Am I the only one who feels spoiled by reading Tamora Pierce as a child and then never finding something that hit quite the same? She really had it all. One of the only authors I’ve seen do multiple generations well (because the previous generations aren’t just offed or all of their progress backtracked). Ambient vs scholarly magic systems is still one of the coolest magic systems to this day. The friendships are perfect and just the right amount of romance to make it fun. Redemption stories that fit the characters and don’t make them perfect angels even as they grow for the better. Tragic regression stories that haunt the characters (and me).

In retrospect if the beatles had a group chat no one would be excluded but Paul and John would constantly be "accidentally" sending things to the chat that were just meant for one another (things that illustrate how intense and powerful but also fun their relationship is) until they just drop all pretense and use the group chat for 100% of their one-on-one communication, exchanging approximately 300 texts a day. At first it's cute but then it starts to feel smug and then performative and then a little desperate, and Ringo would have the sense to mute it and forget about it, but George would stay in the chat for years and read every single message until he finally throws his phone in a river and quits the band. So John and Paul promise to include him more in the group chat, which feels very oblique to the actual problem (something about this isn't normal it's just not) but it's still a concession so he mutes the chat and comes back. Once Paul and John realize they're only talking to each other they text about 1-2 times a week. George assumes they still exchange 300 texts a day and resents it. Paul and John never forgive him for ruining the group chat. I haven't thought about this too much YOU'VE thought about it too much.

#alternatively they'd make a chat without ringo from the start as an opportunity to third-wheel george #and at first george would react perfectly (excited to be included and devastated to not really be included) but then he suddenly leaves #and won't tell either of them why he's mad or even admit that he's mad at all bc he knows he got played yet again #but you can bet your ass he's complaining to *everyone* else about what horrible monsters they are for liking each other more than him #op #shitpost
