Can we politely talk about *some* SaneKana shippers...

I would normally address how toxic they tend to be and the ridiculous amount of misinformation they spread, which not only misleads the (mostly new) fans, but also heavily mischaracterizes both Sanemi and Kanae, ESPECIALLY Sanemi though because he's really complex and the misinformation just misses the entire fxcking point of the way he's written and it's enraging to say the least

..however, it's starting to be common knowledge that they're insufferable, but something that is bugging me right now is that they're getting sexualized lately. and almost no one seems to complain.

There's recent VIRAL videos, either animations or cosplays who want to allude that they'd "get freaky" or that Kanae wants to get undressed when he sees him or something...am I overreacting or gagging a little is a fair reaction to this?

They were MINORS.

No matter how much I might not like Kanae as a character, I find it baffling when she's sexualized or mischaracterized by anyone. Kanae was created for Shinobu. Kanae is Shinobu's fuel, her motive, the reason behind her grief and her anger and her overall initial character development and the way she planned her own demise all revolved around her older sister. Kanae exists for Shinobu, not to be any man's love interest.

Let's also be fr, Kanae was more of a mother to Sanemi rather than a love interest, they had heavy platonic subtext in the 1 and half interactions that they had. Romanticizing the Light Novel's interaction specifically, would mean projecting Œdipus complex onto Sanemi, which is absolutely messed up considering the amount of people I've seen justify that with "but it was her hands!" who do you think that touch belongs to? would you think about your dad or any family member if a person you like touched you?

But that's besides the point, I respect the ship per se and I acknowledge it's 100% up to the viewer's interpretation; but if you're one of the shippers who overlooks Sanemi's character, sexualizes and mischaracterizes their bond and water down Kanae's character to "she's the girl that Sanemi likes" AND/OR even spread misinformation and consider them as canon while harassing other shippers then please take several seats.

I'm usually very chill about ships, rarepairs, anything as long as it's legal, but this behavior from shippers is where I draw the line + those ShinoGiyuu shippers who also do the exact same thing to Giyuu and Shinobu, and I kinda like them as a pair so I'm not being biased here.

If you're one of the normal SaneKana shippers don't take it as an attack, it's not about you🫶🏻 as much as my opinion on this ship is complex as I only like them if we consider them as a platonic duo, I totally respect those few sane shippers and multishippers I've encountered

This being said, I hope we can all agree that sexualizing minors is disgusting ⛹🏻‍♀️

What made u like chaluggie so much?

OKAY LONG ANSWER SO HERE’S A TLDR

TL;DR I like chaluggie bc I’m a dirty angst/drama lover also multishipper also it’s gay and cute and I totally see a working dynamic between the three. Also I’m a sucker for redemption esp for characters like Lute…

Long version:

Some backstory is that I started out in the fandom scene making tiktoks, posting chaggie content mostly. Then one day, as I was going through my sounds, trying to find a good one for chaggie, I stumbled upon a sound where I thought wasn’t quite chaggie. But I still wanted to post chaggie, so I added Lute as the other person. I was like hm… what if… luggie was a thing (since Vaggie is gay and Lute and her had SOME sort of tension going on…) Anyways, it was all fun and games until I was three tiktoks in realizing it in fact was not just a funny HC I have of luggie being exes. I very much ship the two. Toxic yuri ftw.

So I ended up making a sad backstory for Lute and how she would have done anything for Vaggie to survive Adam’s wrath for letting a sinner go… including hurting Vaggie herself. What was the question again? Oh yeah. AT THIS POINT, I have been making this OTHER AU I had we will call it the EX!AU where it’s just Exorcist!Vaggie x Emo!Charlie.

For that story, Charlie had (accidentally) caused Vaggie to fall and ultimately lose her eye and wings. It’s an enemies to lovers angsty story. (I promise this has everything to do with chaluggie) Anyways, in one of the arcs, Lute kidnaps Vaggie to Heaven and while talking about it with my friend, I made Lute secretly a softy with a tough exterior. When Charlie stormed Heaven to take Vaggie back, Lute feigned an injury so they could both get away. Vaggie noticed this and was immediately worried for Lute’s safety. After all, they used to fuck in Heaven. (It’s how they bond)

My friend and I were then talking about making Lute experience the Hell Vaggie had told her so much about and decided to make a spinoff series of the AU where she comes down. Now THIS AU (the spin-off) is the chaluggie AU I have. In the spin-off, we initially just thought it’d be funny to make a threesome scene where Charlie dominates Lute while Vaggie watches, so we had to build an entire story around that because Charlie wouldn’t just cheat… and it’s chaggie.

…and then I got grounded and got left to my brainworms. Chaluggie wasn’t exactly in my brain yet but at this point I really liked chaggie AND luggie and wanted to see more. Then I was like ugh, what if they were just all together? So I wouldn’t have to choose between the two. And that’s also when I drew my first piece of NSFW Charlute art. NOW I WAS REALLY INTO IT and a small part of me wanted to get them in a polycule in the AU but I thought I was just crazy and nobody would enjoy/think the same. Especially not my friend. But oh boy was I wrong.

My FRIEND sent me this fanfic and a few fanart of chaluggie to cheer me up since I now wasn’t allowed to post on tiktok or have social media. (will link in just a second, but I’m very sure for those who like chaluggie they already know I’m talking about “Bratty Bottom Lute”; the fanart was by @cartooncorgii on twitter) I will tell you RIGHT now, MY EYES WERE OPENED. I was like people actually LIKE the ship? Another thing to know about me is that I am definitely a rarepair shipper but I also hate it because I get excited to talk about it but most people don’t understand.

That was when I realized I could ship chaluggie and ALSO get content for it. I was absolutely hooked. What could possibly be better than Lute softening up for the Princess of Hell and her ex-lover, Vaggie? My obsession with Lute might also have a play in this but that’s for another story.

Anyways, much like BBL, what was originally supposed to be straight up corn became an elaborate story and we (my friend and I) are now still working on the chaluggie AU as we speak. I occasionally post things that happen in the AU on my twitter, but it’s mostly personal enjoyment.

It’s a great way to have drama/angst (my two favorite things right alongside fluff and hurt/comfort) I also mentioned above that I am a multishipper. I like shipping everyone with my favorite character which was (and still is) Charlie at this point. Thus, I started to ship charlute (from my AU) and it just kind of went downhill from there ngl. I’ll drop below one of my earliest works of my chaluggie AU. I was rambling to my friend about how Lute and Charlie could totally bond over bands and hair dye. That was also when I realized charlute could have chemistry and now instead of Charlie x Vaggie x Lute, it was just all of them mushed into one gay ass relationship (aka chaluggie)

16. Are there any ships you just can’t/don’t understand? What are they?

Yes. Usually they bore me, or I find them bland, or simply the dynamic isn't my cup of tea/is too vanilla/I don't get it. I have a few NOTPs, usually of the "I wouldn't touch this with a ten feet pole" kind that trigger my fight-or-flight response (no hate for the shippers, tho). The first ones that come to mind are Joker/Harley (I love them both, but not together. Just no), Littlefinger/Sansa and Th*amsay from ASOIAF, then blander stuff like Jo/Laurie from Little Women (apparently there's a 150 years long war going on in the fandom lol), F*nnrey from SW (I am a Reylo, and in another world I would have even liked them, but alas, antis exist and the shippers ruined the ship for me), Ichigo/Orihime from Bleach (I used to be a staunch IchiRuki fan, so you can guess my feelings about the manga ending lol, even if I've not been in the fandom for many years and now I don’t care that much tbh), Eleven/Clara from Doctor Who, Harry/Ginny from HP, Alucard/Seras from Hellsing (especially the manga/OVAs; the anime, maybe that’s a different story), Matt/Karen from Daredevil… But they're very few. I'm a multishipper and can get behind almost everything, especially if a fic is well-written. Believe me, I've read and enjoyed some weird stuff. Usually it's not that I hate some pairings or I am anti X ship, I simply don't care lmao. It's more of a *shrugs* whatever reaction than anything else, really. I don’t even block content, I genuinely don’t even care when they cross my dash. Go figure lmao.

17. Are there any popular ships that you just don’t like? What are they?

There are a few, yes! I deliberately avoided to mention them in the previous answer, so I wouldn't have to repeat myself. 

First of all, Jon/Daenerys from ASOIAF; I like both characters (I especially love Dany to death, she's one of my favorite female characters ever), but… I swear it's not for the incest (that should've made it a little more interesting in my eyes), it's just that I don't care lol. Also Dean/Castiel from SPN; I remember that when I watched the show I couldn't understand the hype. Also, most recently, Geralt/Jaskier from The Witcher.

And… please, please, @villainsmatter, don't shoot me, but I first got into the Hannibal fandom through The Silence of the Lambs when I was 14 and back then the NBC show wasn't a thing yet, so I've never cared much for Hannibal/Will. In the books their relationship is very different from the show; basically, it's Clarice Starling who plays this role for Hannibal (and again, the last Hannibal book where the titular cannibal and his favorite FBI agent hook up and live happily ever after was published in 1999). That said, no hate for the show, the shippers, or even the ship itself. (Also, multishipping is a thing! And it's great.) Hannigr*m is one of those cases of “I get it, I really do, but for some unfathomable reason I can't get behind it”. Probably because Clannibal has been such a formative OTP for me in my young teen years, so I can't ship them with anyone else but each other. Which is rare for me, I assure you that I can ship almost anything.

I also don't care for most of the usual romcom/YA pairings (for example, The Hunger Games love triangle was the least interesting thing about the whole trilogy): I love romance, but apparently my tastes are weird, and most of them are so boring anyway.

18.  What is your favorite unpopular ship?

As in, rarepair that nobody gives a fuck about? I have a lot of those, so I won't talk at length about them all, but if I'd get to choose only one… Tyrion/Daenerys from ASOIAF. I've been shipping them like crazy (me and like, 2 other people in the whole fandom) since the ADWD release, well before they officially met up in the show. They're probably two of the ASOIAF characters who share more parallelisms with each other, and in GoT it got confirmed that Tyrion harbored romantic feelings for Dany in the shitty last episode, but God, it was handled so badly (like everything else). It was also insane that no one could "see it" when Peter Dinklage had clearly stated in the interviews that Tyrion was "smitten" with Dany, and kept looking at her like that. I don't want to sound like the general anti and be like "if you don't ship this you're x-ist!!!!" because that's not the case, but I can't shake the feeling that had Tyrion looked more like his able-bodied brother, everyone would - not ship it, but realize that yes, he was falling in love with her, and no, it wasn't platonic. The general quality of the show's writing didn’t help, though, and D&D can’t, like, write romance (see also how they kept erasing Tyrion's sexuality and general complexity from Season 5 onward). But the subtext was there.

GRRM is famously a big fanboy of Beauty and the Beast, and Tyrion is his favorite character, so I wonder how different their relationship will be in the next books (if they ever get released, that is, which I'm starting to doubt). I don't expect any kind of happier or kinder resolution, though; I'm just curious.

Am i alone: or, all my femslash ships ranked by how alone i am

Note: I made this post last night bc I was feeling sad about a couple of my ships being extreme rarepairs, and it cheered me up. Slightly (I love statistics, and some here are quite positive). Whether it will be interesting to literally anyone else is a fuckign question

I’ve decided, for my own amusement, hubris, and depression’s sake, to make a very unofficial study of how alone I am in my various femslash ships. Therefore, in this post I will list my ships from least alone to most alone. Methodology: I’m seeing what percentage of the fanfic on AO3 is written by me (by # of fics, not wordcount), and how many other authors wrote the remaining fics. For this reason, “my femslash ships” may be defined as ships for which I have written one or more fanfic on AO3. Also, I’m counting all fics tagged with the ship, whether the ship is central to the fic or not.

Is this study useful to literally anyone else? probs not, but when do i ever do anything for any reason but my own pleasure.

Azula/Ty Lee*--I wrote only 1/263, or 0.3%, of all fics for this ship. What a beautiful, populated ship. There’s a new fic every week, basically. #blessed.

Amanita Caplan/Nomi Marks--I’ve written 1/192 fics for this ship, or 0.5%. I’m not gonna bother to count how many other authors there are. A lot of these fics have it as a secondary ship but still, it’s great.

El/Max--I wrote 1/142 fics for this ship, or 0.7% of all fics. Not gonna count authors. Unfortunately I wrote that one ElMax fic for a prompt; I’m too much of a Luke/Max shipper to enjoy this less than rare pair.

Chloe Bourgeois/Marinette Dupain-Cheng--I’ve written 2/146 fics for this ship, or 1.3%. Again, not counting other authors. Look how populated it is! I wish I was motivated to actually ship this but I’m kind of eh on it.

Lila Stangard/Rebecca Sutter--I wrote 1/29 or 3% of fics for this ship. Twenty-one other authors. Look, I like this ship, but I’m actually surprised it attracted this many people.

Caroline Farrell/Bennett Halverson--I wrote 1/23 or 4% of fics for this ship. About thirteen other authors. This is probs the most popular f/f ship in the Dollhouse fandom.

Cassie/Rachel--I wrote 1/17 fics for this ship, or 6% of all fics. Thirteen other authors. I think there are lots of authors who stop by but not many who stay, much like me. I should stop by again some time.

Nancy Wheeler/Kali Prasad--I wrote 2/30 fics, or 7%. Twelve other authors. A lot of people come back for seconds here, or more! It’s a nice, semi-populated ship.

Jordan Baker/Daisy Buchanan*--I have written 3/34 fics, or 9%. 23 other authors. It’s nice! but people still only read for this fic once in a blue moon.

Sun Bak/Riley Blue--I wrote 1/11 fics for this ship, or 9%. Eight other authors. Everyone dabbles, no one stays, like me, but it’s great. When I checked the tag there was a fic there I hadn’t read yet! amazing.

Sun Bak/Soo-jin---I wrote 1/10 fics for this ship, or 10%. Seven other authors. Sense8 is a nice fandom for femslash tbh, it’s warm and friendly.

Jeri Hogarth/Jessica Jones--I wrote 1/10 fics, or 10%. Eight other authors. Why don’t more people ship Jessica with a canon lesbian? Is Trish that big of a draw?

Violet Cross/Amelia Scanwell--I wrote 1/13 fics for this ship, or 7%. Seven other authors. Y’all, this is a canon ship, more of y’all should be writing for it.

Frenchy/Sandy Olsson--I wrote 1/5 fics for this ship, or 20%. Four other authors. Grease fandom’s pretty small, I’m surprised this ship is even as big as it is.

Empress Chabi/Mei Lin*--I wrote 1/5 fics for this ship, or 20%. @fucktheg0ds is bae. One other author who isn’t here. What a good ship.

Wendy Corduroy/Pacifica Northwest--I wrote 1/4 fics, or 25%. Three other authors. It’s kind of crack so this does not surprise me.

Adelle DeWitt/Echo--I’ve written 2/6 fics, or 33%. Three of the other fics are less than 500 words, but who cares? there are 3 other contributing authors, which is nice.

Lady Caroline Howard/Charlotte Wells--1/3 fics I wrote, or 33%. I’ve heard Charlotta has a new f/f ship so I doubt it’ll get much more attention.

Mick/Kali Prasad--I wrote 2/6 fics, or 33%. Four other contributing authors. This could be a homey rarepair if we actually talked to each other and were motivated to write more.

Acolyte/Radiant Goddess--I wrote 1/3 fics for this ship, or 33%. Two other authors. Rare as hell.

Adelle DeWitt/Caroline Farrell*--I have written 2/4 fics, or 50%. Two other contributing authors, but no fics but mine since 2011. I’m fucking alone. But I have seen some people talking about the ship in a recent exchange, so who knows?

Mei Lin/Jing Fei*--I’ve written 5/8 fics, or 62%. One other author but it’s @fucktheg0ds and she’s awesome so I’m gonna say I’m not alone. But also, if anyone would care to join, please do!

Jordan Baker/Myrtle Wilson--I have written: 2/3 fics, or 66%. One other contributing author. I’m very alone. (but one of these fics was written for an exchange request, so someone else out there cares.)

Christine Daae/Carlotta Giudicelli*--I wrote 14/17 fics for this ship, or 82%. Three other authors. I’m not alone but I might be the only one stanning. 

Meg Giry/Carlotta Giudicelli--I have written 2/2 fics, or 100%. I’m not even sure I ship this, but I cared enough to write two fics. If you ship this you will probably be alone.

Kala Dandekar/Lila Facchini*--I wrote 1/1 fics for this ship, or 100%. Fucking join me in hell, bitches.

Concluding thoughts:

For y’all femslash shippers--If you want to go play with some nicely populated ships, join TyZula or Nominita or ElMax or Chlonette. There are lots of fics. My personal fave of these options is TyZula, but who am I to tell you what to do? On the other hand, if you want to make me a very happy bitch, pls write me some fic for: Kala/Lila! Carlotta/Christine! Jordan/Daisy (there can always be more)! And! Mei Lin/Jing Fei and Mei Lin/Chabi! These are my personal favorite femslash rarepairs. I also do recommend Kali/Nancy and any femslash involving Sun Bak because what babes, and you’ll probably get a little more love than with my super-rares.

For myself--I should really write more of basically all these ships, but especially my super-rare pairs, Kali/Nancy, and Sun Bak femslash.

Did anyone enjoy my pointless study? oh well. if anyone wants to make statistics like these for themselves about their rarepairs, first, tag me, and second, know that if you’re a multishipper like me it takes a lot longer than you’d think.

Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for being a part of #VoltronPositivity. It's nice to see us multishippers/rarepairs standing up for each other. You'd think we'd ship and let ship in peace, hell, everything is canon since there are alt universes. Tbh, I'm dreading the day any of the paladins get a canon s/o. It will be messy. I can't see why we still have these issues (esp since our fandom is mostly mature adults).VLD fans seem to forget the saying 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'.

also, i’ve like... cried over the way people have come together to stand up for each other during all this. that’s definitely made this whole ordeal so much easier compared to other times. i was just talking with someone and we talked about how it’s reassuring to know that people agree with you and that you’re not just blowing things out of proportion. i’m really just... happy there’s some solidarity on this issue! thank you for supporting us!

and yeah man... as much as i literally can’t wait for the show to end (i’m sad too but also... i want to r e s t) i’m... not excited for when/if any pairings are confirmed especially bigger ships. there will just be so much fighting between the shippers about it and i’m just.. not here for it. it’s got nothing to do with whether or not i think a ship should or shouldn’t canon or if i think anyone ‘deserves’ or doesn’t deserve their ship and everything to do with me wanting to live a peaceful life. the thing is, my life won’t even be peaceful if no ships are made canon because we all know people are going to get upset about that too, but hey, i can cope with that.

really i just want an open ended conclusion that does all the characters justice in their progression and stories! ships be damned!! give me character arcs!

and yeah, this fandom definitely has a lot of issues that are... difficult to discuss really. it’s just a complex situation with many valid concerns and viewpoints and really i don’t hold it against anyone for being upset or angry. it’s how people act on their emotions that matters, myself included!
