What would your 1 year, 5 year and 10 year plan be for The Duchess of Cambridge if you were her private secretary?

What would you do if you were Kate’s private secretary

Because I loved Jessica’s answer, I’m curious to know what would you do as Catherine’s Private Secretary? what would be your plan in the short, medium and long term and how would you handle the PR aspect.

First of all, sorry to Jessica and her anon who created this idea because I have blatantly stolen it and, second, thank you to my anons who clearly read my tags! I’m going to answer the PR aspect more in another post so stay tuned!

1 YEAR – this is from September 1 2020 to August 31 2021

From September, I would expect to see her more. I’d tell her to do at least one visible engagement a week (following social distancing) and at least one other engagement, preferably with a photo/photos released after the fact. I know she takes the school holidays off, which is fine, but I’d want her to make up the “missed” engagements in other weeks

In January, I’d expect Louis to start nursery (I think he would have started in April but a global pandemic had other ideas and I can understand why they haven’t started him in September). Once he’s in nursery and the others are back in full time school, I’d want to see her up her engagement count to at least two visible engagements per week (pre-pandemic I said that if she worked the equivalent of 3 mornings a week that would be 156 engagements)

I don’t imagine there will be much overseas travel in the next year but I’d like to see her do zoom calls with charities from Commonwealth Countries with similar concepts to her patronages. While she can’t go abroad, I want her and Will to essentially do what Felipe and Letizia have been doing – tour the UK, visiting areas which have been affected by the pandemic (and by UK I mean all four countries, as well as the islands, if possible)

Continue her work with the Baby Banks (which I love) and release a statement saying the Early Years Foundation is continuing but in the immediate future they’re going to focus on early years in response to the pandemic. I think she should do some work with schools and nurseries, focused on that massive gap from March to September this year, and work with families who spent lockdown with little room and the impact that will have had on their mental health. I’d also like her to return to her garden idea and do something around making more public green space

Social media-wise, I’d like to see a balance of what they’re doing now and what they did during lockdown. For engagements, I’d like to see a selection of photos and a formally written description. If something more casual happens, they can make a separate post about that. I’d tell them to continue releasing photos for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Easter, etc. I’d also tell them to try and release a short video of the kids when they can – for example, they could release a video of them wrapping presents to donate to a food bank near Christmas

Similarly, I’m assuming there will be open air pantos this Christmas. Go to one with George and Charlotte.

Their 10 year wedding anniversary is next year. In the lead up to their anniversary, I’d tell them to make posts on social media about different aspects of their wedding – the cake, the flowers, the dress, the ceremony, the carriages, the charities they raised money for – as well as behind the scenes photos if they have any. On April 29th, I’d tell them to release a new “couple” photo, as well as private photos from their wedding day. I’d like them to release a full royal regalia couple photo as well, but it might not be appropriate coming off the back of the pandemic (off topic but I also want to see lots of their 40th birthdays the year afterwards)

5 YEARS

Early Years – release the results of the 5 big questions survey, with information as to what they’re going to do with the findings. I’d love her to do something in early years education, as well as more work supporting the mental health of early years and new parents. I’d tell her to release a yearly update and show some photographs of the behind the scenes work

Sports – Kmiddy loves her sport so I’d tell her to keep going with that. I think she needs to focus on introducing children to sport and sport children from poorer and disadvantaged backgrounds can easily access

Patronages – Kate needs to do at least 1 engagement for each of her Patronages each year. She always does an engagement for the AELTACC but I want the same energy for everything. If one of her patronages is doing fundraising or launching an initiative, I want her to get behind it. I’d also like to see her take on new patronages in new areas

The arts – coming off the back of the pandemic, the arts need support. I’d tell her to go to at least one show a year, as well as visit her museum and gallery patronages. I’d suggest she tries to create or support a programme getting disadvantaged children access to the arts. I’d also like her to do more around the concept of arts as a form of therapy for younger children

State Visits – I love seeing her at state dinners but I want her involved in the rest of the visit as well. When the Japanese State Visit gets rearranged, perhaps she could join the Emperor and Empress on a tour of the NHM or the V&A. Even just meeting with them and releasing a behind the scenes photo of a private dinner between the Cambridges and whoever.

The UK – keep visiting the whole of the UK. The UK summer holidays are 6 weeks but for private schools, it’s longer, so George and Charlotte will normally get a summer holiday of around 8 weeks. For three of those weeks, I’d like to see the Cambridge family go on holiday to Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. They don’t have to be consecutive weeks. For example, during their Wales holiday (they could stay in one place one year, travel around Wales the next year, etc.) they could arrive on the Monday and visit a market town with the kids, visit a charity on Tuesday, have Wednesday private, take the kids to somewhere outdoorsy and sporty on Thursday, and release some private photos on the Friday. They still have 5 weeks to have private holidays etc.

The King’s Cup Regatta – make it an annual thing, changing up the charities. Continue participating. Take the kids. The Middleton’s came last time, invite the whole RF

The children – continue taking the children to TTC and Christmas. Try and do a family polo match at least twice a year, taking the kids, and letting the public see them interact with their cousins. I also want to see them on UK-based engagements that aren’t trooping. Go to the ballet and take Charlotte. Apparently, they all love cooking, do an outdoor kids cooking engagement. George loves helicopter so take him to an Air Cadet engagement. Something around the idea of a sporting event for young children would be a good idea to take them to

A new project – I expect Kate to create a new project in the next 5 years. I’d like it to be connecting her work in Early Years with her work in the arts. I would straight up pay her to make it about textiles

10 YEARS – aka the Princess of Wales (this will be vaguer)

Overseas visits – I put this in 10 years, not 5 years, because I don’t know what the state of travel will be like over the next year or so. Each year, I want to see two full tours, at least one of which needs to be a Will & Kate tour. The other one can be a Cambridge tour, a Will & Kate tour, or a solo Kate tour. I want them to continue visiting other monarchies (during their W&K tours) and I think they still need to continue with their Brexit charm offensive. I’d also love to see more tours to South America and East Asia. For solo tours, I’m more than happy for Kate to keep doing single day trips until Louis is older but, after that, I need her to go to Italy. I also think she could do a full solo Mediterranean tour

Foreign royals – the Scandi tour is popular for a reason. More visits to foreign monarchies and more engagement with foreign royals. When foreign monarchs die, go to the funerals. When foreign royals marry/give birth, at least send/post a message, if not go to the wedding. If another royal family visits the UK, participate in the State Visit. Once they are Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, they will be the same place in the line of succession as Victoria, Frederik, Haakon, Guillaume, etc. Use that. Haakon and Fred both have interest in sports – create an engagement around that. The Crown Princess Victoria's Fund supports children with chronic illnesses and functional disabilities – create an engagement focused on the mental health of these children

Patronages – she needs to take more on. I don’t expect to see as many as the old guard because I still think she should try and do one engagement per patronage per year at least, but she should take on patronages in other areas: fostering, child abuse, postpartum psychosis, mothers in prison, arts as therapy, sports as therapy, green spaces, forest schools, baby banks, food banks, underprivileged and underfunded schools, clubs for disadvantaged children. She also needs some more boring patronages, like the military and diplomatic ones

Away days – I’d expect a minimum of two full away days a month, scattered throughout the UK. If a full away day can’t happen, she needs to do more engagements in places that aren’t London, similar to her UK tour for 5BigQuestions. Work with disadvantaged areas in the North. Work with outdoor spaces and forest schools in the South West. Look into language in North Wales. Talk about food banks in Perth. I want to see her continue the holidays in the UK. As the Duchess of Cornwall and possibly Princess of Wales, I want to see more engagements in Wales and Cornwall, like Charles and Camilla currently do

Taboo topics – now she’s found her feet, I’d like her to start looking at those more taboo subjects. Kate works with mental health – I’d suggest she starts looking into psychosis and BPD, and schizophrenia. She works with children – look at the impact of prisons and the prison system on people under the age of 18. She is passionate about maternal mental health – what about parents in prison? What about parents who aren’t mentally stable enough to care for all the needs of their children? Other areas which I think fit her interests are child and domestic abuse, childhood drug abuse, and fostering

As an apology, accept this really long part! Another thing I want to add is that I’m more used to writing OC stories rather than reader centered ones. You swore under your breath as you veered around an elderly couple. You had overslept and if you didn’t reach the train station in another minute, you were going to be late for class. You lived at the university dorms so you had never really been late before. But you and one of your best friends had had a sleepover at your other best friend’s house and last night had been spent binge watching Lee Jong Suk’s dramas (in honor of his enlistment, and because you just loved him). Unlike you, they didn’t have morning classes so now they were sleeping soundly at home while you were just hoping you reached class before your professor.

Luck was not in your favor though, because you encountered one of the largest crowds you had ever seen (and you had seen a lot, considering how much of your free time you spent going to music shows and fan meets) at a little distance from the station. You saw some people taking pictures and, while you were offended on behalf of their center-of-attention whose privacy was being invaded, a part of you was tempted to stop and see which idol or actor was causing this commotion—you were sure it was either of the two because that was the only logical explanation. But your professor’s angry face appeared before your eyes, and you seriously wanted to not fail, so you pushed through the crowd and got to the station.

About ten minutes into your journey, your phone began to vibrate. Intensely. You pulled it out of your pocket and saw a ton of notifications. Most were from twitter, accompanied by a single one from a tabloid. You clicked on that, figuring it would make more sense than the frenzy of tweets. The headline read:

BIGBANG’S G-DRAGON spotted enjoying his military leave with his sister.

The article went on to say that he had “attracted a lot of attention.” So GD was on a leave? And so-called fans and paparazzi—or should you say Dispatch—wouldn’t even let him relax on his break. Now, you wouldn’t call yourself a VIP, but you had been listening to K-pop since you learnt the language and regarded BIGBANG as one of K-pop’s legendary groups. You could sing along to most of their songs and many of their solos (maybe you should call yourself a VIP). Which made you not exactly happy about how GD was being treated.

The tabloid article also had pictures. Dispatch is fast, you thought. He was wearing a black mask and a cap, so his face was barely visible. It was surprising how anyone had managed to recognize him. But then again, you had recognized him in the photos immediately so it wouldn’t have been hard for longtime VIPs to do the same. Taking a closer look at the photos, you noticed something strange. His surroundings looked familiar. Two years of living in Seoul had made you quite well-acquainted with the city and with a start, you recognized his location. The crowd you had just encountered had been caused by him.

The fangirl inside you freaked out. You had walked right past THE G-Dragon. A part of you cursed yourself for wanted to be a good student and not stopping, while another part tried to convince you to get off the train at the next station and run back. The more rational part of you, however, curbed all these stupid ideas. Enough people had swarmed him already without you joining them. Besides, you had a class to get to.

Scrolling through the comments, you were in the midst of adding one of your own to rebuke Dispatch for invading his privacy and making him uncomfortable when something on your wrist caught your eye and you almost dropped the phone. Setting it down on your lap, you turned your wrist over.

And gasped.

The 0 you were accustomed to seeing on the inside of your right wrist was not there. In its place was a cursive 1.

You ended up skipping the first class, not because you didn’t reach the university on time, but because you spent about half an hour in the toilet bawling your eyes out. You had finally passed the boy you had wanted to meet your entire life. Only, you had simply passed him, without even realizing it. What were the odds of meeting the guy you passed only once in your two years in Seoul, especially when you had passed each other at or around a busy train station? You weren’t one to be pessimistic usually, but it was frustrating how you moved to an entirely different country for your soulmate, but you hadn’t even been able to find out what said soulmate looked like.

Your bad (awful) day didn’t end after that. Sleep deprivation combined with narrowly missing your soulmate lead to a terrible mood and a terrible headache, you learnt, and you were not able to concentrate in any of your classes. So, several consecutive classes later, you had a clear plan in your head. You were going to crash onto your bed in the dorm and catch up on at least a bit of the sleep you had forsaken for Lee Jong Suk. You would worry about your soulmate when you were thinking straight.

Naturally, you forgot to set your alarm.

For the second time that day, you overslept. This time you were running late for work. Unlike class, you had been late for work several times and knew that your manager would absolutely kill you if you were late again. So, you got dressed in a frenzy, almost left all the lights switched on, and, for the second time that day, you ran for your life.

You reached the coffee shop you worked at ten minutes after your shift started and thankfully your manager thought a warning glare was enough punishment. You hurried to the employees’ room at the back of the shop and changed into your uniform. A quick peek in the mirror informed you that you looked like a mess. Your dark circles had somehow intensified and your hair resembled a bird’s nest, courtesy of the fact that you hadn’t bothered to brush it. It was frustrating how this was what you looked like the day your soulmate showed up (though you were sure he hadn’t noticed you either). You pulled it back into a ponytail in a measly attempt to tame it. While it was not the most effective, at least now you looked less like a homeless sleep deprived person and would gladly face your soulmate if he showed up at the coffee shop. Which was next to impossible, because he had never come here in the two years you had been working here.

The smell of coffee began to put your mind at ease once you settled down at the counter. As you prepared two teenage girls’ orders—a strawberry shake and an iced americano (totally contrasting drinks, you mentally noted)—you fell into a sort of routine, unlike the events of the morning. That put you in a comparatively comfortable state of mind and your thoughts finally began to align themselves. Usually, you kept a novel or a textbook with you during your shift but having very conveniently forgotten to bring anything with you afforded you the opportunity to think of your soulmate—who hadn’t really left your mind all day anyway. Maybe he took the morning train from that station everyday and you hadn’t ever crossed him before because that was not your usual route? You often stayed at your friend’s house, so you had taken trains from that station many times though. Had the timing always been wrong? Or had your soulmate recently moved to Seoul? Was he from another city? Busan? Daejeon? Pyongyang, North Korea?

A loud grumbling sound broke your train of thoughts. With a start, you realized it had ensued from your stomach. The only thing you had consumed the entire day was a cup of coffee and some cookies you had found in your bag. You were starving. A particular red velvet cupcake, with cream cheese frosting, had caught your eye and was enticing you to have it. The only customer in the shop was seated at a table by the window, typing away at his laptop. He had been like that for about an hour, his now cold coffee abandoned on the table. You could afford a snack break, then. There was at least one perk of working at a place that had food. You retrieved cupcake and quickly punched yourself a receipt which included the 20% employees’ discount, adding the due amount to the cash register. You settled down on a stool and indulged in a bite of the heavenly cupcake (that you enjoyed more than you normally would because of the lack of food in your system).

The bell above the door rang, and you tried to swallow it down so that you could greet the new customer. You glanced towards the door and nearly choked on said cupcake. Walking towards the counter, wearing a black hoodie and the same cap he was wearing in the picture you had seen earlier but having somehow lost the mask, was Kwon Jiyong. Aka GD. Aka G-Dragon.

What? How? What is he doing here? Is it really him? But-

Incoherent half-thoughts ran through your mind, but the gist was wondering why he was here of all places. Was it because this particular coffee shop was not in a mainstream area? Or had he suddenly craved coffee and had been tempted by the fact that there was only one other customer?

You were able to regain some of your composure and uh, not choke by the time he got to you. Your manager’s hawk eyes were on you and you could not afford to appear unprofessional, no matter how much you wanted to squeal and ask this man for an autograph. He probably noticed that you knew who he was though because a wide smile appeared on his face and you nearly melted in a puddle (Be professional, Y/N! you scolded yourself internally.) Either that, or he had found your almost-choking antic amusing. Possibly both.

“Good evening, sir!” At least your voice hadn’t betrayed you.

“Hello,” he said, raising his eyebrows. “Your Korean pronunciation is pretty good.”

“Oh, thank you.” A blush threatened to appear on your face. “I’ve been living in Seoul for a while.” And I’ve been learning Korean for more than a decade, you decided to not add.

He ordered an iced Americano and you began to prepare it for him. Unlike with most customers, you felt extra nervous, mainly because you could feel his eyes following you. You were just hoping not to mess up.

“You know,” he began, “I thought you would ask me for an autograph. I know you recognized me.”

Whoops, busted!

You smiled. “I want to, but my manager would kill me if I do, so I can’t.” Conversing with him had seemed like a hurdle two seconds ago but now that he had initiated conversation, it was just…natural. As if talking to Kwon Jiyong was the most normal thing in the world and something you had been doing your entire life.

He chuckled. “You’re that scared of him?”

“I can’t afford to lose this job,” you said, shrugging as you handed him his drink. You had never seen him in person before, and you were a pretty big fan of his, but after your initial shock, you couldn’t help but wonder at how comfortable you felt talking to him. It was strange because you were the kind of person who could never be completely relaxed talking to an ordinary person for the first time, much less talking to an idol.

“I guess I can give it to you the next time I come here, then.”

Now that was something that made you almost freak out. “You’re going to come here again?” you asked. It was hard to mask the excitement on your face, and he seemed to find that very amusing. At least, that was what you inferred from the wide gummy smile that adorned his face, and you couldn’t help thinking of how cute it looked.

He took a sip from his drink. “Well, the coffee’s good,” he grinned, “So yeah, I am.” His phone buzzed and he glanced at the screen.

“I need to go now.” He stepped back from the counter. “See you next time.”

“Bye!” you called out. He waved at you over his shoulder as he opened the door and for some reason you were waving back, not caring that your manager was rolling his eyes at you.

“Oh, sit down already!” your roommate and one of your best friends, Soo-jin, whined. You rolled your eyes as you plopped down on your bed next to Min-ji, your other best friend.

“Okay, now spill,” Min-ji ordered. You had briefly told them what happened the entire day and they had deemed it too important to discuss in the morning, so the three of you were now gathered at your dorm room. Min-ji was the friend whose house you had had a sleepover at the previous night. She had decided to stay at your and Soo-jin’s room that night so you could talk peacefully.

“What do I start with, GD or soulmate?”

“GD!” they cried in unison. Both of them had been BIGBANG fans since they were kids. You told them how you had seen a crowd in the morning which had turned out to be because of him, and then how he had showed up at your workplace. When you finished, they just stared at you for a second.

“Woah,” Min-ji breathed out finally. “You’re so damn lucky.”

“But he is so sweet!” Soo-jin exclaimed. The fangirling was starting now. “He even asked if you wanted an autograph.”

“I know right. And telling her that he’d come again!” Min-ji was almost squealing now. She looked at you. “How did you even survive it?”

“I almost didn’t. I’m just glad I didn’t totally freak out and left a, you know, terrible impression.” You shrugged. Now that you thought of it, it was odd that he had talked to you at all. Hadn’t he been ambushed by enough fans already for one day? He knew you knew who he was, so why talk to you any more than necessary? In any case, the three of you discussed (err, fangirled over) him a little longer before Min-ji remembered you had another important matter to discuss.

“What about your soulmate, though?” she asked. “When did you pass him?” Both of your friends had already found their soulmates. Min-ji’s happened to be her neighbor so they had known each other almost their entire lives. Soo-jin’s soulmate was one of your seniors and they had met a little after she started university.

“My counter changed to one in the morning.” You leaned back into a pillow. “I noticed when I was on the train. We probably crossed on the station, or when I was rushing to it.” You sighed. If only you had been paying more attention to your surroundings, you would have met yours too.

“Hey, what if your soulmate’s one of those Dispatch photographers?” Soo-jin exclaimed. You snorted.

“Dispatch? Seriously?” You rolled your eyes at her. You could always count on your friends to find all sorts of weird ways to cheer you up.

“That’s totally possible, though,” Min-ji added, playing along. “Didn’t you say he’s older than you?”

“You’ll have to start stalking Dispatch’s professional stalkers!”

“That might actually end up being a good thing.” You laughed. “I’d know all the latest gossip.”

Min-ji nudged you with her foot. “Show us your counter.” You thrust your wrist towards them. They promptly gasped, as you had expected them to. Your friends tended to be quite dramatic too.

“I know,” you began, “it is surprising. I was so shock—”

“Y/N,” Min-ji interrupted, “when did you last check your counter.”

“When I was leaving for work, I think. Why?”

“Well, it’s not Dispatch, for sure,” Soo-jin whistled.

“What?”

“Look at it again.”

You did, and you gasped too. Your wrist didn’t say 1 anymore. Now it read 2.

To say that Jiyong was confused would be an understatement. He was far beyond confusion. He was conflicted in the worst possible way. His entire day had been…chaotic. It hadn’t entirely been bad—he had experienced intense excitement and adoration at one point—but it had not been an ideal way to spend his break. Even trying to make sense of everything that had happened made his head throb.

When he had managed to disengage himself from the swarm of paparazzi at the station, he noticed that the counter that had read 0 for the past 20 years suddenly read 1. He had always imagined he would be overjoyed at this occasion. Strangely, he hadn’t been anywhere near overjoyed. He had become too used to living as if he had no soulmate. The discovery that not only did he have one, but that his soulmate was very close was a change he hadn’t seen coming, and it was not entirely welcome. And, he had to admit, he was also frustrated because he had only passed his soulmate, rather than actually meeting.

He had decided he needed coffee to clear his head and had taken great pains to find a place where he could get it without attracting public notice (again). At least, he had thought that was his consideration. But, in hindsight, it could have been the soulmate pull. They did say it worked in strange ways. How else could he, out of all the coffee shops in Seoul, have ended up at the one his soulmate worked at? Crossing her once in a day could be a coincidence but meeting her again in the span of some hours could most certainly not be one. In any case, he had winded up at her workplace. There, he had encountered a cute, albeit quite young, foreign part-timer who knew him, he had realized immediately. After the rough morning, he should have bolted but something had compelled him to stay. And he had discovered that the part-timer was fun to talk to.

He hadn’t realized she was his soulmate until he got back to his car and his manager pointed out that his counter had changed again. That was when things had begun to click in his head and the reason talking to her was fun started to become clear. He had been tempted to run back inside and tell her this new turn of events. But that had been accompanied with thoughts of rejection that held him back, and he had felt suffocated beneath a variety of emotions. Instead, he had told his manager to drive on.

That was why he was currently lying on his living room couch, a steaming bowl of ramen he suddenly did not want to eat abandoned on the mahogany table in front of him and all the lights expect the one in the hallway switched off. The atmosphere was gloomy, but he liked it better that way; it was a perfect representation of his inner turmoil. Her eyes, wide with excitement and surprise as they had been when he had mentioned coming again, seemed to be permanently etched in his brain. Now that he had uncovered her identity, the pull felt even stronger. His entire being was craving her. And she had moved to Seoul, so that would mean she was looking for her soulmate too. Had she put two and two together yet and realized she was actually looking for him?

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shake off the doubts. He had gotten his counter when he was ten, so that would mean she had to be twenty. He had always known about the age gap, so it didn’t really bother him. It wasn’t like she was a minor or anything. But was she okay with it? All her knowledge about her soulmate came from whatever he had first said after she was born. He didn’t even remember what he had said. He just hoped it wasn’t something stupid. In any case, the most she could have inferred from that would be that he was a Korean man a few years older than her. There was a big difference in being a few years older and around ten years older. And did she even want him as her soulmate? His life hadn’t really been a pure, sinless, scandal-free one. She probably knew about that.

And most importantly, he didn’t like the pull. His mind was sort of sick of the effect the bond was having on him. It wasn’t her fault, but it made him want to avoid her at all costs.

What was he to do now? Go to her the next day? Or pretend his counter still said 0? Coming to a conclusion was not easy. He told himself to wait until his enlistment was over and then approach her. If she wanted to find him, she wouldn’t leave before she did. But even when eventually he drifted into a light, troubled slumber, he had not managed to convince himself.

"Noona. Jin-hyung will keep you safe, so don't worry for now. I'll call him to get you."

"Kook."

"Noona, please."

You didn't say anything anymore. You watched and listened as Jungkook calls Jin and tells him about the situation. The two of you went back to your aunt. You looked at her and watched her and Kook talk.

"It seems that auntie knows more than I do." You said. Your aunt's eyes widens and she looks at you.

"(Name), I know I'm supposed to be the one who should push Jungkookie away from this kind of life but you have to understand that...there was no option to choose from. He has to...to protect us." She said sincerely. Everything that they're saying doesn't make sense but at the same time it somehow does.

"Then..." You paused, thinking if you should break what you promised to Se Gi. "...then why is it that Se Gi said a different thing. He said Jungkook's been causing trouble, since I left."

They froze. Jungkook's jaw visibly clenched and his brows furrowed. Your aunt gasped.

"It's true that they got in trouble a lot of times, yes. But it was...it all started with my son. I...You could say it was my son's fault that he got in this situation, dear."

Instead of clearing your head from worries and questions, what your aunt said just added to it.

"Hyung's here." The sound of the car's horn was heard from outside your house.  "Let's go." You gingerly followed Jungkook outside to see a black Lamborghini with one of its windows rolled down to reveal a seemingly distraught Jin. Jungkook opened the trunk of the car and put your bags inside.

"Get in now, noona. I'll see you tomorrow." He says and opens the car door to the passenger seat next to Jin. Although you were still hesitating, you got inside the car and Jin started to drive away. You watched Jungkook pull a gun from his jacket and stayed outside your house. You frowned, the feeling of uneasiness and danger filled your chest.

'Something bad is going to happen.' You thought. 'A fight? God, I still can't believe they're involved in the, what? Mafia? What's going to happen then?' You shook your head, getting rid of the thoughts you didn't wanna see.

"(Name)..." Jin called to you. Since the scene at the airport, you haven't really had the chance to savor the fact that you finally saw your boyfriend personally again. After the first 2 months in your relationship, he has to go back to Korea. It would be a lie if you say that you weren't scared when he left. You weren't used to a long distance relationship, you told yourself a long time ago that you can never have that kind of relationship. But he made it possible.

~ "Jin...I--I don't know...I just.."

"Are you scared?" He asked, voice so soft that you felt like crying already.

"Yes..." Your reply sounded like a whisper, a helpless whisper. Your hands played with the hem of the jacket you asked from Jin, so you can still remember his scent.

"(Name)," He let go of the bag he's holding to hold your hands and with a smile, he says,"We'll be fine. I promise. We'll make it possible." He lifted a hand to caress your cheeks as you started to tear up.

"Hug me again? I'll miss cuddling with you." You requested, to which he gladly complied. You wrapped your arms around his torso tightly, deeply inhaling his scent for the last time until you see him again. Jin chuckled, playing with your hair and kissing the top of your head softly.

Letting go reluctantly, you looked up at him. He has a smile on his face but you knew it was hard for him too. So with all the courage and confidence you have left, you pulled him by the collar of his shirt, just enough not to bump your face to his, you placed a kiss on his lips. He smiles and kisses back, slipping a hand to hold you by the waist.

You both pulled away just as you heard the speakers say that the flight back to Korea will leave soon.

"You should go. Give me a call  immediately when you arrive, okay?"

"Of course, princess." ~~

"(Name)..."

You hummed in response, looking at the car window beside you and not at him. Jin noticed this and contemplated whether he should continue or not. Sighing, he decided not to, instead, he'd let you say what's on your mind. He has to hear what you have to say before he explains everything.

"What are you thinking right now?"

"...a lot. A lot of things, Jin. It hit me so hard and I still haven't gotten up." You answered. "I wanted to hear the explanation tomorrow once I've finally rested and cleared up my mind but...things that were hidden from me starts coming one by one. And it's just...I don't understand a thing, it's like I'm being pushed around because I don't know shit."

Guilt is eating Jin alive as he listened to you speak. All he wanted was to keep the happy life with you, with no worries about what could happen because of who he is. He was enjoying his time with you when Namjoon called him to go back.

"Jin, why didn't you tell me?"

"I can't."

"Why can't you?"

"...because I don't know how to. I can't tell you everything without being sure that you won't leave after finding out the truth."

You didn't reply. You were thinking of what to say.

"What truth?"

"Your cousin put Jungkook's life in danger a lot of times, (Name). And we were always there, as his friends, to save him."

This time, you looked at him when he said that.

"He challenged several people and made Jungkook face them. After losing the fight, the people your cousin challenged will fear him and do what he wants. It's usually Jimin and Taehyung who helps Jungkook get out of the fight since they go to the same school. Jungkook asked us to teach him defend himself."

Your eyes widened.

"It wasn't long before that cousin of yours made his biggest mistake. He stupidly challenged a member of a mafia from our rival group. Jungkook could handle a few highschoolers and college students. But it was the mafia. He would have been finished if the boys didn't come. This time, Jungkook didn't ask for normal lessons, he wanted to learn how to use a gun and a knife properly."

"When...when did this happen?" You asked, despite the shock, you were determined to know.

"When I went back to Korea. That's why I had to leave. I had to take care of business regarding what happened."

I finished this yesterday and I wanted to post it right away but the our wifi network is being a bitch.

Exclusive photos and long interview in Kiss & Cry--Yuzuru Hanyu: Be Myself

The open practice in Toronto, Canada at which many journalists also gathered this year. Hanyu, speaking about his new programmes, had a cheerful and calm expression. Half a year after his great feat of defending his Olympic title, what are the things he thinks of?

The FS which is a return to his own origins

The open practice which took place at the end of August at the Cricket Club in Toronto. On the first day, the music that played during his practice run through was Hungarian violinist Edvin Marton’s Art on Ice. Hanyu gave the programme set to the musical arrangement the name Origin. “It was a piece of music that made me begin to be engrossed in skating. I want to skate this programme while feeling the enjoyment of skating, the beginning of my skating life.”

Although Art on Ice is a piece of music that has been used by many skaters to date, among them the best known is probably the legendary programme Tribute to Nijinsky in the 2003-2004 season by Evgeni Plushenko, whom Hanyu loves and respects. 

“There is a very strong impression that Plushenko-san had skated to this piece of music. As it is one of his signature programmes, I had some slight feelings like not measuring up to it. During Continues~with Wings~ (13-15 April), I conveyed to Plushenko-san “Allow me to use this song”, and I received the words “Do your best” from him. The wonderful programme that Tribute to Nijinsky is, is also something that is extremely important to me. Therefore, I think it would be wonderful if I am able to complete Origin as my own programme which differs from that (Tribute to Nijinsky).”

The SP which is another of his origins

His SP is to Argentine pianist Raul di Blasio’s Otoñal. Likewise, it is music which had been used by a skater Hanyu admires--Johnny Weir’s FS for the 2004-2006 seasons had been to this piece. 

“The arm positions during spins, the softness of expressions, the way to pick up nuances and move to music, landing positions and so on, it was the music of the programme that led me to perform with attention to each of these details.”

Were there other possible choices he considered? 

“No. (He said this decisively). It was a situation in which I made an almost instantaneous decision. I started thinking about various things the instance it was decided I was unable to compete at the World Championships in March, and I had already made up my mind before Continues~with Wings~. To skate to my favourite pieces of music. Just that, after I made the decision, I thought “I must seek permission from both of them” (laughs). Also, as the reason for choosing this programme was just my feelings that “Because I like it I want to do it”, I considered with my whole being as to what meaning these two programmes hold, and how I can complete them as my own programmes while also respecting (the skaters and their programmes).”

The ice show and 24H TV programme that reflected his “roots”

At the ice show he personally produced for the first time, Continues~, skaters who had connections with Hanyu were gathered. 

“I think Continues~ was a show that reflected my “roots”. As there was the injury to my right ankle, although I was not able to show a proper skate, I really feel that with the performances of the great skaters who agreed to grace the show, it became a wonderful show. Also, I respect them and they also gave me their respect. The receiving and acceptance of those thoughts and feelings have become one of the driving forces for me to continue to work hard from this point onward.”

The “roots” that were reflected in the ice show. Are these the same as the “origins” of his new programmes?

“For me “origins” and “roots” are slightly different, roots have the image akin to  “scenes of my own heart, my own thoughts”. Receiving various influences from different people, leading to the me that is here right now, that is something I feel very much recently...I cannot be cognizant of the existence known as myself without the gaze of other people. It was a show that made me feel such things and view the existence known as myself objectively.”

About 4 months after that, for the TV programme 24H TV 41 Love Saves the World~Person Who Changes Lives~ which was broadcast in August, he revisited the sewing classroom in Narahamachi, Fukushima, which he had visited 3 years ago, to report back on winning the Olympic gold medal.

“If I was not personally in the position of a victim of the Great East Japan Earthquake, perhaps they would not be able to draw close to me from their hearts. And, perhaps they would not watch my performances with their hearts drawn to my performances to this degree. Therefore, from now on also I must properly accept that I was affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Sendai, Miyagi and live on properly. Although the experience of the earthquake and tsunami was really painful, precisely because I experienced that, I want to do the things I can do, this is what I thought anew.”

Also in the same TV programme, he collaborated with Disney on Ice at the place of his starting point, Ice Rink Sendai, where he had begun skating at the age of four.

“Although it would have been nice if I could have also performed together with Pooh-san, but even Pooh-san has circumstances...(wry smile) It seems that without the forest Pooh-san will not come.(laughs)”

Becoming greedy and enjoying life more

On changes to his state of mind after the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Hanyu describes it as such:

“Until now there has been tremendous pressure to “do my own skating”, “meet expectations”, “produce results”...But right now all that is disappearing, from now on perhaps it is alright to skate for myself, this is what I am thinking. The reason I began skating was because it was enjoyable. Together with this emotion, looking back at the difficult path I have walked until now, perhaps it can be described as repaying myself or they have become the emotion of wanting to do something that would be like a personal reward for myself.”

After the Olympics, he had also declared his intention to challenge the 4A.

“Within myself there is the desire of wanting to jump it this season. When I was in the lower grades of elementary school, I would spend 45 minutes of 1 hour practice sessions on practicing the axel. (laughs) The sense of achievement when I landed the axel is one of the key reasons I came to love skating.” 

Then, are there perhaps other things he wants to do outside of skating?

“...From now on I think I will be more greedy and I will go and do various things. Before the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, I cut away various things, my consideration was to make everything work for the sake of success at the Olympics. Right now my mindset is becoming slightly different from that time. Of course even from now on before competitions, or in order to land the 4A I think there will be various things I will cut away, but now I think I want to properly receive this happiness, and in addition to that also complete my own happiness.”

In specific terms how does the happiness he pictures look like?

“Playing video games, listening to music...and also earphones. (laughs) Right now I am playing games such as Fire Emblem, and Power Pros. I also want to play Super Smash Bros. ...and, though this has become about personal matters (laughs), I think it would be wonderful if I can accept completely the thoughts of many different people in the form of their “congratulations” and connect it to my own happiness.”

Hanyu who smiled while describing the leisure activities that young men of his generation enjoy as a matter of course as something that is “greedy”. With consecutive Olympic victories, for him who has become the best skater in the world in both name and fact, this time he will skate “for himself” to the music of his favourite skaters.

Based off of the song Location by Khalid, which has been stuck in my head for four consecutive days now.

You knew you had too much pride for your own good.

How could you not when after all this time and pain you couldn't bring yourself to apologize to him.

You couldn't even bring yourself to speak to him.

Spite was a dangerous weapon; a weapon which neither you nor Keith knew how to weild. A weapon which has wounded both of you in your shared pathetic attempts to get one over on each other.

You swore to yourself to never see him again; to never think about him again.

He wasn't just dead to you, he never existed. At least that was your intention, though the follow through was beyond unsuccessful. Old photos sat in what was once a sock drawer, face down. You couldn't bring yourself to get rid of them. It felt like too strong of a move, though you also couldn't bring yourself to see those photos of him again, and therefore left the few pairs of socks that were in there abandoned as well. You'd just accepted your heartbreak, bottled all of the resulting emotions inside of you, and forced yourself to carry on in his absence.

Shiro calling you, begging you for a favor, asking for your address, and soon thereafter, seeing him in person again really ruined the false sense of composure you've build up for yourself over the years.

He wasn't nearly as dead as everyone had presumed him to be. You told him this upon opening the door, and he laughed. Shiro's laugh was a rare gem you'd forgotten the beauty of in the years since his disappearance. And in addition to hearing his laugh again, you heard a breathy chuckle from behind him, so soft you had almost missed it

Behind him was a handful of others, and among them was the same boy you had worked for years to forget about. And seeing that same black mullet and those same lilac eyes again completely disrupted your intention of forgetting his existence. After a year long, uphill battle with your own guilt and hatred on both ends, the last thing you expected was him at your doorstep again.

His robotic arm wasn't functioning properly, he explained to you. He knew you were one hell of an engineer, and hoped you would be willing to try fixing it. He added that he knew this was probably tech that you'd never seen before, quite sheepishly at that, and that he doesn't know who else to turn to to fix it. You were aware Shiro knew about the falling out between you and his brother. Maybe that was why he was acting so unlike himself. Regardless of it all, you invited he and his small party into your home.

Let's focus on communication.

As you looked over them mechanics behind Shiro's metal prosthetic, you could practically feel both his and Keith's eyes burning holes into your flesh. As you made notes on all the individual motor systems within the limb, you spoke to Shiro in Japanese.

"Does he still hate me?" You asked. He chuckled softly. It was a rather sad chuckle, however, and you could feel yourself tense the second you heard it.

"No." He answered simply. You exhaled sharply in relief. "He never hated you. He still cares about you so much, (Y/N)."

"He does?"

"He does." He ran his free hand through his hair, watching with nervous eyes as you began your attempt to return function to his arm. He continued to converse with you about Keith, maybe because it was information he'd known about for a long time, and maybe just because of the possibility that you couldn't fix it, and he might have to remove his arm completely. "Keith wants to fix things. He wants to make things better with you. He feels just as bad as you do." You looked up at him with eyes of equal parts wonder and disbelief. He nodded to assure his statement. "You know him. You know he's... Bad with his own emotions. He wants to have you back as a friend at least, he just doesn't know how. He's afraid to reach out."

I just need a time and place to come through.

"Keith," You called to him. A part of you just wanted to leave things done with and finally get over him, but a stronger part of you knew you had to make ammends before the chance disappeared. He turned in partial alarm at the sound of you calling his name. You gestured for him to come closer, which he hesitantly did. You spoke at the same time,

"(Y/N),-"

"Keith,-"

"I- I'm- you go first." He stammered. He was nervous. Apprehensive. And he could tell you were just as well. You sighed heavily.

"Keith, I- I'm sorry. I was stupid and I said and did shit that I didn't mean, a- and I let my pride get the better of me. Can we talk about this? Like, meet up somewhere and actually talk about this?"

He nodded. He didn't say much beyond his contact information and a suggested date and time, but there wasn't much that needed to be said. At least not then. Not until he came back and you both felt ready to talk things out. It was a long awaited sense of closure you both needed.

He returned 3 days later, on the front that you were just meeting to chat over a cup of coffee at your place.

Keith hated coffee, but even now, he would still do anything to be in your presence. Even if it meant drinking disgusting filtered bean water...

You both knew it had to be said eventually, but both of you chose to remain silent just a bit longer, taking in all the moment had to offer, and being around each other again in such a casual setting. A moment of silence very rapidly turned into ten minutes, and you knew that you would have to be the one to start.

At times I wonder why I fool with you,

But this is new to me, this is new to you.

"I'm sorry..." You sighed, relieved that you managed to get that off your chest.

"I'm sorry too," He mumbled. "I guess I was just so angry, and so hurt that I thought what I did was justified. I figured since you left me without a word like that, it was only fair for me to do the same to you." You open your mouth to speak, but he continued his rambling before you had the chance. "But it wasn't fair. It wasn't fair when you did it. I was so hurt when you did it. It made me so angry. I felt like I wasn't even worth a goodbye," You could see Keith's hands shaking around the mug. A sign you've picked up over the years that he was struggling to keep bottling his emotions. "A- and when you came back, I was so upset that you never told me why you left, or where you went. And it took me so long to forgive you."

Initially, I didn't wanna fall for you,

Gather my attention it was all for you, so don't take advantage, don't leave my heart damaged.

"I- I-" You took a deep breath, trying to organize your thoughts. "I understand. I never meant to do what your mom did to you, and I never meant to leave you all alone again. I know you have a hard time letting people in, and I know you're afraid of being alone again... And I feel awful for being a part of that reason." Your eyes dropped to the mug in your hands, staring at every little detail it had to offer as a means to avoid eye contact.

"It's not just you..." He muttered. Your eyes darted back up, brows knit in confusion.

"Huh?"

"It wasn't just you. I'm just as much to blame"

"No, Keith, I-"

"Wait, hold on. This is important, let me finish." You nodded, keeping silent and allowing him to continue. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get aggressive." He added quickly. You shook your head in response, a quiet gesture to let him know he was never being aggressive. "(Y/N), you can't expect me to pretend that I don't know I didn't hurt you just as well." God, he sounded like Shiro. Wherever he's been for all this time, you can tell Shiro was very much with him. You hope he made sure Keith was okay during all that time. "I thought I was justified," He paused to collect his thoughts. He let out the breath he didn't even know he was holding before he carried on. "That it was only fair for me to leave you without a word because you did the same thing. But it wasn't fair. It never was fair, and you'd think that knowing how much it hurts I wouldn't have done it, but I did."

"You did," You affirmed. "And it's been a year." You paused to take a sip of your now cold coffee, just to give your hands something to do. "But now what? What good is avoiding each other doing for us?"

"It's been three years for me."

"What?"

"While I was gone, there was- we were in this place- this part of space- where time moved faster. So it's felt like three years for me." He confessed. You let out a low chuckle, which he responded to with a confused look.

"That's where you've been all this time? Outer space?"

"Well, yeah, I-"

"And three years has passed for you?" You asked curiously. He nodded. "No wonder you look so different." His eyebrows furrowed more, eliciting another low chuckle from you. "It's a good different. You look so much older, so much more mature. I didn't know it was possible for you to be any more handsome than you already were, but look at you now." You noticed the tips of his ears flush at your comment and smirked.

Pushing yourself off the chair, you opened your arms for Keith to hug you. Though unlike usual, he didn't hesitate, and accepted your affections as if the rift between the two of you was never there.

To understand that things go a little bit better when you plan it...

"Can we just... Move on from this and be friends again?" He mumbled into your shoulder. You nodded into his.

"I'd like to give that a shot if you're willing to."

I don't wanna fall in love off of subtweets, so, let's get personal.

I've got a lot of cool spots that we can go to.

Being around Keith again was natural.

Almost like he was never gone in the first place.

Soon enough, both of your mistakes were so long forgotten that it was almost as if they never even mattered.

Tell me what's the move and I've got you,

Repairing the relationship between the two of you was inevitable, it seemed. It felt as though the universe wanted you to. It needed to bring you back together.

Soon enough, rumors began floating between the members of his team, who you quickly learned called themselves the Paladins, and made their way down the grapevine to either you or Keith. Rumors about the way you felt for each other. Rumors that very quickly came to consume both of you, desperately listening in and trying to work out whether your feelings were returned from the bits and pieces Lance would tell you.

I'm only acting like this 'cause I like you.

Out of nowhere, seemingly, Keith had enough of this. If it mattered that much to either of you, you'd both be able to say it in person.

He invited you to a spot in El Paso, some time just after midnight. He assured you as he picked you up that it was to assure nobody else was there to bother the two of you.

A short climb in the dark up a hill and you saw why he wanted to bring you here in the first place. From the minute the twinkling lights of the city hit your eyes, you were in love with this place. At the particular spot he took you to, you could easily look over both Juarez and El Paso, and the view was so beautiful that it took your breath away.

"I know it's late, but it can get kind of busy around here." He explained. "I didn't want you to have to deal with a crowd since you've never been here before."

"It's so pretty..." You gasped, having a seat on the ground as close to the railing as you could get. You pat the ground next to you, gesturing for him to have a seat next to you. He did, and wrapped a protective arm around your waist, just in case you slip under the railing.

Yeah, that's all. Just in case.

You refused to see it that way, and placed your head over his shoulder as you looked over the vast expanse of the city of Juarez, and back over to the equally vast expanse of El Paso. "Thank you for bringing me here."

Just give me the vibe to slide, then,

"Of course..." He responded, wrapping his other arm around your form, which was now leaning on him so much you were all but on top of him. He didn't mind though. In fact, he enjoyed the feeling.

A comfortable silence fell over you. You allowed yourself to take in the moment. The warm summer breeze, the Crescent moon directly overhead, the faint white speckles of starlight, the warm amber glow of the streetlights against the backdrop of the midnight sky, the material of Keith's shirt against your skin, and the feeling of the cool skin of his arms protectively wrapped around you, the way his chest rose up and down with his breath, and the way you could faintly hear his heartbeat thrumming in his chest if you listened closely enough. You allowed yourself to take it all in, and marveled at just how beautiful life could be sometimes.

Oh, I might make you mine by the night's end.

"(Y/N)," he mumbled. His eyes flickered down from the stars to look at you.

"Mhm?"

"I'm uh, I-" He stammered, trying to work out the best way to phrase his words, but somehow you knew where this was going. You just seemed to sense what he wanted to say. "(Y/N), I-" You cut him off by pressing your lips to his, wrapping your arms around his neck once you felt him return the kiss. When you broke apart, your arms remained around his neck, and his around your waist. Your foreheads touched, and you both were grinning, revelling in the physical closeness between the two of you.

"Keith,"

"Yeah?" He panted. You giggled, pressing your lips to his again, smiling into the kiss when you felt one of his gloved hands move up to cup your jaw, tracing his thumb absentmindedly across your cheekbone. A content hum escaped his throat when you deepened the kiss, leaning back into your touch once he felt your fingers carding through his hair. A soft whine emitted from his throat when you finally broke away to catch your breath. He paused for a moment, taking in all the moment had to offer. The way your skin glowed in the amber glow of the night, how good you looked with your lips glossy and slightly swollen from him kissing you so hard, the way the lights seemed to catch your eyes just right, and the nice warm feeling of you pressed so closely to him. In that moment he decided that he still loved you. He's lived without you in his life for far longer than he ever wanted, and he couldn't bear it any longer.

He needed you.

Once you finally caught your breath, you finally went to say what you had intended to this entire night. The same exact wirds he intended to say to you.

And they left your lips at the same time.

"I love you."

I know I'm way late to ride the Voltron hype train, and I just started season 3, but it's really good and I wanted to write this. This also isn't me saying I'm going to write for Voltron, because I probably won't anymore, but let me have my fun.

Don’t Mess Up My Tempo Lyric Analysis: Gravity, With You, & Smile On My Face

Hey everyone! Here’s my long overdue lyric analysis on DMUMT! As you can see from the title, there’s only three songs I found relevant (Gravity and With You, as Chanyeol wrote them, and Smile On My Face for it’s familiar lyrics), which isn’t a lot, but I think With You made up an entire album of lyrics in itself! Let’s get right into it.

1. Gravity

I’m starting with Gravity since it’s the first song in the tracklist to talk about. Chanyeol only wrote this partially, but I’m more interested in a few particular lyrics that Chanyeol and Baekhyun sing than the whole song. This song, like many on the album, are quite sad lyrically, despite their upbeat tempo. 

I mentioned in my last lyric analysis that I thought it seemed more like communication between Baekhyun and Chanyeol than both singing to one person, like in Universe, perhaps taken from a past time since they’re obviously in a great place right now.

[BAEKHYUN] I'm still waiting for you, aren't I? My heart will always draw you in like gravity

[CHANYEOL] The bet I placed on you failed in the end A race I was running on my own Honey look at me now All that comes back is an echo without an answer Swirling around my heart You left me behind you, falling apart And I'm scared I'll be left to drift in a universe without you

[BAEKHYUN] If it's for you, I have the strength to move anything You know that

Perhaps it’s because Chanyeol’s lines and Baekhyun’s last lines are unique in the song, rather than repeated lyrics by many members, but this struck me as more of a conversation than all the members singing about someone. There’s no other two members lines that come off like this to me, hence I added it.

In Chanyeol’s verse, he not only talks about his regrets, but, as we can see in the last line, his insecurities.

And then Baekhyun says:

“If it's for you, I have the strength to move anything You know that”

The saddest part of these lyrics is they sound as though it’s more separate thoughts when they’re apart rather than a real conversation, but I thought they seemed to match, Chanyeol’s insecurities, and Baekhyun’s reassurance.

This also reminds me a lot of Universe, and not just because of Chanyeol’s use of the word.

[CHANYEOL] We warmly held each other With happy laughter

I’ve already talked about these lyrics, in another analysis, but the Gravity lyrics just reminded me of them in the way they sound, separate but about each other, separate from the rest of the lyrics sung by the other members. There also seemed a realness in the lyrics I extracted from Gravity that I didn’t feel in the other lyrics. That might just be my bias though.

Also like Universe, Baekhyun ends the song with two open lines:

“I'm still waiting for you, aren't I? My heart will always draw you in like gravity”

2. Smile On My Face

In order to save the best for last, I’m giving a quick mention to this song after I looked through them and found another part rather familiar. I don’t know if Chanyeol had any part in this song, but the sort of dreamy sound it has reminded me strongly of With You, and the lyrical depth is on another level to me like so many of Chanyeol’s songs compared to other songs on the album. The lyrics I’m talking about are Baekhyun’s lyrics in the song, which strongly remind me of that song I did an analysis on a while ago, Please, Don’t Look So Sad, that they performed back in 2014 with some exceptional emotion.

[BAEKHYUN] You pass by just like the wind you disappear naturally

[BAEKHYUN] I stood there blankly for a long time I weakly look at you who is far I also don't understand why I'm like this just like the day I let you go

[BAEKHYUN] I did it all with a smile on my face the traces has disappeared in my mind What if they return back to me I'll just smile and send them back

[CHEN/BAEKHYUN] I did it all with a smile on my face It doesn't have to hurt anyone I don't grab on to you who is getting far I want to send you off with a smile With a smile on my face

Although there isn’t much actual similarity, it almost sounded like a heart-wrenching continuation of Please, Don’t Look So Sad, even though they obviously moved on from that time in their life.

[CHANYEOL] When I saw your face That'd become a little leaner And as I was walking the streets in the rain My heart ached How much more should I have to ache Until our little wish comes true?

[BAEKHYUN] Please don't pull a sad face like that 'Cause I'll never give (you) up.

To be completely honest, this doesn’t really have much backing it up in the end, but I just thought that it was interesting.

3. With You

What don’t I have to say about this song? Ultimately, I think it’s the most beautiful song Chanyeol has ever written, both in sound and lyrically. From the very first notes of the song, it has a very dream-like sound that immediately sets you into the mood of the lyrics.

[SUHO] If you look at those stars that are bright It's just like looking at you You resemble everything that shines

Already there’s that light/starlight reference - it’s threaded through the whole song.

[BAEKHYUN] When the night sky thickens The whole world is tinted with light You naturally take my hand Suddenly it's getting tainted to me

These were some of the most interesting lyrics to me, as I mentioned before in my shorter analysis on this. I’ll talk about it again, to make the analysis more complete.

Up until this point, whoever Chanyeol has been writing about has been referenced to as the sky or stars. In this song, he says “when the night sky thickens and the whole world is tinted with light”, referencing to a sunset, for the first time. And while the sunny skies are beautiful, as are stars, the incredible variety of different kinds of beauty a sunset presents is a whole other level of beauty that he has never mentioned before. It also shows the depth of whoever he is singing about, and how beautiful he thinks they are no matter what shade they are at the moment.

This other thread is interesting to me because it takes quite a while for couples to start resembling each other. In this verse, he’s saying they physically look alike, not just in terms of speech or humor as Baekhyun described it as. Therefore he’s writing about someone he’s been with for a very long time.

[BAEKHYUN] Both eyes are light shining As bright as me I think it's shining

[KYUNGSOO/CHEN] Sometimes I see you when you see me

[CHANYEOL] Yeah I am looking at you everyday You are watching [me] From a mirror-like expression to a tone I feel my appearance*

“Sometimes I see you when you see me” is another reference to reflection, as well as “from a mirror-like expression to a tone I feel my appearance”, which is a line I especially like from this song.

[BAEKHYUN] Look at the deeper night and I stop for a moment

[KYUNGSOO] I want to keep it in my eyes for me

Here it changes to “deeper night” from “the night sky thickens”, showing the falling of night. Rather than sunset, the time and beauty of his S/O is shifting into the dark night.

[SUHO/CHANYEOL] Then I think sometimes resemblance look and come out with me Everything is trivial The little things all resemble each other

[ALL/BAEKHYUN] Promise me now when all the light disappears It's always like tonight Let me shine forever

[CHANYEOL] Love you

I think Chanyeol’s last line is a very sweet and personal touch. Ending the song like this, while Baekhyun’s still singing, is very important. It means this entire song is definitely about someone he loves, even though there has been no pronoun or definitive line that says it isn’t just someone he’s close to. So in case there was any doubt, it’s very definitely for someone that he loves that way. In case you’re wondering “How do we know this is about Baekhyun?” I’ll explain.

First of all, we know Chanyeol wrote this song. As far as I know, from beginning to end. It contains many of the references I’ve mentioned in past analysis, so he’s obviously talking about the same person. On top of this, Chanyeol was asked years ago what colour he associated with Baekhyun and he said “SKY”. From then, every sky reference, be it pictures (Chanyeol said all his photos were of ‘the sky’) or lyrics, it’s been generally assumed it’s about Baekhyun. To have an entire song about the sky and stars, especially with how Chanyeol has been into stargazing lately, and no doubt gave him inspiration. I also have no doubts he hasn’t at least greatly shared his latest interest with Baekhyun, which would add meaning to Baekhyun.

Besides this, it’s Baekhyun’s favourite song on the album and also ‘his’ song, in terms of teasers. When describing it, Baekhyun said it was a song about two lovers becoming similar to each other and seeing the light. He also said when he first heard the song, it was like the light of the sun in the morning. On top of this, during the 181102 showcase, he made several references towards the sky and stars, suggesting he’s just as much in on the metaphors as Chanyeol is.

And that’s it! Like I said, considering how long the album is, it doesn’t seem like a lot, but With You really makes up for that, in my opinion. For everyone, there’s something that really solidifies their relationship to them, and for me it was this song. It’s so obvious who it’s about, both lyrically and how they act and talk about the song, and it’s very obvious what the song means towards that person. It’s a love song at it’s finest, and yet much deeper than most. It has a whole level of intimacy between them that we’re seeing for the first time, a more intense look into how Chanyeol really feels, rather than a fluttering heart or a happy mood. Eazy Peazy- The Chills’ Martin Phillipps speaks! (interview by Jeremy Grites)

So, thanks to our esteemed editor Tim Hinely, I have been a fan of the Chills since I was just a lad way back in 1988 in southern NJ. Flash forward 31 years to February 2019, and I have the good fortune of finding myself sitting on a couch in the backstage of the Trocadero Theatre in Philly with none other than Martin Phillipps. It's been 30 years since the Chills have played Philadelphia and will be my first time seeing them in person - I was underage on the last tour. After meeting the other members of the band and the road crew (all of whom were absolute sweethearts), Martin and I sit down for a few minutes before their dinner.  In 25 years of doing interviews and articles for Tim/Dagger I don't think I've ever met anyone more gracious, well spoken and thoughtful as Martin and his mates. It was at once a thrill, a pleasure and a lesson in how a professional musician and lifelong artist conducts oneself. I was nervous as hell.  Enjoy...

The current lineup

JEREMY GRITES: So, with the new Lp, label and the recent increase in touring - it seems like a new era for the band. Does it feel different and if so, in what way?

MARTIN PHILLIPPS: Well actually James and Todd have been with me 20 years and Erica for 15 years, Olie 18 years - so the band has been together and functional for years, we just couldn't financially afford to tour overseas. It wasn't until we played at the 50th birthday party of a millionaire art dealer who couldn't believe that no one was working with us and he got the ball rolling.  The "Somewhere Beautiful Live" LP which was actually recorded AT that party and we didn't plan on releasing it but we did. Then that lead to the "Molten Gold" single and "Pink Frost 13" - we were sort of testing the waters as a band and then everything got handed to Fire records and ever since then we've sort of been on a roll. I've been writing material constantly - even through my health problems when I was feeling a bit sick and exhausted all of the time. One thing that has changed is not sort of doing things on a 4 track recorder anymore. Generally we are doing like decent studio recording to sort of 'realize the vision' so to speak. And I think we've proved that with the last two albums.  JG: Oh absolutely. The fidelity, the layers - those records are awesome. It's probably sacrilegious for a Chills fan to say, but I think they are turning into my favorites of your catalogue.  MP: Oh that's good! Yes, especially with the new record - I think it's brought us up to a competitive level now if you know what I mean. It really shows what we're capable of and is a sort of jumping off point for us to really start exploring what the Chills can be. I think these last two albums were sort of a bridge to our past and getting the band up to highly functional level, like a machine and particularly with "snowbound" we work really well together.  JG: Yeah, it really shows. I mean right out of the gate with "bad sugar" - it's just a perfect pop song, perfectly executed.  MP: Nearly didn't make the record!

JG: What!? How?? MP: Well it was one that I didn't even want to bring to the band because I thought it was TOO poppy, you know? But then we started playing it and it really turned into something - same with "complex" - the band only heard a rough home demo of that song about a week before we did it in the studio. So that was very much assembled in the studio together, and turned out to be one of the very interesting tracks on the album.  JG: Right. And now the record is out and this US tour has just begun - do you like the touring and traveling?  I know how difficult it can be.  MP: I've really been enjoying this, especially now because we're getting into a pattern, we've been well received, we're playing well and we've always gotten the warmest responses from American audiences so that's a great feeling. I was bit nervous when we started doing gigs in Europe because I hadn't sung even 3 nights consecutively in many years so I wasn't sure how my voice would stand up. So we stagger our gigs a bit now and I'm careful about that. You know "heavenly pop hit" is top of my range and can really destroy my voice for a few days if I'm not careful. More importantly though, I was going back to Europe not knowing how I was confront all of my old wonderful memories from my 20's and the first wave of interest in the Chills.  But Erica our multi-instrumentalist said something very wise to me - she said " don't worry about old memories, create new memories." And she was right. Plus, everything turned out to be so different anyway - I mean the last time we played Berlin there was a wall in it! (Laughter and talking about how cool East Berlin is now...). Yeah but even London is different - the Channel tunnel wasn't there when we were there last, so everything is very different.  JG: and is there more touring after this stint in the US or back home for a bit? MP: No we go straight home after this for a bit. As you'll see Erica is about to have a baby so... JG: Wow she's a trooper! MP: Yes she is indeed.  Part of the reason for doing this tour is to end at SXSW and talk to some international booking agents about taking the Chills to regular festivals and going out for longer runs that are more financially do-able. That is definitely the way forward. We're back in business so to speak you know and there's a new documentary film being made about us that's going to premiere at SXSW while we are there which is lucky.

JG: So even thought the new record just came out, you're already thinking ahead... MP: Oh yeah - I think I already have about 23 songs or concepts for songs, plus a few older things that were never done that I think are worth doing. JG: Wow, that's a lot! MP: And that's just starting to tap into what I really want to do. The main difference with the next one is I'm going to heavily demo everything before into getting studio.  The last 2 records I was not feeling well and it was very hard to concentrate and even now, we're still adjusting the songs as we go. It started to be that way after I got my first porta studio, like post "Brave Words," where I did all my demos for "Submarine Bells," and "Soft Bomb."  JG: Ah yes, I loved each of my porta studios! MP: Yeah, you sort of had to become a master of bouncing tracks (laughter) and I got really good at it.  JG: Oh for sure. We used to do that too - you really had to plan it out in order to make the most of what little space you had.  MP: Yes definitely

And we're really interested to see what the impact of this movie will be. You know it's a feature length film that is both about the entire history of the band, but also about my health struggles and ups & downs and also my complete eccentricities (laughter) and as a collectors of weird things and maker of strange artworks.  JG: That was another thing I wanted to ask you about actually - your artwork and what's been happening with that lately? MP: I really stopped for a long time, mostly because there was no outlet for it. In the beginning I did nearly all of the art for the record covers etc - that was always part of the whole process. But then later when we're on Warner Brothers there was less to do because things needed to be done quickly, unlike Flying Nun where this could be held up for months.  JG: Yeah I can't imagine the major label scenario.  MP: It's amazing to watch how that machine works. It's fantastic. That’s another interesting thing about the documentary actually is that in going through all of this old stuff we found a lot of the original artwork (through Otago museum having a collection of Martin's works and history of the Chills). Yeah we found the "Rolling Moon" cover as well as the original, unused cover. They found the actual construction that was in pieces and spent 4 months repairing it and its pristine again.  JG: wow, amazing! MP: Yeah and all of this stuff is going to be in the movie I think, although I haven't seen the final edit yet.

JG: Yes I'll be interested to see the old footage and all of the stuff about the old days especially - that was one hell of a graduating class for Flying Nun back then.  MP: yeah back then mostly everyone in all of those bands came from 1 of 3 high schools, everybody knew each other and everybody had seen Chris Knox. You know you used to go see cover bands and stuff, but then we all saw the Sex Pistols on tv and saw Chris Knox who is still one of the most formidable performers I've ever seen - especially when he had the Punks of Anger - it was terrifying and then the Enemy, who were more powerful than Toy Love - who were the people's favorites. They were sort of THE band of the time and the whole Flying Nun community has either played with Toy Love or been to see them and it all came together very quickly. Plus there had already been a few other indie labels but Flying Nun was very lucky to pick bands like the Clean and suddenly - zoom.  JG: Yeah we were fortunate here that we had the Philly Record Exchange which was one of the only places you could find those records because of people Tom Lax and Jacy Webster. We would ride the bus up from Atlantic City to go there just to buy NZ records - like this one: my "Wet Blanket 45" still with the record change sticker on it. (Presents 45 and nerdish-ly asks for autograph) MP: Wow, great! You don't see that one very often.  JG: Another thing I was wondering about was what you've been listening to lately and are there any new NZ bands that you are sort of bringing along or appreciating these days? MP: I'm not as in touch as I really should be. But a band I haven't seen yet but have heard are called Soaked Oats - they're part of a whole scene of bands that are coming up, which seems to happen every 7 or 8 years so. I think they just started out for fun but they've become quite big now and I think you'll start to hear about them - full on sort of power pop, very strong band. So that's one to watch out for. I'm also a big fan of Aldous Harding. I did some solo support gigs with her and she's obviously really going places. She's an extremely courageous artist. It's different in the van now because it's sort of 'headphone world' and everyone has their own soundtrack.  JG: Yeah not like the old days when everyone would get their turn to pick a cassette to listen to and the whole van was stuck with it!  MP: (laughing) Yes, exactly! but out our manager Fiona has some really good choices so it's been fun. It goes from 70's / 80's post punk to girl groups, and then classic like Bowie. I couldn't believe - we've been eating in that supermarket... JG: whole foods?  MP: yeah that's it. The other day we were in one and they were playing the Seeds! (Laughter). And then all this 60's garage stuff.  JG: Man they must have a cool manager, haha MP: yeah must be.  JG: SO what was the first stuff that you really got into? Like, what was your first record you can remember buying or a band that made you want a guitar etc?? MP: the first stuff that made me realize that I was outsider and a little different was probably the Sweet. Everyone always talks about Slade, but I never heard Slade for years! Gary Glitter too, although we're not supposed to talk about Gary Glitter anymore (laughs). But that sort of stuff very quickly lead me to discovering David Bowie so I think probably the first proper album I bought was "Pinups."  I asked my misinformed older sister which was the best Bowie album to get. She should of told me "Ziggy Stardust," but she told me about the one that was currently the latest. Haha. For years I didn't even know they were covers because I didn't think to look at the label to see who wrote them.  JG: Yeah you're like 'wow this Bowie guy writes a lot of hits!' (Laughing) MP: Yeah, and they're all so different from each other!  JG: Indeed!  Well I believe I have used my allotted time with you sir. Thank you so much and break a leg tonight.  MP: Cheers. You're staying for the show right? JG: Of course!  Wouldn't miss it for anything.

Today I want to talk to you about what happened four days ago, four days ago at night I had a horrible mental breakdown and I decided to write what was happening to me at that moment, I tried to describe a little bit my situation, I was trying to make a script for a podcast.

I think it's the second time I do that I write an episode but I don't translate it or record it, it's just there, I haven't opened it and I don't plan to, I consider this podcast as my therapy since it's cheaper than getting a therapist, the thing with my situation is that I got tired of talking about my situation, just like I got tired of talking about my accent, so I think I'm ready to ignore my situation and pretend I'm living my best life until it comes true.

So from now on I guess I'm going to stop telling my personal tragedies or hinting at them.

Leaving that aside, this is the third episode that I upload consecutively according to the calendar that is in the official blog of this podcast (link in bio) and I feel very good, I had since November that I did not upload my episodes consecutively so I'm ready to live my best life, I tried to upload consecutively in December but for some issues I could not, and in January I had planned to do it but I really did not try enough, until the end when I uploaded in early February the episode "im back? "And in fact also in the beginning of February I recorded the episode "I deserve more" but I didn't edit it in time and I didn't upload it so I lost 2 dates, but I'm trying to do it now.

I think at a certain point I have a very slight depression, but I keep trying every day, there are some days that are more difficult than others where I really want to do something, where I really want to produce an episode, edit it, I even have the idea but I don't do it, but that streak is over, I will do what I did last year to produce and produce more episodes, so if one day I feel bad I won't have any problem.

I want to take this very seriously, many times I have the idea of what I can say in an episode but I forget or some of my ideas I put them in notes but after I read them they become silly and I don't say them.

Two days ago I watched the movie "the perks of being a wallflower" and in one scene our main actor was telling his teacher "why are good people always with bad people?" and the teacher answered "because people accept the love we think we deserve" and I really wanted to do an episode talking about love and about that movie because I think it's a very good phrase, but I didn't, but I'm still commenting on that phrase right now so I did it at the same time, I don't know.

I also wanted to talk to you about family and what I consider to be a family but I never did it anyway and I have more ideas but a lot of them I forgot, in my head it was like "ohh this looks great for a podcast episode" but then I said no.

Another thing I'm trying to do is make my instagram more aesthetic, make it look pretty because every time I do an episode I search for a picture and I put the title of the episode and I try to make the picture related to what I'm going to say, also make the letters and colors look pretty, but the point is that when I put them on instagram as they are so different, all the covers look ugly and all my work goes to the trash.

I tried these 3 episodes in a row to upload pictures and things that looked like the cover colors, but all together it still looks horrible, so now I'm going to opt to use a white frame every time I upload an episode to see if that way my instagram looks pretty.

I don't want to use a filter for all the photos because I think it will ruin the essence of the cover, is that each cover means something, it marks that each episode is different from the other, and I think if I put a filter to make them look similar it's going to look horrible.

Trying to be a graphic designer is hard.

But well friends this is it for this episode, I think it was kind of boring but acceptable, I think it' s like this because I'm watching a marathon of all the twilight movies and I'll probably do an episode commenting on these movies in the future but well friends I hope you have a beautiful life if you don't have it doesn't matter you can pretend you have it with me until it comes true and see you in the next episode hugs and kisses bye bye

#1 Remembering Covid-19 life through photography

One of the main things that characterize Covid-19 is the lockdown. People’s lives turned upside down and suddenly everybody got ‘stuck’ at home. No one can live their life normally. Instead, everybody had to reinvent themselves at home. 

In the future, will we be able to remember how we felt while living in this strange time? Photography is one of the best methods to capture and keep memory of certain moments. The following example represents part of the film Smoke (Wayne Wang, 1995). Here, the characters are looking through a Photo Album in which all the photographs were taken at the same place and time, but on different days.

— You’ll never get it if you don’t slow down my friend.

— What do you mean?

— I mean you’re going too fast, you hardly even look at the pictures.

— They’re all the same.

— They’re all the same, but each one is different from every other one. You got your bright mornings and your dark ones; you got your summer light and your autumn light; you got your weekdays and your weekends; you got your people in overcoats and galoshes and you got your people in t-shirts and shorts. Sometimes the same people and sometimes different ones. Sometimes the different ones become the same, and the same ones disappear.

The Earth revolves around the sun and everyday the light from the sun hits the earth at a different angle. 

— Slow down, uh.

— That’s what I recommend. You know how it is: tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, time keeps on spitting pace.

The main goal of this Interdisciplinary Project is to create something that will keep the memory of Covid-19. Maybe this lockdown is not as monotonous and repetitive as we think. We just stopped paying attention to detail.

Idea: we could do the same as the example of that film. Each of us would choose a particular spot in the place we are doing lockdown and through several consecutive days, we would take a picture of that same spot (everyday at the same hour). After some days, we would see the differences (even if they’re small ones) of each day, and they would keep memories of our daily life through lockdown.

Examples we could photograph: our desk; kitchen table; bed; window view; neighbours’ windows; plants…

#2 A Day in a Life Video

An effective way to remember Covid-19 and show others what it felt like to be living in this pandemic, is a Day in a Life video. Every member of the group could film themselves living one day in lockdown. The content could include: making numerous cups of tea, putting masks on before going outside, learning new skills, indoor exercise, etc. Once we have footage of all the group members, we will choose the best bits from each video and edit them together. We could also have a digital clock at the top of the screen to show the hours passing in the day. This is a good idea because it will show others in future years once this pandemic has died down, exactly how we lived and experienced this moment in time. 

I found an inspiring video, Day in the Life - Camping (2015) that we could use to get ideas from.

#3 Virtual Time Capsule 

One of the project ideas we came up with was inspired by the time capsules and the artistic approach he brought to them. We could all make our own virtual time capsules or one collective one to record our experiences and time throughout Covid, and save this for future generations to reference. Looking more at the artistic nature of Warhol's works and as creatives all having done these masters throughought Covid maybe we could include artifacts from our creative processes to emphasize the inspiration more.

[FULL TRANS] YoonA - Instyle November 2017 Interview

For the Happy Ending that never ends. Just a movement from her is sufficient to claim the top article on the portal site. Expressions like ‘Every day is the peak’ are constantly stick to her articles. Becoming the magazine cover model this dream-like job, she has been doing this consecutively for several years just like it is an annual event.  The King (Queen) among the flowers, the fierce competition among the blooming flowers, the 10 years where flowers bloomed and wilted, it is not an easy feat to secure a spot. After the drama ‘The King In Love’ ended, I met up with Im YoonA who is busier than ever. She who spoke with the warmest expression in the world, looking at the bulging belly of a staff who is due to give birth in a month. The appearance of how she turned back alone, bowing her head to bid goodbye while everyone else were busy packing to leave the place after the shoot.... These seemly small and trivial yet warm gestures left by Im YoonA are able to linger in one’s memory for a long time.  Her birth flower is Lilac. In the language of flowers, lilacs symbolize first love, memories of youth. Just like first love, girl group SNSD has won more than 100 awards over the past 10 years, and she who has already rose to the top position is currently getting to know the essence of acting.  Director of the movie ‘Confidential Assignment’ Kim Sung Hoon has referred to YoonA “a gemstone, but I saw her potential”.  This potential is proven by the fact that she is nominated for best newcomer award for both Baeksang Arts Awards and Daejong Film Awards. Revolving around SNSD this glittering track, and once again meeting with this world named Im YoonA.  Im YoonA is currently walking towards an even bigger universe of hers.

Your Hanja name is 潤 (윤) for Moist/rich and 娥 (아) for pretty, your birth flower is Lilac... you probably are tired of hearing of this but I have to say, things that are related to YoonA are all pretty stuffs. This is the first time I am hearing that my birth flower is Lilac. It feels amazing because it happens to be the flowers that I like too

Gemini people are sociable. Yes. I am able to mix well with everybody.

Although it may sound a little forceful to determine one’s personality from blood type, just like the movie ‘The B-type man’ (T/l note: I think this is referring to the movie My Boyfriend is Type B), B-type women are really full of charms. Are you referring to sweet pumpkin (slang for ‘being firm and resolute’) kind of personality? (Laughs) If just looking at the blood type, majority of people’s reaction are surprised, their first impression of me is that I am A or O blood type, but once people known me deeper, they will realized that I really seem like one of B blood type. According to my mood, I am clear of what I like and dislike.  Even though I am a ‘Dap jeong nyeo’ (slang for ‘a woman who already has a decision, one who only hears the answer that she wants), but I am actually often swayed by others’ opinions.

How does it feels like living as YoonA, for at least 360 out of 365 days, I am curious of the life of a pretty person. The staffs often tell me “I want to try to be YoonA even for just a day”, whenever this happens, I will always reply with ‘what are you saying’ and laughed. It definitely feels good listening to such words, but because I am Im YoonA myself so I really doesn’t know how I should respond.

Sometimes I will receive photos and texts from friends asking, “What do you think of this style”, and few days ago I received a photo of YoonA in short hair. You are really the envy of girls of the same age. As for myself being the envy of others, even up till now I still feel it is really fascinating. I cut my hair because my hair was really damaged and I am left with no other choices.

I saw your photos from your vacation, it seem like you can’t get enough of it. Because I took a lot of photos and I am constantly arranging them. There is still a lot of it.

In the photos you are constantly holding on to camera, what are the main things you shoot? The main thing I took is scenery and my unnie took photos of me. I can’t imagine travelling by myself, every time I had a break I will go travelling with my family. This time I went to Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Salzburg. I immersed myself in the fairytale-like scenery, and recharged myself fully.

I am curious of your travel style. Compared to rushing here and there, I will first finalize the places of attraction I want to go, and then I will go for sightseeing leisurely, I will give myself appropriate time to rest. With a laidback mindset of “it’s okay if I don’t have the time for it”, I am able to strike a balance between sightseeing and resting.

Seem like your personality is really easygoing, you released ‘When The Wind Blows’ a few weeks ago which is also the first time you participated in lyrics writing.  I read everyone reactions and I also read the post written by the MV director saying “If there is an Olympic for personality, YoonA will be a gold medalist.” It was me who told my company that I want to work with director Lee Rae Kyung. I am the type that is easily influenced by the atmosphere at the set, so I thought that it is very important to be able to be connected emotionally. In order for me to grasp the feels, the director played several songs at the filming set. I kept telling the director that these songs are songs that I personally like too, I didn’t expect him to look at me in such a (favourable) way. (Laughs)

During today’s shooting, which moment did you feel connected? The outdoor shooting scene where I wore the wine red jacket, sticking my face to the wall, I think those are all close-up shoots. I do not have any thoughts like “I should have this kind of facial expression”. It is just that when I am immersed in such atmosphere, my expressions and poses came out naturally. It is a feeling that is understood without being told but the bigger credits goes to the photographer who captured such look.

You have released 62 albums, songs totaled up to 331, 1 movie, 8 drama series. These are what popped out when I searched ‘Im YoonA’ on the internet, your projects over the past 10 years. What is your first feeling when you saw these numbers? I have not done a count together with my recent works; but just by looking at the numbers my first thought is “Wow really?” “This is amazing”.

Even though they are just numbers, but these are the results you have accumulated continuously over the past 10 years. It is really incredible. It has indeed been hectic, I didn’t have excess time to enjoy a life women should enjoy, so I didn’t really have any thing I wanted to do in particular. Neither do I have the energy to do my personal stuffs. However recently I have come to realize the importance of adding value to myself, I am slowly beginning to do the things that I want to do.

In order to add value to yourself, what have you been doing? Doing nothing at home, or go exercising, to a skin clinic or a manicure shop. Because I have got by like this, I am too used to busy lifestyle so I wasn’t able to get used to having a break. When you give me time to rest, I do not know what I should do neither do I know how I should rest. I felt that I should do constructive things. To me, resting is a matter that I need practice; I am still working hard on it.

Perhaps it is because of this, you look even more relaxed and natural now. Ahh that’s great.

Staff(s) that have been paying attention to YoonA since a long time ago said that since your debut, you have already know how to take care and being considerate towards others. In order to feel composed and less nervous, I will often give myself self-encouragement. I really feel at ease a lot lately, I don’t get panicked or frustrated, and I feel relaxed a lot too. This 10 years really give me a calming heart.

In the past one year, you have consecutively took on 3 projects: drama ‘The K2’, movie ‘Confidential Assignment and drama ‘The King In Love’. You also have to take care of SNSD’s 6th album activities. It must be tough both mentally and physically. In actual fact, I had a blank period of 2 to 3 years in Korea, and I feel the thirst towards projects during that period. This yearning eliminates my fear of taking up new roles. Ah, Anna in ‘The K2’ has a totally different personality from mine, I was once very worried but it seem like the reactions I gotten are surprisedly well so I gotten courage and motivation for my next work.

After ‘The King In Love’ ended, you unexpectedly had a lot of press interviews; everyday has been hectic for you. It seem like you have a lot of sentimental attachment to the drama. No matter what I will always hope for a good ending. I think that it is the best to wrap up any project with post-project interviews, to put a closure with a sincere heart. Not only am I able to express things that I was unable to say back then, on the other hand I am also curious of audience’s reaction. This is also an indirect way where I can interact with my fans.

‘9 Ends 2 Outs’ which aired in 2007 was your debut work. What is the kind of hearty homerun that you anticipate in your life? I don’t ask for others, but I hope to be able to meet with a project that I can display fully 100% Im YoonA. Right now I am still not sure what kind of roles suit me, my past roles are roles that do not have a job, so fans really look forward to me in a role with a profession. There are also fans hoping that I will act as a rich girl, one who is mean and picky, and owns everything except a good personality.

Among all the things surrounding YoonA, I realized that you understand your fans really well. Do you realize you are a ‘fans-mania’ (someone who has fans in her heart) When I held a birthday party with fans, fans said they wish to see Ooh La-la stage performance, a song that was in our first studio album. I made a promise with them that I will fight for it to come true. While preparing for the song list for SNSD’s 10th year debut anniversary. I insisted that regardless of what we have to include this song. Because this song is more towards the cutesy side, so members feel embarrassed of it. I insisted saying that this will be fun, and in the end it got finalized.

You are a hidden charity angel, I heard that you are the first girl group member to join the ‘Honor society’, you have been consistently involved in charity works from debut till now. This is thanks to my family that I began this. My birthday this year, fans donated a sum of 19900530 won which reflected my exact birthday. I am really thankful that fans are able to do good deeds together with me; I have to work even harder.

Fans who are enthusiastically supporting you have also gradually increased, your sense of responsibility must also have increased with increasing influence right. I put down the weight, and walk side by side with fans; this is my mentality right now. In the time we spent together, growing up together with everyone, I feel very at ease.

Lately, has there been any work that leaves an impact on you? I am currently reading a book called “아무것도 아닌 지금은 없다” (Literally translated as 'The Present Cannot Be Meaningless') and I received a lot of comfort from it. I am learning how to think from a different perspective, and when I was at It, I realized that never once did I tell myself things like ‘you have worked hard’. I am not the kind that will talk to myself (Laughs). I started reading this book when drama ‘The King In Love’ ended, and for the first time I told myself that I have worked hard. (Book: Link)

You seem to be a gentle person, so it is a little surprising. I am someone who is very harsh on myself, no matter what I am learning I always find myself lacking, I wanted to do everything well, so often people told me that I am a perfectionist.

I thought that you are someone who only walk on flowery paths, I heard that you are the member that was the longest as a trainee, and before your debut you even auditioned for over a 100 times. Movies, dramas and CFs indeed do added up to more than 100 times; it set a very good foundation for me. Before, I got really shy when I stood in front of the public, but I have become a lot more confident since then.

Since elementary school, it is really incredible how you persisted over more than 5 years as a trainee Perhaps it is because I didn’t understand much back then, and it is things that I like so I work hard unconditionally for it. Even though it was tough but because I am doing things that I love so I feel happy. However if it is right now then perhaps I won’t do it anymore. (Laughs)

If you ever thought of an ordinary life, what would you like to do? I want to go travelling freely. Because of my schedules I get to go to a lot of countries but I have to head back once my schedules ended so I didn’t have much time to travel leisurely.

2 years ago today, can you still remember what you were doing then? That time I think I set up my Instagram account.

However your following has already reach 7.09million now, do you still remember what you were doing in September 2016? I was filming ‘The K2’. From there I realized the joy of acting.

So what kind of memories do you have for September 2017? Cutting short hair for the first time in 8 years? (Laughs)
