Controversial protagonist of Italian art after the Second World War, he used various techniques and defined himself as a painter, sculptor, philosopher and architect. His work tends to become independent of both fashions and neo-avant-garde groups. Therefore, it cannot be framed in a specific artistic current: neither in Arte Povera, nor in the Transavanguardia, nor in the conceptual art, which rejected.
He surrounded himself with an aura of mystery and unavailability, savoring both exhibitions and public appearances. His reputation developed as much out of an absence as from a presence: he avoided the press and refused to have any of his works reproduced photographically.

Do you have a favorite piece of art?
This is possibly the hardest question anyone could ever ask me and I don't think I've ever answered it in the same way twice. Right now...I think it's Calamita Cosmica by Gino de Dominicis. Ask me again in five minutes and it's likely to have changed again

Gino De Dominicis (1947 - 1998) was an Italian artist.
He was a controversial protagonist of post-war Italian art, he used various techniques and defined himself as a painter, sculptor, philosopher and architect. His work was independent of fashions and neo-avant-garde groups, he cannot be placed into a precise artistic group: he didn't belong to Arte Povera, Transavantgarde or Conceptual Art, which he often mocked.
He wanted to be as far as possible from the contemporary art world, therefor he surrounded himself with an aura of mystery and unavailability, reducing exhibitions and public appearances and opposing publication of catalogs or books on his works, he also rejected all marketing and advertising.
