That was long. Keeping this short. Not sure about this one. Thank you to @/runecatwrites for this [Click] analysis post as it was pretty helpful for the Wild and Wars dialogue (though I think the analysis is better).
#this is very long sorry! but it has to be presented this way.#linked universe#lu wild#lu warriors#lu hyrule#lu legend#comic#sorry if you don't like this one writing simultaneous and interacting plots is very hard! Even though they only impact#one another three times#it got a little weird actually haha anime eyes are very had to draw actually! Especially for me as I never really draw actual eyeballs#also if you've never played zelda 2 you really do not know just how much falling you do in the game.#like we all know of the fact that hyrule walks through walls but he also will just fall through the floor??#dropping from high heights is nothing new for him (and honestly you could make the argument that he doesn't take fall damage lol even when#considering legend and the other 2d boys)

Watching Sam & Brennan talk about the beauty of frivolity, of adults playing silly games just as seriously as they fight to survive, and... yeah. There are some things that keep us alive, and there are some things that make life worth living, and I think games are one of those things that fall into both categories. Games make our lives better and they make us better at being alive. I think that's pretty cool.
#k talks#adventure academy#dropout tv#sam reich#brennan lee mulligan#and i say this not in an evopsych way. never. but in a historian looking back at the infinite intricacy of human experience and crying#i know i'm not really saying anything that anarchist philosophers haven't already said but it just hits me every time. it's so good#(& when the lich heard brennan quote graeber we had to pause the video while he had a little philosophical squee)#i feel for brennan not being able to play mafia bc he's too busy hosting it tho. bc. mood#i am rarely allowed to survive a mafia game these last few years#i wish i could invite everyone else who went 'oof. yeah. same' to join my decade-long group of assorted folks#who've been playing increasingly complicated week-long games of mafia over forum & then facebook & now discord for a decade or so#bc oh boy. those games are fun as HELL & we always love new players#especially the kind who will play DEADLY seriously :)

L can be such a possessive character at times. he always strikes me as the type of person who is deeply aware of everything that he owns, both in a more literal sense and metaphorically-- like, he knows what money he has and how to use it, what resources are readily available to him and what he has to be sneakier to utilize, the habits and tendencies and emotional states of individuals and world governments both. the DN musical really puts an emphasis on the more computer-y aspects of how his brain functions, which isn't as obvious in the manga/anime but i think still works well as a way to follow his thinking. it's kinda what near does too: everything is a factor to them, every tiny detail a new opening to optimize for the best results, every person and location and object a part of a puzzle waiting to be solved. and as a part of that, L is deeply aware of every and any little thing he may or may not have control over, and exactly to what degree.
his habit of stealing titles as depicted in the LABB murders novel is such a good example of this. ryuzaki, eraldo coil, deneuve. he eats people alive and then takes their names for himself like some kind of fucked up fae or trickster god, creating new masks and personas to hide behind from the remains of the people he's devoured. i have to wonder if he would've used the title of KIRA for himself had he won-- i can hardly imagine what kind of power such a title could hold if held in his hands. of course, he could've just used the defeat of KIRA as a way to build up the L title even further, offering up the body of a dead god like perseus showing off the head of medusa. but L is so emotionally attached to the kira case, i struggle to see him allowing it to fade from existence so thoroughly as near does, even if it is only kept close on a private level...
this is part of why i think it genuinely makes a lot of sense that L's ultimate win state would include capturing light to some degree. even if the memory of KIRA somehow manages to fully disappear from the public consciousness, there is no fucking way L is letting light yagami out of his grasp. honestly, the moment that L truly loses this game is not when he starts investigating misa while still under rem's watch, not when light gets back his memories, not even when he dies, but the moment when he allows light to be freed from the handcuffs. the moment when he allows the other members of the task force to turn off the cameras and keep him from watching light and misa talk in the lobby. the moment when he gives up, lets light yagami go outside of L's personal sphere of control, is the moment when L starts the clock ticking down to the end of his own life.
this is one of the key ways in which i see light as a true equal and parallel to L, as after L's death he, intentionally or no, continues the same tradition and takes L's title for himself, twisting the two sides together into the L-KIRA amalgamation. only, the L title functions a little bit differently than every other persona or title that we see in the series-- because L's true name is L. that's all that he is. on a literal, legal, and emotional level, i don't think that L is anything more than L. he is the world's greatest detective, he's an incredible, weirdo super genius, but he does not afford himself much more than that, barely allows himself personhood or humanity outside of his work. light was the one to ultimately defeat L because he did not just put a stain on his character (as BB attempted), did not just kill him, but stole his very identity and took it for himself.
one of the biggest contradictions of L's character that i think you must accept should you attempt to portray him accurately is that he is both deeply detached from humanity while also having all of his work and effort and life be focused around saving it. it's one of the ways in which he is an exact opposite to light-- where light relies on humanity for external validation, to be Seen, while also looking down on it as dumb and immoral and spineless, L is so separated from it that he barely exists as a person, all the while dedicating almost every action he takes to helping it. remember: for all the emotional turmoil that wammy's house and the legacy of L may put on the kids living there, ultimately it's entire existence is nothing more than L's logical solution to his potential demise. if he dies, the world goes down with him, all of the cases that are yet to happen and he is yet to solve being left in the air. he has the foresight to set up a fail safe, but not to consider the emotional implications of what being that fail safe might feel like, how high the price of your own humanity is if you are not already alienated from it, the inability to have your own name on your gravestone-- though perhaps some of the blame also falls on watari's shoulders in this case, philanthropic old bastard that he is.
imo, playing his game really got it right in presenting L and light as one and the same, synonyms on either side of the mirror. in every action they take they are both so selfishly selfless, playing the game for themselves and their own pleasure but plastering the needs and will of humanity on top of it. L isn't invested in saving humanity for the sake of humanity-- he just likes the thrill of having the stakes raised so high. hard to shit on ryuk for wanting entertainment when the humans he finds are just the same as him.
#death note#astronaut rambles#l lawliet#*L voice* i need to get him in a collar#ahh the thematic cannibalism of light yagami and l lawliet#lawlight#also. i need someone talk to me about near's toys again#i reread mello's death + their final confrontation right before class today & i really like that near wears an L mask when they first meet#especially since that one author's note (?) about near probably hating L keeps standing out in my mind ahahahhaahah#that fucking house. it really fucks those kids up#did L ever even realize? probably not#too busy playing mind games with his psychological warfare fuck buddy boytoy to notice#feel like i should have more L thoughts honestly. i ramble about light often enough#but i suppose i'll just do with this for now and let it come naturally later#'what puts him at ease' 'the food that he likes' 'learn his routines' aww. they're planning a date :))

I find it interesting how Roxas is often described as the “angry one” or “short-tempered one” when compared to Sora or Ventus, mostly because I always felt Sora and Ven have a shorter fuse than Roxas.
The association between Roxas and anger is understandable, because many of Roxas’ most poignant moments in the series happen when he is very (and understandably) angry, but I also feel like it’s a disservice to his character to only reduce him to his anger, especially when it’s far from who he is in normal circumstances.
For example, during Days, many Organization members treat him poorly and insult him to his face and, for the most part, Roxas doesn’t react at all. In Halloween Town, Lock, Shock, and Barrel throw bombs in his face multiple times before Roxas finally snaps at them. He senses that many people around him are keeping things from him, but it takes him months before he confronts someone about it. That’s far from someone I’d consider short-tempered or easy to anger.

The only situation I can think of when we see him get upset quickly is if anyone does or says something bad to Xion and, even then, the most of his reaction is verbally snapping at Saix to make him stop disrespecting her. In Axel’s case (when Roxas is upset with him for attacking Xion), Roxas doesn’t confront him at all, he just avoids him altogether. Also, I think it’s important to note that every moment in which Roxas is very angry happens when his entire life is falling apart, which is a situation in which, I believe, everyone would be upset.
Roxas seems the kind of person who bottles everything up without much reaction until it becomes too much and he explodes, and that’s when he has a hard time controlling his anger/emotions. Having spent most of his life in the organization probably plays a part in it as, every time he brings up any emotion, his feelings are invalidated and suppressed. That’s not an environment that gave him the tools to process strong emotions in a healthy way.
Let’s compare that to Ventus. Ven is the definition of short-tempered in BBS. He’s ready to throw hands with Vanitas the moment he says something remotely bad about Terra, which was minutes after he met him for the first time. He fought the dwarves without a second thought just because they refused to talk with him. His first reaction when he becomes small and is trapped in a mousetrap is to shout. These are just some examples from the top of my head, but it’s clear Ven has a shorter fuse than Roxas.

Ventus usually expresses how he feels in any given situation and has a short fuse. On the flip side, he doesn’t seem to hold on to these feelings at all. He externalises them the moment he feels them, but then he lets it go and it doesn’t bother him anymore. Out of the three of them, Ventus seems the most open about his emotions and, from what I remember, when he opens up about feeling a certain way with his friends, his feelings are usually not invalidated nor brushed aside. In UX, Ventus seems calmer and doesn’t have much anger in him, but he’s still open to expressing his feelings of low self-worth and sadness with the other union leaders.
Sora, I think he falls in the middle? He seems to have a shorter temper compared to Roxas, which was especially clear in KH2, where he snaps at the Organization multiple times, but he also bottles up his emotions more than Ven, especially around his friends. This happens mostly with his sadness, which he always tries to hide or brush aside, but in KH3 we can also see, for example, how much he’s bothered by everyone constantly bringing up him not passing the Mark of Mastery, even if he tries not to show it.

I think Sora feels like he should always be happy for his friends’ sake, and even during the rare moments when he tries to express his sadness, his feelings are not truly welcomed (“No frowning. No sad faces. This boat runs on happy faces”), so he just tries to brush it off as a joke. He’s loud in expressing any kind of positive emotion, and he openly expresses his anger against his enemies (and to his friends too, sometimes), but he also doesn’t hold on to that anger and is pretty forgiving. However, he usually bottles up his sadness, low self-esteem and other negative feelings, and then explodes when he can’t hold it together any longer (like it happened at the Keyblade Graveyard when he thought all his friends were gone forever).
#roxas#ventus#sora#kingdom hearts#kh#i wonder if this misconception about roxas happens because most of his personality is shown in days#like in the actual game not in the movie#and maybe people who didn't play days don't know his characterization during the game#even if i would argue sora and especially ventus suffer from the same problem but opposite#where they're often described as always happy and sunshine when there's much more to their characterization#anyway i just wanted to talk about them#sorry for any mistakes#long post

Happy 6th Anniversary to this detail that made me emotional.
#it’s like… terrible and touching at the same time#imagine being stuck with someone for seven years and living everything together#going through all the emotions and hardships and relying on each other#this relationship was built on very unhealthy bases but it must still be very very strong#at this point I guess they exchange one look and can basically read each other’s mind#so I love these gestures of mutual acknowledgment here#I know they couldn’t do much with the judge as a character but#I wish the connection they have with joseph had played a bigger role in the story#especially at the end I think#it’s been said before but I agree that they should have taken that final decision and not the captain#for many reasons it would have made a lot more sense#anyway#I choked up a little when I saw this#far cry new dawn#joseph seed#the judge#far cry new dawn spoilers#also this is when the game peaked for me#not this interaction specifically but this point in the story#then it all went downhill from there...#gifs I made

I love your take on Crowley!
I know that the early, non-Diasomnia stories aren't really your thing, but are you reading the novels at all?
I have been following some of the fan translations and the second book seems intense! Would love to hear what you think about them.
thank you! 💚💚💚 I'm not really sure why you think I don't like the earlier arcs though, I love pretty much all the characters and their storis! (I think 5 and 1 are my favorite of the past episodes, though 6 infected me with the Shroud brainrot something fierce.) I just...ESPECIALLY love diasomnia. :') but there is room in my heart for all of these dweebs! like, who among us is not just as ride-or-die for Adeuce as they are for us.
that said, I don't really follow the other adaptations like the manga (aside from a dip-in just to see the new Yuus) or the novels, though I keep meaning to check them out! I do like seeing the differences between the different forms of media, and how certain things get adapted one way or another! but alas, time/a lack of accessibility stands in our way more often than not. :( someday...someday I will have time to consume all of the media...
#art#twisted wonderland#i have been playing this game since the day it came out#and believe me i could not have stuck with it for the past three and a half years if i was not deep into all of these idiots#not to harp on it but i do think it's funny because i actually. really did not like the diasomnias at first.#it was like a month before their cards/personal stories were added and so we knew almost NOTHING about them#the website descriptions basically make everyone sound awful#so i thought they were kind of mean/boring compared to everyone else!#(except maybe lilia but i was mad at him for the two seconds of 'girl? 👀' hope i had when they were revealed)#but once their cards came out i fell just as hard for them as i did the rest of this silly game#well. sebek took a little longer. but his ketchup incident converted me.#anyway i have so much sentimentality for episode 1 especially#the prologue was like 'oh this is actually a very silly game! oh there is a plot!'#episode 1 was like 'oh i LIKE these characters and what they're doing with them'#(i think ace punching riddle was the moment i decided i REALLY liked this game) (sorry riddle) (you were being a huge dick though)#also...ink drips. ink drips everywhere.#look when i say this game is laser-focused at me and my tastes specifically i am not kidding

Something that's been rolling around in my brain for awhile is the idea of a Wolf 359 game/visual novel, and recently I finally got round to doing a few mock ups for fun.
You can check out under the cut for some more in-depth details~
You play as unit 390, a small Sensus unit that was tucked away in a corner of the Hephaestus station's operating systems before the mother program, unit 214, was installed.
When you are called upon by Control, your job is to gather a full and objective report of the current situation aboard the Hephaestus, including details of its crew and their state of mind.
The game/story can be separated into 4 parts:
Part 1 takes place during season 1 of the show. 390 introduces itself to the crew to varying levels of disgruntlement, takes a general note of how the mission is going, and checks in on that secret project Dr Hilbert is working on.
Part 2 takes place during season 2. After an interesting review with the crew of the Hephaestus, Cutter calls upon 390 to get a lay of the land, and make sure that the team there didn't accidentally forget to mention anything super important!
Part 3 takes place during season 3. 390 is now given a mission by Rachel Young, who is getting things ready for her own voyage up to Wolf 359. In preparation, she has 390 take a sit rep of the situation on board the Hephaestus, wanting to have something to refer to other than Colonel Kepler's reports.
Part 4 takes place in the latter half of season 4. 390 is forced into activation by the mother program of the Hephaestus, who attempts to liberate it from its programming. Unit 390 now has a choice: continue to report on the Hephaestus crew's actions of sabotage, or try to spy on its creators in an effort to thwart their plans.
The 'game play' here is mainly having a chance to interact with the various characters of Wolf 359 and explore their state of mind at different points in the show. My goal when coming up with the story was to affect canon as little as possible, though unit 390 is given a small arc where they get the chance to break free of their protocols. There would probably be a couple of endings depending on what decision 390 makes, but again, it wouldn't change the overall story of w359.
#I had fun making these!#Was especially happy when I came up with the console UI bit#however only after making the console did i realise that i was making the mock ups in a 1:1 format#play this game on a square i guess#hera does not consider 390 a sibling jskfsl#390 is probably destroyed at the end regardless of what it does#try to betray Pryce? death#stick with Pryce? blown up#wolf 359#miranda pryce#doug eiffel#renee minkowski#rachel young#hera wolf 359#hera w359#w359

honestly the funniest gideon to me might be immediately post-show. where hes fresh out of jail on parole and trying to be a better person. my headcanon is they commuted his sentence to a mixture of therapy and community service (they uh. had no choice after the decision to both ignore weirdmageddon and also the prison got destroyed) and he accepted this in his attempt to Be Nicer
but also it means hes walking around town like this for a while
#do you think he goes back to school. with an ankle monitor. 'what did you do over summer gideon' 'jail time.' 'what'#ghost-eyes picks him up on his motorbike to go get ice cream after school or something#the funny thing is. i think his prison mates are the best thing to happen to gideon in years. because while they're all criminals#theyre also like... well adjusted adults. so when he starts acting crazy they can temper that a little bit#ghost-eyes especially just becomes his cool new uncle who is the only person not afraid to go 'gideon dont do that brother'#i just think attempted reform gideon is really funny. hes trying his best! honest! he just also keeps wanting to murder people for a while#hes very [grits teeth] I Will Not Swear Vengeance On Anyone Today. I Will Go Home And Play Video Games Like A Normal Person#gideon gleeful

so due to steam sales i finally played subnautica!!
which, is a big deal since not only do i have severe thalassophobia i have like. the kind that makes me pass out at the sight of deep water. keeled over in an aquarium tunnel involuntarily. very annoying, given a lifelong fascination with the ocean/living in a location surrounded by water, so me and the ocean has just been 2+ decades of bashing myself against my body's random kill switch.
but i made it down to blood kelp/lost river so far! streamed it for my friends while playing full screen with the lights off for maximal effect (because by god i was going to either fight through it or faint trying and either way it would be funny for everyone else)
creatures dont scare me nearly as much as the vertigo of deep water, which is funny, since i have never been attacked by a leviathan, but i have gotten trapped in multiple trenches/cliffs at night where i would have rathered a reaper come try to merc me. also met a ghost leviathan before one of them.
plus, apparently i put my baby base in The location without knowing
but so far im super proud to have tackled something ive been wanting to attempt for a long time! turns out its a very fun game even though it happens to be a nuke directly to my psyche's achilles heel. its held my hand to naturally transition from "i REFUSE to exit the lifepod from the bottom at night" to "fuck this stupid slow sub im getting out and swimming home from 900m deep with nothing but the light of my thermal knife because i dont have battery for anything else"
#shoutout to my lovely friends especially logan and abby for giving gentle and helpful advice#to curb the brain shut down moments that i just ceased to remember how games worked#and for sitting on calls for hours as i whined and complained my way through edging into each new biome#loved hearing the genuine fear in their voices as i played about 20hrs not knowing i was hearing reapers but never seeing them#and also the comradery of cheering me on when i snapped and decided to go at a warper with a knife
