Ernest Withers' Exhibit Captures Legacy in Photos of Black History - ArtburstMiami

I spent a lot of time with the Withers family in my hometown of Memphis, Tennessee on Brooks Road. My aunt and uncle lived down the street from the Withers household and everyone who lived in the area worked together in elections and community services for Black Indigenous People who lived in the area.

The march was part of the sanitation workers' strike that began in February of that year. The sanitation workers, most of whom were African American, were demanding better wages, safer working conditions and recognition of their union.

Oh wow this is so cool! I did not realize Elvis and Ernest Withers had crossed paths. Ernest took some amazing photographs of the Civil Rights Movement. ❤️
