Horror's nightmare
Horror doesn't think much on his past anymore, but his nightmares often resurface the guilt he's buried about the idea that he could have prevented it all somehow, even if it came at the cost of his own life.
Thankfully, Nightmare is here to make him a hot drink to calm his nerves and promise him a visit to his brother when the sun is up, because Papyrus will always be very glad to see his brother alive and visiting (and as sleepy as ever).

I'm not ready to shut up about Aveline and Carver--so, when you go see Aveline in Act 1, you can catch up with her a little bit and that's where this conversation can happen:
Aveline: "It's just one more change, though. The real end for me was Ostagar. What about you, Carver? You were there. Do you feel something similar?" Carver: No. Aveline: All right, then. Bit of a tit, your brother.
I wanted to see what she would say if Carver isn't in the party. Instead, she says this:
Aveline: Carver was there. I imagine he feels something similar. If he allows it.
......well, at least she didn't call him a tit?
#dragon age 2#da2#carver hawke#aveline vallen#she's slightly nicer to him when he's not there but she's still like 'maybe he feels something similar but probably pretends not to'#like i'm not gonna pretend that carver doesn't bottle any feelings--he doesn't openly talk about bethany a lot for a reason#but to suggest he pretends to be unfeeling about things like ostagar is incorrect like he CLEARLY feels a lot about it#because he associates the battle at ostagar with losing his home and sister to the darkspawn#after playing as a warrior hawke who is best friends with aveline i do have a little more insight into why she might think this about carve#when hawke is a warrior they were at ostagar. they share that traumatic experience with aveline and if they're friends#they discuss it in a way that i think aveline *wants* y'know? but with carver he doesn't respond the way she wants him to#so she gets frustrated since even if she tried to talk to hawke about it... hawke wasn't there. hawke doesnt KNOW what ostagar#was like but carver does... but it's like aveline is ready to assume the worst of carver a lot of the time?#like 'carver doesn't talk about it because he's a tit who pretends not to feel' is the vibe i get from this but aveline...#that's like calling you a tit because you don't want to openly discuss all your feelings about your dead husband#listen aveline and carver are so similar but they have such key differences like they both survived the horror of ostagar#and lost a loved one to darkspawn while fleeing lothering AND they both blame hawke for it to a degree#even though they both know that's not right and that it wasn't really hawke's fault#they're both stubborn warriors with daddy issues looking to find their place#and when it comes to flirting? well i don't think carver's as bad as aveline#but i played MotA i know all about 'you could tame its wild heart'#but the key differences come in how they the end the game y'know? especially if carver's on the friendship path as a warden#i still haven't made him a templar but something tells me he ends up more on the same road as aveline#vs when he's a grey warden and able to be away from kirkwall and find a place on his own#y'all i could write a whole essay on aveline and carver but i paused my game to write this so i should go back to that sksksk

I was wondering if you’d ever thought about a crossover between Silent Hill and Assassin’s Creed. Like, what if there is some Isu tech under the town, something that the people are somewhat aware of and have an idea of how to use which leads to them making Alessa.
She’s like Desmond, high percentage Isu DNA without being sage level. The monsters and warping of the perception of reality is a side effect of what the machine was supposed to do, which is a failed experiment to essentially rebirth the Isu after the flare. Alessa can use it, that’s how she becomes Cheryl and then Heather.
Like, I don’t know what you could really do with it. Maybe have whatever they were trying to summon be an Isu that was going to overwrite Alessa in a similar way to how being a sage would work. Or maybe they just don’t know what it’s doing and keep accidentally bothering the Reader who told Alessa how and when to escape.
Mostly I just thought it might be funny to play around with considering some of the silly endings in the Silent Hill series.
So we’ll focus on the Silent Hill aspect for this idea and, of course, we’ll be making use of the lore lightly for this one.
How about instead of some kind of an Isu tech, a temple is actually underneath Silent Hill?
We’ll place the temple underneath what would later be known as Old Silent Hill district/area with the Balkan Church being the actual center of the temple underneath.
That’s why the Order (no, not the Templars, the cult in Silent Hill) pay close attention to Midwich Elementary School. That school is part of Old Silent Hill and so the Order believes that it is part of the ‘center’ of the house of their god.
The temple itself is in ruins and the Isu tech that had been placed there for experimentation had been damaged.
Slowly but surely seeping through everything, the soil, the air… the water…
The device was one of the failed projects to save the Isus from destruction. To be ‘reborn’ in a new body if they die.
There were two problems with this though:
1) The materials necessary for the new body would not be enough for number of Isus expected to die when the Solar Flare hits
2) The only way for the device to revive someone with all their memories intact (because what use was it to be given new life when they don’t have any memories of their previous life?), the device had to always record every single memory and thought of every Isus.
1 was a major problem that led to the shelving of the project. 2, on the other hand, was being tested in a smaller scale.
An area of which the device would record every single thing.
However, when the device was damaged during the Solar Flare and subsequent destruction of the temple/facility, the device began to record everything with Isu DNA.
And humans, on an average, have 0.0002% to 0.0005% of Isu DNA. It should be inconsequential but not to the device.
It still counted.
And that device didn’t just stop at recording memories and thoughts, it continued to record even dreams.
… and nightmares.
.
Now, here’s where we decide what route we go for:
Route 1: All the monsters and nightmares are real in Silent Hill
In this route, we’ll set up the device to have a learning AI that has been trying to fix major problem 1. But because it was damaged, the AI decided that ‘transforming’ the living beings in Silent Hill to bodies that can withstand the Solar Flare would be a better alternative. Of course, it has to make sure the memories are there but that only ends up mutating the bodies even further because it can no longer distinguish between memories and nightmares/dreams.
Route 2: The monsters and nightmares are all inside their heads
In this route, the device is the one making the nightmares feel too real for everyone. This is not the intended purpose and is actually because the device has been damaged too much at this point that it is ‘changing’ the brain chemistry and neurons of those who stay in Silent Hill.
Regardless of which route we take, the AI governing the device is the god the cult worships, Alessa was created with enough Isu genes that she was seen as an 'admin' by some kind (but trying to telepathically connect with her caused her to break), and Desmond has been reincarnated as Mira.

I love horror games they are high key a core part of my existence and artistic inspiration. And as such it does mean I an unsettled by werid things not really average stuff. It's kind of hard to be scared of many normal things working customer service and also having the habit of breaking stuff down cause Ohoho lore moment.
Grotesque doesn't mean scary, features or startlement doesn't equate to scary. It's association for one person a thing can be terrifying while another well boring.
It's I think a reason why Japanese visual horror novels work so well is that they don't rely on purely apperence of things to make someone scared. There's more to it. It's not just jumpscares but a slow or quick imposing dread and stakes placed and given to you the player. That being said that is probably the reason beside ohoho story and design that I adore Shiin/Death mark. Yep always comes back to this series.
Like I do not equate scary monsters with fear but the designs and love of details and story written and designed is a bit to good that I have to make sure to not be in a can have psychosis go nuts cause the game is a bit to good at design my brain goes ah here let's do this in real life. There's a level of skill to making designs so fearful that they stick in your brain long after you play a game. It has to stand out and man Death Mark actually nails that.

like i mean i know technically how to like ive made four characters
its just do i give a fuck about them thats problem because the answer is no i'm a bad mother
i just can't bring myself to care about them enough to like do anything with them
so they are useless to me as they are now
#even though from what ive seen of people talking about indie vns lately#alot of people are hella annoying about not having anything 'gross' in them#it's not a vn technically but like people acting like it's weird that a horror game had incest#and god would that be annoying#thats not even going into the whole lgbt media is never good enough thing that some people have going on which is just very gross to me#like i know anything i make would label me as problematic as hell#i think it also doesn't help that my taste in vn love interests do skew more um- not the kinds of characters that get included much anymore#like i look at indie vn games alot but most of the time none of the LI's look at all interesting to me#especially especially especially when there are both Male and Female options ive noticed#since they include both it's even less likely the archetypes i love will be included#since they are still working with like maybe four or five lis max#so it becomes either all look the same stock sexy can tell nothing about who they are#or if they are all obviously different then like the same three or four types on rotation#there are exceptions#like i loved our life with a passion#because Cove is very cute#but i think our life is in it's own like category#the amount of choice in it and how you age through out it is just mwah#and i want to play doki doki dollmaker becasue i have it hell i backed the kickstarter for it adfkjd#but again a little different because it was in production for so long that the character types for the boys still feel to my tastes#even if a few designs are a little goofy but they are dolls that came to life so like you know

I wanna take a crack at making some fake screenshot graphics for my Sif Odile duo loopers au but I do not feel confident enough in my ability to mimic isat's art style and I also have a crippling fear of drawing backgrounds

Hmmm I kinda want to make a side blog for RPG Maker game development related things to be able to talk to more experienced people in that community, but at the same time I both don’t really think I’d get much attention and don’t want to accidentally spoil my own game (^^ ; ).
I have a rough story, concept doodles, a tileset, some character sprites, an enemy that walks around but can’t initiate battle yet (if I even decide to have a battle system), a couple rooms with some events, and a functioning run button, but I’m still lost on how to do much else at the moment. Especially since this program has the ability for scripting, meaning I’ll probably have to learn and actually retain another coding language.
So, I’m not very far at all lol. Idk how well that’d go over on the established fandom website, but eh.
#text post#incoherent rambling#project update#game project#I’m still also debating whether or not I can actually even make a proper horror game too#It’s the rule of like just being a horror fan doesn’t make you good at horror being afraid of something does? ya know?#I am trying to go with things that scare me personally but it’s been difficult#either things aren’t concrete of concepts enough or are wayyyy too oddly specific to make anything about#which is quitter talk I know but how does one translate the childhood heebee jeebees of watching top ten gaming videos past bedtime 💀💀💀#or like the way too broad general fear of lack of control without making it too on the nose or too vague#truly a balancing act writing is#kinda ironically I am also a little bit less afraid of hospitals after having been to one for myself rather than family members#which makes things both more and less difficult???#on one hand I have better references for them now but on the other hand I’m desensitized to it 😔#I think I get used to things a little too easily for a lot of things to stay scary#the thing was a scary movie the first time I saw it and now it’s a comfort film#funger was a very scary game until I first died and reloaded a save with little consequence and now it’s just a spooky but fun rpg#but then at the same time thinking about a movie studio logo before a movie that scared me as a kid cause there was a monster in it#still gives weird left over shivers but actually seeing it doesn’t anymore for some reason#I feel like that’s how it’s worked with most things I’ve ever been afraid of in my life besides concepts like death control or idk drowning#ugh writing is HARD#but actually making a functional and fun to play game is harder oh my god do I not know how to make puzzles#I have made swivel chairs that can be knocked and walked over but that’s about it and idk what to do with that knowledge lmaooooo#and I don’t want the entire gameplay loop to be read text search room get key repeat cause that’s boring#I have also desperately tried making a stamina system but there’s not much help with that online especially not in the rpg maker forums#the no necroposting rule sucks all the threads for questions I have never get answered and never will cause no one is allowed to due to age#anyway idk what to tag this probably won’t get seen since it’s not my usual anyway but eh whatever I’ll think about this#hopefully I remember the passwords to two blogs 💀💀💀

Playing Devil’s Advocate for Garten of Banban
Okay... before you kill me for this, please know I haven’t played the game personally yet. I have Chapter One and am going to attempt playing it later to get a feel for how the game runs, but until then, I’m going off of the gameplay videos I’ve watched, specifically SuperHorrorBro, Jacksepticeye, and 8-Bit Ryan. 
Long post ahead; you know the drill. TL;DR - the gameplay isn’t great but I feel like, with some TLC and time put into going back and smoothing out the gameplay and character movements, the game could be really good and not just a Poppy Playtime knockoff/mascot horror cash grab.
Now, from what I’ve seen, the game is... clunky. The drone controls seem to be finicky, the puzzles are confusing with very little explanation (poor Jack ran around trying every combination for the color-coded desk puzzle when the combination was on the wall), and the designs for the characters are a bit bizarre. It definitely feels like a cash-grab mascot horror game.
However... there is potential for the game.
For one, I can’t think of any mascot horror game that has taken on a kindergarten. Middle school/high school, sure (Baldi’s Basics & Doki Doki Literature Club are two off the top of my head,) but not a kindergarten. It’s a bit scarier thinking that there are five-year-old children who have fallen into the abyss that is the ball pit’s underbelly where there is something that probably hasn’t even interacted with children before. The premise is really unique and gives the game an interesting identity.
Secondly, the voice acting isn’t bad. It’s a little goofy, but then again, there are other video games where the voice actors feel like they’re not even trying. These voice actors sound like they’re trying, and I have a lot of respect for that, especially since I want to do voice acting work someday, too. Banbaleena’s voice actress is doing a really good job - my friend Cotton said that she sounds kinda like a child trying to play a teacher, and that definitely fits for what we’ve seen her personality to be. Banban’s voice and inflections are funny, but I like that his tone kinda implies he’s tired of being seen as a “bad guy” and is a bit socially awkward. Slow Seline’s voice is actually pretty scary and pretty much exactly what I’d expect her voice to sound like. I’m really excited to see if Stinger Flynn will talk or be a silent antagonist like Opila Bird and Jumbo Josh.
Thirdly... well, this is going to sound slightly mean, but the puzzles in Garten of Banban 2 - to me, at least - appear easier than in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. I have horrible memory (thanks ADHD/depression combo) and I am incredibly bad at reflex puzzles that Whack-A-Wuggy poses. The puzzles in Garten of Banban aren’t necessarily testing reflexes and memory, but instead feel more like logic puzzles. Banbaleena’s entire class section is more logic-based. For example, her very first question with the long string of numbers makes you look at your options: Smart Kid, Really Smart Kid, Dramatic Kid, and Weird Kid. Sure, it’s not like it’s extremely hard to figure out that “Really Smart Kid” is your best bet to avoid death, but it’s more focused on logic/reasoning instead of being memory or reflex-based. Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 can get overwhelming fast, especially when I was merely watching people play through it. Flashing lights and rapid movement make me slightly sick, so being able to do puzzles that emphasize thinking instead of speed and memory are going to be a bit more favorable in my eyes. Not to mention old-school parkour is fun if you can land the jumps. (*looks at me failing at parkour in Minecraft*)
So, what do I think? Well, since I haven’t personally played Garten of Banban yet, I can’t tell if my critiques/compliments are warranted or are too nice/harsh. However, I feel like, if given more time, the creators can make a really good game. People seem to forget that Ink Bendy from Bendy and the Ink Machine was originally just a blob with a smile and vaguely horn-shaped objects on his head back in its early days. If the creators go back to the previous chapters and fix up the gameplay and designs like how theMeatly did during Bendy and the Ink Machine, I feel like this game could be a very interesting game in and of itself. It’s like my personal thoughts on Balan Wonderworld. The gameplay and the costume mechanic aren’t good in the slightest, but everything else made me enjoy the game nonetheless. Garten of Banban feels like it will be similar to my opinions of Balan Wonderworld when I play it. Is it a cash grab? ...I don’t know. Most likely? But I feel as though, behind the cash-grabby feel and the janky gameplay, there’s a good game just waiting to come out.

#1. metroid prime trilogy: my first dive into metroidvania games and to this day it is probably my favorite genre next to soulsborne.#also as a space nerd egg “wow she's so cool i wish i could be like her” lmaooooo buddy..#2. eternal darkness sanity's requiem: REALLY great unique game. graphics r a bit dated but i think it otherwise holds up rly well.#great spellcasting system with a rock beats scissors beats paper type of thing between different uh. “types” of magic? sourced#from different gods that seem to exist outside of time. idk what bar it raised exactly but it made a strong impression on me#and I've been wishing i had something like it ever since. the sequel has been started multiple times but i don't think it's ever#gonna happen 😔 nintendo has some surprisingly GREAT rated R games.#3. fallout new vegas/skyrim: having enjoyed these so much I've had them on every system i think getting them for PC was a literal#game changer. i played vanilla then ultimate editions and Thought i played them to death but once i got console access on PC??#it kinda served as my entry point to using mods and recently I've even made my own mod for elden ring and dark souls 3 (⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.⁠)#not that I really needed or used mods with those games - but just kinda being Aware™ that being on PC means u have access#to the game's underlying functionality that you don't get on console. making bat scripts for skyrim/fonv made for some#HILARIOUS gameplay 😭#4. The recent negative review of Mothership going around is such a good thing. Dwiz is braver than any marine, and still had to regularly insist that he had fun!! Really!! Promise!! I’m anxious for this 5 year old honeymoon period to wear off so people can actually critique the damn game
The ttrpg scene - especially the osr/nsr scene - gets so fixated on darlings that anyone with an opinion that isn’t 100% dicksucking praise is deemed an idiot moron who doesn’t know shit and it’s so childish!
And Mothership has had the scene by the throat for years now. Back in 2020 i decided not to back the KS because “it’ll be out next year I’ll get it then.” Lol. Lmao.
It’s been tiresome to see a mediocre ruleset hailed as some divine gift. A good GM can make an underwhelming game interesting, good players can, modules can. I’ve never felt this applies so much as to the Panic Engine and MoSh specifically. People really will get distracted by pretty design, neat setting bits, and interesting supplements and think the game itself is good for it
