There’s a lot of weird things about Etho — it’s something everyone knows, most of them just don’t know the reasons.

Only a few people have ever seen Etho without his mask, one of which was Bdubs, who had given up on asking about it long before Etho showed him. He doesn’t have a mouth, just a gaping hole with a single speck of light inside. If you were to look too closely you might notice it watching you.

Then there’s Etho’s scar, which sometimes doesn’t even seem attached to his face. If he were to cover it with his hand you’d still be able to see it, as if there’s nothing obstructing it. It doesn’t work like that if someone else were to try covering it.

There are also a few who have wandered a bit too far into Etho’s builds and found themselves in a world they didn’t recognize, standing in front of a piston door built into the side of a hill. The door opens into long, twisting hallways full of strange sounds and objects. It’s easy to get lost in there, and the only unique room is lined with doors, each leading to something new.

One has a pink Wither that has only ever been seen in dreams; one is filled with lava, diamonds dropping down into it from the ceiling; and one door leads into more halls, but they’re smaller, and they’re the home to Etho. Many Ethos, all with blank, white-eyed stares. Some hold pages ripped from their books, the text garbled and corrupted.

If you’re unlucky enough, one might follow you home. These Ethos were not meant to exist, especially not outside their mazes. They can only speak in a handful of set phrases, only being able to follow the script they have corrupted beyond recognition.

That’s where Gem got the creature inside her secret lab. She managed to trap it after it followed her out of the labyrinth, and put it into a test tube to be studied. Etho knows, there’s not a way he can’t, but he ignores it. The scripts are long in his past, and the ERROR 404: Description not found — they were meant to be forgotten.

In one the AMA with the writers from Arcane (I think it was Christian Linke but I'm not sure), said that one of the keys to building their characters respective narrative arcs was to "forcing them to make an impossible choice between two things they can't sacrifice" (for example, Silco having to pick between Jinx and Zaun; Marcus choice between protecting his daughter and keeping the peace between the cities vs exposing himself; Vi between Cait and Jinx)

Makes me wonder, what is going to be the "impossible choice" for Viktor and Jayce next season? 🤔🤔

I think Viktor kinda sorta already faced it. Or the beginning of it, anyway. The first choice—to die. To give up fighting. To lose everything. To leave this world before he made a mark on it, helped the people he set out to help. Or to survive his terminal illness, take back control, but with the knowledge that he cost Sky her life, and in so doing made the one critical error he never meant to make. To quote Heimerdinger himself, “no great science should ever put lives in danger.” He would always know that, in order to live, he had to sacrifice the very foundation of who he is—“to improve lives, not to take them.”

And we saw him choose option 3. Death, on his own terms. But Jayce stopped him, and I think it’s only going to lead to more destruction of Viktor’s psyche. He’s going to lose everything, possibly be banished by his lover only friend. And I think the ensuing rage and grief will swing him to choose the other option; life, on his own terms. Life that makes him sacrifice who he is. But at that point, I think he’s going to realize that who he was… is already dead. He already lost everything. So taking that final step toward becoming the Machine Herald won’t even be a hard one.

And as for Jayce, I really do think it’s going to revolve around Viktor. What Viktor did will likely come to light—his self-experimentation (which I foresee them calling ‘mutilation’), drug smuggling, and the subsequent killing of Sky. It’s a violation of their ethos, and in the wake of Jinx’s attack, what remains of the council will want their pound of flesh. And I’m assuming Jayce will still be the de-facto head of the council, so it’ll all come down to him.

I don’t think Piltover has a death penalty… so the options will likely be Stillwater Prison or banishment. But Viktor has a lot of knowledge of Hextech, knowledge that I foresee the council wanting to keep out of Zaun. So they will all lean for Stillwater. But Jayce still cares about Viktor, he understands why he did what he did, even if he doesn’t condone it. He wants to protect Viktor, wants to give him a chance. And this leaves him with an impossible choice—send his lover partner to Stillwater Prison, where he will suffer before eventually dying in there, locked away and all alone. Or… banishment. Equally grim, but Zaun is resourceful, they have Chemtech and body mods… maybe someone can help him, maybe someone can save him.

So he banishes his lover best friend.

But I do have a theory on this—Viktor will know how this judgement is going to play out long before the verdict. He knows the council, and… he knows Jayce. He’s seen how Jayce bends to them, how he allows himself to be cowed and corrupted by the pressure. And unfortunately, he’s seen how wrong he was to think “Jayce will understand.”

So he will probably sneak into the lab, steal the Hexclaw and the Hexcore, and leave for Zaun of his own volition. If he can’t trust his partner and lover best friend, then he can trust only one person. Himself.

AU BATTLE TIME dirges crew vs fallout crew

This isn't one of the 100-500 word ficlet prompts but I cannot stop thinking about how distinct the home court advantages of these two crews are.

If Dirges crew set foot in the Fallout setting they would spontaneously combust because of the radiation poisoning just... present in the air. There was 0 radiation in the air during the 1800s. (there was radiation, obviously, please see the radium girls and uranium glass, but there's a reason we can find forgeries painted after the 1940s with specific tests). The Fallout Crew got frog-boiled, and even the non-radioactive areas have radiation.

But if the Fallout crew ended up in Del Sombra, they would be vaporized the second one of them even sort of made a move towards violence.

So I guess the best answer is, if they both ended up in a completely neutral ground, like some kind of arena a la the M9 v. VM battle oneshot, there would be a couple of really interesting determining factors on either side (More under the cut lol)

On the side of the Dirges Crew we've got their heavy hitters:

Del Sombra/Grian: hindered by the fact that she's more or less trapped in a mortal body and outside of her direct sphere of influence

[Redacted] and Tango, but Tango's given up his scythes to Pearl, and is actually mostly mortal at this point. All he's really got going for him is chutzpah and grit (and explosives). [Redacted] can stand his own though.

But shockingly, as you pointed out not too long ago, the biggest dog in this fight is actually False. It really is a "You have rad-x, 275lbs of explosives, and power armor, but we have a False," and none of that will make sense to anyone for a very very long time because I write so so sooooo slowly I'm sorry guys.

But on the Fallout Crew side, their heavy hitters are:

Jimmy: Who was literally engineered in a lab vault to be good at hyper-perceptive and good at combat. Sorry about that semi-constant overstimulation though, bud.

Tango: who now owns 100% of the Powder Ganger's stock of explosives and is only hindered by carrying capacity (200lbs is based on my vague recollection of what the FNV companions can carry lol)

Impulse: and his power armor.

Skizz: and his power armor.

Etho: and, uh, everything that he's got in his silly little bunker in the desert.

Also, Etho's car. (After Wild Life, it is SO funny to me that we gave Etho the Last Working Car in existence. Truly the Boat Boys hit us with that clairvoyance beam. They get to be antagonistic buddies in this au now, I say so.)

Oh, yeah, (<- pretending that I forgot and haven't been chomping at the bit to write about Fallout AU Gem) and Gem, who, let's be honest, is their dark horse in this fight. Between her ability to survive and her ability to fight, I think it's even odds that she can hold her own against several members of the Dirges crew, especially if she gets in close.

And look, if Dirges!Pearl can get [Very Redacted] to care about the fight, then it's all over for the fallout crew, but otherwise, I think the fallout crew comes out on top, based on numbers, tactical knowledge, and the fact that they've got Mr. "I was raised on simulations and so many gene mods" leading them. Falsie puts up a good fight, but her body is not made to go up against power armor. On the plus side, she'd finally get to figure out if she can... go home.

I shall be info dumping you with my hermittale au, oh also have some fun facts, (oh God, this is gonna bite me in the butt one day) I'm sorry mod.

Most of the the monsters in the underground are either hybrids or full monsters. There's no in between.

All of the hermits (minus the humans) have met each other at one point, so they aren't complete strangers to each other.

Decided that Temmie Village is gonna be full of the hermits's (and maybe some other MCYTs) pets.

I think the hermittale au have at least 8 chapters? So yeah, this is gonna be a long ride lmao

Since Undertale has a lot of side characters, I decided to throw in some other MCYTs as well, cause apparently I like hurting myself this way

A tiny bit of the things that happen in the au that changed from canon Undertale (like, the B. Cin pie will be chanaged to cinnamon rolls and conversations) is just me throwing refrences about some of my irl needs or things that happened to me irl,

The true lab chapter and the waterfall chapter are what I'm excited for the most. I have big ideas for those chapters.

Okay maybe I lied to you a little bit in the first part I guess, okay maybe some of the monster hermits are dead. I mean, who knows. I could be lying right now.

Tiny bits of the au I've actually planned out (since the idea came to me in like February 2020) but most of the ideas I made up out of the blue, which could mess up lmao

The au is interactive! It's not 100% dependent on with the interactions of xB (or anyone) with the askers, but I really really like idea of the askers predicting something that's gonna happen in the future or send in asks about Undertale itself. So I made it an interactive story :]

Some of the hermits are gonna be like guides in a specific chapter! Like, an example that might not be 100% is Etho being the guide for snowdin!

Half of the conversation xB has with the monsters is him being a gen Z kid and the monsters (+ past fallen humans) not having any fucking idea on what he's talking about

Echo flowers are gonna be the main backstory for the 'dead' monster hermits and human hermits

I'm still undecided if team ZIT + 3/4 of NHO are gonna know each other or not

Each human soul has some sort of power they can use example: a human that posses the kindness soul can heal people. And of course, monsters have their own magic as well.

Hmm I have some ideas of some magic traits the hermits should have:

Etho: I think he should have snow forming and push powers. As it would be useful for the sort of climate he lives in. He could help with the snowball soul game (I forgot the name).

Bdubs: I feel like he should have healing and rest powers that can change your soul and weaken you, maybe something to do with patience, dignity or kindness, im pretty sure some monsters have abillities linked to souls like papyrus has dignity based powers (I think?? Its been a while)

Doc: definitly something similar to undynes powers (obviously). For example maybe shooting trydants at you.

Tango: slowing and speeding up things with those orange and cyan soul traits. Kinda like what mettaton did.

-The most flexible member of 79-C, though Amaterasu keeps trying to outperform them.

Malcom:

-Has perfected the art of telling ghost stories from years of sitting around the campfire with his scout squad

-Struggles asking for help since his 'thing' is his relentless optimism that a lot of people find comfort in. Feels a certain pressure to keep things light for the sake of his friends.

Maverick:

-Has an alphabetised list of ways he wants to enact revenge on Enoshima and has had at-length discussions about how possible they are with other Despairs who only follow her for her power.

-Favourite Disney character is Mother Gothel. Gaslighting duo.

Miru:

-Causes at least 2 fires a month from experiments that she's not allowed anywhere near a lab without at least two fire extinguishers

-Master of card games and constantly challenges other base members to games

Ethos:
