Inescapable. No Rules, No Rescue - My version
I saw Viveros's video about this game (Inescapable Is The Worst Game I've Ever Played & I'm Making That Your Problem Now) and I started to brainstorm how this characters could shine or be more interesting, in my opinion.
youtube
I came up with these ideas for the characters.
Harrison Finn Tailor
- A British Bus Driver. He is socially awkward yet gentle and polite, something that wouldn't change much depending on the routes. As the days pass by and he interacts with others on the island, he'll get more out of his shell and form friendships with the other contestants.
- He joined the competition so he would be able to move from his shitty home in one of the worst neighborhoods in London.
Maria Strauss
- A German Programmer who works from home to take care of her little siblings. She is bubbly and sociable, the opposite of Harrison, and cares deeply for others as an older sister would.
- She joined the show so she would be able to move out of her abusive household with her little siblings.
Annika Eklund
- A Swedish House Maid. A kind, sweet yet somewhat dumb girl (Think Lindsay from Total Drama). She finds great pleasure in taking care of others and finds most household chores as entertaining and relaxing. She is very strong yet won't use her strength unless absolutely necessary.
- She joined Inescapable so she would have enough funds to sue one of her clients for sexual harassment.
Daan Zoetemelk
- A Dutch Professional Biker Athlete. On the outside, he is very outgoing and positive and somewhat dumb. However, he tends to be very cold and cruel when it comes to anyone standing in his way or interrupting his plans, often thinking of very harsh decisions or solutions to simple problems.
- He joined the competition so he would have enough money to settle a case in which he brutally and 'accidentally' broke both of his competitor's legs who won first place in the last race he was in.
Eva Tamm
- A Estonian Social Media Influencer. She became viral thanks to her meme and since then has been addicted to the spotlight that came with it. She loves being the center of attention (so she won't be 'forgotten'), and it's a complete social butterfly to everyone around her.
- She joined the show, so she'll have enough funds to start her new life as a professional social media influencer.
Francisca Carrasco
- A Portuguese Mechanic. She is a single mother who takes no shits from anybody and is very confident and proud of her job skills. She cares deeply for her family, especially her little daughter, and is fiercely protective of anyone she considers close.
- Joined Inescapable so she would have enough money to provide a better life for her child.
Giovanni Lombardi
- An Italian 'Businessman'. A devoted Catholic who has very progressive ideals and worldviews. He is a passionate feminist, LGBTQ+ ally, and a kind gentleman who would never dare to hurt a fly unless it was for self-defense. He is a loving father and husband to his nuclear family. However, his relationship with the rest of his family is very strained.
- Joined Inescapable to get his family out of poverty after some of his failed 'business' ventures caused his family to fall into debt.
Valérie D'Orléans
- A French Heiress. She is the youngest child and the least possible heir to her family's business empire. Outshined by her talented sisters and brothers, she feels extremely inferior in her family full of geniuses and forces herself to appear confident and proud of her abilities in order to protect herself from other's scorn and ridicule.
- She joined the competition, so she'll become an independent entrepreneur to show her capabilities as a leader and prove to her family that she is a capable woman.
Sasha Smith
- A Hacker and Enginner from an unknown origin? It's difficult to tell whether their words are lies or the truth, for they mastered the art of lying to protect themselves.
- They joined the show to get a new identity after a nasty accident from their last 'gig'.
Lumi Ndiaye
- A Finnish Chemist. She is very introverted and somewhat emotionless. Some of it comes from horrible racism she suffered as a black woman. She is very close to her family and is a very passionate activist for equality of races.
- She joined Inescapable to create a charity to fight against discrimination in Finland.
Isak Ringvold
- A Norwegian Jeweler. Born into an affluent family of professional jewelers and with a natural talent for jewel crafting and design, Isak came to hate his gift due to the extreme pressures from his family and social circles to continue his family's traditions. It's been years since he ran away from his home to partake in his dream for acting in professional plays, for he loves the exaggerated and dramatic personalities he has observed on the very scarce free time he had before he fled.
- He joined the show so he would be able to fund his studies in acting and eventually debut as a professional actor.

Note
the walk back to the base was quiet, except for the faint crunch of gravel under Giovanni's white but now slightly worn and dirty shoes. Though his pace was unhurried, his thoughts raced. Lime had sounded...off. gio wouldn't admit to outright worry...such things didn’t suit a man of his stature...but the boy had a way of pulling at his carefully guarded emotions
Arriving at his studio, Gio opened the door to his office, seeing the boy taking refuge there for a while. It was modest for an office...barely enough room for his sleek mahogany desk and the shelves crammed with books, magazines, and scripts. yet the atmosphere here always carried a sense of focus and a hint of minimalism compared to the hoarded messy studio.
he paused for a moment, his gaze sweeping over the room. noticing lime himself and the shelf beside him, its contents slightly askew. a scrap of paper poking out from between two well-worn volumes. a note he always kept but never bothered to check or remember. He made a note to himself to throw it away later. For now, his focus remained on Lime
"You called? Figlio mio, I thought you’d be back at the base by now. It’s late, a bit too late. You're going to lose sleep I swear- almost everyone has gone home already. What are you still doing out here? Dio santo, you’ll catch your death wandering around at this hour! tell me, is something wrong?"
@silent-grn-snake
Lime perked up, obviously relieved that gio came back, i mean, he actually came back! He wiped his eyes and nose before speaking, making sure he didnt look like he was crying. Psh, hed never cry! Eva!
Aaay, big man himself, Lime cleared his throat, so he sounds better Nothins wrong, er.. just bored? i think, or sumthin.. Uh, Im here cause ya told me too and i didnt wanna make ya upset..
He stood up, and brushed himself off
Well, I'll get goin now... i guess, uh, Cya later spy!

any advice/book recs for getting out of a slump
hi!! i am currently also in a reading slump and have been for the last few months starting back at uni aha but in terms for getting out of one id recommend starting with short, easy reads. the point of reading obviously is not to just say youve finished a ton of books but i think that the sense of completion that comes when you finish a book can help get you back into reading and obviously its quicker + easier to get that with a small book rather than to try and get back into reading with a really heavy dense read where theres no end in sight and youre much more likely to give up...so yah! short easy reads id say stuff that makes you happy maybe guilty pleasurish reads..and then once youve got through a few it might feel less draining to start a longer one. as for specific recs here are some books under 200 pages that i love:
anything by claire keegan! specifically small things like these, foster, walk the blue fields and antarctica (two short story collections).
bonjour tristesse by francoise sagan.
boulder by eva baltasar.
franny and zooey by jd salinger.
we have always lived in the castle by shirley jackson.
giovanni's room + if beale street could talk by james baldwin.
the passion by jeanette winterson.
panenka by ronan hession.
the archive of alternate endings by lindsey drager.
kick the latch by kathryn scanlan.
a single man by christopher isherwood.
swimming in the dark by tomasz jedrowski.
all quiet on the western front by erich maria remarque (just over 200 technically but i love it so bad...)
hope you find something you love bab!

Thing about Reverse 1999 is that occasionally I'll learn about an interesting event that happened in history and if suitably appliable, my first thought will be "Damn they should make an R1999 event inspired by it".
In somecases, I have solid material to work, like once I thought up an hypothetic event with "Murder mystery and investigation of the death of a renowned ballerina in 1870's Milan, with characters inspired by the hallmarks of the literary movement of scapigliatura" (The murder of the ballerina is meant to be a symbolic reference to Eva by Giovanni Verga, which I've only ever read the preface of in school, but it sets so many "core points" which I liked) (The event is set in the 19th century though so lol likely won't ever happen)
Then I get absolutely borderline comedicly shitposty like "Event inspired by the Moberly-Jourdain case"

How would Alice be translated to the art of musicals and puppetry? Her storyline was one of the most impactful parts of the game after all.
Again as far as official story goes I hadn't written a script so that would have to be something considered if it ever got to stage officially. Like I mentioned in the super long post a little ways back a big pitfall of 2.5D theatre is having to cut down stories so I would have to figure out an efficient way to intertwine all of the stories whilst allowing for time to 'rest' or 'linger' on poignant moments.
As far as puppets go, however, I have a more concrete answer:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alice is such a warm and charming character, her quest line with the orchards is one of my favourites- I know its not super complex but it's just nice and cosy. she's a very comforting presence to have on the ship. And since she's an older lady I wanted to capture that charm in her designed as a puppet very similar to Giovanni and Astrid's puppets but taking an element from traditional wooden toys. Her internal design was supposed to be similar to a wooden toy, the type that you roll along the floor to make her paws move. But similar to Giovanni and Astrid she would have a secondary function where her upper half can be lifted up and moved by hand.
A big part of my puppet design was intertwined with the costume design of the puppeteer (my dissertation was basically based on this idea lol) so you really got to see the human element of the person as Stella knew them in life not just the fantasy of the puppet on stage. I know it might not be the most feasible but because of that I thought it would be nice to have Alice be puppeteered by an older actor too so accessibility was a very important to me in the design. Having her be easier to move and less complicated mechanically was the goal so it wouldn't be too taxing to control her. I relate to this too and fell a bit into this pit fall with Gwen- she was designed to be moved by a 5"6 dancer but neither of us were available to film in the studio for this so I had to film with her :') Turns out HEDS does not mix well with heavy puppets so my mom ended up having to step in for that (who is much shorter than either me or Chloe lol).
So going forwards, if I were to elaborate on these puppets and their designs I think it would be really important to take into account material weight and how that interacts with the design.
Two puppeteers I was looking at were Toby Olie (my favourite puppet designer :3 ) and Barnaby Dixon who mostly makes very small single hand puppets but I was fortunate enough to see a showing of The Book of Dust were he designed the Daemon puppets:
Tumblr media
Ideally I would want to something like this but with material rather than paper, EVA makes quite an effective skeleton too so It would just be figuring out the mechanics with the chosen materials.
Tumblr media
^ This is Toby Olie's stuff, he's done a lot more but his animal designs are my favourite.
