Aside from the endless dad jokes and recollection of his adventures to literally anyone with ears I think Ody would also spending a lot of time just cuddling his family.
Morning kisses for his wife and great big hugs everytime he sees his son.
Referring to Penelope as "my dearest wife" with a cheeky grin to which she replies, " my dearest husband" when they talk.
Cuddles, lots of cuddles, he likes to hear their heart beats as a reminder that they're here, and alive with him, because he made it back home!
I suspect the same with Penelope, she likes when Ody lies down on her lap and she listens to his breathing, as a reminder that he's here, he made it home, alive and well.

I don't think people realize how powerful the notion is that Odysseus rejected immortality from Calypso and what that says about his character and the love for his wife and son.
Odysseus had been to the underworld! He KNOWS what awaits him after death! He has seen those souls wandering about in the dark sometimes even forgotten by people above. He has even spoken with Achilles who told him that he'd rather be the last servant and unimportant and alive than king in the underworld. The proud ACHILLES told him he'd rather be a beggar than dead! Showing indeed Odysseus what it means. Even Eurylochus spewed some facts when he said that "all mortals avert death because it is so scary to them"
Odysseus is not just scared of death. HE KNOWS how it looks like! And despite the fact he is no longer young and in a dangerous situation and knowing what dying looks like he STILL rejected Calypso and immortality just to go back to his wife and child and home!

I can’t hear Odysseus and go “Yeah!! That’s Jorge!!” because like… That’s not Jorge, that’s Odysseus!! You get me? 😭
Like he doesn’t SOUND like Jorge, it’s hard to imagine that’s Jorge singing. Jorge’s such a silly guy, and odysseus is… emo, to say the least

I kinda like how hades and possideon aren't part of god games...
Zeus, hades and possideon feel like incredibly powerful gods- literally in a league of their own...
As sons of chronos I feel like they all share the same levels of power and can't order eachother around-- while the other gods quite clearly don't stand a chance against zeus and are forced to comply with his challenge
None of the other gods liked that athena was "killed", but they were all combined too terrified to stand against him...
Hermes and athena don't directly fade possideon
Nobody fucks with hades at all in any sagas- and I feel like hades genuinely doesn't care that oddyseus is trespassing in the underworld because unlike practically any other mortal who goes down there-- he's not there to cheat hades, he is only there to speak to the prophet, doesn't try to steal his mother back or bring back his men
Hmm wait new hades theory coming to mind...

You know what ? The idea that Odysseus discovered his mother's death by finding her ghost in the Underworld gains a new, even more sad dimension if you assume that Epic follows the canon prescribed by some interpretations of the Odyssey, because according to some version of the story, she didn't just die of grief - she died by walking into the sea after seeing Aeolus' storms blow Odyseus' ships away from shore
Not only did Odysseus' crew get him lost at sea yet again, but they also killed his mom

Very silly thing but I have this Epic stupid hc where when Ody went to Sparta as a suitor (mostly just to watch the chaos) the only thing he knew about Helen was that she was the most beutifull mortal woman in the whole world.
So when they enter and see the whole Spartian Royal Family waiting he sees Penelope and thinks she has to be Helen as she is clearly the prestiest. At this point he still isn't in love. But he is pretty sure she is Helen.
So they keep finding each other and talking and Ody is soon pretty in love and talking all about how he knew Helen was gorgeus but not that she was funny and smart and the guys are like "wow he is already talking to Helen" because the king still didn't made proper introducions so Helen is only talking to the guys she really likes.
Then the official introduction between the suitors and Helen happens and Odyseus fully thinks it's some sort of test and is like "this is not Helen, that's Helen" *points to Penelope who is just there to cheer for her cousin and is pretending to not be disapointed the guy she was talking for weeks was here for Helen* and everyone else is like "what" and Helen is "no that's my cousin Penelope" and Odysseus just blurts out "but they said to look for the most beutifull woman around" Penelope blushes hard. And that's how Odysseus absolutely fails in conquering the heart of Helen of Sparta (and everyone is pretty okay with it).
#epic the musical#odysseus#penelope#odypen#helen of sparta#she deserves to be called and remembered by her real tittle#none of this helen of troy bs for my girl

the internet needs more whimsy. I feel like people also just don't get that retellings WILL usually have changes made to the story. Epic the Musical has a few noticible ones I can list off as someone who used to have a greek mythos hyperfixation but like sometimes you gotta make changes to make things flow a bit nicer.
"i don't like epic: the musical because it doesn't stay true to the original story" "it's inaccurate" "the guy who produced it plays the main character im sick of that in theatre" "its just cringe" SHUT UP!! ohhh my god SHUUUT UP. where is the whimsy? where is the JOY? did it get sucked out of you? do you just hate fun?
#one of the biggest changes I can list is how the sirens were dealt with#in the odyssey odyseus was tied up to the fucking mast as the only one without beeswax in his ears#to sorta be a way for the crew to tell when it was safe to take out theirs#and we all know hwo that went in epic#however that change serviced that narritive and I am not complaining about it

I am genuinely really enjoying seeing people who have clearly never read the Odyssey before reacting to EPIC's Ithaca saga. I haven't listened to EPIC myself (yet) but people keep saying stuff like "Odyseeus built their palace around an olive tree he carved into his and Penelope's marriage bed that's so symbolic" and "He really just murdered all the suitors wouldn't that piss off their parents?" Which are observations and questions that the Odyssey makes incredibly blatantly clear as to the symbolism or the answer because it's a really old poem and subtlety wasn't really Homer's strong suit.
There's something really endearing about seeing people interact with the Odyssey through the same way the Ancient Greeks did - a bard singing the story of Odyseus' nostos.
(I gather the details have changed a little, but that's what happens with oral storytelling, and that's how the Odyssey got created in the first place)
Also as congratulations have my favourite ancient depiction of Odysseus surfing with two amphemorae having stolen Poseidon's trident, being sped along by Boreas, stark naked except for a cloak he's holding onto.
#epic the musical#epic the ithaca saga#in answer to the question “what about the suitors parents being pissed” what happens is they all storm the palace gates#odysseus and laertes go out to meet them#and athena appears and goes#“no. my boy has suffered enough to get here. go home and have new#better sons who arent creepy dicks#also re: oral storytelling#its facinating actually because the odyssey wasnt written by Homer he was just the guy who wrote it down#the story existed since at least 1450 BCE#(fall of troy)#and because we know the very basic rundown of what was happening at a) the Bronze Age collapse and Mycenaean Greece#(when the story is set and it first began circulating)#b) the Greek Dark Ages which werent all that dark they just forgot writing for a bit but did a lot of cultural shifting#and c) the Archaic period which is when Homer wrote it down#we can (roughly) figure out what parts of the Odyssey are probably the oldest#what may have been introduced during the Dark Ages to reflect that cultural shift away from Mycenaean civilisation and towards Archaic#and what was introduced in the Archaic period when Homer got ahold of it#which i think is amazing and facinating#and is (very loosely) what is happening with EPIC#(its not the same because modern people are not the cultural inheritors of a story of our relatively recent ancestors' war and returns)#but the changes being made to reflect the modern audience and fit our time better are#kinda#if it was like the changes made in Ancient Greece it would be like the mentioned places to have their modern names#and the monsters changed slightly to relfect current cultural anxieties which i dont think has happened with EPIC#fel free to corect me though because like i said i havent listened to it yet#the odyssey#homeric epics#tagamemnon#technically
