a bit of advice:
order dessert before dinner whenever you can. get the really rich option, the oreo cheesecake or chocolate mouse. lick warm, melty whipped cream off the backside of your spoon, scoop the chocolate clean off the plate, sit back and sigh and lament that you might have not saved enough room for dinner, without an ounce of regret, and then go on to finish the bread and oil and your entire bowl of pasta too. look utterly confused anytime anyone brings up their new diet, or how they need to work out before dinner, or that they are just soooo bloated, or how they just need to lose that last 5 pounds. act as if it is the most absurd thing you have heard that someone would even consider cutting calories or passing on warm cookies fresh out of the oven or ignoring the pleasure of eating a whole bag of pink starbursts in one sitting. picture yourself at age three, often. think about a time before dance classes or diet culture or tiny runway models or tumblr of 2012 got it’s hands on you. remember the way your belly rolls looked extra cute in your purple butterfly swimsuit with watermelon juice covering your sticky salt water fingers, braids wildly unkempt from summertime play (and then remember that nothing has changed with age except that now you have a blue butterfly swimsuit instead of purple). and when you can’t show up for yourself to feed this adult body that has to face the world, feed yourself at three years old, giggly and chubby, sweet talking in hopes for a second popsicle. let them know that they can have three popsicles if they want, and that tonight, we will even order our dessert before dinner.

A bit of advice
From me to you
Is don't go wasting
The time they give to you
Hold them close and love them fair
Don't be afraid to show how you care
Life has a habit
Of washing away
The simple pleasures
We enjoy day after day
Find a way to keep them close to your heart
Find a way to love life's smallest of parts.

Nocturnal Animal
Your love is a nocturnal animal
Eyes too big, mouth too wide
Soaking in all the shadows of my mind
Your love is a nocturnal animal
Hunting, harrowed, dark as pitch
A sinful treasure that you know I miss;
But that's the problem I have with it:
It only comes out at night.

Creep 2/4/23
A cool mist escapes her lips. Eyes trained forward, counting every misshapen rock on the gravel floor. You can tell she doesn't know what to say.
But you've been waiting forever to talk to her like this, even if she may not share the sentiment. Putting an ear to the ground yields results, after all.
She squirms in her seat. "Who told... I mean. How did you know? You know."
You let a smirk creep onto your face. Did you? Was it already there?
How exhilarating.
You cup a free hand gingerly to your mouth. The other ends up behind her somehow. You lean forward, and if she flinches at this distance, you don't notice. Ah, it's not cold anymore. You whisper into her ear.
Wouldn't want anybody to eavesdrop, after all.

Skin (Escapril Day 7)
Wearing on that skin again -
Wearing that leather suit tight,
And not letting any threats to bite.
Making sure all the belts fit right,
Ready to get on for every fight.
Then plow through every barrier,
Give no excuse for any chances not taken.
Stoicism is the heart’s carrier,
The tension holding it unshaken.
The suit remains tighter,
On a skin that never felt lighter.
One blow to the body,
And the binds feel more painful.
But such an outfit so gaudy,
Only words can be more baneful.
Don’t let it slip,
Don’t ever pull a skip.
Once the show’s over,
The empty ballroom shall be the cover.
Jarring,
How you look so pretty, darling.
Yet your heart was never daring.
Grew to believe none was ever caring,
Thus your resilience becomes your bearing.
But each step your dance was so uptight,
Never allowing to land your feet less right.
Every tune you desired to sing an aura so bright,
But every word echoed inside spirals out of spite.
Can we,
Just take off the leather for today?
Take off the tough skin you wear this day?
No need to always be the star of the show,
No need to always be pushing to grow.
No need to write every word with so much grace,
No need to write every poem to be top ace.
No need to rhyme every syllable,
And just write what’s natural.
The child in the corner,
Is waiting for love to shower.
It has always wanted to make someone proud,
It has always wanted to hear the love aloud.
Lonely has he feel ever be more needy,
Could not have an attention any less greedy.
It waves to you,
Excited to talk with you.
Reach out,
And perhaps let the neglected child pout,
For today.
