-- If there was anything that was difficult for you in playing your role, please share with us!

Toyonaga: What made it difficult was the fast tempo of both serious and comical scenes. I think that it's also one of the things that make this show so good, but when it comes to the voice-over, it's usually recorded all at once, so it was quite hard for me to switch between the comical and the serious mode, and often it would take time for my mind to catch up with the change of the tone. So the base for my performance is always Yuuri, of course, but the image of my acting, that I came up with, is that in my head, I have prepared a few boxes, like 'comical box', 'serious box', 'riposte box' etc., so I can quickly put Yuuri in one of them, depending on the scene. Discussing the voice-over with the Sound Director, Shimizu-san, sometimes made me realize that I chose the wrong box for this particular scene, so then I tweak my performance a bit. It was both difficult and fun, to do that.

-- The anime is still airing, with very good reviews, but in the episodes that has already aired, is there any scene or line that is your favorite?

Toyonaga: For me personally, the whole Hasetsu is such a beautiful and warm place. And Victor's butt is so nice, too, isn't it? (laugh) [As expected from real-life Yuuri ✨] The scenes, where they are in the onsen are so fun, and I like them very much, too. And there is that one scene, in which Yuuri's older sister, Mari, sees Yurio and I really want to know, who is that Takao guy from that idol group that she fantasizes about just for a second (laugh). And that Yuuri's room is full of Victor's posters - very interesting details are sprinkled over every episode, so it's difficult to chose just one scene. But as for Yuuri, the scene near the beginning of episode 2., where we see Yuuri noticing that: 'I'm so happy, that my heart is pounding', was very memorable to me. His heart isn't pounding, because he doesn't know what to do, he's simply happy that Victor has become his coach, and seeing him like that, I can't help myself but think 'Good for you, Yuuri!'. And when he does basic training together with Yurio... I can go on forever, giving you examples (laugh). Every one episode is so densely packed that you really start to have doubts if it's really just 30 minutes of anime.

Sirius Symbolism in TOWL (and a few words on the Apple/iPhone symbolism)

(…and also, a convoluted “Coda” reference…)

Now that TOWL is finished, I want to say a few words on how the symbolism we know and love consistently continues to be used in TWDU. TOWL was a show predominantly about Rick and Michonne, and revolved mostly around their story and their resolution. The exceptions were episodes 1x4 and 1x5, which I’ve talked about other places, (and also here and here).

The Sirius symbolism is very much still in play, we saw evidence of that already in episode 1x1 Days. I’ve talked about Sirius symbolism and how it’s synonymous with fire (because Sirius means scorching/glowing) in multiple posts over the years, for example here.

In 1x1 Days, Rick is flying the helicopter with Okafor, then decides to tell a story from his childhood. One night, at seven years old, he wakes in the middle of the night because he’s thirsty. He goes to get a drink of water, then discovers the farm is on fire, and his father is badly burnt. His father tells him not to worry, the fire will help promote next year’s harvest. His father says it may look like the end of the world, but in reality it’s the beginning of something new, something better.

That’s the essence of the Sirius symbolism. It means rebirth, resurrection and…

...reunion!

Because immediately after Rick tells his story, the helicopter is hit, and goes down in flames:

And what happens next is basically what the Sirius symbolism is all about…

…reunion with loved ones:

Remember that the Sirius symbolism was introduced into TWDU as far back as in TWD 1x1 Days Gone Bye. “Seriously” were among the first words spoken, chronologically speaking, in a flashback from before the outbreak, from before Rick’s car accident that landed him in a coma, the coma we saw him wake up/resurrect from in 1x1 Days Gone Bye (read more here).

(the word "serious" in TWDU is used as code for Sirius due to phonetical similarities)

And if anyone still wonders what this whole Sirius thing is all about, Rick actually articulated it eloquently in 1x6:

...sometimes things have to burn to come back.

This comment, from 1x6 The Ones Who Live, was in reference to his story from 1x1 Days, in which he told the story about the fire, then crashed, then immediately reunited with Michonne. This time, in 1x6, is was foreshadowing his return/resurrection/reunion with Judith and RJ.

And on that note, I want to touch on the Apple symbolism some, because it’s tied right into the Sirius symbolism. Remember we first saw the Apple iPhone in 10x13 What We Become, when Michonne found his boots and a Apple iPhone in an old abandoned boat, marked with the numbers 762, on Virgil’s island. This was the first “proof of life” from Rick, and it was what convinced her he could still be alive. It was what prompted her to go out searching for him.

In the coda of the TWD series finale, 11x24 Rest In Peace, the symbolism around the boots and the Apple iPhone was partially fulfilled when we saw how the boots and the iPhone ended up in the boat marked with 762. We saw Rick Grimes, clearly alive, trying to escape the CRM, leaving his backpack with the boots and phone on the boat, before he was recaptured.

Apple symbolism was always closely tied to Richonne, but we did also see it around Daryl in TWDDD a whole lot, which is promising. Read more here.

And, we eventually saw the apple symbolism completely fulfilled in the last few scenes, when Rick and Michonne, after having neutralized the CRM, returned to Judith and RJ in a CRM helicopter. We first see Michonne holding the Apple iPhone, the one first seen in 10x13...

...then, the reunion happens...

Rick Grimes, The Brave Man, is "resurrected", "reborn" and reunited with his family.

And we do know it’s tied to the Sirius and "fire" symbolism because watch this scene from TOWL 1x3 Bye:

“…sometimes things have to burn to bring things back…”

Rick, upon deciding he no longer can remain hopeful of ever getting back to his loved ones, burns the iPhones, thinking he has to let go. But as we know, the symbolism isn't about letting go, it's about rebirth, resurrection and reunion...

Sometimes things have to burn in order to came back...

Once he burns the Apple iPhones, he (or rather, TPTB) activates the Sirius symbolism, and a "reunion" is subsequently lined up in his near future.

That's Sirius symbolism. And it was fulfilled in an episode called The Ones Who Live...

This is some A+ foreshadowing by using Sirius symbolismon the part of TPTB. And this is the type of symbolism we see around Beth constantly! She's among "The Ones Who Live".

Finally, a few words on the coda.

Which coda, you ask?

Well there wasn’t really one, I’m just trying to be cute with word plays. There was, however, a small nod to Cotton Tail, the rabbit from TWD 4x15 Us, an episode in which Daryl almost killed Len Claimer because he indirectly offended Beth, or so to speak. Read more on that here. Long story short, the rabbit from 4x15 Us 100% represented Beth, and in particular, the part that Daryl got, “the ass end”, represented 5x8 Coda, because “the ass end” of “Cotton Tail” is a reference to the Latin word “Coda”, which literally translates to “tail”. Len specifically described Daryl as someone who had lost himself "a piece of tail". This was directly after he had lost Beth. Beth is the piece of tail. Beth is Cotton Tail.

We didn’t get a coda per se in TOWL 1x6, but in a roundabout way, I’d say we still got one:

Cotton Tail!

Sure, maybe that makes me delusional, but then again, I am TD, so why not? I embrace it!

Least Haunted Character Recap: Consent Fetishist "Rassy."

This Friday (12/22/23) Least Haunted will release its 4th annual fully dramatized Holiday Special: Consent Fetishist Rassy's 100% Consensual Christmas Extravaganza!

But some of you who are unfamiliar with The Least Haunted Podcast might be a bit confused as to what the hell is going on, or who the hell "Consent Fetishist Rassy" is? So We have prepared this Helpful little character bio/recap to bring you up to speed.

This will include all appearances of Rassy in both Halloween and Holiday specials. It will gloss some of the non special appearances for completion. But you really should listen to the show, because they get mentioned rather frequently. Are you ready? You have to say "Yes" first! Those are the rules...

NAME: Rassy

ALIASES: Consent Fetishist Rassy, Consent Fetishist Elmo, Tickle You Elmo, Dr. Funninstuffed phd

AGE: (as of 2023) -7 is from a nullified future timeline/parallel universe. will would have been manufactured ca, 2030.

First, we need to talk about The Backwards Carousel of Time!

The Backwards Carousel of Time was introduced in Episode 04: The Clownening, and is a mechanical device later revealed to have been built by Cody using specs from the internet, and parts kluged together from a Tiger Electronics X-Men handheld game from the 90's, and a Tickle Me Elmo doll. It allows for Cody and Garth to travel through time to observe events discussed in the podcast a la "The Ghost of Christmas Present."

The Carousel SHOULD not allow for interaction between the observed and the observers... It is used primarily as a narrative device to keep things interesting.

All of this changed however in Episode 44: OOPS! All Christmas! Which served as the show's second Holiday Special.

In this holiday special Cody has added some modifications to the Backwards Carousel of Time that would allow for travel to the future and not just the past, and he wants to show them to Garth. Unfortunately a spilled holiday themed beverage causes a malfunction which transports the two to an alternate future in which The War on Christmas was decisively and brutally won by Christmas. Now every day is Christmas, and all culture and economy are yuletide based.

It is revealed that the carousel doesn't actually travel through time, and it never has! Instead it creates a small pocket dimension that operates much like the Holodeck from Star Trek. However this time due to the spilled drink malfunction the simulated people within the pocket dimension can see and interact with Cody and Garth.

In order to escape back to their rightful time/dimension Cody and Garth must team up with a cadre of militant Santa Clauses who are waging a guerrilla campaign to overthrow the fascist holiday state and return balance to all holidays with the true meaning of Christmas.

To repair the carousel they need a chip from a Tickle Me Elmo equivalent, which in this timeline is called "Tickle You Elmo!" (The doll with no sense of personal space!), and it just so happens to be the must have toy of the season. Also, Tickle You Elmo is a fully autonomous AI animatronic toy now.

Working with the Santa's they successfully steal the toy in a heist, use the parts to repair the carousel and return home. Unfortunately in the process the carousel is destroyed, AND the Tickle You Elmo came back to reality with Cody and Garth!

Using quick thinking, the duo lock the pesty robot in a room with the broken Backwards Carousel of Time with instructions to "Fix it."

That is where Tickle You Elmo is left...

That is until, Episode 50: The Garth Moon Hoax!

In this regular episode of the podcast, it is revealed that not only has Tickle You Elmo completed repairs on the Backwards Carousel of Time, but due to some deep soul searching and self exploration Tickle You Elmo has learned the value of consensual interactions, and in fact now consent is their kink. Thus they are rebranded as Consent Fetishist Elmo!

Around this time Consent Fetishist Elmo was sent to help Patreon Monster Squadron member, and wildlife biologist, @thebibarbarian in their research regarding Coyotes. Consent Fetishist Elmo officially became The Bibarbarian's research assistant, and along the way got alarmingly good at shooting a tranquilizer gun. A skill that would have been much more troubling if developed at a past point in their life. Also, a skill that translates into a general proficiency in long-guns...

Episode 65: Helldoodle!

In this, the third Halloween Special, Cody and Garth accidentally open a portal to Hell by playing a Three Men and A Baby Breakfast Cereal premium collector's 45 rpm vinyl backwards.

The resulting portal allows a number of Demons to come through into our plain of existence. One such Demon, Malacoda gets renamed Garth-Two and aides Cody and Garth in closing the portal and returning the other Demons to Hell. Garth-Two sticks around to become another recurring character.

Consent Fetishist Elmo show's up at the end to tranquilize a coyote and announce that they have returned from their time as a research assistant.

At the end of the special it is implied the Garth-Two tries to eat Consent Fetishist Elmo. In the process one of Consent Fetishist Elmo's eyes is damaged. It is later revealed through dialogue in regular episodes that the duo of Garth-Two and Consent Fetishist Elmo have actually become close friends, and that the two have embarked on a roadtrip through The American Southwest together.

Episode 91: Bottleeen!

In the fourth Least Haunted Halloween Special it is revealed that Consent Fetishist Elmo and Garth-Two have returned from their Thelma and Louise style voyage of self discovery. Also In order to escape the lawyers of "Big PBS" and The Children's Television Workshop, Consent Fetishist Elmo has adopted a new moniker!

Since Elmo it a nickname based on the name Erasmus, they have adapted a new variant of Erasmus and now go by, Consent Fetishist Rassy

In the episode Rassy shoots a fake Cody (a bottleganger) in the head sniper style in order to save Garth from being trapped in a small bottle-episode dimension. Although that part may not be completely canonical... You'll just have to listen to that episode to find out!

Which brings us up to speed with this year's holiday special, Consent Fetishist Rassy's 100% Consensual Christmas Extravaganza! Which premiers FRIDAY DECEMBER 22ND wherever podcasts can be heard, as well as on www.leasthaunted.com.

Who would have thought that a small independent artisanal podcast about paranormal skepticism would develop such a complex and intricate backstory and canonical universe? Eat yer hearts out Marvel!

p.s. You should also probably be aware that in the parlance of The Least Haunted Podcast, the term "Notes" can refer to weed. That might be helpful to know in the special as well.

About all that Apple symbolism in TWDU…

This is also an Apple, an Apple iPhone to be precise. I’m going to take a wild guess and say it’s an iPhone 3. I had the iPhone 4 myself and this looks more like the previous models. Anyway, it doesn’t matter, what matters is it’s an Apple product, probably the most iconic Apple product out there, apocalypse or not. An Apple iPhone.

When I talked at length about Michonne’s Vessel of Hope and Faith in my last post, this is what I was talking about. This is what gave her the hope and faith that inspired her to set out to find Rick. This is what made her believe (correctly so) that Rick was alive. The Apple iPhone was the catalyst for her journey to find him, which will soon lead to their reunion.

The letters apparently mean “Believe a little longer” which ties right into the theme of Hope and Faith I was discussing the other day.

When we saw Rick throw his backpack onboard the 762 vessel I discussed yesterday, his boots and the Apple iPhone with the etchings of Michonne and Judith were in it.

So yeah! I’m pleased to observe that the Apple references are still very much present in TWDU. So far in TWDDD, Daryl has eaten apples, been gifted apples, traded apples, lied about apple orchards and what not. And we're only two episodes in!

An Apple iPhone was what convinced Michonne that Rick could be alive, and it gave her the determination to go out and find him.

And for what it’s worth, the apple references so far in TWDDD have at least given this fangirl hope and faith there will be happy reunions in Daryl’s near future🍎🍏

Basic political concepts Americans should grasp

You have to vote in every election. Yes, every election.  Not just the Presidential ones.  You have to vote for Governor, Senator, Congresspeople – all of your state legislatures.  You have to vote for mayor, city council, school board.  You have to do this every single time.  Republicans do this every single time.  You can too.

It takes less time to tear things down than to build things up.  This is why it’s so easy to be a Republican and accomplish Republican goals.  They are destruction artists.  It’s easy to eliminate rights, easy to eliminate social programs.  Building and codifying and establishing these things is really fucking hard, takes time and patience.  This sucks, I know.  It sucks bad.  But it’s just reality.  So when you wonder why Republicans seem to accomplish more of their goals, it’s because their goals are to burn it all down.  They’re not really goals so much as just torching shit.

Mistakes of the past will continue to haunt us and we will have to continue to fight against them.  This really sucks, especially if you weren’t old enough to vote in previous elections.  But we’re all handed what we’re handed in life, and the people who came before us who accomplished real change took what they were handed and did something with it, they didn’t just check out.  And a lot of them fought really fucking hard so all of us could do #1 – VOTE.  Do not spit on the memories of people who literally laid down their lives fighting for the right for all of us to vote by not voting or throwing your vote away.

We can learn a lot from the last generation of activists who accomplished significant change and a lot of those people are still with us, for now.  Civil Rights Leaders still exist in our society, though they’re aging out.  Take a look at what they’re saying, because you know what?  They actually accomplished real change in their lifetimes, under really difficult circumstances.  Believe it or not, there are older people you can learn from.  We ignore the lessons of history to our peril.

Do you think you have something to offer?  Run for local office.  Or get involved with someone who is running for local office.  YOU can make a difference if you get involved.  But we also have to work together.  Coalition-building has always been the key to liberal success.
