Ernest Withers' Exhibit Captures Legacy in Photos of Black History - ArtburstMiami

My aunt and uncle lived down the street from the Withers household and everyone who lived in the area worked together in elections and community services for Black Indigenous People who lived in the area.

Thousands march through fifteen blocks of downtown Memphis, 1968. Ernest Withers. Pigment print.
The march was part of the sanitation workers' strike that began in February of that year. The sanitation workers, most of whom were African American, were demanding better wages, safer working conditions and recognition of their union.
