Was listening to The Race's podcast on LH to Ferrari from yesterday, and they were discussing whether Lando knew about this when he signed his new contract a week ago. Conclusion is, he knew. Why?
"Charles knew about this when he signed his new contract, and Carlos knew about this too. Well if Carlos knew about this, then Lando probably knew as well, because those two are MATES"
LMAOOO. So it's already a given in the F1 paddock that whatever Carlos knew, Lando knows as well (and vice versa)🤣 Confidential information? McLaren, Ferrari, contract, etc? Nah don't care, they share all that
Link to the podcast, around 1 hour mark

Love this answer. Just LOVE how Andrea Stella deals with the human side of his drivers, and how he treats Lando with so much love and respect

Excerpts from Lando Norris biography - part III
(There aren't too many behind-the-scenes stories anymore — mostly stating things everyone knows, F1 was postponed due to Covid, online racing happened, F1 resumed, Lando did this in this race, Lando had a new teammate, Lando moved to Monaco, etc etc)
Every one was extremely happy for Lando after his first podium at Austria 2020, including Trevor Carlin: "He is doing everything right and the results are coming and I am very proud of him" and "Lando is the nicest person you could ever meet"
Charlotte recalled in Eifel GP 2020, the marketing team's office was right next to the drivers' room and the walls were paper-thin, and —
We were working in the marketing office and we could hear this giggling from the drivers’ room next door… I went into their drivers’ room to speak to them and they were both lying on the massage bed watching YouTube or Instagram videos together. We all started pissing ourselves laughing at first, but I then said to them, “What the fuck are you doing? Why aren’t you in the garage? Everyone is looking for you!” I was like an ogre telling them off all the time. But that was the point where I and some others in the team realised that they actually enjoyed spending time together.
(Oh my Carlando heart 🥰)
Going into the 2021 season, he started to become more strict with certain things, especially diet and training: he stopped eating pizza, started to do more training and running (even though he "still hates it with a massive passion"), etc, to step up his performance. By summer break there's a noticeable change physically from when he first entered F1
Charlotte on Lando at that point:
When Carlos left, I think Lando got a bit nervous again, because he was a bit like, “Well, this guy’s obviously won seven races. He’s a known quantity, and he’s got a really good reputation.” I felt like Lando’s confidence had grown so much over the two years he had with Carlos. When Carlos left and we signed Daniel, Lando was a bit like, “I’ve really got to step up.” That was when I noticed that Mark, his manager, and Jon, his trainer, were building a positive environment by explaining that Norris had all the tools and experience and should not be putting pressure on himself… I used to call him kiddo, in fact I still do, but that was the time when I thought this guy actually could be really good and it will be really interesting to see the comparison. Some thought Dan would just come in and absolutely smash him, but he didn’t. You could certainly see a change in Lando, just the way he carried himself, the way he spoke, his whole demeanour. He was just so much more confident in himself while being self-deprecating.
(I love Charlotte 🥹)
Charlotte on Lando and Daniel's relationship:
At first, they were both definitely trying to suss each other out. We never thought they would not get on, but they just didn’t spend any time together… There was never any animosity between them, it was just they didn’t hang out. Andreas Seidl would have a meeting with both drivers before the race every Sunday. It’s called a “pre-race objectives meeting” and he would basically lay the law down and tell both drivers they are in it together. You drive for the team, no driver is better than the other, no one gets preferential treatment, you do what’s best for the team result, that kind of thing… Both drivers were team players and we needed that because we knew we were struggling and that Ferrari would be back up there again. Both of them then started spending more time together in engineering meetings and worked really hard on it. I can’t fault either of them. Both their work ethics are just unbelievable … but they started to work together quite a lot and from then, their relationship started to change and they started to get on really well.
McLaren keeps the Monaco 2021 trophy (as always), so Lando keeps the presentation box "because it is the coolest thing, a bespoke Louis Vuitton number" (😂)
Charlotte on Lando's relationship with McLaren team members:
He had worked with the boys for a long time by now, but he knew everyone, not just them by name, but their girlfriends, their wives, their kids, their families, their situation. He’d take the team out bowling or for dinner. I think he really understood the value of trying to galvanise people around him and that made him part of the furniture.
After the accident when he got mugged at Wembley Stadium, Charlotte messaged him saying she's so sorry. The whole McLaren team was being very supportive as well. When Lando went to the factory, he was really subdued, "he was worried because he thought he was going to be in trouble because of the watch getting stolen." Ofc Charlotte gave him a big hug
Charlotte described how different the mood was post Monza vs post Russia, especially during the last few laps, "It felt like the slowest time of my entire life, like watching a slow train crash."
[rumour] Ben Hunt says according to rumours, the contract he signed in mid-2021 (just before Monaco GP) was worth £6m a year, the one he signed beginning of 2022 (current one) was £50m for 4 years

Excerpts from Lando Norris biography - part II
What's the naughtiest thing you've ever done?
When I was five, I stole a sweet from the sweet shop. My parents found out and I lied and said they were given to us from school. Then my mum said she was going to ask the teacher, that’s when I knew it was all going to go wrong, so I had to own up to it.
lol 😂
Charlotte said Lando was at the MTC a LOT when he was a McLaren junior, more than Fernando, Jenson or Stoffel, because he lived nearby. When there's media commitments others don't want to do or cannot do, it's always Lando's job to do it
When Lando became an F1 driver in 2019, Jon and Mark made it clear to Charlotte that they should "in no way mollycoddle him". They actually asked Charlotte to tell them every time Lando's late or did anything wrong. On the other hand they are all very supportive of Lando when he did good, eg. getting a podium, and Lando would be very chuffed about it
But Lando was "forever trying to rebel" (😂), by not wearing the correct team gear etc, and Charlotte had to become a big sister for him. "He once asked me why I was always telling him about Carlos, and I told him to come back to me once he’d done five years in F1." Lando and Charlotte also got really close over time, "Sometimes I’d just go and sit with him in his driver’s room and chat about life."
Charlotte on Carlando (at the beginning): she said Carlos came into McLaren with a mindset of trying to establish himself, as a valuable F1 driver and as no.1 driver in the team, so he treated Lando as a little brother
Before his first GP in Australia 2019, Lando was very very nervous, "he just went very, very quiet. Like steely quiet". He texted Charlotte that he did not want to muck up, and Charlotte had to try to lower expectations for him and reassure him. He did not sleep at all the night before Sunday's race. Charlotte said he put way too much pressure on himself
The accident in Spa 2019 hit his dad Adam really hard, that "he felt very sick". Lando had to reassure his family about his safety (🥺)
Charlotte said that podium for Carlos in Brazil 2019 became a defining moment for Norris, "deep down, he wanted to be the one who had delivered that podium for the team"
(I'll move on to 2020 and 2021 tomorrow)
#lando norris#charlotte sefton#I have realized the most interesting part of this book is the Charlotte's quotes#carlos sainz jr

Some excerpts from the new Lando Norris biography
Although Lando was born into a rich family, his dad, Adam Norris, did not come from wealth himself. Adam's dad was a farmer & mum was a teacher. Adam has dyslexia and he was terrible at school and hated it. So he always has the mentality of working harder than anyone else to success
Lando and his brother Oli tried horse riding, quadbike and motorbike before eventually got into karting. Lando was 7 yo when he first started racing in karts
Adam was not willing to just buy the best equipment for his sons, instead he wanted to develop them. He approached Mark Berryman and Fraser Sheader in 2011 for help, Mark and Fraser has just founded ADD management in 2010 and their philosophy is on "developing and nurturing talents" rather than "just place them in teams", so they matched perfectly.
Mark on first meeting Lando: "for at least the first nine months he didn't listen to a word I said. "(😂😂) They were doing great with Oli because he was listening, but Lando just wasn't listening, but even then he's still winning races because he's really fast
Lando is the polar opposite now: he listens to everything Mark suggests. Brazil GP 2022 when Lando was on track, Mark texted Jon some suggestions, and Lando tried it straightaway. Out of Mark's students now, Lando is the best at "if you put something forward, he just does it".
Lando was so incredibly fast at that early age that people were convinced he/the team was cheating. One race when he was in the junior category, his lap time was so incredible that it would have put him in top 6 in the senior category
Lando had two crucial meetings in 2014, one was Jon Malvern, who's still his trainer to this day, the other was Trevor Carlin, who's the boss of the Carlin team, with which Lando competed from 2015 to 2018
Fraser approached Zak Brown in August 2016 to help bring some commercial values to ADD management. Zak at the time was the co-owner of United Autosports, a sports-car team. They agreed on a deal, and Zak then became part of the core Norris team together with Jon, Mark and Fraser. Little did they know Zak would soon became CEO of McLaren (😂)
February 2017. Charlotte Sefton was setting up a filming event on the Boulevard of MTC. She was making sure no one is on the Boulevard, tours was canceled, etc, apart from one guy "Lando Norris", who's a "VIP guest" and "it's top secret". Charlotte went "who's this guy?" and looked up on the Internet. (😂) Later that day she saw this shy kid got out of a Mini, said "hello" to her and walked to Zak's office. Days later Lando was confirmed as a junior driver for McLaren
(This book isn't as interesting as I initially thought, it's mostly "Norris raced in xxx series in year xxxx and did xyz"; but it does have a lot of quotes from people around him & some behind-the-scenes stories)
