This was an exsausting experince.

First of all, you go into the description and you immediatly see Ayy Lmao, and if you know how I feel about that person: https://medium.com/@temp536228/vivziepop-a-story-of-caution-9924211bdf7b you'd know that Ayy Lmao is a horrible source when it comes to Vivziepop controversies.

So that was an immediate red flag.

Second was the fact that she used Rainbow's document but did not include any screenshots in the video despite the document in reality being blatant proof of Vivziepop's behavior is just exsausting to see.

Especially when if people actualy saw what the document, which was written by someone who is transgender was saying people wouldn't be nearly as leniant as they ended up being in the comments.

Especially when there is proof that the discord posts were Viv's.

It's just not in the video... yikes. OH my god... just... oh god why does this keep happening over and over and over it's MADENING.

It's always the same thing. Erin Frost is used as a cover up while people like Squidder or Kira who were mistreated by Vivziepop who are then not mentioned for god knows why, more false accusations to make Vivziepop look more innocent than she actually is, none of the biggest pieces of evidence are even used- it's exsausting!

I was wondering why the documents were still so passive and... no wonder! The video doesn't have any screenshots! At least not enough to prove anything really to the level where I wonder if Fiona choose false accusations and Erin Frost on purpose because OH BOY there are so many sources about Vivziepop's behavior nowadays that the fact that videos like this still exist is just mind boogling.

In fact, I checked, and it's just another video using Erin Frost and a bunch of false accusations to make Vivziepop look more "innocent" than she actually is. It's so exsuasting, honestly.

Fiona, please do yourself a favor and find better sources for the love of God. Thank you. Oh my god... this was exsuasting to see.

Good. Not much else to say except this should be a lesson that using Ayy Lmao as a source is not at all a good idea. That, and more research should have been done overall.

Turns out, she didn't admit to this at all and just said that the video wasn't what people "expected." Which doesn't count as admiting to it's flaws. Just saying that it was "different". So you didn't see the tweet accurately is what im trying to say.

What was their childhood fear?

I don't think it was "getting lost" because he wouldn't go wandering around so much if he was scared of getting lost. I think he was really nervous around his siblings' friends, because they were all so much older than him and bigger than him, plus they were like that candy-sweet, cloying level of nice to him that really rubbed him the wrong way. They babied him basically and it made him very uncomfortable, so whenever Aoife or Teague had friends over he would either hide in the woods or his room if it was cold/rainy.

If they could live or visit anywhere, where would they go?

I'll skip over "home" because that's obvious I think. I think he would want to go somewhere secluded and remote, like a cabin in the woods, or a lighthouse. He's never actually been able to discern anything from a map so there aren't cities he wants to see, but he would like to see Inverness someday.

What did they dream of “growing up” to be?

I have a line I've never been able use in any one shot, where he says "I wanted to be cool and sexy when I grew up, and I think I've checked both those boxes." In all seriousness, he wanted to be an adventurer like his mom, an expert archer like Nikita, and he wanted to study the plants that grew around his home.

Have they achieved any of their childhood dreams? Are they still trying? Have those dreams changed?

He's achieved all of them, surpassed the one about studying plants because he's seen so much beyond his home. Unfortunately, becoming an adventurer came at a cost. He hasn't been able to stop since he was sixteen. His dreams have changed. He only has one now, and it's to see his family again.

Who are they when they aren’t with the party?

That's a tough one. When he's not with the party he's either alone, or with one of his love interests, and even between those he's different. When he's alone, he gets kind of spacey and in his own head, because there's no one else to interact with, and he probably won't choose to interact with anyone. When he's with a love interest, he gets very affectionate, and typically matches their energy and behavior. It's sort of like unconscious masking. Sometimes I refer to him in my head as a "sexual chameleon" but it's not just levels of sexuality he mimics. He'll work with whatever they give him in all fields.

If someone could tell them anything about the future they asked, would they want to know? Would they ask?

He absolutely would want to know, but I don't think he'd ask because he'd be afraid of the answer. He wants to know if he'll ever get home, he wants to know how things turn out with Rhys (he might not believe the answer he would get lol), and he wants to know if he'll survive the prophecy he's a part of.

What sets them free?

A sky full of fluffy white clouds, the weight of his crystal pendant around his neck, the first chill in autumn, the warm embrace of a lover, the sound of an arrow hitting its target, his father's shepherd's pie

Who was their childhood hero?

If I knew more about the character I'd say Long John Silver from Treasure Island because pirate. Otherwise, it's his dad. When he was young, he was the type who dreamed of getting married and starting a family, because he saw how his dad was with his wife, and how he was with him and Elsie and Erin, and thought "I want to be like him." (and now Cat's in the Cradle is stuck in my head lol)

What were their favorite hobbies as a teen?

He was a shy little bookworm who loved to read. He used to get in trouble in elementary school because he would read during class when he should've been paying attention. There was a point when he was a teenager and doing his apprenticeship with the book binder that he considered writing for a living.

If they could change their class(es), would they? To what?

I don't think so, he likes being a rogue, but.... he's always been a little envious of people with magic. He'd stay a rogue, but that insult spell that Kira used to k.o. him was pretty cool...

What do they see in the dark?

The things he's hiding from.

What is their sleep/trance like?

He's a sleeper, and he's a deep one. There's a reason he doesn't take naps anymore, he'd wake up after four hours completely disoriented and feeling pretty much dead. He'll occasionally have nightmares, not really triggered by anything, just when his subconscious is like "Hey, fuck you :)" All that being said, lately he's been sleeping less, not for any emotional reason, it's just that the sparse times the cat wakes up have been late at night, and shh don't tell his sisters but especially don't tell Kira, but he loves that cat to death and he's happy to see him awake because that means Kira is actually sleeping. Also sometimes the cat will make a little noise at him and his icy heart melts.

Murdoch:

Did they grow up with siblings? What were those relationships like?

Murdoch is the super spoiled only child of Shiloh and Rosemary Heffernan. That being said he had a lot of friends growing up, so he was never lonely. His moms let him have a lot of sleepovers because they knew it would be good for him to socialize and learn how to cooperate with others.

What does their midday meal look like? One big meal? Lots of snacks throughout the day?

I don't think he really gets lunch breaks so much as someone else will run over to concessions and get him something to snack on when he's not performing. Minor spoiler for my follow up to Kira's disaster threesome (or something he'll actually do in a session, we'll see), but I was thinking a day or two after that night, Kira gets a candy apple or something from concessions and brings it to Murdoch which is unintentionally a very sweet gesture.

What is their role in the party? Not just their class on a meta level, but among the individuals who make up the party?

He's the idiot brother with a heart of gold. I said a while ago, before he was part of the circus in canon, that he dumbs himself down and plays the fool so he'll seem less scary? Like he's got the eyes and the teeth and the deathly pallor, he feels he has to make up for that with how he acts, so he seems less threatening.

Do they have any expectations of how they might die?

He always felt he would die young, and part of him hoped it would be in some poetic way. Killed by a lover, or for love, in some pretty bloodless fashion, like with poison or through, well, drowning. Idk if we have Shakespeare in universe, but to put it in a way that I think fully encapsulates his feelings: he read Hamlet and hoped to die like Ophelia.

Do they remember their dreams?

Not often. That's one thing that didn't really change after he died. His dreams while he sleeps are pretty scattered and strange, things that are so ridiculous and nonsensical that unless it really scares or arouses him, it fades within minutes.

Petra:

Did they grow up with siblings? What were those relationships like?

I chose this one for Petra because I had this sudden vision of him having a twin sister (Renate, pronounced reh-NA-tuh, Renny for short) who he's really close with, as twins typically are. They both got into all kinds of mischief together. Renny I think became an urban druid, she and Petra both developed an affinity with the environment. In Petra that looked like parkour and and a crossbow, and in Renny that looked like talking to pigeons and (eventually) shapechanging into them. They still live together, their parents actually gave them the house and moved out to the countryside when they felt the city had gotten too fast for them. And one other thing, they've both got the same purple eyes.

The Good Ship CrushWay, Chapter 30

Author’s Note: I needed some time away from that last story.  Call it a mid-season break, if you’ll allow it.  Now, for something I’ve wanted to do for literal years. (Yes, the stardate is going to be inaccurate because as much as I want to care about it, I don’t.  Two years have passed since chapter 1; six months have passed since chapter 29.  That’s all you need to know.)

Seven is walking through the corridors, nodding at doctors who smile at her.

Seven: Personal log, stardate 97770.33.  Admiral Paris has called myself, Captain Janeway, B’Elanna Torres, Tom Paris, the Doctor, and a few people I have not yet met to an early morning meeting.  It is rather inconvenient timing, as I was beginning to incorporate a new aspect to the filing system that would improve its efficiency.  Now, until I am permitted to return to my duties, the system will remain in its current state of disarray.  

Seven walks up to a door.  She rings the chime. 

KJ: Come! Seven: (enters, it’s a conference room.  KJ is seated near the head of the table. Seven nods in acknowledgement.) Captain. KJ: Good morning, Seven.   Seven: How was your sleep? KJ: Beverly woke me up snoring.  (drowning her yawns in coffee.  ...) Since when do you care? Seven: The Doctor and I have been talking about little talk.  It seems an inefficient way of communication, but the Doctor tells me it is seen as polite. KJ: It’s called “small talk,” Seven.  And I am perfectly fine to sit in silence--my restless night has left me rather cantankerous this morning.  (Seven nods in acknowledgement.  They have one more moment of silence before Tom and B’Elanna enter.  They see the way the Captain is chugging her coffee and decide not to comment.  They have a seat as well.  AP enters, smiling warmly.)

AP: Good morning, all.  Tom, would you mind bringing the Doctor up on this panel so we can begin? Tom: Yes, sir.  Will there be anyone else joining us, sir? AP: Yes, but I need to brief you all on your mission first. Tom: Understood, sir.  (He goes to the panel, presses a few buttons, and the EMH appears.) EMH: Good morning, Lieutenant Paris.   Tom: Good morning, Doctor. AP: Good morning, all.  I’m so glad to see you all again.  You all know I don’t like to beat around the bush, and there isn’t much time before you need to leave.  I’ll be brief.  We’ve managed to narrow down the location of the Voyager crew to a section of M class planets toward the border of the Delta and Alpha Quadrants.  We’ve not been able to communicate, but the homing signal they sent finally reached us.  According to his report, there were several minor injuries, but the planet they landed on had a benevolent species that took pity on them and helped them get to a stable position.  They, as far as I know, are waiting to be rescued, as the escape pods were very badly damaged in the landing.  We’re giving you a ship to bring back your crew. (brings up an image.  smiling)  Friends, this is the USS Ohana. KJ: (smiling) Family.  Family means no one gets left behind. AP: She’s intrepid class, just like Voyager.  She should have more than enough space to get all of you back in one piece. KJ: She’s beautiful.  When do we leave? AP: Well, as soon as your new crew members get here. Seven: New crew members? AP: Yes.  First, (pulling up a headshot) your head of security and first officer, Lieutenant Commander Tasha Yar.   KJ: Yes, she can cover that and tactical until we get to Tuvok.  That still leaves Ops, assuming that Tom will be covering the helm. AP: Your new Ops officer, Ensign Ro Laren (headshot).  I will warn you, Captain.  Both women are extremely opinionated and headstrong. KJ: Outspoken, are they?  They’ll fit it well.  (as if on cue, the doorbell chimes.) AP: Come! (Tasha and Ro enter.) KJ: (to Tasha) Commander Yar, yes? Tasha: Lieutenant Commander, but yes.  Tasha Yar.   AP: Report to cargo bay 4 in 2 hours.  Dismissed.  Tasha: (to KJ) Good to meet you, sir. KJ: Just “Captain” is fine.  I’ll be calling you “Number One.” (They all walk toward the Turbolift together.)

Tasha: I am honored.  Captain Picard used to call Commander Riker that. KJ: You served aboard the Enterprise? Tasha: Yes, many years ago.  I left for another position on a smaller ship that had the opportunity of advancement; Captain Picard gave me his blessing, as he and Captain Anton Farley were in the academy together. (smirking) He said I could learn a good deal from him. KJ: It’s a long story, but I became “Number One” after Commander Riker left for his position aboard The Excalibur. Ensign Ro, is it? Ro: Yes, Captain.  Thank you for using my proper name. KJ: No need to thank me for common decency. Commander Chakotay taught me well.   B’Elanna: Speaking of Chakotay, where is he? Seven: He is on an extended spirit quest.  He left messages with Starfleet Command that he would be back in a few months.  Admiral Paris felt it best to respect his religious practices and appoint you instead, Commander Yar. Ro: Now, Chakotay, why do I know that name? B’Elanna: It’s been a long time, but he and I fought with the Maquis against the Cardassians. Ro: But you aren’t Bajoran. B’Elanna: But Starfleet sure as hell didn’t give a damn.  We knew what needed to be done, and so we went to help, no matter what that meant.

Bev: You’re going to call me every day at lunch, right? KJ: Of course.  I looked at the coordinates briefly--it doesn’t seem like it will be that long of a trip as far as navigation goes.  The species Tuvok has befriended seems docile and willing to learn from us according to his report.  I’d say I’ll be back in a month. Bev: Every day, Kate. KJ: 1200 hours.  We’ll keep up.  And when I get back, you’ll get to meet my crew. Bev: When you get back, can we tell your mom about us? KJ: (stopping dead in her tracks) Tell my mom? Bev: I don’t have parents to tell that I’m happy.  My closest friends and family already know you, especially since Wesley finally came to see me and you met him.  It’s time for your mom to know. KJ: I know it’s time.  I’m just worried that if we tell her, she’s going to fall apart.  It’s only been 6 months since Phoebe died. Bev: Her daughter is happy.  How could she “fall apart” over that? KJ: I don’t know.  I guess I’m just scared.   Bev: We’ll make a trip to see her and tell her in person.  It’ll be fun!  Plus I’ll finally get to meet Molly and Rocco.  I’ve been excited about that for a long time. KJ: Molly and Rocco will love you, and so will my mom after knowing that you’re my girlfriend.  (leaning in to kiss her) Just like I love you now.  (in each other’s arms) You’re the most loving, loyal, positive, funny, and sarcastic person I’ve ever known.  I love you. Bev: I love you, too.   KJ: I need to go. Bev: Do you have to? (starting to go in for another kiss)  KJ: I might have 15 minutes or so...(going in for a kiss on the neck) Bev: Good.  That’s just enough time.

Tasha is packing.  Ro enters.

Ro: Tasha, are we not going to talk about this? Tasha: There’s nothing left to talk about. Ro: Yes, there is.  We’re going to rescue some former Maquis. Tasha: Former Maquis who then became Starfleet officers. Ro: (sitting down on the bed) Tash, I need a friend right now. Tasha: A Maquis wanting to befriend a Starfleet officer? Ro: Will you just shut UP about that?!  (Tasha takes a deep breath and sits down next to her.) I defected to the Maquis, yes.  That’s only because I saw my people suffering.  I saw myself as a little girl again.  I couldn’t watch other people watch their fathers die like I did.  I just couldn’t.   Tasha: Listen...I’m sorry.  I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.  I was hurting for a long time.  You and I were really happy, and then you defected.  It felt personal. Ro: You know it’s not. Tasha: I saw the way you were looking at that Kira Nerys.  Don’t tell me that had nothing to do with it. Ro: That’s just it!  Kira had nothing to do with it. Tasha: Bullshit. Ro: Ok.  But not in the way you’re thinking.  She understood my passion for Bajor.  She knew that Starfleet couldn’t help me with that. Tasha: And that’s where the problem really is--you think that I didn’t understand, or that I couldn’t.  I grew up outrunning rape gangs, Ro.  I know what it’s like to have an unsafe, miserable childhood. Ro: But you don’t know what it is to have someone else understand that and be able to help you through that.  Be able to give you something to do about it. Tasha: ...I thought I did.  I really thought I did. (Tasha gets up from the bed and starts to finish up her packing.) Ro: Tasha. Tasha: Dismissed, Ensign.  (Ro sighs.  She looks at Tasha longingly one more time.  She leaves.)

Seven is in the Medical facility.  It’s clear she’s stressed out. Erin: Annika, just let me take care of that while you’re away. Seven: My name is not Annika any longer. Erin: What should your designation be, then? Seven: Seven of Nine is more than appropriate, even if it is a bit vague. Erin: Seven, please.  Just let me take care of the records while you’re gone. Seven: You won’t know what to do. Erin: Yes, I will. Seven: (stops what she’s doing) Show me. (Erin does the same sequence of events Seven has been doing.) You have forgotten to capitalize Biquv’s name under “assigned counselor.” Erin: But is the rest of it up to your standards? Seven: It is...passable.  Thank you, Erin. Erin: You’re welcome. (Seven starts to walk away.) I was wanting to talk to you. Seven: (Stops, turns on her heels.  slightly annoyed.) Proceed. Erin: We didn’t get the time to be mother and daughter.  When you return, could we start getting to know each other? Seven: When I return, I will have many things to do.   Erin: But you have to eat.  We could at least eat together. Seven: (taking a deep breath) We will attempt conversation once a week. Erin: Five times. Seven: Three. Erin: Sold.  Now hurry--your mission can’t wait.

So, I was tagged in this by the wonderful @cawolters (and if you’re not following her already, why not and go check her out!) and thought I’d complete this for one of my characters from More Questions Than Answers. There might be some spoilers in here, but as MQTA is still at the draft 0 / 1 stage so there might be a lot of changes before it’s finished!

Meet Kat.

Who was your mother and what did she teach you?

My mother was...well, I *think* she was Isobella Genevieve D’Antonio. At least, that’s the name I’ve found, and her picture looks familiar.

I can remember my mother helping me to refine my art, and also - as an odd mix - some psychology including how to read people and some forensic psychology. I think she thought it would keep me safe...*sigh*

Do you have any sisters (related or not)?

I think so... I remember one and I can see her face, but I can’t remember her name or hear her voice in any memories I have of her. I need to find her, especially if she’s in as much trouble as I am.

I also have a found sister in Erin Winter. She’s whip-smart, fiercely loyal, resourceful and, I think, very much in love with Carter - not that he can see it.

How has your gender shaped your path in life?

I’ve seen both sides - my mother came from money, so we could afford whatever we needed. When I had to work after my parents died, I had to prove I was worth far more than my male counterparts - well, the police isn’t an easy job. After that, proving myself as a female PI has been...challenging. Starting out was hard, but now I have a reputation that evens the playing field.

What does the woman you admire look like? Who is she?

Olive-skinned, deep brown kind eyes, long black hair, a ready smile...  Yes, my mother - I just wish I could remember her properly. I have the images, but can't remember her voice.

Someone I can remember properly and admire is the 6 foot brunette, brown eyed goddess of a woman I’ve been getting to know recently. *sigh* Erin... How the hell are you mixed up in this?

Why do you think women are considered the gentler sex?

*laughs* Ah, there are some deluded people around. What more can I say.

What is a piece of your personality that you are proud of?

Determination. I’m remembering things now, but I still have gaps on a lot of critical things. I’m not going to rest until I get answers about exactly who I am and what’s happened to my family.

When did you accept your own body and its strengths/weaknesses?

Almost dying does make you accept your weaknesses, and recovering from horrific injuries lets you see the buried strength and determination you never knew you had.

Hopefully this makes some sense as I’ve written it with a bit of brain fog. Kat’s been a long-standing OC, so I’ve got most of an idea about her. It's been interesting filling in a couple of blanks about her.

what are the wildest things to ever happen on dance moms?

I’ll go season by season.

s1: the minister dawn fight, which cracks me up to this day (”when jesus saw things wrong in the temple, he went for it”)

s2: jill flipping her shit during “wardrobe malfunction”. honestly jill in general.

s3: either cathy smacking abby with her purse and then everyone throwing water at each other, or the new orleans fight.

s4: the kelly/abby fight. also anything christy did.

s5: the abby/kira fight when abby took her shirt off in an attempt to get the cameras off of her, yet we were still treated to like a 2-second shot of her in her bra.

s6: everyone losing their minds over the zieglers leaving, especially when melissa told sari, the mother of a disabled child, that she didn’t understand sacrifice or hardship. also jill straight up calling brynn stupid to her face. also also the moms leaving en masse for erin babbs after like 2 seasons of having nothing nice to say about mdp, badmouthing abby at comp, and then still returning to the aldc a week later. bonus: jessalyn bringing up kira’s previous felony charges in the subtle way we’ve come to expect from jess.

Let’s Rank the Samurai Rangers!

Power Rangers Samurai gets a bad rap among fans, probably deservedly so. I don’t watch Super Sentai, but people who do tell me that Samurai is basically a very lazy direct translation of Shinkenger. That may be true, but I actually kind of enjoyed it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s no RPM or Dino Thunder, but it’s also nowhere near as bad as Megaforce. Regardless of where you stand on the show, one of the most consistently-cited issues that people tend to have with the show is the characters (and, depending on who you talk to, maybe the cast too). Again, I tend to hedge on this, because I think most of the actors are fairly capable and do a fine job with what they’re given. That said, I will concede that some of the rangers just...suck. So let’s get to the rankings! From best to worst, here they are (oh, and I’m skipping Lauren):

1. Mike (the Green Ranger)

Mike (Hector David Jr.) is the best, and this is should be so self-evident that I shouldn’t even have to make a case for him. So I’ll limit my argument to this: in “Christmas Together, Friends Forever,” Mike, who loves Christmas more than anything else which automatically makes him the best, gives his only present--a brand new dirtbike--to Bulk and Spike on Christmas, because they have nothing.

2. Mia (the Pink Ranger)

I hesitated whether to place Mia in this spot or the next, but ultimately she gets the nod at second, because I am only a man.

Yes, I may be 31 years old, am happily married, will soon be a father, own my own business, and have a mortgage, but every time Mia (Erika Fong) steps onscreen, I swoon like a 13-year-old girl (I may or may not have even said, “You’re so pretty” out loud). 

Like everything else about this show, her gimmick of loving to cook despite being godawful at it is polarizing, but I think it’s kind of cute, and it also adds a nice touch of brevity in contrast with Jayden and Kevin’s seriousness. She does need further development, but that goes for every else in this series, and like I already said, she’s really pretty.

3. Emily (the Yellow Ranger)

I’m glad that when Saban bought back the rights to Power Rangers from Disney that they decided to carry on the Disney tradition of casting super-cute, perky blondes (Tori, Kira, Syd, Claire, Ronnie, Lily, Summer)...usually as the Yellow Ranger.*

Emily has the potential to be even better, but what we did get is pretty good. She’s fun, kind of clumsy, and occasionally she and Mike make eyes at each other. Yes, they should have done something more with her being chosen to be a Ranger instead of her sister, and her and Mike’s romance could have been developed more (basically they go from sort of flirting to being a couple in the final episode with no in between). That said, when Emily finally gets a chance to go nuts in “Strange Case of the Munchies,” actress Brittany Anne Pirtle grabs onto every scene and takes it for all its worth.

In my own head-canon, I also like to imagine that this episode partly inspired “Dark Betty” in Riverdale.

4. Jayden (the Red Ranger)

Placing Jayden in any place other than last might be controversial for many fans, since he often bears the brunt of their wraith, but I tend to disagree. 

Yes, his brooding lone wolf character probably worked better for his Super Sentai counterpart, given the abundance of these types of characters in Japanese culture (I get Squall from Final Fantasy VIII vibes from him). That said, he does get a lot of backstory that helps establish why he is the way he is, and when you consider that he’s been burdened with the task of destroying Master Xandred since he was a child, you can see why he see’s a bit messed up. It’s not perfect and the execution is sometimes lacking, but there are good ideas there.

Additionally, Alex Heartman actually does have charisma and, on the occasions when he’s given good material, he does a good job with it. Plus, even at his worst, there are two rangers that are much worse than him.

5. Antonio (the Gold Ranger)

There’s things about Antonio that work really well: the fact that he’s a self-trained Samurai Ranger who isn’t descended from a long line of Samurais’, which gives him both a different perspective and approach towards being a ranger, his relationship (bromance? romance? whatever floats your boat) and history with Jayden, and his general light-hearted attitude. The problem is that as good as all those things are, it’s hard to overlook just how grating his character can be.

I don’t mind goofy characters; Ivan and Koda are two of my favorite Power Rangers ever, and I’ve also loved Bridge, Gem and Gemma, Dustin, and Ziggy, among many others. I’ve never understood why some fans get up in arms about these types of characters. Like, you do realize that you’re watching a show made for 5-8 year olds? However, when we’re presented with characters like Antonio (and, even worse, Dax from Operation Overdrive), I can start to sympathize with this mentality.

The problem with Antonio is that actor Steven Skylar spends far too much time mugging to the camera. Everything about the performance is way too over-the-top, including the random Spanish interjections. I suspect that since Skylar is actually of Thai descent, the producers felt the need to have him beat the audience over the head with “Fantastico!” I generally try not to blame actors, especially because it’s entirely possible that they were directed to act in a specific way, but I also can’t help but wonder if I wouldn’t have liked Antonio more if he had been played by another actor.

Still, he’s not the worst. There is someone much more deserving of that:

6. Kevin (the Blue Ranger)

God, Kevin, you suck so much. No, seriously, Kevin, you’re the worst.

Okay, so if you’ve watched more than one season of Power Rangers, you’re probably seen similar characters. Given that the creators essentially have to come up with a brand-new cast every year for 25 years, it makes sense that they would rely on archetypes. Kevin follows of the mold of the stick-up-their-ass, by-the-books second-in-command much like Kai, Jen, and Sky before him. 

There are a few problems from the beginning; for one, those three were all partnered with more laid-back Red Rangers (Leo, Wes, and Jack), and so they served as nice foils, constantly second-guessing the leader. Over time, these characters would gradually see that, although the Red Rangers didn’t following standard operating procedure, they were effective leaders in their own way, and they would come to respect them. It’s a good dynamic, and you can understand why they’ve returned to that well multiple times.

(That “What the fuck”-look that Mia gives Kevin is exactly how we all feel)

With Kevin, they tried something different (which is good, I guess) and had a serious second-in-command who idolizes his equally intense leader. So instead of forcing them to see (and come to respect) a different point of view, this dynamic just reinforces their own stupid biases. Worse yet, unlike, say Erin Cahill (Jen) or Chris Violette (Sky) who were still likable characters even when their heads were up their asses, Najee De-Tiege has no charisma or charm, and it’s impossible to like Kevin.

If you want a quick introduction to why Kevin is the worst, look no further than “The Blue and the Gold.” So two episodes after joining the team, Kevin still hasn’t accepted that Antonio is part of the team. Antonio tells that he made a new Zord, and Kevin’s like, “You made it from Electronic Symbol Power? I don’t accept that!”

Hey, asshole, how many fucking Zords have you made?

“.....”

None? That’s what I thought. So shut the fuck up!

The other rangers tell Antonio that Kevin won’t accept him unless he can adapt to his training habits. So Antonio follows him around observing his daily routine (i.e. non-stop training) and tries to copy him the next day. Kevin catches him and says, “Despite the fact that you’re gone through all this effort to try to copy me, I don’t think you’re taking this seriously so fuck off!” Before Antonio can tell him to take his head out of his ass, they’re attacked and can’t communicate with the other rangers. It’s not a problem though, because they’ll know something is wrong when Kevin is late. This is when we find out that Kevin has a daily routine that goes down to the minute. As much as I despise Kevin, this is so hilariously awful that I can’t help but love it.

Later they’re attacked again, and Antonio hurts his arm, but he sticks around and defeats the bad guys anyway, and Kevin goes, “Wow! You really are dedicated. I finally respect you,” despite the fact that Antonio has been doing this for the past two episodes. Kevin must be one of those people who says, “Yes, the Golden State Warriors have made three straight NBA Finals appearances, won the championship twice, have multiple All-Stars, and a two-time MVP, but I just don’t think they’re very good.” Then if Golden State wins this year, he’s finally like, “Oh, I get why people think they’re good.”

All the Little Horses Chapter 8

Week 26

Your baby is the size of a turnip. Major excitement: Your baby opens its eyes! On the flip side, you might wish yours would stay closed so you could get some sleep. Your baby now weighs a full two pounds and measures nine-plus inches. Your baby will soon be feeling a little cramped in your uterus — but not to worry, there's still plenty of room for your baby to grow. It just means your gymnast will have less room for those somersaults, cartwheels and other Olympic feats. If a full night's rest has become elusive, welcome to the (sleepless) world of pregnancy insomnia. Between heartburn and leg cramps, bathroom runs and that big beach ball beneath your nightie, it's no wonder your body's having trouble calming down and drifting off...

     I rolled over in bed for what must have been the hundredth time. I couldn’t get comfortable though. I cursed softly as I tried to shift the pillow between my legs to a more comfortable position. Next to me, Cal shifted as well and propping himself up on an elbow. His voice was husky with sleep as he asked, “Everything okay?”

      “No,” I grumbled bitterly as I rolled to face him, “I can’t sleep for more than ten minutes, I feel like I swallowed a balloon and it’s expanding inside of me, not to mention my ankles feel like they’re disconnected from my body, and I’m still hungry even though I ate two hours ago.”

       He sighed as he laid back down and ran a tired hand down his face. A few seconds later, he said, “Alright,” and rolling to face me, he continued, “Come here then.”

      I moved toward him, and then maneuvered myself so that my back was curled into the curve of his body. I pulled the pillow out from between my legs, and he slid his leg between mine in its place, before tucking his chin on top of my head. It was a position we found worked best on the nights that I really had trouble sleeping, and I hated to admit that I liked it considerably more than I let on. We laid like that for a few minutes then, just listening to the sound of traffic outside as the curtains parted softly with the fall breeze.

     Suddenly feeling sentimental, I reached for Cal’s hand and softly guided it to my stomach. The baby kicked softly against our hands, and I felt Cal’s lips pull into a small smile as he kissed the top of my head. I grinned softly as well, and then closed my eyes and tried to settle in for another sleepless night.

     The next morning, we were sitting in Ada’s office again. Now the veterans of the whole process, we had picked an appointment later in the morning, and had arrived closer to the appointment time. Across from us was another woman, much older than me, who looked to be a lot farther along than me as well. She was talking softly with her husband while their young son sat on the floor running a race car along the carpet.

     I threaded my fingers through Cal’s and he brought my hand up to his lip and pressed a light kiss on my knuckles. I grinned at him and then gestured for him to lean down so that I could whisper in his ear.

     “Are you ready to lose that bet today?” I asked with a malicious grin. He laughed lightly as he pulled away and winking down at me he replied, “We’ll see.”

      The door opened and a male nurse called us back. I struggled to get up from the chair, and in the end Cal helped me up and I glanced at him gratefully, before wrapping my arms around his and walking with him into the back. The area seemed to be even busier than the last time I had come, which had only been a month ago. The nurse showed us to a room, and then took my blood pressure, my temperature, my height, and my weight much to my disdain. Cal had sat in the chair, grinning to himself the whole time, and laughing outright when I made a face at the number on the scale. 

     Taking all the numbers down, the nurse promised that Ada would be with us soon, and then left. I sat down heavily on the examination table and then laid back, looking up at the ceiling. Instinctively, I ran my hand along the heavy spot of my stomach, where the baby was resting and pushing up against me. Quietly, I hoped it was a baby boy, because I couldn’t imagine losing this bet to Cal, he would never let me forget.

     The door opened and Ada came in, and offered us both a bright grin. I replied with the same, and she laughed as she took in my dark circles and said, “Well, you’re healthy as a horse, and so is the baby from what I can tell.”

     My heart soared and, my smile became so wide that it hurt my cheeks. I watched her wash her hands and exhaling in relief I said, “That’s, good to hear,”  She settled in next to me, and set up the ultrasound. Glancing between the two of us, she asked about how everything was going, about how I was feeling, about how Cal was feeling about the whole thing, had we started setting up the nursery, was there a date for a baby shower yet, and whether or not we had started looking into birthing classes. She paused at the last one, and glancing at me curiously, she asked, “Are you planning on giving natural birth, or are you going to do a C-section?”

     I paused from answering and then shifting uncomfortably, I replied, “My mom gave birth to all of us naturally, and I think I could do it, but I want to wait until I get there to decide.”

     Nodding, Ada smiled and winked at Cal as she teased, “Well you better be prepared, I would suggest doing hand strengthening exercises now. We don’t want her breaking your hand during delivery.”

      Cal laughed, but I saw him flexing his hand instinctively near my side. Reaching out, I took that hand in mine, and squeezed gently, trying to reassure him. He simply gave me a gentle smile, and squeezed back. We were a team in this, we had already decided that long ago. Now more than ever it mattered though, as we rapidly approached the end of this whole thing. I kept my eyes on Cal, thinking about what it would look like if our son or daughter had his eyes, and maybe his smile. He could light up a room with that smile.

In my distraction, Ada lifted up my shirt and spread the typical gel across it. She glanced at the machine and my heart leaped with joy when it only took her a few seconds to find the baby and give us a good view. Smiling warmly, Ada circled a spot on the baby’s head with her finger and said, “If you look carefully, you might be able to see that its eyes are open.”

     Cal leaned forward expectantly and then shook his head laughing as he pressed a light kiss on my forehead. “Already wide awake,” he teased as he smirked. I couldn’t wait to see that smirk fall when our baby cried at all hours of the night. 

      After taking a few pictures and pointed out a few more important facts, Ada began to wind down from her work, and I took that moment to decide that more than anything I needed to know what we were having.

 “Can you tell if it’s a boy or a girl?” I asked hesitantly, and Ada glanced down at me before nodding and looking back at the screen. She tilted her head to the side as she observed the image, and then shifted the picture left and right slightly for a few seconds. Eventually, she grinned down at me and asked, “Are you sure you want to know?” 

     Cal and I both nodded wildly, both of our eyes glued to the screen where our baby was slowly twisting inside of my womb. Ada laughed at our excitement and then gesturing to a spot near the baby’s leg she whispered, “Congratulations, you’re have a girl.”

      My jaw dropped and Cal let out a hoot of laughter. I shifted to sit up and cried in shock, “No, I know it’s a boy!”

      Ada raised her brow at our entirely different reactions and then laughed as she went to print the image. “Oh no, you two are definitely having a girl, there’s no mistaking that.”

       “So much for motherly intuition.” Cal laughed as I slumped back down in my seat and grumbled, “Dammit.”

     Later that day, I helped Cal move the last of the boxes into the room that was once his office. Slowly, he unpacked them, while I opened the cans of paint. In the end, we had bought a soft cream color, and Cal had promised that we would finish the painting that weekend. Sitting on the floor, Cal was busy putting something or another together while I was painting the wall opposite of him, with my back to him. I had been a little peeved after we found out the baby was girl, because he had been so God damn cocky about winning the argument. I couldn’t stay mad forever though, especially now, since he had dropped what he was in the middle of doing to drive and grab us lunch.

      “How about Amanda?” He offered as he fit two poles together. I made a face at the name and said, “I know a girl with that name that comes to the studio to work out with Ella’s group, we are not naming our daughter Amanda.”

“Fine, how about…. Erin?” He offered as he stood up and fitted the piece he had just finished onto the frame of something. I glared at him over my shoulder and pointing the paint roller at him, I said, “Either you pick something original to name our kid, or I’m going to physically hurt you.”

He laughed as he stepped back to admire his work, and gesturing to the frame he said, “What do you think? Not bad right?”

“What the hell is it supposed to be?” I grumbled as I set my paint roller down and wiped my hands on my overalls. I walked to the dresser and grabbed a peice of garlic bread from the tray on top and biting into I went to stand beside him. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulling me close to him he said, “It’s going to be the bassinet.”

“I thought we agreed that we were doing a normal crib.” I argued, but he simply glanced down at me with a smile, and tapped me on the nose with his fingertip. He walked by me then to eat some of the pasta on his plate as he reasoned, “We did, but this thing can be made into a bassinet or a crib. I looked it up, this model can grow with the baby. I just put the extra parts together and we can keep it until Kira is a toddler.”

“Dear God no, we are not naming her Kira.” I cried in exasperation. He laughed at my antics, and crossing the room to me again, he pressed a sloppy kiss on my hairline and said, “I was just testing out the sound of it, besides, shouldn’t you be painting a wall right now?”

     “I was taking a snack break, and looking at what we obviously did not agree to do” I grumbled as I crossed back to the dress and grabbed another garlic roll. Cal laughed and then went to grab the other parts of the cradle. Looking at me over his shoulder he said, “So you also took a break to reprimand me? You must be losing your touch, you normally can do it while you do everything else.” 

“You’re insufferable.” I grumbled as I glanced at the frame over my shoulder again and set my hand on my stomach thoughtfully. Bending down I picked up my paint roller again and mumbled down to our daughter, “You better be prepared sweetheart, he’s going to treat you like a princess when you get here.”

      “I heard that.” Cal said from the other side of the room, and I stuck my tongue out at him childishly in response.
