Big fan of fics where Garak assumes he and Julian are in an outright romantic committed relationship which has to be kept quiet for safety reasons while Julian is misreading everything and thinks they're just friends with benefits and that the secrecy is because Garak doesn't want to bring actual emotions or commitment into it.

Garak is sad they can't be more public and worries that he's not good enough for Julian, and Julian is sad because he thinks Garak isn't in love with him and he's just a fun endorphin release on lonely nights in exile.

I liked how in Nosferatu it’s shown that Ellen not only leaves Thomas behind, lets him go, but she effectively remarries, by dressing up in wedding gown and pledging herself to Orlok and then consumating their sort of marriage. Orlok came before Thomas as Ellen’s dark suitor and Ellen ended up in the end with Orlok, not Thomas. Lilacs as running theme also support it because they are associated with Orlok so even when Ellen was marrying Thomas with lilacs on her head she was involving Orlok into her marriage.

Yes, the lilacs!.. God, the lilacs. She wore them throughout the film, on her dresses, in her hair, as a scent - they're such a prominent motif, and it's very clear that she was never able to let go of her occult nature entirely, despite her very best efforts to conform. The way Orlok reacts to the scent of them in the locket is so telling, too!.. It must've felt like a secret note, passed in code - my first love, I've never forgotten you. Come to me. The hesitation, the slight trembling in his hands as he holds it. The way he keeps it without question, the way he can't resist opening it just to catch the scent - again, again, again. There is something so vulnerable about their connection, on either side.

I think that's why their consummation is so tender sdksjgdjh

this was initially going to be another artist study (specifically workflow) but i got real lazy real fast, i think there's a prev post where i colored & drew some details on the pocket watches but since then i've redone a significant portion of this as i generally didn't vibe with it & still kind of don't, especially the lapels & shirt collars

y'know what we don't talk about enough? Hazel died. We talk about how she grew up in the 30's and 40's and we talk about how out of place she feels in the modern world, but! She died! She was dead! She has spent more time dead than alive, and not by a close margin!

How does that effect a person??? We got some of it in the flashbacks, but once those caught up with her present timeline and she shared them, they just kind of... disappeared. And she was a regular girl with some weird past experiences. That's one way of doing it, sure!

I think it would have been a lot cooler if she was just a touch creepier. If she felt a little bit Wrong. Yeah, in general she's more approachable than her brother, she's more sociable and less closed off, but. If you actually spend any time with her, it can be difficult to tell which child of the underworld is actually more unsettling.

Hazel is bright of personality and has a dazzling smile, but sometimes she'll just... shut down. She'll go completely blank for like half an hour and nobody knows what to do with it. Sometimes she forgets she's alive. Sometimes she'll spout the grimmest shit you've ever heard like it's nothing, she won't even notice it's weird until the room goes quiet. She spent decades in Asphodel, which is designed to make people forget about themselves and wander around for eternity, only she didn't have the luxury of forgetting! Wild! After she comes back to life, sometimes she forgets that she's allowed to Do Stuff now. She can spend so long sitting and staring at nothing. Sometimes she'll start crying on cloudless days because it hits her again that she can actually feel the warmth of the sun on her skin and she can hear birdsong. Every little mundane experience is a blessing and she will make you remember that in the most foreboding way possible.

Still can’t believe Ken only got one episode. He was introduced in one of the most important episodes of the Highbreed arc, was hyped up by Ben and Gwen for the first half of the episode, was kidnapped and turned into a DNAlien, forced to attack his grandpa, sister and cousin while also finding out for the first time about their secret powers and the existence of aliens and then thought he watched Grandpa Max die (which I imagine he might feel was his fault since he was the bait to lure Max in). The writers really gave this guy the most traumatic weekend of his life, mentioned him in 1 line in 1 other episode and then yeeted him out of existence.

What makes this situation even worse is that this all happened before Ben’s secret identity got leaked and the existence of aliens was common knowledge to the public. He wouldn’t even be able to go to a therapist as his story essentially boiled down to ‘being kidnapped by aliens’ and ‘experimented on’ (mutated into one) No one would ever believe that.

I really hope the Plumbers put some kind of support system in place after the Highbreed war ended for everyone who was turned into DNAliens.

#I haven't said much about it + when I have it was mostly jokes about the subject #but Opal has a lot of strong emotions about her family's history.#she grew up completely unaware of it all. no one told her anything because it wasn't ongoing and therefore didn't impact her directly.#Ark was willing to sit down with Opal and run through a (significantly censored + age-appropriate) summary of the family's history #but Twig was ADAMANT that they not tell her anything unless she asked at a much later age.#She didn't want the past to hang over her daughter's head and was terrified of Opal being damaged by things.#She won't lie if she asks her things in her mid-teens. But she's not letting anything slip on her own or before then.#Opal feels bad because the trauma of it all isn't hers and yet she still feels upset about it.#She knows she isn't required to be told everything and yet she still feels betrayed by people hiding it from her.#She loves her family members so much. it's so strange to look at them and know #she wouldn't recognize her own parents even just a decade before she hatched.#She hears about a confrontation between Mother and Uncle Kip and Uncle Grovyle and that it was apparently pretty bad.#Kip doesn't have any of the scars he had as a mudkip anymore. There's nothing there except for an old burn from a slip in the kitchen.#There's so much that happened to everyone that she doesn't know anything about.#She wonders if Uncle Grovyle's persistent pain comes from a duel to the death with the one who wears time as a cloak himself.#She wonders if Dusknoir's shaking hands when she talks to him in a charmander's form come from things done to Mother.#She wonders if Dad's refusal to leave her alone with Cresselia comes from the same things that made him want a world locked in stasis.#Even after she's got a more rounded understanding of her family's background #Opal still doesn't know much about where Mother came from before the point where Grovyle took her under his wing.#She asks about it--- where she grew up. who Opal could call her relatives from her side. Dad doesn't have a bio family; but she does right?#Mother takes a while to answer. She sits next to Opal in silence. They watch the fireplace crackle warmly.#(Mother is watching it with a kind of bone-crushing exhaustion Opal has never seen from her.)#She smiles. “I grew up underground like all the other humans. While the World's Slowest Slowburn makes the most logical sense, between Kiran and Alfonse. In my heart. from a vibes perspective, i totally understand why so many people look at keefe and go ‘this guy would be the male equivalent of a wine aunt when he’s older’.

but. but.

taking lore into consideration, in my heart, he’s terrified of alcohol (even if he tries really hard to hide it). because. like. his first exposure is almost guaranteed to be through cassius, and cassius canonically threw a glass extremely close to him at least once when he was, like, 8. maybe cassius wasn’t always extra nasty when he was drunk, but there’s gotta be a correlation in keefe’s brain between risking getting seriously hurt (emotionally or physically) and alcohol consumption that’s really hard for him to shake.
