The Paradoxical Character: 19 Unique Trait Pairings
Here’s a list of 19 wildly unusual, highly contrasting trait pairs that blend quirky or fantastical attributes. These could make for delightfully strange, otherworldly, or surreal characters:
Immensely Patient & Chronically Forgetful Character Idea: They can wait for years without complaint but never remember why they started waiting in the first place. Their endless patience is undercut by the confusion of purpose, creating an aura of timeless mystery.
Unbearably Charming & Involuntarily Invisible Character Idea: This character has charisma in spades but is cursed to flicker out of sight randomly. Their allure is magnetic, but people constantly forget they were even there, adding to their mystique and frustration.
Perpetually Cheerful & Pathologically Suspicious Character Idea: They radiate sunshine and kindness yet believe everyone is secretly plotting against them. Their optimism is baffling, considering they’re convinced of hidden dangers everywhere.
Mind-Reading Empath & Emotionally Oblivious Character Idea: Able to feel others’ emotions intensely, yet baffled by their own, this character has no clue how they themselves feel. They’re highly attuned to everyone else but entirely alienated from their own heart.
Limitless Curiosity & Existentially Terrified Character Idea: Endlessly fascinated by every detail of the universe, yet they’re constantly haunted by the fear of the universe itself. Every new discovery brings wonder and intense dread, creating a fascinating internal tug-of-war.
Brilliant Strategist & Hopelessly Absent-Minded Character Idea: A tactical genius who can plan a perfect heist, yet constantly forgets their own plan halfway through. They’re sought after for their brilliance but just as likely to wander off mid-operation.
Supernaturally Persuasive & Pathologically Indecisive Character Idea: They could talk anyone into anything—if only they could decide what they wanted to say. Their powers of persuasion are legendary, but they take forever to make a single choice.
Ancient Wisdom & Childlike Innocence Character Idea: Despite being impossibly old and wise, they approach every situation with the wonder of a child. They’re both sage and novice, baffling people who come seeking advice but receive only wonder-filled observations.
Obscure Knowledge Hoarder & Shameless Gossip Character Idea: They know every forgotten fact of history yet can’t keep a secret to save their life. This character’s deep knowledge clashes hilariously with their loose tongue, turning historical mysteries into idle chatter.
Zen-like Tranquility & Quick to Panic Character Idea: Usually the calmest person in any room, until anything unusual happens, at which point they’re the first to run. People turn to them for peace until their sudden freakouts reveal a hidden, hilarious irony.
Hyper-Logical Thinker & Ridiculously Superstitious Character Idea: Obsessed with logical consistency yet terrified of stepping on cracks or upsetting minor spirits. Their rationality makes them a master problem-solver, but they’re comically fearful of common superstitions.
Effortlessly Graceful & Magically Clumsy Character Idea: They’re naturally elegant in all they do, but objects randomly fly out of their hands or shatter in their presence. They’re revered for poise but cursed by chaos, creating an aura of unpredictable charm.
Telepathically Intuitive & Immensely Gullible Character Idea: Able to sense the unspoken thoughts of others, but easily duped by the most obvious lies. They sense everyone’s hidden motives but constantly believe in harmless nonsense.
Exceptionally Knowledgeable & Epically Lazy Character Idea: They’ve accumulated endless knowledge from books but refuse to do anything with it. They could save the world but prefer napping and observing others fumble around in ignorance.
Magnet for Coincidences & Cynically Skeptical Character Idea: The most absurd things constantly happen around them, yet they refuse to believe in coincidences. This character is a walking contradiction of fate and disbelief, surrounded by odd events they disdain.
Hyper-Attentive Listener & Mute Character Idea: They pick up every nuance of conversation and are incredibly insightful, but they can’t respond out loud. People find comfort in their presence but struggle to understand their silence and deep gaze.
Radiantly Optimistic & Obsessed with Disaster Preparedness Character Idea: Always smiling and convinced things will work out, yet constantly building bunkers and storing supplies. Their sunny outlook is shadowed by an apocalyptic readiness that baffles everyone.
Unbreakable Memory & Instantly Distracted Character Idea: They remember every moment of their life in perfect detail but are so easily distracted that they rarely finish sentences. They’re a walking history book if only they’d stay focused long enough to share it.
Boundless Energy & Always Asleep Character Idea: They have an endless zest for life and could do anything—if they could just stay awake. People are drawn to their energy, but they frequently fall asleep mid-sentence, leaving everyone in suspense.

A very important question:
In a Reverse!Robins AU, what would the costume look like?
Specifically, would a 9 year old Dick Grayson see the Robin suit and think to himself, "Huh. That needs less pants."

Currently debating rewriting an SBI fic I wrote a few months ago and never released. Because like. The less than desirable elements? Can be cut out so easily without disrupting the plot. And I'm very proud of the concept (it's so dumb and I love it)

Concept:
You know those fics where a member of the DSMP ends up in Hermitcraft? And there's, like, lots of angst and healing and stuff?
Well, what if that happened to Technoblade.
Like, how would he even react to being on a server like that? Would he try and make a build to fit in, only to give up after realizing he has no idea what he's doing? And then calling Phil because, like, what else are you supposed to do in that situation?
He learns what elytra are and is just. Trying so hard to use them. But eventually he gives up and goes back to obsessively breeding horses.
Bdubs vs. Techno. Battle of the political ideologies. Absolutely no one wins (especially not all the other hermits who have to deal with the fallout).
I feel like he'd be bros with Etho. They just give off similar vibes.
Techno tries to prank people, but just ends up violating the Geneva convention multiple times.
He completely ignores any kind of aesthetics and makes his base out of player heads. Why? No one knows.
A valiant attempt at redstone is made. Many lives are lost in the process. The hermits agree to do his redstone for free, just to avoid anything like that ever happening again.
Fuck it. Imma write this

Y'know, I see a lot of posts urging people to comment on fics, so I just want to say, to all the people who do comment, and especially the long commenters:
thank you.
Long comments can be time-consuming. They can be difficult to write, but you leave them anyway!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who comments.
You are the highlight of fanfiction writers' days.

Are there any discord servers dedicated to les mis fic writers? Or with, like, a large amount of them?
I'm trying to actually get involved in the community after years of lurking, and I'm not sure where to start.

Do I feel a little goofy for writing all that if the mystery is 100% solved and I just wasn't paying attention?
Yes.
Does this detract from the complete and utter joy I felt when I realised that Mr. Blobby is, indeed, part of the Magnus Protocol?
Absolutely not.
how much do i have to pay you so that you can at least ATTEMPT to add frebby fazbear into the magnus protocol
This tickles me a bit, because thinking about it, we have kinda done some mascot horror in Protocol, but whereas chuck-e-cheese is the archetypical American version, we've drawn horror out of a 90s British mascot. And I'm pretty confident which of the two is more fucked up.
Five Nights at Freddie's does interest, though - I grew up when there was quite a rich array of horror stories aimed at kids: Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, the Point Horror books. Now it seems like a lot of that stuff have been supplanted by franchises like Five Nights at Freddie's, which is aimed at kids but marketed as though it's not, and does a lot to try and launder its intended audience. It's interesting to me, though I don't feel like I have a well-developed thesis about it.

Is this. Does this mean.
Mr. Blobby in the Magnus Protocol???
Because I will kill for Mr. Blobby in the Magnus Protocol. I will watch the blood pool below my feet, growing and growing into a crimson mirror. Sometimes, I look down at the bodies, stare at the carnage I have caused. My eyes catch on their reflection. I wish I could say that I recognised the person staring back. When I smile, they smile in return- a bloody grin and twitching fingers, strained with energy, like a cat waiting to pounce. I will sing songs of joy, songs of longing. Songs powerful enough to change history, their influence spreading across the land in waves of painful static. There will be resistance, for there is always resistance. But it does not bother me. They shall be struck down, writhing, pinned to the ground by bloodied hands. I will weave the sinew of my detractors into a net, something powerful enough to capture a god.
Or, perhaps, something more. Something larger. Something far more powerful than any deity.
Mr. Blobby, I wait for thee.

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.
The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.
Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.
I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)
Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

Very important question that's totally unrelated to a fanfic I'm writing:
Who is your favorite extremely obscure Les Mis character? Like, the one that no one even knows exists because they've got like two lines in a thousand page novel?

I feel like the characters in Les Mis would work so well in horror. Like, one of my favorite fics starts as a romcom and devolves into Eldritch Horror™. The characters just fit with the genre?
Maybe it's because we're all used to them suffering lmao
What I'm saying is: Les Mis horror AU recs please
#les mis#les miserables#les amis#enjolras#grantaire#courfeyrac#combeferre#eponine#and everyone else but those guys stand out to me as particularly well written for horror

Summaries for each:
LES MIS MAGNUS ARCHIVES:
Combeferre has recently gotten a job as Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute. His job is to record statements of paranormal events and sort them... Somehow. Unfortunately, his predecessor left the place about as organised as a dumpster. And his assistants (Grantaire, Courfeyrac, and Marius) aren't exactly helpful. Or even competent.
MAGICAL GIRL TECHNOBLADE:
Years ago, Technoblade was given (peer pressured into by a void monster) the job of protecting his city. As the magical girl Techno-Chan, he decides to save the day the best way he knows how: incredible violence. Was he given the power to resolve these situations peacefully? Yes. Was he going to use that power for its intended purpose? Absolutely not.
NEW VEGAS SBI:
Technoblade got shot in the head during a mail delivery gone wrong. Which is probably (definitely) a bad thing. Somehow, he's saved by a stranger and his mysterious family. Now it's time to go on a journey across a post-apocalyptic wasteland in order to track down the guy who shot him.
(For the ones based on pre-existing material, the plot isn't going to be an exact 1:1 recreation of the original story. Think of it as more like when you get a dollhouse that's been themed after, like, Star Wars. But you only have Barbie dolls. So you decide to put those Barbie dolls In A Situation and see what comes next.)
