im so glad we got pretty much Every Single Character in the cast page now even the minor ones because I've been ao curious about them and we knew jack shit of them unless you check tumblr every fucking day. so thats one hell of a good change. the animations and icons also help bring the characters more to life and DOES kc animate well. seriously I can't emphasize enough how much i loved the cast pages they were so fun to read and skim through !!!!

im also glad kc explained the backstory of hemera and barry so the fandom doesn't shit on them for no reason. in this economy we live in we get barely any characters who react to trauma in ways that are considered bad or harmful/through anger 💔

OK gushing over let me talk about some neutral/negative things imo. these are not just related to the relaunch but just. the comic in general

alright so this is basically just nitpicking but there are So Many Fucking Lesbians. nothing wrong with being lesbian i am one myself LOL but literally more than half of the frmale-aligned cast is a lesbian which kinda sucks a bit because. yknow. wheres the representation for other identities

but. overall. i can tell kc and the z//cp staff worked their asses off to get this volume and site done and did they hit the nail right in the head. excited for whats to come

Avana Crane

- works for the Neverseen as a double agent for the Black Swan. Works for the Black Swan as a double agent for the Neverseen. Both organizations think they are on their side. Only she knows what side she is on… and even then, she’s not really sure. She just wants change and knows one way or another, one of these groups will eventually succeed.

- she hides the fact that she ever manifested an ability so no one can prepare for what she can do. She uses the fact that she is “talentless” as her reason for distrusting the council to get both the neverseen and black swan to feel sympathetic for her. (She is a mesmer. Her chaos capabilities with this being a secret are impossible to match.) I headcanon that neither organization ever had a real reason to probe her mind, but if anything about it comes up in her memories when someone looks through her mind, she blushes and says she always daydreams about having this super powerful special ability since she never got one, and since she’s seventeen and there’s no reason for them to assume she’d hide an amazing ability during a time of her life when she should want to be accepted, everyone just goes with it.

- Never really works close to Sophie and her friends in the black swan, but gets to know Keefe while he’s with the neverseen. He’s really bad at pretending he doesn’t care about the Moonlark, but as someone who is playing both sides expertly, Avana can’t judge him… she does MAJORLY ship Sokeefe though.

- Mr. Forkle absolutely knows she has loyalties all over the place. He also knows she has a special ability. He shares this information with no one because he is very impressed with how effective she is at making things happen and doesn’t want to jeopardize that—and she clearly meant it when she said “I will do everything in my power to help my world” when swearing fealty. He is the ONLY one who knows. Nobody with the neverseen has a clue.

Kaslyn Crane

@kaslynspeaks I literally named this character when I was eleven, but now that I look at her name again all I can think of is you lol

- Avana’s little sister (fourteen years old)

- Beguiler & Polyglot

- mainly exists to give Avana a reason to burst into tears and play the “I just want the future to be better for my sister” card with both rebel groups (despite the fact that her sister is… three years younger than her) and to be Timon Kester’s eventual love interest!

- has an impossible crush on Keefe Sencen. Avana has heard his name multiple times out of the mouth of her little sister by the time she meets him with the neverseen, which is part of why she’s so quick to trust him. However, Kaslyn is more than aware that he’ll never love anyone but Sophie… she just deludes herself sometimes!

Timon Kester

- Timon was adopted by his aunt and uncle after his parents decided they didn’t want him anymore. He manifested as a polyglot at age 13, and his parents said this was an essentially useless ability on its own. Timon didn’t want to stay with them anyway. They were the worst

- Timon and Kaslyn are good friends and talk to each other in other languages just to mess with their friends. Timon likes Kaslyn a LOT, but Kaslyn is, as previously mentioned, hopelessly in love with Keefe Sencen (who barely knows she exists). Timon wonders if he should start acting out bc of home troubles… maybe that would get Kaslyn’s attention…

- Timon sorta wants to join the Black Swan after hearing little stuff about it since it’s become sorta mainstream to know about it by nightfall. He’s like hey that’s cool, I like what they seem to stand for… however the ticket in at this point seems to be having a shared traumatic experience with Sophie Foster and Timon has zero idea how to get one of those

- Timon thinks Kaslyn’s older sister is REALLY sketchy, but he can’t say that because he’s afraid of seeming prejudiced against talentless people. Avana gives him weird vibes though.

Haylyn Zuni

- Haylyn is a hydrokinetic in level one at foxfire that Linh has taken under her wing

- She is eleven and also is VERY young to manifest. Linh recognizes herself in Haylyn and bonds with her quickly, helping her control her powers

- Haylyn asks Linh about joining the black swan exactly once. Linh says it involves a lot of almost-dying and Haylyn goes back on this, saying she’s happy to support the black swan but definitely doesn’t need in on the almost-dying thing.

- Haylyn thinks Marella is AWESOME. Since Linh and Marella hang out a lot, Haylyn sees Marella around quite a bit. One time, Haylyn tells Marella how cool pyrokinesis, and how part of her wishes she got to be a pyrokinetic. Marella is absolutely shellshocked and realizes that the prejudice against her ability isn’t being taught as strongly in school as it used to be, and that real progress is being made. Haylyn tells Linh that she’s glad she’s a hydrokinetic though because it means she gets to play water with her. Haylyn is ADORABLE.

**side note: I characterized eleven-year-old Haylyn as VERY juvenile for someone who was currently eleven at the time. I am… sort of thrown off by this??? Like I LOVE Haylyn, but come on Little Katie, you were literally her age…**

Danisa Madella

- Danisa is Haylyn’s friend her age!!

- she hasn’t manifested an ability yet but when she does, she’ll be a shade—which will throw everyone way off because she’s the most bright, sparkly person ever

- she’s super optimistic and fun and upbeat. She loves swimming with Haylyn because Haylyn makes a bunch of pretty shapes in the water

- Elvin vsco girl energy **STOP I FORGOT THAT WAS A THING**

- Danisa looks up to Sophie Foster a LOT. She’s her role model. She daydreams about finding out she’s actually going to manifest five abilities so Sophie can have a Moonlark friend, and that one day the black swan will tell her she is special and invite her to come risk her life for their cause!

- Danisa and Haylyn are friends with Galin Kester (also not yet manifested but will be a telepath, maybe I’ll make a bio for him if he becomes more relevant in my headcanon) who is Timon’s cousin (but since Timon lives with his aunt and uncle, they’re like brothers) so Danisa sees Timon a lot and has him teach her languages. She doesn’t tell him why she wants to know as many languages as possible, but secretly, she really wants to impress Sophie one day if she joins the black swan.

The Groups

- The Danisa-Haylyn-Galin friend group makes elaborate plans about how they’ll casually insert themselves into enough conversations to worm their way over to sitting with the Black Swan affiliated elves at foxfire. They never execute these plans.

- The Kaslyn-Timon-Shanla friend group consists of many of Shanla’s schemes to set Timon and Kaslyn up together. (Shanla is a guster and has even resorted to literally having the wind knock Kaslyn off her feet before. Timon forgot to catch her so the whole thing failed)

- Kaslyn and Avana used to be closer, but now that Avana graduated from Foxfire, they don’t see each other as often. (This is possibly because Avana is busy with her extreme quadruple agent scheme)

Things people should know about them going into it all:

semi - difficult on the shipping scale. Slow to trust but falls FAST once the trust and friendship is there. Getting them to admit that directly is another story but they show it. doesn't cope well with breakups

"live fast, die young" was written about mikah fr. Except they can't die. do not go in trying to "fix" them. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. they are very stubborn.

Is afraid of getting their partner killed. does not want to ruin anything for anyone that has a "normal" life.

pushes boundaries and buttons like nobody's business, not egregiously so or in an attempt to fix anyone. prepare to butt heads sometimes and be prepared to give them shit for it if. can't be a pushover with them because they'll get bored.

have to be okay with how close they are to Evan. don't have to like him but can't like… hate him because to them, that's a red flag. they don't feel anything romantic towards him in most verses.

Details:

Mikah is not someone who is looking for a relationship, so any romantic relationship will have to come as a result of friendship/ friendly rivalry or something akin to that. They keep their feelings pretty close to the chest and in order to get a genuine glimpse of them that's not played up or an act, one would need to get close to them. This tends to be a bit difficult due to how abrasive they can be at times, even if they don't actively dislike someone. They'll be… a bit more surface-level nice if said person is blond ( because they do have a preference for them ) but even then, its not by much. it's like a man ( or woman ) having money — they will not love you based on that... but, boy, it helps. Mikah is an equal opportunity button pusher and needs an Equally Opportunistic button pusher to keep them in line. They're a brat and they bite ( both figurative and literally ).

Their sex drive toes the line between medium and low but they are very touchy. They like being in their partner's space for no other reason than to be in it — as physical touch ( not necessarily sexual, at first, and definitely more sensual ) is their strongest "love language". It can be as small as handholding here and there, or a squeeze of their shoulder or thigh, leaning on them, etc — it just need to be a factor in the relationship. They are prone to teasing their partner with these touches as well, as they pay attention to the spots that elicit reactions and how they're touched.

i'll make a kink list for them, and all the others save for lawali, at some point but that boundary pushing, that needling, doesn't just stop... outside the bedroom. if i had to assign mikah roles without being cheeky about it or making fun of them, they are truly a switch. leans towards being submissive or a service role as well. some forewarning:

mikah has limited sexual experience. they are not a sex god and shit will get little awkward with them at first. they're not ashamed of that and they're not shy about wanting to have more. their partner has to be patient with them. getting frustrated with them because of experience is their number one turn-off.

that does not mean their partner has to hold their hand, though, or... put them in a box for a specific role permanently because they need a little push. like i said, they bite. Hard.

all that said... they are open to exploring their partner's kinks, as well as exploring those that they haven't. so long as they are not made to feel uncomfortable or pressured to do something they don't want to, mikah is down. all that confidence doesn't just shrivel up as soon as things get spicy and if anyone expects it to, they're playing themselves.

But it has to be done with a level respect and shouldn't a glorification of these topics. i have had the most tentatively lukewarm relationship with my voice all my life. its actual pitch/tonality/what have you (accents are a separate can of worms and novella entirely). at best i've always felt neutral about it and at worst i couldn't fucking stand to ever hear it played back to me -- nails on a chalkboard felt comparable. but maybe this is a multifaceted issue too because the cringe factor in those playbacks also stems from what i said in the past, and inevitably finding those things i said stupid and cringe. even my singing voice is something that does not meet my personal standards, could be so much better, always kicking myself for not keeping up with vocal training etc.

so interesting, you can change so many aspects of yourself, go under the knife and have a whole new face but a voice change is nigh impossible. sure you can train yourself to talk or sound different, and maybe with enough hours logged and effort put in, somehow, this will become your natural default voice? though i cannot fathom it from where i stand, me speaking in a higher or softer tone that wouldn't require deliberate or conscious continuous changing, and a tension i assume would follow it like when you're sucking in your stomach for a photo. you can't just live your life with your stomach sucked in all the time-- then again you can and i'm sure there's people who do it, but my god that sounds uncomfortable. trans folks and voice training comes to mind, i'm sure there are legitimate tips and tricks and techniques, but i've never looked into them.

it's not even that i want to necessarily change my voice drastically because i don't even know what i'd want to change it to? always being soft spoken is not me, i can't imagine not using the full range of my voice just to maintain some kind of kawaii girl aesthetic. i adore how sabrina carpenter's dips into very deep timbres in certain moments, it makes her all the more cute somehow vs. the girls who try to stay cute by keeping their voice high, it feels strained and unnatural. florence pugh also comes to mind, it's such an ingrained thing her insta bio literally mentions her deeply weird voice-- and she's all the more unique and memorable for it. diverse voices are beautiful, and voices from the kinds of people you'd never expect them. this all to say that i admire a great range of them, and have never once thought "oh, i want her voice". maybe ariana's from time to time because her speaking voice has such a pleasant musicality to it, some of her zach sang interviews and the way she says certain words get lodged in my mind for so long. but lol look how often she's gotten dragged in the past year alone for "changing her voice". it's not necessarily a change i'm looking for i guess, just to learn how to love and accept and become familiar with my own, and to grow into it finally. i fucking feel like mute ariel with the way i feel disjointed from my voice and not able to accept it as a part of me, even though i'm the biggest yapper on earth who yaps nonstop irl. but that's an unconscious act i never put much thought into.

Generally, I try to keep stuff like that relegated to my own personal fan projects, just because I vastly prefer the wiggle room that provides. I don’t really like making major changes to canon like that, and just projecting that image onto the actual work itself. There’s a weird pressure that comes with that for me. If I have things stacked into a fanwork, that looks less like I’m wrong, and more like I’m vibing.

Analysis is a different beast. Though sometimes one must take a little bit of artistic liberties in an essay, I generally just extrapolate upon what’s already there. I try not to lose the plot too badly, though, lol. I like to think I just amplify parts of the text that are already there, and tend to keep things character focused. Such as my various analyses on “aberrant” sexuality in Pikmin, and how that ties back to the very heavy criticism of harsh, restrictive societal expectation and capitalism present in the series. And also my entire Homestuck blog.

I had a couple really eloquent paragraphs written about this previously, but Tumblr deleted all of them, so you get that instead. Lol.

That said… here’s some sloppy brief overview notes. Could definitely expand upon these, if there’s any interest.

In Graveyard Broadcast, my Splatoon “rewrite” project, the Octarian Military is structured in a specific funny way that makes “General” not be the Top Dog. The top dog is the Shōgun King, which is Octavio. Turf War is a propaganda tool, a surface-dweller having a relationship with an Octarian is seen as bedding the enemy, and you can get charged with treason for it. The segregation is enforced with laws and lethal force. The surface is extremely intensely militarized, yet has such impressive PR through its deeply intense levels of consumerism that hardly anyone even realizes they’re living in a military state.

Haven’t named my Pikmin fanworks yet somehow, but a lot of my worldbuilding is just compounding the already present themes. Hocotate is a deeply conservative hellish desert planet that is deeply intolerant of anything that dares to diverge from the norm. Yes, there are individuals who are chill, but the overall culture is pretty oppressive. No one’s truly happy under this system, not even those who fit the exact mold society wants them to fit in. I’ve also got a lot of Spec Bio. Pikmin is basically begging on its hands and knees for you to do Spec Bio at it given some of the weird lore it gives you, and the literal amateur xenobiologist main character, so I’m taking that bait. That’s not what you’re asking for, though, so… That’s for another day.

Heres an issue I've been thinking on that I don't see anyone talking about in them critical space. I wrote a long ass ask to another blog about how Vivziepop sucks at portraying ethnic groups but its was and since your on the topic of Vivziepop FUCKING up basic religions I want to send something more organized and specific. I have an issue as an ethnically Jewish person with Rosie.

I will preface this by stating I am disconnected with my culture but I am trying to reconnect and I am not practicing. I actually would welcome people more connected than me or practitioners to add to this or correct me.

So we know Rosie is supposed to resemble a Jewish mother... I feel gross with that phrasing because there's a lot. Like again I'm disconnected but why did Vivziepop have to specify Jewish Mother? Like this almost feels like a stereotype and the best faith things I could guess is Vivziepop just thinks jews are a religious group or is just ignorant in general. The thing about our religion is that it's mostly closed... Like typically as far as I'm aware you can only practice if you are ethnically Jewish. So she wrote this in an official document highlighting a character specifically being jewish in a way that feels gross.

Another thing is you literally can't have a setting set in hell with Jewish characters because Hell doesn't exist in the Torah (the holy book) like all that stuff that Jesus said contradicts what was already written which is why Jews don't worship or see Jesus as the Messiah. I'm unsure if he is viewed as a prophet or not. I know in Islam he is seen that way.

I forget the name of the afterlife but basically when bad people die they only suffer for a year and everyone goes to the same place.

Also Rosie possibly being Jewish makes no logical sense because to be Jewish your mom has to be and her mother before her. It's a matriarchal aspect though there are a few places that accept patriarchal descent that is a recent thing. Rosie is Hellborn last I checked and sinners can't reproduce with Hellborns so.... How the fuck is she Jewish?

Then her being a cannibal is very off-putting because a lot of people who barely know anything about Judaism know that Jews usually have a specific diet practice. Now not everyone knows the name of it but it's called Kosher. And yes not everyone practices it is still widely known we aren't supposed to like eat stuff that comes from pigs. It's a bit fucked that the only Jewish character is a cannibal... That probably is connected to some anti semitic stereotype somewhere that I'm unaware of since there's a fuck ton.

Also Vivziepop wants an ethinically accurate cast but instead of specifically asking for a jewish actress she mentioned someone who sounds like a jewish mother... What does that even mean?

Like unlike the goblins from the series that must not be named, this reeks of ignorance instead of malice. Especially, since we know Vivziepop absolutely refuses to do research for her shows that require literally more than a 10 minute google search.

Like you can't fully separate an ethnically Jewish character from the religion itself unlike uh a character from Spain can be separated from Christianity. Like our blood and religion are deeply tied together especially as we are being prosecuted throughout history and still managing to survive it all because of it.

Like if you absolutely want a jewish character in Hazbin your gonna need a sensitivity reader and have to make them a sinner.

The character I see get talk about most about antisemitism in Hazbin Hotel is Mimzy and Rosie is just an "Ah-Ha!" moment for critics because her leak bio directly confirmed it. While there can a discussion if Mimzy can technically count as an Jewish stereotype because we don't know if she's Jewish or not, I found Rosie to be more egregious because Viv used the line, "Rosie has a strong presence and confident energy as a Jewish mother." First what is that even supposed to mean? And second by this description Viv see Rosie as a Jewish character and will code her as such.

I think the critics forget Rosie will be a recurring side character in the show which is why we haven't seen many discussions yet about what it means for Rosie's character to be Jewish coded.

I will said Viv's ignorance is getting to a point of malice to me since she very aware of the criticism she gets for characters like Velvette and Alastor and her not doing research and purposely spreading misinformation because of it is icky. Like this woman has to know eventually she can't just keep making up information of POC groups and religions out of nowhere and has to hire someone from those groups to help her. If Viv really did care about researching about these group for good rep she would have consulted with them first. If Viv hired a Jewish person to help her write Rosie, she would have learned about the problems you addressed with Rosie being a Hellborn who is jewish and the weird implications she added like making the only Jewish character into a cannibal. Viv has claimed Hell is supposed to take inspiration from different religions and cultures but that's just not true because Viv's hell is clearly christian inspired with a hint of demonology elements.

I'm unsure how she would even make the idea work in the first place if Christianity's hell is supposed to be the main setting in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva because different religions have different rules and interpretations of Hell, Heaven, and the characters, heck some religions don't even have Heaven and Hell like what we discuss here.

"pronouns don't equal gender, so someone isn't misgendering you by using the wrong pronouns, because that would imply that your pronouns equal your gender!"

And most of the people I've seen arguing this use multiple or all pronouns.

And they are missing several points.

Yes, pronouns do not automatically equal gender. Anyone can use he/him pronouns, and it doesn't inherently mean you're a man or masculine in any way. Anyone can use she/her pronouns and it doesn't inherently mean you're a woman or feminine in any way. Ect. Ect.

But arguing that pronouns don't equal gender, so therefore no one is ever questioning your gender when they use the wrong pronouns for you, is just so completely flat out wrong it's absurd.

Just because you, personally, don't care what pronouns are used for you does not mean that that's how everyone feels. To argue otherwise is to just be disgustingly transmisic.

These people are also ignoring all of the underlying things that necessitate misgendering in the first place.

I just had someone misgender me on iNaturalist, despite my it/its pronouns not only being on my profile page, but literally in the first paragraph on the first page of the identification guide I made to help people learn how to identify pawpaws and common lookalikes.

"its" and "her" do not share any letters. There's no typo that could accidentally transform "it" to "her".

The people who want to rename misgendering to mispronouning do not fucking understand why misgendering happens. People are not using the wrong pronouns because they're thinking of us with the correct gender, they use the wrong pronouns because despite knowing what gender we actually are, they still think of us as the wrong one.

If you think of a trans person as their actual gender, and you know what their pronouns are, you're not going to accidentally misgender them unless you have to spend half your time not outing them to their family under their instructions.

This person has only ever interacted with me since I started using it/its pronouns. They've only been on the site since after I changed my username to literally be Nonbinary-Naturalist.

They didn't misgender me because they were confusing me for someone else, or were talking about a bunch of different people at once and got two of us mixed up.

They misgendered me because, even though my username is literally Nonbinary-Naturalist, even though my pronouns are listed on my profile page and in the first paragraph of the first page of the pawpaw identification guide I wrote, this person was still thinking of me as a woman. They decided, arbitrarily, based on who knows what criteria, that I was a woman, despite my username and knowing my pronouns are it/its.

Misgendering is called misgendering because the underlying cause of someone using the wrong pronouns is the fundamental refusal to think of the person being misgendered as their actual gender.

Just because you don't give a shit what pronouns people use for you and don't feel misgendered when people use whatever pronouns they want does not mean you get to silence other trans people and deny the very real transmisia that causes misgendering in the first place.

Review: Partials Series by Dan Wells

Hello, everyone! (Salwa, aerkhastisnau!) - Target Audience: Teens & YA - Genre: Science Fiction - One-Sentence Summary: A girl named Kira wants to save humans from a disease and goes on an adventure enlisting the help of Partials (bio-engineered machines) along the way. The Partials series was a series I read when I was young, but have enjoyed it even now. I go back and reread it every once in a while when I feel like delving into that interesting world again where humans and partials are struggling in a post-apocalyptic world. However, as I have gotten older, I do see the strangeness of a 16-17 year old doing all that she has done. I will not spoil it but certain dialogue and the fact that she does things throughout the 3 books that none of the adults and smartest people in the surviving world have managed to do, does stick out to me as silly. But! It is easy to forget that she is her age and just think of her as an adult. So, I found that I can still enjoy it even now and here are some reasons why.

Character development is good. She changed throughout the books and doesn't remain static. Same with the other secondary characters.

Interesting concept of super-soldiers. This is probably the reason why I like it so much. The Partials, being what they are, are pretty cool! They look human but are grown in vats, have a link-system that connects them through breathing, command and rank is built in which can lead to problems because they are literally made not to be able to disobey orders from superiors, and they have the typical super strength, speed, senses; and highly intelligent. They are also built in batches of different models, making each model have a different specialty. From infantry, officers, generals, espionage, drivers, pilots, and etc. They are loosely a hive-mind concept and were treated before the fall like property of the US. Pretty awesome! I found myself wishing that we could delve into them more, see what its like in their "society" during the apocalypse. Just any bit more of information! However, the author did what was good for the books as if we went and dragged it out by showing all the bits about the Partials then it would mess with the flow of the story, probably. But, I want another novella that is set during the present time of the series, Wells!!

The story seems simple, girl finds cure. Incorrect. The 3 books are nicely put together and the cure thing is just a means to get to the real goal, coexistence. The books have ups and downs and inner plots and big plots. Overall, I enjoyed the flow of the story. The first book, I do warn is kind of slow during the first half, but after that the books keep up a good pace and add in little things that you don't see coming. I have a couple smalls mysteries though that I need answers to, Wells! Was it Skinny or Scruffy??? And what was up with the Partial that ran over to them and said something while they were high-tailing it to the bridge???? If I remember correctly, he didn't get to finish what he said or explain why he seemed to be almost friendly to the group.

Con, I did notice that some other reviews mentioned that the last book felt rushed near the end and I do have to agree with them. It has been a bit since I read it, honestly, but I do recall feeling like something was amiss. Like he was trying to wrap it all up and get it all finished and out. He might've been tired of the series and writing it or so. However, it wasn't horrible and totally fine for an ending. Do I wish there was more to read? You bet I wish!! What reader that enjoys a book's world wants to see it end? Anyone that said "yes", are you crazy?! Just kidding, just kidding!.....There better not be anyone that said "Yes". :P

Lastly, this book is pretty friendly towards young people and those who don't want crudeness and a lot of cussing.

the only part about legacy i liked is the scene where bronte is heavily implied to want sophie to become a councillor. other than that the entire experience was MISERABLE that book was. not fun

Correct! Bronte has been an absolute gem this book, between his you should become a councillor/not distract yourself with romance hints and saying he'd be proud if she was his daughter, he's the lone firefly keeping me light in this pitch black hell.

I will say I've also enjoyed Stina; she's not my favorite, but I can really appreciate her development and place in the story here--which makes it even more unfortunate when she gets undeveloped in Stellarlune for the sake of drama. Oh and Tam! He's been a delight, though unfortunately he is currently kidnapped so we're not seeing a lot of him.

Aside from that...I don't think there's anything else I'm enjoying. Smeyer once said that the further you get into a story, the more the possibilities of what it could be narrows into what it is, and the more people you lose who were attached to other possibilities that didn't come to fruition (paraphrased). Which I think might be happened here for me a little.

Because there is just so much talk about matchmaking and finding her parents and how she deserves this etc. etc. And about how difficult its turning out to be to be in a relationship. It's such a central part to the book and I simply do not give a shit! Both about how much its being focused on and how the characters are acting/being written. Yeah, Sophie, I'm sorry you're having relationship troubles, but you literally acknowledged what the mature, reasonable way to proceed was and then didn't do it. Twice. I'm not sympathetic to that

Also the way both Biana and Sophie are like..."would Fitz wait?" in terms of matchmaking when he has canonically said! twice!! that he would go at her pace, however long she needed. Like. Tell me you're being unfair to him and the issue is being forced without telling me you're being unfair to him and the issue is being forced. The whole book is just so unfair to Fitz. He's characterized and attentive and willing to go slow, even though matchmaking is important to him, and then the narrative turns around and makes a bio parent search necessary in connection to him? Rude. He's consistently trying to communicate and be supportive and Sophie's just doubting him and not returning the effort!! So I'm really not sympathetic to her plight. No, Fitz isn't perfect, but I'm upset about all this more

And when Sophie said she was getting really bad at juggling everything she was very very right. Her priorities are all out of order and she keeps ignoring other people, and I understand she's a busy person who deserves a break. But she's letting everything else slack for matchmaking? I cannot find it in me to care.

Listen. I know. I know that Sophie's only ever wanted to be normal and she hoped that's what matchmaking would be for her, one part of her life that was normal. It's just not a sentiment I resonate with so it doesn't really add to the book for me. It was important to her, I get it, and I'm sorry she doesn't get to be normal like she wants. But there are people relying on her, responsibilities she has agreed to and is failing to deliver on--which also brings me to Team Valiant and all that. They're reaching a stage where they're like "we need to work alongside the council, the black swan has always wanted to work with them" and maybe this is because I grew up with a shit government, but whenever I read that I roll my eyes. because like. fuck the council. they have total control and have consistently fucked up in the past, and overestimate their importance as naturally chosen to lead this world, while also wanting us to sympathize with the burden. it is under the council and their choices that these problems have come to pass, so if it were me I don't know if I'd make the same choices as the characters. and I don't think working alongside the council would've ever been my goal. like hooray if they want to do something that benefits our goals to fix everything in the end, I won't stop them, but also. that doesn't make them wonderful and reliable and mean we shouldn't continue to critique and fix things outside of them. like marx said

I think I could stand it more if there was a balance between all her matchmaking/parentage woes and everything else going on in the series, but it just feels overwhelming. And I really don't care. And I don't like how it's being explored and written. So this book has been very painful to read through.

This isn't everything, but its some of it. Fortunately I do quite like unlocked, so I'll have a brief reprieve of enjoyment before I dive into Stellarlune :)

Life stuff update!

Haven't posted about this first bit anywhere because... wow personal, but it's been a majority chunk of life lately.

Husband put in his notice at his current teaching job a while back. He's been working there for 8 years and is supposedly one of their most valued teachers, yet he barely takes home $100 more per paycheck than when he started. Plus our insurance is insane, taking most of his check every month whilst covering literally fucking nothing (we are still paying off my doctor-ordered biopsy!). PLUS his commute is fucking ludicrous - in the winter he regularly drives over 3 hours a day to a shit job that doesn't pay anything. I barely see him for a hour or two each day during the school year.

Bio clock is ticking, just saying. Never really had that baby-wanting impulse until very recently, and there was absolutely zero possibility of us starting a family while he's at this job. No money, no time, no medical support.

So. Bye. After talking to a therapist to help us through the plunge, we finally decided enough was enough.

He doesn't have another job lined up after summer school, so in August we have zero certain income. Neither off us is particularly panicked about this; the hiring wave for fall teaching positions has yet to happen, and there are several things he can do even if he can't find a full-time job at a local district.

What's looking most likely is actually that he'll juggle part-time jobs for a while. Subbing or other work at a district he's interested in will help him get a foot in the door, meanwhile an afternoon or weekend cashier job at the co-op down the street (where I used to work) has some distinct benefits. First off, he could WALK to work, and the co-op offers higher hourly rates and better promotional opportunities than his current "salaried" teaching job. Add on a big discount at the place where we buy most of our groceries anyway...

Anyway. That's been a lot.

Meanwhile I've been doing the housewife thing. Which actually entails more than just "chores" - I've been doing a huuuuge amount of work on my mental and physical health. I've lost 40 pounds (with 60+ to go) and have completely changed my eating, which has helped immeasurably with CFS, Depression, and life in general. I've started socializing again after years of serious, life-altering anxiety. Basically, I'm getting my life back. Or maybe getting my life for the first time? I was so mentally ill for so long that this really feels like the first time I've been genuinely balanced... maybe ever?

Whether that new peace of mind encourages me back into fandom I have no idea. Fandom social mores seem to have shifted over the years. Maybe it's just the glimpses I see now and then, but the Internet as a whole doesn't seem too anonymous or even like... baseline compassionate for anyone anymore. That's probably a matter of what you make of it, but even so, I'd be lying if I said spending my time in fandom spaces hasn't lost most of its personal appeal. I've been much happier offline, so that's where I've been. I do miss my friends, and I wish they lived down the street and not inside the scary computron. It'd be great to write again, but my interest in fandom work might be over. I'll never say never, but right now I just don't see it. Maybe someday I finally get back into the habit; but it's gonna happen in its own time if it does.

Lately I've been working on my YouTube thing, though where that'll end up nobody knows. It's certainly not a serious money-making prospect, nor am I aiming to make it one. YouTube actually scares the ever-loving shit out of me, so it's pretty much a deliberate mental health exercise. My whole attitude toward it has been "stress less, make more." So I treat it kind of like a journal of the nail shit that has taken over my life (lolllll), and a chance to pay forward all the relaxation I've gotten over the years watching Nail YouTube. It'd be nice if I could eventually have enough subs to maybe pay for some nail supplies or get some free PR or something, but that's about as ambitious as I get.

After I read what is currently happening to focusonhinata on Twitter/X, I do remember the time when the pandemic has just started and Kubo posted on his official account of a sketch of Ichigo and his son Kazui (who looks like Orihime) with a reminder to stay at home. As expected, the sibling from another mother of the NaruSakus, IchiRukis, started to post their BS fanarts of their fantasy IchiRuki family and told BS that both the canon couples are nonsense. Too bad for them, the Japanese fans are laughing at their antics and the reasonable western ones were telling them to grow up and not ruin the moment.

Anyways, returning back to focusonhinata, accusing someone of copying their idea is kinda bollocks since we don't even know if he/she really copied it from the person the Sakura stans are referring to. Unless the Sakura stans show proof that one of them created the design that focusonhinata said to have copied by showing the base template and its actual date of creation, focusonhinata is innocent unless proven otherwise. Man, their character is already not that loved and their actions as fans are fueling the flames of hatred for Sakura, so much so that it could have been a factor why the theater actress of Sakura and her Japanese voice actress were harassed hard by angry people. I don't condone or support harassing actors or voice actors who portrayed hated characters, it's just their job. Much like how we shouldn't harass mangakas for making story decisions we never liked.

Its the other way around focusonsakura was accused of copying focusonhinata and the reason for that the first account is an exact copy of the Hinata one just replacing Hinata with Sakura. It goes beyond just having the same idea or getting the same inspiration theme, posts, bio, tweets and literally everything from focusonhinata is taken and replaced with Sakura on the other account.

Then when focusonhinata pointed this out Sakura fandom all attacked and harassed them.

I get what you are saying about accusing of copying someone, I had another ask about Sakura week accusing Hinata week of copying their banner when all the actual design elements used are different or were open source just that both used a very basic and common layout that can find anywhere.

What happened with focusonhinata though is intentional cause everything she does gets copied with not anything of the Sakura account original or being different outside the character used.

I have one post related to the franchise before I knew how big of a deal it was to make fan-related content (I thought it was okay to still go on with stuff she doesn't get money from), which I decided to not continue writing it the moment I understood it might've been hurtful to someone.

You also assume I don't listen to fellow friends/followers. The thing is, you don't know me, this is Tumblr, I do not show everything about me in my blog. I have lgbtq sources I go to inform myself on how to approach topics that interest the community but not me personally because I wanna be supportive. You also have to understand that I get my information mainly from Italian resources and the approach on the topic might be different. This is not me speaking for the Italian trans community, obviously, but they seem to not really care if you engage with fanmade content, while I see in the "internet world" trans creators who don't accept fanmade as well and some do. I simply don't know where I stand but in the meantime, I'm not engaging even with fanmade stuff just to be safe.

All of this to say, I have no problem admitting that I don't know what I should do about fan-made related content because I tried to understand but with the mixed up opinions I simply don't know. Me not knowing translates to me engaging with any content until I understand better.

I'm trying really hard to not see malice in your words to be honest, since you've been assuming so much stuff about me. Everything else you touched upon it doesn't apply to me (like having nostalgia about the books, I never once said anything like that).

All of this being said, I am sorry to know that people are cautious about me. I hope you can understand that this blog is supposed to be a happy place to talk about Stranger Things and have a nice break from chaotic everyday life and I'm really saddened to know that it isn't as lighthearted as I thought.

To the people who were disappointed/had hard feelings after reading my bio, I am sorry. I mean it, I would never write something anywhere with the intention of hurting everyone.

To anyone who reads this, I hope you don't see me in a bad light after what this anon wrote and my response, I'm trying to handle this situation the best I can and be mindful of everyone's feelings. I am far from perfect but I am trying.
