once again regarding the "rich men are rich men" discussion. how do you manage to separate that from your enjoyment of the sport bc im really struggling with that at the moment. i LOVE the sport in and of itself. it's so fun! but everything else from the ethics to the drivers being these unbearably rich people to the corruptness of the organisation that is the fia just stands in complete contrast to my own values and political opinions.
I joke "the rpf is payback" but honestly the rpf helps a lot when it comes to the drivers' at least. I don't emotionally care who or what Charles does in his free time when I'm too busy mpregging him on tumblr dot com and it means my emotional energy is freed up to just enjoy when he wins.
Unfortunately, unbearable rich people exist in most entertainment (except quite probably literally fanfiction! hence why it's a pastime that needs to be nurtured and a community that's kept alive and most crucially unmonetised. Stop buying bound fanfic). I struggle a lot with the ethics, they race in countries which I know I could just never visit because of who I am. I struggle a lot with the open secret that these people are complicit in the exploitation of young women but these are issues in the structure of our patriarchal global society and aren't just unique to F1. I think F1 is more prone to it than other sports because a. these young boys are exploited from so young they're more likely to be around adults growing up who endorse this kind of lifestyle and b. the nature of it is flashy and expensive and with more money comes more freedom to do fucked up things. But I struggle with it too anon, day in and day out and I run a BLOG dedicated to the sport. The RPF does seriously help in a meta way, but also because it helps me consume content related to the hyperfixation which is a. written by women/queer people that fundamentally exist outside of the patriarchal norm and b. I know my time and attention won't result in any revenue for these people. I refuse to buy merch anymore, I pay for F1TV because I'm often watching at work but I encourage people to illegally stream.
It's a tough line to walk though, and I think that this is an ongoing conversation which is important to have on here!

Summary: max defends his girlfriend and gets into trouble

y/n had been a fan of formula one since she was a child. every parental figure in her life had been a fan of the sport, so it was natural and she got into it too. thankfully, it also made her realise very quickly in life that she wanted to work in the field of motorsports. she wasn't sure yet, and she was still working her way to getting into the sport, but it was a sure, clear path for her.
after meeting max, and falling in love with him, everything had changed. her family approved of the two of them, obviously, and so had his, though she hadn't cared much about jos' opinion. y/n made it clear in the beginning that she wanted to work in motorsports and she wanted to earn her place. she refused to let max talk her up or anything, because he was the kind of guy who would do just that for his girlfriend. max agreed, and promised to keep their relationship private for as long as she wanted.
it had taken her a few years. she bounced from indycar to motorgp to nascar and eventually made her way to f1 as a journalist. she had gained far more experience than she would've gotten if she had only focused on formula one, and she was confident in her abilities to finally be formula one.
max and her had stayed strong throughout, even if they kept their relationship private. she had met and become friends with daniel, lando, carlos, and all of max's friends. they often played padel together as well. mix the competitive spirits that max and she possessed, it was always fun.
after a year of being in formula one as a journalist, max and y/n had decided that it was time to stop hiding. they skipped the soft launch part, and jumped directly into the hard launch phase that left a lot of fans shook.
unfortunately, it also got her a lot of hate. y/n went from being one of the best journalists in f1 to one of the most hated ones for the same reasons that she was loved. the fans adored her because she was a woman of colour making a name for herself in such a sport, and that her parents had sacrificed a lot for her and she was making them proud. now, she was hated because her success became max's story and how he put in good words for her and how she was only with him for the money.
it broke her heart, but max was someone who had received a lot of hate before in his life, so he taught her all the ways to ignore the comments and focus on what she did best. it helped a great deal, but it also made her determined to prove that her career had nothing to do with max.
it was getting better, slowly and over time. max and y/n promised to never lose their temper on the comments. a lot of interviewers and fans had also asked the other drivers on the grid to comment on their relationship, asking if it was ethical for a journalist and a driver to date. but the other drivers always responded with the same thing, always saying how they've known max and y/n for a long time, and their relationship was no one else's business.
unfortunately, after a particularly hard race, max finally lost his cool.
"well, max, it's safe to say that this particular race of yours wasn't the best that you've performed. what do you have to say about that?"
"uh, nothing, really. we just didn't have the pace, and with some mistakes on my side, i lost a lot of points. but, i'm sure we can cover it up next race." max replied.
"you don't have to worry about us writing a bad article about you. your girlfriend and we will only be writing praises, don't you worry. the only difference would be that we won't take your hard earned money like she does," the interviewer laughed, nudging y/n.
the cameras were all focused on them, there were fans nearby, and other drivers. everyone was watching. it was live tv. the entire world was watching. the thick crowd of an audience had their gaze fixed on y/n, and all she could do in that moment was hang her head and try not to cry.
that's the moment max lost his cool. y/n was standing right there, and the interviewer had disrespected her on a very public platform.
"actually, my girlfriend will always tell me what i need to hear, whether it's good or bad. y/n y/l/n, a well known journalist, who is also standing right there with you, will write exactly what happened on track, because that's the part that she reports on. she made her own career, so fuck you for dismissing all of it." max bursted, before he stormed off.
the interviewer was spluttering, not sure how to react, but completely outraged as he forced the fia to take actions on max's outburst. y/n slipped away silently, needing to go back to max.
later on, the fia decided to punish max for using "language during the fia sunday press conference". their decision: obligation to accomplish some work of public interest.
later, an interviewer asked him if he regretted his decision of defending his girlfriend and getting a punishment, max responded, “no.”
“so, what do you think of the punishment given to you? do you think it’s fair?”
“no words.”

˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆ series will contain the following kinks. Objectification. Somnophilia. Pet play (this is a hybrid!au). Dacryphila. Spanking. Orgasm control/denial. Exhibitionism. Mixopilia. ⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚
Summary: In a world where hybrids are second-class citizens, you struggle with the fact that you're on your last chance at being owned. Your new owner is clearly excited to have you, but the gag is that you're an F1 cat hybrid, and your wild side is hard to tame.
Tumblr media
Kyle was counting down the minutes until he could leave work for the day and get home to welcome his new pet. It was a long and tedious process to get cleared for a hybrid, and he knew he wanted the companionship after working with Ghost and his military grade hybrid Soap. He had watched those two out in the field and had seen them in private. Practically joined at the hip, the hyperactive golden shepherd was known for his loyalty and work ethic, and when he wasn't up under Simon, he was begging to play with Kyle.
And while Kyle adored Soap and appreciated his companionship, he wanted his own little hybrid. Something loyal, sweet, energetic, smart, and could be trained easily enough.
There's a process when getting approved for owning a hybrid legally. You have to do interviews, your home has to be inspected, and then you get to view the ones available. He knew he didn't want a young hybrid. The idea of separating a young hybrid from their dam didn't sit right. He also didn't want the trouble of housebreaking a little hybrid. He had looked high and low, sure he was going to get a dog hybrid, maybe a female, so he could try and convince Simon to let him breed Soap with her.
What he found, however, was a gorgeous Serval mix. First generation, certified pure, dam is a wild serval hybrid and sire a main coon hybrid. Suddenly he didn't want a dog hybrid, he wanted the challenge of a pretty kitty that would have a wild streak. He read her profile, smart, mostly even tempered, recommended for owners who are experienced in training F1 hybrids.
Kyle thought about his time with Simon and Soap, and he had watched those two teach other handlers and hybrids how to work together. He himself has often assisted in these training sessions. So, in theory, it shouldn't be that hard if he has Simon for help.
Kyle was busy finishing up his reports for the last mission they all went on, and he was just about ready to run home. The door to the office opened up, and Soap had practically jumped him. His ears tipped forward, tail wagging so fast that he was vibrating. He licked and kissed all over his face, drawing laughter from Kyle.
“Down Soap.” Simon stood in the doorway, arms crossed as he watched his partner jump Kyle.
“He's fine.” Kyle said as he scratched the pup between his ears.
“Yeah Si, I'm fine!” Soap smiled, “This is mah last day gettin’ Gaz to mah self.” He whined just a bit.
“You act like I'm abandoning you.” He rolled his eyes with a smile.
“Ye might as well! Wot if tha other pup is cuter than me and ye like ‘em more?” He nosed at Kyle's cheek, a pout on his face.
“Well one…she's a cat.”
This made both Simon and Soap pause. A cat? How on earth was a cat useful? Soap tilts his head to the side, genuinely confused, because how is he supposed to play rough with a cat? Simon just hummed and leaned against the doorway.
“You got a cat on purpose?” Simon asked, quite curious, really.
“She's a F1 Serval Main Coon mix. She's gorgeous really.” Kyle showed them a photo of her from his phone. “I'm gonna call her Poppi. She looks like a Poppi right?”
It's a photo of a cat hybrid. She's pretty in a sleek and regal way. Her ears perked up high on her head, hair a wild mess. She isn't small by any means, quite curvy and plush, her tail slightly bushy and wrapped around her waist. She stares at the camera with lidded eyes. It almost looks like she has on eyeliner with how there are dark rings around her eyes.
Soap squinted his eyes, “She looks like trouble. Cats cannae be trusted Gaz.”
“Soap.” Simon scolds him, “an F1? How did you manage that?”
“I put down that I worked in the military. Besides, it's a cat hybrid. She can't be that hard to train.” Kyle laughs as he gathers his things. “Simon, I'll give you a call when she gets settled in.”

You were absolutely not wearing any of the clothes that your caregiver was trying to get you in. You hated clothing, it felt too restrictive, itched your skin, and every piece was clawed to shreds. So the caregiver sighed and transported you to your new home naked as the day you were born. The house was pretty, brick front, large yard, and settled in a nice neighborhood. You already hated it. If this was anything like your last home, you'd be back at the shelter before you know it or sent to a zoo or, worse, sent to a breeder facility to try and breed out the feral. The truck came to a stop in front of the house. The caregiver hopped out and met who you assumed to be your new owner. He's pretty as far as a human goes. His skin reminds you of the stories your mother would whisper to you about the males from where she was from. She had said that you hailed from the dry grasslands and that you were always going to be wild like her.
You miss her terribly.
You watch through the plexiglass window as the guy shakes your caregiver’s hand and signs some paperwork. He's all smiles, but then his eyes get wide. He runs inside for a second while the caregiver opens up the back of the truck.
“Alright now…this may be your last chance.” They say, “If they give you back, you may get sent to a zoo or breeding facility.”
You only hiss and flex your ears back. Eye narrowed and claws out. You never say words, hadn't said actual words in years, not since the first home you were in some time ago.
“None of that now.” They say as they reach in to clip the leash to your collar.
The new owner comes back, and he's holding a pretty pink fabric. It's long and translucent, with soft pink fur on the edges and sleeves. “Hey sweetie.” His voice is soft and low, non-threatening. “Don't want you bared for the whole world. Why don't you put this on, and we can get you in?”
The only response he gets is a low hiss and baring of your fangs. Your tail twitches in aggravation. The caregiver only sighs, saying something about you not liking clothes. The owner only chuckles and turns his brown eyes back to you.
“I understand the dislike for clothing, sweetie, but I would prefer you put your robe on. When we get inside, you can take it off.” He offers the robe out to you again.
Eyeing the fabric and then his sweet and polite smile. Slowly, you reached out your hand and snatched the robe, shoved your arms into the sleeves, and frowned. Your new owner nodded his head, taking the leash from, we'll your old caregiver. You hopped down out of the truck and reluctantly followed him into his home.
“Are you hungry, Poppi?” He asked as the front door shut behind you both.
The flat look you gave him said everything you hoped it would. That you wouldn't be answering to whatever he called you.
“Do you not like the name?” He furrowed his brow when you didn't answer. “I've already sorta had the tags for your collar made, and that was the name I filled out on the forms. But I'm sure you'll have lots of pet names in no time, sweetie.” He reaches to pet you behind your ears but is greeted with a low hiss. You angle your body away from him and immediately shed the frilly robe.
You don't say anything, and simply turn your nose up. The old ratty collar is taken off of you, and he then ushers you deeper into the house. It's tastefully decorated, as much as a man can do anyway. The air smells of clean linen, the TV is on, and it's some strange game with a black and white ball being pushed around. You've seen that ball back at the facility, dogs pushing it back and forth. Other things that catch your sight are a hammock nestled in the corner, plenty of blankets and pillows in it. It's set up in front of a window. On the outside is a bird feeder. There's a scratching post in the room too, next to the couch is a pink fluffy pet bed. All of these things make you bristle and also make you want to purr.
“Sit down, Poppi.” He instructed, pointing to the couch. In front of you, when you do sit down, is the coffee table, on it is the new pretty lacy collar. It has a charm on it, a pink and white paw print, and next to it, a heart tag that you assume says your new name.
It then dawned on you that he was going to put that around your neck! As soon as he picked it up, you were on your feet and over the back of the couch. Hissing at him and frowning.
“Now Poppi, you have to wear it.” He smiles, but it's a tight-lipped one.
“Hmph…no.” The first words you've said in years, and it's you telling him no.
“Well sweetie that won't do.” He slowly moves around the couch, creeping so that he doesn't startle you. “It's important so that you can be safe.”
Your tail flicks in annoyance because yeah, he's right. They drill it into you during nursery school and how important it is to wear your collar. It keeps you safe, helps you be identified, and above all else, makes your owner happy. But that was for domesticated hybrids. In your mind and in your heart, you were wild. A collar seemed to be demeaning in a way, but your years of nursery school itched at you. Clawing for a moment to at least try on the pretty collar.
“Come on, pretty girl.” He encourages you, holding out the collar and shaking it gently. The soft sound of the metal name tag clinking. “Let's at least make sure it fits well, yeah?”
Your ears swivel back, and you glare at him. That tight smile is still on his face, and it makes the kitten in you worry. Your mind tells you about your past owner who withheld food and comforts when you didn't listen. Didn't allow for certain things to happen. He always had that tight smile before he punished you.
Zoo or breeding facility? You weigh the consequences of not putting on that collar. You think of your mother in a breeding facility. You think of your recessive gene sister who came out snow white and how she would always be stuck there. You're reminded of the zoo your mother's brother was sent to. And shudder at the thought of that.
“Fine…but no clothes.” You sneer at him. He relaxes, and the smile isn't as tight. You see the nerves melt from him, and he approaches you slowly, afraid you'd change your mind.
“You don't need to wear clothes in the house. But when we have company, you need to wear panties and your robe.” He says quietly. His fingers brush against your skin, tracing across your shoulders as he fits the collar to you. He takes this time to look at you closely. He thought your photos didn't do you justice, your pretty bronze skin, and the spots on you made his choice in pink the best choice he's made. Maybe he could dress you in lilac in the winter months, light orange in the fall, and during spring, a pretty pale blue? He gently grabs your chin and brushes his thumb across your cheek. A low hiss rumbles through your chest, but he doesn't even flinch.
Instead, he smiles at you, “I'm Kyle, and I'm happy to have you here.” He lets go of you and takes a step back to give you your space. “I've read your file, and I know it will take you time to warm up. You don't have to call me master or owner if you don't want to. You're my pretty kitty now, and I plan to spoil you rotten.” He chuckles and heads past you to the kitchen.
You're a bit taken back by him. By now, an owner is trying to assert their dominance. Demanding that you submit like a dog would, most humans assumed that all hybrids acted like the canine kind. You look around the living room and then follow him to the kitchen. You don't approach him. Instead, you watch him as he goes about pulling food from the fridge to make dinner. On the counter is a pretty set of cutlery, all pink and white with the same script that matched the tags on your collar.
You frown. You give this new arrangement a month before he's sending you away, when he realizes he's welcomed a wild animal into his home.
a.n: sorry this is a day late lol. But my word document gave me hell and when it crashed I lost like half of my writing. I know I know, save as you go, but I was in the zone. I'm taking requests for this au. And I'm also writing somethings I enjoy also.

Excerpts from Lando Norris biography - part III
(There aren't too many behind-the-scenes stories anymore — mostly stating things everyone knows, F1 was postponed due to Covid, online racing happened, F1 resumed, Lando did this in this race, Lando had a new teammate, Lando moved to Monaco, etc etc)
Every one was extremely happy for Lando after his first podium at Austria 2020, including Trevor Carlin: "He is doing everything right and the results are coming and I am very proud of him" and "Lando is the nicest person you could ever meet"
Charlotte recalled in Eifel GP 2020, the marketing team's office was right next to the drivers' room and the walls were paper-thin, and —
We were working in the marketing office and we could hear this giggling from the drivers’ room next door… I went into their drivers’ room to speak to them and they were both lying on the massage bed watching YouTube or Instagram videos together. We all started pissing ourselves laughing at first, but I then said to them, “What the fuck are you doing? Why aren’t you in the garage? Everyone is looking for you!” I was like an ogre telling them off all the time. But that was the point where I and some others in the team realised that they actually enjoyed spending time together.
(Oh my Carlando heart 🥰)
Going into the 2021 season, he started to become more strict with certain things, especially diet and training: he stopped eating pizza, started to do more training and running (even though he "still hates it with a massive passion"), etc, to step up his performance. By summer break there's a noticeable change physically from when he first entered F1
Charlotte on Lando at that point:
When Carlos left, I think Lando got a bit nervous again, because he was a bit like, “Well, this guy’s obviously won seven races. He’s a known quantity, and he’s got a really good reputation.” I felt like Lando’s confidence had grown so much over the two years he had with Carlos. When Carlos left and we signed Daniel, Lando was a bit like, “I’ve really got to step up.” That was when I noticed that Mark, his manager, and Jon, his trainer, were building a positive environment by explaining that Norris had all the tools and experience and should not be putting pressure on himself… I used to call him kiddo, in fact I still do, but that was the time when I thought this guy actually could be really good and it will be really interesting to see the comparison. Some thought Dan would just come in and absolutely smash him, but he didn’t. You could certainly see a change in Lando, just the way he carried himself, the way he spoke, his whole demeanour. He was just so much more confident in himself while being self-deprecating.
(I love Charlotte 🥹)
Charlotte on Lando and Daniel's relationship:
At first, they were both definitely trying to suss each other out. We never thought they would not get on, but they just didn’t spend any time together… There was never any animosity between them, it was just they didn’t hang out. Andreas Seidl would have a meeting with both drivers before the race every Sunday. It’s called a “pre-race objectives meeting” and he would basically lay the law down and tell both drivers they are in it together. You drive for the team, no driver is better than the other, no one gets preferential treatment, you do what’s best for the team result, that kind of thing… Both drivers were team players and we needed that because we knew we were struggling and that Ferrari would be back up there again. Both of them then started spending more time together in engineering meetings and worked really hard on it. I can’t fault either of them. Both their work ethics are just unbelievable … but they started to work together quite a lot and from then, their relationship started to change and they started to get on really well.
McLaren keeps the Monaco 2021 trophy (as always), so Lando keeps the presentation box "because it is the coolest thing, a bespoke Louis Vuitton number" (😂)
Charlotte on Lando's relationship with McLaren team members:
He had worked with the boys for a long time by now, but he knew everyone, not just them by name, but their girlfriends, their wives, their kids, their families, their situation. He’d take the team out bowling or for dinner. I think he really understood the value of trying to galvanise people around him and that made him part of the furniture.
After the accident when he got mugged at Wembley Stadium, Charlotte messaged him saying she's so sorry. The whole McLaren team was being very supportive as well. When Lando went to the factory, he was really subdued, "he was worried because he thought he was going to be in trouble because of the watch getting stolen." Ofc Charlotte gave him a big hug
Charlotte described how different the mood was post Monza vs post Russia, especially during the last few laps, "It felt like the slowest time of my entire life, like watching a slow train crash."
[rumour] Ben Hunt says according to rumours, the contract he signed in mid-2021 (just before Monaco GP) was worth £6m a year, the one he signed beginning of 2022 (current one) was £50m for 4 years

never took him seriously anyways but zak going "we need christian horner of this sport" and inviting trump, who is in the middle of a trial regarding hush money to victims of svsh like......
Read more because I don't mean to clog anybody's tl wid this bs I truly just want to vent 😐
Lemme tell u something because that's part of what's making this whole deal so deeply hard to stomach. Zak brown sees the accusations against horner as a business opportunity because horner's his adversary in this particular business. that's it. And like I was willing to put up wid his lil act because at the end of the day he's saying the right things and he's an influential voice in the sport. So like who cares if its empty and not genuine, positive net benefit etc. whtvr. BUT Zak brown was also one of the few tps/owners who backed the FIA when they clamped down on drivers voices and prohibited 'political' acts in 2022. Zak brown said, and I quote, 'We just need to find a balance there and not have every start of a race being a new political agenda for someone. I don't think that's healthy as it can detract from what everyone has tuned in to, which is they want to watch a grand prix.' 😐 which first of all everybody point and laugh great job finding that balance and not detracting from the race you fucking phony ass bitch but whtvr I digress. So this whole sad event happens right and McLaren just came out wid a statement clarifying they are not backing Trump as a candidate they simply accepted f1's request to show him around the garage out of respect for the US presidency office. And that frankly pisses me off sm because I can only swallow sm fucking bullshit being fed to me until i start vomiting bro. McLaren is based in Woking, England. McLarens two active drivers are australian and British. McLaren doesn't have to be the team that accepts that request, doesn't have to let it happen in front of cameras, certainly doesn't have to let their winner get photographed shaking Trumps hand while Trumps wearing his campaigns slogan hat. Trump is in the middle of a fucking court case, he was found liable for sa like u so rightfully pointed out, the election in exactly six months. That was an endorsement and a very public one and I just pray to God Zak brown at LEASTTT drops his fake fucking concern for ethics in the sport and never speaks another word of it because if he does bro I might go to jail over something

I am still a firm believer that Esteban is the smartest option for Mercedes. Kimi is too young and doesn't have enough experience in my mind for next year and it is pretty obvious that he deserves another season in F2.
Esteban is a great midfield driver that has had multiple difficult cars in his career and is far more more likely because of that to be able to handle next years car (because realistically there won't be a huge step up from this years.)
I also think that throwing an inexperienced driver at a car that clearly the drivers who have been in F1 for years are already struggling with is just setting him up to fail.
Giving Antonelli the clean slate of 2026 with different regulations etc. is in my opinion a much smarter move if you actually want him to succeed and impress as essentially we are reseting. The car might still be shit of course but now there isn't the carrying of expectations like next year will have because very rarely can most teams truly turn around from last season.
I feel like 2026 is a much better start and comparison for Antonelli when we are entering a new era.
Plus Esteban I think has been praised multiple times on his work ethic within teams. If you for example had Antonelli as a reserve or something so he could learn by watching both George and Esteban while participating in another series (like Stoffel is doing for AM) I feel like it can only work out in favour of everyone.

I’m curious about your true thoughts on Lando and Oscar, and I hope you’ll answer this without considering RPF(I mean this because sometimes RPF negatively affects opinions about races, as some people go to great lengths to create non-existent situations related to the race or the behavior between drivers.)
How did you feel watching Hungary or the 2024 season in general? Personally, I’m a fan of Oscar, and Monza was my favorite moment where he showed that he’s a driver capable of winning. I can’t wait for 2025, where I hope he’ll perform like that in every race. I don’t mean to sound rude; I’m just curious about what you honestly think about the 2024 season And the situation between Oscar and Lando. And this season, what do you want to happen? If McLaren has a good car, maybe Oscar as WDC?
hey anon!!! totally fair question, i personally never take rpf into consideration when i'm evaluating a season. mostly i'd just say that mclaren were able to make some of the decisions they did in 2024 because landoscar have the dispositions as teammates to allow for it, instead of (for example) a teammate pairing rife with tension like pierre and esteban. but that's less an rpf take and more just a baseline assessment of their personalities and work ethics! they're not combative people by nature, have had less time to build up "bad history" with each other, aren't under constant pressure of contract insecurity like in some teams, etc... so it stands to reason that they wouldn't experience a huge amount of conflict.
tbh this may sound boring but i'd consider myself something of a radical neutralist when it comes to f1 LOL... i'm not one for pessimistic fearmongering (which was kind of been the mclaren fan M.O for a long time) but i also very rarely entertain presumptuous illusions of victory, so i'm never going to be like "yeah i think oscar is destined to win a wdc" even though he's my favorite driver and i hold him in high esteem.
because of that, i personally enjoyed the 2024 season a lot... because 1) i didn't have high expectations, and 2) helloooo we won the mfing wcc!!!! and it's hard to be a pessimist now when you've seen mclaren through worse times and oscar still came out of it p4, with actual gp wins under his belt, a handful of podiums, etc. i used to write a lot more f1 diary entries but kind of stopped last szn so these are some of my thoughts from end of 2023 / very early 2024:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
looking at these i think something people lose sight of is how QUICKLY mclaren fans have had to realign their expectations (in a good way). like we were still not really sure of our place with the frontrunners last year... and it's fair to criticize some of mclaren's failures this year—god knows they made poor calls in hungary—but i don't look back on it and think that it ruined or sullied oscar's first win, or even feel particularly bitter about the 1-2 that week (a 1-2 is a 1-2 man!). i think mclaren has its faults and that there is always room for improvement, but i'm also sympathetic to the massive overhaul the team has experienced in just 2 years.
for 2025... honestly anything can happen :') i do believe lando still has the edge over oscar, but i hate the idea of immediately prescribing oscar "1.5/2" driver status when that genuinely means nothing atm. imo people are quick to be like, well lando was already showing up his teammates when he was a rookie, and oscar isn't competitive enough against him considering he's already in his 2nd year, and it's like... well yes because every h2h has to be contextualized, and the idea is that lando is, objectively, a better/stronger driver than carlos + daniel, and if he's so capable of challenging max then i wouldn't expect oscar to best him in his 2nd year! i think another thing people lose sight of is the fact that lando himself is SO young, so of course he's not done growing as a driver! yes experience is also as crucial as age, so he's had a lot more experience than oscar is and is supposedly closer to his "ceiling," but i don't look at the h2h between lando and oscar as oscar vs. a fully-formed veteran driver; i see them as two guys who are still developing and growing and getting better by the day, which is why comparing their avg gaps between 1st and 2nd year isn't that effective. i also just think very highly of lando, so it's not a knock on oscar yet to be down on his times at the moment.
anyway, with all that being said... i kind of expect ferrari to be strong this year so i'm too scared to make any assumptions about our wcc/wdc chances at the moment LOL. but i definitely am looking forward to the season no matter what, and i think oscar can put up as good a fight as anyone 🤷‍♀️ whatever happens happens!

So fave f1 driver or team?
well, I suppose that depends on if you’re asking right now on the grid or Ever, because those have different answers.
My favourite driver on the grid currently is Charles Leclerc - there’s others I’m also fond of for various reasons but I do think he’s one of the best (of my favourites/in general) just based on driver merit.
If you want to know EVER then it’s probably a toss up between Alain Prost or Ayrton Senna. I guess that tosses up some interesting points since they were in such an intense rivalry then but I have the benefit of being able to look back and knowing that they are both great drivers (& that they became friends before Senna’s death) haha. Also, I have a hard time picking because when I got into f1 Senna was one of the first drivers I got introduced to (him & Schumacher) - he’s my dad’s favourite driver of all time - and I find the way he drives to be very interesting & unique (the concept of feathering is super cool) and I really respect a lot of things about his personal ethic and drive. I think he’s also a driver that drives in a way that seems almost magic - watching some of his drives it doesn’t feel like I’m watching man and machine but rather a combined being. His ability to drive right on the limit is really impressive. What I like about Prost is more generally just that he drove thinking very tactically - never pushing things beyond the necessary. I find him to be a very smart driver in his own right, who has lots of interesting insights especially on the political side of the sport. I think he gets dismissed way too easily because he’s less interesting to watch but being able to drive well and know what’s necessary to get wins but pushing no more than that is a talent within itself.
I don’t really have a favourite team exactly but I will say if I had to pick I’m probably picking Ferrari. They do have some strange tactics sometimes it has to be said but I really like the culture of Ferrari - the complete passion and loyalty there is so interesting to me. Also I think naturally they pick some of the best drivers (& also a lot of my favourites in the past).

lmao, i talked to a person who works at mclaren and apparently the word is that lando has grown kind of complacent, specifically, his work ethic dipped, but since oscar has shown up his focus returned
also funny re-watching lando interviews where he jokes about being the older guy, and i’m like my guy, you have an age difference of 2 years
I can see how driving against his former teammate was like a snoozefest on Sunday and now he's finally got someone competitive, which is credit for Oscar as a very strong rookie putting up a fight
cusp zoomers are annoying like that 🙄
what's interesting is how landoscar focuses Heavily on lando being older/oscar being younger when galex also have a 2 year age difference but everyone treats them as the same age~ so it's not your actual age that matters but how long you're in f1

Mutuals I'd Like to Get to Know Better!
Tagged by the lovely @yamcat muah muah muah love u always babe </3333
Last song: Oxygen by Lacuna Coil
Last book: I'm on a non-fiction binge lately; Radical Technologies by Adam Greenfield. The topic of how algorithmic data can be used to surveil the state and its citizens has been piquing my interest as of late (i.e. surveillance capitalism & networked digital information technology).
It tries to answer the broad question of how the radical technologies we're familiar with, but we know little of, actually works. Where did they come from? How do they accomplish their work? Why do they appear to us in the way we do?
Understanding their framework allows us to critically evaluate if said technologies are truly 'disruptive' as they are advertised to be, and to pick apart their false claims.
This is truly important to understand because I feel like we have a responsibility to think about the ethical consequences of this new tech and take back control of our agency.
Last movie: I watched Mulholland Drive & American Psycho back to back with my film bro friends, it was great. I was on a Signalis itch during that time, so this movie was perfect hahaha.
(Hey yamcat we watched Nice Guys & The Count of Monte Christo when I visited you!! haha)
Last TV show: Beyond Evil... duh. I've been dragging multiple of my friends to watch that masterpiece of a show. So I've watched this show 3 times over with 2 different friends? Shin Ha Kyun's performance as Lee Dong Sik and Yeo Jin Goo's as Han Joo Won are forever iconic in my brain. I swear to you I've never had favourite actors before, until now.
Next TV show, though... Severance!
Last thing I searched: "michael schumacher life bio" I forgot what led to this 😂 I think I was watching a couple of youtubers interviewing Carlos Sainz and they mentioned Schumacher I guess??
Favorite color: Depends for what. For clothes & interior design, I love earthy and neutral colours. In graphic & packaging design, I fucking love the Ferrari Red
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: Savoury Spicy! I'm not a sweet tooth.
Relationship status: married to a ferrari car (soon) (joking I'm going through heartbreak bcs of someone actually lol)
Looking forward to: Reading the rest of Radical Technologies! Finishing my to do list for this week! I'm organising meet-ups and parties for different friend groups this month because I'll be saying goodbye to them for now! Truly taking care of myself because I've been Han Joo Won-ing through life right now.
Current obsessions:
My fucking miniature Mercedes F1 car figurine I have on my desk. That little car brings me so much dopamine whenever I look at it, my god. It's like I'm 10 with my hotwheels collection again. I think the mercedes f1 car has the coolest & sleekest design on the grid.
F1 F1 F1 I LOVE F1................ Look man yesterday I watched a youtube video of Carlos testing his new Williams and the inner kid in me was like 'FUCK THAT'S SO COOL FUUUCKKKK' ........... anyways I love Ferrari and I love motorsports and I love cars
Beyond Evil
Shin Ha Kyun. He is my favourite middle aged man
---
Tagging: @saltedpin @jingooism @luckynoon @l-tyrell !! Anyone who sees this is welcome to continue this train too! </3

Honestly, I‘ve seen so much toxicity in the general F1 space recently and since this has weirdly become my little happy bubble, I decided that I‘ll straight up block people who pop up on my timeline who bash people or are unnecessarily spiteful. Like, in the end we‘re all watching, from afar, a bunch of millionaires driving their crazy expensive and technologically insane cars, backed by teams with silly amounts of money and sponsors with even more of it. We‘re not debating the ethics of eating puppies or stealing ice cream from little kids.
I‘ll make myself a little corner of papaya comfiness on here and if that means blocking everyone ranting on about how they think Lando‘s P1 is undeserved or wishing harm on any driver or team or calling for people‘s heads, then I‘m fine with that.

🍩 where do you like to get your f1 news from?
I have a variety of sources, although as I have been reminded today, sometimes things get missed. A few bits of preamble: - There are sites I avoid where possible - PlanetF1 because of a long-standing objection concerning a particular anti-Scottish article and overuse of GMM, GMM itself because it scrapes news articles without recompense, Facebook because that site hasn't worked on my computer since 2016, Instagram because of ethical objections to the Zuckerberg Empire, as well as the Daily Mail (or Daily Fail), Daily Express, Diario AS and Marca due to repeated errors in its F1 stories. While YouTube is a source I consider, it often doesn't load for me, videos are usually inefficient sources of news at the best of times, and many YouTube users fail one or more of the above tests. Due to ethical objections to the Elon Musk's behaviour, technical issues and changes in employer policy, I plan to render my Twitter account semi-dormant (occasional messages to keep the account parked and reduce the risk of impersonation, but otherwise only used for emergency read purposes) in 2025. - There is no such thing as an infallible news source. - Different news sources will have different strengths and weaknesses (this applies to both people and outlets; the number of freelance journalists and large outfits means both points need to be remembered). - Most people will have their news sources biased towards languages in which they are fluent, are comfortable for them and/or they are actively trying to learn. - Nobody has a full access to Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram or any other large social media address. This will have been limited to the lens enabled by the accounts encountered that the user wants to follow, plus sources sent to them by those users. Sources below:
- Broadcasts. I watch Channel 4 and sometimes also see Sky coverage (one of my friends has Sky and sometimes invites me over to watch qualifying together). - The FIA. Official news from there is rock-solid reliable, if sometimes with a heavy psuedopolitical slant, and the regulation change documents are often drivers of news items. There have been a couple of times where I accidentally "broke" a news item to the world because I spotted an implication of the regulations that wasn't published elsewhere, and mentioned it on my blog and in RaceFans. - RaceFans - the best independent news site I know for F1. - BBC - used to cover F1 in the UK, still retains a decent coverage of the series. Mum sometimes tells me the Radio 4 version of a situation, but mostly I use the website because the sports team is less biased than the news section (even though the same people will have done the initial research on both versions, the news team is apt to remove most of the context due to time). Occasionally I use BBC Radio 5 Live broadcast information to help. - Sometimes I also use The Metro and i newspapers for additional angles, although these are often short of detail and generally not the sort of material I would use to start an article. - Twitter used to be good for picking up news items from places which are irregular news sources and/or only conditionally reliable and/or in languages I am not so good at reading (e.g. Japanese). Unfortunately in the last few months it has become unreliable from a technical standpoint, to the point where I consider myself lucky if I can log in once a fortnight. - Tumblr also helps with picking up irregular/conditionally reliable/non-fluent-language news sources. This has the additional benefit of working well enough to visit regularly. - MSN has some news items, but also a lot of clickbait headlines and tends to lift articles from elsewhere via GMM. I only use that source because my workplace sets it as a home page for some reason, so I can't help but see the F1 headlines there. I would not use it as a direct, although unlike most GMM users, it at least credits its source (allowing a direct source check later). - I also sometimes get pointed towards news items by the Charles Leclerc Discord channel, the GP Wizard forum and Dad's YouTube consumption. Let's say some of those links turn out to be a lot better than others. - Motor Sport and Autosport websites are sometimes useful for detail. - I have to wait each month, but GP Racing (which is being renamed this month as it merges with Autosport magazine) is also good for detail. - Sometimes I track specific other sites for specific news items. For example, I track the Stewarts legal website for safety-related news. Stewarts was the legal firm the Bianchis employed to correct the FIA's attempt to blame Jules for the FIA's mistakes. It was successful, but I have noticed from its stories that it is still keeping half an eye on the FIA's safety record. (Occasionally its articles about other areas of related law are informative for background reasons).

As someone who is a fan of both hockey and f1, it is odd watching interactions of non-hockey sports fans thinking that things like the current ‘booktok’ situation could happen in their sport. Because yes it can. I mentioned this in tags on another post today but I figured I’d bring it up in an individual post. Let me know if anyone has already brought this up on here. During and following quarantine it obviously became very common for drivers to stream on twitch in particular. This also led to a big increase of fans for particular drivers (Lando especially) because it really encouraged and made it accessible for fans to actually interact with them. I don’t remember who it was, I think it was Max Fewtrell (but correct me if I’m wrong) who was the one streaming. When people started frequently commenting in the chat asking what he thought about certain things like fanfic and ships. This led to him actually coming on here and looking at stuff, which led to a lot of people deleting or privating some of their content. Yet again if someone actually remembers the exact details about this please add them to this post.
Luckily enough nothing really came from this incident, everything pretty much got to continue on as normal. But the point is that no fandoms (sports or not) are immune from something like this happening. Not only is it weird to seek out the attention of a celebrity for things like this but people don’t realize the damage you could do to a fan base. Most online spaces like this are meant for people to feel comfortable interacting and engaging with their interests. And bringing the actual people into things like this can rightfully make a lot of people uncomfortable and hesitant. Personally I don’t read or write rpf but obviously there’s a lotta people within sports fandoms that do. This is not a post to debate about the ethics of rpf, this post is to make a point.

Here's a short summary of the Lance interview (thanks for @goodguylance for reminding me it's already out!)
- Lance has been skiing since he was 2 and loves it. He prefers the mountains to the beach holiday
- He has been living in London for nearly 7 years (cue accent shenanigans between him and Ted)
- He enjoyed working with Seb and learning some of his work ethics. He also regrets some of the maneuvers he did and isn't proud of them. He learned a lot from his experience etc. He also respects him for everything he did for the sport and thinks he's a class act. He thinks Seb is a great person of track too.
- He does not drive very often on the road and also hate the parking/traffic that comes with it.
- There were some bear shenanigans (no one told Ted there would be bears apparently)
- He was bad at maths and according to himself a "little shit" when he was in sports because he was so competitive . He wasn't good at school like most drivers.
- He thinks he grew up with the sport and learned a lot on- and off track. The jump from F3 to F1 was big partly because of regs but also because of the huge media spectacle and the big paddock.
- He loves that every season is different and that he can better and push himself every season against some of the best drivers in the world.
- He is aware of the discredit he gets due to his background but blocks it out because he doesn't like the negativity.
- For him it's important to have his small circle that knows the full picture and have them know how he actually performs. He gives his energy to those people and focuses on them.
- He races for himself and his own satisfaction. He doesn't really need the validation from others.
- He judges himself probably the hardest and is the first to judge himself.
- He loves the feeling of performing well on the two day weekend and thrives of it. He is also aware that it can be hard against the others which makes it more special when you do well.
- He admires Fernando for continuing to be himself all throughout the years. He thinks Fernando's trademark is the seeming to get better and continuing to push even despite the long time he has already been in the sport. He feels that already with Fernando. Fernando seems to want to know every detail and all the ways they can improvement.
- Lance is looking forward to working with Fernando because of his attitude.
Lance was so relaxed and open that interview so I truly hope that many of you watch it because it shows that he puts so much of himself into F1.
