SG1 time loop where Daniel keeps dying, like in the Supernatural episode where it just keeps happening no matter what, up to and including loony tunes-style.

"Daniel?" Jack hammered on the door. "C'mon, we don't have time for this."

"Nope," came Daniel's muffled voice. "I'm staying in bed. You can't make me."

"Wanna bet?" Jack asked. 

"Just let me sleep in," Daniel said. "It's not going to change anything."

"Now, what's that supposed to mean?" Jack asked, eyeing the lock. It was the kind that was stupid easy to pick... or just kick in. Breaking the door would probably get him yelled at, but if Daniel was about to go over the balcony again...metaphorically, at least… Worth it. Even if Hammond made him fix it. 

“If it’s all the same to you, I’d rather die in my sleep a couple times instead of an Iris malfunction or getting zatted."

"Come again?" Jack asked, looking at the door again, judging the distance between the hinges.

"Hey," Daniel said, suddenly a lot more clear. "How come when you got stuck in a time loop, you got to do fun stuff, but when I'm in one, I just die?"

"Well, it wasn't all fun," Jack protested. "Not all of us are linguists on purpose."

"But did you die?" Daniel asked, throwing open the door. 

"Ok, I'll give you that one," Jack said. "So, timeloop, huh? Not as fun as the movies make it seem, is it?"

Daniel shook his head, "I don't think the movies make it look very fun. Also, no! Because I keep dying."

"Have we tried--"

"The Asgard, the Nox, the Tollan, the Tok'ra, and Oma," Daniel ticked off the list. "None of them ever manage to fix it."

"I was just going to ask if you'd talked to Dr. Frasier about it but uh. Seems like you have that covered."

Daniel gave a tight, frustrated smile. "So you guys have fun on your trip to P3X-713, take a chicken with you, and let me go back to bed."

Jack rolled his eyes. "Take a chicken? Like a live one? Or like you're being?"

Daniel threw a book at him.  Jack almost managed to catch it.  He glanced at the thick book lying on the landing, frowning at the dust it left on his jacket. "Daniel, was that book loadbearing?"

The bookshelf collapsed on them both in answer.

The next time, Daniel didn't get out of bed at all.

🧵 Outlander_Starz: The uniforms and dinners of the 1770s are worlds away from the 1980s world Brianna inhabits. Read how Director Jan Matthys found people's behavior in the different time periods influenced his directing style below.

What I like about working in all these time periods is the pace and etiquette that comes with it. I was so happy to work with Danielle Berrow, who is a writer and producer but also a historian. It's amazing how much she knows about courtesy and politeness. In the 1700s, sometimes I felt the need to pace up the scene but it just wasn't possible. They had to take their hat off. They had to take their hat under their arm. They had to bow. In those times, life went slower due to these rules.

I even found myself framing differently in the two time periods. I went slightly wider in the 1700s to show these beautiful full costumes. In the 1980s, it's more about close-ups and facial expressions... It happened subconsciously, that the time period was dictating my visual style. — JAN MATTHYS, DIRECTOR

🧵 Outlander_Starz: When we re-encounter Jane and meet Fanny this episode, the costumes are quite different from what we saw back at the brothel! Hear from Costume Designer Trisha Biggar below.

The brothel that we first see Jane in is actually a high-class brothel for officers. Her clothes there were silk. By the time her journey has taken her to the camp to seek William, she's still wearing silk, but it's slightly more worn. Then she ends up working the laundry in workaday linen.

For little Fanny, we used sweet and pretty colors like blues and pinks with floral decoration. When it became apparent many scenes would be outside, we made and embroidered a gilet from a vintage blanket to keep her warm. — TRISHA BIGGAR, COSTUME DESIGNER

🧵 Outlander_Starz: Rob's hopes and dreams weren't the only things smashed this episode... the Land Rover saw a bit of damage as well.

Said Chris Fulton, "It was freezing cold, so l think the temperature had something to do with it. I skidded up, got out, and I think I just slammed the door a little too hard. Because it was so cold, l'm going to say that the glass was freezing and shattered. Sorry!" A worthy sacrifice for an epic scene, if you ask me.

Charlie Kelly - Character Analysis as the Understimulated Self

Please read this disclaimer / introduction post first

The first to be analysed will be the Understimulated Self as seen through our friend Charlie Kelly. Kohut begins by explaining that in childhood, understimulated individuals were likely neglected by their selfobjects, which we see in Charlie’s upbringing. His mother is seen repeatedly putting her energy into other men and Charlie has no father figure to fill that hole Bonnie is leaving.

Kohut goes on to explain how throughout their lives, understimulated individuals will seek any kind of stimuli that will create a “pseudo-excitement” that wards off an internal sense of deadness. This is the main attribute that places them under the definition of ‘understimulated’. He describes how this begins in childhood and continues through into adulthood if not treated in some way, which we can see as Charlie’s tendency for huffing glue, drinking and other drugs that persists from a very early age (S06E13: A Very Sunny Christmas), through his adolescence (S01E03: Underage Drinking: A National Concern) and into adulthood (see: all 16 seasons).

Kohut also describes stimulus seeking in adulthood in the form of sexual stimulus, which is something we do see Charlie engaging in with Ruby Taft in “Charlie and Dee Find Love” (S08E04), with Dee in “The Gang Misses the Boat” (S10E06), and with Tatiana in “The Gang Hits the Slopes” (S11E03), however he doesn’t exhibit this behaviour to the same extent as the rest of the gang due to his series-long infatuation with the waitress. Specifically with Ruby Taft, we see Charlie actively using her for his own sexual pleasure & gain to make the waitress jealous with little to no regard for her feelings. While you can argue that Charlie only slept with her to emotionally manipulate the waitress, I would argue that Charlie would have only needed to sleep with her once to achieve this goal; rather, he was simultaneously exploiting Ruby for his own sexual pleasure.

Kohut also describes adult stimulus seeking in the form of gambling. While we don’t see Charlie gambling habitually like Frank does, we do see him being incredibly reckless with Frank’s money and his own when he manages to save any. In “Dennis and Dee Go on Welfare” (S02E03) we watch Charlie abuse his access to Frank’s wealth for his and Mac’s personal gain, and to abuse the aforementioned stimuli by buying copious amounts of alcohol, drugs and sex workers. In “The Gang Gets Stranded in the Woods” (S06E11) we see Charlie explicitly gambling his own money and spending it irresponsibly in both the casino and at the charity event with Dennis after winning $15,000. You can also argue that Charlie saying ‘yes’ to everything in this episode is its own form of gambling through risk-taking behaviour.

The final type of stimulus seeking Kohut describes is in the form of hypersociability. While Charlie is not someone with a large collection of friends, we do see how he becomes incredibly jealous when someone he’s attached to chooses someone else over him, how he deludes himself into thinking that people who dislike him are actually his friends, and how he will do very drastic things to get people who hate him to like him; most notably the waitress.

While Charlie is seen continuously trying to gain the Waitress' affection and attention throughout the show, a notable example of Charlie’s need to be liked away from the Waitress is when Schmitty is re-initiated into the gang in “The Gang Gets a New Member” (S06E08). We see that while Charlie initially joins in with Mac and Dennis in making fun of Dee’s ambition to find her old acting teacher, as soon as Mac and Dennis kick Charlie out of the gang in favour of Schmitty, not only is he incredibly hurt, but he quickly rushes to Dee and immediately misinterprets her attempts to get rid of him as her wanting to be his best friend and work together at the school. Examples outside of the Waitress in Charlie's need to be liked are important to demonstrate how this behaviour is not just due to his infatuation, but rather a personality trait that would categorise him as Understimulated.

It is worth noting that I think all the members of the gang could easily be interpreted as Understimulated selves, however I do think Charlie fits it the best, and for the purposes of this analysis I’ll be doing one member per personality.

Shishido: Three days before the day the episode was scheduled to air, I could see mountains of paper on Hiramatsu-san's desk - it made me worried.

Oguro: But Hiramatsu-san didn't correct skating scenes that much, is that right?

Hiramatsu: No, I did almost none of these. Sometimes, a close-up shot here and there.

Abiko: If we are talking about skating scenes, we have to mention Hisagi Akitsugu-san.

Shishido: There were those cuts [in skating scenes] that we called 'extra cuts' (Editor's note: These are the cuts that the Producer, Otsuka, called 'the in-between cuts' in his interview).

Hiramatsu: When we couldn't use a long shot, we were inserting close-ups instead. In case of close-up shots, it was possible to use sliding (Editor's note: A technique, in which the cell is dragged across the background) and these shots could also be used to fill in time. Hisagi Akitsugu-san was responsible for this job. From episode 3. onward, I think?

Ito: Yes. From episode 3. onward.

Hiramatsu: In episode 3. we still didn't know how to pull it off nicely, and you could see right away that these shots don't really blend in. But gradually, we developed a method how to show these shots, and later on, sometimes it was like 'it's better to use an extra cut here, isn't it?'.

Ito: During the last stage of the production of an episode, when it became clear that Tatenaka-san and Abiko-san wouldn't be able to finish everything on time, Hisagi-san drew storyboards and then key animation frames by himself.

Abiko: It was always after we had been working for quite a long time, so Hisagi-san had very little time [to work on his parts].

Next week is rumored to have the porch scene that made lili cry and is full circle for ba and idk how that could be a good/meaningful thing. Considering betty is still interested in Reggie and ep 12 seems to be the one that kj teased for the exploring his sexuality and ba didn't seem that interested in each other this ep. Sure. Archie could randomly promise to marry her when they turn 18 but I don't see that. Whatever full circle even means

Indeed. And isn't there some VA teased for 712 too? Then Hiram comes back in 713? I mean, we don't know if the Hiram plot will involve Archie and VA but has it ever not?

Sure, they could have some good scenes next week. They could even kiss, 11 episodes in 😂 . I'd also suspected "full circle" may not be a good thing either, considering how it went the first time. But as I said before, I don't know who these people are. I don't really care what happens between them?

Also, bit of a housekeeping note. In the next week, I have one big pretty emotional family event coming up, it's the last week of work, I'm moving, I have to settle the pets in at their caretaker's house, and I'm flying to family.
