Danny passes on a message
The league summons Phantom (as the ghost king, perhaps) for something or other, and afterwards, Phantom just starts to pop in to meetings at the watchtower to hang out.
Danny, to Batman: "Hey, you're Bruce Wayne, right?"
Everyone freezes and looks at Phantom in horror. Danny just looks back at Batman, unblinking.
Batman: "How did you know that?"
Danny, ignoring the question, as usual: "Right, your parents asked me to pass on a message."
Batman: "What"
Danny: "They said they love you and are proud of you. They also said that, as much as they love their grandbabies, child acquisition is not a replacement for therapy."
Chaos ensues.

keigo as a daddy 🐣
not that kind of daddy, everyone get ur minds out of the gutters (same)
ANYWAYYY
- keigo had always thought about having kids of course, but reality always hit him quick. he was too busy, and his life was far too dangerous for a partner, let alone a child
- then he met you
- so one became two, and he was happy. truly happy for the first time since he could remember. but guilt and fear wracked him everyday. what if someone came after you? what if, god forbid, he died while on the job, leaving you alone? he couldn’t bear the thought. he dreamed of retiring, taking you, all his money, and buying a big, beautiful house out in the country where you’d grow old together with lots of kids and grandbabies.
- but it was just a fleeting thought. reality always hit. it wouldn’t be fair to anyone for him to have kids
- and then the war came
- and everything changed
- for a while, it seemed like things had changed for the worse
- but things got stable
- things got better
- heroes weren’t needed as much
- the day keigo took his position of president of the hero commission, he proposed to you
- he did it in front of nearly all of japan on live tv. not for his ego, not to get attention or fame, but because he wanted everyone to know how much he adored you
- his life was changing, and he wanted you to be in the rest of the chapters of it
- the two of you quickly settled in to married life. it was just as romantic and passionate as it had been when the two of you were dating; and better yet, you got to spend more time together with keigos new job
- of course he had you quit your job as soon as you got married, and you didn’t mind. you spent your days filled with philanthropy and finding ways to fulfill yourself and your community
- after being two for so long, imagine your surprise when one little stick told you that you’d be becoming three
- things were finally normal, finally stable, especially for keigo. you knew he’d be thrilled. he had always talked about having little ones, but the two of you figured it’d be a “if it happens, it happens” kind of deal
- and you were right, he was thrilled
- the man nearly burst into tears when he opened the small box at the dinner table containing an ultrasound and a onesie
- immediately he began looking at homes outside of the city. “this apartment isn’t big enough for a baby” (it was, but you weren’t going to tell him that)
- the man pampered you throughout your whole pregnancy. he was at every doctors appointment, got your every craving no matter the time of day or night, and made sure you never lifted a finger, especially during your move (much to your chagrin)
- though he hired movers and decorators, he designed and built everything in the nursery
- when he found out you were having a girl, he was even happier. tell me that man isn’t meant to be a girl dad, like cmon
- yea he cried when the baby was born. multiple times. she looks just like you, after all!
- not once did he make you get up to check on the baby at night. he would always do it. he adored her from the moment he laid eyes on her. he was going to be different than his parents. he was going to be better.
- one night, at nearly 2 am, you woke up, and when you went down the hallway, you saw him sitting beside the crib, gently stroking the little hair atop her head. you never told him you saw it
- keigo shows his two favorite girls in the world off wherever he goes. pictures of you and the baby are all over his office, and it’s a rarity to see him in public without you and the baby by his side
- as the baby grows, he only continues to spoil her, giving her all the love and affection he never received. he wasn’t certain of everything, but he knew that she would never question where her next meal was coming from, or ever doubt if she was loved
- her toys would be scattered across his office, he loves bringing her to work
- you two are double trouble for keigo. he can barely say no to you, let alone her. that man’s salary gets put to use, trust me
- bum ass dad? never heard of it. keigo is there for every possible event, from doctors appointments to recitals. he’s there.
- and don’t think he’s forgotten about you. that man lets you know how much he utterly adores you everyday. not just because you made him a father. no, because before all of that, you made him feel loved, and he could never repay you for what you’ve done for him

I see father Crowley and Crewel but non about Grandfather Trein, since he have two adult kids of his own what would it be like to be their granddaughter be like?
Mozus Trein Granddaughter Reader
What a wonderful thought!!!
Trein isn’t afraid to mention his daughters and in tandem he might mention you in passing
He absolutely adores his darling granddaughter
Now when it comes to obsession with you Trein isn’t as obvious as Crewel or even Crowley on his best days
The people he’s close to are very established and he knows how much he loves them
He knows without a doubt that their happy and safe
But you being the youngest member of the family now is new
Young and vulnerable your his poor little grandbaby he has to protect
Especially if your mother has abandoned her overprotective roots
If he could help it you’d never step foot on Night Raven
He’s proud of his students but he’s always known his students can be…quite problematic
But whether its babysitting or another mysterious reason You are sent with him to the NRC
Crowley would probably agree simply because he’s intrigued
As likely as it is that Trein talks positively of you he might not even mention you at all
Enough so that the whole staff is just interested in seeing what you’re like
Either as strict as he is or calm and quiet you’re still a surprise
But the moment he steps away another side comes out
“He did tell me to make sure you serve your proper time in detention…but he never said how.”
Many who have met you without your grandfather present are under the impression you’re two-faced
Not really, Trein is well aware his granddaughter has a sadistic sense of socialization
So you’ll happily pretend like you’ve changed the moment he’s stepped away but in you two’s lonesome that's just how you are
“Dear, just make sure you’re not going too far. We wouldn’t want anyone having long lasting trauma. Not like last time.”
“Sure sure! But these boys are sturdy, they can handle it!”
“Make sure you take Lucius with you.”
“Of course Gramps…Hey Gramps?”
“Yes?”
“Love ya!”
“That child is going to be the death of me…love you too.”
As sad as it is to him to see you be interested in the boys your age
He knows any normal person should be more concerned for the boys that you keep hanging around
But if you’d ever decide to devastate the school in an apocalypse for ‘LOLZ’ he’s not necessarily stopping you
Its in your nature after all

The Tales of a Little Tiger: Chapter 13- This Little Light of Mine
Summary: Y/N Says goodbye to her grandparents and they return home. Yelena and Natasha have a heart to heart and discuss their childhood trauma as well as their fears for the future. Wanda has a conversation with Nat about her own trauma.
Melina hugged her daughter Nat as she fought hard to keep her tears at bay. “Do you really have to leave?” She loved having her family back home, especially now that she had a granddaughter to spoil.
“We will be back before you know it. Besides you and dad still have to come to Y/n’s first birthday party in a few months.” Nat said as she hugged her mom. She had never seen her adopted mother look so sad to see her go. It was a strange feeling, but one that she could get used to.
Alexei was taking it a lot harder than Melina as he didn’t want to let you go. He was currently holding you and giving you kisses on your rosy pink cheeks. His long beard was tickling your face which caused you to erupt into a fit of sweet giggles. “Don’t you forget your Dedu and Babu.” He said to you as he chuckled softly when you wrapped your little hand around his pinky finger.
“Dad, it’s going to be okay. Believe me Y/n isn’t going to forget you or mom. Look, her birthday is in two months and you can come stay with us and help us set up her party. Now, can I please have my baby?” Nat asked in a playful tone as she motioned for her dad to hand you over to her.
Alexei sighed sadly as he hugged you before handing you over to your mama. “I’ll see you soon, malen’kiy.” He then turned to Yelena and Kate who were saying goodbye to his wife. “So when will my youngest daughter have children?”
Melina’s jaw dropped as she gave her husband the scary “shut your mouth” look. “Alexei!”
“What? I'm Dedu now and I want more grandbabies to spoil.” He said as he shrugged his shoulders.
Nat and Wanda couldn’t help but giggle as they watched Kate and Yelena’s faces turn beet red. They found it adorable that both Melina and Alexei had slipped into their grandparent roles so easily.
Kate was the first to speak as she had finally found her voice. “Yelena and I actually have an announcement to make.” The brunette felt like her heart was going to beat out of her chest from nervousness. Some of her anxiety slipped away when she felt Yelena squeeze her hand reassuringly. “Yelena proposed to me last night and we’re getting married! We also are looking into fostering. After the incident with Y/n we realized that we do want to have children but we have a lot to learn before we adopt.”
It took a few awkward minutes for everyone to process what Kate had announced. Once everyone processed the wonderful news the room filled with love and congratulations. Yelena and Kate were squished in between Alexei, Melina, Wanda and Natasha who was still holding you.
You got lots of hugs and kisses when you clapped your hands excitedly even though you didn’t understand why everyone around you was so happy.
Once everyone settled Melina looked over at Kate, “wait. What incident with y/n were you talking about?”
Yelena’s face turned white as she locked eyes with her mom who had the, “what did you do to my grandbaby?” face.
Nat came to the rescue as she placed you in your Babu’s arms. “Nothing to worry about now. I think Y/n wants to give her Babu a kiss goodbye.”
You placed a slobbery wet kiss to your Babu’s cheek as she hugged you tightly.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The drive back home went smoother than expected as you had slept most of the way home. The rest of the time that you were awake you spent watching baby educational videos that your auntie Kate put on her phone for you.
Wanda sat in the backseat with you and Kate, as Natasha had insisted that her and Yelena could take turns driving home.
Natasha smiled when she turned to look in the backseat and found that you, Kate and Wanda had all drifted to sleep. Honestly it was a miracle for anyone to be able to sleep while Yelena was driving.
“So you and Kate are ready to tie the knot?” Nat asked as she made small talk with her sister. She was happy that Yelena had found an amazing woman who loved and cared for her.
Yelena’s cheeks blushed slightly as she nodded her head, “we are. I love her and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. She’s amazing in every single way… I just hope that I can be just as amazing for her.” The blonde bit her lip nervously as she gripped the steering wheel.
“You’re both made for each other. You will be a great wife and mother, sestra.” Nat said as she placed her hand reassuringly on her sister’s shoulder.
Yelena nodded her head, “I hope so. The last thing I want is for my trauma to seep into those that I love. I’m scared that my childhood trauma is going to affect me as a wife and mother one day.” She paused as she focused on driving. She was thankful that there weren’t many people out on the roads this late at night. “I mean… I forgive mom and dad, but what happened to us was… abuse. What if I ever hurt Kate or our children? Sometimes I have nightmares that I’m still a mind controlled assassin.” Tears fell down the blonde’s face as she felt her lips tremble.
Nat felt her heart break for her sister as she also shared the same thoughts and fears as her little sister. “Yelena. I’m sorry. I wish I could go back in time and rescue you from the Red Room. I should’ve gone back for you.” Natasha dug her nails painfully into her thighs as she felt her own tears fall down her cheeks before letting out a sigh. “I can’t change the past. We both can’t. But one thing that Wanda and Y/n have shown me is that I have the power to choose my present. We’ve both had so much taken from us, let’s not let Dreykov take our future away from us too. All we can do now is learn how to heal, and hold the ones we love close. I love you, sestra.”
Both sisters cried silently as they held each other’s hands in understanding. “I love you too, sestra.” Yelena said in a quiet whisper.
Wanda smiled to herself as she had woken up in the middle of their conversation. She was thankful that Nat and Yelena were knocking down the walls of their childhood trauma and getting closure.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wanda carried you into your nursery as you had just finished breastfeeding. She laid you on the changing table and changed your diaper. “Y/n, I love you so much sweet girl. You are bringing so much healing and love to this family. I don’t think I’ve ever seen your mama and her family so happy before. We are so lucky that you are our little tiger.” She said as she rocked you in her arms.
Natasha walked into the nursery and wrapped her arms around Wanda’s waist from behind. She loved watching Wanda be so loving and nurturing to you. “Thank you for loving me and Y/n.”
“I’ll always love you and Y/n.” Wanda said as she gently lowered you into your crib before turning and facing her girlfriend. “You both complete me… Nat there’s something I need to tell you… it’s about my past.”
“Whatever it is Wanda. I promise I’m not going anywhere. Come let’s go talk in the living room, I’ll make us some tea.” Nat said as she held her girlfriend’s hand and led her out of the nursery.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wanda sat on the couch crisscrossed as she sipped her tea carefully. She felt nervous to finally reveal her own trauma to the love of her life.
“I’ve always wanted to be a mother and there was a time in my life where I went to great lengths to have that possibility. After I lost Vision my heart felt dark and empty. We had talked about getting married, buying a house and having children. We dreamed of having twins… twin boys; but as you know Vision died before we could make our dreams come true.” Wanda took a shaky breath as she sat her mug of tea on the coffee table. She didn’t want to spill it due to her hands shaking.
“When Vision died I went to the town where we were supposed to build our life. I used my chaos magic and I created a fake version of the life that I had wanted. I created a fake reality where I was married to Vision, became pregnant and gave birth to two beautiful baby boys. Billy and Tommy had become my whole world and I loved them with every fiber of my being. The thing was that they weren’t actually real. I’m not ready to talk about how I lost them and the fake world that I had created; but what I need you to know is that I’ve done horrible things too, Nat. I’m scared just like you. I’m scared that if something happens to you and Y/n that I’m going to turn into the darker version of myself… when y/n almost died… I felt it. I felt my darker side.”
Natasha could tell that Wanda had been wrestling with your near death experience. To be honest everyone that almost lost their Little became even more protective of their babies. Since the incident Wanda hadn’t taken on any missions. “Wanda you’re not a monster. If anything ever happened to you or y/n, I would turn into the assassin that Dreykov raised me to be.” She said as she moved closer to her girlfriend and took her shaking hands into her own.
The stress and exhaustion hit Wanda like a ton of bricks as her shoulders relaxed. Her head hung low as she began to sob. She cried for the life that she had lost and she cried over watching you almost die. She knew that as an Avenger that it was her job to protect everyone, but she didn’t want to lose you or Natasha in order to save the world. She would always go above and beyond to protect those that she loved.
Nat instantly pulled Wanda into her lap and embraced her. She felt her own tears fall down her face. She hated seeing the woman she loved break apart; but this is what healing looked like. This is what facing your fears and doubts looked like. Darkness grows in isolation. She knew that better than anyone. “Let it out, moya lyubov'. I’m right here. You’re safe, we are all safe and we are home.”
Both women held each other as they let their walls continue to fall. They opened up and talked about their fears, their broken and fractured memories, and they shed light onto their dark pasts. They both had done horrific things that they weren’t proud of, but opening up about those things and being gentle with themselves was what they both needed. It would be a learning curve for them to fully heal from their pasts, but they weren’t alone anymore. Their little tiger was shedding light, love, and healing onto all that was dark.
Author's Notes:
Thank you for continuing to read this story. I've started to map out where I want this story to go and where I want to take all of the characters. I've decided that I want this to show the healing and character growth of all the characters and not just showcase the reader's journey. I feel that in this story the reader is growing and healing, but she is also bringing light to those around her, and when light sheds on darkness things are uncovered. As for the timeline of things I've decided that it will not follow the true timeline of the movies and shows, and the events that are mentioned will have different endings than the ones we are familiar with. I'm also planning on bringing other characters from the MCU but like I said it won't follow the timelines that we are familiar with. I hope that I won't upset or confuse anyone. I know change is hard, but my advice is to read the rest of this story from a different perspective. What I've found has helped me is viewing this world as an alternate timeline than the one we know and love.
I will say that this story is far from done and I'm thinking that this story will go on for some time. One of my goals this year is to get better at updating my stories, I hope that in the next few months I will be able to have a set schedule for updates. Again I want to thank everyone for being so kind and patient with me.

Emily Louise Kailman
Traits: Child of Spring, Clever, Encouraging
Headstrong, ambitious, and romantic from the beginning, Emily Louise was the strong-willed out of her and her twin brother, DJ. When she met Chadwick, old sister Dayla Ann's childhood best friend, she knew she had to have him and swiftly won him. With her inheritance after graduating, she bought a house in Henford-on-Bagley to play out the small-town love story of her parents with Chadwick. Having fallen out of love with the fiery Sim, he broke it off not long after moving in together. Crippled with the grief of the dream lost and her first major breakup, Emily Louise did the big chop on her girlhood curls, got a big girl job, and found herself. Once on her own feet, she ventured back into romance through online dating and met Aden Blum, a similarly-raised country boy with a big heart who ultimately won her over on the first date. After their first night together, however, Emily Louise stared at the little blue pregnancy test in shock: what would her parents think of this? What about her dream of climbing the corporate ladder? Upon telling Aden, his sincere concern and trust in her ability to choose what she wanted from this affirmed that this surprise was worth seeing. Emma and Dalton quickly welcomed Aden into the fold, especially after hearing the news of a new grandbaby, and the two welcomed their first son, Mason. Since then, she's become a higher-up in the business career while Aden adores being a stay-at-home father. After he proposed, the two welcomed another son, Maddox, and moved to Sulani thanks to an incredible work opportunity. The little family is thriving on the islands' beautiful beaches and is eager to make it official soon in...

Sunshine Verse Next Gen - Sunshine Sparkle
Finally getting around to posting ref sheets for this next gen!
(I’m not much of an artist, but I hope to be getting into written content soon)
Name: Sunshine Sparkle
Nicknames: Sunshine, Sunny, Shiny, Shine. Most often goes by Sunshine or Shine.
Gender: Female (She/Her)
Species: Pegasus
Backstory: As the first born daughter of Princess Twilight Sparkle, Sunshine’s birth got a lot of attention. Most were expecting an alicorn, like Flurry, to be born. To the surprise of most, perhaps not least of which her mother, she arrived as a Pegasus.
Stellar Flare, immediately a proud grandma, explained at once that her own father Nova Amber had been a Pegasus, too. Though Stellar spoils all her grandbabies, Sunshine was her first and she undoubtly the one she spoils the most.
Twilight did her best to spoil her little one, too, given she was often busy with her royal duties, and Sunburst was very much Sunshine’s primary caregiver. She grew up a daddy’s girl, and a lover of books and theory, but not so much a lover of court life.
This wasn’t something either parent forced her into more that absolutely necessary. She would often duck out early with Sunburst when she was little enough to get away with it, and make excuses for most lesser events when she got older.
Both were also incredibly proud when Sunshine gained her cutie mark helping with the Winter Wrap Up in ponyville, and proved to have roughly the same amount of raw magical talent (in Pegasus form) as her mother. Officially, she is the Princess of Seasons. Sunshine does travel and assist with severe weather events, accidents, and season changes often.
Most of the time, though, she is a simple weather worker and happy that way. Sunshine does not advertise who she is, much as she loves her parents. She never was one for the spotlight. When Ladybug was born a number of years after her, and a unicorn to boot, it took a lot of the attention off her. Sunshine has always been grateful, and the two get along very well.
Sunshine is the one most often to visit Aunt Sunset and Aunt Pinkie in their world, the one to dart down and spend time with both sets of grandparents, and the one to encourage her cousins to get together. Family is very important to Sunshine... just not in a royal way.
There are citizens who feel that Sunshine’s talent is being wasted in what they consider to be a “menial job”, and many who think she does have alicorn potential. Sunshine disagrees with both and is, currently, quite happy where she is.
Traits: Sunshine is the child of two very nervous ponies - it shows. She’s extremely socially anxious in new situations, and hates things like ordering food or cold calling strangers. Though she’s very smart, she often has a hard time articulately it out loud and will have to write it to really get her point across.
Both shy and an introvert, Sunshine often feels lucky to have such a big, weird, and supportive family. Around her friends, especially the close ones, Sunshine blooms into a funny, well spoken pony, who will absolutely talk to you about books or magic or weather for hours. If you don’t mind, of course.
She, Cardinal, and Specter, who are nearly the same age, have been thick as thieves just about their whole lives. Cheesecake, who is about a grade above the both of them in age, joined the squad later on and dragged Gala along for the ride.
Sunshine will always turn to Sunburst first, though, in a crisis - something he has never taken for granted. Over the years, he’s become quite good at advice, and Sunshine nearly always listens to him. She and her mother, though also close, don’t have this exact bond. Often, Twilight will hear about Sunshine’s problems through Sunburst and have to track her down to talk about her with them. Its an odd system, but it tends to work for them.
Over all, she is a kind girl; and loves what she does and helping people. She stores a lot of facts in her head, and she’d never hesitate to pull them out if she thinks someone would benefit from it.
Appearance: Sunshine is a light blue Pegasus with one white foot. She has lavender hooves and a lavender mane. Her irises are yellow, and her fur accents are dark blue. She had blue feathers near each hoof, except for the one white foot, where the feathers are white. There are dark blue feathers above her tail as well. Her tail is lavender, with a yellow streak.
Cutiemark: A golden shield with the four seasons represented on it (a water drop, a sun, a leaf, and a tree). Sunshine is exceptionally skilled in all types of weather magic, especially changing seasons.
Parents: Princess Twilight Sparkle and Sunburst Shimmer
Siblings: Ladybug Sparkle
(Paper Reed sort of counts as an AU siblings?)
Cousins: Flurry Heart, Even Beat, Morganite and Mara Sparkle, Luster Dawn, Aurora Daydream, Stardust Pie
Close Friends: Gala Apple, Specter Rush, Cheesecake Pie, Cardinal Shy

-Elvis POV-
God damn, this woman is driving me crazy. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. I see her everywhere, in everything. I can’t go one minute without thinkin of her and that blonde curly hair. Being near her felt like a little glimpse of heaven, even when she’s mad at me. I’d do sinful things to get a taste of that sweetness, especially if it meant escaping this hell for even a second.
I shake her from my thoughts. Gotta knock this shit off, I got a show comin up soon. Can’t be caught distracted now
I stand in front of the mirror while brushing my teeth. As I bend down to spit, I feel a small arm snake around my waist. Marcella reaches her head around my arm to peek at me through the mirror. “My mom’s wondering when we’re gonna be bringing some grandbabies over to visit her.” She whispers, as she begins to untie my robe.
I rinse the toothbrush off, throwing it over onto a nearby towel. “‘Cella, I just got Charles, can we slow down a sec.” I reply calmly, but feel irritated just looking at her.
She huffs, pulling away to put her hands on her hips. “We’ve been married for how long now, Elvis? You have barely made love to me since the day you put this ring on my finger.” She holds up her hand as if I’d need help realizing which ring she was talkin bout.
I clench my jaw, storming out the bathroom. “I told you, I just ain’t really that type.”
She scoffs, following close behind me. “‘Ain’t that type’? Ain’t that something. It’s cause of her! I’m not as stupid as you think I am.” I sit down on the edge of the bed, rubbing my temple with my hand. Everytime this woman speaks I get a headache. “My father already hasn’t taken the news lightly, so I suggest you finally move on from her to not further upset him.” She crosses her arms, stomping towards the door. I raise my head, just as she opens it. She looks back at me over her shoulder, taking a deep exhale before she speaks. “Look, I’m willing to forget about all this, but I did see a little blue shirt in the window of the boutique downstairs, if you wanna make it up to me. It’s the least you can do after everything.” And with that, she slams the door shut.
Lord, how’d I get myself into this mess.
Later in the day, I get the boys over to talk production, Charles in my bedroom watching TV since I apparently had to watch him for Honey’s…evening talk with an old friend. Things go fine, until I leave the room to grab a cola. On my way back from the fridge, I overhear their conversation.
“Damn she sure is a fine woman though.”
“She’s E.P.’s baby mama if you wanna get in between that.”
“You bet I don’t.”
“The hell you two talkin bout?” The boys go quiet, turning around to look at me, watching as I sit down at the desk in the living room scattered with papers and letters. I scoff at their hesitant faces. “She’s more than just a baby mama.”
“Really? And what would that be?”
I gulp down some of my drink, setting it down frustratedly with a loud clunk. “A good friend.”
“You hear that? She’s a ‘good friend’.”
“Oh, I ain’t got no doubts.”
The boys go back and forth, laughing and clearly having no fear of testing my patience today. “Alright, now all’a’ya put a sock in it, and keep her outta your thoughts ‘fore I have to leave a handprint across your faces.” I glare at each of them in the room, but they only snicker at my attempt to warn them.
Jerry dares to speak up. “Elvis, I’ve known you for years and you never mentioned a- what do you call her? Bumble?” He asks over the edge of his glasses.
“Cause I don’t want to. Now, I need you to go to those shops downstairs and buy a blue shirt in the window.” I say, steering the conversation away from her.
He raises an eyebrow. “Just…a blue shirt? What shirt?”
I rest my elbows on the desk, rubbing my temples roughly. “I don’t know, man. Any fuckin blue shirt you see down there.”
He thinks for a moment, before reluctantly standing from his chair and sliding out the door, following the orders I gave him. Now that that conversation is over, let’s move on to some real business-
“Billy, you said you knew her before right? You got any beans to spill on the whole situation?” Red questions.
I clench my jaw, throwing my head over the back of my chair in annoyance.
“Yeah, he was crazy bout her back in the day. Them two was always sneakin ‘round the cops. He’d even go dancing with her.” He snorts out a laugh until he makes eye contact with me, then his face drops. “Sorry, cous’.”
“See, how come we never heard this?” Joe asks.
“Ain’t easy to talk about.” I respond quietly. “Now can we move on from this topic?”
There’s a knock on the door.
George stands since he’s the closest to the entrance. “Yeah, come on guys. Gotta keep quiet before one of Elvis’ girls shows up.” He taunts with a laugh.
My knuckles turn white, gripping the bottle in my hand. “Girl. I have one.” I demand.
He only chuckles, opening the door to reveal Thomas standing behind it. “Hey, E.P.!” He greets, casually stepping in. He’d been stopping by for the past few days. Ran into him while I was out bringing Marcella shopping down the strip. We had already gotten pretty familiar with each other again before Honey reunited with him. Now I don’t even wanna look at him, just Michael all over again. “I was just wondering if you knew where Honey’s suite was. Supposed to be takin her out, you know.”
The boys amusedly turn to watch my reaction to this. I ain’t gonna give them the satisfaction of blowin up, or actin jealous, or anything childish like that. I have Marcella, and they know that. Ain’t nothin going on between Honey and I. If she wants to date, then-
I guess-
Damnit, it ain’t important right now!
“You know Honey too?” Billy buds in.
Please, Billy. Now ain’t the damn time.
But Thomas smiles at his question. “Yeah! We grew up together, Me, E.P., Honey, and Michael. We all lived in the same town, doin our best to impress her. E.P. and Michael was always fightin over her every time they got the chance. We all had a little crush on her, but I wasn’t bout to get in between them two. Whoo! They was bad.” He chuckles, pointing over towards me. “Glad that’s over.”
I scoff with a smile. “Easy to like the only girl in the whole town.” I add, downplaying incredibly.
Just then, the door knob spins, metal creaking as it opens. Little blonde curls peak through. Honey apologetically smiles as she opens the door further to reveal the rest of her. She has on a red dress, fitting tightly over her body, just like the ones I used to buy for her. Her hair is up, some curls falling over her exposed collarbone and breasts.
The boys laugh at my joke from before, but everyone’s smile disappears upon seeing her. My God, she’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
“You sure that was the only reason?” My head snaps back over to Thomas, who’s biting his lip looking at the exact areas of her body I was.
“What they got growin in Tupelo?” Sonny whispers with his jaw on the floor.
I could slap each one of ‘em silly right about now.
Her heels clank on the marble floors as she walks over to Thomas. “Sorry if I’m interrupting anything.” She says sweetly.
Thomas stands pathetically quickly. “No, not at all. I was just looking for you actually.”
I can’t watch this no more.
-Honey’s POV-
“So, what are you doin out here with E.P. then? You his stage manager or somethin?”
I chuckle, following beside Thomas as we walk down the strip. “No, no. Just visiting. I used to be a singer too actually.”
His eyes widen. “Really?” He says with a big smile. “I’d love to hear you sing sometime.”
I force out a nervous laugh. “Oh, no. I don’t do that no more. Haven’t in a long time.”
He smacks his lips. “Tsk, don’t be that way. Once a singer, always a singer. You know what,” He stops in his place to face me. “I saw the perfect place the other day for you to sing for me.”
I cross my arms with a grin, anxiously excited by his offer. “Oh, I’m singin for you now?” I raise a brow.
He smirks at me. “Yeah, I wanna see what you got.” He tilts his head to the side. “Come on. Let’s go.” He offers his arm out to me and I gladly take it, following in the direction of whatever place he has on his mind.
We arrive at a club filled with song, drink clanking, and chattering. It’s very casual in its looks, yet somehow still refined and skilled, like its inhabitants are laid back with their excellence. I recognize tunes like these, the clothes they wear, the gently calloused fingers. These are actual musicians.
A few customers turn to watch us enter, eyeing my dress as we walk by. I cross my arms around my body, feeling inexperienced and overdressed, as though I was trying to excel in looks where I likely lacked in talent. Great, another place to feel like I don’t belong.
I follow Thomas to two seats in front of the bar, where he orders drinks for us.
“So, you come by Michael at all?” He asks as the bartender sets our drinks down in front of us.
I raise my eyebrows, taking a sip. “Oh lord, he’s crazy.”
He laughs, slapping a hand down on his thigh and stirring his drink in the other. “Well, sounds like you have a crazy story to tell. What happened?” He stares at me with a soft, flirtatious squint that almost leaves me flustered, but not quite.
“Tried to make me a real singer and take me to Chicago with him cuse he thought I’d make him big money, but when I told him I didn’t wanna leave Memphis he got real mad. He started throwin a hissy fit and everythin. Real jealous type.” I scoff, taking another sip.
Thomas wide eyes me. “Damn.” Is all he manages to say, causing both of us to laugh. Saying it out loud for the first time made me realize just how ridiculous that time of my life really was. Kinda miss it though, in a weird way.
I sigh, turning in my chair towards him. “Yeah, turns out he had a lot more on his mind when we were kids than he let on. Elvis was there to see it all, even fought him too. Shit, you shoulda seen his face when Michael and I-”
I pause.
In the corner of my view lies the door. In from the door walks a man in an obnoxiously bright suit with his infamous crew of men behind him.
Speak of the fucking devil.
I should have known this asshole would pull anything and everything to stop this date from happening, yet here I am, shocked and unprepared.
He yanks off his sunglasses, grazing the room, landing on me with an annoyingly knowing grin. I glare deeply into his face, hoping it would be enough to steer him away and back out the door, but he just keeps treading forward.
He opens his arms, reaching out to place them on the backs of our stools. “Hey! What’re you doin here? Heard this joint was busy, but had I known you two would be here, I’d gone another night.”
Oh, I’m sure he would have. I’d hiss at him if I could!
Thomas smiles, reaching for a handshake. “Hey. No problem E.P. Think you’ll like some of the cats in here anyway.”
No problem? This is a big problem!
I have no doubt that Elvis will stop at nothing to embarrass me in front of Thomas. It’s all he’d do as kids and he’s only become more of a menace with age.
“Hey.” I whisper through my teeth to him. “Who’s watching-”
“Marcella.” He answers, already knowing.
Oh, I don’t like that woman being near my baby so much. For all I know, she could be filling his head with lies.
A loud howl of a voice echoes through the microphone causing all of us to turn to the stage.
“Woo! That man ain’t singin, he’s sangin!” Thomas exclaims.
Elvis matches in enthusiasm. “You think that’s impressive, you should see Beale after the sun go down. Woowee, now that’s somethin. He got himself a nice 4 piece up there though.” The bartender hands him over a drink and he sips from it with a concentrated smile.
Jerry and the others sit at a table behind us, watchin the stage as Elvis works his torturous ways.
The song comes to a close. As the band exits backstage, a man walks on, dressed nicely in a suit, smiling wide for the crowd. ‘Alright, I’m back, remindin’ you once again that it is amatuer night, so any one of you is welcome to take the stage, whether you’re Aretha Frankin or just wish you were. Nah, I’m just playin. But if you got vocals, come up and show the locals! Ha ha!”
Elvis lets out a devious hum and I instantly know what I’m about to have to do.
“Honey ever tell you she used to sing?”
Lord.
My heart immediately starts beating faster. I better start picking out a song now while I have the time.
“Yeah, she did. That’s why we came here. Said she’d sing for me.” Thomas looks me up and down in a very flirtatious way.
“Did she now?” Elvis says deeply, looking down at me in my spot. I could have laughed at how upset this whole situation clearly made him, but I’d have to hold it in for now, I have to think quick. He forces a smile on his face. “Well, I think that settles it. Show em what you got, Bumble.”
I shake my head. “Oh no, I don’t think so.” Oh, I will, but I need to buy more time to think of a perfect song.
Elvis comes close, resting his arm on the bar right in front of my stool. “Go on stage.” He softly commands. “Wanna hear you sing again.” My chest fills with butterflies. Song. What song! I shake my head anxiously, as he grins, waving his arms in the air to get the attention of the man on stage. “Hey! She’ll sing! Right here!” He yells, so the entire audience can turn to look at me.
The man on stage shouts out a ‘woo!’ as he calls me up. I’m gonna be sick. I slide off my chair, but before I can walk towards the front, Elvis grabs my arm. “You’ll be great. You always are.” He whispers. A small chill runs against the sensitive part of my arm. I look down seeing the small silver band wrapped around his finger, cooling my skin. When I look up, I’m met with my two childhood friends, both of which smirking quite lustfully at me. They both think I’m beautiful, and they both know I’m talented. I know a lot more about music than either of them remembered. This fills me with a sense of confidence, all previous thoughts vanishing from my mind. I know a song.
Elvis takes back his hand, leaning against the bar and nodding me towards the stage.
I’ll show him what he walked away from.
The crowd cheers as I walk towards the stage with my head high. I fling my hair over my shoulder, which is contrasting so nicely against the red dress I chose out today. In this moment, I feel more beautiful than I ever did in my 20’s. Maybe it was maturity, maybe it’s because I know Elvis is looking, whatever it is, it has me feeling ready to take on the world.
The man hands me the mic, but I lower it to speak to the band. I ask them if they knew the song I had in mind. They smile upon hearing the name, causing me to mirror their smile. “Alright, lay me down somethin.” I say into the mic now, facing the crowd. Elvis tips his head to the side in amusement, not expecting me to react this way.
The guitarist begins the first notes of the song. I speak the beginning lyrics, just like the real singer does.
‘You broke my heart
'Cause I couldn't dance
You didn't even want me around’
For a moment, my heart bubbles up with fear seeing how everyone’s eyes are on me, but I easily push it away, knowing that I had what it takes to wow them in the way I always dreamed of doing since I was a little girl.
‘And now I'm back
To let you know
I can really shake 'em down’
There was no time to lose now.
I conjure up all those years of practicing, shouting out the next part just like Michael, the church, and Elvis have tried teaching me to do for years, only just now finally succeeding in doing it right and singing with that power I always strived for.
‘Do you love me?
Now do you love me?
Now that I can dance.’
I parade across the stage doing little dances for the audience members in the front row to enjoy, getting a slight high for their positive reactions, which only helps me continue on.
‘Now tell me baby
Do you like it like this
Tell me
Tell me!
Watch me now, hey!’
I grab the mic stand, twirling my hips in big circles in time with the music, watching carefully over my shoulder at my men of interest. I smile when I see I’ve succeeded in entrancing both of them, and then some. There are a lot more things I can get away with doing now than I could in the 50’s and it’s clearly leaving them speechless.
‘(Work, work)
Ah, shake it up, shake it
(Work, work)
Ah, shake 'em, shake 'em down’
I giggle seductively into the microphone, taking a look in the back to make eye contact with Elvis. His face is in a war, deciding whether to smile in amazement or stare me down for dancing in such a provocative way in front of everyone, which only makes my smile widen further.
I'm working hard baby
Well, you're driving me crazy
And don't you get lazy’
I don’t look back at them for the remaining portion of the song, but when I do, I’m met with the most thrilled pair of eyes. The crowd cheers while I catch my breath, but I can barely hear them over the sound of my beating heart that longed to hear every thought that raced through the mind of one man in particular.
Under the shadows of the club, I catch Thomas mouth an ‘ooo’ with an impressed smile, watching as I walk to them.
“God damn, lil mama. Where the hell’d’you learn all’at?” Elvis asks quietly when I sit back down in front of them.
I shrug. “Just kinda felt it in the moment, I guess.” I giggle, but it fades when I make eye contact with him. The way he was looking at me, Lord, I could pounce on him.
“That was real good, Bumble.” He admits earnestly.
I mutter a quiet thank you, as he sits down at the table next to Billy and Jerry.
“Man, that kid of yours gonna be one hell of a musical genius with a mama like her.” Billy says, patting him on the shoulder.
Thomas eyes Billy with scrunched brows. Suddenly, I feel the need to hold my breath, as if that would stop anything bad from happening. He slowly turns back towards me, still in heavy thought. “Charles…is your baby?” Now he looks at me.
My body stills. “I-uh, I figured you seen the news, was alright with everything.” I’m surprised Elvis didn’t tell him the second he got the chance, he knows information like that could ruin my chances. In fact, why didn’t he tell him?
“You and E.P. had a baby together?” He asks again, just to clarify.
My heart drops. “Yeah. But we aren’t together anymore. Is that…okay…?” It obviously was not okay with him, but I didn’t know what else to say.
His eyes widen. He looks around the club, shaking his head, as if desperately searching for a way out. “Yeah, no- I- Listen, Honey. You’re beautiful and all, but I ain’t lookin to get involved with kids right now. And-”
“No! It’s fine. I’m sorry. I should’ve told you. I’m not mad.”
He makes a reluctant smile at me, but awkwardly stepping off his chair and leaving me there to walk out the front door.
I turn towards the bar, shielding myself away from the rest of the club. A lone tear rolls down my face, but I wipe it away angrily.
God, this is embarrassing. Why am I even crying? I didn’t even really like him, he was just to get back at Elvis. But-...is this how everyone will react? Am I too old to be dating? Will having a kid ruin my chances of finding love again? Will being involved with Elvis make everyone run in fear? Maybe I’m just destined to be alone now. I had one great love affair and that’s all I’ll ever get. I guess most people never even get to experience the love Elvis and I used to have, so I should just be grateful I had it at all.
“You okay, Bumble? Why’d he run off like that?” Elvis asks, taking Thomas’ old chair.
I let out a long, defeated breath. “What do you want?”
“I wanna know that you’re okay.”
I roll my eyes. “Aren’t you happy? Don’t gotta worry about me dating, and you were right, no man even dares to look in my direction, just like you wanted.”
I huff, about to put my old drink to my mouth, but Elvis pulls it from my lips. “Don’t go down that road. Please. I can’t lose you too.” I look into his soft eyes, letting him take the drink from my hand and set it back down on the bar. “But yes, I am very happy.” I scoff out a light chuckle. I hate that he can always make me smile, even when I’m mad at him. He reaches out for my hand. “Come on, let’s get to the car. I’ll bring you back to the hotel.”
I follow him out back, slouching into one of the cars with him.
He sighs. “I really don’t like the idea of raising my boy alongside another man, you know.” He spreads his legs out across the edge of the seat, not scandalously, but welcoming nonetheless.
I cross my arms. I’m not gonna give into my thoughts. “Is that the only reason I’m not allowed to date?”
He scoffs, shaking his head at me and looking out the window. “Ain’t never said you weren’t allowed.” His hand rests on his thigh, patting down on it. If I didn’t know any better I’d say he was taunting me over, unless that was my own heat talking.
I lean up in my seat, eyes glossing over him. Thomas or not, it’s supposed to be me teasing him. He’s supposed to be under my spell tonight, not the other way around. I reach behind me to push up the car’s partition, which catches his immediate attention. “So tell me right now, Elvis.” I gently push myself towards him, shimmying up my dress enough that I’m able to straddle his legs. He instinctively grabs my hips to ground me against him as we drive over a bump, which only results in me bouncing in his lap in a tortuous way for the both of us. “Tell me, ‘Honey, I’m perfectly okay seein you with another man.’” I whisper into his ear.
And here I thought all the childish bullshit games stopped after Michael. Guess we still have a little zest left in us.
He lets out a guttural groan, throwing his head back against the seat. “Bumble, don’t start this with me.”
I ghost my lips over his neck, purposely making an effort not to directly touch him. My warm breath glides down his skin, causing his hairs to raise. His grip on me tightens, making my body shiver, wanting so desperately to give in.
Those feelings are never gonna go away no matter how hard I try, there was little to no point in running any longer. I’m sick of pretending like I’m some saint, I wanna know how he really feels.
“Is she as good as me, baby?” It's the first time I’ve reciprocated a nickname for him. He tilts his head back up, looking into my eyes with his dangerously hooded ones. I giggle at his expression, knowing I was teetering over the edge of our respectable boundary. “Do you think about me when you’re with her?” I wouldn’t have had the guts to ask something like this, but I know he does. I know he still thinks of me, because I can’t stop thinking about him. “Do you think about how I used to feel?”
He twitches beneath me, pulling me closer to him. “Shit,” He mutters under his breath. Yeah, he still thinks about me. It takes so much effort not to touch him that I feel on the verge of passing out from exhaustion. “You’re playin a dangerous game and you know it, baby.” He digs his fingers into my thighs, pushing me down into him, but nothing more.
I’m older now, wiser, bolder. If I would have had this same confidence 10 years ago. I would have left him weak to his knees. However, I’ve quickly made a new discovery being with him for just these few weeks. While I’ve grown more assertive, it seems so has he. We have both changed and grown over the past years, but my strength to resist him has not. Instead of surprising him and making him weak with the new me like I thought I’d be able to do, I’m matched with an even more powerful force of lust and seduction than I ever dreamed of him having. As if he wasn’t enough as is, he just keeps getting better.
The car drives over another bump, making my breasts bounce against his chest, while the rest of my body adds pressure to his lap. I crumble into him, allowing myself only to wrap my arms around his neck. He grinds his teeth, closing his eyes to concentrate.
I shouldn’t give in so easily, but he’s all I have left from my old life, all I have left of my youth. Every time I see him is a reminder of home, a reminder of what should have been.
Just then the car comes to a stop. Before I can get off of him, the door is pried open, shining the blinding garage lights onto us in the otherwise dark car. I quickly push myself off Elvis, exiting the car and giving an apologetic look to Jerry, who thankfully is the one that opened the car door.
Elvis steps out next to me, straightening himself out. “Jerry, could you see Bumble back to her room, please.”
Jerry agrees awkwardly, escorting me to the doors. We stay quiet through the hotel lobby, until we get to the privacy of the elevator. “I couldn’t help but notice you still have something going on with E.P, if you don’t mind me asking, cause I don’t dare bother him about it.”
I scoff out a laugh. Was he actually that intimidating to them? I know he’s prone to having a temper, but he’s nothing but a baby around me most the time. Then I remember he’s waiting for an answer. What could I possibly say?
I sigh. “I’ve known him my whole life, Jerry. Shit, I’ve known him longer than his own mama.” Unfortunately, it was true now. “I love him, as a friend, as a lover. I tried to ignore it, but he really does mean the world to me. I only ever wanted him and it should have only been him, but we were too progressive for the times.” I stare blankly into the metal doors of the elevator. “Shoulda been my ring.” I shake my head. “Doesn’t matter anymore.”
The door dings open.
“Thanks for bringing me up. I got it from here.”

Slashers reaction to the reader referring to them as their boyfriend/partner to other people for the first time?
The Slashers reacting to their S/O referring to them as their Boyfriend/Girlfriend to other people for the first time:
Thomas Hewitt
It was no secret that you and Tommy were together, always by each other’s side, acting lovesick.
Luda May wasn’t shy about voicing your relationship, already referring to you as Thomas’ partner and to Thomas as your boyfriend, she already had her mind set on a future of weddings and grandbabies.
Her talk had always made the two of you flustered and embarrassed, neither of you really confirming her claims of your relationship.
You had been down at the gas station with Luda May and Thomas, she had asked Thomas to come to help move some crates and you had already been there to help her watch the place.
A group of travellers had pulled in, getting some gas and stocking up on snacks.
Being a friendly and trustworthy face, you were sent out to greet them and ask if they needed assistance. Thomas had been lifting another crate and had looked over to you, always protective over you, especially when it came to strangers. Eventually one of the men had commented on Tommy’s staring as he worked, scoffing to himself.
“Oh, that’s Tommy, my boyfriend. He’s just a little protective, you never know the type you might run into ‘round here” you reassured them with a smile, fully knowing that it was the Hewitt family that nobody wanted to run into around here.
Of course, Thomas overheard you, and your declaration instantly made him blush, quickly busying himself with his work again.
He’s overjoyed though, hearing you refer to him as your boyfriend, sounding so proud of him, he loved you so much and each day you convinced him that you felt the same. He also likes that these strangers know that you’re together.
Michael Myers
You were seeing some friends and Michael had gotten bored, heading out to find you and continue with his usual stalker shenanigans since he seems to enjoy stalking you when he’s bored and you’ve left him at home. He saw you talking to some of your friends, you were saying goodbye.
They had tried to get you to stay a little longer but you had smiled, telling them that you had to get home to your boyfriend. Of course they had demanded to finally meet this mysterious boyfriend but you shook your head at them before heading home, where Michael would already be when you arrived.
So, you had been referring to him as your boyfriend to your friends for a little while...he isn’t going to bring it up, he’ll act like he never heard it, like he was at home this whole time.
He won’t say anything but he ponders it for a moment, if that’s how you want to refer to him...he’s more than okay with that. Maybe more okay with it than he would admit to himself.
Jason Voorhees
You had gone on a walk through the woods and had wandered into the old camp. You hadn’t been aware of intruders but accidently stumbled upon a group of trespassers who had just arrived and where getting bags out of their car.
The group had turned to you, surprised but friendly. You, on the other hand, panicked a little, knowing you shouldn’t interact with them too much. Jason would be coming to deal with them some time soon.
“Uh sorry...I was just looking for my boyfriend...bye!” you practically ran off, back towards the cabin, knowing that Jason would want you to be somewhere safe and out of the way.
Jason had seen it all from his hidden spot in the trees. At first he had been worried when you stumbled upon the group, worried that you would get hurt or something.
But his heart fluttered when he heard you referring to him as your boyfriend, liking the way it sounded and how it made him feel.
You had been staying with him for a while now and the two of you had become close, certainly entering a more romantic relationship. But that was the first time you had used the title, and you had done so with so much ease.
Yes, he was your boyfriend, and he adored you.
Brahms Heelshire
You and Brahms were certainly dating, at least he definitely thought so and believed that you did too.
The delivery boy had come with your most recent grocery delivery, and you had answered the door.
The two of you were chatting for a while, slowly irritating Brahms, who was sure that the delivery boy had a thing for you.
You had never really thought the delivery boy liked you but he was getting friendlier lately and you knew how much it bothered Brahms, so you had just casually slipped in some talk about your boyfriend (not mentioning Brahms’ name of course), just to get the point across to both of them.
The delivery boy had always been friendly and that had always made Brahms a little jealous but now that the man knows that you have a boyfriend, Brahms feel more confident that he won’t try anything and it makes him just a little less jealous.
Brahms is looking pretty smug when you close the front door and he comes to greet you, you barely have the chance to roll your eyes at him before he’s pulling you into a kiss.
You can’t help but smile fondly at how proud and happy he seems with his new title.
Bo Sinclair
You and Bo had been getting closer, what you had definitely wasn’t ‘casual’ but neither of you had really talked about it. Bo didn’t like talking about that kind of stuff and you didn’t want to bring it up and put him in a bad mood.
It was fine...until a group of visitors arrived in Ambrose.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a woman had flirted with Bo and he had allowed it, even flirted back to lull the strangers into a false sense of security. This would be the first time it made you jealous and you had every right to feel that way.
The flirtatious woman had laid it on fairly thick, Bo had only chuckled but hadn’t really returned the flirtations. You appreciated that but you still wished he would just tell her to stop or be a little less encouraging. You understood, you just didn’t like it.
Bo was looking at their car while you went to tell the group what was going on, telling them that ‘your boyfriend was just checking their car and should be done soon, he’s very good at his job’. You saw how the woman pulled a face at that, which satisfied you at least a little.
Bo had already been on his way over and had overheard how you had referred to him, making him smirk to him, both because of the title but also because of your jealousy.
Now, he just had to mess with you.
He walked over, announcing that their car needed a new fan-belt as he wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you into his side.
You knew that he was being extra obvious in front of the woman, probably more to mess with you than anything, and you knew that he was going to tease you for this later on...but at least he was showing off your relationship in front of these strangers.
Vincent Sinclair
When visitors to Ambrose came by, Vincent would watch from a distance (especially when it came to you, just to make sure you were safe).
He’d listen to conversation he could catch, and he was currently listening to you speaking with the group about their car that they needed help with.
“Sure, I’ll just get my boyfriend, Vincent, to go pick up your car” you told the group politely with a smile.
Vincent was taken back by how you referred to him as your boyfriend, and how you did it so causally. He wondered if you knew he was listening, that he could hear you.
Obviously the two of you had gotten very close as of late, sharing more than a couple romantic moments, but you had never brought up the topic.
It’s fair to say that Vincent is a little flustered when he next sees you but you had truly made his day, made his week even.
Lester Sinclair
You were in Ambrose when a pair of strangers walked into the garage, telling you that their car broke down and some guy gave them a lift into down, saying that his brother owned the garage.
“I’m guessing it was my boyfriend who gave you a ride” you chuckled fondly, obviously knowing that it was Lester but keeping up some sort of act.
“Yeah, he did” Lester beamed proudly as he walked into the garage behind the pair.
You blushed a little, getting a little flustered by getting caught referring to him as your boyfriend, not that he seemed to mind.
When he heard the way you referred to him, it just put a huge smile on his face. He kind of knew that he was your boyfriend but this was the first time you had actually said it.
He greeted you warmly, pulling you into a hug and kissing your cheek, still beaming. It was sweet really. If Bo had seen, he probably would have gagged.
Bubba Sawyer
The brothers had been bickering and arguing, which was nothing new. Of course, you had started to defend Bubba, since he was pretty unconfrontational.
Drayton had scoffed and complained about you defending Bubba.
You had just responded with “well, he is my boyfriend”, without even thinking about it.
Nobody else (other than Bubba) was surprised by the word ‘boyfriend’. Just rolling their eyes at you and continuing with their bickering.
Bubba had the biggest smile on his face.
He accepts his new position as your boyfriend instantly. Yes, he is your boyfriend and he loves you so much.
He just gets a little giddy and wants to give and receive a lot of affection from you after that.
Billy Lenz
You had been on the phone with a friend. They had invited you out for the evening but you had politely declined, telling them that you were spending the night in with your boyfriend.
Of course, Billy had been listening in on the conversation, and as soon as you referred to him as your boyfriend he was grinning like an idiot.
It was more than obvious that the two of you were in fact dating, you just hadn’t put a name on it and Billy hadn’t really thought to do so. He felt like you had just made the relationship official, but he was more giddy at the thought of other people knowing that he was your boyfriend, that you would talk about him so fondly to your friends.
As soon as you put the phone down, Billy is on you, wrapping you up in his embrace, making you giggle as you returned the gesture, wondering what had gotten into him.
“I’m your boyfriend” he stated proudly, grinning from ear to ear before peppering your face with kisses, making you giggle again.
“Yes you are” you agreed fondly, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Asa Emory (The Collector)
You were at Asa’s home when you got a phone call from a friend, asking if you wanted to hang out that evening but you already had plans with Asa. And that’s what you told them.
“Sorry, I’m spending the evening with my boyfriend” you told them, smiling when they complained about not having met your boyfriend yet.
As soon as you hung up, Asa appeared next to you, holding out a drink for you. You couldn’t help but get a little flustered, knowing he had heard and also knowing that you hadn’t really defined your relationship like that yet.
“You could have told me” was all he really responded with as he sat down beside you. Clearly not minding the way you referred to him.
Asa isn’t an idiot, he knew that’s where your relationship was, he just hadn’t brought up the conversation yet. Now it seemed like it didn’t have too, and that was good to know.
Jesse Cromeans (Chromeskull)
You had decided to visit Jesse at his office, which he had told you that you could do whenever you pleased. When you arrive and were asking for him and the location of his office, you were met by a woman who seemed pretty hostile about your presence.
You definitely didn’t want to cause any trouble at Jesse’s work but she was being rude and you were getting tired, you just wanted to visit Jesse for lunch.
“Look, I’m just here to visit my boyfriend, I’ll just call him and let him know I’m here” you sighed, about to give up as you pulled your phone out of your pocket.
Luckily, Jesse had just been passing through the reception and had witnessed the end of your conversation. Smirking to himself when you referred to him as your boyfriend.
He approached before you could unlock your phone, tucking it away again as you smiled up at him.
Jesse nods to the woman, placing a hand on your back before guiding you up to his office.
Once you’re alone, he will playfully question you about how you had referred to him. After messing with you a bit and making you a little flustered, he reassures you that it’s perfectly fine. He is happy to call himself your boyfriend and to call you his partner.
From then on, everyone knows who you are and that Jesse is your boyfriend. You won’t be stopped or questioned again, don’t worry.
Otis Driftwood
You and Otis had gone to a nearby bar together, just to get out of the house and have a little fun. You had wandered over to the bar without him and when Otis looked over, he saw some guy flirting with you.
Jealousy and protectiveness (maybe some possessiveness) had Otis marching over to the two of you.
“Uh, yeah sorry, I have a boyfriend” he heard you tell the man, shifting away from him in discomfort. You glanced around and relaxed when you saw Otis approaching. “There he is!” you smiled brightly, you were quick to push yourself away from the bar and meet Otis.
He instantly wrapped an arm around you and pulled you close to him, protectively and possessively as he glared the man down.
Damn right, he’s your boyfriend. And he’ll make sure everyone here knows it.
You had never actually called him that before, never actually made whatever the two of you had official. But now you had, that’s all he had to know.
Baby Firefly
You and Baby had gone out to a bar to have a few drinks and probably cause some trouble. She was dancing even though nobody else was, just her, having a great time, as you watched on adoringly.
Some guy and come up beside you and asked who she was.
With a grin, you had proudly exclaimed “that’s my girlfriend!”
Of course, Baby had heard you and smiled about it to herself.
Once she finished dancing, she returned to you and the same guy moved closer, introducing himself to her and asking for her to introduce herself in return.
“I’m their fucking girlfriend” Baby stated proudly with a grin of her own, wrapping her arms around you as if to get her point across even more.
Yautja (Predator)
Of course introducing your family or your friends to your current partner (or ‘mate’, as he would call you) wasn’t really an option at the moment. But you had mentioned that you were seeing someone.
You were on the phone to a friend when they started asking about this mysterious person you had been seeing.
So, finally you told them to give your boyfriend some privacy, the two of you laughing before ending the call.
He had been referring to you as his mate for a while now and you assumed that was the same level, if not even more serious, than the title of boyfriend, so you figured it was okay.
And your mate thought so too. He knew what ‘boyfriend’ meant since you explained human dating to him, so when he heard, he knew what you meant and it just filled him with pride, knowing that you definitely felt the same as him.

I need Portia protecting Sir Philip and Penelope from the crazy Bridgerton family, like she is treating this like the zombie apocalypse whenever she sees those pesky Bridgertons. Penelope and Philip are going to be wed and she is ready to fist fight the lot of bridgertons. No way is she allow Colin and Eloise ruin her pure babies. Her having a near heart attack and fainting when those two ruining Team P.
Pfft. This would be like the perfect side quest for my Engagement of Convenience AU. If anyone is curious au being referenced is this post and the beginning is here.
Portia is not having it with these Bridgerton schemes. Penelope has secured herself a stable future with a gentleman who has a title, a home, and already made grandbabies! No third born son is going to take that from Penelope, especially one who practically declared her a spinster during her second season!
And poor Sir Phillip! That shy man wouldn't survive the scandal filled road the Bridgertons take on the way to the altar! And the children! One must think of the children! While Portia was not Marina's biggest fan she and the children were still family. Portia Featherington will always take care of her family. No a Bridgerton marriage simply won't do for either. Penelope knows how to run a house, finances and all, and can be a loving wife and mother.
If Portia could she would switch Prudence's wedding with Penelope's. She might have to start planning for Penelope's while finishing up Prudence's. The sooner Phillip and Penelope wed the better.
Maybe Portia could hint at a trip to Grenta Green. After all the whispers would die down next season, and then they can do the proper wedding. Or prehaps a special license? The Ton did note how close Phillip and Penelope were at the beginning of the season when they were trying to court others.
Hm, maybe. But for now she'll just have to run interference. Thankfully with the engagment the rules were a little more relaxed with Penelope and Phillip being alone. No one would bat an eye if Portia shoved them in a room together at a ball. Which she may have done when she saw a Bridgerton approaching.
Portia sends a letter to the family.
Little cousin Felicity, who has always adored her older cousin Penelope, and wants to see her cousin habe a happy life, helps distract Gregory and Hyacinth.
Prudence has strict orders to interfer with any Bridgerton trying to ask her sister for a dance at balls. If she overhears a Bridgerton asking Miss Featherington for a dance Prudence accepts and drags the Bridgerton to the floor.
Portia has stuck to her youngest daughter's side like glue and more than once forced Phillip and Penelope into dancing.
During calling time Portia sends Penelope off to see Phillip. While it might not be proper to have a lady call on a gentleman Portia decided that if it keeps pesky Bridgertons out of her home then screw the rules.
When the Bridgertons finally grow frustrated at Portia's counter meddling to their meddling Violet invites her over for tea. Portia sees it for what it is.
Negotiations.
Portia is unsurprised to see the new Viscountess and the Duchess by Violet's side. Tough she was surprised that the Viscount was not present. But then again in these houses the walls have ears.
"Portia you must reconsider Sir Phillip's and Penelope's marriage," Violet began. "Colin and Eloise-"
Portia raised her hand.
"Is Eloise ready for motherhood?" Portia questioned. "Because that what awaits anyone who marries Sir Phillip. He has honorably taken on the duty of fatherhood of two children who may I remind you are also a part of my family. Sir Phillip is a wonderful man who is doing what is best for his children, and he deserves a partner who can support him of that."
"And that boy does not deserve to call my daughter a friend much less claim that he loves her in private! He insults her in public, in her own home, and then tries courts her in private after she struggled to get herself engaged!" Portia exclaimed. "I don't care that he loves her! He will abandon my daughter once you all ruin her engagement to Phillip. He has proven himself to care more about what society has agreed with than Penelope and I will not let any of you ruin either of their lives to please those children!"
Portia stood. "If that is all I will be going home now."
Ignoring the three women Portia misses the crack in the wall. Walls have ears indeed.
A week later Portia glares at the invitation to Aubrey Hall for the week long celebration cohosted by the Dowager Viscountess and the new Viscountess Bridgerton.
Fine let the games begin.

Sequel to "It Takes A village"
It's June. Not much has happened except the twins graduating kindergarten. On to other things! You have planned a trip to Virginia to meet the bennets. You were excited for the boys to meet their sister. You hoped they'd get along cause even if they don't know their dad you want them to know their siblings. They're excited too they've been talking about it for weeks. You're just happy you have one less stress now that school is out for a little while. You still had work obviously but now you have time to spend with the boys. You found them a free day camp that they'll go to until you're done working.
You wished you could spend every day of the summer with them but you need to work. You did have weekends off though. So you planned to have a lot of fun on them. Going to park, swimming, zoo, you also wanted to teach them to ride their bikes without training wheels.
"Mommy why didn't you put us up for adoption like Amelia's mom did?" Flynn asks as you begin packing their bags. You look at him unsure of what to say. You've talked to Amelia's bio mom. You like her she's really nice and you've gained a friendship with her. She's told you her story, you told her yours.
"Well, uhm I had your Poppy and everyone else all there to help me with you two, while Amelia's mom didn't have that. She wanted to give her baby a good life though so she gave her to Janet and Kevin because they could give her that life." You try to explain in a way that he'd understand. It wasn't a lie you really did have more support in your life. She was going to be kicked out and unlike you she didn't have another place to call home.
"Well why didn't she give her to you so that we could have a sister?" Felix asks.
"Because she didn't know about me or you two." You put your hands on their knees. "But gran did and she connected us so that you two could meet your sister!"
"Gran is the best!" Felix grins.
"She really is." You smile. "Okay your bags are packed!"
———
"Dad we're meeting in public at a park. Multiple people will be there with us." You say into the phone as you drove to work. "I know your worried but even if we don't get along with them. They live close to washington DC we can go sight seeing."
"I know but Im just worried about you guys. I wish I could come with you." Chris says from the other side of the phone.
"I know."
"I wish you really would've taken Scott up on his offer to join you guys. I know you can take care of yourself but it is still dangerous." He says.
"I know... But it's too late the flight is tomorrow. It's only a week."
"Okay well keep me posted. How are the boys anyway?"
"They're so so excited. They can't wait to meet their sister." You say parking the car. "Oh dad I've been looking online at houses... I found a really nice one in Clinton. I won't be able to get it but when I don't have enough for a house I might look over there. I know the boys will have to change schools. But it really isn't far from you only like thirty minutes. And I looked at houses in Sudbury but they're so expensive."
"Okay. I am putting money away for it but I'm gonna wait till after I get a job at a salon. I need a steady income." You knew there was no rush. Chris didn't mind you there. He actually felt better having you there. Especially when he wasn't home. He knew someone taking care of his house and he knew you and his grandbabies were safe.
"Well when you are ready to buy a house I'll go with you to tour them!"
"Thanks dad. Okay I better get into work I'll call you later."
"Bye sweetie love you."
"Love you too bye dad." You hang up and climb out of your car. Luckily due to a shift change for the summer you're no longer working "rush hour" aka the time when everyone finishes work and school and come to Walmart to get last minute things for dinner. It's almost as bad as the weekends which you also got out of.
Except one, father's day weekend. You traded shifts with this older gentleman who you have worked with since you started here. He always spends father's day with his kids and grandkids. Normally he has it off and so do you but this year he got scheduled that day. Since your dad wasn't one you traded the day. Your grandma was going to babysit the twins for you so it should all work out.
———
One night and a terrible flight later and you're in Virginia. The boys were terrible during the flight. First the fought over the window seat, then wouldn't agree on a movie, you had to switch seats with Flynn cause they kept fighting. It was only an hour though luckily. If it was any longer you probably would've snapped. They've been at eachother's throats all day though. Which is odd for them. Sure they argue and all but those don't last for hours. You're hoping they're just hungry. It was nearing lunch time and they haven't eaten since breakfast. You guys ate about an hour and half before your flight so it would make sense if they are.
"Stop touching me." Flynn pushes his brother away. You sigh looking at the two of them.
"You were touching me!" Felix argues pushing back
"Boys." You warn.
"He started it!" Felix says frowning.
"I don't care who started it. Go sit down while I get us an Uber." They nod and hurrying to sit on a bench.
"Now we're in trouble because of you."
"Nuh-uh! It's your fault." You looked back at them and they shut up looking at the floor.
"See." Flynn mutters before he plays with the toy he brought with him on the plane.
"Shuddup."
"Okay are you boys hungry?" You walk over to them.
"Yeah!" Flynn nods. Felix shrugs.
"Okay sweets we'll go to lunch after we get checked in at the hotel!"
"Are we meeting Amelia today?" Felix asks you standing from his seat.
"Yeah we're going to dinner with them!" You telling taking his seat and letting him sit on your lap.
"Yay."
"Now boys. Why have you been at each other's throats all morning?" You ask them.
"He's annoying!"
"Well your a butthead."
"No! You are."
"Enough."
"Sorry mommy."
"Sorry."
You can tell that this is going to be a long day.

Buddie prompt: aggressively pro-buddie Helena and Ramon Diaz, who are ecstatic when Eddie tells them he's dating, and then utterly befuddled when he introduces Ana. But they decide to bite their tongues about it (Buck, their future son in law, has talked to them about respecting Eddie's decisions, however dumb, after all), until Ana (unwittingly? Innocently? No matter) makes a comment about Buck, and then all bets are off.
Hope this inspires you!
Helena is so relieved that Eddie finally feels comfortable enough to come out to them, that she could cry. She feels awful that it took her so long to realize it.
It had been on Eddie’s last visit to Texas, when he and his crew had been fighting wildfires, that Ramon--her dense as can be when it comes to matters of the heart husband of all people--had noticed that their son was in love.
Helena still remembers saying goodbye to her son and his two teammates, remembers Ramon closing the door, waiting exactly all of five seconds before turning to her and saying, “I’m happy for him. He’s so stubborn, I didn’t know if he’d ever let himself get that close to someone again.”
And Helena had been confused at first, and then even chuckled when Ramon had explained calmly that clearly their son was dating his coworker Buck, until she’d stopped to really give it a moment’s thought. It had hit her all at once, how obvious those two were, and she couldn’t help but wonder how long it had been since they’d started dating and why Eddie hadn’t said anything yet.
She’s seen the photos on Instagram, Helena thinks, as their plane lands. Buck smiling next to her grandbaby after helping her son build him a skateboard he could safely ride in the park. Buck standing shoulder to shoulder with Eddie behind Tia and Christopher in that Christmas photo at the station. The selfie Eddie posted of him and Buck with the giant cast still on his leg the day of the ceremony for when he was no longer a probationary firefighter with the 118.
Really, she should’ve figured it out months ago.
When Eddie had called and told her he’d started dating again and that the next time they came to visit he’d make an introduction Helena had been thrilled!
Ramon drives them from the airport to their son’s place in their rental and Helena rambles on about how she hopes Buck isn’t too nervous to see them again, now that the cat’s out of the bag.
When they arrive Eddie greets them at the door with a big hug and ushers his parents inside and Helena is so ready to step into the living room and welcome Buck into the family with open arms, to show her son that there was nothing to be afraid of, that they love him and nothing in the world would change that--
Only to be met with....not Buck?
“Oh,” Helena stops dead in her tracks and Ramon stands beside her looking about as confused as she feels. “Hello.” she smiles politely enough.
The woman sitting next to Christopher on the couch stands up and she’s absolutely stunning, her curls bouncing on her shoulders when she stands up to exchange hello’s. “It’s so nice to meet you both. My name is Ana.”
The rest of the afternoon goes by just fine, but Eddie can tell something is amiss the entire time, though he does a good job of hiding it from Ana, who’s her usual charming self through out lunch.
She has to take a work call at some point and excuses herself to another room and that’s when Eddie turns to his parents and half-whispers. “Ok, I know those looks. What’s wrong?”
Helena shakes her head, feigning ignorance. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Eddie sighs, rolling his eyes. “Seriously, what is it? Ana is perfect. She’s incredibly smart, she’s funny, she’s got a great job, good head on her shoulders, and Christopher loves her--so again, I ask, what’s wrong?”
Ramon follows his wife’s lead. “Mijo, really, it’s nothing. She’s great. We’re happy for you. I think we’re just a little tired from the flight, that’s all.”
Eddie narrows his eyes slightly but decides there isn’t much sleuthing that can be done at the moment, so all he can do is take them at their word for now. “Fine, if you say so.”
They’re in the middle of watching Nemo when Buck's name comes up.
"When the tsunami happened Buck and I sang 'just keep swimming' like Dory." Christopher grins up at his dad and Eddie ruffles the curls on his head playfully. It helps Christopher to be able to openly talk about what he went through that day, the good and the bad.
"You never told me Buck was there that day." Ana comments off handedly.
Eddie nods, "Huh, I thought I mentioned it? Buck took him to the pier that morning."
"It was scary but Buck saved me." Christopher tells his grandma, who reaches across the couch to squeeze his arm. Helena had been horrified to hear what had happened at the time; it still gives her anxiety just thinking about it.
"That's right." She says softly.
"I thought some woman you didn't know carried him to one of the tents, and that's how you two were reunited, no?" Ana asks.
"Yeah, but before that, during the initial impact Buck was with Christopher, he managed to get him up to this firetruck in the middle of everything. It was after he dove back into the water to save someone that a second wave came and swept Christopher right off and they got separated from there." Eddie recalls solemnly.
There had been blood running down the dirty wet bandage on his arm, he'd been soaked to the bone, exhausted and barely standing upright. It wasn't until Christopher had been found that Buck had allowed himself to collapse.
"Oh..." Ana frowns.
Ramon puts a hand over his heart and sighs. "It's a miracle, really."
Ana doesn't mean to say it outloud, but the words comes tumbling out of her mouth without warning. "And you're still friends with him?"
Eddie blinks. "What?"
"I'm sorry, really, it's just--I don't understand." Ana rubs her shoulder self consciously, fully aware of the fact that everyone is looking at her. "Look, Edmundo, you nearly bit my head off when Christopher got a skinned knee under my watch but you're still best friends with the man who lost your son for God only knows how long? It doesn't make any sense to me."
Ana knows how overprotective Eddie is of his son, and in fact, that's one of the reasons she likes him so much; she admires that about him and this? It doesn't track with the man she knows.
Helena wants to open her mouth and she say something in defense of Buck--he's a good man, after all. But she knows better than to get between a couple in an argument, especially given how bias she is towards her future son in law...
Instead, she clears her throat and looks at Christopher, "Honey, how about you help me and Grandpa unpack? I bought a lot of fun things from Texas for you."
Christopher doesn't want to go. His Dad looks upset. Ana looks upset. He wants to stay and help. If Ana met Buck she would understand, Christopher's sure of it. But his grandparents are already leading him down the hall and to the guest room.
Christopher hangs out with his grandparents for a few minutes before fibbing and telling them he needs to use the bathroom. They both offer to help him but he insists that he can do it himself, promising to call out if he needs them.
He sneaks the home phone into the bathroom with him and dials a number he knows by heart at this point. He waits a couple of rings before the call connects.
"Hey, what's up?" Buck's voice comes through the other end. He sounds distracted.
"Bucky? Can you come get me?" He whispers into the phone.
He hears a small commotion and then a stifled 'ow!' and then: "Chris? Are you ok? You're home, right? What's wrong? Where's Eddie?"
"I'm home. I'm ok. But--" there's a knock on the door and it startles Christopher into accidentally hanging up the phone before he can explain the situation in it's entirety.
"It was a tsunami." Eddie sighs, "It wouldn't be fair to hold something like that over his head. And look, you weren't there. You didn't see the look on his face, you don't know how many hours he spent crying out Christopher's name at the top of his lungs, injured and looking nonstop through the rubble for him--"
"Yeah, which he wouldn't have had to do if he hadn't lost him in the first place. It sounds like he was too busy playing hero for strangers to watch your son." Ana folds her arms across her chest. "I don't want to fight. Especially not with your parents here. Honestly, I'm just confused? We don't have to talk about this right now. I can go. I just want to apologize to your parents and Christopher first, before I leave, for," she sighs, embarrassed, "well, for causing a scene. This is not the way I'd pictured meeting your parents."
"You know, if you just met Buck I really think you would--"
A cacophony of knocks at the door make the both of them jump. Ana looks at Eddie. "Were you expecting anyone else?"
"Christopher!? Christopher I'm here, open up!"
Eddie gapes. "...Buck?"
"Did you...call him over?" Ana didn't even see him reach for his phone.
"What? No, of course not." Eddie starts towards the door--the knocking has gotten so boisterous he's pretty sure Buck's about to break down his door--but Ana beats him to it.
At this point Eddie's parents and Christopher are in the hallway wondering what all that racket is.
Ana lets the door swing open, and if she's being entirely honest she's not sure what she's planning on saying to the man who's essentially at the center of her first real argument with her boyfriend, but whatever it was, it goes up in smoke when she takes in the sight of him.
Buck is taller than she'd pictured but that's not what's got her speechless.
He's standing at the doorway, chest heaving, clearly having rushed out of his house, where he was very obviously in the middle of shaving, if the shaving cream still smeared on a third of his face is any indication. He's in sweatpants and a white undershirt that's got little drops of blood on the front from where he must have cut himself while shaving. There's a bright red cut running down the underside of his chin.
"Um." Ana can't do much except stare, wide eyed.
Buck blinks at her, "Uh...Ana?" He suddenly realizes all the people in the house behind her are looking at him in a kind of stupor.
She nods slowly. "Buck?"
Buck nods sheepishly, "Uh... So, I am clearly interrupting something here."
"You came!" Christopher moves past all of the adults in the corridor and throws himself at Buck's legs.
Buck lifts the kid up easily enough, crutches and all, "Yeah, about that," he gently pinches his cheek, eliciting a giggle out of Christopher, "What was that phone call all about? You nearly gave me a heart attack, bud."
Eddie groans. "Christopher, did you call Buck to come all the way over here in the middle of the day?" He walks over and uses the cuff of his shirt sleeve to wipe away the rest of the shaving cream on the side of Buck's face. The look on his face is fond as he does so. "What did this little menace say to get you over here in such a rush?"
Christopher pouts. "I just told him to come get me. I thought if Miss Ana met my Bucky she'd know how come you're still best friends." He grips at Buck's t shirt tightly. "You can't stop being friends, Dad. I love Buck. He's my friend too."
Buck frowns. "Umm..."
Eddie gives him an apologetic look. "Sorry, it's not--it's complicated. I promise to explain everything later. Right now isn't really a great time--"
Ana interrupts hesitantly. "Actually, now is probably good. I need to get home soon, it's getting pretty late, so I should get going." She turns to Helena and Ramon. "It was very nice to meet you both." She scoohches past Buck and Christopher and practically sprints to where she parked her car, aware of the fact that Eddie is calling out her name and only half a step behind her.
It's not until they're several blocks down the street that she swivels around and he nearly topples into her in his haste. "Ana, please, I don't want you to leave like this. I really didn't call him over." He reaches into his back pocket and shows her his phone. "See?"
Ana takes the phone and presses her lips together thinly. "He called you like twenty times on his way over."
Eddie frowns. His phone must have been on silent. It's no wonder Buck rushed over like he did. "He was just worried about Christopher--"
Ana sighs resignedly. "No, I know. It's obvious, how much your best friend cares about your son. I can see why he's still in your life. And I think I can also see why that means you don't really have any room for me in it..."
Eddie shakes his head. "What? Why would you say that?"
Ana looks him in the eye, intent as can be on reading him. Eddie had smiled so warmly, creating such an unintentionally intimate moment when all he'd done was swipe at the other mans face with his sleeve...
"You don't even know, do you?"
"Know what?"
"I think this is something you and Buck need to sort out yourselves. Goodbye Edmundo."
Eddie closes the door behind him as he steps inside, a little heartbroken and a lot confused.
There's noise coming from the kitchen and so Eddie follows it to the source. Ramon is telling Buck about how to sear the perfect steak by the stove while Helena and Christopher set the table.
"Is everything alright?" Helena asks, when she notices him by the entryway.
Eddie nods, lying when he says. "Yeah, all good Mom."
She gives him a knowing look but keeps her mouth shut. "Honey, take Buck here to your room, let him borrow one of your shirts. And maybe a razor?"
Buck chuckles shyly. "It's fine, really. I should probably get going too--"
Ramon shushes him. "Nonsense. Go, go, get changed and get your butt back into this kitchen. Scoot."
Eddie takes Buck by the shoulders and drags him to his room, where he finds a worn gray Henley for him. "Here."
Buck thanks him before stripping out of his white undershirt and throwing on the clean shirt.
Eddie plops himself down on his bed with a sigh. "Hey, I'm sorry about all this mess. And on your one day off, too."
Buck sits down beside him, bumping their shoulders together. "I don't really know what's going on but, are you doing ok?"
"I don't know," Eddie makes a face. "I think I got broken up with today."
Buck cringes. "Shit, I'm sorry, what happened?"
That's a good question. Eddie ponders that a moment. Ana had said it herself: she understood perfectly why Eddie didn't blame Buck for what happened during the tsunami and she had seen first hand how much Buck cares for Christopher for herself today.
So, why?
"She said that there wasn't any room for her in my life?" Eddie scratches the back of his head. "Maybe I'm just not cut out for this dating stuff anymore."
"Aw, c'mon man," Buck pats him on the back. "You fall off the bike you gotta get right back on." He turns his body all the way around so that he's facing Eddie fully. "Dude, you're a catch. You're a handsome, badass firefighter, you've got the best kid, and hey--you got me." Buck grins toothily.
Eddie rolls his eyes, though he can't help but smile. "So what I'm hearing here is that I'm stuck with you?"
"Oh yeah, for sure." Buck laughs.
Eddie leans back on his arms and looks up at his best friend, pensive. "Promise?"
Buck extends his pinky and wiggles it in front of Eddie, who smiles as he wraps his pinky around Buck's. "Promise."

“Where have the two of you been?” Lily asked, coming down the stairs as Sy and her grandfather came out of his study.
“Just having a chat.” Sy smiled up at her.
“Lily, I have something I need to say to you.” Davis said, looking up at his granddaughter.
“Yeah, you know what, I have something I need to say to you too.” Lily replied, planting her hands on her hips.
“Oh, lord.” Sy mumbled under his breath, knowing the look of this stance, and cleared his throat.
“All right.” Davis nodded, biting his lip. “You can go first, then.” He told her, motioning with his hand.
“Good.” Lily nodded back. “I don't appreciate the way you've been treating me since we arrived this morning. I understand that I hurt you by running off like I did, but Sy is right. I didn't have to tell you I was going or why I was going.” She told him, firmly. “I know that you were hurt and worried about me, because of the past trauma of what happened with my parents and my birth, but this and we-” She motioned between herself and Sy.
“Are not my parents and that situation, and you need not to treat it like it is.”
Davis bit his lip and looked at the dark and scuffed wood of the hallway floor, trying to hold back the smile that wanted to pull across his lips. Lily's fire reminded him so much of himself, and in a way, of his Daisy.
“You're right, Lily.” He finally spoke, looking up at her, taking a deep breath.
“I have been a down right jerk to you and Austin, and I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me for it. I love you so very much, Lily. You are my granddaughter. You are the only thing of my precious daughter I have left and I don't want to lose that, or you. Let alone the beautiful great-grandbaby you have growing inside of you.”
Lily pressed her lips together, her bottom one quivering as her eyes shined with building tears. “I do forgive you.” She blubbered, sniffling at him.
Davis opened his arms to her and Lily rushed into them, colliding with his chest. He smiled and squeezed his arms around her, burying his face in her hair, trying to hold back his own tears. Sy stood beside them, grinning that the two of them had reconciled their differences and became close again, truly hoping that it remained that way.
“Dave?”
Letting out a disappointed huff, he let Lily go and turned towards the sound of his name, finding one of his work hands standing in the open doorway. “What is it?” He asked, lifting a brow at him.
“Mac thinks he found a way to save the York tree.” The hand replied, sheepish eyes darting between the three of them.
Davis looked down at Lily, a tinge of sadness in his eyes.
“I'll see you at dinner.” Lily told him, giving his hand a squeeze and gave him a reassuring look.
He smiled at her, kissing her temple, then followed his worker out the door. Lily turned to Sy and wrapped her arms around his waist, sighed into his chest, a mile-wide smile on her face as she thought about the good vibe she had after what had just transpired with her grandfather. Sy smiled and hugged her back, rubbing his palms up and down her back and resting his chin on top of her head, content and happy.
“Thank you.” She said as they entered her bedroom.
“For what?” He frowned, sitting down on her bed.
“All of this probably wouldn't have happened, if it wasn't for you.” She told him, motioning around her room. “I still would have been cowering at the house in Celina. Too afraid of my own shadow, let alone the outside world. You've given me strength and hope again.” She stood in front of him and cupped his face in her hands, tilting his head back to look up at her.
“Thank you, Austin Syverson.” She whispered, kissing him, softly.
Sy wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his lap, nuzzling his face into her neck. “It was all you, Angel.” He cooed, his breath warm against her skin. “I just drove you here.” He told her, rubbing his nose against the spot just below her ear.
Lily narrowed her eyes. “You and my grandfather talked about me, didn't you?” She asked, connecting the dots.
“Whatever gave you that idea, sweet lips?” He asked, grinning into her jaw.
“The two of you holed up in his office for forty-five minutes.”
“Oh now, darling.” Sy chuckled, pressing his lips to her jawbone. “My dearest, sweetest, love.”
“Wyatt.”
“Listen to that tone.” Sy exclaimed, rocking back and looking at her. “That's the tone. You sound like such a mama already.” He grinned at her, licking his lips.
“It's so hot.”
“You're turned on by that?”
“Watching your tummy steadily round out with my babe inside of you; knowing my seed filled you like a water balloon.” His smirk turned into something far more sultry as he stared her clothed belly, like he was entranced by a snake charmer. “Thinking about having kids with you, about our kids and you being pregnant with them, is just so fucking sexy and alluring to me.”
“Lord, oh lordy.” Lily chuckled, shaking her head at him.
“I've always wanted a lot of kids.” He blurted out, semi-coming out of his trance. “I know what it's like to be an only child, and it sucks.”
“I know what it feels like too.” Lily agreed, biting her lip. “But, I never thought about having kids. I never thought I'd have kids.”
Sy frowned at her. “Why?”
“Jak doesn't like kids.” She mumbled, glancing down at her lap.
“Ah.” He nodded, understanding. “I love kids.” He smiled at her, softly.
“How many do you want?” Lily asked, tilting her head at him.
“Let's see how many the good Lord gives us.” He replied, gently kissing the corner of her mouth. “There's no rush.” He whispered, resting his chin on her shoulder and closed his eyes, enjoying a quiet moment with her, before they were called down to a dinner of Lily's favorite honey-lemon glazed salmon and asparagus.
“They're sleeping in the same room?” Davis asked, watching Lily and Sy go into her room, after they all said good night to each other.
“Davis, they already have a little one on the way. What are they going to do, make a second one on top of it?” Violet chuckled, shaking her head at her husband, then rolled into their master bedroom.
Sy stepped out onto the front pouch with a cup of coffee in hand, a grin instantly touching his face as he saw Lily on the lawn with Aika. She was wearing a knee length, cotton sundress with a floral design that accentuated her baby bump, the skirt billowing around her thighs in the warm morning breeze, ruffling her shoulder length hair and carrying her laughter back to him on the porch as her and the German Shepard played around on the lush green grass together. He cradled his cup in both hands and leaned on the porch railing to continue watching.
“You watch her, like you're watching through the gates of heaven.” Violet's voice said behind him.
“That's because I am.” Sy replied, not moving or looking away from Lily. “She's my slice of heaven on earth.” He said, eyes brightening as Lily turned and noticed him, smiling at him, and smiled back at her.
“Penny for your thoughts, Bear?” Lily asked, coming up to the porch with Aika.
“A penny is too poor for the thoughts I'm having, Angel.” He replied, grinning at her and pushing off the porch railing.
“I'm going to take my nap.” She said, standing beside him an intense exhaustion washing over her.
“All right.” Sy nodded, brushing the back of his knuckles across her cheek, before leaning in to gently kiss her. “I'll come lay with you.” He whispered, following her inside and upstairs to her room, setting his coffee cup on the table in her room, toed out of his boots and crawled into bed with her; Aika jumping onto the foot of the bed with them.
“Hm, Austin.” Lily whimpered, wiggling, as his hand found its way to her breast and cupped it in his palm, gently squeezing it.
“Does it hurt?” He asked, picking up his head to look down at her, concerned.
“No.” She sighed back, brow ceased. “But, you've been awfully attached to them lately.”
“They're bigger.” He grinned, laying his head back down.
“I'm pregnant with your kid.” She retorted with a snort. “They're prepping to start lactating, so I can start breastfeeding that caveman sized appetite they're going to no doubt have.”
“Both of us.”
“Uh-oh no!” Lily hooted, shaking her head and rolling over onto her back to look at his face. “You are not!”
“Why not?” Sy grinned at her, devilishly licking his lips. “Milk's good for you. Especially breast milk.”
Lily slapped both of her palms to her face, grinning and blushing wildly. “You are so weird.” She giggled, shyly.
“Am I weird, or are you just a sweet sheltered, little, home-schooled girl?” Sy teased back, pressing his hand to her thigh.
Lily looked at him, eyes holding a message that told him she wasn't as amused by his statement as she was, causing Sy to freeze his hand from it's adventure up inside her skirt.
“I'm sorry, babe.” He whispered, biting his lip. “That was too far and not what I meant.” He sighed, kissing her cheek. “I'll let you sleep.” He said, wrapping her up in his arms, feeling like a complete idiot.
But, once Lily was asleep he got up, tiptoeing around the room, before stepping out.
“Is everything all right, Austin?” Violet asked, as she encountered him in the hallway, pulling on his jacket and holding his truck keys.
“Yeah, I just need to go into town.” He replied, giving her a smile and headed out to the truck.
Driving into town, Sy found their store and ran inside, finding everything inside that he had come for, hoping that when Lily woke up from her nap that it would help cheer her up and show her that he was sorry for making such a narrow-minded and dumb-ass comment about how she was raised. He was driving back to the Warren's, when he was stopped at a red light and something caught the attention of his peripheral vision. He stared at it so long, he missed the light changing and the cars behind him started honking and screaming out their windows at him.
“Fuck.” He snapped, stepping on the gas and spinning the steering wheel sharply into a U-Turn, an illegal one at that, but Sy didn't care, as he pulled into the parking lot of the store that had absorbed his attention.
“Sy?” Lily whimpered, sitting up in bed, after not feeling the warmth of his body behind her, and got out of bed in search of him. “Austin.” She called, peeking into the bathroom, but found nothing, before she went downstairs.
“Oh, miss. I was told to give this to you, when you woke up.” the servant said, handing her a note.
“Thanks, Mina.” She replied, taking the note and unfolding it, recognizing Sy's handwriting.
Lily, meet me under your favorite apple tree. - Sy.
“How does he know my favorite apple tree?” Lily frowned at the note, shaking her head, but tucked the note away and went outside.
Lily went out into the northwest orchard of the farm, to where her favorite apple tree was deep in the center of that grove of trees. She remembered going out there often as a girl, especially on cool summer nights, to read by the glow of fireflies or the moon, or if neither of them were out, she would sneak an old oil lamp out of the work barn and take it out to the tree, and read by.
She wondered what Sy wanted with it.
When she was a few yards away from the tree, she noticed a difference amongst the fallen apples and leaves that blanketed the ground, there were oddly shaped, cherry-red leaves. She stopped and examined them, when she realized they weren't leaves at all. They were rose petals. Leading up to her apple tree, that she continued to approach, finding Sy standing beneath it.
“What is this, Austin?” She asked, shaking her head, and motioning to the blue gingham picnic blanket he had laid under the apple tree; the gold plaque staked among its roots told the reader it was a Rall's Genet apple tree, the first planted on the Warren farm, in 1785, by Ambrose Cecil Warren.
“I was an ass.” Sy replied, taking a deep breath and biting his lip. “When you were falling asleep for your nap, and it wasn't right of me, or nice of me, to say what I said to you. I'm so sorry I said it.”
“So, this is my peace offering.” He told her, motioning to the items on the blanket.
Lily chuckled, stepping closer, and seeing her favorite Ben and Jerry's, Brownie Batter Core ice cream, a bag of pretzels, Cherry Punch, Sweet Tart ropes and two bottles of Voss water. “You really didn't have too.” She said, looking up at him, touched at his attempt anyway.
“You know that?”
“Be it as it may, I still want to make it up to you.” He replied, taking her hand and helped her sit down on the blanket, then joined her. “The ice cream might be a little melted. But, I know how much you love it that way.” He chuckled, pulling off the lid to the pint sized container.
“You know me so well.” Lily giggled, taking the white plastic spoon and the pint of ice cream from him. “So, how did you find out this was my tree?” She asked, spooning a mouthful of ice cream into her mouth.
“I remember you telling me about a specific tree on the property.” Sy replied, picking up a bag of shelled, sunflower seeds that he loved to snack on. “I also asked your grandmother.” He grinned, slyly.
“Smooth, Syverson. Smooth.” She chuckled, shaking her head at him.
It was serene and lazy as they sat on the blanket, enjoying their treats.
But, Lily put the lid back on her half-eaten ice cream and turned, laying back to put her head in Sy's lap, closing her eyes to the sound of the breeze rustling through the grass and tree branches over their heads, the chirp of grasshoppers and crickets, the birds singing and twittering, as they nested or flew and their wings fluttered through the warm and humid air. She sighed and smiled softly, her hand resting on her belly. Sy looked down at her and smiled too, ghosting his fingers through her bangs and against her forehead, he loved the soft and peaceful expression on her face and how relaxed her body was, obviously enjoying the tranquility around them, as was he.
He tipped his head back, seeing the little Blue Jay sitting on the branch above them, singing its little heart out and smiled at it, then glanced back down at Lily, his smile growing a little brighter. Lily stirred, not realizing she had dozed off a little bit, until she had felt Sy touch the hand she had on her belly, but he just smiled at her, a strange sparkle in his blue eyes.
“I love you, Lily.” He whispered to her, stroking the top of her hand. “I've loved you for such a very long time.” He told her, biting the corner of his lip “My sweet Angel.”
He grinned, brushing his finger down the bridge of her nose and over her lips, tracing her brows and gently touching her cheek. “There's no one in the world I want to be with. No one I want to bear and battle the world with, other than you, Lily Ana.” He told her, stroking her hair, the tip of his finger following the shell of her ear.
“You've become the purest love of my life and my Battle Buddy.” He told her and curved his hand around hers, lifting it from her belly and to her face.
Lily's face grew slack, her mouth dropping open and her eyes wide as he showed her what was on her hand, what he had put on her finger. “Sy!” She snapped, sitting up. “Wyatt.” She gulped and licked her lips, shocked, and looked at him.
“Austin.” She whimpered, her voice cracking as she stared at the ring on her finger.
“Will you marry me, Lily Ana?” Sy asked her properly, fidgeting nervously, scared out of his wits that Lily would turn him down, and her no would be worse than a gunshot wound to the heart.
It had been an utter impulse that he had been sucked into the sight of that jewelry store on the way back after going to the store, for the ice cream and candy.
At first, he had only meant to look at the engagement rings, but as soon as he saw the one he had just slipped onto her finger, it was like someone had stepped into Sy's body, pointing it out to the jeweler and pulling out his bank card to pay for it; watching him put it in the black velvet box and hold it out to him was surreal. It felt heavy in his pocket as he walked back out to the truck, but not heavy with the regret that he had fallen into the impulse to buy the ring, but heavy with hope that he would find the courage to present it to Lily and she would say yes, heavy with worry that Lily would reject his proposal.
“Yes!” Lily answered a split second later.
“Really!” He snapped back, shocked, but completely delighted.
“Yes, Austin.” She laughed at him. “Yes, yes, yes! I will marry you, you silly Bear!”
“Oh, thank fuck.” Sy let out in a huff, catching her up in his arms. “I am so glad you said yes. I was afraid you would say no.” He said against her cheek.
Lily smiled into his neck. “I would never.” She chuckled, hugging her arms around him. “Not in a million years.” She whispered, kissing his cheek.
“I know it's not much.” He said, touching the round, one-fourth carat diamond setting with his thumb.
“It doesn't have to be, Sy.” She told him, shaking her head. “You are enough.”
Sy smiled at her, cupping the back of her head and pulled her into a deep and tender kiss. Lily melted into him, slowly shifting into his lap and gripping his shoulders, rubbing down on him. Sy smirked into their kiss, wrapping an arm around her waist and pressed them flush together.
“Lily.” He panted against her lips, his eyes dark and teasing.
“I need you so bad now.” She giggled, blushing and shy.
Sy's laugh rang out in the air, grinning. “Let's go back then.”
“I am not having sex in the same house my grandparents are in.” Lily protested, squeezing her knees to the outside of his hips. “That is a big double O negative, Captain Syverson.”
“Is there somewhere else we could go?”
“There's two places, the work barn and the garage, and both are busy this time of day.” She replied, pressing her lips to his throat, impatient and horny; a side effects of her pregnancy.
“All right then.” Sy chuckled.
He lifted her dress just enough to obstruct his access, then pulled open his belt and the button of his jeans, pushing down his zipper and lifted his hips enough to wiggle his jeans and boxers down his thighs to free his hardening cock.
“Your panties.” He huffed, annoyed that the thin material was in their way. “No!” He growled, as she started to push herself up onto her feet to slip her underwear off.
“We can't have sex with them on.” Lily groaned back, impatiently.
“We're not.” He scoffed, fingers curling around the band of her panties and with a loud rip, tore them off of her. “Problem solved, Princess.” He grinned at her, his face dark with desire.
Lily smirked back at him, rubbing against him and spreading her slick juices all over his manhood, making Sy's eyes roll in the back of his head, hands gripping her hips through the fabric of her sundress. Lily reached underneath the skirt of her dress and wrapped her fingers around the hot skin of his hard member, feeling the throb of the thick vein beneath it pulse against her fingers as she stroked him, thin beads of pre-cum coating his shaft and her fingers, making her grasp him firmer.
“Oh, Angel.” Sy panted, licking his lips and resting his head back against the rough bark of the ancient apple tree.
“Not bad for a girl that was sheltered and home-schooled, huh?” She huffed at him, swiping her thumb over the purplish tip of his head and brought it up to her mouth and licked off his juices.
Sy grinned at her though half lidded eyes. “Not at all, Angel. Not at all.” He cooed, then hissed when she wrapped her hand around him again and squeezed, rubbing his weeping tip against her dripping pussy.
“You're teasing me, Lily.”
“Am I?” She purred back, her voice deep and sultry, grinning at him.
“Is this you getting even with me?”
“It's possible.” Lily chuckled, just slipping his tip into her core for a moment, before pulling it out again.
“Oh, Lily Ana.” Sy laughed, his voice a little hoarse, sweat breaking out on his forehead. “You little minx.”
Lily laughed at him. “Coming from the man that would fuck me in any position and place he would, and probably thought he could, in.” She retorted, lifting a brow at him, finally letting his cock enter the canal of her core, sitting in his bare lap.
“All better, Bear?” She cooed at him, pressing her hands to his chest and leaned into him, kissing him.
“I feel like I've corrupted you.” He chuckled against her mouth, rubbing his palms up and down her back, letting her set whatever pace she wanted.
“It's possible.” She replied and gently rolled her hips, taking a deep breath and let it out in a soft moan.
Lily pressed her sweaty forehead against Sy's, wanting to be closer to him, needing to breathe the same air as him, one of her hands slipping behind his head, fingers carding through the short, damp curls at the nape of his neck. Sy held her eyes and bent his knees up a little bit, giving her a little bit of support and shifting his cock inside of her, making her grunt out a delicious moan.
“You always sound so sweet with my cock inside of you.” Sy cooed at her, brushing her wind swept hair out of her face and behind her ears. “My delicious little flower.”
Lily chuckled at him, smirking. “You're a sap.” She huffed, tightening her walls around him, causing him to growl deep in his throat. “You do feel so fucking good though, Bear.” She sighed, licking her lips and bouncing in his lap a little bit faster, while still keeping herself tight around him.
“Lily, I'm gonna come.” Sy grunted, gasping and panting.
He felt the tell-tale tingle in his sack and the pit of his stomach, the way his cock swelled and throbbed against her already taut walls, the wet sounds from their coupling adding to the music of crickets, grasshoppers and birds in the hum of hot and humid air blanketing them, sweat pouring off of them, making almost every inch of their clothing stick and cling to their drenched skin, soaking the fabric. Sy grabbed Lily's hips and thrust up into her, burying himself as deeply as either of their body's would allow him to, his body stiffening as he pumped ribbon after ribbon of hot come into her, the muscles of his stomach spasming with each load.
“Ah, Austin.” Lily cried out, slipping a hand underneath her dress to rub at her clit, giving herself that last bit of stimulation to come, squeezing down on Sy's cock even harder, making him grunt and growl, the muscles in his neck tensing and his face twisting as she milked even more out of him.
“Fuck!” He barked out, breathing between clenched teeth. “Lily!”
Recovering enough, Lily collapsed on top of Sy's chest, listening to his heart thunder in her ear and the soft wheeze to his breathing as it slowly calmed down. Sy sluggishly wrapped his heavy arms around her, turning his red and sweaty face into her damp hair, while Lily watched the diamond on the engagement ring sparkled in the sun, a soft and content smile on her face. So many things were happening that she had given up on; seeing her grandparents again, finding a good and reliable guy, getting married and starting a family. It might all be a bit out of sync, but Lily didn't care, it was still happening and it was happening with Sy.
“Lily?” Sy frowned, alarmed by the painful sounding whimper she suddenly let out and felt her stomach tighten. “What is it?” He asked, sitting up with her.
Lily didn't reply for a moment, instead she reached out and gently cupped his face in her hand, while taking a few deep breaths until the discomfort in her stomach passed. “It's fine, Bear.” She told him, stretching her back. “Just Braxton Hicks. It's perfectly normal at this point.” She sighed.
“Especially after sex.” She assured him, caressing his face with her thumb.
“You're sure?”
“I am.” She nodded, smiling at him. “It's if they last more than two minutes, that we need to worry. But, it was barely thirty seconds.”
Sy nodded at her, but he was only slightly pacified. “I should get you back inside. It's boiling out here.” He said, getting up and pulled her up onto her feet, Sy corrected his jeans, before collecting their picnic stuff, jamming her torn panties into his front pocket and headed back into the house with her.
“Where have the two of you been?” Davis asked as Lily and Sy entered the house.
“We had a little picnic in the orchard.” Lily smiled up at Sy. “Mr. Romantic that Sy is.” She teased him.
“Is that what I think is it?” Violet asked, rolling into the hallway.
Lily froze for a moment, feeling the slickness of her and Sy's love making slowly creeping down the inside of her thigh and felt her heart start to pound, fearing it had become noticeable to her grandmother. But relaxed, when Violet lifted a frail and bony finger, pointing at the ring on her hand instead.
“Uh..” Lily and Sy instantly blushed, grinning like a pair of caught teenagers. “Yeah, it is.”
“You proposed.” Violet grinned at Sy, elated.
“I did.” He smiled, wrapping an arm around Lily's waist, feeling gratified. “It seemed right.” He said, looking into Lily's eyes, softly.
“So, when are you officially tying the knot?” Violet asked, looking between them.
“I don't know.” Lily replied, her eyes still on Sy. “We haven't discussed that yet.”
“We'll get around to talking about it.” Sy nodding back at her. “But, I think, I'm game for a nap right now.”
“Oh, that does sound really good, now that you mention it.” Lily nodded, tired from the heat and their sex. “We should be up in time for dinner.” She said, smiling at her grandparents, then went upstairs with Sy.
“How about a cool shower first?” Sy suggested after they got back upstairs to their room, seeing Lily was still a little sweaty and red. “Wash this sweaty grim off of us and cool off before we nap.”
Lily felt her drying skin and the stickiness between her legs from their combined release. “I think that's a good idea.” She agreed, then followed him into the bathroom.
Sy pulled down the zipper in the back of her dress, then got undressed himself, turning on the shower and making sure it was cool, but not cold, before letting Lily step in first and following in behind her, watching the water wash over her for a few moment. He picked up the bottle of body wash from the shower basket, the scent of white peaches and cream filling the small space as he opened the bottle, moaning softly at the scent he'd become familiar with on her skin of late.
Lily chuckled. “Do I need to change body washes, when we get home, Bear?” She asked, as he started washing the sweaty grim off of her.
“Definitely.” He chuckled, letting her rinse off, then quickly washed himself, not above smelling like peaches too. “Do you have a preference?” Sy asked, after they had settled into bed for their nap.
“Preference for what?” Lily replied, returning to the surface of being awake.
“For what gender you want the baby to be?”
“No.” She shook her head. “But, I do want to continue one thing, if it's a girl.”
“All right.” He nodded. “What is it?”
“The name.” Lily told him. “My great-grandmother's name was Jasmine, my grandmother is Violet, and my mother's name was Daisy..”
“And yours is Lily.” Sy smiled against her shoulder. “All flower themed.”
“Mmhm.” She nodded, starting to tip back off to sleep. “If we have a girl, I want to give her a flower themed name, to continue the tradition.”
“I'm more than all right with that.” He told her, sweet on the idea. “If we have more kids and they're all girls, we'll have a whole flower garden running around the house.” He teased, lightheartedly.
Lily chuckled and snuggled back against him. “The house will smell wonderful.” She teased back, her voice just a faint murmur, before she finally dropped off.
“Is it really time for you to go?” Violet asked, clutching Lily's hands.
“Sadly, it is.” Lily nodded, gulping down a fresh wave of tears.
Lily and Sy had stayed with her grandparents for nearly a week, which wasn't enough for the three of them to catch up and patch five years of absence, but they all knew it was time. The couple had a life back in Celina, that's where they had started to plant their roots and where they wanted to raise their now expanding family.
“You promise to come back and visit?”
“Nothing can ever prevent that from happening again, Mee-Maw. You have my word.” Lily assured her, squatting down in front of her wheelchair.
“I want to meet my great-grandbaby.”
“That, for sure, is going to happen.” Lily chuckled, a couple of tears escaping. “I wouldn't let you miss that opportunity for anything in the world.” She sniffled, starting to lose the battle on her emotions.
“Vi.” Davis whispered, resting his hand on his wife's shoulder. “Lily has appointments she needs to make, so we can meet our sweet great-grandbaby.” He told her, giving Lily a soft smile, his own brown eyes shining with unshed tears.
“Call me, when you stop for the night, so we know you're safe.” Violet said, giving Lily and Sy a stern look.
Even though they had only known him for less than a week, Sy had become family to the Warrens. Violet had become very grandmotherly towards him, while Davis treated him almost like a son. The two men had really bonded over the fact Sy had been in the military, with Davis having served in the U.S Marine Corps during the Vietnam war, before being honorably discharged for a medical injury, at the rank of Master Sergeant. Sy had realized something as he and Lily packed up the truck that morning, he had driven to Virginia with her so shecould reconnect with her family, but in doing so, he had gained a family in more than just Lily, the baby and Aika. It wasn't what he had been looking for, it had all found him, the whole situation, from taking the contract to fix up Lily's place to the moment they were having with her grandparents.
With every aspect and event he found himself in with Lily, it only made him feel more like he belonged.
“You hear me, Austin?” Violet's voice cut through his thoughts.
“Yes, ma'am.” He nodded, smiling and biting his lip, feeling a hard lump of emotion in his throat. “I'll make sure of it.”
“Good.” She smiled at him, then held her arms out to him.
Sy smiled out even bigger and walked back up onto the porch, bending over and carefully closed his muscular arms around her thin body, hugging her gently. “It was good meeting you Ms. Violet.” He whispered into her ear.
“You too.” She whispered back. “And you take care of her and the baby.”
“On my life.” He replied, pulling back.
They winked at each other, chuckling and making Lily and Davis laugh as well. With their good-byes said and everything, including Aika, packed back into the truck, Lily and Sy got in too, waving until they lost sight of Violet and Davis. They weren't down the road very far, when Sy pulled off the side of the road and turned in his seat to face Lily.
“What?” She frowned back at him.
“You all right?” He asked, his eyes reading her.
“I'm fine.” She replied, but he could hear the thickness in her voice.
Sy turned and jerked open his door and moved around the truck and pulled open her door. “Lily.” He said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lily pressed her lips together for a moment, before taking a deep breath, her chin trembling as her tears crashed into her. Her seat belt wasn't off a moment, before she found herself in his arms and buried against his chest, sobbing into his Metallica t-shirt.
“You'll see them again, Angel.” He murmured into her hair, hands rubbing up and down her trembling back. “I promise, and you'll get to talk to them all the time. Mac even promised to teach them how to use Skype, so you guys can video call.” He told her, trying to soothe her pain and anxiety.
“We'll come back up after the baby's born, so they can meet.” He promised, cupping the back of her head and pressing his lips to her forehead, before wiping away her tears. “Okay?” He smiled at her, feeling the same anxious twist about leaving, but not even close in magnitude that Lily was.
“Okay.” She sniffled, rubbing at her eyes and collecting herself.
“Okay.” He nodded, but neither of them moved, but then Sy looked at her with a strange resolution. “Do you wanna get married?”
“What?” Lily squeaked, frowning at him. “You've already proposed to me, Austin.”
“That's not what I'm asking, Lily.” He replied, licking his lips, the sudden idea brewing inside of his mind. “Do you want to get married, right now?”
“Here?” She asked, looking around them. “In Virginia?”
“Yeah.” He nodded at her, his heart pounding as his adrenaline started to rush through his veins. “We can go back to your grandparents' place, because we'll need witnesses, then go into town and get married. We both know we don't want a massive wedding. I don't have any family I want, or even could, invite and...”
“My grandparents are the only family I have; other than you, Aika and the baby.” She finished his sentence, falling in sync with his thought process.
“So?”
Lily held his eyes for a split moment, then smiled softly at him, and nodded at him. “I think I like that idea, Austin.”
“All right.” He grinned back, kissing her, then ran back around to the driver's seat and hauled ass back to the farm.
“Is everything all right?” Davis asked, coming out of the house as he saw the truck flying up the driveway.
“Everything is fine and dandy.” Lily chuckled at him. “But, Austin and I need your and Mee-Maw's help with something.” She grinned, giggling, with a bubbly air of excited energy.
“What is it?”
Lily looked over at Sy, who grinned at her, then back to her grandfather. “We need two witnesses.” She said, the hint thick in her voice.
A smile instantly touched Davis's lips, understanding Lily's meaning and what she and Sy wanted from him and Violet. “We'll meet you at the Loudoun County courthouse.” He told them, feeling the giddy energy coming off of Lily and Sy infect him on the porch.
“I regret not having an actual wedding ring for you.” Sy commented as the two of them made their way downtown.
“I don't need one, Sy.” Lily told him, reaching out to take one of his hands off the steering wheel. “I told you, you are enough and the ring you already gave me is enough. I don't need anything more than that, Bear.” She said, threading their fingers together.
“Other than maybe...” She grinned at him.
Sy chuckled, bringing their hands up and kissed her fingers. “I'll get you a pretzel, Sweetness.” He grinned, shaking his head. “I feel like I should just buy a pretzel factory or something, the way you're going.” He teased her.
“That would be super nice.” Lily agreed, licking her lips. “Buy the property next door and set it up right there, with the production line ending right into the house.”
It was a good thing they stopped at a red light, because Sy lost it, laughing his ass off at the image of a conveyor belt of freshly baked pretzels coming in through one of the downstairs windows of the house with Lily seated in front of it, just power munching on them with her plump baby belly, happy as all hell. He still had tears in his eyes, after they parked in the county courthouse and were standing out front, waiting for Davis and Violet to show up.
“I'm glad you're loving it up.” Lily giggled at him.
Sy cupped Lily's face in his hands. “My little pretzel.”
“Oh good lord, Wyatt.” She laughed, gripping his wrists. “You're a mess.”
“You're going to marry this mess.” He grinned at her, pulling her closer to him and felt her rounding belly brush his abs.
“I am.” She nodded, smiling up at him. “I wouldn't have it any other way, with anyone else.”
“That's a relief.” Sy replied, feigning shock to know it.
“Lovebirds, no matter where the two of you are.” Violet's voice came as Davis pushed her towards them.
“When in love.” Lily replied, unashamed or moving away from Sy.
“Are we ready for this?” Davis asked, looking around at the group.
“I am.” Lily nodded, looking up at Sy.
“So am I.” Sy replied, smiling down at her.
“We are too.” Violet nodded.
“In we go then.” Davis said, and the small group went inside the courthouse.
“Here.” Lily said, slipping off her ring and handing it to Sy. “Just humor me.” She chuckled softly, when he lifted a brow at her in question.
“All right.” He nodded, slipping it into the front pocket of his jeans.
Going into the courthouse get a marriage license and giving the appropriate documentation they needed for it, then with the license filled out and official, they patiently waited for the couple ahead of them to have their moment getting married with the judge and all, before going into the little courtroom with the judge standing at the front, waiting for them in his official robe and a bible in his hand.
“Hello, I'm Judge Timothy Miller, I'll be marrying the two of you today.” He smiled at Lily and Sy.
“Sounds good to me.” Sy replied, nodding his head politely to the judge.
“Same.” Lily agreed, nervously licking her lips.
“Are these are your witnesses?” He asked, looking to Davis and Violet.
“Yes, sir. They're my grandparents.” Lily explained, smiling over her shoulder at them.
“That's lovely.” Judge Miller smiled at them all, plainly seeing the love everyone had for each other, especially Lily and Sy. “Shall we commence?” He asked, looking between the two of them.
“Yes, please.” They both nodded, feeling their nerves and jitters start to really increase.
“All right, I'll have the two of you face each other.” He said, motioning to space in front of him.
Lily and Sy stood before him, facing each other and holding hands, while staring at each other, Violet and Davis stood off to one side. Sy smiled at Lily, giving her trembling hands a squeeze with his, feeling his own hands shake. But, neither of them were going to back out, they honestly couldn't picture standing up there with anyone else.
They had found a home and a soulmate in each other.
“We are gathered here, on this fine day, to join Austin Wyatt Syverson and Lily Ana Moore together in the holy matrimony, that is marriage.” Judge Miller began speaking, regarding Lily and Sy in turns. “The bonds of marriage are untied with sacred love and the deepest respect, as should one spouse treat the other with that sacred love and respect.”
“Now, do we have rings?” He asked, looking at them with a lifted brow.
“Just hers.” Sy said, going into his pocket and pulling it out.
“All right, put it on her finger and repeat after me.” Judge Miller instructed him.
Sy slipped the ring back onto Lily's finger. “I, Austin Wyatt Syverson, take you, Lily Ana Moore, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forth, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; until death do us part.”
“Same with you.” The Judge said to Lily, nodding his head at her.
“I, Lily Ana Moore, take you, Austin Wyatt Syverson, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forth, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; until death do us part.” She repeated after him, letting out a relieved breath that she hadn't stumbled and missed any of it up.
“It is my pleasure and by the power vested in me, by the power of Loudoun County, in the state of Virginia, to pronounce you, man and wife.” Judge Miller grinned at them.
“Mr. Syverson, you may kiss your bride, Mrs. Syverson.”
“With pleasure.” Sy grinned with immense pride, pulling Lily against him and kissed her, intensely. “I never, in a million years, thought I would ever hear that.”
“What?” Lily asked, walking out of the courthouse with him, hand in hand.
“Mrs. Syverson.”
“I have to agree with you.” She replied, pressing her shoulder against his arm. “I always thought I'd be a Ms. for the rest of my life.”
“I guess you two are really back to Texas now?” Davis asked, coming up behind them with Violet.
“Yeah.” Sy nodded, looking at Lily. “Lily has a fourteen week baby appointment we can't miss.” He explained to them.
“But, we'll come back, when the baby is born so you guys can meet them.” Lily promised them, resting her hand on her belly.
“You better come back here with my great-grandbaby, or you'll have hell to deal with, Missy.” Violet threatened, wagging a bony finger at her, but the playful smirk on her face gave it away.
“You have my word, Mee-Maw.” Lily chuckled, bending over to kiss her on the cheek. “I wouldn't have it any other way. Mama isn't here to meet them, so I have to make sure you do.” She said, straightening up, a sad pang in her chest at knowing her own mother would never meet her grand-baby.
The group was somber for a moment as the fact settled on them, before they parted ways once again. But, Sy and Lily didn't hit the road as soon as they left the courthouse either.
“Where are we going, Bear?” She asked him, confused.
“Well, I promised you a pretzel, for one.” He chuckled at her. “And two, it doesn't seem right.” He said, wiggling the fingers of his left hand.
So, Sy got Lily the pretzel he had promised her, then they stopped off at the jeweler's he had bought her engagement, now wedding ring at, and after browsing for several moments, Lily stopped beside a glass display case, spotting a ring inside of it and pointed at it.
“If that doesn't scream Austin Syverson, then my name isn't Lily Syverson.” She said, staring at it wide eyed.
Sy laughed and crossed over to her, looking into the case at the ring she was pointing at and felt himself freeze, as it hit him, like seeing hers had. “I'm in total agreement with you. Both on the ring and your name.” He said, seeing the tungsten carbide ring.
“That's the one.” He told the jeweler, nodding his head at the ring.
“Fits like a glove.” Lily said, watching Sy slip it onto his left ring finger.
“Or in this case, a wedding ring.” He chuckled at her, turning it around his finger.
“Neither of us expected this, when we were driving out here.” She said, going back out to the car with him.
“Actually, I had been considering proposing to you for a while.” Sy confessed, finally getting them onto the highway back home to Celina. “Even before we found out about the baby.”
Lily twisted in her seat to face him, face slack in surprise. “Seriously!”
“Yep.” He nodded, grinning. “You're home to me, Lily. You've been a home to me for such a long time, before we slept together that night in the barn and everything.” He licked his lips and shifted in his seat. “I thought, maybe, even if we didn't have that sort of connection, we could still at least take care of each other and keep each other—company.” He told her, drumming on the steering wheel with his thumbs.
“I have a lot of baggage with my time in the military and people have a lot of trouble dealing with that and rarely stick around because of it. I honestly expected you to run me off that day on the porch, when I nearly took your head off.” He explained, babbling at this point.
“But you didn't. Even then, I expected you to tiptoe or be afraid of me.”
“But, I'm not afraid of you, Austin. I have no reason to be afraid of you or tiptoe around you.” Lily told him, hurt that he thought she would get rid of him or be scared of him, because of the things he can't really control. “Even when I first saw you, I wasn't afraid of you. You've never given me a reason to be. I sure as hell would never blame you for having PTSD for being in multiple war zones, as many times and as long as you had been.”
“I admit, if you ever did give me a reason to believe you'd hurt me, I would have told you to piss off.” She told him, honestly.
“I would have left long before that, if I thought I would do something to hurt you.” He said, looking over at her, the fear that he would do something, was evident in his eyes.
“I know that.” She whispered. “But, you're not, Austin. Not then. Not now. Not ever, and I'm not going anywhere either. I'm staying right with you, I'll always be there for you, especially in those moments.” She promised him, leaning over and kissing him on the cheek.
“We're stuck together.”
“Now and forever.” Sy grinned, happy and relieved.
“Plus a day.” Lily giggled, laying her head on his shoulder.
“I want to make a tradition of our own.” Sy said, breaking the quiet of the truck. “If we have a boy.”
They were only a few hours from being back home in Celina and felt the peacefulness of being so close to their own place again, their own space and bed.
“Okay.” Lily replied, settling her eyes on him.
“So, the girls on your mother's side of the family were named after flowers, right?”
“Correct.” She nodded back.
“Well, I was named Austin, because my parents met in Austin.”
“Oh, don't tell me you want to name our potential son, Celina.” Lily giggled, teasing him.
“Gods, no.” Sy laughed back, shaking his head at her. “But, I do want to name any would-be sons after cities. Like, Dallas.” He explained to her.
“Austin Jr.” Lily chuckled back. “But, I like that idea.”
“Can I make one more suggestion?” He inquired, lifting a brow at her.
“Of course.”
“If we do have a daughter, I know we want to give her a flower themed first name, but can I pick her middle name?”
“Of course, do you have one in mind?” Lily asked, tilting her head at him.
“I do.” Sy nodded at her, his blue eyes getting a far off look.
“What is it?”
“Let's find out, if it's a girl first.” He said, shaking his head and clearing his vision. “Then, I'll tell you.”
“Okay, keeper of secrets.” She chuckled.
“Son of a—“
Lily paused as she carried the laundry basket up the stairs, hearing Sy's muffled curse from the guest room, turned nursery.
“What happened to good ol' fashioned, pure American made furniture?” He grumbled around his smarting thumb.
Chuckling and setting the basket down, Lily went down to the nursery. “Is that a grizzly Bear I'm hearing?” She asked, her voice light and playful as she smiled at him.
“Why did we have to buy the baby stuff from IKEA?” He asked, scowling at the mostly put together changing table.
“Because, their baby stuff is adorable.” She giggled at him, moving over to him, to check his smashed appendage.
Sy huffed, but let her take his hand in hers, watching her quietly and gently fuss over his swollen and multi-colored thumb. “If you like them, then it doesn't matter.” He sighed, frowning at the other unboxed baby furniture that was in the room with them.
“I do like them.” Lily nodded, assured he hadn't done any real damage to his hand. “That's why I got them. It goes with our neutral theme, since we don't know the baby's sex yet.” She told him, kissing his thumb, with a mischievous smile.
“Then, I'll get it done.” He replied, cupping her face and pulled her in, kissing her gently.
“Bob the Builder can eat his heart out.” She chuckled, kissing him back. “He's got nothing on Captain Syverson.” She proclaimed proudly, before standing back up and retrieving her laundry basket, to put away the clean clothes she'd spent all morning washing, in the master bedroom.
When she finished putting the clothes away, Lily paused in the middle of the bedroom, tapping her foot and chewing on her bottom lip as a sudden idea brewed inside of her mind. It wasn't a completely new idea, but the evolution of it was. Turning the upper half of her body towards the open bedroom door, listening to the bumps and curses coming from the nursery down the hall.
“Sy!” She called out to him, then winced hearing a crash and another curse.
“Yeah, babe?” He answered, sighing.
“You wanna distraction?” She asked, biting the corner of her lip and feeling bad.
Sy appeared in the nursery doorway, his bruised fingers pressed to his chest. “I would love one, Angel.” He replied, giving her a grateful, but pained expression. “What do you have in mind?”
Lily stepped into their closet for a moment, before coming back out and holding up her professional digital camera, a Panasonic Lumix, for him to see, and Sy frowned at her, head tilting in question.
“Baby book.” She smiled at him.
“What's that gotta do with me?” He asked, blinking at her.
“You silly Bear.” Lily giggled at him. “You've gotta be in the book too! You are the Daddy.”
“Okay.” Sy nodded, biting his lip and glancing around. “What do you want me to do?”
“Let's go downstairs.” She said, taking her camera and headed downstairs with Sy following after her. “This'll be a good place.” She decided, stopping in the dining room, where there was a clear wall by the bay window, where there was a lot of light.
Lily paused for a moment, then disappeared into the kitchen, coming back with a little whiteboard she would write little notes on, doctor's appointments, deadlines or anything else she and Sy needed to remember. Sy watched her bustle about, putting her idea into motion. Erasing the writing on the whiteboard, Lily wrote fourteen weeks on it, then carefully hung it up on the wall, then planted her hands on her hips and left the room again, making Sy chuckle at her.
“Perfectionist.” He teased, when she came back, with a short tripod.
“To the end.” She giggled back, setting the tripod up on the dining table and connected the camera to it. “All right, now.” She approached Sy, resting her hands on him and turned him sideways.
“Now, don't move.”
“As you wish, Angel.” Sy grinned, planting his feet in place.
“That's a good Bear.” She grinned back, patting him on the chest, then removed her shirt.
“Well, ya gotta see my tummy.” Lily giggled at him at his lifted brow.
“Well, if you're taking your shirt off, I'm taking mine off.” He replied, yanking his blue tank top off over his head.
“What, for your six babies?” Lily teased him, touching his fur covered abs.
“They're sympathy babies.” Sy chuckled at her.
“Sympathy babies?” She roared with laughter.
“You know what a sympathy pregnancy is?” He asked, grinning at her. “It's that, just six mini ones.”
“Well, that's the fast way to have a bunch of kids.” Lily joked back, thoroughly amused at his sympathy babies.
“Okay, back to what we were doing.”
“Right, what now, Mama?”
“I'm going to stand here.” She said, moving in front of him and resting her back against his chest. “And you're going to put your hands here.” She reached back, gripping Sy's wrists and moved them around to the front of her, so his hands cradled her growing baby bump.
“Like this?” Sy asked, making small adjustments.
“Yes, perfect.” Lily nodded, holding a small remote in her hand that would allow her to snap the photo, but before she could press the button, Aika came charging in and barked at them. “Oh my, how could I be so rude to forget you, Aika.” She cooed at the German Shepherd.
“Aika, sit.” Sy snapped his fingers at her and she instantly sat down before them, staring up at them, ears erect and head cocked to the side.
“That's so perfect.” Lily grinned at Aika. “So, I'm going to look at my belly and you can look at me.” She instructed Sy.
“Way ahead of you, Angel.” Sy replied, already looking at the back of her head, and just before she pressed the button on the camera's remote, he kissed her hair. “Let's see it.” He said, moving away from her.
Lily grabbed the camera off the tripod and pulled it up on the display screen, instantly grinning at it. The image of Sy cradling her baby bump, while she looked down at it, and kissing the back of her head, with Aika looking curiously up at her two and a half humans. She couldn't wait to add it to the baby book she had bought several weeks before and started putting together.
“You want to do a few more?” She asked, looking up from the camera.
“You're damn right I do.” Sy nodded, excited at the thought of doing an activity with Lily and anything that included their baby, still in her belly or not.
“Do you have any suggestions?” She inquired, tilting her head at him.
He bit his lip, then lifted a finger at her and left the room, coming back several minutes later with a worn, Army green shirt with two patches on the short sleeves, one for the U.S Army Special Forces and the other was the custom Special Forces patch for the team he was the leader of.
“I wore this a lot, while on tour.” He explained to her, looking at the garment in his hands.
Lily smiled at him, seeing and feeling how shy he was as he tried to explain his thoughts for what he wanted for a few shots. “I like that idea, Bear.” She assured him.
“Yeah?” Sy replied, lighting up.
“I do.” Lily nodded, eyes sparkling at him. “Just tell me what you want me to do.”
“Okay, um.” He looked around, he wasn't as good as Lily with setting up photo shots, but he had an idea in his head. “Here, put it on.” He said, handing her his shirt.
“All right.” Lily took his shirt and slipped it on.
“Can you..” He paused, biting his lip and glancing around. “Can you sit the camera up on the coffee table, like you had it here?” He asked, motioning to the tripod still sitting on the dining table.
“I very much can.” Lily nodded, grabbing the tripod and her camera, taking them into the living room and set them up on the coffee table as he asked.
“What next?”
“Lay down on the couch, sorta propped up on the arm.”
Nodding, Lily did as he asked and Sy fussed with the camera for a moment, making sure the shot would be wide enough, then moved around the coffee table, slipping onto the couch with her and positioning himself so he was between her legs, his face level with her belly.
“You have the remote to the camera?” He asked her.
“I do.” She nodded, grinning at him and held the remote up for him to see.
“Okay, good.” He gave her a short nod. “I'm gonna kiss your gorgeous belly and I want you to snap it.”
“As you wish, Bear.” Lily chuckled, gently patting his cheek.
Sy lowered his head, a soft blush on his bearded cheeks, that Lily hoped she could get in on the camera, and gently pressed his lips to her belly through the fabric of his old Army shirt. Lily waited a moment, admiring and savoring it for herself, before actually taking the photo of him doing it.
“How about one for just you and I?” Lily suggested, when Sy sat back up. “Not for the baby book, just me and you.”
“Oh?” Sy grinned, his brow going up in a suggestive manner.
Lily licked her lips and nodded her head. “Where are your dog tags?”
“My dog tags?”
“Well, I certainly don't have any.” She chuckled at him.
“Huh, I think they're upstairs in one of the boxes I brought over when I officially moved in.” He replied, brow creasing as he tried to recall which of the boxes it was he might have put them in.
“Then, go find them.”
“All right then, Miss.” He replied, getting up off the couch and going back upstairs.
“That's Mrs. Thank you!” Lily hollered after him, shaking her head and stood up, grabbing her camera and the tripod, then going upstairs after him.
“What is that beautiful brain thinking?” Sy asked, pulling out a box from the closet and setting it on their bed as she came into the room.
“When you find your dog tags, I'll tell you.” She smiled at him, setting the tripod and camera down on the dresser across from their bed.
“Ah-ha!” He let out triumphantly, smiling and pulled out his dog tags from the third box for Lily to see the two thin tags dangling from their chain, rimmed by black rubber to keep them from making noise, when they hit together.
“Nope.” He shook his head at her, pulling the dog tags away as she reached out for them. “Tell me what you want them for first, little lady.”
“I'm going to get naked and they'll be the only thing I'm wearing.” She told him, bluntly.
Sy gulped, his eyes widening at the thought. “Sold.” He squeaked, handing them to her.
Lily removed her clothing and slipped Sy's dog tags over her head, resting between the swell of her breasts and the top of her sloping belly. “Get in bed, Syverson.” She said, motioning to their bed with her head.
“As you wish, Syverson.” He chuckled at her. “You want me to get naked too?” He teased her.
“If you wanna.” Lily chuckled back, following close behind him.
“I do.” He smirked and pushed his shorts down, kicking them aside and got into bed, resting back against their pillows and the headboard.
Lily crawled into bed with him, nuzzling herself between his legs, making him moan a bit as her ass rubbed against his semi-flaccid cock. She hooked Sy's feet around, so she sat in the bowl in the middle of them and rested back against his chest, then had him rest his head on her shoulder, with one of his hands cupped the side of her stomach and she rested her hand on top of his there. She gasped softly, feeling his other hand gently cup one of her sore breasts, his face gently nuzzling her neck with a soft smile.
“I love you.” He murmured.
“I love you too, Bear.” She cooed back, resting comfortably against him, and snapped the shot. “It'll be better, when my stomach is bigger.”
“Oh, I really can't wait for that.” Sy admitted, rubbing his calloused hands over her stomach. “I can't wait for the moment when I can put my hands on your belly and feel the baby move against my palms.” He told her, fantasizing about it.
“I feel little flutters every now and then.” Lily replied, resting her head back against his shoulder. “But, nothing I can share with you yet.” She told him, comfortable in their weird little huddle.
“One day soon, Angel.” He whispered into her ear, hugging his arms around her and closing his eyes.
“Sy!” Lily screamed, wiggling and panting. “Austin! Jesus Christ.” She huffed as Aika barked and paced around her.
Sy came pounding down the stairs, hearing her frantic yelling from where he was upstairs, still working in the nursery. “Lily!” He yelled, tearing into the living room, out of breath and scared out of his mind.
“What's wrong?” He asked, staring down at her as she laid on her bright purple yoga mat on the living room floor, she had gotten into pregnancy yoga, after trying it during one of the parenting classes they attended. “Is it the baby?” His eyes searched every inch of her body, watching Aika shove her nose underneath Lily's hips, sides and in the nook of her neck, making her wiggle even more and squeal.
“The baby is fine, Austin.” Lily huffed, out of breath and going limp on the yoga mat. “It's me, that's the problem.” She scowled, her face bright red.
Sy's face didn't change. “What is it, Angel?”
Lily bit her lip and huffed again, glancing away from him, knowing what was coming next out of him. “I can't get up.”
And there it fucking was.
Sy's head reared back and his laugh roared through the house like a boom of thunder, startling the daylights out of Aika, who barked directly into Lily's ear and bolted for the new doggy door in the kitchen and vanished into the backyard. His whole body shook as he continued to laugh at her for not being able to get up from her mat, even starting to wheeze.
“Good lord, Wyatt!” Lily growled at him.
“You're like a turtle!” He howled, bending forward, tears rolling down his cheeks. “Should I call PETA first? I don't want to get in trouble for endangering wildlife.” He cackled, rubbing her now pronounced belly.
“The only thing endanger is your sex life!” Lily threatened him. “Now, help me up! Your kid is squishing my bladder!” She begged, holding her hands out to him and desperately wiggling her fingers.
“All right! All right.” He chuckled, grabbing her hands and carefully pulled her up onto her feet. “Waddle faster, my little submarine!” He shouted after her, starting to laugh all over again.
“I hate you!” She shouted over her shoulder, just making it to the hall bathroom.
“You ready, Bear?” Lily asked, squeezing Sy's hand as they followed the nurse back to the exam room.
“As I can be, Angel.” He replied, taking a deep breath. “As I can be.”
It was Lily's twenty-third week baby appointment and the moment of truth, when they found out the gender of their baby. They were both excited and nervous about finding out, having spent the last two weeks scouring names of cities and flowers and making their own lists for names if they had a girl or a boy, to then narrow down, once they did find out what gender they were having; and today was that day.
“Good morning.” Dr. Evers smiled as she came into their exam room. “How are parents and baby doing today?” She asked, sitting down on a stool.
“We're doing really well.” Lily smiled back at her, giddy. “Ready to find out the gender.” She said, glancing over at Sy.
“I bet you're just chomping it to bits to find out.” Dr. Evers chuckled, doing a quick regular exam of Lily, before setting up the ultrasound.
“I love hearing that sound.” Sy said, unconscionably as the baby's heartbeat filled the room.
“It's a precious sound.” Evers agreed, smiling over at him.
“Amen.” Lily nodded, gripping Sy's hand and staring at the screen.
“Let's see if I can get a better position.” Dr. Evers said, moving the transducer around Lily's belly, spreading more of the warm jelly with it, then went quiet for a few minutes, typing a few things on the keyboard.
“Is everything okay?” Sy asked, nervously.
“Everything is perfectly fine.” She smiled at him. “Just making a few measurements.” She assured him, before moving the transducer again. “Ah, there you are.” She grinned brightly, finally getting the right angle on the screen that she needed to tell her what gender the Syverson's baby was.
“Do you want to know right now, or do you want me to write it down and you can look when you get home?” She asked, regarding the two of them.
Lily and Sy looked at each other, a silent conversation going on between them for a long moment before Lily looked back at Dr. Evers and smiled, nervously, at her and nodded her head.
“Now, please.”
Nodding her head back at them, then pointed to the screen. “If you look right there.” She outlined what she was indicating. “You can just make out what it is. So, I'm happy to tell you, you are expecting a healthy baby girl.”
“A girl.” Sy echoed back, his voice weak with emotion and his eyes glued to the screen. “I have a daughter.”
“A daughter, Bear.” Lily grinned at him, reaching up and wiping away the silent tears that were starting to fall down his face. “We have a daughter, Sy.”
Sy wrapped his arms around Lily and hugged her for dear life, burying his face into her neck, soaking the shoulder of her shirt with his tears. “Thank you.” He sniffled and hiccuped. “Thank you.”
“We did it together, Sy.” Lily replied, emotional as well. “We both did this.”
“You guys are doing great and the baby is doing amazingly.” Dr. Evers complimented them, a bit choked up as well. “I'll have you set up your next appointment and you know to contact me, if anything happens.”
“Thanks, doc.” Sy smiled at her.
“It's my pleasure.” She assured him.
“All right, Bear. You said, if we had a girl you had a middle name for her, now out with it.” Lily said, as they drove back home.
Sy cleared his throat, still an emotional wreck that they were having a daughter. “Imogene.”
“Imogene.” Lily repeated, blinking at him. “Why Imogene?” She asked, tilting her head at him.
He was quiet for a long while, trying to get a handle on an old emotional lump that was trying to push up alongside the one already in his throat. “I want her to have the middle name, Imogene,” He started to explain, as they reached their driveway.
“Because, it was my mama's name.” He told her, softly.

summary: Bucky Barnes has a new routine.
warnings: Some swearing
a/n: This was my March 2020 one shot for my Patreon that they received early access to. Let me know what y’all think!
Bucky Barnes has a new routine.
Sundays are for sleeping in before eventually making his way to Brooklyn, where he picks up three bouquets and an egg, bacon, and cheese breakfast sandwich from Sal’s bodega before going to the cemetery. He sits against his sister’s tombstone—his parents’ to his right—and eats his late breakfast. He sits and talks for a few hours before leaving the flowers on their graves. He always has to have peonies, since those were Becca’s favorites.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are for training. He wakes up at five in the morning to go running with Sam, something he thought would end when Steve went back to be with Peggy Carter. But he wasn’t bitter. No.
But which thing he wasn’t bitter about, he’d never tell.
Along with the run, he spends most of the day sparring and battling simulations in the gym. He has short breaks for meals, but he pretty much is on go until after dinner, when he goes straight to bed.
But Fridays are his favorite. Because he gets to sleep in until nine-thirty in the morning, which is a luxury he’s not used to. Then Sam and him grab a late breakfast together before Bucky goes into the city for his therapy session.
And Bucky likes his therapist! Which he was really, really surprised about! But Marlene is good. Marlene is good because she doesn’t placate him. She calls him out on his shit, and pushes him forward. Because if it had been up to him, he would’ve stopped seeing her after their third meeting, when she had him drawing with fucking crayons that snapped in his hand way too easily. But it’s been over a year since he started seeing her, and even though he still has his bad days, his bad days now would’ve been his best days before.
“So, you think you’re finally ready to go through Rebecca’s things?” Marlene asks, looking at him with a peaceful expression.
“I don’t think so, I am,” he says firmly, feeling a rush of triumph as a smile spreads across her lips. “It’s time, you know?”
She nods in understanding, humming. “Do you have someone going with you?”
Usually, Sam would go with him for things like this, and just in general. They were attached at the hip, especially after the whole Steve leaving thing.
Yeah, they were both hit pretty hard with that.
“Yes, but I…” He sighs, rubbing his hands on his jeans. “I think this is something I need to do alone. At least, the going through her stuff part… But he is going with me to move the stuff to the Tower.”
“Good, good,” she says, her brows slightly furrowed. “And how are you feeling today about Steve leaving?”
Bucky lets out a huff of air, taking a moment to think about it. “To be completely honest with you… I’m kind of over it today. I have other things to do and yeah, I would’ve liked him to be here for it, but that’s not how it is. And him leaving is more about him than it is about me.” He shrugs, his lips pressed into a thin line. “Just because he decided to go back doesn’t mean he wanted to leave me.”
Marlene sets her clipboard to the side, a warm smile on her face. “Well, Bucky, I think we’ll end today on that thought.” She stands up, offering her hand for him to shake as she does everyday. “You’ve done well today. You should be proud of yourself.”
He leaves with a wave and a “See you next week!” as he always does.
He hadn’t known about the storage unit full of his sister’s stuff until about eight months ago, when he asked Maria Hill if there was anything left of hers. He knew that SHIELD had been the ones to take control of her assets when she had no children, since she was the sister of a Howling Commando and the best friend of Captain America.
Becca had died in December of 2013. He’d missed her by less than six months.
It was heartbreaking when he first found out, and still is, if he was being honest. But at least he has her stuff to go through, even though he has no idea what all is going to be in the storage unit. Stevie hadn’t had anything other than what the Smithsonian had snatched up.
The car ride to the storage facility is quiet, Sam at the wheel. Bucky still hasn’t gotten his license, since he doesn’t see a point. Why should he when there’s the subway and Uber and even just good old fashioned walking? “You’ve gotta save the Earth, Sam,” he says when he really feels like irritating the other man.
“You sure you’re ready for this, man?” Sam asks as they stand in front of storage unit 429.
“Yeah,” Buck says, punching in the key code and lifting up the door. “Yeah, I’m ready.” He flips the light switch on the wall, and is shocked by just how much stuff there is. There’s boxes upon boxes upon boxes.
Sam’s hands go to his hips as he looks at it, whistling. “Alright. Let’s get it loaded.”
It takes several hours and three trips to get everything from the storage unit to the Tower, and by the end of it, the both of them just collapse on the couch with a couple of beers and a pizza to share between them.
But Saturday morning comes bright and early, and even though it’s his only day out of the week where he has absolutely nothing to do, Bucky knows he has to start going through her things.
The first four boxes are just clothes. Clothes upon clothes upon clothes. He finds a baby blue dress that she used to wear for church, starched to perfection, and he holds it to his chest for a long time. He cries then.
And he knows that the fact that she’s hoarded so many clothes has a lot to do from growing up during the Depression. He still finds himself falling into old habits of checking the price of food, despite the fact that he never has to worry about money again with his Avengers salary and the backpay from being a POW.
He finds his parents’ wedding rings, and the string of pearls his ma wore for special occasions.
And then he finds an old shoe box, and when he opens it up, he finds letters. Letters upon letters upon letters. They’re in bundles, tied together with fraying ribbon. The paper is yellowed and soft from being folded and unfolded so many times, and he can see the looping black letters that covered the pages.
He takes the ones that look the oldest and unties them, he takes the top one from the stack and sets the rest to the side, before carefully unfolding it.
“Ruthie,” he says quietly as he reads the name at the bottom, not even bothering to read it yet. “Ruthie…” His eyes pop open as he suddenly remembers, remembers receiving letters everyday from a girl in the Bronx. They were never romantic, but it was nice being able to write to someone and not having to hide how bad it was, like he had to with his ma and Becca. She even sent her picture once, so he could know who he was writing to. “Ruthie!”
He spends the rest of the day reading the letters, and passes out sometime around four in the morning with his face on a letter. He takes the letters with him to his family’s graves the next day, reading to them after he replaces the flowers.
It takes him two more days to finish reading all the letters, in between breaks while training and staying up until he absolutely can’t.
He cries a lot while he reads it. He’s not afraid to admit that. But it’s nice to remember that he had a friend to listen to him during one of the worst times of his life.
Bucky’s almost afraid to look her up, to find out if she was still alive, and if he could go see her, to thank her. They wrote back and forth until the day he fell off the train, and he knows that had to be pretty jarring for her.
But then Sam finds out about the letters—it would be hard for him not to, considering that he was walking around with his nose in the letters for days—and it’s all over.
Turns out, she’s alive. She’s alive, and she’s still in Queens.
He goes the next Saturday, taking his bike all the way to the other borough. He looks a little intimidating and extremely different from how he looked back then, but he hopes she recognizes him. He really, really hopes she recognizes him, because otherwise this’ll be real awkward.
He stands in front of the door for a long time, taking his hands in and out of his pockets about eight times before he finally reaches up and knocks.
And then the door opens, and there’s Ruthie.
Well, not Ruthie, though at first glance, you’re the perfect picture of her. You’ve got her hair and her eyes, and the curve of her lips. But the nose is different.
“Can I help you?” You ask, raising your eyebrows at him. You’re wiping your hand on a hand towel, peering at him like you recognize him from somewhere but you don’t know where.
“Hi, uh,” he says slowly. His throat is suddenly so dry that he can barely talk. “I’m Bucky. Bucky Barnes. I was pen pals with—”
He’s cut off by Ruthie herself appearing in the doorway. She’s much older—she is ninety-nine, after all—but it’s definitely her. “Did you say Bucky Barnes?” The little old lady’s eyes widened as she saw him, her hand over her heart. “Oh, my stars, it’s really you. I heard about what happened to you, and I…” She shakes her head, clicking her tongue. “Why, it almost gave me a heart attack, you know.”
“Little Ruthie Pratt from Queens,” he says, reaching in his pocket and holding up the letters. “I found these while, uh, going through my sister’s stuff.”
“I still have mine!” Ruthie says, pulling him inside.
It’s nice and homey and everything that Bucky had thought it would be. The front foyer is covered in photos, and there’s quite a few of you. You’re clearly one of Ruthie’s pride and joys, if the sheer amount of them has anything to do about it.
“I used to read these to my grandbaby here,” Ruthie says as she comes back with an old oak jewelry box in hand. “Anytime she stayed the night—her parents worked a lot when she was growing up—she always asked me to read her one of my ‘Bucky letters.’”
“Grandmama,” you say, cheeks flushing as you avoid his eyes.
“It was so cute! She used to recite them word for word along with me!” Ruthie teases as they go to the living room.
It’s quaint, with soft pastel colors dominating the room. He sits on a floral sofa that’s got a circle with dark hair on it, the marking of a furry friend’s favorite spot. He watches as you move to the kitchen, grabbing a pitcher of what looks like tea and a few glasses.
You sit beside her with the ease of knowing that you belong here, pouring yourself a glass. “Grandmama, do you want some tea?”
She scoffs, rolling her eyes as she opens the box and looks for the oldest one. “You keep that monstrosity away from me,” she says. Seemingly remembering Bucky’s presence, she says, “My daughter’s husband is from Louisiana. Ridiculous man got both her and my grandbaby addicted to that absolute sludge.”
The secret smile you give him as the two of you listen to her tirade about sweet tea makes him feel at ease, and sets the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Things go on as normal, or as normal as they can.
And Marlene happens to think that all of this is absolutely fantastic for him. She loves that he’s now spending time with Ruthie and you, reconnecting with his past while understanding that he doesn’t have to be the person he was in the letters.
He’s different. He’s not the Bucky that Ruthie knew back then.
It’s an unusually warm day in November four months later when he takes you out for a coffee, just the two of you. And it isn’t a date—really, it isn’t—but he finds himself wanting it to be about halfway through his second coffee.
And that’s why he starts talking about dating to Marlene, who had, quite frankly, been waiting for him to realize his feelings for a while.
“I think I’m in love with her,” he says as he storms into his therapy session, eyes wild and hair a disarray. He’s clearly been worrying real hard about it.
Marlene looks up at him, peering over the silver rim of her glasses. “Oh, really?” She says nonchalantly, as though she doesn’t have you in her notes about him. “And why is that?”
Bucky can’t help the frown on his face as he realizes that she didn’t even ask who he was talking about, because she knew. “I… I don’t know,” he says, slumping into his usual chair. “She makes me happy. Happier than I’ve ever been. And she always makes me laugh, even at the most inappropriate of times.” His gaze softens the more he thinks about you. “And she isn’t scared of me. She doesn’t judge me. She’s read about everything I did in the war, even before HYDRA, and she doesn’t care.” His hands are sweating as he rubs them together. “Actually, it’s not that she doesn’t care—she does care—but she cares because she… she loves me.”
You love him. And sure, he knows that. You’ve said that you love him multiple times, even if you only mean it as a friend way.
But the thought that he has someone who loves him that doesn’t have to is… groundbreaking.
“She loves me, and she wants me to be okay,” he says, looking up at Marlene then.
His therapist has a pleased look in her eyes, even if she won’t let it show with a smile. “I think she’s good for you,” she says simply, her pen held loosely in her hand. “Are you seeing her again soon?”
“I’m seeing her tomorrow night,” he says, his heart growing light. “We’re grabbing a few drinks to celebrate her finally graduating from cosmetology school.”
It’s a big deal for you, completely something. You’re smart, there’s no denying that, but when it comes to schooling… You’d done well in high school, but college proved to be the bane of your existence.
You’d dropped out in the middle of your junior year, and that had been it. You’d moved to Queens to live with Ruthie after, working various low level jobs and trying to find something that fit.
But you’d fit in at cosmetology school. Hell, you excelled. And you enjoyed it! You enjoyed waking up in the morning and going to your classes!
You cried when you got your certificate, and it was now framed in Ruthie’s house until you start your first salon job in two weeks.
“Are you going to tell her about your feelings?” Marlene asks curiously.
Now that makes him pause.
“... Should I?” Bucky asks, feeling a wave of anxiety coming over him. “What if she doesn’t feel the same way? And she sees me as just a friend?”
“If she’s really your friend, she won’t abandon you just because you tell her you have romantic feelings for her.”
“You sure about that?”
Marlene fixes him with a look, raising one perfectly sculpted eyebrow.
He runs his tongue over his teeth. “Fine. You’re sure,” he says, slumping a little in his chair. “Doesn’t mean it’s easy.”
She snorts, making a note on her pad. “I never said it was going to be easy, Bucky. Doesn’t mean it can’t be done.”
The next night, he spends an hour and a half trying to decide what to wear. “It shouldn’t be this hard,” he grumbles as he switches shirts for the forty-ninth time. “It’s just drinks.”
Sam, however, is having a great time watching his new best friend freak out over seeing a girl for the first time. “I mean, she already agreed to going out with your ugly mug, man. It’s not gonna matter what you wear.”
And in some way, that helps. A little.
But he does have to threaten Sam with bodily harm if he spies on his date that’s not really a date.
He almost boxes him the ear when he insists for the fourth time that it’s a date.
He shows up at your door with a bouquet of flowers from Sal’s bodega, the buttons of his dark blue henley left open, exposing a smattering of chest hair.
When you open the door, the air is knocked from his lungs. You look absolutely radiant. The light from the sinking sun is giving you a halo-like glow, and he’s sure, not for the first time, that you’re an actual angel.
“Hi,” you say, a flush on your cheeks as you see the flowers. “Are those… Are those for me?”
He nods dumbly, trying to swallow down the lump in his throat. “Y-Yes,” he says, pushing them into your arms. “As a congrats. For, you know, graduating. And stuff.”
“Thank you,” you say as you take them, handing them to Ruthie.
She’s standing just inside the door, a giddy look on her face as she holds the flowers, watching you take the motorcycle helmet from his hands. “Have her back by twelve!”
“Grandmama!”
“Fine! Twelve-thirty!”
You’re clearly embarrassed by her antics as he helps you on behind him, guiding your arms around his waist.
“You ready?” He asks, his voice breathy.
A shiver runs down your spine as you nod, wrapping your arms tighter around him as he starts the bike, taking off.
“She doesn’t actually mean that,” you say as he leads you into the tiny, out of the way bar. You’re fixing your hair, trying your best to appear presentable. “I’m grown, you know. I don’t… I don’t have a curfew.”
A slow smile spreads over his lips as he listens to you ramble. “I know,” he says finally, figuring he should put you out of your misery. “Ruthie does like to tease those she loves.”
The bar is quaint, clearly a local place that tourists haven’t invaded. He leads you to a high table, calling out your order to the lone bartender.
“So, I—”
“I like you,” Bucky says, unintentionally cutting you off with a wince. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt you, but I really, really like you, and I really, really want this to be a date, but if you don’t feel the same way then I completely understand and we can just forget that I ever said anything and everything can just go back to normal and that might be the best thing because, quite frankly, I haven’t dated since the forties and I have no idea how dating is supposed to work nowadays, but I’d really like to try it with you but only if you—”
His rambling is cut off as you place your hand on his, intertwining your fingers. “Okay,” you say, like it’s the easiest thing ever. “It’s a date.”
He stares at you for an embarrassingly long time, his mouth dry. “Uh… What?” He says quietly. His heart is pounding at an unnaturally fast pace, and he honestly thinks he might be on the verge of a heart attack.
“I like you, too,” you say, smiling at the bartender as he brings you over your drinks. You look so beautiful, your eyes the brightest thing in the dim lighting of the bar. “So this is a date.”
“Okay,” he breathes out, a wave of relief washing over him. “It’s a date.”
He’s a little starstruck as you continue on with what you were going to say before, a pink blush dusting his cheeks. Your hand stays in his for the rest of the night, occasionally giving a little squeeze as though you’re reminding him that you’re still there and you’re not going to disappear.
And it feels good.
And okay, Marlene may have been right.
And yeah, Fridays might be good. But as he sits there with you until the late hours of the night, he’s sure: Saturdays are his new favorite day. Because Saturdays brought him a new beginning when he wasn’t expecting it.

Imagine that no power AU where Natasha falls for this cute artsy girl and slowly finds out (to her horror) that Wanda's not just some random artsy crafts girl who plays guitar, but the (adopted) Granddaughter of the owner of the company Natasha works for. As in oh, oh no, that's Carter's grandbaby, Carter's gonna kill me.
baby carter
Wanda Maximoff x Natasha Romanoff (scarlet widow \ wandanat)
warnings: cursing? Terrible grammar and writing maybe because my brain's having hard time.
A\N: soft scarlet widow- Natasha being awkward and charming and Wanda being absolutely adorable. also, I honestly don't know what I feel bout it - I think it's kinda messy especially compared to my latest work.
words: idk... a lot?
masterlist
Natasha's been working in carter's Law Firm for almost 3 years now, slowly climbing up the company's hierarchical food chain, yet not enough to get the well-deserved promotion she was aching to get.
Not that she was ungrateful, hell no. not long after she graduated she got the job in carter's, which was one of the best and strongest law firms in the market. This means that not only that she found herself working alongside some of the best lawyers in the world, she truly couldn't complain about the paycheck she was getting every month.
Natasha wasn't ungrateful, but she was driven and she knew she was great at her job, hell, she was the best young lawyer in her class, yet, after 3 years in the firm, she was still working under Coulson. Which naturally means, she did a lot of dirty work instead of representing her own cases. Working with Coulson was great, really, the man was nice, sweet, a bit nerdy at times, and of course, such a great lawyer. Looking back, Natasha should give him credit for many things she achieved in the last 3 years, and one of them was meeting the love of her life- the one and only Wanda Maximoff.
One Thursday evening, as she was just finishing up some paperwork at the firm's office in New York, she got a call from Coulson, who let her know they were cutting the day short following personal constraints.
Instead of going straight home to rest after the brutal week, as she probably should've done, she decided to text Steve and Tony to see if they were free. luckily for her, her two best friends were willing to sacrifice any plans they had for this fine Thursday night, to celebrate the rare occasion of Natasha getting out of the firm before 8 pm.
The bar steve chose was nice, rather quiet and chill. Naturally, tony didn't seem to be a fan of the blonde's choice, but since it was Steve's turn to choose a place there wasn't much he could've done about it.
"We should sit near the stage" Steve said as he spotted an empty table at the other side of the bar, near the stage.
"What's wrong with you rogers? Do you want us to sit near the stage where random people will try to squick their hearts out to a Celine Dion song?" Tony sneered out, his eyes shooting daggers at the blonde as they sat.
"It's not a karaoke bar, tony" Natasha defended steve's choice.
"Yeah, this bar hosts young talented artists, I think it's awesome and refreshing" the blonde explained.
"I still hate it" tony said.
"We don't care" Natasha said as a waitress came to the table.
Over an hour and a half later, 3 performances were over and two bawls of fries as well, the next artist got onto the stage.
The woman was young, probably younger than Natasha, and beautiful.
She was dressed rather simply compared to the other artists, just a plain white T and an old pair of skinny jeans.
Natasha noticed that some strands of her dark brown hair got stuck under her red guitar's strap.
The woman was smiling nervously as she introduced herself to the crowd and Natasha couldn't help but send her an encouraging small smile.
Surprisingly for her, the woman smiled back.
Tony and steve noticed it as well and they exchanged knowing looks.
The singer's voice was almost as beautiful as her.
Her fingers softly strumming on the frets- as almost as it was second nature, while her soft angelic voice filled the room, sending chills through Natasha's body.
Natasha smiled when she noticed how quiet the bar became, everyone seemed to be enchanted by the young singer.
When the singer finished her preference she smiled brightly to the audience, who cheered for her loudly- as she deserved, and got off the stage.
Natasha noticed the poor singer who was supposed to try and top her incredible performance. He seemed miserable.
"Earth to nat!?" Tony waved his hand in front of Natasha. The redhead blinked twice before tearing her attention from the singer and to her friends.
Steve was smiling at her, his eyes glittering in enthusiasm, while tony smirked at her with raised eyebrows.
"I'm sorry, what?" She asked.
Steve laughed and tony sigh.
"We said that she was really good" the blonde explained
"Not that you haven't noticed it, you've been practically drooling," Tony said.
"I was not" she defended herself
"You were," he said. "But we don't judge you Romanoff, its natural, she was pretty and you didn't get laid in a while. Plus- You always had a thing for the innocent looking ones" he explained and Natasha sent him her dirtiest glare.
If a look could kill tony stark would've been dead by now.
"Okay first, I wasn't drooling. Second, fuck you"
"Nice comeback" tony taunted her with a smirk, knowing full well he wasn't completely wrong.
"You should ask her out. You seem to like her"
Steve smiled at her and Natasha knew he meant it- he was was always the sweetest one of the three.
"Fancy her" tony corrected steve.
"She Like her" steve raised his eyebrow at his friend.
"Fancy" tony taunted
"Li-" steve was about to argue again until Natasha cut the stupid argument off.
"Fuck off you too," she said and waved to the waiter, hoping that another beer might make the two less annoying.
When the waiter didn't come, Natasha got frustrated, her two friends started to argue over another idiotic thing: steve's lack of love life and tony's girlfriend's lack of taste In men.
"I'm gonna get a refill," she said as she got up. The two sent her quick okays before getting back to their bickering.
When Natasha approached the bar she noticed a familiar face.
The singer was sitting in front of the bar's counter with a glass of mojito. She seemed to be having a polite conversation with the bartender.
"Hey, I'm sorry to interrupt but can I have a refill?" Natasha asked the bartender. The man smiled at her and nodded before he replaced her empty cup with a new one.
The singer smiled at her softly again- Natasha smiled nervously at her.
"I'm Natasha" Natasha said awkwardly to the girl, her cheeks flushed.
Wanda smiled back at her "hey Natasha, I'm Wanda" Wanda, the singer said as she held out her hand for a handshake.
Natasha took her hand, praying to whatever god exist that her hand wasn't sweaty.
'What's wrong with me?' She thought as she mentally faces palmed herself.
"I liked your performance," Natasha said and Wanda smiled at her.
Natasha smiled back, happy she had the privilege to be the reason the singer smiled.
"Thank you" wanda thanked her.
"I saw you at the front line," Wanda said and Natasha nodded.
"Yeah, my friend likes this place. He chose the table" she admitted.
"That's nice, I'm guessing it's your first time in here"
"Yeah, it is actually. Was I that obvious?" Natasha joked and Wanda laughed.
"Just a little bit," Wanda said with a smile "what do you think about it so far?"
"It's really nice, honestly" Natasha admitted.
"Yeah, I think that as well. I come here often with my cousin and brother but its the first time I was on stage"
"Well, you were great. Seriously. You were" she started before gazing at the stage briefly, catching the sight of the young singer who went up after Wanda. "sorry, are- the best singer" she continued and Wanda blushed.
"Thank you it means a lot"
"Anytime," Natasha said back
"I should really go... It was lovely meeting you Natasha." Wanda said as she checked the time, a small frown on her lips.
"You too," Natasha said.
Wanda nodded at her before getting up and turning around from Natasha to pull her guitar.
when Natasha took a small sip from her beer she catches the bartender's eye.
The guy was giving her the 'are you kidding me?!' look- who was a well-known look she was familiar with from years of friendship with tony.
"Hey Wanda-" Natasha said to Wanda, who was about to walk away. The singer turned back around with a small confused smile.
"Yeah?" She asked
"Would you like to, maybe, I don't know.. go out sometime?" Natasha stuttered.
'Did I just fucking stuttered!?' She mentally kicked herself.
"Yeah.. id like that" Wanda said with a smile. The brunette took a pen out of her jeans pocket and scribble something on Natasha's arm.
"Call me," Wanda said with a smile before she smiled at the bartender, who tried to look busy with anything but them.
"Bye bucky" she laughed at his antics and left.
Natasha looked up from the scrabble on her hand, who was- of course Wanda's number with a small heart at the bottom, and exchange looks with bucky the bartender.
"That went well, right?" She asked him dumbfounded and he laughed before handing her a shot glass with vodka.
"Yeah it did.. friendly advice, don't fuck it up" he said as passed her a slice of lemon.
Natasha downed the shot, nodded at him as she took her beer, and left the lemon on the counter. Her legs taking her back to her table. both of her friends were staring at her with wide eyes.
"Hell yeah Romanoff!" Tony said excitedly.
Natasha smiled at tony before looking at steve with a chuckle "the bartender is your type" she said as she set.
Steve gave her a 'are you kidding me look before his eyes traveled from her to the bartender at the bar.
----------------------ᱬ----------------------
Not long after Natasha and Wanda met again, a few times actually. 10 minutes into their first date, Natasha knew she was in trouble.
Wanda was completing Natasha on almost every level she thought about.
Wanda was carefree and dorky as Natasha was a stressed workaholic.
Wanda liked homemade meals and cooking while Natasha was practically living on boxed mac and cheese or takeout.
Natasha loved to binge movies and random tv shows into the night while Wanda liked getting up early to watch the sunrise.
Wanda loved fruity alcoholic drinks while Natasha preferred it clean.
Wanda was a splash of color in Natasha's black and white life.
Not long after, Natasha asked wanda to be her girlfriend- it happened in a month and a half after their first meeting as the two women laid in Wanda's bed, naked and sweaty with their limbs intertwined.
She could've done it more romantic, but both girls truly couldn't give a damn about it.
Wanda's apartment was incredible.
The studio apartment was big and bright.
The apartment's walls color was cream and the tall window frames were covered with white curtains.
In the beginning, Natasha didn't really understand why wanda even bother to use these curtains since the sun would light the room either way, (she found out about this terrible trait when she first stayed over and found herself awake and cursing under her breath at 7 am) But, luckily for her, Natasha learned rather fast why the younger girl's windows where ALWAYS covered. It was simple, really.
Wanda had this habit to walk around the apartment half-naked, or completely naked on better days, and as much as Natasha was grateful for that (and she was), she truly wasn't the one to share, especially not the image of her naked girlfriend as she walked around the apartment or squirmed under her touch on the bed- or anywhere they chose, really.
"Nat?" Wanda whispered softly as she was playing with her sleepy girlfriend's hair and spread soft kisses on her back.
"Hm?" Natasha hummed, half asleep.
"There's something I need to tell you" Wanda said softly. Her voice barely a whisper.
"Is everything okay, baby?" Natasha asked as she turned around to face the taller woman.
Natasha's eyebrows were tightened together in worry and Wanda couldn't help but kiss her on the nose.
"Yeah" she whispered and Natasha waited patiently for her to continue "it's just that.. there's something I need to tell you... about my family"
"Okay.." Natasha encouraged her to continue.
"My family-" she started, but got cut off by Natasha's phone buzzing on the nightstand.
"Fuck" Natasha cursed before turning around to check who it was- and if she can ignore it.
The name on the screen was definitely a sight she could not ignore.
"Just a second baby, it's my boss" she said as she pulled herself up to answer the phone. by doing so, Natasha missed wanda's guilty lip bite.
----------------------ᱬ----------------------
That's how things went for another month. In this month Natasha got the promotion she wanted which meant she was enthusiastic for days later- and Wanda couldn't bear the thought of ruining it for her.
And that's how it went overtime.
Every time Wanda manage to muster enough courage to tell Natasha whatever she wanted to say, something happened and ruined it.
But jean Racine was indeed right: 'there are no secrets that time does not reveal', and unfortunately for both women, wanda's secret got revealed in a rather unpleasant and awkward situation.
It was a pretty normal day for Natasha.
Or at least it started as one. she spent the night at Wanda's again, which means she had a hard time leaving bed in the morning but she managed it so now, a few hours later, she was having lunch at a deserted meeting room with a few friends from the office
"hey, nat.. is that your girlfriend??" Sam asked, his eyes following a girl who passes near the glass door.
"Wanda?" Natasha asked him confused.
They weren't supposed to meet today for lunch, didn't they?
"Do you have another girlfriend I'm not aware of?" He asked
"Shut up Wilson, why would Wanda be here!?"
"I don't know Romanoff, she's your girlfriend. All I can say is that she seemed to be in a deep conversation with Sharon"
"Carter?"
"the one and only" Carol whispered and Gamora rolled her eyes at the girl.
"Will you stop being weird?" Gamora asked and Carol shook her head.
"Why would she have a conversation with Sharon fucking Carter" Natasha asked confused
"Maybe you should ask her...?” the man asked
"Oh shit I think they're coming over here, pretend to be busy," Carol said as she dived back into her salad.
The others do the same as well.
A few moments later the glass door was pulled open by Sharon.
Her smile wide.
"Hey guys" Sharon said as she opened the door and git into the room, wanda following behind-
Probably unaware of her girlfriend's presence until moments later when their eyes met.
Wanda looked like she was about to die.
"Wanda?" Natasha asked. Her eyebrows knitted together.
"Wait, You know each other?" Sharon asked as she turned to the brunette
"Yeah-" she started
"How do you guys know each other" Natasha cut her girlfriend off. Her eyes were still wide with confusion.
"We're cousins" the blonde explained and Wanda bit her lip.
Natasha stared at her girlfriend, hoping to get an explanation from her.
"Wait how do you to know each other"
"She's my girlfriend," Wanda said softly as Natasha got up from her chair.
Sharon's eyes were wide "didn't see that coming" she muttered
"Tell me about that" Natasha said, more to her girlfriend than to her boss.
"I'm going out for a smoke," she said simply before leaving the room.
"Nat-" Wanda started as she followed her, leaving the other remaining members of the room confused.
"Really?" Sharon asked again.
"Well, that was something," sam said and gamora nodded.
"That's classic," Carol said as she quietly laughed to herself
Meanwhile, at the elevator, things were going less smoothly for the couple.
"You're my boss's niece and you didn't think about telling me this?" Natasha shot at Wanda as the elevator door opened and the two went outside.
"I was trying to tell you, nat. I swear. That was the thing I tried to tell you about this whole month But every time I tried to something happened" Wanda explained as Natasha lit her cigarette.
"Why didn't you say anything when we started dating and got to know each other?" Natasha asked.
The lawyer wasn't sure if she was more hurt by the fact Wanda kept this secret from her or terrified by the fact she was dating her boss's niece
"Because I didn't want you to look at me the way you look at me right now" Wanda defended herself.
"How do I look at you wanda?" Natasha asked hurt.
"Like I'm no longer the same artsy girl you met at the bar" Wanda whispered
Natasha laughed bitterly
"Come on Wanda you know I don't give a shit about it. I love you and the fact you're a carter won't change it. You are the same artsy girl from the bar, who happened to be my boss's nephew. You should've said something."
"You're right, I shouldn't have kept this away from you. It was destined to get out eventually and the last thing I ever wanted was to hurt you" Wanda took the cigarette out of Natasha's lips.
"I made a mistake and I can't change it."
Wanda continued and Natasha sigh
"I wanted you to know me, and I was scared you'll judge me or see me as a carter like most people do."
Wanda put her hand on Natasha's cheek and Natasha kissed her palm, encouraging her to continue her speech.
"Fuck, nat, I'm not even in this business- yeah they're my family but that's it. the only other connection I have to this firm is the fact I'm in love with one of its lawyers" Natasha's eyes lit up and Wanda blushed furiously.
"You're in love with me?" Natasha asked as she played pulled her girlfriend closer, A small cocky smile on her lips as Wanda rolled her eyes
"For someone so fucking smart you can be so dense sometimes," Wanda said and Natasha laughed "Of course I do moron."
"I love you too," Natasha said before kissing Wanda softly on the lips.
"Can you forgive me, then?"
"It depends," Natasha said with the best poker straight face she could muster.
"On?" Wanda asked with her eyebrow raised.
"Is there any other relative- who can fire my ass, I need to know about?"
Wanda smiled kissed Natasha's lips deeply.
"No!" She said when they broke away and the two laughed.
Natasha wiped away the younger woman's tears before kissing her lips again. This time softly.
"Good, now if you don't mind maximoff. My break's over and I should really get back before your cousin will fire my ass"
"Well technically.. she's my cousin in law, I'm peggy's grandchild, adopted one, and she's her nephew" Wanda explained
"Can she fire my ass?" Natasha asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Well.. yeah..?"
"Then my point still stands.
"Shut up Romanoff! you and I both know Sharon won't' fire your ass' because you're the best lawyer in this damn place" wanda argued
"Who fucks her cousin..-"
"You're right.. she might fire you" wanda joked and took her girlfriend's hand in hers.
"Or murder me" Natasha continued as her girlfriend pulled her back into the building and to the elevator.
"Yeah" Wanda laughed when they got into the elevator and the doors closed.
Wanda kissed Natasha's lips softly before pressing the button of their destined floor. "Or murder you"

she's her daddy's girl, her momma's world- chapter 3
trick or treat
it's Maya's first holiday, they have to celebrate it properly
Read on AO3
“It’s Maya’s first holiday! It deserves to be celebrated properly! Even if she doesn’t remember it, you will!”
That’s what Jennifer Severide had told Stella over the phone last weekend. A package had been delivered to the loft addressed to Maya and inside was a orange pumpkin bucket filled with pacifiers, baby toys, and candy Maya was nowhere near ready or able to eat. The note inside told them the gift was from Kelly’s mom and he and Stella rolled their eyes. Jennifer had taken to her grandmother role seriously—Maya wasn’t even a month old yet and this was the third care package Jennifer had sent for her.
Kelly and Stella couldn’t blame her though. Maya was easy to love and even easier to spoil.
Jennifer’s excitement and dedication to being a grandmother was also the reason Stella was currently subjecting her three-week-old daughter to a Halloween costume fashion show over FaceTime.
Was it necessary for a newborn to have multiple Halloween costumes? No.
Did that stop Jennifer from buying four different costumes? Definitely not.
Was Maya, wearing a fuzzy white romper with bunny ears on the hood, the cutest thing Stella had ever seen? Absolutely.
“Oh Stella, that’s the one!” Jennifer’s excited voice came through the phone.
The camera was still pointed at Maya so Stella didn’t feel overly guilty about rolling her eyes at her mother-in-law. “She’s three weeks old Jennifer, does she really need a Halloween costume?”
“Come on Stella, look at her! She’s adorable!”
“I agree,” Stella said with a smile. “But it just seems like a lot, especially since I’m the only one who’s going to get to see it.”
“I’m sure her daddy would love to see a picture of her,” Jennifer replied with a smile. A doorbell rang through the phone, followed by muffled conversation. “Trick or treaters are here, I’ve gotta go. Give my grandbaby lots of kisses for me!”
Jennifer ended their call before Stella could say anything else, so she locked the phone and stuck it in her pocket. Stella looked at her daughter and smiled, picking the little girl up. “You do look really cute.”
Stella carried Maya into the living room. After grabbing herself some water and a snack, Stella settled on the couch and got Maya latched on and nursing.
As Maya ate, Stella aimlessly scrolled through social media on her phone. After a few minutes, Stella came across a new post on the Firehouse 51 Instagram—they were giving away candy at the station, calls permitting, and showing off the rigs to the trick-or-treaters in the area. An idea popped into Stella’s head, and she smiled. She knew Jennifer was right, Kelly would love to see a picture of Maya in her costume, but she was going to do one better than just sending him a picture.
Once Maya was done eating, Stella burped and changed her then put her on her playmat for a little bit of tummy time while Stella made herself a quick dinner. Maya was a relatively calm baby, never really crying unless she was hungry or needed changed. However, she absolutely hated tummy time. Hence the banshee-like cries coming from her after just a few seconds of being on her mat.
Stella got to a stopping point in the kitchen and returned to the living room to rescue Maya from that mean playmat.
“Shhhhh,” Stella soothed, gently bouncing and rocking the baby. Maya’s cries lessened once she was picked up, but she was still upset. “Do you want to go see daddy? Show him your cute little costume?”
Just the mention of her daddy calmed Maya instantly, drying her tears and turning her wails into nothing but sporadic whimpers and a hiccup or two. Stella rolled her eyes. “You are such a daddy’s girl.”
With Maya calm again, Stella made her way back into the kitchen to finish dinner. All the while, she playfully ranted to Maya. “One mention of ‘daddy’ and all is right in your world again. What about me, huh? What about mommy? I did carry you for ten months, birth you, AND I feed you whenever you want…but I guess that doesn’t compare to daddy, huh?”
Maya just blinked up at Stella, her blue eyes shining. Stella snorted. “Yeah, he is pretty great.”
Stella scarfed down her dinner one-handed, choosing to keep holding Maya instead of trying to put her down again. Then, Stella changed Maya’s diaper one more time before buckling her into her car seat. Stella grabbed her keys, checked her bag one more time to make sure she had everything Maya might need, and the two headed out towards Firehouse 51.
… … …
Despite the above average number of cars and the normal parking arrangements 51 abided by, Stella had managed to find a parking spot down the block firehouse. As she lifted Maya’s car seat out of the back, she was thankful they’d decided to go with one of the lighter ones. Short walk or not, car seats were heavy and Maya was over 10 pounds now.
Maya had fallen asleep on the car ride over and somehow managed to stay asleep the walk from the car to the firehouse, despite the sounds of the neighborhood.
The sun was just starting to set which meant it was still a little too early for trick-or-treaters and Stella and Maya would have just enough time to visit Kelly.
Stella walked into the station through the open bay doors and made her way to the kitchen and common room. Standing in the doorway, Maya still sleeping peacefully in her car seat, Stella watched the group in front of her. No one had noticed her yet; they were all too deeply invested in and entertained by the ‘best Halloween candy’ argument going on between Mouch and Herrmann and Capp and Tony. She smiled at the banter, realizing just how much she’d missed it since being on maternity leave.
Stella noticed Kelly was not with the others and assumed he was in his quarters so, after another minute or two, she headed across the app floor to the bunkroom. Sure enough, as she entered, Stella saw her husband in his quarters, slumped over his desk working on paperwork. Thankfully his door was open, so Stella walked right up to his office.
“Trick or treat,” Stella sing-songed, with a smile.
Kelly instantly turned to face her, his smile growing when he saw his wife. He got out of his chair and met Stella at the door with a kiss. “Hey, what are you doing here?”
“I saw the Firehouse 51 Instagram posted about passing out candy to trick or treaters and I thought I’d bring Maya by to visit,” Stella said. “You know, celebrate her first Halloween.”
Kelly smirked. “You’ve been talking to my mom, haven’t you?”
Stella laughed. “She called earlier, wanting to see Maya in all of the costumes she sent her. According to Jennifer, her first official holiday deserves to be celebrated even if Maya won’t remember it.”
“Yeah, that sounds like her.”
“Something good did come out of our conversation though,” Stella explained. She walked over to Severide’s bed, placed Maya’s car seat on it and began unbuckling her. The baby had woken up at the lack of motion, so her blue eyes were wide open as Stella lifted her out of the car seat. Stella made sure Maya’s hood was on and the bunny ears could be seen, then turned to show Kelly. “The cutest costume ever.”
Kelly’s smile shifted from one of happiness to one of absolute love. He reached forward and took his daughter from Stella, settling her in his arms. “Hey baby girl, aren’t you the cutest little bunny?”
“She is,” Stella agreed with a smile, stepping closer and booping Maya’s little nose.
Maya gave a small smile at her parents. It was one of her newest developments and it melted Kelly’s and Stella’s hearts each time they saw it.
The Severide family spent a few more minutes in Kelly’s quarters before they made their way back to the common room where the great candy debate was still going on. They went unnoticed as they entered, and Kelly and Stella exchanged amused looks.
“Hey, your first trick-or-treater is here!” Kelly announced to the room. He adjusted Maya’s position so she was propped against his chest, bunny costume on full display.
The others turned their attention to the Lieutenant and were instantly gushing over the sight of Maya in her costume.
Brett was the first to grab the baby, taking Maya in her arms with just a quick “hey Stella!” thrown over her shoulder.
Most of the others, who weren’t fast enough to beat Sylvie to the baby, gathered around to catch up with Stella, knowing they’d have to wait a while to see the baby. It was a well-known fact that Casey and Brett loved their goddaughter and were more than willing to pull rank in order to hold her first.
Everyone did get to hold her though and by the time Stella left the firehouse almost an hour later, she realized that Jennifer was right. Maya’s first Halloween did deserve to be celebrated, and spending the evening surrounded by people who loved her seemed to be a perfect way to do it.

see, it's not like steve's ever been good at coping.
it's bad after starcourt, but instead of dealing with it then steve just puts everything into healing others. he comforts eleven, stays on the phone all night with lucas or dustin, helps will learn not to fear the cold, gives billy a shoulder to cry on and a place to live.
and so billy gets a front-row seat to steve's self-destruction.
he doesn't think it's his place to speak, initially, but he does worry when steve leaves early in the afternoon and comes back wasted, bruises on his throat and traces of powder on his clothes. some weekends he doesn't come home, he goes to indianapolis and shows up late sunday evening with a massive hangover and billy just gets him to eat and drink a little before getting him in bed. steve's not eating enough, he's losing weight and billy worries because this is his best friend, not even heather matches their level. and steve's done so much good for him but he doesn't know how to return the favor - not until steve barrels out of the bathroom one night shaking like a leaf, tears streaming down his face. billy takes one look inside, catches sight of two life-changing sticks, and rushes out after him.
and it's then, when he finds steve out by the quarry in a panic, that he knows how to help.
"i didn't mean to get pregnant," steve sniffles, and the moment billy crouches next to him the brunette is shuffling closer, scared and in need of comfort. and billy's still working on the physical thing, learning it's okay to be affectionate, but he doesn't hesitate to hold steve as close as he can.
"i know," he murmurs. "it's okay. we'll figure it out. you aren't doing this alone, you hear me?" and initially billy thinks he's fucked up because steve starts crying again, but when this round of sobs passes the other boy gives him a shaky smile.
"you promise?"
"cross my heart and all that shit." and that's just it. whatever steve needs, billy's got him.
steve initially doesn't want to go through with it, but decides ultimately it could be a good thing. he's thought about parenthood before, always wondered if he could be a better father than his own. this is a chance to prove it. and billy gives him all the support in the world. nobody messes with the only child of the harrington family, they can't afford the fallout, but he's always gotten dirty looks after coming out and they get worse now that he's pregnant. but billy follows him everywhere now amd anyone who gives him a look has to face the blonde's anger. and sure, he's not where he once was. he's still putting on muscle and learning to use his hands again, but half of what makes billy hargrove scary is the way he presents himself, the glare that suggests he knows people won't mess with him. and they don't, amd they don't mess with steve either for the same reason.
and when billy isn't around to do the protecting, steve's got others. joyce has kicked people out of melvad's before, for harassing a fifteen year-old steve. and five years later she still does it, voice calm and eyes steely. claudia is at every appointment he has, making sure the other nurses and doctors call him by the right name and pronouns. she's there when steve sees the baby's hand for the first time and has a breakdown because he's growing a whole person and doesn't know if he'll really be able to take care of them.
and claudia, she remembers being confused and a little judgemental when steve came out as steve, but that was before she caught him shuffling down the aisles of the library one day, small and clearly anxious about everyone he came across. thirteen year-old steve had lacked the easy confidence he sported now, and it was when she saw him that it sort of clicked. she didn't understand how someone could be a gender other than the one they were born as, but she made a point to greet him as steve any time she saw him and made an effort to accept him. now he's like the older son she never had, dustin's big brother, and when he weeps frantically over the daunting trial of parenthood she takes him by the shoulders and gives him the most serious look she can muster.
"nobody is ever ready for parenthood," she tells him, and one hand comes to wipe his tears away. "but you have exactly the heart for this job. you're going to be the best father in this whole town."
which steve doesn't agree with. the best dad in town is hopper.
hopper, who's been harassing people for harassing steve for years, but is more aggressive about it now because steve really means something to him now. sometimes, eleven calls him her brother, and hop figures, yeah, the kid could use a dad. so he makes a habit of checking up on him, and it gets more frequent now because he's also checking on billy, and with a baby on the way hopper's protectiveness is at an all-time high. nobody wants to fuck with the chief, so no one fucks with steve.
when the harringtons find out, steve's dad is livid, but it's steve's mother who keeps him from lashing out. the couple can't stand the blow to their social life and so it's off to lansing for them, a fresh start or whatever. the house stays under their name, though, and steve and billy make it theirs. the cosy master bedroom becomes steve's, billy finally decorates the guest room downstairs as his own. his mother calls sort of regularly, she's not thrilled about the situation but she's eager for a grandbaby to spoil, and steve counts that as a blessing.
of course, the party freaks out when steve announces his pregnancy. it's not like they didn't know steve could get pregnant, but they've never considered the idea that he would. eleven, max, and will are immediately thrilled, discussing baby names and wanting to pat his belly - especially el, who's never really experienced a pregnancy. mike and lucas are a little weirded out, but mike brings steve a bunch of baby books left over from holly and lucas donates his own old toys, declaring that baby harrington was going to be the coolest baby ever if he got to help look out for the little one. dustin doesn't know how to feel initially, which stresses steve out, but when someone throws a slur at steve three weeks after that dustin flips out, yells himself hoarse at the fucker, and declares himself steve and the baby's most ardent protector. the whole group has already discussed babysitting schedules and, yeah, maybe steve did cry about it, but he's pregnant and it was probably the hormones and not anything else, thank you.
robin gently berates him about sleeping with strangers out of town when she finds out, but after that she takes her position as aunt very seriously. within four weeks she buys three outfits, five stuffed animals, and a french record to help the baby learn the language.
"no such thing as too early," she says as she drops it on the dresser in steve's old room. the new nursery.
it's a labor of love, mostly by billy. woodworking is a big help with his hands so he was all too happy to make a crib himself. again, steve cried, but this time he feels it's justified. billy's put a rocking chair in too, and a record player too - "your taste in music is shit," he'd deadpanned as he brought the thing in. "someone's gotta culture the little snot." amd billy does that all the time, he's called the baby a snot, a turd, a little shit, all that jazz. but his face is softer than it's ever been and that makes steve smile every single time.
steve's labor of love starts five weeks early, much to his horror, and it hurts like a bitch. he gives birth early in the morning after a rainy night. she's a little replica of steve, down to the moles on her cheek, and he doesn't think he's ever known love until he looks at his daughter and feels the almost painful swell in his chest. he cries as he hugs her against his chest and swears on his life he'll do right by this wondrous little girl. her name is nikita - no, not after the elton john song, though later when she asks that's what he tells her, just so she can throw her head back and groan, "daaad!"
no, she's named after his grandmother. and she gets rosaline for a middle name after billy's mother. because, even if they didn't say it, it's clear billy intends to co-parent. he doesn't call it that, he just says he's helping a friend, but he's the one who changes her diaper at night and bounces her to sleep listening to metallica and teaches her to eat spaghetti.
and originally, he's the one she calls dad.
first it's baba, which steve thinks is in reference to the fact that billy bottlefeeds her, and billy thinks it's similar enough to "billy" to not be anything more than that. but she gets older and learns to say billy and steve, and still calls him baba. baba and papa. and to the outside world it makes sense, they're a little family, steve and billy ooze a chemistry anyone else can't deny. but it takes them three extra years to get with the program and become a couple.
to this day, niki claims there aren't more clueless people out than her dads when it comes to love.
