Phil walks out of his house to find two new crows have joined the murder. They're clearly fledglings, smaller than the other crows with some baby feathers still stuck to them. These two have paler feathers than the rest, still black but light enough to almost be grey, and beaks and legs of eggshell white, as if they're partially albino. Phil keeps an eye on them, to check they're merging well with the murder, but the other crows all treat them as if they've always been there, as friendly as they treat the rest of the murder. The pair are never far apart, seeming to instinctively know where the other is at all times. If Phil finds one, he can usually spot the other if he looks around.

One of them loves pumpkins and potatoes, and always flies off to the farms whenever Phil goes to a village to eat any potato crops it can find. Early on, during an exploring session, Phil finds it shredding a pumpkin with its beak and talons, covered in orange gunk. Phil refuses to let it inside the house until it has taken a bath (this does not deter the crow from doing it again). Eventually he just hollows out a pumpkin and leaves it outside his house, where the pair build a nest in it.

The other loves flowers, especially poppies. Phil often finds it sitting or sleeping in flower patches. Often it will bring him the flowers it finds, dropping them on his head if he doesn't notice it offering them politely. One time he takes the offered poppy and ties it around the crow's leg. It seems to like that.

idk if someone already thought of this and this is also probably the most obvious reading of it but here i go anyway: i was just walking a dog and listening to potato prints and when phil said "you've come a long way daniel" i was like "huh phil is in the teaching position in all of these just like he was for youtube" like phil just gives editing pro tips the whole time and it all parallels their story as a youtube duo.

and obviously the entertainment industry is rife (not proper usage of that word but it Feels Right so fuck you) with satanic symbolism/imagery/iconography/motifs. being an entertainer is "selling your soul to the devil" etc etc and we know dan hates being a youtuber and does feel that way. you gotta upload twice a day every day in order to be the number one art channel on youtube dot com after all. you gotta make those crafts for satan. bo burnham has a ton of lyrics/songs that i'm thinking about rn like "you used to do comedy when you felt like being funny but now you're contractually obligated so dance you fucking monkeeeey DANCE MONKEY DAAAANCE" and in "repeat stuff" which is a commentary of how mainstream pop love songs and pop stars have to be really superficial and unoriginal because they need to appeal to everyone and at one point he sucks satan off lmao and is like AHFRUEHQFWIIO I AM A VESSEL IDUSHISKA 666 KAJSDFI ILLUMINATI UIGDFSAHIO FREEMASONS. highly recommend looking at the lyrics to that song if you're into that kind of thing.

also the (very rightful) dig at phannies for the "don't cry craft" spamming like "we love all of our crafty audience that spread the message of this channel on all the other videos on the internet! everywhere! everybody enjoyed that!" is how creators who want to keep status have to address their audiences no matter how annoying or harmful they're being. thinking of the ajr line "stay out of politics, stay on the fence / stay out of all of it to keep half your fans" because like,, yeah if a creator ever expresses an opinion that declares their feelings on one side of an issue then they will lose support (smosh is a perfect example of a bunch of people never ever ever expressing an opinion if it could be considered controversial among their audience, like refusing to address the genocide happening right now and just taking their zionist member who the fans are mad at out of some videos to be like "shhhhh nothing to see here we don't know what you're talking about"), ESPECIALLY if that issue is the behaviour of their audience.

obviously the first dapc video was not made with any intended meaning, they just woke up and were like "let's be weird and freak people out" and they did that, and then adding in symbolism and making it all mean something developed with time. but i'm gonna pretend that it has always had consistent meaning because i'm neurodivergent and love overanalysing silly little media.

Just some late night thoughts.

For some reason January 21 is a special day in many ways for Missa Cubito…

Missa death in MCExtremo. In that series he had great character development, at first he was just a scared baby who didn't know the world, everyone had to take care of him, because with the slightest carelessness he would die (literally, they were distracted for a second and Missa looked at an ender and died, because he "did not know what it was"). He spent the first few days very scared, locked up at home, until after dying and reviving due to a bug, he decided that it was time to live that life to the fullest and decided to leave his crib and go out to face danger. He learned to fight being trained by none other than Spreen and Shadoune, learned to water bucket clutch with Rubius and became brave when facing mobs (sometimes recklessly). His new way of approaching life scared Q (it even cost him a life to him to this one) but for Missa it was very effective, because after losing practically 3 lives in 2 days being a scared guy, he managed to survive until day 5 with his brave attitude (even if he survived that day, he was able to reach the final) he was so full of confidence when fighting and decided that now that he was no longer the smallest of the team he was going to protect his friends, especially Q, who was the fearful one of the group now… and that's how he took too many risks and ended up dying, being something very shocking not only for his team but for everyone in the series and for the viewers, really, Twitter was flooded with fanarts and people crying about his death (even Missa said that an aunt called him because she thought something had happened in the real life).

That was very important because before that series almost no one knew Missa Cubito, he was just "the guy who died too quickly in Dedsafio" or "The funny guy who hopefully managed to get too far in siqud craft games". But in those 5 days (5 days of consecutive streams, it was heaven for the missaurios), he won over the internet with the story of his growth and death (Even today people say that the best thing about that series was having the "team vacio legal" and Missa was the heart of that team). I think that was the moment when Missa cubito separated from Missa Youtuber and became her own character.

But that was a sad day, because that day Missa Cubito lost the first family he had found.

Llegamos al día de hoy.

Missa wakes up in the QSMP prison and reunites with his family, it was the first time that Missa, Philza and Chayanne were together at the same time since April. Not only that, but he now officially adopts Tallulah as his daughter. Despite the adverse circumstances, his family has finally been reunited and grown (although Missa already considered Tallulah his daughter, now it is official and she calls him dad).

Despite being another universe, Missa is still the kind boy who wins everyone's hearts. Missa behaved politely with the guards, being mannerly when referring to them by saying "please and thank you" and greeting everyone very kindly.

He was very nice with the eggs, even with the ones he didn't know, and he refused to hit Dapper even though he was hitting him, Missa just said: "I'm never going to hit you or do anything to hurt you."

Missa was very happy to spend time with Phil, when he spent a long time losing sight of him, he would ask where he was and look for him.

The moment of the kiss (or the kisses) was something WTF I really didn't think that one day they would kiss and definitely I imagined many scenaries, but in no way I believed it would be that way, but that's what makes it special. They are not an ordinary couple, whether platonic or whatever they called it, whatever they have is special and I guess that was a special way for it to happen. Phil probably would never have dared to ask him to kiss him in another context and that's fine, because it seems like that would be the only way for it to happen (even if they both wanted it, I don't think it would have happened in another context).

It is worth mentioning that the moments of Philza being jealous and him reaffirming that he was married and being loyal to him was something I really didn't expect. After so much time apart, they still have that unique dynamic.

The day in prison was filled with so many things, but I can say that for the first time in a long time, Missa felt fully loved, not only by being with his children and his husband, but also by all those friendly interactions he was with others and that he could not have before on the island, because the first days he was extremely shy and did not separate himself from Roier and the friends he knew and after he only connected sporadically, meeting Foolish, BBH and rarely Philza.

Something curious that Missa Himself mentioned was that the previous times he was with Phil it was more of "ohh I miss you" but they didn't amount to anything more and today he was very happy because they were able to hang out together and do more things bonding with his family.

When he and Chay freed the turtle it was adorable, then the 4 of them doing the tasks, that was a unique moment and he was very happy singing for his family (being so nervous that he forgot the words to his own songs).

His bond with Phil strengthened and they didn't have to do much, that simple moment of the two of them talking about tacos and memes was something very cozy that they needed to do a long time ago. Just as the moment when they took the children for a walk with the llamas was something so sweet for this family that they almost forgot that they were in a prison, because it seemed more like a picnic in the park.

It really was a great advance, probably what happened today will help Missa a lot to grow and leave his self-esteem problems behind. He is important, he is loved and he is useful to his family.

Missa was a trend today, as it was last year, but the big difference is that this was a happy day because somehow, today he got his family back, that big family that he hadn't had in a long time and that he wanted so much and deserved.

Okay you guys know what? I have a theory hope for Bolas Rojas post-purgatory and I am thinking about it too hard to keep it in my head any longer.

I hope team bolas stays inseparable once they're back on Quesadilla Island and I hope it makes them worse. Most of them were pretty much at the end of their ropes before this, and I hope they go right back there. I hope their new bizarre intense packbond doesn't bring them back at all. Imagine, if you will:

Cellbit is just as directionlessly angry and team bolas only supports him in this. He keeps killing Fed workers in a fugue state and now he just has 5 people willing to hide evidence end anyone who accuses him.

Phil is still paranoid and hypervigilant and questioning his perception. All that changes is that he now has 5 people who'll help reinforce his various bunkers and prevent anyone else from attempting some kind of wellness check. (I hope they encourage him to pick targets of his fear and anger and go after them)

Charlie goes right back to Codeflippa, more aware on some level that she's not his daughter but not willing to let go. Team bolas knows she's definitely not his daughter, but after Purgatory who are they to deny him a coping mechanism? Anybody who so much as implies that he should get rid of Codeflippa faces their wrath.

Foolish and Jaiden feel much less alone (their arcs are both kinda intrinsically helped by having even the least helpful of ride-or-die companions lmao) but still try to find purpose in Federation work. Jaiden tries to cling to normalcy by her friendship with Cucurucho. And yeah, this is totally at odds with the others' alignments and politics (especially Cellbit and Codeflippa), but since when did team bolas care about consistency? They're here to help these two complete missions and keep anybody from questioning them ever.

I don't know enough to speculate on Baghera's or Carre's arcs, but you get the drift by now--I hope team bolas enables them to become their worst selves, etc. (Anybody with info/ideas on the potential consequences of Purgatory for them please let me know!)

Concept:

You know those fics where a member of the DSMP ends up in Hermitcraft? And there's, like, lots of angst and healing and stuff?

Well, what if that happened to Technoblade.

Like, how would he even react to being on a server like that? Would he try and make a build to fit in, only to give up after realizing he has no idea what he's doing? And then calling Phil because, like, what else are you supposed to do in that situation?

He learns what elytra are and is just. Trying so hard to use them. But eventually he gives up and goes back to obsessively breeding horses.

Bdubs vs. Techno. Battle of the political ideologies. Absolutely no one wins (especially not all the other hermits who have to deal with the fallout).

I feel like he'd be bros with Etho. They just give off similar vibes.

Techno tries to prank people, but just ends up violating the Geneva convention multiple times.

He completely ignores any kind of aesthetics and makes his base out of player heads. Why? No one knows.

A valiant attempt at redstone is made. Many lives are lost in the process. The hermits agree to do his redstone for free, just to avoid anything like that ever happening again.

I’ve already done music recommendations so, you can check out these posts (playlists and list of artists) if you’re looking for that specifically. But Wilbur made a lot of content over the years and idk, i figured I’d make a a list of recommendations for similar content to fill that void as well :)

Minecraft SMP’s (specifically DSMP)

The same SMP’s but other POV’s — I’ll just start with this cos it’s the most iffy. There’s plenty of enjoyment to be had with these fandoms still, and I personally don’t think we need to let the actions of a couple shitty guys ruin the silly Minecraft roleplay we all enjoy. That said, if you aren’t comfy watching these anymore that’s perfectly valid as well, especially since Wilbur’s character will be lurking around in the background of plenty of these. But yeah, we can also uplift other creators by watching the fun stories they made, especially those who got buried by bigger creators at the time. So Dream SMP, QSMP, Origins SMP, SMP earth, SMPlive all have content you can enjoy.

Different, completely unrelated SMP’s — hermitcraft, the life series, empires SMP (shubble was involved in this one, I’m planning on watching her POV when I find some time) etc. I’ve had plenty of people recommend these to me before, from what I’ve seen they’re very enjoyable :)

Hamilton — not even joking, if you enjoyed the L’manberg era of DSMP and you didn’t watch Hamilton, I’d heartily recommend it. Great music, lots of politics but all in a fun and silly way, also tragic endings!

Generation Loss — Ranboo’s very awesome Horror project that they’ve been working very hard on!!! Ranboo’s been teasing new content lately as well so that’s exciting

Analog horror series — Local 58, Gemini Home Entertainment, Mandela Catalog, Kane Pixel’s Backrooms videos, etc. All very good and spooky videos, definetely an inspiration for Gen Loss, and I know Wilbur enjoyed this content as well (though the editor Wilbur arg predates a lot of this genre) those are some of the biggest on YouTube atm, and some of my personal favourites, but there’s plenty more to find (I recommend channels like Nightmind and Nexpo who do analysis videos for all this horror and ARG stuff if you wanna find more)

Marble Hornets — gets its own category! One of the original analog horror genres (predated the genre actually) it’s basically one of the biggest and most comprehensive Slenderman series out there. There’s a LOT of content here and lots of lore and mystery (though a lot of the game clues have been lost to time) (Jack Manifold also reacted to this on stream, it was very chill and good fun)

Horror podcasts — Magnus Archives and Magnus Protocol, Malevolent and Archive 81 are some of my favourites, but there’s plenty more out there to find and enjoy :). Also very spooky with lots of mystery to involved, the Magnus Protocol is very new as well so great time to get into that!

Just Chatting / Geoguessr / other chill content

Geoguessr streamers / YouTubers — honestly I genuinely didn’t watch much geoguessr content outside of Wilbur’s streams so, I don’t have many recommendations here. I know Eret has been doing geoguessr streams lately and their content is very good and chill. Jacksuckatlife plays as well and last I watched he was fairly good at it (like similar skill level to Wilbur), otherwise Rainbolt is a geoguessr legend, he terrifies me a little ngl.

Other streamers — I think the thing with the just chatting streams is that we watch for *that specific streamer’s* personality. It’s hard to really make recommendations other than just saying go watch more of the streamers you enjoy. Personally I enjoy Phil’s hardcore streams, and Sneegsnag’s Crime Time the most, but there’s plenty of other people both in this MCYT space and outside of it that you’ll probably enjoy :)

Sorry boys (unlike horror I don’t watch much comedy so, sorry, this’ll be lacking)

Just Roll With It — Charlie Slimecicle’s DND podcast. I’ve only listened to a little bit of this but it’s really good and REALLY silly (oh, and emotional sometimes, gotta have a bit of angst y’know) Wilbur was a guest on a couple of episodes, but you can always skip past those if you want.

Tommy’s videos — so Wilbur features in a lot of the early vlogs and *minecraft but* videos, but Tommy’s content has always been good fun, his recent stuff is excellent as well! He’s been doing a lot of comedy content lately, specifically a live show so definitely check that out if you want :)

Smosh pit — not something I’ve watched a lot of, but I’ve seen clips of their try not to laugh videos and they’re definitely on par with the bat shit improv you get from Sorry Boys.

Game changer — again, not something I’ve watched much, mostly consumed through osmosis, but the show is funny, the cast is always silly and it’s a lot of fun all round

Whatever else Sorry Boys make after this — judging by some of the responses to Wilbur’s “statement” I think it’s fair to assume if Sorry Boys do continue making content Wilbur will be cut from the group. Of course don’t feel obligated to stick around if you don’t want to, but Wilbur won’t be compensated if he’s kicked and the rest of the guys are still fun :)

YLYL and similar goofy stuff

Just… other streamers again — Jack Manifold does YLYL streams with his friends. James Marriott does a lot of reaction videos as well, sometimes YLYL, sometimes reacting to content his viewers send in (like TikTok’s and break up texts), those are my favourites atm.

YouTubers — that niche between video essay and reaction content, people like Danny Gonzales, Drew Gooden, Kurtis Conner, Pinely, all good fun YouTube channels that make good, silly, and easy to consume content.

Other gaming streamers and YouTubers — Slimecicle, Ranboo, Games Grumps, RT games, and SneegSnag all play a wide variety of games, they’re all relatively chill but none of them take the games all that seriously either so it’s fun and goofy as well :)

And of course Fanfiction!!!

I might be a little bias here cos I write myself but fic is created by and for fans and it exists to give you even *more* content about the stories you love, whether it be reimagining canon events or just dumping your favourite characters into a silly au.

I know a lot of authors (myself included) are feeling super conflicted and weird about writing Wilbur in the future. Plenty of authors have been moving onto new fandoms so if you find something you enjoy make sure you check out the author’s other work and who knows, maybe you’ll find some cool new fandoms that way!

And do the same for artists and other creators, or even go check out some of your mutuals fandoms, you guys might have more in common than you originally thought!

Seeing all the discourse of some of the qsmp followers not being able to stay in their lane with regard to the eggs and the (political) roleplay, reminds me of why I mostly watch Philza.

If you are not a Phil watcher, you need to understand that he moderates his chat very strongly. He has blacklisted certain words and phrases (both problematic ones and ones that just got over annoying over time, even his own channel's funny bits). If you are spamming, chat hopping, meta-gaming, or backseating, make no mistake, he will ban or tim you out. He also moderates his friend's streams like Tubbo and Niki, so if you get banned or he sees you behaving badly on his friend's streams, you are not only banned on his but also on their channels.

If chat is still misbehaving with all this in place, he either puts it in subscribers or emotes only for some time till viewers behave again.

With Philza being away for the week, I have been watching some other qsmp creators, and tbh, I could not watch some of their streams because their chat was way out of control. Especially during lore/roleplay moments.

I am of the opinion that some of the streamers should be more strict with their moderation of chat, for their and everyone else enjoyment, and just get off Twitter entirely.

Moreover, viewers, don't tell the ccs what to do, just enjoy the content they provide. That was my two cents on this whole situation.

Of All The Things You Could Have Done (Why?)

Summary:

Techno absolutely refused to pick up the child. He came into the room like Philza had pleaded, he met them, he wanted to go to his room and debate his life… intimately… maybe he would move out, let Kristin deal with her eccentric husband while Techno’s life went back to normal. But what was normal? Waking up, going to work at a nine-to-five to just barely make rent of an apartment? Nevermind trying to feed himself? Techno was bulkier, especially in the chest-shoulder’s area from his highschool years. He took in calories like a bodybuilder, though Techno was a measly librarian at an elementary school. He felt another wave of that buzz again, a glance telling him that Purpled was still trying to get Techno to pick them up. Techno picked up his book instead, one hundred percent intending to ignore Purpled.

Techno sometimes had to stop and think to ask himself ‘What is my life?’ nearly four times a day. Though, maybe four was an exaggeration, because while his life was… certainly interesting, living with a Goddess of Death and her Angel of Death Husband.

Kristin was lovely, and well adjusted to human life, which Techno was thankful for. She often talked with him about art, and Techno knew that she was interested in going into either college for art and teaching… or politics.

Techno would amuse himself by pondering what the world would look like with a Goddess, known or not, as their leader. Especially the Goddess of Death, who really wants people to stop dying for ‘stupid ass’ reasons.

Techno had to agree with her.

But then there was Philza, who was once human and should have been the well adjusted one between him and his wife… However, Philza often forgot, or nearly forgot, to hide his wings. They weren’t in the Void, which was his wife’s domain, therefore Philza absolutely had to hide his wings. Techno knew the winged one hated it. Something about it dampening his connection with his wife, which Techno didn’t understand in the slightest.

And that was just the start of it.

There were things that Techno never thought he would have to tell Phil, or remind him of. Examples included, but not limited to, were: “No, you can’t use coffee in replacement of milk… No, don't use water either!” and “Phil… Phil… No, taking an unattended child is called kidnapping and we could get in serious trouble.” were the most often Techno had found himself saying.

Surprisingly, “Philza… Laws exist for a reason. No you cannot speed, and flying isn’t allowed either. Killing is called Murder, not a phone call to your wife while she’s doing her deity things.” was one that he was surprised about having to tell Philza, someone who was all about rules… apparently to an extent if he thought they were particularly stupid or dumb.

Techno sometimes regretted befriending ‘Angel’, as Techno would call him when he was particularly annoyed with Philza, at times. Other’s he was just thankful, because the amount of people thinking he came from ‘old money’ and thus have tried to rob or mug him was nearly reaching triple digits. Philza had a way of ‘teleporting’ or something to Techno the moment he felt that Techno was in danger.

It would have been amusing had it not also startled him every damn time Philza just appeared while Techno was cornered to some degree. He once thought that Philza stalked him when he was out of the house, but no.

Techno didn’t know which he would have preferred.

Though, Techno wondered if the ‘icing on the cake’ of instances that Techno wondered what life choices had led his life to becoming so… chaotic was definitely a word for it… Despite knowing exactly which one… Would have been the time Philza had brought home a child that was most definitely not of the human world… or the deity side of things either.

How Philza had found an alien baby, much less two, was beyond Techno.

“Phil.” Techno stopped as he stared at the two… toddlers… sitting in the living room. Techno hesitated to call them toddlers, given that they seemed a tad bit younger than even a year old, and the antennae coming from their hairline definitely made Techno weary even thinking about going near them.

The two ‘toddlers’ also both had tails and seemingly fang like teeth, at least the one had two fangs poking out from their mouth. Techno was sure the one had claws that looked too sharp for going anywhere near, while the other had razor sharp feathers seemingly protecting their ears.

If that one grew wings, Techno was absolutely never letting Philza leave the house ever again. If he wants to stretch his wings, he can absolutely go visit his wife instead of just flying around the property that Kristin had helped Techno purchase. Something he refused to ask her as to how it happened.

And his friend was casually playing with the both of them like they were human. Cooing at them, which did earn him giggles from the two children. Though, Techno’s voice had attracted the attention of both children, who looked nearly identical… other than the aforementioned traits Techno had already picked out earlier.

He was unnerved by their eyes, both of which were glowing in the now dimming light of the house.

“Techno! Mate! Come here, come here!” Philza brightened up when his eyes landed on Techno. Techno made a face as he looked at Philza, electing to ignore the two… babies… Techno would call them babies for now.

“Philza.” Philza pouted at Techno, probably sensing that Techno was not as thrilled as he was. “What-how-Why?” Techno ran his hands over his face; exasperation and fondness fighting to be the main emotion that Techno was feeling. “Philza.”

“Techno, come here.” Philza uttered again, “Come meet them!” Techno only continued to stare with a deadpan expression, and his friend continued to pout. Techno didn’t know if it was the fondness for his friend, the other thousand crazy situations that Techno had ended up in because of his friend, or the cooing of the babies… but he sighed as he started walking forward.

Philza’s expression lit up, and Techno sighed as he moved to his chair, the one piece of furniture that Techno had reserved for only him. He was the only one allowed to sit in it, which Kristin and Philza both respected.

“This is Tommy, and this is Purpled!” Philza introduced the babies, both who were staring unnervingly at Techno. Neither were blinking, either. Techno stared back at the two of them with a raised eyebrow. “Tommy, Purpled,” Both babies looked at Philza when he said their names. Techno pretended that didn’t unnerve him as much as it did. “This is Techno, a very good friend of mine.”

Techno wondered if maybe, for their species, they were much older than Techno thought. Because it almost looked like the two had communicated somehow before looking back at Techno. The one with purple eyes, Purpled, moved to crawl towards him. The one with blue eyes, Tommy, fell back and giggled when Philza caught him, a hand having already been moving out to catch the swaying baby.

Techno, feeling a small and utterly tiny hand on his ankle, looked down, sighing internally as he saw that Purpled had crawled their way to Techno and was touching him hesitantly. It seemed that they didn’t quite know what to make of Techno; which was a shared sentiment.

There was a mental buzz that Techno felt, and he could have sworn that there was some sort of voice ushering Techno to pick up Purpled. He figured that’s how they communicated, maybe that was how they communicated with Philza. Techno ignored the voice, and Purpled got teary eyed, leaning against Techno’s shin.

Techno absolutely refused to pick up the child. He came into the room like Philza had pleaded, he met them, he wanted to go to his room and debate his life… intimately… maybe he would move out, let Kristin deal with her eccentric husband while Techno’s life went back to normal.

But what was normal?

Waking up, going to work at a nine-to-five to just barely make rent of an apartment? Nevermind trying to feed himself? Techno was bulkier, especially in the chest-shoulder’s area from his highschool years. He took in calories like a bodybuilder, though Techno was a measly librarian at an elementary school.

He felt another wave of that buzz again, a glance telling him that Purpled was still trying to get Techno to pick them up. Techno picked up his book instead, one hundred percent intending to ignore Purpled.

The wave of absolute sadness had a deep sigh escaping Techno through his nose, even as his eyes darted to Philza. Why hadn’t Philza said anything recently? Techno was annoyed to find Philza just… not there. Neither was the other child, which told Techno it probably had something to do with the other child. There was, seemingly, a sniffle of some kind from Purpled, and Techno could absolutely not believe he was being manipulated by a baby.

“What is my life?” Techno sighed, glancing down at Purpled. He set his book back off to the side, reaching down and picking Purpled up by the back of their onesie, when had Philza had time to go baby clothes shopping? Techno swore that if Kristin had anything to do with that, Techno would riot. No more cooking for them, they would have to figure it out themselves.

Knowing Kristin, she probably already knew how to cook too.

“Only this time.” Techno muttered, letting the baby lay on his chest as he reclined in his recliner, barely reaching behind him to grab the blanket to drape over the both of them. Techno could feel that Purpled was feeling smug, and doubting the ‘only this time’ from Techno.

Techno ignored the wave of emotions he could feel from Purpled, letting the baby settle in the crook of his arm, a blanket just about holding Purpled in place with the crook of Techno’s arm. Techno moved and grabbed his book again. He had been wanting to read this book for several months but something kept interrupting him every time.

He’d successfully gotten one chapter in the last attempt, but Techno started over and quietly read out loud to Purpled. He wasn’t sure if Purpled would understand the story, or half the words, but Purpled settled down, and at some point, fell asleep.

“Aweh, mate!” Techno had just reached the end of the chapter, so he glanced up at his friend and raised an eyebrow. Standing just behind him was Kristin, who was holding Tommy and smiling softly at Techno.

“I have three,” Techno paused, checking how many chapters he had left. “I have four chapters left of my book. Go away.” Techno waved the two off, glancing down at Purpled who was sleepily blinking; one hand was raised and resting on Techno’s chest, clutching at Techno’s shirt.

Kristin snorted, even as Philza’s jaw dropped slightly.

“Techno, Purpled needs to eat.” Kristin told him, Techno paused from where he’d tried to start reading again.

“And currently he’s napping, so therefore I am reading the book that I have been trying to read for nearly five months. I have four chapters left.” Techno told them, restarting the chapter and deciding to ignore his friends. Purpled sighed, his hand relaxing from how tightly he’d been gripping Techno’s shirt.

Faintly, he could hear Kristin laughing as Philza sputtered.

“He didn’t even want to enter the room before!”

“Seems like he likes Purpled, though.”

Techno slouched a little further in his chair, sighing slightly as he flipped a page in his book.

Techno could and would complain all he liked about his friend and his eccentrics’. But Techno would never ask Phil to change… much. He cherished his friend, and he cherished his friendship with Kristin. Techno wouldn’t change any-much, Techno wouldn’t change much about his life.

Your heels clicked through the empty hallways of the Shadow base as you made your way to your boyfriend's office. Rounding a corner you stumbled back almost bumping into two of the Shadows. 

“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry,” you immediately apologized, even though it wasn't entirely your fault. 

“No need to apologize, ma’am, where are you headed? Maybe we can help you?” one of the boys spoke up, he was trying to be polite in asking why you were on base. You and Phillip kept things pretty lowkey so you didn't expect anyone to know you just off first glance. 

“I’m just heading to Phillip’s office, I wouldn't mind the escort though,” you smiled widely at the group.

The shorter of the two chimed in, “The Commander? What’s the reason for the meeting?”

The military lingo made you giggle considering you were just bringing your boyfriend lunch. You eyed the boys and then looked down at the bag you were carrying. You tipped it open so they could see the aluminum-covered plates and water bottles. “Just lunch, better hurry though I wouldn't want it to get cold,” you began to walk past them before they jogged ahead of you to escort you to the Commander’s office. 

As you approached you shot Phillip a quick text letting him know you had some company joining you. The boys knocked on the door as you all waited for Graves to open it up. 

“Well looks like the two of you met my girlfriend already, c’mon in,” Phillip laughed as he leaned against the door. Both Shadows walked in first leaving you in the hallway. 

“Phil.” you smiled taking him in, it had been a few weeks since you had seen him. He was in casual clothes, sporting a bulletproof vest on top of his classic button-up. He was prepared for anything at all times. He smiled back, he was still the same Phillip, handsome as ever. You noticed a new scar on his face, extending from his ear down across his cheek. Your hand cupped his cheek as you thumbed over the scar frowning. “What happened?” you pouted.

“Don’t worry about it darlin’, I’m alright,” he opened his arms up, “I missed you, c’mere,”  pulling you in for a hug and placing a kiss on your head. Your arms wrapped around his torso, taking a deep breath and feeling at home within his grasp. A cough from one of the Shadows brought the both of you back to reality. Graves laughed as he placed a small kiss on your lips before shutting the door behind you. 

“Hope these boys didn't give you too much trouble,” his hand rested on the small of your back as he escorted you to his chair behind his desk, only the best seat for you. Without having to even ask, Phillip slipped the bag of food out of your hands and onto the desk, being the doting boyfriend had become second nature to him. 

“Only doing what you taught them,” you winked over at the Shadows who sat on the couch opposite the desk, you could tell they were nervous, especially seeing their Commander in such a relaxed way. 

You leaned back in the chair, Phillip coming up behind you. His hands rested on your shoulders slowly massaging them as he leaned down close to your ear, “You need anythin’ doll?”

“I’m perfect thank you,” you smiled up at him before placing a quick kiss on his lips.

“Commander, we don't want to interrupt anymore, we can head out,” the two Shadows stood up apprehensively. 

“Aw, you boys sure? I brought enough food,” your hand went to rest on Phillip’s which was still on your shoulder. Your eyes flickered between the Shadows and the food and then back at Phillip, silently hoping he would back up your offer. You didn't get to visit the base often, so you wanted to leave a good impression and you hoped Graves would help you out. 

“I don’t wanna hold you both hostage here, go ‘head,” he motioned to the door allowing the pair to leave, “I’ll see you both at the briefing later,” you rolled your eyes sarcastically as Graves shut the door, leaving the two of you alone.

“So much for getting to know them,” you laughed as you cracked open a water bottle. 

“Sue me for wanting to spend time with my lovely girlfriend then,” he chuckled as he flopped down onto the couch reaching for the bag of food.

“Sue me for wanting to leave a good impression,” giggling as you teased Phillip back. He raised his eyebrows back at you trying to hide his smile as he handed you one of the plates of food.

The door shut behind the two Shadows as they stood silently outside the door trying to process what they just witnessed. Never had they seen this side of their Commander, he was always strict, professional, and they could never even imagine him having a soft side. 

“We gotta tell the others,” 

“Would they even believe us? Commander havin’ a girlfriend, and did you see how he was with her?”

“I swear this is the twilight zone or somethin’ dude,”

The boys went on and on about the scene they just witnessed as they headed down to the common area to fill everyone in on the secret side of their Commander, Phillip Graves.

“Well I should get going, I don’t want to keep you locked up in your office all day,” 

“I wouldn't mind that though,”

“Mhmm I know,” you walked over to Phillip, his hands resting on your waist, “Thanks for letting me come for lunch,” 

“You’re always welcome doll,” he placed a kiss on your forehead, “Want to say bye to everyone?” you nodded as Graves led you out of his office and towards the common area.

Walking down the halls Phillip had his arm wrapped tightly around your waist, keeping you close to him. As you approached the others you just caught the end of the conversation being had by none other than the two Shadows who were just in Graves’ office earlier.

“-it was like he was a whole different person I swear,” 

Phillip cleared his throat interrupting the conversation, “Shadows,” everyone’s attention immediately going to the Commander. “I'm sure you all heard, word travels fast here I suppose,” his eyes shot over to the two boys, “This is my lovely girlfriend, I’m hopin’ to get her out here more but she wanted to say ‘Hi’ before she headed out for the day,” he went on as his hand lightly rubbed your back. 

“Hi everyone,” you smiled and waved to the group, “Phil has told me so much about you all so I just wanted to introduce myself,” a slew of ‘Hi’s’ floated through the crowd in response.

“Well, I gotta let her get home,” he kissed your cheek as he continued, “I’ll see y’all for the briefing once I get back, heard?”

A unanimous “Yup yup,” was heard loud and clear as you and Phillip waved bye and headed out.

“Do you think they liked me?” you and Phillip's hands were intertwined as you walked to your car.

“Of course they did doll, how could they not?” he squeezed your hand lightly as you approached the car finally. You unlocked it and opened the car door but didn't get in yet. “Thanks for comin’ to see me today and bringin’ lunch,” Phillip smiled.

“Thank you for letting me come spend the afternoon with you, I know you’re busy,”

“I’ll always make time for you,” he pulled you in for a hug. After a few minutes, you pulled away, standing up on your tiptoes and kissing him. 

“I’ll see you soon,” you winked as you hopped in the car.

“See you soon love,” Graves stood and waved as you left the base, already counting down the minutes till he could see you again.

i saw a post earlier that q!tubbo is the only "moral" character even after purgatory and it's kinda kept me awake, not because i don't agree with the sentiment (i do) but because the idea of morality as intrinsically important in fandom / character analysis is fascinating to me, *especially* when we're talking about the morality of someone who's basically just spent two weeks in some eye guy's budget hunger games.

first off, while i fully agree that by the end of this q!tubbo *is* a character that tried at every turn to be kind and generous even to his own detriment, how does that make him more or less "moral" than q!phil or q!fit? he still killed, the same as them. he still strategized to beat his friends, has blood on his hands — why is he marked above x, y, or z in the moral scale?

well, one could argue that he did what he did for his team, for the eggs, and because he was forced to when he was put in the game in the first place, yeah? it's not his fault he's in this position, and he's doing his best to survive it. i personally think that's totally valid and justifiable, but it leaves a huge elephant in the room.

what about everyone else?

i'm going to use q!bad as an example because he's my main pov, and before i go into this analysis i want it known i'm very much playing the devil's advocate and illustrating a point — i am not saying his actions are "good". good? good.

okay. so, q!bad. here we have a non-human father who was told by his missing child to win regardless of the cost, or whomever he had to run over. he had to win. is it immoral then for him to take that to heart and play the game the way it was presented? is it immoral for him to kill for his child, or to be determined to win even in detriment of others? to want to use the same strategies in the battlefield that everyone else would, even if they're not kind or polite?

i don't fucking know, because morality isn't linear — this situation *isn't* linear bc if people will go on the record saying they would kill for their child and are praised for it, what makes q!bad's actions in the universe he's existing in any different?

you can even say that by some perspectives, q!tubbo extending so much kindness to his competitors over and over again was at times (or could've been) detrimental to his team ergo their childrens' lives and yet he still did it. is it more moral to save children or be nice to someone else?

my point being, i feel that the morality argument while very very interesting is kind of irrelevant bc when push comes to shove, characters aren't compelling bc they have more or less morals — i genuinely think a lot of media / character consumption has *actively* been harmed by everyone's need to have the thing they enjoy be "good" or "moral" or "right" bc if it isn't, what does that say about us?

the answer to that one is: absolutely nothing, but man do i think sometimes people in fandom feel guilty if they like or prefer an immoral or grey character vs a "stereotypical" moral one.

anyway, all this to say that i think by the end of purgatory, q!tubbo is the character that was most true to himself and his values from start to finish, and it's been a great watch. is he the most morally correct? eh. who the fuck knows.

- these two are often called "idiotic snake minions" by Big D because they do often act like idiots in the reboot when theyre around Big D and since they work for him

- when they get Big D annoyed by them, he then gets them to the mirror and he takes off their sunglasses so they stone themselves

- when Mr Yin and Mr Min stone others, they wont be stoned for so long, only for a few minutes and they go back to normal

3rd: Kaylie and Mackenzie

An instructor at the University of Kansas has been placed on leave after a video on X showed him suggesting to his class that men who won't vote for a female president should be shot.

"(If you think) guys are smarter than girls, you've got some serious problems," the man in the video said. "That's what frustrates me. There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don't think females are smart enough to be president. We could line all those guys up and shoot them. They clearly don't understand the way the world works.

"Did I say that? Scratch that from the recording. I don't want the deans hearing that I said that."

The university confirmed the video was recorded during a class this semester.

"We are aware of the video, which was recorded during a class earlier this semester," said Erinn Barcomb-Peterson, a KU spokesperson. "The instructor is being placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation. The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation. His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so. The university has an established process for situations like this and will follow that process."

In a similar statement on X, KU added that the comments "made an inappropriate reference to violence."

Who is the KU instructor in the video?

Barcomb-Peterson confirmed that Phil Lowcock is the instructor in the video.

Lowcock's name had been circulating on social media. His staff page on the KU Athletics website no longer exists, and at least one social media post by an athletics account that mentioned him — a staff highlight in April — has been deleted. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was still listed on the university's online directory as a lecturer.

The 2015 KU track and field media guide said Lowcock has taught at KU since 1984. As of 2015, he was an academic adviser for multiple athletics teams while doing support work for international student-athletes in addition to be an adjunct faculty member in the health, sport and exercise science department.

A request for comment sent to Lowcock's KU email account was not immediately returned.

Kansas Republican Party chair Mike Brown wrongly identified the speaker in a press release and now-deleted social media post as a journalism professor who retired in December 2019.

Kansas Regents oppose 'violent rhetoric'

The University of Kansas is under the Kansas Board of Regents, which oversees the state's public higher education institutions.

Blake Flanders, the KBOR president and CEO, said in a statement that he was aware of the video, and that the instructor was place on leave pending investigation by KU "in accordance with their established processes."

“The Board believes every American citizen has the right to vote how they see fit without fear of retribution or violence," Flanders said. "All of us, especially those in positions of authority, have a responsibility to respect and uphold that right. The Regents firmly oppose the use of violent rhetoric in our political discourse."

Free speech group calls for instructor's reinstatement

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, an organization that promotes free speech by students and faculty on college campuses, called for KU "to refrain from punishing faculty for protected speech and to restore this instructor to the classroom immediately."

"The First Amendment protects professors who tell brief, off-topic jokes in the classroom," said Graham Piro, FIRE program officer, in a statement. "It also protects hyperbole. In order to constitute a true threat, a speaker must communicate a serious intent to commit an act of unlawful violence against a specific individual or a group of individuals.

"The viral video shows an instructor making an off-handed joke — not communicating a serious intent to commit unlawful violence. That's protected speech, and people advocating that the instructor be punished for his expression are advocating for the erosion of the First Amendment."

FIRE's 2025 college free speech rankings list KU's speech climate as "below average."

What Kansas politicians are saying about KU instructor's comments

The video was posted Wednesday morning by Ned Ryun, who works in conservative politics and is the son of former U.S. Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Kan., who was a KU track superstar.

"Seriously ⁦@UnivOfKansas⁩?" Ryun posted. "You're letting this be said in your classrooms? That men who won't vote for Kamala Harris for President should be lined up and shot?? ⁦@RogerMarshallMD⁩ ⁦@JerryMoran"

That post was shared on X by both U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., and Republican Attorney General Kris Kobach.

"KS Regents: We educate leaders, build communities, and make discoveries that change the world," Kobach said. "KU prof: Some males in our society will refuse to vote for a female prez, because they don't think females are smart enough to be Prez. We could line all those guys up and shoot them."

Marshall called for Lowcock's immediate firing.

"The University of Kansas must fire this professor immediately," Marshall said in a statement. "Anyone who says that people who don't vote for Kamala Harris should be 'lined up and shot' are completely deranged and shouldn't be around students nor in academia. This promotion of political violence should be met with quick action by KU."

was gonna add this in the tags of a post but it got really long and i was like ok lemme just make a separate post to be pretentious on. but i think the urge to separate character action from cc action in mcyt fanwork is the kneejerk reaction to "what if this is rpf"... its a taboo to talk about rpf or write rpf (in general but especially in mcyt fan space) so we in fandom tend to be very stringent about, like, fuck, i dunno. the platonic ideal of OOC vs IC. im not going to make broad claims about the historic relationship of mcyt fanwork to rpf because well its really late at night and thats the sort of conjecture reserved for annoying my friends in dms. but it seems apparent to me that the birth of even the terms c! and cc! were due to wanting to distinguish ethical fanwork from non-ethical fanwork.

theres a few layers and axises to consider the ethicality of fanwork (of which i will consider fanfic in this post because i am foremost a fanfic writer). a good example to start, when we discard the c! vs cc! labels, and start to look objectively at work, is the level at which a fanwork becomes unethical. we look at the surroundings of the fic --

are they in minecraft? does the work make reference to them doing minecraft things? how is, say, movement or inventory or block shape and placement described how realistic is the minecraft world when compared to our real world? does it seem like a general fantasy setting?

is it acceptable to put the subjects into a fantasy setting? a high sci fi setting? a superhero au? what about an au which elaborates on existing political structures alluded to in canon?

what about a modern au, no powers? does, for example, the description of mumbo having a mustache or tango having hair suffice as distinction enough? what about modern aus where they live in real life cities? what about historic aus? is 1800s london more acceptable than 2020s london?

what about names? generally it is agreed that grian should not be called charles in a fic for it to be considered referring to the character, and not the CC. is that distinction meaningful when we are interacting with the simulacra of grian? what about jimmy? is it enough of a distinction to call him jimmy solidarity? what about calling philza phil? is that acceptable?

what should be considered canon to that setting? does "off camera" count as in character? (this is where i think the lines start to blur a bit for people) what if characteristics that are exclusive to the "real person" are given to the subject of fiction (ie. scar's wheelchair or other aids) (this is the point where i'm lamenting the lack of ability to add footnotes to a tumblr post)

what is the breaking point for all of these ethical considerations? this is something that must be present when considering fanwork from the model of c/cc divide. if one were to question the necessity of the existence of that divide, what changes (negative or positive) does that bring to the community? in art, fic, meta, crit, etc.? do we value the artist's opinion, their intent, over the art itself? i said i wasnt gonna bring up barthes in a tumblr post but the invention of the author as supreme truth maker can only hurt the growth of art. i think that's double edged here. the artist both has the autonomy to decide what is ethical to create but the audience also has the freedom to decide what is ethical in.... fandom. i just had to stop myself writing society, and write fandom. but yeah. food for thought. i dont really have a good way to end this uh heres a picture of my cats

"Could they have adopted a child?" Maybe. It might have worked, too. I'm sure Phil would have tried to weasel around it, but it's a good loophole to try and take. HOWEVER, everyone was obsessed with Mielle. They took one look at the baby and thought "Oh yeah, the fae would settle for nothing less than perfection. Which she is." And didn't even consider anything except that Phil would settle for nothing else. Plus, the fact that Phil showed up just after Mielle was born demanding her PROBABLY added to the thought that he only wanted her. So, could it have worked? Maybe, if they argued it well enough. But they didn't even consider it.

Also, if the deal had been completed so that Mielle and Felix would continue to live, they would continue to be as otherworldly as they had always been. Which, as you could probably tell from the small bits of politics they slipped, would have been disastrous for their country. Especially Mielle. People blindly trust her and give into her demands. She would have led the country to ruin.
