I feel like explaining how Branzy's mannerisms look like in my head is SO. HARD bc he feels like SUCH a peculiar and specific type of person, that even if I TRIED there wouldn't be a fully correct way to string words together to paint the picture. But fuck it we ball — lemme try anyway

(ofc, I'm here talking about his character and personality as he portrays himself in his videos; the same goes for any other youtuber I namedrop as I'm yapping. I don't feel like I have to clarify this, but still. covering my own ass out here, media literacy, yadda yadda, you get it)

In the LifeSteal videos I've watched where he participates/is the main focus of (the Heart Factory + Amusement Park saga mostly, so not a lot lol) he has this... This showmanship, this stage presence, like he's standing alone on the stage floor, the spotlight's on him and the little earpiece hung on him has told him "it's showtime." It's like he's the opening number for the Broadway Musical you came to watch, like he's the circus master of the show; he's all you can focus on once he starts talking, really: he's hilarious and charismatic, disarming with that devilish charm of his, that has endeared him to the deadliest player of the server — even if you never see his face, you can hear his smile every time he talks.

For having been on a Minecraft server that prides itself in death, destruction and preying on players' insecurities before shaking hands on a good season played, Branzy wears his emotions very plainly in how he speaks: he doesn't hide his fear, or his amazement, his excitement, his bloodlust. It's how he is, of course — hiding who you are is hard, but Branzy also plays this all up in his favor: faking his reactions when necessary, blatantly able to disregard his current emotional state to match the attitude of those around him (main example being him matching Clown's attitude even through his own fear of the guy), being able to lie through his teeth about pretty important things (like the state of Carnival Mode to Squiddo at the end of season 5), and others.

His poker face is a smile — all crow's feet and charming show of teeth, something happy and elated as he shows his newest killing contraption and explains it out to his soon-to-be victims. And they fall for it hook, line, sinker. A practiced dance everyone follows Branzy's lead in, subconsciously or otherwise. Because how deadly can it be if it's Branzy who made it?

Not just that, but he's very energetic and has a brand of attitude and sass that kinda reminds me of JT Music in The Details in the Devil (stay with me. I SWEAR this makes sense) — it's the over-the-top singing, the way he goes from a higher pitch to a lower one, the way JT Music's voice rasps around the edges; it all has the same vibe and attitude to me as Branzy's showman persona: all glamour for the camera, a big smile to attract new clientele, charm that oozes out of every pore and you don't even notice that it's a deal with the devil you're making. Until he's gone and you're left to pick up the pieces — even then, sometimes you just don't. notice.

A maybe (hopefully) easier to picture example

To me, in a sense, Branzy feels like the in-between missing link of AM from I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream and Caine from The Amazing Digital Circus: all the bloodlust, anger, and sadistic tendencies from AM, and all the genuine, kind, goofy showmaster personality of Caine — a weird combo, for sure, but Caine is already based off of AM so like, thought it was as appropriate of a comparison I could make; especially bc Caine is a ringmaster, and Branzy does give ringmaster vibes to me so idk

Ofc, this is him at his peak, in his element, where he controls the playing chips — he's playing 4D chess and everyone's using checkers pieces. This is him gathering and casually using the power and influence he lords over the server — I mean, have you seen how ppl react to his mere appearance?? People love him, that's where he thrives: where people have an attachment to Branzy, Branzy has power; people kept coming back to the rollercoaster bc it was fun and a challenge and bc it was Branzy who made it — throw the credit onto Clown, ManePear, FlameFrags, any other pvp-skilled player, and watch as people run the other way. Branzy is the perfect combo of charismatic, charming, boyfailure-coded, somehow still competent, and fun to amass server-wide cred that wouldn't be broken no matter how many lives he claims via his machinery.

Clown is dangerous, sure — he's good at pvp and intimidating, he can do his fair share of manipulation when needed, but he's ultimately relatively easy to avoid: he follows a set of rules and while he doesn't vocalize them, if you observe him enough you'll eventually learn them. You'll eventually understand what the triggers are, which convo topics are best to avoid and how to best gain favor with him.

Branzy, though? He's very much a loose canon — beyond keeping his good relationship with Clown for protection (and bc he cares, let's be honest here) and whatever he deems fun today, I doubt he cares about much else; these two things are THE. MOST important to him, and there's little you can personally do to control either, if anything at all.

Branzy is SO interesting to me bc he's outwardly all smiles, happy-go-lucky in a sense and a coward — everyone knows this, it ain't no secret, and if it ever was meant to be we've left that station SEVERAL seasons ago. Yet inside there's a raging beast that begs to be released — the only reason we don't see it too often is LITERALLY bc Branzy is HORRIBLE at pvp; we STILL see it though: in how he encourages people to keep trying his deadly park rides, how he dangles prizes in front of their faces so sweetly and so casually so they keep coming back. In how he doesn't hesitate to betray his team so he can gain favor with Clown, a character he believes will be a bigger protection than his team was beforehand. In how he didn't even bat an eye as he bold-face lied to Squiddo about Carnival Mode being broken when it was most beneficial for Clown for it to "be broken". In how he casually makes a bragging joke about having easily killed two of the strongest players without lifting a finger to battle, because they wanted to play his carnival games.

Branzy has two loyalties: first to Clown and second to himself. Everyone else be damned

So coming back to the mannerisms thing — in my head he's extra extra: I'm talking "dangled upside down from a tree branch to scare someone as he introduced them all to the Chicken Launchers" type of extra, I'm talking "he did a handstand on the rollercoaster cart (with his elytra on, he isn't stupid I swear) as it jumped over the tiny lava pit to introduce people to the attraction" type of extra, I'm talking "he designed a mechanical crossbow he could wear on his arm so he could shoot the door locking mechanism trigger at the bigtop tent the most dramatic way possible" type of extra. He's a theater kid at heart, I just know it — he's dramatic and extra and so fun, so of course he'd have fun with it all! He's an adrenaline junkie (honestly? Why else is he still a sucker for Clown?? Adrenaline junkie + that's his work bf) and he will do a dramatic full split in front of Fleshy's to introduce people to the food stand and you cannot change my mind

So. Yea! In my head Branzy's mannerisms are a combo of showman enthusiasm, theater kid dramatics, acrobatics fueled by his adrenaline junkie ways, and random rubberhose-like body movements that are uncanny on like. an ACTUAL normal human body bc he reminds me of Bendy and I. Don't know. How else. To cope with it, so deal with it.

When it comes to Lifesteal Squiddo- or any character on any SMP- you have to consider the doylist perspective (out of universe) versus the watsonian perspective. (In-universe)

Lifesteal Squiddo is just a very dramatized version of my real life self... Like, how in real life when something mundanely bad happens, you might exaggerate and mime fainting for a laugh; that's what Lifesteal Squiddo is. I do that because it's entertaining and it's my job to entertain you. When something bad happens, I don't care, it's just our jobs- but to Lifesteal Squiddo it's the end of the world. When something good happens, I'm probably pretty happy, but to Lifesteal Squiddo it's the greatest thing ever.

With the nuke, the entire time I was thinking "How can I work this into a video? This will be a dramatic plot twist, people will like this..." and that sort of thing. But to Lifesteal Squiddo there is no Youtube, so she was just angry.

In real life, on my first day on Lifesteal, I didn't really understand that it was sort of a roleplay thing because I'd never properly played on an SMP before. So, I was nice to Ashswag because he'd added me to the server and I felt like I was in his debt, plus I wanted him to be on my team or whatever. But then I ended up with a character who had been nice to Ashswag for no reason, and I'm like, "okay, maybe he's their hero or something. Maybe they look up to him. Maybe she sees something in him that nobody else does". Squiddo was okay with Ashswag killing her because she was so ashamed that she'd disappointed somebody who she so badly wanted to befriend. In real life, I was okay with it because it meant I finally had an excuse to log off lifesteal to go to sleep ahaha

Although, I actually was happy when Ashswag gave me hearts, I really did think he was going to kill me. I'm glad I get to keep playing. I couldn't sleep that night because I kept smiling... That's probably the only time Lifesteal Squiddo and myself have felt the exact same thing

Anyway, with the election stuff, I thought the entire thing was brilliant!! I'm so so happy that 4CVIT and Red won, especially after I dropped that horrible video about him (which, please don't actually believe it's real!!) I just kept thinking, he's going to get such an insanely good video from this. For Squiddo though, from a doylist perspective, Ashswag voting Mapic and then banning me/her is him drumming up suspense. It's our job, he's good at his job, it makes sense. But from a watsonian perspective, Ashswag has suddenly switched up on Squiddo for absolutely no reason, which is going to make her very sad. Hopefully that explains it well enough!

What's forgiven for players on lower hearts and what's not for those on higher is so interesting to consider when looking at lifesteal. Everyone's a hypocrite, and there's really nothing wrong with that, but it's so interesting to see the extent to which this hypocrisy spreads and no one seems to notice. I feel like it's always been particularly obvious with Zam, and because I'm mainly a zam watcher, I'll kinda be yapping from his pov.

Off the top of my head is Focus. Betrayed the entire server, blew up spawn, all for material items, hearts. They literally made up an excuse for the betrayal AFTER being asked to betray its hallarious and it's in Manes video so people should know about it yet the only people willing to exact revenge on them for this are low heart players. Kab, bacon, etc. For everyone else, it's looked down on. When the empire killed them, people looked down on them, it's SQUIDDO. After all, killing them is easy. Who cares if they're on twenty hearts or not. Who cares if every single one of their actions during their alliance was cruel and manipulative. Zam refuses to kill FOCUS, sees it as something he simply can't do. Why? Because they're weaker than him.

And zam. When Mane, Flame, and Wemmbu blow up spawn to get their fights, he ends up basically going against his oath. And ironically, mane and flame specifically barely ever fight low heart players after reaching 20 hearts, instead tending to toy with them more than anything. Mane especially. Flame returning an eye for an eye often. Focus betrays Zam and helps the people blowing up spawn, yet he can't bring himself to harm any of them. 4c is an odd case, but Zam isn't fully aware of that fact. Zam only fights back against those stronger than him. The reason is pretty obvious, all gay joker did was terrorise everyone, and because of his skill level, most of his victims were lower heart players. And zam, trying to distance himself from that person, can't bring himself to kill. Can't exert his power over weaker players as he did when he was gay joker because he's trying to move on from that person.

Then Mapicc. Every single action he takes is crtisized, whether it be by the viewers or other players, and it's lowkey insane. This can be attributed to most of the players on the server being relatively new, so they just don't understand him and most of his loudest viewers being mane and flame viewers. But Mapicc constantly fighting to protect his team and often the weaker players on the server and even spawn itself but eveytime, it's because he wants hearts, he wants power, he's being petty and cruel. On Bacon's recent livestreams while rebuilding spawn, he clarifies himself that the whole mawn thing WAS because he cared about spawn and how it looked. Looking back in older videos, he's constantly protecting the more innocent players. When Wemmbu jumped and killed bacon during the building of qdd, Mapicc was already there, circling him before potting up and demanding the heart back, but it's easy enough to assume it was for the heart. That's all. And always sticking those fights out, the amount of honour he holds, taking the death when it would be so easy to run. Even when he loses. He's always bitter about them, and he's a sore loser, but he still takes the losses. Mapicc is mischatachterised a lot, and it's sometimes simply because he's one of the stronger players on the server.

Squiddos also mischarachterized often because they are a weaker player. Like give bro some credit they did betray that team for hearts and they would do it again. All of their lifestelal videos but s5 finale have been in relation to mischievous heart stealing activity's on the smp.

Even when looking at Mane, Flame and Wemmbus treatment of Zam. It's let slide because he's strong enough to get back on his feet and fight again. Because maybe after he tries a couple 100 times he'll get a singular kill on them and have a conclusion to his video. But weaker players like Cube? They'd be made fun of for doing anything against him. Even against Zam they face criticism, with Zam constantly taunting them because zam shit talking when he's loosing a fight is his biggest strength. When something is acceptable or not completely depends on the strength of the players.

I feel like an exception to this tends to be baconwaffles. Always on low hearts, but whenever someone kills him, it's simply not looked down upon because it's bacon. He probably deserved it.

But lifesteals about hearts and everyone keeps talking morals and then there's rek. Strong enough to stay alive against the better pvpers but weak enough that a kill on a chungus isn't criticised. Something reks been quoting often is that "it's lifestelal." Nonchalant. That's how it is. You can't be bitter if I kill you, and I can't be bitter if I die. He has the same treatment towards weaker players and strong players. He sees injustice when it's there, but ultimately, "it's lifesteal." He doesn't get involved.

Maybe it's just for stronger players to be criticised for killing weaker players. And weaker players will be praised for succeeding in killing a better player, even if they succeed through dishonorable means. Even if the stronger player is honourable. Maybe being a centrist is better. Lifesteal is lifeateal. There is no place for honour and morals amongst weaker players. Yet with stronger players, it's sometimes just not a good video for them to be constantly beating the weaker players. They need to back off.

Then there's the videos produced. The power imbalances on the server. What makes lifesteal, lifesteal? Every time you kill someone, you steal one of their hearts. So it's pvp. Figthing for what you believe in. What if you can't fight at all? What if you don't want to fight? You can't fight? You trap, you scam, you build for hearts, you leave the server? You don't want to fight? You learn why you have to. There can never be peace on lifesteal. And that means there will always be injustice on lifesteal. Lifesteal isn't fair, and some people crash out about it, and others train and rise to the top, and others try to change it and fail. Content keeps the server fair and gives stronger players an incentive to have morals even simply for the sake of the end of a friends video. In many ways, content keeps lifesteal balanced enough for people to enjoy playing. Maybe hypocrisy in relation to stronger players doesn't matter because they're the winners on this server. They dont need to try to stay rich.

For sake of balance on lifesteal, in a way, the hypocrisy is a key part of keeping the server functional.

I've actually had this question answered before and I'm still just as unsure if I'm the best person to consult (I am going to just copy most of what I said with minor changes bc Ive learned more ✨)

Ok so disclaimer time! I pick favorites and stick with them and have accepted the consequences of not knowing anything outside their povs (also I'm a yt girlie at heart so i lowkey rely on videos than livestreams)

So Lifesteal is still very much a half foot in, half foot out deal due to most of the events usually happening on livestreams so I’m always a bit late on the current happenings.

If you dont mind just throwing yourself into the lore without knowing jackshit, I'd recommend watching PrinceZam, Kaboodle, Pangi, or Derapchu (for livestreams specifically) - I'm sure there's other folks, but I do know that they tend to stream fairly often.

In terms of youtube videos (and slightly being able to catch up on lore) I'd recommend Squiddo (who is a personal favorite of mine, most of her videos tend to be within the half hour mark and are incredibly entertaining the whole way through) as well as Rekrap, JumperWho, Roshambo (though not much for s6), Spokeishere, and Flamefrags. (There are others, as well I'm just listing who come sto mind that)

If you want to get into older seasons I'd recommend watching Branzycraft as he had a fairly regular upload schedule. A lot of lifesteal folks also tend to post longass videos detailing their server journey - though this is often towards the end of seasons or even a bit after. I also recently discovered that saints exist within the fandom and some important events of arcs (such as the eclipse fed/wormhole from s4 have been clipped together into one video).

I have realized (and this may be my own doing) that there’s usually gonna be unexplained gaps in knowledge which is something I’ve just kinda accepted tbh. (Like in general, especially considering the nature of the server and everyone playing 5D chess)

I also tend to doomscroll through character specific tags on tumblr and usually people can be found rambling about events/characterization which is a bit like putting together a puzzle but it slowly comes together (which a piece or two missing)

Whoopsie. she absolutely loses it and unleashes full force relative power, opening a portal to the void. And she gets to drop an f bomb because I think she deserves it. Especially since character wise she nearly lost someone important AGAIN, and she is loyal to A FAULT … but it’s fine. It’s F I N E , HA HA HA.

Honestly my favorite little guys gotta be ClownPierce, Branzy, Squiddo, Kaboodle and PrinceZam, they just play around with the title like it's hot potato but the point of the game is to hold onto the flaming root vegetable for as long as possible. kinda like american football! /silly

I love that Clown is kinda the definition of "looks like could kill you, but it's a cinnamon roll" bc he's really sweet irl but he THRIVES off the scared whimpers of his enemies lmao I mean, that "have fun you guys~!" he threw over his shoulder at the players in Karl's video with him says it ALL. he's also just good at pvp and that's always fun to watch. Branzy bc he's like, Clown's OPPOSITE: "looks like a cinnamon roll, could kill you" — he's SO deranged and psychotic /aff /vpos I saw a tumblr post once that said something something what about neurotic horse significant other and in the tags somebody (clownscasino my beloved /p) mentioned Branzy and yea, that's really him alright. He's also very showman! Very fun to see his videos and how he talks and expresses himself! He has a very particular and specific voice, pattern of speech, word usage that's hard to nail down but is SO fitting to who he is fr. Squiddo bc they're SO funny and chill and silly! She can turn anything into something fun and I love that actually. They're not afraid of trying and she can be conniving if they wish to, even though her thing is more being silly and goofy — whatever they and Ash has me DEAD ON THE FLOOR, SOBBING AND GASPING FOR AIR /VPOS

Kaboodle bc she's strong-willed and gives SO. MUCH. LITTLE SISTER ENERGY that it's low-key radioactive — very relatable of her, killerbunnies my beloved sibling dynamic. She's high spirited and relatively extroverted and I low-key kinds wish I were s little more like her (I'd be a menace, god made me afraid of social interactions for a reason /silly) And PrinceZam,,,, oh PrinceZam, the gender playdoh himself,,,,,,,,, idk I think he's really fun! He's down to clown with gender fuckery and plays some of the most interesting characters ever! (the tipping point into watching his videos actively for me was his role in PVP Civilization, if you were curious). Especially I've been meaning to get into watching his LifeSteal stuff from this current season (s6) bc I think the struggle with his morality he's trying to depict with his character is one of the most interesting things I've found lately (he's sworn not to kill. on LIFESTEAL) also unironically when I drew the Pretty Kitty Princess I low-key spent a WHOLE WEEK going "damn. that's GOOD good" and not bc the drawing was particularly great, but bc the Pretty Kitty Princess is genuinely PEAK gender envy to me lmao

any recommendations on how to get into lifesteal? i've seen a few videos out of context but idk where/who to start with

Hmm, I’m not quite sure how to answer to be entirely honest (lowkey bc I’m also trying to figure that out and I tend to keep to the same people). Lifesteal has always been like half in half out kinda deal due to most of the events happening on livestreams so I’m always a bit late on the current happenings.

But!! I do recommend watching some of the folks who put videos up on YouTube (Squiddo is a personal favourite of mine, most of her videos tend to be within the half hour mark and are incredibly entertaining the whole way through - I do know that Rekrap, JumperWho, Kaboodle, Framefrags, and Mapicc tend to keep up with their yt channel as well. I’d also recommend Branzycraft if you want to get into some of the older seasons. (There’s a couple others as well but I don’t tend to watch them so I can’t say for sure)

I have realized (and this may be my own doing) that there’s usually gonna be unexplained gaps in knowledge which is something I’ve just kinda accepted tbh. (Like in general, especially considering the nature of the server and everyone playing 5D chess)

I also tend to doomscroll through character specific tags on tumblr and usually people can be found rambling about events/characterization which is a bit like putting together a puzzle but it slowly comes together (which a piece or two missing)
