“Violet, baby wake up!” Eric smiled, lifting the baby out of her cot, “good morning!”

Violet rubbed her face against Eric’s shoulder as he wandered around the nursery, rubbing her back soothingly.

Eventually, the infant pulled away so she was looking at her dad, giving him a toothless grin.

“Ah hello, beautiful!” he gasped, flattening the hair on her head down, the strands currently facing multiple different directions at the same time, “it’s christmas! Santa’s been!”

Though Violet had no idea what the words meant, the excitement in her dad’s voice made her giggle and clap.

“Let’s go and wake Mummy, hmm?” Eric said, kissing the side of Violet’s head as they walked into your shared bedroom.

Eric placed Violet onto your bed, allowing her to crawl over and land on your sleeping body, waking you with a grunt.

“What the—”

“Good morning!” Eric cheered, a bright smile on his face (the same bright smile etched onto the tiny face of your daughter in front of you) as he went and turned the bedside light on.

“Good morning?” you laughed, pulling Violet into your arms for a proper cuddle as you looked to Eric in confusion.

“Mummy,” Eric spoke, imitating what you thought Violet’s voice would sound like, as he did whenever he wanted something, “I know it’s really early but can we open our presents now?”

“Presents!” you gasped, Violet staring up at you in wonder, “it’s Christmas, Vi! Merry Christmas!”

“Hey,” Eric pouted, making you laugh.

“Merry Christmas to you too,” you giggled as your husband crawled on the bed as well, leaning forward to connect your lips, “now let’s open presents, Vi!”
