Hiii!! I love your work so much and was wondering if you could do a poly marauders (and lily) x hufflepuff coded fem reader comfort fic 💛 maybe they are just having a bad day, being insecure and everyone tries there best to comfort her? thankyou (even if you decide not to)
Omg hi lovely! Thank you so much for the request. This is actually my first ever and I’m so excited and happy to write it for you! I hope it lives up to your standards - MK <3
Just Hold Me For Awhile
——————————————————————————
Poly!Marauders + Lily x fem!reader
Word count: 1.3k
Cw: low self-esteem, hurt/comfort, sad/anxious reader
A/n: Baby’s first request! Ngl I rewrote this like three times, but now it finally feels genuine and I’m very happy with it. I hope you all enjoy :)
There is no evidence to confirm your fears besides the incessant voice inside your head.
You’re not good enough.
You’re not smart enough.
You’re not funny enough.
You’re not pretty enough.
Eventually, they’re all going to leave you.
You are going to end up alone.
Deep down, you know none of these things are true. But reason is no match for your anxiety and the extraordinariness of each of your partners.
James- best Gryffindor chaser the team has had
in years.
Lily- number one in your class.
Remus- Casanova of Gryffindor tower.
Sirius- absolutely fearless in the face of adversity.
You- the ordinary Hufflepuff who just got lucky.
It consistently amazes you that you ended up in a relationship with these four bold, well-known, and well-liked Gryffindors. They all love you so much and you feel grateful that you get to love and be loved by them everyday.
But no matter how much love and care they give you, it cannot entirely soothe the deep-rooted feeling of inadequacy lurking within. You can’t help but sometimes feel out of place in your own relationship- not because your partners exclude you, but rather because your obvious ordinariness situates you outside their circular of extraordinariness.
It’s a feeling that’s lingered since the four first showed interest in you, but recently it’s been possessing you tenfold.
All these thoughts are racing around in your head as you sit at the foot of Sirius’ bed in the boys’ dormitory. Peter is off on a date, leaving you five with some much needed alone time. The moment is serene, with Sirius painting your nails a soft green, Lily braiding Sirius’ hair out of his face, Remus dangling over the edge talking to you three, and James on top of him, massaging his back.
The four are talking about some recent Hogwarts drama, so you’ve sort of zoned out of the conversation, only adding in commentary here or there.
“I mean, I’m so glad Pandora hexed him,” Lily says, “he totally deserved it.”
“I just never would’ve pinned her as the type of person to hex someone, with the way she’s so soft spoken and all,” Sirius replies.
“She does hang out with your brother and Junior though,” Remus reminds him.
“And Evan is her brother,” James adds with a laugh, “it’s in her blood. I just wish I could’ve seen Mulciber’s face.”
“It probably looked as dumb and stupid as always, if not more so,” Sirius jokes.
Everyone busts out laughing and you faintly chuckle through your anxiety-induced brain fog.
Someone taps the side of your cheek.
“Doll, you there?”
You jolt out of your trance and look at Sirius, “hmm? Sorry, what?”
“I asked if you wanted anything else done to your nails.”
You briefly glance down at your perfectly manicured nails, “oh, uh, yeah. Perfect as always, my star.”
Remus reaches down and tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, “are you okay, dove? I feel like you’ve been awfully quiet today.”
You smile a little and wave him off, “oh yeah, fine. Just tired, Moons.”
“Wanna come take a nap, angel?” James asks sweetly, opening his arms.
Though you’re not actually that tired, it’s mainly just an excuse, you can’t pass up the offer from your cuddliest of boyfriends. You peck Sirius’ cheek as a thank you for doing your nails and then crawl onto James’ lap. You situate your head on his chest and curl up as he wraps his arms around you. His musky cologne eases the knots in your stomach a little and you try to focus on the steady beat of his heart.
“Better?” he mumbles into your hair.
You quietly hum in confirmation.
You keep your eyes closed all cuddled up with James as you listen to your partners quietly chat. Within minutes of your getting settled you sense movement on the bed. Remus shifts upwards to lay next to you and James- you can tell from the sudden increase in body heat- and you feel Sirius and Lily lay down at your feet.
Suddenly, you feel a pair of rough lips- Remus’ lips- against your forehead. Though he thinks you’re asleep, you hear him whisper, “get some rest, my sweet girl.”
Someone’s head falls on your knee and then you hear Lily’s voice, “she’s so pretty when she sleeps, isn’t she? All soft and peaceful.”
You recognize Sirius’ habitual stroking of your leg with his thumb as he adds, “I didn’t think she could get any softer or sweeter, but here we are.”
“Our angel,” James coos.
Though you suppose most would feel pretty lucky to hear these things about themselves, they only make you feel worse.
You hate yourself.
You hate yourself for having four wonderful, caring, and loving partners, and you can’t even appreciate them because of your own self-loathing. You despise this nasty habit of self-sabotage, but you’re not sure how to break it.
As you lay there and listen to them say such nice things about you, you feel a lump grow in your throat and hot tears spring to your eyes. The tightness in your chest is near painful, and you need some relief.
You try to shift just the slightest- as if you’re just moving around in your sleep- to bury your head in James’ chest, out of everyone’s eyesight.
But once you let one tear drop, a whole rainstorm comes. You try and keep your sobs and sniffling quiet, but your hot, wet tears give you away to James.
“Angel?” James asks worriedly. He pulls you away from his chest to look at your face and sees the snotty, tear-stained mess you’ve become.
“Dove,” Remus pleads worriedly, “what’s wrong? What’s happened.”
Your sobs are too strong for you to respond and you can only shrug your shoulders. Your eyes are blinded by tears and you can’t see their faces, but you know they’re filled with concern and worry. To make them worry like this only causes you to cry harder.
You’re not really aware of what’s happening around you. All you know is one minute your in James’ arms, and the next in Sirius’. Sirius strokes your hair away from your face and holds you in his lap like a baby. He rocks you back and forth quietly, not saying anything at all.
It’s nice, not having to say anything and just crying. Even if you had the ability to speak through your tears, you don’t know that you could. There’s no easy way to describe your feelings of inadequacy, and no amount of ‘talking it out’ could ever just solve the problem either. So you just cry. Cry because you’re angry that you feel this way. Cry because you’re sad. Cry because you’re tired. Tired of not feeling like you’re ever enough. And you cry just because you can. Because you know that your partners will be there for you for as long as you need to cry.
And when the sobs finally quiet to a hiccup here or there, you appreciate that they give you silence to breathe and just process everything.
Lily stands and wanders off, coming back with a glass of water that she presses into your hands. You sip it gently before James takes it from you and sets it on the nightstand. Remus goes and grabs a hot washcloth, wiping your face oh so gently with a soft look in his brown eyes. Sirius hands you back to James- your most tactile partner- and settles again at your feet.
Then, with the most quiet and tender voice, Sirius asks you only one thing, “What do you need from us?”
“Just hold me for awhile.”
And so, like many days before, and hopefully every day after, you five pile into bed, reveling in each other’s warmth and security.
As you lay surrounded by your lovers, you know that even though those same lousy feelings continue to reside inside of you, you will figure it out. And when you’re ready to talk, or rant, or cry some more, your partners will be there.

Dear students,
We have a few announcements for this week as well as some juicy gossip.
First things first, the quidditch season begins this upcoming weekend with our first game being Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff. If you are still holding tryouts for your new team mates, you're late so get on with it.
Secondly, there is a rumor of another lovely party coming around, hosted by none other than Ravenclaw but you didn't hear it from me. Busy weekend for parties knowing Gryffindor or Hufflepuff will probably host one this weekend as well. Do we have an epic party battle beginning on our hands?
Third, McGonagall seems to have taken quite the liking to none other than @marls-mckinn0n . She's given the girl more than three chances to renew her transfiguration project. And yet she still hasn't done it nor received a detention. Is this bias I see?
And now onto our juicy gossip for the week.
Starting off with Xenophilus Lovegood. We all know the boy has been pining after none other than Pandora Rosier for quite sometime now but does he not realize his untold infatuation with the girl is in fact losing him his prize.
However he does not see his epic portrayal of being just the girl's good friend as a ruse. He refuses to tell the girl how he feels and yet somehow claims to say exactly what he thinks. Might we have a liar on our hands?
Now for our next set of gossip. This one's been going around Hogwarts for quite some time now. It is said that none other than our well known Lucius Malfoy has kissed none other than Pandora Rosier at Sirius'Blacks big birthday bash this past weekend. Well I am here to confirm the rumors are in fact true. Our dear student council cameraman has in fact caught a photo of the two right before the girl ran off. Is a romance blossoming? Or is Malfoy just the world's worst kisser?
Now for Lily and Barty. Has anyone noticed how much Barty and Evan flirt with one another? Is it just casual bromance or something more lying just below the surface. I mean Barty's own defense against the idea was well let's say as believable as a humpback whale living in Hufflepuffs common room.
On another note Emmeline Vance drawing Mary MacDonald in a tree? Our sources say the two are very much interested in one another in a more romantic sense. What do you think are they in love or just two girl friends hanging out? We'll let you decide.
Dorcas Meadows and Marlene Mckinnon have also seemed to find comfort in one another with a recent post made by Dorcas stating they had in fact been on a date with one another.
Peter Peter petigrew has finally found himself a date or should I say two. Peter was spotted going on a date with none other than Skylar Faircloth and Gilderoy Lockhart. Is love in the air? If so let me suck in some air molecules because where is my romance?
Anywho has anyone seen Regulus Blacks new hair? It's pretty rad if I say so myself. Definitely unexpected from the youngest Black but such a great way to express his possibly new found style.
This seems like more romance than gossip this week but I suppose we'll see where the love blows once the winds roll in. Either way congratulations to all of you love birds and I will see you all next week with some more gossip!
Tah Tah, Darlings! 💋

November 11th, 1975
Regulus Black had officially become the Slytherin’s new seeker, much to Sirius’ vexation.
“He’s just trying to copy me, he’s never been interested in Quidditch a day in his bloody life!” He whined over breakfast the morning that the new rosters were posted.
“I mean, isn’t that what younger siblings do?” She asking through a bite of toast, “They want to be just like the older one?”
She looked to Peter for confirmation. As an only child, she had no idea what sibling dynamics were like, though she doubted they were always as erratic as Sirius and Reg though.
Peter shrugged and shoveled eggs into his mouth.
“Thanks for the help Pete,” she muttered sarcastically.
“Anytime,” he smiled, elbowing her in jest.
Sirius groaned loudly, “I can’t believe this is happening to me.”
She stared at him incredulously, “I’m sorry, but what exactly is happening to you?”
“Just promise me you’ll knock that cocky prick off his broom,” he avoided the question (as he tended to always do when he was being overly dramatic), “Hufflepuff faces Slytherin before we do, so you’ll be able to draw first blood.”
“Jesus Christ, Sirius, I’m not going to purposefully aim bludgers at your brother just because you’re mad at him.”
He scowled at her from across the table as if she’d struck him.
She gave him a pointed look as she threw the strap of her bag over a shoulder, rising from the table, “I’m a professional, I don’t take out petty grudges on the pitch.”
James looked up at her and nodded with pride. Sirius aggressively stabbed a sausage with his fork.
“With that in mind,” she said primly, “If a bludger just so happens to come a little too close to Reggie’s sparkly new broom, I can’t be held accountable for just doing my job as beater.”
Sirius looked up at her with a devilish grin, as James opened his mouth to more than likely recite something from the ICWQC handbook, but before he could begin, she turned on her heel and headed to Potions.
———
November 26th, 1975
Regulus stared at her from across the pitch.
She knew it was supposed to be a fear tactic, but Sirius’ words were still ringing in her ears from earlier that morning: I’m rooting for you, little bee.
She was a better player than Regulus, but by the looks of his slick new broom, she wasn’t sure if she could out maneuver him.
The whistle blew from below, and both teams erupted into motion. Immediately she lost sight of Reg, a bludger shooting right towards her courtesy of a Slytherin beater. She quickly smacked it away, aiming towards the opposing chaser making a (rather impressive) dive towards the Hufflepuff player currently holding the quaffle tight under their arm.
The match was a brutal one.
She tried to keep one eye out for Regulus at all times, Sirius having warned her that he wouldn’t play fair. Sure enough, during the second half of the game, he almost ran her into the stands, cutting so close to her broom that she was forced to swerve aggressively towards to a cheering section of second year Hufflepuffs. As she righted herself, Regulus continued his ascent, turning back with a sly smirk.
Fuck playing nice (She’d say that to James’ face later).
Gritting her teeth, she shot after him, adjusting her stance to increase speed. Suddenly, his head snapped to the side, and she knew he had spotted the snitch.
Regulus bolted towards the left, and she quickly followed, weaving around players as they soared through the air. She knew her captain would have some choice words for her later, but in the present moment she couldn’t care less.
It happened in the blink of an eye, and in hindsight, she could retrace all of her mistakes, but as Reg kicked the bludger towards her, she couldn’t move quickly enough.
It smashed through the front of her broom, causing her to lose control and plummet towards the ground. Pulling up on the broken handle with as much force she could muster, flashbacks from her first time on a broom ricocheted through her mind. Please don’t let me fall in front of all these people, she thought desperately.
Meters from the ground, she finally leveled out well enough, the old school-issued broom slowing enough to let her feet hit the grass at a speed that wouldn’t break any bones. Her toes scraped against the packed earth, sending her flying from the seat and onto the wet grass. She closed her eyes right before impact, rolling onto her side protectively.
The crowd gasped, but there was no whistle.
Mentally, she assessed her body for injury. She wiggled her toes, followed by her fingers, and then twisted her neck slightly. She was okay, there would most definitely be a mean bruise on her side by tomorrow, but nothing was broken. Opening her eyes, she rolled onto her back and watched as Regulus did a victory lap around the pitch, snitch in his outstretched hand.
———
“That fucker did it on purpose!” Sirius yelled, almost having to be physically restrained by a professor as he ran from the stands onto the pitch.
She had chucked the shattered broom onto the grass, leaving it in her wake as she stormed back towards the changing rooms. She couldn’t believe that she was bested by a brand new seeker, let alone Regulus fucking Black.
Sirius ran up beside her, cutting off the path and grabbing her face.
“Are you alright?” He asked, eyes scanning every bit of her body for injury.
“I’m fine,” she growled, trying to break out of his grasp. At that point, the other three boys had caught up.
“Brilliant save,” James crowed, “that could’ve been catastrophic!”
She ignored him entirely, pushing past Sirius to continue her walk of shame. None of them tried to chase after her, and for once she was thankful.
After a scalding hot shower, during which she stood under the spray and let the water wash away the layer of brash anger coating her body, she finally emerged from the changing room feeling slightly less irate. The pitch was empty, the crowds having gone back to either the Slytherin common room to celebrate, or to the Great Hall to wallow.
As she turned the corner of the stands, she heard someone speaking in a low, gravely voice. Following the angry tone, she found Remus, wand out and pressed against Regulus’ neck.
“—you’re pathetic,” Reg spat, backed against the wooden stands.
“And you’re a fucking coward,” Remus pressed closer, causing the younger Black to shrink further into the wall.
“If you so much as breathe near her again—“
“Remus!” she hissed.
He snapped his focus to her, but didn’t remove his wand from underneath Regulus’ chin.
“We were just having a chat,” he said, turning back to face Sirius’ brother.
“I bet,” she stated calmly, though her heart was beating erratically in her chest, “Let’s go back to the tower, Moony.”
He nodded, pressing his wand into Reg’s neck one last time for good measure. As he walked to her side, she took one last look at Regulus.
“Until next time, Reggie,” she said softly, grabbing Remus’ arm before leading him back toward the castle.
Once they were out of earshot, she dug her nails into his bicep.
“What the fuck do you think you were doing?!” She whisper-screamed, “He’s Sirius’ little brother!”
Remus shook his head, “I assure you, Sirius would’ve done worse.”
The tone in his voice made her pause.
“What are you talking about? He might fight with Reg, but he’d never threaten him like that.”
Remus’ expression was contemplative, like he was once again holding onto a secret he didn’t want to share. The thought made her bristle.
He sighed when he saw her face harden, “You left before it happened.”
“Before what happened?”
“Sirius got two months of detention,” he breathed.
“For what?!”
“One for his ‘exceptionally colorful language’ as McGonagall called it, and one for taking a swing at Reg.”
Her eyes were so wide that they might fall out of her head. “W-what?”
Remus gave a half-hearted shrug, “I grabbed him before he could make contact, but McGonagall saw, and after she handed out detentions to both him and James, she ordered Sirius back to the castle.”
“James?”
The corner of Remus’ mouth quirked up, “He may have had some choice words for Regulus as well.”
She’d never condone their actions, but her heart was swelling at the image of the boys standing up for her over something so trivial. Lacing her arm back through Remus’ elbow, they began their walk back across the grounds, as she rested her head on his shoulder.

The unfortunate pairing
Regulus Black x Potter oc (Elizabeth Potter)
Words: 2.2k
Chapter 1
Series masterlist
----------------------------------------------------------
Regulus Black has by far got to be the most infuriating person Elizabeth Potter has ever had the displeasure of meeting. The cocky bastard, who always seems to be nose deep inside his book, is currently sitting opposite her in the way too small for its purpose, prefects carriage.
She shifts in her seat when she becomes uncomfortably aware of how she is sandwiched between the two Hufflepuff fifth year prefects and tries to subtly move away from the two.
This year's Head Boy and Girl, that Elizabeth hasn't been bothered to learn the names of, are currently giving some speech about responsibility and honour which she really couldn't give two shits about at this moment in time. She really needs to get out of this room. The compartment is cramped and stuffy and Regulus Black is sat there with his fucking pristine robes, shiny prefects badge and a smug grin.
Merlin. I hate him, she thinks to herself and he glances over with that stupid smirk as if he had heard her thoughts. She wouldn’t be entirely surprised if he could.
She quickly adverts her gaze and can see Remus Lupin and Lily Evans sitting a few chairs down and gives them a small friendly wave when they make eye contact.
She zones back into the meeting when she hears the Head Girl explain how this year Professor Dumbledore wants to encourage inter house communication in hopes that the everlasting rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin would be dialled down a few notches. So, to do so he wants the prefect pairs to be mixed.
Eliza sits up straight in her seat and joins the complaints and moans about the new, not so favourable circumstances.
“I know you all aren’t too thrilled about this new arrangement but we both do ask for everyone's cooperation” reasons the Head Boy. She rolls her eyes and starts to glance around the room for the potential individual that she will be stuck with for the rest of the year.
The Head Girl starts with the seventh year prefects and Elizabeth rests her head down on the top of the chair waiting for her fate.
She catches that Remus is paired with the sixth year Ravenclaw girl and Lily with the Hufflepuff boy in her year. Elizabeth notices the relieved expression on her face when Lily glances over at Severus Snape, the sixth year Slytherin prefect that she used to be friends with before the incident last year when he called her a mudblood.
Elizabeth however doesn’t seem to be as lucky as Remus and Lily when it comes to the selection. Her head moves so quickly she is surprised that it did not fall off when she hears the next two names come out of the Head Girls mouth.
“Elizabeth Potter and Regulus Black”
Her heart stops.
No
No
No
Anyone but him.
She looks at Remus in confirmation hoping that she had misheard but the sympathetic look she receives in return shoots any hope that her hearing has failed her down.
Scowling, she reluctantly turns her gaze to the devil himself to see a matching expression on his face. They make eye contact and because the two are equally as stubborn they end up having what one could only describe as a glare off for the rest of the meeting which is only broken by the sound of chairs scraping across the ground creating a headache inducing noise.
Elizabeth bolts out of her seat and heads straight towards the Head Girl but before she could even open her mouth she beats her to it.
“No I will not change your pairing”
“How did you even know that was what I was going to say?”
“That look on your face”
“What look?” She asks, getting defensive.
“The one that says you would rather do anything else than be with Black”
“Well it’s true, I would literally prefer anything else”
“It’s not going to happen” the Head Girl responds with a look that says she is done with this conversation.
“Fine” she snaps, and with that she spins around ready to leave only to be met with Black's stupid face. “Move Black I am really not in the mood to fight right now”
"What? You think that I am thrilled with this decision?”
She doesn’t respond and just resorts to moving past him, not without hitting his shoulder with hers in passing. Eliza increases her pace when she notices that Remus is waiting for her at the entrance to the compartment with Lily.
“You alright?” He queries looking at her with caution out of the corner of his eye whilst they make their way back to their shared compartment.
“No” she responds with a defeated look. “It’s absolutely ridiculous.” Remus responds by opening up his arms to allow the younger girl to have one of his infamous hugs. Elizabeth can hear a muffled giggle from Lily through the cotton of Lupin's jumper and swats her hand out in her general direction hoping to make contact. She does. “It’s not funny Evans, he is insufferable.”
They continue to walk down the corridor of the train talking about their hopes for the new school year until Remus comes to a stop outside the self-proclaimed marauders compartment that they had called dibs on in their first year. The two say a quick goodbye to Lily and open the door, Remus stepping out of the way to let Elizabeth in first.
As the pair steps into the compartment they are greeted with the celebratory cheers from 3 out of 4 of the well known band of boys that cause havoc around Hogwarts and will probably cause Professor McGonagall to go into an early retirement.
“Finally, we were beginning to believe that you would never return” exclaimed the ever dramatic Sirius Black.
“Yeah well this years Heads had a lot to say and Dumbledore decided he wanted to put us with prefects from different houses to promote inter house communication or some bullshit like that.” Explained Elizabeth with a small scoff.
“You’ll never guess who Lizzy got paired with” Remus says with a small amused huff when he throws himself down onto the nearest seat, stretching out his limbs with a sigh of relief thankful for the extra space compared to the claustrophobic prefects compartment.
“Who?” Peter inquired, intrigued in why the female Potter looks so pissed off and Remus on the verge of laughter.
“Sirius’s stupid brother” Elizabeth mumbles grumpily, theatrically throwing herself on the seat in between her brother and Sirius, squeezing herself in the tiny gap.
“That's some rotten luck.” James states with a comforting look on his face, giving his sister a quick loving hug before letting go and turning his attention to Remus to ask “what about Evans?”
Everyone collectively groans, dreading another year of silly love confessions and ridiculous hogsmeade invitation attempts directed to the unfortunate Lily Evans who captured Potter's attention from the minute he met her in their first year.
“Are you still on that?” Asks an exasperated Sirius Black.
“You didn’t have to witness it during the summer.” Adds the youngest Potter, “he kept on moaning about how all Lily does is ignore him or call him an arrogant toerag and then would go on about how pretty she is and how much he is in love with her.”
“Hey!” shouts James. “This will be the year, just you wait. I will get Lily Evans to say yes to being my girlfriend.”
“That's what you say every year” says Peter with a hint of amusement at his friend's antics.
“Yeah I love Lily, but if I have to hear this speech one more time I might have to rip my ears off” Remus adds.
James slumps down in his seat with a frown and Eliza fears that they may have hurt his feelings so she gives him a playful nudge and states “hey, we’re just messing with you. Anyways I think it’s adorable how you still like Evans.”
“Speak for yourself” grumbles Sirius, slouching down in his seat in a flare of dramatics, which earns him a sharp elbow in the ribs from the female Potter. SIrius lets out a giant yelp and leaps out of his seat to hide next to Remus. “Moony, Lizzy’s being mean again” he whines, which results in the werewolf rolling his eyes at his best mate's antics.
“I’m sure you’ll live.”
The group of five settle down and for the next hour they discuss many different topics ranging from how their summers went to the next prank the group of 4 are going to pull.
Elizabeth checks her watch and realises that they are going to be arriving at Hogwarts in the next half an hour so she quickly excuses herself to go and get changed into her robes.
On her way to the nearest bathroom she passes the compartment that houses her two roommates and best friends Pandora Rosier and Emmaline Vance and gives them a wave, for the last four years it has been silently agreed that Elizabeth would spend the train ride up to hogwarts with her brother and his friends and then on the ride back to Kings cross station she would sit with her friends.
Once she makes it to the bathroom she notices that it is currently occupied so she leans up against the wall waiting for whoever is inside to finish their business.
Except it's now been 10 minutes and they are going to be at Hogsmeade station soon. Elizabeth weighs out the pros and cons and reluctantly goes to knock on the bathroom door, however when she is about to make contact the door swings open and reveals a slightly dishevelled looking Regulus Black and a pretty black haired slytherin that she isn’t quite sure she knows the name of.
“Really? You know you and your brother are more alike than you think.”
“Piss off Potter”
“Don’t be a dick, I've been waiting for ages to use the bathroom because you were too horny to wait a few more hours.”
“Careful Potter, wouldn’t want people to think you were jealous now would we?”
“In your dreams Black” she scoffs.
The pair stop their bickering when they hear an awkward cough come from behind Regulus and they both move out of the way so the girl can escape before she gets caught in the crossfire.
Elizabeth takes this as an opportunity to squeeze past the youngest Black brother but is too slow because he blocks her path and she ends up walking straight into his chest.
“What are we ten?” He doesn’t respond and just stares at her with that infuriating smug look on his face. “Get the fuck out of my way Black.”
“Make me”
This man.
“Is your life really that boring and sad that you’ve resulted to hovering outside the ladies bathrooms. It’s pathetic really,” Elizabeth snarked. “Now if you don’t mind I would like to get changed, so you can either move or I'll make you move.”
Regulus never gets the opportunity to fight back because just as he opens his mouth to respond he is brutally shoved into the nearest wall as Elizabeth forces her way past him. He lets out a little breathless chuckle as he watches the girl walk towards the bathroom and closes the door behind her.
The boy starts to make his way back to the compartment that his two friends Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch jr are currently residing in doing God knows what and quite frankly Regulus doesn’t want to know. He gives a brief smile to Pandora as he passes her and opens the door to the compartment next to hers. Regulus is greeted with the sight of Barty sprawled across Evans lap with a book in his hand, the minister's son shoots up at the sound of the door opening with an excited grin on his face as he exclaims “Reggie! Took you long enough, we were starting to think you would never return.”
“Don’t call me Reggie, Bartemius” Regulus said with a huff as he planted himself on the seat opposite his best friends.
“What’s gotten you in such a sour mood?”
“I’ve been paired with Potter for prefect rounds”
From where he has been sitting quietly, observing the conversation, Evan stifles a little knowing smirk at his friend's misery.
“Oh, how tragic,” Rosier taunts looking up at Regulus with a teasing gaze.
“Fuck of Evan”
“He’s just saying what we are all thinking,” Barty adds and as if summoned by the conversation Elizabeth Potter hurries past the compartment, successfully capturing the attention of the three boys, especially the youngest Black. But what seems to be the main focus of Regulus’ attention is the fact that Remus Lupin is trailing the young girl deep in conversation with her and he catches himself thinking what the hell is he doing there.
“Careful Reg, jealousy looks good on no one” warns Evan.
“I’m not jealous, I'm just thinking about how I am going to be stuck with her for the rest of this miserable year.”
“Sure, tell that to the daggers you were just throwing at Lupin” says Barty and then that is the end of the conversation as the train had finally arrived at Hogsmeade station.
And Regulus could not have been more wrong as their fifth year was anything but miserable.

so those two had the nerve to die in the (first) war but so did everyone else so I can't really be mad.
they're usually the people introduced in fics as a fill-in character, like to give some piece of information or a throw-away date even though we all know they should be together.
alternatively Benjy should be with me.
(we're not going to address that previous comment as it is mostly a joke)
my version of Benjy is forgetful ADHD nightmare (perhaps audhd?). he skips meals, frantically revised for exams the night before and forgets to practice basic hygiene (brushing his hair in specific) on a daily basis.
(also this mf does not sleep. he looks like a raccoon)
My Caradoc has the classic marauders trait of "My father? who's that?" and his favourite thing to do is dye his hair wacky colours and reads more fiction books than the year combined. Oh yeah he's neurodivergent and extremely mentally ill (if the hair dye does not confirm that for you)
I'd write them as both ravenclaw but a popular headcanon is that Benjy was Hufflepuff which I can't really disagree with its just not my version.
I'd use the ship name reconditeravens (which I made up because there was none) because everyone forgets them and I'm bitter.
My hcs would be Benjy: unlabeled, demiboy, asexual and demiromantic.
Caradoc- Gay.
funny the difference in those lengths.
(if you have anything to add, please it's very welcome)
other tidbits, they're really good friends with Emma and Hestia, Benjy once told the common room door to "Fuck away off" when he came back to the dorms at 3 am after falling asleep behind a shelf in the library, they both had crushes on Remus (as did everyone) and Benjy really liked both Evan and Barty in fifth year, Caradoc's favourite book is the picture of Dorian Gray, Benjy's favourite subject is herbology, Doc's is astronomy but they both really enjoy History of Magic, the Beatles was a shared love between the friendgroup, also Blondie thanks to Emma.
They met after a Slughorn forcing them together in potions because he had a "Stick the successful student with the disaster and see what happens" attitude. The former being the ever organised Caradoc and the latter being the chaos child that is first year Benjy Fenwick.
I won't go into fancasts because I don't really use those for writing or am that into them for marauders most of the time (too many fights).
in a modern au Benjy would love stick seasons and that's that. I'm not overly sure about Doc.
@b1tchplease114 I had time to think about it so I added more if you want to read it
I need someone to sit down and explain who Caradoc Dearborn and Benjy Fenwick are like I’m a toddler

warnings || angst/fluff
the gryffindor common room was packed to the brim with people. the soft, sweet smell of butterbeer was paired with the sharper, much harsher smell of firewhiskey. it was the typical smell of the common room - only growing more potent when there was a party.
i sat next to lily, her hair pulled into a ponytail that tickled my cheek whenever she turned to look at or talk to someone. i could hear music but, under the sound of everyone, it was realistically quite faint.
really, i’d only come on lily’s request - saying that there was no way she’d be able to handle the party by herself. well, she said party, but i’m sure what she really meant was that she couldn’t handle james potter by herself.
speaking of, he’d just walked up to the couch we’d been sitting on - two cups in his hand.
“you two look like butterbeer girls - here, enjoy.” he handed us the drinks, the inhale i take to capture the sweet aroma confirming his assumption. lily let out a low noise - something akin to a scoff, but i could see her blush even in the low light of the room. a cocky smile was plastered on his face as he leaned against a wall next to us, “‘m glad you showed - was worried for a minute.” he was talking to the both of us, but he was looking at lily. i smiled a little, raising up from my seat. i could see lily’s betrayed look out of my peripheral, but i simply smiled.
“i think i saw meredith, i’m gonna say hi! potter-” he looks at me, “behave.” he smiles a little, before nodding and waving me off.
i had in fact seen meredith, and she was dancing and singing unintelligably. hell, she didn’t even recognize me for a few minutes. i realized almost immediately that it was because of the firewhiskey - and, after a sniff of her empty glass, realized just how effective the beverage must be. i found one of her friends, handing her off as i thought about just how bad her hangover would be the next day.
sirius sat at an edge of the room, having set up a makeshift bar. he noticed me as i walked over, smiling in greeting.
“hey there!”
“hello - mind getting me another one of these?” short chairs were set up across from him, and i sat in one, as i gestured to my now near-empty cup of butterbeer. he smiles, nodding and taking my cup, “so, how’d you get roped into bartender duty?” he laughs as he pours my drink.
“james bought all the drinks - he wanted me making sure nothing was wasted.” i widen my eyes, recalling something i’d seen on the other side of the room.
“well, i hate to tell you, but some of those hufflepuffs you guys invited were playing beer pong with half-full cups of vodka, so-” he swears lightly under his breath, handing me my cup. he turns to his left, calling for someone.
“pete! tell those hufflepuffs to drink or leave. giggly bastards.” he shook his head, and i giggled. he slumped a little onto the wall, and i sunk comfortably into my seat, “you looking for moony?” midway through a sip, i nearly spit it out.
remus lupin. nerdy, shy and oh-so-cute. just my type.
being a gryffindor meant you definitely knew the four - the marauders, as they called themselves. being lily evans’ best friend meant you had a more - how do i put it? - intimate relationship with the group. and by intimate, i mean james following her around like a lost puppy and the rest of them following his lead. it led to a pseudo-friendship with james, considering he could never really focus on me whenever lily was around, and an actual friendship with sirius and pete. the latter of which also really never spoke.
then there was remus. our relationship was a little more complicated. well, it wouldn’t have been, if i wasn’t so goddamn in love with him.
he was just so sweet. he had the same charm as james or sirius, but without all the cockiness. it was just simple and genuine. it was the way his hair would fall into his eyes as he told me about something dumb sirius did, or how he’d help pete with transfiguration homework in the common room, or the way that he’d just listen to me - with an intensity that made me feel like i was the only person he would ever want to listen to.
then, there was that day we were potions partners.
i remember my hands being all clammy, so focused on not embarrassing myself in front of him that it became a self-fulfilling prophecy - the neglected vat of purple liquid in our cauldron fizzing up and spilling over the edges, and onto me. i’d cursed myself - thankful that the potion wasn’t at all dangerous - but still fully flustered. slughorn had been sympathetic but, overall, quite useless.
it’d been remus who’d followed me to a bathroom, helping me clean myself up. as i scrubbed rigorously at my button-up, he’d quickly realized that it wasn’t - for the moment - salvageable.
“that’s not coming out, is it?” i let out a defeated sound - a mix of a sigh and a laugh.
“yeah, i guess it’s not. oh, well-” i stop myself as i see him grabbing the sweater he had on and pulling it off his body. he had a shirt on similar to mine underneath - of course, without a bright purple stain.
“here. better than your shirt.” he’s got a soft smile. i hesitate, more out of shock at the kind gesture than anything, and his eyes widen, “i mean - if you’re comfortable with it- you don’t-” i stop him by taking the sweater.
“thank you, remus.” he lets me change, still waiting outside as i exit the bathroom.
“what’d you have next?” i stop and think, button-up being pushed into my book bag.
“um - mcgonagall, i pretty sure.” his face brightens.
“hey, i’ve got her too! let me walk you?” i’m stunned for a second, but i can see that his brain is about to overclock again, so i quickly nod.
the class was on the other end of campus, giving me ample time to tell the story of how meredith and I, as potions partners, had nearly burned a hole through our cauldron. he, in turn, told me about the time james and sirius nearly set slughorn’s robes on fire. i’d been laughing so hard at the story that lily looked equal parts concerned and curious as i took my seat next to her. he’d smiled too, taking a seat with peter a couple chairs down the row.
mcgonagall’s lesson had been quite ordinary, until the end of it. as everyone had packed up to leave, she’d called me aside.
of course, on the one day i don’t wear the correct uniform, i get called out on it. and - of course - i couldn’t explain the reason for my lack of button-up, as i felt that professor mcgnnagall and i had some sort of mutual respect - and that i’d probably lose it if i told her the potions story. as i got ready to take her berating with small, defeated nods, i hear someone clear their throat from behind me.
turning around, i see remus looking sheepish.
“sorry, professor - that’s my fault.” i widen my eyes at what he says, while mcgonagall waits for an explanation, “we were in potions together, and i accidentally spilled some onto her shirt.” both our jaws drop - mine in shock that he’s taking the blame for me, and mcgonagall’s as she starts berating him for how careless ‘his’ actions were.
nevertheless, we were out of the classroom soon enough. i think i hear us both breathe a sigh of relief as we exit, before i turn to look at him.
“you didn’t have to do that, you know.”
“i know. wanted to.” he said, with a small shrug. it seemed almost dismissive, so i decided not to comment.
that day cemented my adoration for him. of course, this made me avoid the common room like the plague, always worried that i’d see him, do something dumb, and make a laughing stock of myself. still, i sorta had to see him during meals - and treasured those moments and conversations so much that it was almost pitiful.
it was a weird juxtaposition - wanting to spend every moment with him, but also believing that, if i did, i’d make a fool of myself.
it all came to a head about two weeks later. even lily had noticed my strange absences, making a point to ask me about it. i’d responded with something - honestly? - stupid and dismissive. she looked like she wanted to ask more, but bit her tongue in the end. the person i really couldn’t hide from, though, was remus.
he’d caught me as i tried to make my way up to my dorm after my classes on friday.
“hey, y/n! mind if i talk to you really quick?” i’d malfunctioned for a half-moment, before swallowing, and nodding. we’d walked up to his dorm - james and pete were with lily and meredith, and sirius was apparently in the ‘library studying’.
in other words - we were alone. together.
it was silent for a moment, as he leaned against his bed post and i found refuge on the windowsill.
“so…” i start slowly, “what did you want to talk about?” i was avoiding his gaze, but brought my eyes up to him. he was looking at me intently, the same way he did when i was telling him a story.
as if he were trying to read me.
“...are you alright?” he finally murmured the question, after a long pause. my breath hitches a little in my throat.
“what - what do you mean?” he readjusts so that his back is against his bedpost and his arms are crossed over his chest.
“i don’t know, you’re not really around anymore. i only ever see you at breakfast or supper. you’re never in the common room - i guess i just had to ask.” i’m quiet, trying to think of a viable answer. his brows are furrowed, as if he were thinking very deeply about something,, “it - it’s not me, right? i didn’t make you uncomfortable that day after potions, did i?” i open my mouth to deny his baseless worry, before i pause.
“how - i mean, what made you think that was the problem?” i can see his body relax as he realizes that that was, in fact, not the problem.
“i’m not - i guess i just assumed. because, well, you sorta stopped talking to me after that.” a small, nervous giggle slips from my mouth.
“what’re you talking about? i’m here with you right now. i’m talking to you, right?” he rolls his eyes, a small smile on his lips as he pushes off the bedpost and walks towards me. he stands in front of me, next to where my legs dangle from the sill.
“you know that’s not what i’m talking about,” he sighs a little, his head dropping into the space between us as he places his palms onto the top of the sill - one to each side of me, “will you give me a real answer?” the question’s smaller. quieter.
of course, that could also be because my ears had started ringing. that, mixed with the sudden sound of my blood rushing as my face heated up, were all likely factors. he was close - close enough for me to tilt my head forward and do what i’d been wanting to for so long.
“i don’t - um - don’t know what to tell you.”
“tell me the truth. are you okay?”
“yes.” he sucks in a breath.
“is it me?” i close my eyes, nodding slowly, “fuck.” he mumbles, retracting. but, i grasp his hands before he can.
“remus - i’m in love with you.” both our eyes widen at the confession, and i resist the urge to slap my hand over my stupid fucking mouth. how could i say that? what would he think of me? how could i let myself just ruin everything - by destroying our friendship and making his way too uncomfortable to be around me anymore-
“seriously?” his question cuts off my inner rambling. my eyes had closed somewhere along the way, but i couldn’t stop my head from nodding in response to him, “y/n. y/n, look at me.” i can feel his fingers at my chin, urging my eyes open. they do, tentatively, and i’m met with a look of incredulity and a smile.
“seriously.” the words are a whisper from my lips, and i can feel his mouth lowering to close the gap between us. he moves slowly - too slowly - prompting me to sit up and meet him half-way.
his hand’s cupping my cheek, the slightly rough pads of his fingers rubbing along my skin. his lips are chapped, but gentle, lightly pushing against mine as i smile into him. i thread my fingers around his neck, finding solace in the tendrils of hair at the nape of it.
i break away slowly, breathing deeply, eyes still closed.
“why’d you do that?” i murmur, and the breath of his quiet laugh hits my cheek.
“why’d you think? i love you too.”
he’d actually ended up regretting the kiss later - but not for the reasons one would expect. instead, he’d told me, it was simply the wrong time. he’d wanted to do it the right way - a couple dates, a proclamation of true affection, and a fairy-tale first kiss at the end of it.
as he’d told his story, i’d simply laughed. i liked our version better.
we’d actually planned on not letting the others know for a while as - of course - james and lily were meant to be the poster couple for our friend group. james would have been fuming if he learned that someone else’s pining and cute gestures were taking precedence over his own.
of course, that didn’t really last long, as sirius had quickly caught us making out as we were both drunk at the next party, and had promptly hollered the news to everyone else. i’m pretty sure that party ended early, actually, with peter, sirius, lily and meredith all asking us a plethora of questions. james had gone to bed early - probably to sulk.
we’d gone very strong for nearly half a year. sirius had made a joke that we were the perfect couple - so busy dealing with his bullshit that we never had to deal with our own. it was funny at the time, and we’d laughed it off - neither assuming that our relationship really had any shit that we needed to figure out.
that was, until around that six-month mark. there’d been something that had started bothering me about them - all of them - and it was shocking to me how much they all brushed it off.
there was another student in our year, severus snape - a slytherin. he’d always been quiet and, from the looks of it, a bit lonely. in fact, i never even noticed his much until james had taken it upon himself to harass the student. well, james always said it was all in the name of respecting lily - the guy had said some rather odd things to her. but, they never seemed malicious. only a little sad. james had taken it as an attack on his ego and, together with sirius, caused a plethora of problems for snape. remus had even joined in on a few occasions, but his usual role of sitting and letting james and sirius do as they wished was - honestly - shocking enough for me already.
i’d asked him time and time again what his moral compass had consisted of - and how harassing a student because he didn’t know how to flirt fell onto it. he’d insisted every time that snape deserved it, and that he wouldn’t be okay with it if he didn’t. it made me worried, his almost blind allegiance to the marauders. i loved the boys too, but could and would point out when they fucked up. i didn’t think that he could.
it had all culminated in me breaking it off. i didn’t want to be the person to pose the ultimatum of ‘them or me’ - because i felt that it would wield an answer i couldn’t bear. so, i split us quietly, quickly and without hassle.
i mean, if you count nights of drunkenly sobbing into lily or meredith’s shoulders as ‘without hassle’.
eventually, i came to the realization that snape was as much of a bastard as the boys had made him out to be. he’d had the fucking audacity to verbally abuse lily in front of me - it took both her and meredith stopping me from shoving my foot so far up his ass-
anyways.
by then, i couldn’t exactly take back what i did to remus, even if i knew he was right. i’d never told him this disagreement was the reason for our split in the first place - so i couldn’t exactly bring it up now.
and it was just so frustrating, because it was easy to get back into my normal grooves with sirius, james and peter again. going from classmates back to friends with them was easy - but how do you go from friends, to lovers, to strangers, to friends with someone?
especially when that someone seems to be avoiding you. and asking the others about him just seemed desperate and almost pitiful. so, we opted to just avoid each other and, if we couldn’t, to ignore each other.
sometimes, though, i’d catch his eyes from across the room in classes or the common room, or from the other end of the table at the dining hall. i could tell he’d look at me occasionally, but could never really figure out why. nor could i find myself blaming him, as i found myself doing the same - seeking him out whenever i knew he was in the same room as me.
that was what brought me here. sipping on a butterbeer in front of sirius.
“why would you ask that? why would i be looking for him?”
“i dunno - you’ve got that lost look in your eyes. like i’m not the guy you wanna be drinking with right now.” i scoff playfully.
“what? you’re a great drinking buddy!”
“haha,” it’s sarcastic, and he goes quiet for a second, “but, seriously, he’s been mumbling about you.” i furrow my brows.
“sorry, mumbling?” he shrugs.
“yeah, in his sleep - he says your name. he only does it when he’s stressed, honestly, it’s been driving me insane.” i gulp, suddenly feeling very guilty.
“is - is he okay?” he shrugs again.
“really not sure, he’s been acting odd lately. oh! you know when lily stays at her parents for the winter instead of staying here?” i nod slowly, “and james get’s all reclusive and pouty?”
“yeah, what-”
“that’s what remus’s like now.” my eyes widen, the analogy perfectly describing the scene. my mouth’s suddenly dry, and i feel myself start to fidget nervously with my cup.
“can i-”
“see him? he’s in the dorm. i’ll tell james and peter to stay here.” i give a short, appreciative smile, before my face contorts into worry again. placing my cup with him and pushing off my chair, i bounded up the stairs to the dorms. reaching theirs, i knock lightly on the door. nothing, so i try it again. this time, i hear a low groan from inside, and i quickly open the door.
remus’s sprawled on the windowsill, hands covering his face - his hair and clothes all messy. i rush to him, taking his hands off his face as he slowly opens his eyes. the smell of firewhiskey hits me like a train when i reach him - and i quickly realize why, upon seeing an almost-half-empty bottle of the stuff on his bedside table.
“y/n?” he asks, speech a bit slow and slurred.
“remus, are you okay?” his hands are in mine, and he clutches them a little more tightly as he falls into a fit of drunken giggles.
“‘m just fine - you’re here now!” i breathe a sigh of relief - his corny flirting a sure-fire indicator that he was just fine.
“god, you scared me. why’d you drink so much, anyways?” he shrugged.
“missed you.” i sighed, my guilt creeping its way up my body, “wanted to talk to you. peter said you’d come.” i look at him, his dazed but loving expression plastered clearly on his face.
“why’d you need to drink to talk to me?” he pauses.
“get too flustered, normally. y’make me nervous.” i scoff, one of shock.
“i make you nervous?” he nods, his arms finding themselves around my waist and pulling closer to him.
“fuck, just wanna tell you how i’m doing. want you to tell me how you’re doing.” i giggle as he pushes his forehead against my cheek.
it’s so normal, just like we used to be. huddled up in his dorm, just talking to each other.
“you can do that, remus. how are you?”
“so drunk.” he laughs, and i laugh a little too. it’s silent for a few seconds. i appreciate the heat of his body, the sweetness of his breath, the way his hair tickles my cheek, “missed you.”
“i missed you, too.”
“i tried to let you ago. couldn’t.” i sigh.
“can’t let you go either.”
“just wanna talk to you again.”
“then talk.”
and he did. he talked, in his drunken stupor, until we heard the commotion of the party from downstairs die down. until we could feel the soft tendrils of the first rays of the sun.
that was when he stopped. but only for a minute.
“can i kiss you?” i look at his face, the drunken haziness - while still there - overpowered by that intensity from the day i told him that i love him.
“please.”
and kiss me, he did.
on the windowsill that started it all.

i think it's a shame that marauders stans don't let their character really stand up in their messiness. they're so flawed, stand up in it!
james is a rich kid with elderly parents who is spoiled and adored. in his first scene as a young kid we see in the book he literally speaks like draco "who would want to be in slytherin [hufflepuff] i'd leave wouldn't you?" he's so blissfully unaware of sirius shutting down the conversation there too. (snape's right criticism does bounce off of him) he joins in sirius making fun of someone they don't know, imitates lily's voice when they leave, trips snape up. according to lily he hexes anyone who annoys him, and in the hbp we that that he even used illegal hexes. he has a crush on lily evans so this idiot thinks the best way to her heart is through kicking her friend when he's down, bullying him for simply existing.
he also allows peter pettigrew in his prescence as a sort of tagalong. whether or not he considered him a real friend is unknown. he doesn't mind showing off to him or that peter thinking he was the coolest thing is a very nauseating way. lily laters says he was around the house (why considering they were supposed to be in hiding i don't know) so he must have liked him a little.
he's clearly got a heart, not ostracising lupin for being a werewolf, becoming an animagus but along with the others, takes advantage of dumbledore's precautions given to lupin as per the shrieking shack and whomping willow, cavorting about the grounds and hogsmeade village with him in animagi form.
he resents snape's friendship with lily so he bullies him, in front of a crowd, seeming to revel in the attention. some people in the crowd even look nervous so he clearly intimidates people. he's obnoxious, flitting about the snitch and tosses his hair like a horse. he abhors the word 'mudblood'. when lily declares her 'hatred' he takes his anger out on snape, threatening to take his pants off. whether or not he does this is never confirmed but there was intent.
fast forward, he begins dating lily in their last year after he "deflates his head a bit." but not enough to stop bullying snape though, something he does behind lily's back, (note sirius says this was purely self defence but considering sirius' own actions in the bullying and his obvious bias towards james i think we should take it with a pinch of salt). the boy is obsessed, so much so that even remus and sirius find it a bit extra. and it's not because he knows snape is aspiring to be a death eater either, he was no clue. he also lets sirius stay with him after sirius runs away. whether or not he tried to extend some financial aid to lupin is unknown due to his inevitable struggle holding down a job, though i doubt remus would have accepted it. also around this time he and sirius expose magic to muggles in a story that was definitely meant to be endearing but just made them both come off as obnoxious uppity nuisances. (in my opinion of course)
so he gets married. around this time either before or after the marriage he meets the dursley's and antagonizes them back when the meeting inevitably goes south, something that upsets lily and leaves him ashamed. he then has a child who is marked for death so he goes into hiding. something that frustrated him so much. he is also closest with sirius so when sirius started to suspect remus was a traitor he may have believed him also. he also insists that sirius be his secret keeper, trusting him completely. and the cherry on top is when danger comes to his door he forgets his wand. james potter. a pureblooded wizard. a clever student. forgets his wand.
he was also has some really strong genes.
what a delightfully complicated fellow.

MUTUAL ATTRACTION| S.B.
Pairing: Sirius Black x Plus Size Fem!Reader
Word count: 2800 words.
Warnings: Bullying, negative body image, negative comments about body, mentions overweight/plus size reader being bullied, degrading nickname for reader
Summary: Reader doesn't believe that Sirius Black truly likes her, thinking that his interest in her is part of some joke to embarrass her for being a plus sized girl. Sirius finds out why she feels this way and attempts to convince her otherwise.
A/N: This is completely self-indulgent, so feel free to scroll past it if it's not for you. Mxx.
“Shove off, Sirius,” Y/n mumbles, the words meeting the ears of a rather confused Sirius Black as he treads out of the classroom behind her. He scoffs lightly as he falls into step next to her.
“Why are you always so mean to me, love?” He muses with a light tone, lightly brushing her shoulder with his own. “Truly, if you continue on like this, I may just think that you don’t like me and give up,” He notes, earning a side glare from her as the pair slip past some first years rushing towards the class they just exited.
“How close are we to that happening?” She questions quickly, pausing briefly at a pileup by the stairs. “Just a general timeframe for the sake of my sanity?”
“I think I could hold out a bit longer,” He confirms, and she shakes her head with a soft sigh.
“You’re that committed to this ploy?” She asks him softly, the crowd starting to move again as a professor guides students into the right directions.
“What ploy?” Sirius asks, brow raised as he stares down at the girl.
“This ploy,” Y/n explains, gripping her books in her one arm as she gestures between her and Sirius. “Convincing me that the great Hogwarts player has somehow decided to court me,” She further explains, rolling her eyes at the boy who holds a confused stare. “I’ve been at this school for six years, Sirius. I’ve outlived all of the pranks, all of the bullying and all of the weight jokes, even this one specifically. And though, to be honest, you’ve held up much longer than the other bastards at this school, it still won’t work.”
“There seems to be a rather large miscommunication happening here, love,” Sirius defends, just barely catching a glance of Y/n’s glare before she starts walking away. ‘I’m not trying to prank you, Y/n. There is no ploy,” He announces as he starts following her. She scoffs. “I like you, is that honestly so hard to believe?” He questions carefully, a hand delicately gripping her elbow to keep her from stepping into her next class. She extends a shy glance at the gentle gesture before carefully pulling away.
“Yes,” She notes plainly, not even sparing Sirius the briefest look before disappearing into the steady stream of students heading to potions.
Sirius lingered for a mere moment before walking to the Gryffindor common room in a haze, shutting the door behind him in a rush as he waited to be acknowledged by James and Remus, currently studying for their DADA quiz.
“She doesn’t like me,” Sirius announces as he falls onto his bed, his friends looking up from their work as he does.
“Who?” James questions, shoving his textbook to the side at the newfound excuse from studying.
“Y/n,” Sirius clarifies and lifts his head to look at his dark-haired friend. “I don’t get it, I’ve been a complete gentleman,” He notes and both James and Remus scoff playfully, locking eyes to share a knowing look. “What was that?” He asks, lifting himself to lean back against his headboard. “What was that look?”
“I don’t know what you mean,” Remus answers, also sliding his textbook close, folding his arms over his chest.
“I think what Remus means to say, is that you are the furthest thing from a gentleman poor Y/n will find,” James offers with a sly smirk and Remus looks down to hide a small smirk tugging at his lips as well.
“I’m offended,” Sirius muses with furrowed brows. “Utterly scarred by your insinuation,” He adds with mock hurt and shakes his head when the boys laugh in reply. “Besides, it’s not my adventures with the girls that worries her, I think it’s my adventures with you bunch that’s making her question me.”
“I don’t blame her.” Remus says as he refocuses his attention on his books. “We aren’t exactly the posterchildren for antibullying.”
“Why does that matter?” James asks before Sirius could and Remus sighs, lifting his gaze once again to explain.
“You’ve been practically stalking this girl for a month now and you’re telling me you haven’t noticed how she steers clear of Lucius Malfoy and his friends,” Remus shakes his head. “He has been bothering her for years.”
“That bastard,” Sirius mumbles and drags a hand through his hair. “Why?”
“Well take your pick, she’s a Hufflepuff and a muggleborn and as of lately, he’s been enjoying pointing out that she’s a plus size girl in a sea of smaller girls.” Remus explains which earns a slow nod from James who is now realizing how obvious Y/n’s misfortune has been.
“Wait, you’ve noticed this too?” Sirius asks with a pointed glare at James. “Why haven’t anyone said something to me?”
“Hey, it’s not our fault you’re this oblivious.” James points out and Remus nods slightly.
“Well, bloody hell, I don’t blame her either,” Sirius sighs softly, sinking back onto the bed again. “She probably thinks that I’m just another asshole taking a turn to make her life horrible.”
“Well, do you really like her?” Remus asks to which Sirius nods quickly, hair falling around his head as he moves against the bed. “Then prove her wrong.”
With Remus’ words echoing in his head, Sirius makes his way to the class he left Y/n at, a slight skip in his step due to his newfound knowledge and his plan to not only prove his intentions are pure, but to put an end to her struggle.
“Watch out,” A voice whispers behind him and he pauses, looking back to see his friends stumbling after him.
“What are you doing?” Sirius questions, pulling a hand through his hair as the boys still in front of him.
“Helping,” James explains, patting the raven-haired boy on his shoulder as Remus joins him in leading Sirius on his mission.
Y/n was unaware of the three boys heading towards her current classroom, she was however very much aware of the blonde boy that was in the same class with her at the very moment. Lucius whispered something to the boy at his side, his eyes never leaving hers as a soft laugh echoed from the group surrounding him. He musters a sly smirk as he moves to wave at her slowly. Y/n looks down at her textbook, hand shaking slightly as she adds another ingredient into her cauldron, stepping back just in case an unexpected reaction follows.
“Are you okay?” Lily Evans asks from her side. Y/n tilts her head when she hears the sincere question coming from a girl that may as well be a stranger. She nods slowly.
“I’m fine,” She replies too quickly, Lily stepping closer towards her just as another fit of laughter echoes from Lucius’ side of the classroom, a slight frown tilts into Lily’s lips as she watches the scene unfold, Y/n seeming to grow more anxious as Professor Slughorn announces the end of the class.
“Do you want me to walk out with you?” She asks, settling a hand on Y/n’s shoulder causing her to tense under her touch. Y/n frowns, closing her textbook as she turns to Lily.
“I’m fine,” Y/n repeats her earlier statement, managing a small smile before walking to the door and out of the class in a hurry, her books tightly pressed against her chest as she hears a group of determined footsteps following her, not even noticing the curious gaze of Sirius Black as she passes him in a rush. She pauses for a mere second to consider her route before turning the corner that leads her to the Hufflepuff common room, knowing that even if Lucius does catch up with her, he won’t be able to follow her inside.
“Y/n…” Lucius muses, his mocking tone slicing at her nerves as the hall around her starts to clear, her pace picking up as her heart beats in her throat.
“Where are you going, Piggy.” Another voice chimes in, laughs filling the air as a result of the comment. Y/n tightens her grip on her books and takes in a shaky breath, considering hiding in a cupboard or classroom, trying her luck in finding the room of requirements, but a sharp hand pulling her back empties her head of plans and thoughts, panic shivering though her body as her books drop to the ground in a loud thud.
“He asked you a question,” Lucius notes as he breathes into her neck, pulling her hands behind her back to keep her from running. “Answer him,” Lucius demands, not needing to raise his voice, the closeness of his body against hers fulfilling his flare for fear.
“To the common room,” Y/n admits, voice controlled as she looks at the ground, slightly struggling against his hold.
“Trying to skip out on our daily meetings?” One of his friends ask and Lucius smiles against her ear.
“Pity,” Is all he says as he loosens his grip, throwing her to the ground next to her books where she shuffles back towards the wall, desperately looking around for an escape, the boys making sure to surround her in a way that she couldn’t identify a single one. Lucius removes his wand from his robe, smiling as he points it directly as her, eyes dark as he considers which spell to begin with.
“Step away from her,” A voice commands and Y/n’s eyes shoot up, meeting the beautiful pair of brown ones first before she carefully rakes her gaze over the other two boys standing next to him, wands in their hands. “Now!” Sirius adds coldly the sharp shout filling the entire atmosphere. Y/n flinches at the guttural laugh dripping from Lucius lips. He looks from the girl on the floor to the boys in front of him and grins.
“How sweet,” He notes, bending down slowly where he reaches forward and settles a strong hold on Y/n’s chin, forcing her to keep still as his fingers pinch into her skin. “Defending her honour,” He laughs again. “You’re a few years too late, Black.”
“I know,” Sirius admits, voice forced as he tries to control himself. “But you’re done,” He steps forwards, paying no mind to Lucius’ friends turning to point their wands at him instead. “You’re done hurting her and scaring her, you’re done trying to dim that light,” He pauses briefly as he stills but inches from Lucius’ face, his eyes meeting with Y/n’s for a second as he shakes his head at the soft tears that roll down her cheeks before looking at Lucius. “I will not leave her side, not for a second.”
“But if he does, she’ll have us,” Remus declares from behind him and James nods in agreement. “And Lily and Peter and Marlene and every other person that we know will have her back.” He adds and steps closer to Y/n as well, James moving with him as they shove past Lucius’ friends and still next to Sirius.
“Get her,” James instructs, and Lucius moves aside, grinning still as he mockingly lifts his hands in surrender, his friends doing the same. Sirius wastes no time as he moves towards her, hands carefully latching onto her shoulders as he gently guides her to her feet, removing one hand to gather her books. Y/n avoids the boy’s gaze, numbly wiping at her cheeks to remove evidence of briefly cascading tears as she stumbles slightly.
“Go,” Sirius demands calmly, hands sliding down to the small of Y/n’s back as he faces Lucius, his cold tone earning a surprised reaction from everyone. “And spread the word too, Y/n is under the protection of the marauders, if you cross her, you cross us,” He notes simply, Lucius’ friends nodding quickly before collecting themselves and scurrying away. Only Lucius pauses as he extends another sly smile towards the girl in question.
“Very well,” He comments lightly and shrugs. “I’ll see you around, little Piggy,” He offers with a wink before walking away, Y/n’s hands nimbly grabbing hold of Sirius’ arm to keep him from going after him.
“Are you okay?” Remus questions when he meets the girl’s gaze, she nods slowly in reply.
“You guys didn’t have to do that,” She notes, reluctantly stepping away from Sirius and taking her books from his hold. She shakes her head. “I appreciate it, I truly do. But all you’ve done is shift his attention and tactics to you,” She explains and the boys nod, small smiles tugging at their lips as they look at Sirius who hasn’t removes his gaze from her for even a second.
“We know,” James confirms and shrugs. “But you’re important to him, which makes you important to us,” The dark-haired boy states plainly before tapping Remus’ shoulder, silently inviting him to leave.
“Thank you,” Y/n almost whispers, loud enough for the boys to hear though as they leave her and Sirius with kind smiles and gentle shrugs.
“I didn’t know,” Sirius informs her not missing a beat. “I’m an idiot for not noticing, but I swear I didn’t know.”
“I know,” She sighs, shyly looking down to her feet as his gaze intensifies on her face. “I also know that you’re not like Lucius Malfoy, despite your questionable activities with those friends of yours.”
“I wish I could’ve put a stop to it sooner,”
“It wasn’t your place to do so,” She notes and then shakes her head when she realizes how forward it sounded. “I meant that I could’ve done it myself. I know the spells and to be honest if that didn’t work, I could have just sat on the boy,” She jokes lightly, expecting Sirius to smile only to be met with a rather misplaced frown.
“You thought you deserved it?” He asks after a lingering second and she nods. “It that why you refuse to believe that I truly like you?” She nods again, slower this time, eyes back on the floor as an embarrassed tint of rose meets her cheeks.
“I don’t like myself very much, Sirius Black and I’d be damned if I tried to pretend that anyone could like any part of me when I can’t even do so myself,” She moves her hands to fiddle with the corners of her books. “There’s a lot not to like, is all, and I mean that literally,” She gestures to her body. “There’s a lot,” Sirius scoffs, tilting his heads as he looks down at the girl in front of him, quite unused to this level of honestly.
“You are a phenomenal girl, Y/n,” He notes honestly and moves a hand to her arm, fingers sliding down over her robe to intertwine with hers. “I can’t possibly explain to you what I see when I look at you, but you clearly need some enlightenment," He smiles softly. "I see the dimple on your right cheek when you laugh at Dumbledore’s comments, I see those worn-out band shirts that you wear when you’re studying in the library after everyone has left, I see that little twinkle in your eyes when someone asks you for help with their work, I see how excited you get when they have croissants at breakfast and I see how fragile you look when you’re staring up at the candles in the dining hall alone. I see you, more than you see yourself maybe, but I have yet to see a single thing that hasn’t made me completely and utterly mad about you, Y/n.” Sirius' voice is almost a whisper, his adoring tone causing a bashful smile to sink into the girl’s lips as he waits for her eyes to meet his.
“You like me,” She notes softly, more to herself than to him as she looks down to where his thumb is moving rhythmically across her hand, the movement causing shivers to tickle through her body.
“I like you,” Sirius clarifies, other hand lifting to the crook of her neck, delicately shifting the hair away from his fingers to caress her skin, keeping her in place so she doesn’t look away again. “And I’ll like you enough for the both of us for now, but I will not let another day pass without reminding you just how relentlessly extraordinary I find your very existence,” She smiles, nodding almost mindlessly as she steps forward, not quite ready to kiss the boy just yet, but yearning for the softest touch as leans into him, her books against his chest as his hands remain where there are, only shifting to be sure she’s comfortable against him. She smiles into his shirt, allowing the sweet sensation to consume her when he places a delicate kiss to the top of her head.
“I like you too, Sirius Black,” She announces carefully, tugging numbly on the hand that is folded around hers. “I like you too.”

Ministry of Magic Monthlies | October 2022: Fall and Spooky
Prompt: [dialogue] “So…this doesn’t bother you?”
Read it on AO3
Summary: Lily Evans has finally started dating. There’s just one problem. She’s not dating him.
Words: 797

Benjy Begone
It started as rumour. There was no confirmation or denial by either party that Lily Evans and Benjy Fenwick were officially dating. But now there was absolutely no denying the fact after what Peter Pettigrew had just witnessed in the defence against the dark arts corridor, Lily and Benjy walking hand in hand as he showered her cheek with brief kisses. Peter had relayed this information first to Remus and then to Sirius. James was bound to find out eventually, but the question was who would be the one to tell him and soften the blow. It was decided it was best Sirius tell him after quidditch practise, but in case he decided to throw himself off his broom into the Black Lake.
James entered the boys locker room in good spirits, they’d had a cracking practice and were bound to grind Slytherin into the dirt at the start of November. He’d slapped each of his players on the back, hit the showers and came out feeling refreshed. The changing room was empty bar Sirius, who as yet hadn’t even taken his kit off and was sitting on a bench brooding.
“James… I need to tell you something” Sirius started wearily.
“Yeah?” James replied, towelling his sopping wet hair vigorously.
“Evans is dating Benjy” best just to rip off the bandaid Sirius thought.
“Oh yeah, I know.” said James nonchalantly, which took Sirius by surprise. He’d expected a lot more curse words to come flying out of James' mouth.
“Pete saw the two of them together in the dark arts corridor. It’s not a rumour. Like they’re dating-dating.” Sirius said, making sure his meaning had been clear.
“Yeah, I know.” James repeated again, as he walked straight past Sirius and started loading his dirty gear into his kit bag.
“So… this doesn’t bother you?” Sirius asked, whirling around to face James who still had his back to him.
“Nope.” replied James, popping the ‘p’.
“Seriously? You’ve been like… obsessed with her for years.” Sirius responded incredulously.
“Yeah, don’t get me wrong. I still like Evans. But I’m not bothered that she's seeing Benjy. I’ve dated other girls, it won't last.” James shrugged off Sirius' concern.
“That may be Prongs but it could take months, years even. Look at bloody Frank and Alice.”
“But it won't,” said James confidently.
“What makes you so sure?” questioned Sirius, concerned there was an unfortunate series of events shortly in store for poor Benjy unless he intervened.
“Well for a Ravenclaw he’s not the brightest. He asked me at the start of term if he could ask Evans to Hogsmeade.” James was smug.
“Well what did you say? What’re you gonna do to him?” asked Sirius.
“Absolutely nothing. I don’t have to. He’s already dug his own grave; he just doesn’t know it yet. Evans isn’t property. As soon as she finds out he asked for my permission to take her to Hogsmeade he’s Benjy Begone. Evans won’t stand for that sexist shit. I told him what he did was his and hers business and has nothing to do with me. Besides it’s ol’ Snivelly he ought to watch out for I heard he’s come up with a good set of jinxs over summer break”
“Yeah, there’s just one flaw in your logic there, Prongs. How’s she gonna know unless Benjy tells her, which he won’t if he has half a brain. Or alternatively you tell her, which she won’t believe.” said Sirius warningly.
“Ah but you see dear Padfoot I won’t have to tell her. He asked in front of a group of Hufflepuff fourth years. I give it til Halloween before wind gets back to Evans and he’s out on his arse. Besides, it’ll irk her to know I apparently didn’t give a shit when he asked. I’m working this one out the mature way. Isn’t that what she’s always banging on about? I’m an immature toerag.”
Sirius couldn’t find fault with that one to be fair. The Hufflepuff fourth years were notorious for gossip, especially amongst the girls. Benjy may not know it but his days were numbered if Evans did have a problem with it. Which as James predicted, she did. Lily Evans came thundering up the boys staircase and into their dormitory especially to shriek at James for ‘giving Benjy permission to ask her out when she didn’t need his bloody permission’. James had exchanged a knowing look with Sirius when he told her he’d done no such thing and it was none of his business who she chose to date. Which had left her flustered and stuck trying to find a suitable scathing retort. In the end she had just walked out and slammed the door behind her. Benjy was dating a new girl by Christmas.

Stars in the Night Sky
Day 3, Story #2 is by @adenei
Title: Stars in the Night Sky
Author: adenei
Pairing: Jily (James Potter x Lily Evans)
Prompt: Stargazing
Rating: PG
TW: None :)
****************
The castle is peaceful as it nears midnight, a calm surrender to the usual bustling halls during the day. Rounds ended over an hour ago, but the quick pair of footsteps was not rushing through a late shift, they were on their way to the Astronomy Tower to meet their partner and begin Professor Sinistra’s constellation project.
Allocation of the work was all in the luck of the draw. Where one half of the class drew a name, and the other pulled the astronomical phenomenon they were to study. Lily Evans had pulled the piece of parchment on stars and constellations, and according to the project’s outline, she and her partner would be tracking Orion, Cassiopeia, Gemini, and Canis Major for the next two weeks.
The project left Lily questioning why she chose to pursue the subject after passing her O.W.L.s. Maybe it was because she has always been fascinated by the subject, or maybe it’s for the sole fact that Astronomy is one of the subjects she can discuss with her family since it relates closely to muggle sciences. Regardless, she’s not sure it’s worth the lack of sleep she’s about to endure over the next few weeks.
As Lily climbs the steps of the Astronomy Tower, her heart thunders in her chest with anticipation about who her partner will be. The class is small, with only ten students, but she didn’t bother to hang around and discuss ‘who had who’ at the end of class. She had a meeting with Professor McGonagall about her Head Girl duties and couldn’t be bothered to worry about who her partner was.
But now, after finding out through Mary that she’s been paired with Remus and Sirius pulled Benjy Fenwick’s name, Lily is nervous. Rumblings at dinner also confirmed that Calliope Forsythe of Hufflepuff was disappointed that she chose Bridgette Marls’s name instead of James’s, leaving Lily sweating the remaining possible outcomes. She doesn’t want to jinx it by getting her hopes up that James may have pulled her name out of the cauldron, and she’s mad at herself for wanting it so desperately.
We already spend enough time together with our Head duties. Plus, we’re friends now, so we can hang out whenever we like...just not alone.
Her last thought is only a partial lie, considering they’re ‘alone’ when creating schedules for rounds, but it never fails that some fifth or sixth-year students are always barging in to use the Prefect’s lounge to study, ruining any potential chance for either to make a move. Even when they’re on rounds, their conversation is constantly interrupted by catching a couple in a broom closet or empty classroom.
Lily lets out a huff of frustration as she recalls the last time, when she was sure he was about to ask her to Hogsmeade, but then there was a loud clatter from a room up ahead, breaking the moment. So really, it’d be ideal if James were her partner for this project. She’s sick of the song and dance they’ve been playing since the start of term and wants nothing more than to find out whether he still fancies her or not. After all, it’s only a matter of time that some other girl will swoop in, causing his devilishly handsome smile to be trained on them instead.
As Lily approaches the foot of the stairs leading up to the observation room, she checks her watch. 11:59. Right on time. She holds her breath during the entire stair climb, and only when she rounds the corner to the dimly lit area with one singular candle on the table to take notes, does she see him. He’s leaning over the table, the light illuminating his messy black hair as his glasses slip down his nose. The sleeves on the white shirt of his uniform are rolled up to his elbows, exposing the sinewy muscles of his forearm as Lily stands there, getting lost in a daydream that finds those arms wrapped around her body.
The hoot of an owl in the distance snaps her out of her thoughts as she takes a few steps closer.
“I hope you haven’t started without me.”
Lily’s light chiding gets James’s attention as a wide smirk dons his face. Her insides tremble as her heart pounds faster in her chest.
“How can I get started if I don’t know what we’re supposed to be looking at,” he remarks, eliciting a nervous laugh from her chest.
“Yeah, sorry for not sticking around after class. I had another appointment.”
“Well, I hope my reveal isn’t too much of a shock.”
“Better you than Mulciber or Avery,” she teases. “Why didn’t you ask Professor Sinistra what topic I pulled after you gave your information and got our timetable?”
James walks around the table to join her as she pulls out the project guidelines. She assumes he would have known what they were studying, considering everyone had to check-in and get their schedules from Professor Sinistra. Depending on what the group has chosen, their research times varied.
“Because I thought we were going for the surprise factor,” his cheeky grin matches the lightness in his voice. “Besides, I figured it’d be another excuse to pore over the parchment in close proximity.”
Lily searches the space next to her to see just how close James is before meeting his gaze. She becomes dizzy from the scent of his cologne, with hints of cinnamon and sandalwood invading her sense of smell. If she gives in to temptation now, they won’t accomplish anything on their first night.
Work first, play later.
Strengthening her resolve, Lily makes a swift turn and heads for the telescope. “We’re responsible for tracking the four constellations that are listed on the first page. I’ll see which one I can find first and we’ll go from there. We can take turns tracing, and observing if that’s alright with you.”
“Sure, I’ll get the parchment set up,” James agrees.
Lily’s not sure, but she thinks she may have heard a hint of disappointment in his tone. She pushes the thoughts aside and peers into the massive telescope that’s bolted down in the center of the room. It doesn’t take long to find Jupiter, and from there, she’s able to see a handful of the stars that make up Orion. The belt is the most prevalent as she takes mental notes to transfer on the paper.
Settling into a steady hum of working together, the pair take turns between the telescope and table, making light work of the night’s observations. When Lily checks her watch again, she realizes they’ve finished with time to spare. She wanders over to the railing, and even though she’s spent the better part of the last ninety minutes studying the stars, she finds herself looking up to the sky once more. Only this time, she’s stargazing with only the naked eye.
She feels James approaching before he arrives at her side, gazing up at the twinkling stars among the backdrop of black and midnight blue.
“We make a pretty good team.” Her voice is soft as it carries through the air between them.
Lily’s exhaustion is prevalent as her eyelids become heavier, but she can’t be bothered to move away from James’s side. Not yet, anyways.
“You haven’t gathered that from our flawless round schedules and seamless Prefect meetings we’ve run so far as Heads?”
Lily can’t help the smile that creeps across her lips. He’s playing into her words in the exact way she was hoping for. “Of course, I’ve noticed. I was just thinking out loud…” she trails off, hoping she’s got him hooked and wanting to know what else she’s about to say.
“About what?” Barely a second passes before the question leaves his mouth.
She drags her teeth over her bottom lip as she looks up at him. Here goes nothing.
“Just about how our teamwork might work in other respects, too.”
His lips part as she hears a sharp intake of breath. “Evans,” he warns as he inches ever closer to her face.
“Potter,” she challenges right back.
They are mere centimeters away from each other now, and it’d be so easy to close the gap between them. James seems to have frozen in front of her as she finds herself leaning up on her tiptoes to press a feather-light kiss to his lips. She pulls away, not wanting to push her luck.
When he doesn’t move after she pulls away, her heart sinks. Lily grabs her bag and turns to head back to the common room. Clearly, I was mistaken.
“Sorry, I just thought—” but she never finished her apology.
Her foot grazes the top step of the staircase before a warm, strong hand wraps around her wrist and pulls her back, where she hits a wall of muscle. Her lips are on his again, and this time he’s kissing her back as her arms snake around his shoulders and her foot lifts off the ground of its own accord.
James Potter is kissing me!
The moment only lasts a few moments before they pull apart, their breathing heavy under the starry night.
James breaks the silence after a minute. “So, er, Hogsmeade this weekend?”
Lily grins as she backs away slightly, leaving him standing there as she heads toward the stairs for the second time. She flashes a ‘come and get me’ look.
“I thought you’d never ask.”

Rewrite The Stars
Pairing: James Potter X Hufflepuff!reader
Summary: Soulmate au: wrist shows each other’s thoughts.
italics: (Y/N)’’s thoughts.
bold: James’s thoughts
PART 1
All his life James has talked to his soulmate. About everything and anything and she never failed to make him smile. He would always fall asleep to his soulmate’s random thoughts as she was somewhere trying to sleep by thinking of the most ridiculous of them.
His days always ended with a good night to his soulmate and receiving one in return, always with a promise to find each other soon.
This has been going on for a while.
The first time James promised her that he would find her was the night before his first year started at Hogwarts. He has been trying to find her ever since but nothing seems to work.
He thought to narrow down his list of potential soulmates to a house by asking her in which one she was sorted it, when a striking, agonizing pain shot through both their arms.
They couldn’t tell anything to each other that would give away their identities. James cursed nature every time when he was reminded of that.
Then in second year, James was convinced that there was only one soulmate for him.
Lily Evans.
There was no telling for sure but he definitely wanted her to be.
+++++
It was the sixth year now. James was no close to finding his soulmate and was still convinced that she was Lily Evans.
He was sitting at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall with his friends.
Remus Lupin had his head inside the latest issue of the Daily Prophet with his reading glassed perched on his nose. Peter Pettigrew was gobbling the eggs on his plate. Sirius Black was…well…sleeping.
James, however, was only staring at his flower who seemed to be in a very animated conversation about lobsters with her friends down the table.
A few tables down was the Hufflepuff table where Y/N was in a very competitive game of Exploding Snap with her best friend, Xander.
With many turns passes between them, Y/N finally rose to victory after tapping the last pair of similar cards which then exploded.
Her laugh resonated through the whole Great Hall and from the corner of her eyes, she saw Remus looking adorable with his glasses low on his nose trying to tune out a sleep talking Sirius.
As if feeling his gaze on her, his head turned to her and smiled when she immediately looked away with a blush on her face.
Y/N couldn’t deny her crush on the sandy haired Marauder.
She could only wish that he wanted her to be his soulmate as much as she wanted him to be hers.
Her eyes then travelled to the other end of the Gryffindor table where Lily and her friends were talking about lobsters.
“Do you know that if lobsters, if left undisturbed, could technically live forever? Old age doesn’t affect them at all!” beamed Lily to her friends.
Both Y/N and James heard her talk about this completely random fact and stored it for later.
+++++
The very same night, James lied on his bed and waited for his soulmate to talk to her again.
His left wrist tingled as he saw black letters appear on his skin.
Did you know that lobsters could live forever if nobody bothered them?
He grinned as his suspicions were confirmed. Lily Evans was his soulmate.
But if they never die and just keep growing, they should’ve been massive by now.
He thought back to her and waited for her reply. His skin tickled again, this time more fiercely and that’s how he knew that she had probably come up with one of her completely ridiculous theories again.
Wait…wait. If lobsters never stop growing than they probably are massive. So consider this, lobsters so old that the whole world is on their back. Yes, the tectonic plates. What if…oh!
James couldn’t hold back his laugh at this and sprung up from his four poster bed.
Oh I’m coming to get you. And you won’t be able to say no this time.
He felt his skin tingling but he was too busy getting dressed and rushing out to the girls’ dormitory. Marlene and Sirius were at the steps leading to the girls’ dormitory. They were snogging their faces off as they both subconsciously rolled their eyes at James rushing past them to Lily’s dorm.
He knocked at the dorm’s door impatient and filled to brim with excitement over finally finding his soulmate and the best part was that it was Lily.
Lily swung open the door and was met face to face with a panting James with a shit eating grin on his face.
He entered the room only to find Xander Bell sitting on her bed.
Xander stood up from the bed and smiled cautiously at James.
“James, I’m sure you’ve met Xander. We just found out two days ago we’re soulmates. Maybe now you can get off my back.”
James could only stare at Lily, his mind completely blank.
“But lobsters…” he whispered at Lily.
“What?” Lily stared at him incredulously as he rushed out of the dorm.
He stared at his wrist to find it inked with a stick figure with long noodle hair riding a very badly drawn unicorn.
He was sure Lily definitely wasn’t thinking that at the moment.

“Is it possible to love too much?” featuring deaf James, please. ♥️
also on ao3
--
“Is it possible to love too much?”
Stretched out on the couch in front of the Gryffindor common room fire, the shadows made by his fingers flickered over his face. When he finished signing the question, James let his hands fall to rest on his stomach.
Sirius blinked a few times before raising his hands from their relaxed position. He was sprawled over the squashiest of the armchairs with his legs over the arm. Anyone else might have looked foolish, but he managed to pull off a look of casual indifference.
“What do you mean?” Sirius signed back.
James didn’t notice that his gaze drifted across the common room until they caught a flash of dark red hair.
Quickly, he looked back to his best mate.
“Nothing,” he answered, the sign a short jab.
The eye roll from Sirius confirmed that he didn’t miss it.
“You’re pining,” Sirius pointed out.
“I’m relaxing,” James countered. For effect, he shifted and flopped back on the couch again.
“I can hear your brain spinning. Go talk to her.”
“I can’t just -”
James scrambled into a sitting position when Sirius looked away from his hands.
“ - interrupting something?”
Though he couldn’t hear the full sentence, James caught the end of the words on her lips when he became aware of another person in their space.
He could nearly feel his face heating when he realized the lips he was trying to read belonged to the girl who had his attention only a moment or so before.
Automatically, his hands went to his hair, trying to work out some of the trapped energy. It was always like this when Lily Evans was around. He wanted to say so many things at once that his hands needed something to do to keep them from forming the wrong words.
He had a particularly bad habit of saying exactly the wrong thing around her.
“No, not interrupting,” he answered, also shaking his head. James waved toward Sirius dismissively and tried to turn his embarrassment into a charming smile. “What is it?”
“Are you busy this Friday?”
James couldn’t help but notice the way her fingers didn’t hesitate over the signs anymore. She signed the sentence together and didn’t have to pause to structure her question. Her fingers moved quickly, like the signs were truly a second language instead of a halting thing she did.
He still remembered third year, when she would stumble through a series of creative insults, her brow knitted. When he pointed out a minor error, her ears would turn red and her eyes would crackle like a fire that was about to spread.
He couldn’t help but goad her a little.
“No,” James answered again, ignoring whatever Sirius was trying to sign to him behind Lily’s back. “What’s on Friday?”
“Rounds.” Lily rolled her eyes, but unlike the one from Sirius, this one suggested they were in on the same joke. “Rumor is there might be a pre-game for the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw match on Saturday. Mind helping me make sure it stays under control?”
James swallowed.
It was just rounds, he told himself.
Rounds, which meant at least an hour of walking around the castle with Lily.
Alone.
The twist at the corner of her mouth was almost a smirk. They both remembered what happened the last time they were alone.
He knew what he had been trying to ask Sirius without providing all of the relevant details.
“I’ll be there,” James signed back, managing a grin.
She met it with one of her own. The angle where she stood meant that he wasn’t sure if Sirius could see it. James couldn’t decide whether he wanted Sirius to understand her expression.
He distinctly wished everyone else wasn’t around just this moment.
“Thanks!” Lily signed quickly, beaming. “I’ll see you then.” She spared a lazy wave over her shoulder to Sirius before she jogged away to go back to her friends on the other side of the common room.
A raised brow greeted James when he looked back over to Sirius.
“You were saying?” Sirius signed with a definite smirk.
“Shut it,” James signed, heart still racing.
He couldn’t wait for Friday.

~~~
As if he wasn’t infamous enough because of the Marauders, Sirius Black was the talk of Gryffindor tower. Normally, your year would be following the ever-changing drama of James Potter and Lily Evans, but today, the dark horse of the Marauders was the center of attention. Whispered rumors floated around everywhere he went.
Okay, so maybe Sirius had put himself in the situation. He had been the dumper this time, breaking Eleanor Richards’ heart. In the eyes of the Marauders, it had been the right decision. Eleanor had been caught saying something awful about Remus, which had been the primary reason Sirius had broken up with her.
“You’re really going to break up with me because of that?” Eleanor had exclaimed that morning. “It was just a joke-”
“Even if it was just a joke, no one talks about my friends like that.” Sirius had shaken his head.
“You’d rather choose your friends over me?”
Sirius looked at her dead in the eyes. “I’d choose them over anyone else.” Eleanor had stormed off after that. The rumor mill spun quickly. By lunch, everyone in Gryffindor knew what happened.
He couldn’t study in the common room. Normally, he’d be with the other Marauders, but he had told them he needed to be alone for the day. Reluctantly, they’d agreed, giving him his space.
This is how he ended up in the library. The whispers and rumors followed him, until he found a small table in the back corner. You were there, but unlike the others, you didn’t glare at him. Instead, your eyes stayed on your Transfiguration book.
When you felt his presence, you spoke. “You can take the seat, if you’d like.” You said quietly, never taking your eyes off of the book.
“Thanks. I’m Sirius, what’s your name?” He stepped forward and took a seat at the table.
“(Y/N).”
“What year are you?”
“Same as you.”
Internally, Sirius cringed. He knew you looked familiar, but he never paid attention to many people outside of the Gryffindor house. “Right.”
There was a moment of silence before you spoke again. “So, where are your friends?”
“It’s just me today, unfortunately.” You looked up at him, a wry smile on your face.
“I wouldn’t call it unfortunate. And your girlfriend?”
“Ex.” Sirius corrected, not sure if he should give up on studying in the library.
“Ouch.” You remarked, returning to your book.
Sirius looked at you. For a Hufflepuff, you were pretty snarky. Up until now, he had thought that Hufflepuffs were quiet, kind people. Not that you weren’t kind, but he wasn’t sure what to think of you. Everything about you stunned him, in the best way possible.
You caught him staring, then sighed, shutting the book. You were ahead in Transfiguration anyways. “Are you gonna do any work, pretty boy, or are you gonna keep looking at me like that?”
“Like what?”
You snorted. “Like I’m about to give you the best goddamn gift in the world.”
~~~
After that day, the two of you started meeting in the library every night. Some nights, you’d talk, but others, you sat in a comforting silence.
One evening, Sirius appeared with the other Marauders. “They wanted to see where I was sneaking off to,” He said with a sheepish smile on his face.
“We’ll need a bigger table, then.” You magically extended the table and waved your wand, bringing out three more chairs. “We should be quiet, though. Madam Pince may like me, but I’d rather not be kicked out with you lot.”
“You’re a Hufflepuff?”
“What do you want to do after Hogwarts?”
“Do you like Sirius?” The three boys all stumbled over each other, blurting out questions. You laughed and answered whatever they threw at you with ease, almost as if you knew the questions before they even asked.
And so the rest of the Marauders started crashing your library dates, eventually bringing along Lily Evans as she and James got closer. You started hanging out with them all the time, much to the disdain of Eleanor.
She’d seen you laughing with them down the halls, and even though Sirius had made it clear that he did not like Eleanor, she didn’t want you to have him. In her opinion, he had gotten over her so quickly that she suspected he cheated on her with you.
She resolved to corner you in the afternoon, while you were on your way to the Black Lake. Initially, you brushed past her, but she grabbed hold of your arm.
“Can we talk?” She said. You looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
You’d seen Eleanor around the castle and with Sirius before the breakup, but if you were being honest, you had never spoken a word to her. You weren’t sure what she wanted as she dragged you to the side of the corridor.
Sirius had told you about the breakup, but you hadn’t expected this from Eleanor. Of course, anyone in love can be driven crazy after heartbreak. You knew that.
“Listen to me very carefully. Sirius is mine. We’re just taking a little break right now, but he’s mine.” She practically growled. “And no little Hufflepuff is going to stand in the way of us.”
You nearly laughed, but instead you stepped closer. “Let me ask you something.” You said, getting close to her face. “When you were dating Sirius, did you ever talk to his friends?”
“That’s not any of your business-”
“No, right?” You said, stepping forward again. She took a step back. “Because if you had, you would know that Sirius puts his friends before any girl, or any partner. So if they don’t like you, you’re out.” You repeated the action, making her take another step back.
“See, the thing is, they’re not hard to get along with. Sure, they may make stupid decisions, but they’re loyal as hell, and their hearts are always in the right place. They look out for their own.”
“You’re not his friend, you’re just a silly little play thing for him. Soon enough he’ll come back to me.” She sneered, and this time you laughed.
“Sweetheart, you’re delusional. Don’t you understand that by pulling this shit, you’ve really just confirmed your spot on his “Never Again” list?” You smiled sweetly at her. “If I were you, I’d stop making a fool out of yourself.”
By now, the others had wondered what was taking you so long. They found you in the corridor with Eleanor. But before Sirius could step in, James pulled him back, and they watched carefully.
You started to walk away when you heard Eleanor whisper, “Ventus.”
Before the curse could hit you, Sirius ran forward. “Protego!” He said, the magical shield coming up just in time.
Eleanor’s eyes widened as she watched the spell dissipate in the air.
“Aim at (Y/N) again, and next time you won’t be so lucky.” He growled, and the others stepped forward.
“We broke up already, Eleanor. You don’t get to hurt my friends.”
Too scared to go against two witches and four wizards, Eleanor scurried off, presumably to change the story so that she could call herself the victim. You and the others went to sit on the lawn of the Black Lake, enjoying the little sunlight that was rare in Northern England.
“Thank you, for earlier.” You mumbled while the others were distracted. “I don’t know what would’ve happened if that jinx had landed.”
Sirius tugged you closer. “Does this mean you’ll let me take you out on a date as repayment?”
You chuckled, pecking his cheek. “I’d do it even if I didn’t owe you.” He grinned, meeting his lips with yours. Everything about him was warm, and after you pulled away, you only wanted to kiss him again.
“Oi, stop snogging! There are children present!” James yelled, putting his hands over Peter’s eyes. The two of you only laughed.
