear: From 2010! Just some rough locker room screwing with hatesex/throwing one another around. STARS era.

Mercenaries (2774 words) by entanglednow: Another 2010 fic. This one takes place roughly during Code Veronica era so it's got that great push/pull of Wesker and Chris being recurring enemies but still attracted to one another.

Mind the tags on all of these and the fact that they're very old but they're some of my favorite in terms of quick fun.

Valeri, who is one of the main characters of Bear Castle Cycle, has been living rent free in my head for a while now as I've been writing his storyline. You're definitely making the correct assumptions here, it's not fun being him. Since the common wisdom is that you should set the expectations for the story in the first chapter, his storyline start with him getting beaten up :) And it's just downhill from there. He's a tough stoic soldier type, or like that's what he tries to seem like, when in reality he's an anxious emotional mess, but basically it's a story of him getting into Situations and witnessing the Horrors until he has a proper mental breakdown and cry. And then he can be put in more Situations, but now with a little less repression!

I like to make warm ups of the characters I'm currently writing whenever I'm painting so I think these warmups I've made illustrate quite well how not good time Valeri is having. First one is from the beginning of the story, second is from roughly the 2/3 point of the story.

The two knights were on the opposite outskirts of the crowd—Kaiden on the upper levels of the city, Felix on the lower—needing to stay vigilant for any suspicious activity. A vibrantly decorated stall stood on Kaiden’s right, displaying decroative lunar runes to be sold for the low, low price of three coppers.

The knight leaned against the side of the stall, making sure to stay out of sight from the stallkeep—she didn’t want to be haggled into buying a cheap rune. ‘I—we— need to be focused,’ she thought, ‘and that doesn’t involve partaking in festivities—wait a damn minute.’

Something had caught Kaiden’s eye. She skimmed the rest of the street from her spot, only to facepalm at the sight of her partner-in-justice merrily chatting away with a woman in front of another—somehow brighter—shop.

It's CC'S TRIVIA TUESDAY!!!

My little submission for today's event is two fold:

I was going to include 'flash back' chapters that included how Tyler and Esme met and all the canon stuff from the first movie I worked her into. I'm not entirely sure why I changed my mind, but I regret not doing it to this very day.

Also, I had every intention to kill Esme off at the end of the first story, I Found. It was going to be a one-and-done, as I'd been on a decade long writing hiatus, and it was really just meant to be a chance to dip my toes in the water before deciding to make the 'big leap' back into things. But....

I discovered a joy for writing again. And meant some amazing people that really loved/love Tyler and Esme together. By the time I got halfway through the story, I realize just how much I loved the together as well. I just couldn't do it to them: I couldn't break my readers' hearts and I certainly couldn't break Tyler's. So it became a whole series :D

So, on this episode of 'Eshani and Cerigo are angsting, again' ...

The crows and Councillors depended on her to bring it home. The country needed her to prevent the sum of its people from splintering. And Cheyoria and Cerigo… her return to them the most pivotal task of all. Eshani caught a reciprocal in her hands. A small piece of paper, with a single line of text. You know what my answer is. Come to the balcony. Upon teleporting there, her amour rose from his seat, the pair standing within inches of each other. “Well,” She let out a staggered breath. “Does Cheyoria’s friend still have it?” He shook his head, scrunching his nose a little. “What’s it worth to you? Why let it fall into the hands of High Councillors?” She recoiled at the sting in his last few words, a further reminder of what could’ve been. “You heard what was said. We need it, — I need it — for the peace of the country, for our sake. The longer the Chalice circulates, the further the country spirals.” “How long has it been kept there?” Heat rose in her cheeks, flowing to her fingers and crackling through her skin. The rift would take more than a drop to fix. “You lot just want it for yourselves. Don’t deny it.” “All I need is one drop from it.” Eshani gestured, his accusation a scathing blow. “One drop, Cerigo. One drop, and I can leave it all behind. I can come back to you.” He sighed, giving her a long, prickling stare. “Tell me who is standing before me right now? Because all I see is a High Councillor serving her court’s interests.”
