Eurasian jays can remember incidental details of past events, which is characteristic of episodic memory in humans, according to a study published May 15, 2024, in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by James Davies of the University of Cambridge, U.K., and colleagues. When remembering events, humans have the ability of "mental time travel," consciously reimagining past experiences and potentially recalling details that seemed unimportant at the time. Some researchers have suggested that this "episodic memory" is unique to humans. In this study, Davies and colleagues ran a memory experiment to test for episodic-like memory in seven Eurasian jays, birds that excel at remembering the location of stored food.

Some birds may have the human ability to reimagine memories, new study #research #study #timetravel #memory #eurasianjays #episodicmemory #informationencoding
In the peer-reviewed, open access journal, PLOS ONE, a new research article, “Eurasian jays (Garrulus glandarius) show episodic-like memory through the incidental encoding of information,” indicates that some birds may be able to use “mental time travel,” a capability thought to be unique to humans. Mental time travel is the capacity to mentally reconstruct personal events from the past, aka,…

"You can see yourself from the outside in an episodic memory. The new thinking about episodic memory [...] included ideas about what purpose this kind of memory serves. [...] They suggested that the important and useful thing we do with mental time travel is simulate possible situations in order to aid planning. These situations need never have happened -- they are mere possibilities, things that might come about tomorrow. Episodic memory, which looks backward, is a byproduct of this forward thinking ability. Why should we believe this? One reason is that episodic memory is so unreliable. If its role was to be a mere record, we might expect something more accurate. The combo of unreliability and vividness seen in episodic memory is apart of what suggests that it is a byproduct of a skill in exploring possible futures. A forward-looking faculty brings with it an ability to cook up pasts as well."

thinking about how they said grover was affected the most out of everyone bc he was alone and how nico and bianca stayed for 70 years inside that hotel and didn't forget each other bc they were always within reach and how that little detail makes their story even more devastating bc they got through it together and the moment they got out they get separated and then bianca never comes back

Managing Memory Changes In the Elderly
Memory changes in the elderly can strain relationships and affect cognition. The Sound Mind Hub suggests proactive strategies to help manage these changes effectively.
As individuals age, the functionality of their memory gradually diminishes. This can prove challenging for elderly individuals who possess a clear understanding of their cognitive abilities. Furthermore, the shifts in memory that occur within the elderly population can be subtle, making them harder to identify. Consequently, this may create tension within parent-adult child relationships, as the…

I don’t think we’ve ever seen you draw knight of dawn before 🤔 what are your thoughts about him? Or take?
I've drawn him a couple of times, just really little/in the background. but I should draw him more, I love this guy a lot! I have many, many thoughts about him and the way he parallels Silver...and also I think it is extremely funny that his ghost is stuck in a ring. especially considering where that ring has been for the last 16-ish years.

The bear trying to gaslight me into believing Claire and Carmy’s relationship was all sunshine by putting some never seen before flashbacks where he is suddenly smiling all the time… when the only thing we see season 2 is him miserable and worried and bathed in blue light everytime he is with or thinks about Claire, to the point he even had a panic attack about it????

You couldn't do a straightforward Human Nature plot set in the 12th Doctor era bc if 12 got fobwatched Clara would immediately steal his identity. Missy would also steal his identity. Absolutely insane Doctorfication possibilities.
Also, 12's forgotten memories canonically manifest as songs AND he's faceblind, so he wouldn't even have a dramatic dream journal full of half-remembered portraits, he'd just be hanging out in his university office shredding guitar solos while Bill (who he just met) is like "Wow, sick riff Professor Smith!" and he's like "Thanks, it's called I Dreamt I Rode a Dinosaur."

So like. Did anyone else notice that Jayce doesn't immediately shoot Viktor? He only powers his hammer on AFTER Viktor has opened his eyes. Below is Jayce's reaction to seeing Viktor (his Viktor, from his universe, not the future version of him) for the first time after walking into the dome. For the first time in months. That's like. A look of wonder. Almost reverence.
Tumblr media
Assuming the Jinx/Rictus/Vander fight is cut to real-time after Jayce has gone into the dome, he's staring at Viktor for like. 5 minutes.
Tumblr media
My interpretation here, of Jayce's expression just before Viktor finally opens his eyes to see Jayce in the room with him, he's committing Viktor to memory, before he has to kill him.
Edit: I almost missed it but like. HE IS SMILING For like 2 frames it's an outright smile. He leans in towards him, too. I cannot handle this.
