Hi! Thank you so much, so happy to hear you’re enjoying my Cats stuff!:3
Sadly, the zine plans have been abandoned for quite some time now, got busy with other things and currently I’m focusing on my webcomic Minotaurs Can’t Be Witches. It would have been nice to put something together with the Cats stuff since I made so much of it back around 2020/2021, feels like the moment has passed now though since it’s been so long. x)
But hey, since I haven’t posted anything Cats for like years, have this crude sketch I never posted or finished featuring Cinnamon from MCBW joining dance practice:
Done in 2022 I think???
#epic crossover moment lol#thanks for the ask<3#cats the musical#minotaurs can't be witches#cinnamon#munkustrap#rum tum tugger#mr mistoffelees

Username Fic Game
Tagged by @shadowmaat. Take each letter of your username and rec a fic whose title starts with that same letter! Then feel free to pass it on to your friends.
--
S - Slings and Olive Branches by Gibraltar - The first tale of the Starship Reykjavik. If you love awesome characters with many layers and also some supremely badass moments, Sam's the author you wanna read. Every bit as skilled at character, world and plot building as any professional, Gibraltar's stories of the Reykjavik are funny, heartfelt and Nandi Trujillo will just win you over literally in this first, short story.
L - Land of Song by @b-radley66 - Generally, you know that when B writes anything, it's going to be plot-heavy, dense and guaranteed to require at least one spreadsheet. But the ability to keep all of that not only in-line but also moving forward is a skill not many authors can claim, and B is an expert at it. Plus, his OCs are so good that you'll be hunting various wikis going, "But wait, they're not canon??"
W - When the Lights Come On by @btwxsixesandsevens - A beautiful little original tale set in the Star Wars universe. I love the atmosphere of this one; the way that it correlates so much to memories of my own childhood. Some things are pan universal, I think. And the author is a master worldbuilder who did stunningly cool things with zabrak culture that I still think about regularly.
A - A Higher Power When You Look (Also on Ad Astra) by @daraoakwise - An absolutely, mind-blowingly epic retelling of a lot of the Original Series cast's tales for the AOS. Dara takes a lot of the sillier premises in the AOS line and makes it all make sense. Her character work and world building and plotting are out of this world.
L - Lost… and Found by @shadowmaat - SURGE SQUAD!! Shadowmaat's OC clones (and jedi!) are incredibly charming and this is where the tale begins. Guaranteed if you read it, you'll knock out the whole series and want more. (And I am still excited for the Blackbirds crossover that will one day happen!)
K - Kaminoan Copyright by independent_variables - Awesome world-building, which seems to be a thing for me. LOL! But it's a short, punchy tale about what the chips entailed for the clones and how things change when Anakin -- of all people, but it makes perfect sense! -- finds out about them and word spreads. Sweet ending, too.
E - Every Moment a Step Forward by alyyks - Bail/Bre/Maul is one of the ships/tags I pioneered, so it's an outright thrill everytime someone writes it. And alyyks is an awesome author in general, so not only do you have an awesome author writing my own faves, but the story's excellent. It touches on a Maul who is very much living with his damage, and how important the steady love and support of a family is to his quality of life. Just a psychologically excellent tale.
R - Rest and Ruckus (archive locked) by @sharpest_asp - A gift that made me beam, this one is Corry and Scotty going camping up in the woods of Maine, with all the inherent chaos that usually accompanies those two. Sweet, funny, in-character and atmospheric, it's a quick and lovely jaunt with a bunch of excellent mental images.

(Not all of the items may apply, but) Taya Soune for the character ask??
First impression
Honestly I saw them in like 2013 probably when I was looking at CAFFEIN’s art and… I didn’t really pay them any attention at the time. I didn’t know they were an actual UTAU with a voice and all… But one time I wanted to make a huge vocaloid crossover fic and decided to add “the blue haired girl caffein drew sometimes” and found out they were an NB icon and kinda just fell in love. Also I finally noticed the monocle then too lol. I had a thing for monocles for a while.
Impression now
My skrunkly wrunkly squishy blorbo biggins from my heart. He was also my non-binary awakening and the source of inspiration for a 60k-word fic. He’s bi, he’s shy, he’s ready to cry. He has blue hair, a blue tie, blue pronouns, but is not Miku. He genuinely needs more love. He dresses like a tumblr sexyman. He puts the “sou” in soul. He’s an absolute icon. Slay.
Favorite moment
In the 60k fic I wrote, I like the part where he confesses his feelings for Uta…
Idea for a story
So. Freaking. Many. He’s now my OC Lanyue and his magical escapades are now my original work, Symphony Saga.
Also little snippets like this: Taya loses his monocle and goes on a whimsical adventure. Taya and Ritsu epic romantic tale filled with banter. Taya doesn’t have any green clothes for St. Patrick’s day so he gets locked in the dungeon. When he finally gets green clothes people say he looks like the Onceler.
Unpopular opinion
I don’t know if this is unpopular, but his voice is genuinely amazing. He’s a single-pitch UTAU, yet he has the absolute widest range I’ve ever heard in an UTAU. I still am in constant disbelief that he’s only single-pitch. He slays the low lows and high highs. His voice is incredibly expressive. His falsetto is especially filled with emotion.
Favorite relationship
Taya and Ritsu. I used to ship Taya with Uta Utane, but Uta ended up becoming aro-coded in my mind and I absolutely love the posh gentlemanly Taya and uncouth and wild Ritsu’s dynamic.
Favorite headcanon
I have so many headcanons for him that he literally grew into an OC. Meet Lanyue Fei.

Listen here me out
Security Breach x Bendy and The Ink Machine Crossover AU that im working on.
The basic premise is that Bendy is brought to life, escapes Joey Drew Studios, and takes refuge in the pizzaplex. Glamrock Freddy mistakes him for a new animatronic and befriends him. The glamrocks take care of him, epic found family dynamic moment!
And of course shit gets crazy later on because oh yeah!
Five Nights with Bendy? Bendy Breach? Freddy and the ink machine? Idk i need to come up with a title lol.

RWBY X Justice League... TWO!
Gonna do another liveblog while killing some time. Here goes!
-cut for length-
UHD is 480p? This movie has been out for two weeks and it's not 1080? I thought the first one was only that way bc I got it day-of!
Ugh, I wont get mad over it. The YT edition gave me trouble the last time too - let's just see how it goes.
Recap! Took me a minute to realize this is the Weiss vs Bruce music from the first movie - which is definitely the closest we've gotten to classic RWBY music.
"'Grimm' as in, "The Brothers"?" For half a second I thought she was referring to the Gods of Light and Dark but no as in the authors 'Brothers Grimm' because the DC universe is supposed to be Earth and fairytales are just fairytales here. Are they gonna lean more into the allusion aspect of RWBY et. al now that we have a world where Red Riding Hood and the others are just stories?
Jurassic Park moment with the Pterrorsaur. Except this time they can literally smell fear.
Epic Ruby moment vs the Taijitu (first time in Maya), love how creative the fights are.
Grimm on Earth turn to gunk? Hopefully it's just goo and not regeneration-goo (like the Wyvern 'Blood' in v3).
Ooh, when the Kilg%re/Goliath gets punched the cracks are yellow. Color scheme: red, white, black, yellow.
When I saw the flash of purple tailing Batman I thought TYRIAN!? Nope, it's just a Scorpion with a modified tail... suspiciously like Tyrian's. Guess Watts is involved after all.
Saw this preview clip, but ow. Weiss is still hurting from losing Atlas, and I honestly don't blame her. That was her home, and it's straight up gone. Glad to see this carry through from v9, as well as Ruby's post-renewal mindset.
Voice changer to keep the mystery voice a mystery.
Mmm Flash angst. Reminds me of v9 Jaune. Blond boys get no sleep.
Had to pause on Weiss' contacts screen and I love that shes got all her teammates, all her family, and Maria just, lurking. Lol
Clearly Maria has her own scroll but I do have to wonder how good she is at tech things given she has such a close-cropped image. Or maybe she doesn't give a shit XD.
Love love love that conversation with Klein, I love that this is the direction of Weiss' character arc and I love that daddy issues whammy of 'He abandoned Atlas long before it fell.' 'Do you mean Atlas, or your family?'
Time dilation double pun. The 'when you are needed most' line at the end of v9 and Weiss being the one saying 'we have experience with that' considering one of her glyphs is Time Dilation.
Blake breaking down the door feat. Yang's flirty wink.
XD Ruby entering the portal in style
We finally got a 'not in Kansas anymore' referenceeeee.
Oh, split up along Weiss/Blake and Yang/Ruby this time, glad to see it! Time for sisterly conflict.
Heh. Joker and Harley watching the city burn.
Oh now I see why Blake went to Gotham. Cat. Bat. "This is where he's from. I get it now."
The way Ruby just knew that she'd still be able to move like she did on Remnant. My girl. (Was worried for a sec she was gonna try to Silver Eyes it and that would fail)
"You learn not to question Flash's villain roster." That got a laugh out of me and I don't even know about Flash's lore.
Something about Weiss mentioning "Mr Freeze" while dressed as an Ice Princess is funny to me.
The particles on Blake and Jessica's fist bump :D
Aw man, it IS regeneration goop!
I guess 'consciousness is stored' is how we can get Watts in a post-v9 crossover. Technomagic stuff.
Weiss proving she's the queen.
Hope Cyborg isn't corrupted.
Love this Cobra/Dragonfly grimm. Clip it's wings!
'We need more firepower.' Enter Yang with an epic save.
Hold on, are Yang's flame punches the color of the lesbian flag?
Are we gonna a get a 'speedsters need to slow down' moral here? With Flash also rushing into danger and nearly getting killed?
Anyway, planning session time.
The truth revealed.
Honestly, 'no body no death' kinda applies here like we KNOW that Watts died either burning to death via Cinder's wish or when Atlas fell but he was surrounded by computers at the time as well. It could have literally been the last thing he ever did. (Or he did it during v7 since he already wormed his way into the Atlas network via Jacques).
Via Jacques. Man. Watts really is Weiss's personal villain.
The whole 'transferring consciousness' thing also reeks of the Aura Transfer machines used on the Maidens, but I always assumed that was Pietro's invention so he could give life to Penny. Maybe Watts stole or twisted the concept for his own use.
Yang seeing the Ruby in Flash mmmmm. The way he looks at her arm and asks 'what happened?' and Yang explains how she felt ooooooooo. Flash explaining that Kilgore is no longer in his brain but he hears and sees him all the time.
Blonde PTSD buddies WOOOO-
Meanwhile Ruby and Clark orphan bonding. Not entirely sure how Ruby will take the 'I make my parents proud for fighting for the things they died for'
Also given that some of Summer's first "lines" in the show was Red Like Roses Part 2 "baby please don't do what I did/I don't want you to waste your life in vain"
And on that somber note -break time!

fic 20 questions
1. how many works do you have on Ao3? 127...! I have had the account since 2009, lol.
2. what's your total Ao3 word count? 707,519
3. what fandoms do you write for? Generally I only write for one at a time, which is currently Ace Attorney. Not counting the odd one-offs for ask memes over the years, the other big ones were Arcane, Borderlands, Doctor Who and the wizard books.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
Commutative Law (Arcane)
Window of Opportunity (Arcane)
Where the Air is Rarefied (HP)
Prestidigitation (Arcane)
Contingency Planning (Arcane)
Lmao, 4 of 5 written in 2022. You can see the power of writing m/m in a popular new fandom VS my entire other library at the time. Admittedly at some point I made a concerted effort to try and knock HP down from top spot, which was successful. For now. Jayvik fandom has quieted down a lot.
5. do you respond to comments? Yes. Sometimes it takes a while because if it's a particularly thoughtful comment I try to give a particularly thoughtful reply, and it can take time to gather my thoughts.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I'm going to discount oneshots because the tone in one-shots tends to be more consistent throughout the piece rather than being about the "ending" yknow.
So probably King and Country, a Doctor Who fic cowritten with @go-ldy way back when. Technically a happy ending if you factor in immense amounts of off-screen couples therapy lmao. But we had originally written something much simpler and happier, and it didn't fit the story at all, so we went back and wrote something heavier for the closing chapter, which is why it sticks in my mind.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I think probably Anachronism, the 95k Borderlands epic. I had always had a rough image of the four main characters happy together by the end, and it was also my swansong in Borderlands fandom, so I wanted it to be an optimistic, happy ending (especially in contrast to whatever the hell is going on in the canon there now lmfaoooo). Plus the rest of the fic was quite angsty, and the ending was hopeful and happy.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not in recent memory. Once upon a time I got a couple disgruntled comments in Doctor Who fandom, and perhaps funniest of all found people complaining about my fic on LJ in French, unaware I read French.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope I'm a big baby who gets too embarrassed. I've written some pretty soft-focus M rated stuff but nothing I think could rightly be called smut.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I wrote a short joke crossover between Doctor Who and Inspector Spacetime, the Doctor Who parody from Community. I don't think that one made the leap from Teaspoon to AO3 actually.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, a number of times. It's very flattering. Mostly Borderlands fics and mostly into Russian iirc, but there's been a few over the years. Sometimes people ask, and I say "sure, drop me a link!" and I never hear back, so I'm not sure if they forgot to link or just never finished translating to begin with.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? My longest and best DW fics with @go-ldy way back when! Not so much since.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? I'm gonna be real it always just feels like whatever I'm into at the moment. And, actually, not necessarily something I write fic for -- like Pricefield is an all-timer for me, easy, but I have never written fic and I haven't read all that much either. If I were narrowing to tree, one of "each" lol, probably Doctor/Rose, Pricefield and Narumitsu.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Don't have any. I know I will never finish them (RIP Fixer-Upper and Silly Love Songs) as I've lost interest in those fandoms.
16. What are your writing strengths? I'd like to think I am good at packing emotional and/or character beats into a concise scene or story. Adding missing scenes or elaborating on canon scenes to give some additional depth or meaning without really deviating from the source.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Definitely plot. I will get stumped on the technicalities of things for ages -- I might know an emotional scene I'd like to write, but hell if I know how to get them there. It's why I primarily write one-shots. Also I struggle with any kind of scenery or set description.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I avoid it as much as I can. (Which so far has been entirely, lol.) I don't speak any other languages well enough to write dialogue in them and feel awkward relying on Google translate or hitting up random friends to do that work for me. I am more likely to use the "said something in [language]" approach.
19. First fandom you wrote for? I actually can't be sure but I think it was 101 Dalmatians. The animated one. When I was like, 7.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? I'm gonna cheat and do one per fandom:
Anachronism (Borderlands) -> biggest, most complicated, plotty fic I have ever written, with four main characters and every combination of relationship between them as the focus. Took 3 damn years. Very proud of it.
Unravel (Ace Attorney) -> total recency bias here but I'm very happy with it and it scratched a very particular itch for me, fleshing out a relationship and characters that exist mostly in the fringes of canon, something I used to do lots of but haven't in recent years
Contingency Planning (Arcane) -> an emotional sucker punch fic in my humble opinion, happiest with it
Out of the Howling (Doctor Who, with @go-ldy) -> actually I had a hard time picking a DW fic. But this was our last together and most complex, so it wins. Also the Master is fun as hell to write.
I am supposed to tag people! I am not sure who else has already been tagged. Do it or don't, I'm not your boss, happy new year 🎊 @annalyticall @heavybreathingcatt @sandboxer @mutxnts @tinsnip @tlonista @themirokai

FANFIC TAGGING GAME
I got tagged by my lovely bestie @backtothestart02. Thanks for thinking of me, hun. <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3? - 11 (and at least 4 on ff.net, though I had a few I deleted as well, including my longest story on there out of embarrassment lol)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
168, 530 words
3. What fandoms do you write for?
On Ao3, it was strictly Gertchase from Runaways (Marvel) but I've also written for Gossip Girl & Harry Potter as well.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Most of them are my earlier stuff but there's one that was more recent that people seemed to like my take on a scene. 1. A Place Isn't Home - it's my baby, my first dip into writing fic in YEARS & for a ship that I'd only just gotten into. I put a lot prep & care into it beforehand so I'll always be proud of it considering it's centered around one trope - sharing a bed. lol 2. Lost Moments - doesn't surprise me now since there were lots of missed opportunities for good Gertchase content in S2 so I just had to do a missing moments fic for them 3. Over & Over Again - inspired by the Runaways promo team releasing the first few minutes of S3 before the season dropped & gave me the opportunity to write in Chase's pov which I love since it's easy for me. 4. Maybe I'm Falling - based on the teased bed talk with Gertchase before S2 dropped (which is still a cute scene) but I kinda prefer my version lol And 5. It's Your Call - my two different takes on Gertchase's S2 kiss scene written right after the trailer had been released. And guess what? Neither one was at all like what we got. lmao
5. Do you respond to comments?
Most of the time. Considering kudos are usually the only way I know if people are liking a fic by me, getting any comments on one is kinda a big deal to me cuz I love getting them. lmao
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angstiest ending... Well, even when I write angst, there's generally some kinda hope since I like to write angst with a purpose even if it cuts hard. But since you were my home but now i'm (so) lost is about Future Chase reflecting on Gert's death & deciding to save her, I guess that's the automatic answer. But also, Lost Moments technically since it ends with Gert deciding to get over Chase after his betrayal (I was proud of that chapter tbh)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Ummm, basically the majority of them are happy like I said. lol Maybe I'm Falling is the purest tho since the whole thing is fluffy. hell was the journey but it brought me heaven was pretty cute too imo.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not on Ao3 since like I said, I hardly get comments as it is. But on ff.net... Trust me, I got some flames. It wasn't pretty. lol
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Before I wrote love doesn't know what distance is, the answer would have been a hard no. Mostly because I would always chicken out before I even got started. lol Somehow I convinced myself to get it a proper try on that fic and I didn't hate it??? Do I think I'm the best at it? Still no. But I'm not as scared now. It's pretty basic but at least I did it. lol
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not with my Gertchase fics cuz I suck at that kinda thing but during my Harry Potter days I used to experiment with AU ideas that never went too far before I deleted them. I remember I was gonna use a Real World (yes, the reality show lol) concept for a Harry/Ginny fic that never made it passed Chap 1. lmao
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of...
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Oh, this is so hard these days because younger me would always say Chuck/Blair and they are still up there.... I think Cole/Cassie from 12 Monkeys might be my most epic ship tho, despite me never having written for them before (I wouldn't know where to start tbh) And my heart will always belong to Ron/Hermione too. I love Gertchase but at the end of the day they might actually be more of a top 10 ship for me, I just am able to be inspired to write for them.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The ultimate WIP for Gertchase for me is a post-canon fic that initially was gonna be just a simple proposal but then I wanted to include other stuff like Gert getting pregnant, etc. so it could be a mini fic. But I've just never written it because of lost inspiration (the real life drama of the cast did kinda taint the show a bit at one point but also, the fandom's pretty dead too) That said, never say never. Maybe one day I'll do it. There's scenes I had written for it that I still have somewhere so it's possible. We'll see. lol
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue. lol I know it is because that's how I start writing my fics. I tend to write scenes out like a script first because it's how I'm able to start visualizing the rest of it. Rarely does a fic of mine not start with a quote or at least a train thought by a character. I also like to think that when I do write angst I'm not afraid to go for the jugular so to speak because it's meant to hurt BUT I do always want it to have a purpose and move the story along. Also, apparently when I'm really feeling a chapter I'm not afraid to have a big word count. I can't help it. lol
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
The actual writing process. lol It doesn't always come naturally to me. I don't usually write anything all in one go unless I'm truly feeling it. Also, descriptive stuff. There's a reason why dialogue is my strength. It's writing around all that I struggle with a lot.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Um, it's intimidating. lol I did consider doing it a few times because Gert is fluent in Spanish & she was supposed to tutor Chase for it so I always thought it would be fun to tease that in a fic or two but never did. I don't want to get the translation wrong.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter. Because I was obsessed with Ron/Hermione. And yet if you looked at my old ff.net account you'd assume it was Harry/Ginny because I deleted all my RHr related fics. lol
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Omg, the hardest question. lol Most of them are all my bbs for different reasons. I do think my mini The College Woes trilogy is some of my strongest work to date tho because all of that is pure me going for it since it's all post-canon. I did research and had fun with the process.
Anyway, I don't really have anyone to tag myself because I don't know who follows me and wants to answer these questions but hey, if you write fic and see this, consider yourself tagged! Also, even tho I haven't written in a while & might never again in the foreseeable future, if you like Gertchase, my A03 account is When_the_Day_Met_Night21 :)

Fic Writer 20 Questions
Thanks to @merlyn-bane for tagging me! <3
1.) How many works do you have on ao3
Currently 56!
2.) What's your ao3 word count?
183,482
3.) What fandoms do you write for?
At this moment, it's Star Wars all day every day. Specifically into the prequel era and Star Wars Rebels related stuff.
4.) What are your top five fics by kudos?
Twenty-Two - an Enjoltaire fic I wrote when I was 20 so let's not talk about that
it's a gift to be truly known - skybridger fic, I'm thrilled to see it this high :')
held like a dream - codywan, interesting it's done better than the others
Lost in the Supermarket - another enjoltaire from the wee age of 20, don't look at me
beholder - codywan, I do really really love this one
5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, mostly! I don't always because it gets mixed up with my anxiety and I feel overwhelmed and pressured. So I live by a policy of "respond if I am feeling it, if not nbd."
6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I genuinely can't think of anything that has an angsty ending. Angsty middles, sure, but I'm a happy ender. I guess it's like poetry, it rhymes (shatterpoint lineage fic) is a little bittersweet?
7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hard to choose? I've written some pretty sappy fluff. I've decided on frame the halves, call them a whole (codywan) because you get a good, way pre-O66 fix it that means no one I like died PLUS force sensitive clones! :)
8.) Do you get hate on fics?
I don't believe I ever have!
9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Haha yes. It's generally queer and pretty tame in terms of kink.
10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Nope, never have.
11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so! My fics are pretty mid-tier at their highest popularity so I don't think anyone really cares to lol
12.) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes and I'm still so, so flattered and thrilled by it. :''') I believe I had one (or even two???) old Les Mis fic translated before, but I don't see it linked on ao3. And then there's this absolute beauty:
Comme de la poésie, ça rime
13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Not technically, but Haley and I have a draft we lovingly refer to as only fan-akin, doc titled (by Haley, credit where due) "the west wing but if sam married the hooker and became president instead of dropping that storyline and leaving after s3"
14.) What's your all time favorite ship?
Maybe probably Billy/Teddy from Young Avengers. They're my boys!!!
15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Baby girl, I have WIPs you don't even know. I wish I could write the jedi temple epic I wanted to, but my thoughts and feelings have changed so much the whole concept has collapsed and what I have is too messy to use elsewhere. And then there's the courferre soulmate fic I dearly meant to finish and just never will since the interest dried up.
16.) What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue. That's the easiest part for me to write.
17.) What are your writing weaknesses?
Uh well first of all, actually getting myself to write is a big fucking challenge of mine. But really, the spacial stuff and descriptions kill me. Please know that if you ever read non-dialogue, non-thought parts that you like, it probably took me like 10 writing passes to get it just right. I live in a state of editing and reediting.
18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I just don't! I am willing to add in as much as I know or easy words-- like a bonjour or, if we're talking Star Wars, sprinkles of words like vode. But if someone is talking in sentences, I will straight up do "Sabine said something in Mando'a" or "Stop that, Sabine told him in Mando'a." Easier for me that trying to do bad translations.
19.) First fandom you wrote for?
Young Avengers!
20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?
This is ever changing. While I probably go back and read it's a gift to be truly known the most, I love a single slow desire for it being the best, biggest world building I've done. Plus it's f/f and I need more of that in my writing life
I think everyone ever has been tagged already, but if not! Tags for you: @afoundling @happybean17 @tired-bshocked @goddammitjim

Nicole I am drowning in bsg feels rn. I’d be mad at your ‘cept it hurts so good. Why does this show have us by the gonads so??
There's just so much, SO MUCH, after all this time. Few shows really get that combination of feeling very Epic and grand and about these large ideas of humanity but also so small and intimate with its individual character arcs, and they are all *so* complex and layered and horrible and beautiful people.
(Just seeing every character pop up in that fanvid, major and minor, gave me a rush of feels! Protect all of my babies, all of them!)
Few shows have been so grim and bleak in places without IMO crossing the line into utter hopelessness and still finding joy and connection and redemption.
It strikes that balance of being a sci-fi/genre show with ambitions (cough pretentions) of being a Serious Prestige Drama before that sort of crossover was being attempted anywhere else, and I dunno if anyone's done it better since. You can fire up almost any individual episode and get a tightly contained story despite it also being heavily serialized.
Also what a goddamn cast constantly elevating the writing and making it more real, the writing was *good* in comparison to most shows but they also trusted their actors and even some of the long-running directors to question things and ad-lib stuff and it was almost always for the better. Just LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE casting, writing, social commentary that will never quite be as relevant again.
And even as much as people hate the ending/final season I'll always defend like 80% of it; they may not have fully stuck the landing but the ideas and heart and yeah the weird religiosity behind it are very Valid. They went in some crazy directions and took risks without always knowing where they'd end up, but I do think 4 seasons and a planned(ish) ending put a good limit on how off the rails it was capable of going compared to some shows lol.
BEAR GODDAMN MCCREARY.
It's hard to be the kind of show that's so many things to different people, where everyone has different entry points in the ensemble that they latch onto (fave character, fave ship, the action/military stuff vs the political machinations vs robots with feeeelings and flawed prophets). And they all had their moments to shine at some point.
I say I'll never love another show like BSG again because to randomly paraphrase BoJack Horseman: "That kind of love you only get when you're young and stupid - I'm not gonna have it again." Like THAT IS HOW I FEEL ABOUT BSG BEING MY ONE TRUE FANDOM. 😄 Other things may come along that are objectively "as good" or better, but I doubt I'm ever going to be as invested and active in any fandom as I was when BSG was airing and I was up in every discussion thread writing essays about the fragile body of Gaius Baltar. I've gotten older, fandom/media/the internet have all changed. It really is forever *the* TV experience for me, even when I'm not talking about it as much.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @cinematicnomad
How many works do you have on ao3? Erm … 241
What's your total ao3 word count? 1,072,985
What fandoms do you write for? At the moment? Stranger Things, previously The Witcher, The Magicians, Teen Wolf, Suits and some smaller fandoms as well
Top five fics by kudos
Rule 520.4 (Suits, Mike x Harvey)
Spontaneity's Reward (Suits, Mike x Harvey)
Ink (Suits, Mike x Harvey)
Speaking of Happiness (Suits, Mike x Harvey)
High Speed (Suits, Mike x Harvey)
Do you respond to comments? I do now, I didn't really before. And now I'd fee weird going back to all those comments I didn't reply to.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably Whittemore!, because it was Jackson with no happy ending working at Wolfram and Hart in the Angel universe … it was short but not happy.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh all of the others except that one. I am a big fan of happy endings.
Do you get hate on fics? At one point I did. I multi-ship in the Teen Wolf fandom and had someone come onto my fic and leave epic amounts of hate. When I locked down my fics, they found me here on tumblr and started sending me anon hate here. But it didn't really make an impact. I'm too old and jaded for that bullshit lol
Do you write smut? Yep! Will happily write smut
Craziest crossover Teen Wolf and The Santa Clause
Have you ever had a fic stolen? To an extent, yes. I have a fic 'A King for Mike's Queen' where Mike goes out in drag and someone found a fic VERY similar to mine out on AO3 … I believe they even took the name I gave Mike and used it too
Have you ever had a fic translated? Yeah, I think I've had a couple translated to Russian before.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before? I have, on a couple of occasions.
All time favourite ship? To write or to read? Either way, I can't pick just one, so I'm just pass.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have one from the Criminal Minds fandom that I wish I could finish, but … I don't think I will. I still think about it, though. :)
What are your writing strengths? I think I'm really good at building a scene, building a world.
What are your writing weaknesses? There are words or phrases that I tend to overuse - and I repeat myself sometimes. And I like the elipsis a lot lol
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I'm not totally against it, altbough scrolling between the noteswhere the translation might be and the fic could be daunting. If there's context, sure. But I'm also just fine with 'he said in [language]' in lieu of dialogue in another langauge.
First fandom you wrote in? Buffy: the Vampire Slayer. I wrote so much in that and posted it to sites that no longer exist LOL Thankfully, because they were horrid.
Favorite fic you've written? Favorite?? I don't know that I could pick one - I have a few that I can think of that have a really special place in my heart but they're all my faves because they all helped me grow as an author. Cheesy answer, but there you go LOL
tagging!! Anyone who wants to do this.

Ok! Time for some SPOILER FREE Mario movie impressions!! I'll post plenty of more detailed thoughts later, of course, but these are general thoughts about its quality. Of course this is still very long because I always get carried away, lol
So, I had a great time, but I can definitely see where some of the criticisms come from. Let's get the less good stuff out of the way first. The plot is nothing to speak of, it's basically a video game plot which... whatever, there are actual Mario games out there that have better story and dialogue and themes than this, but at the same time I don't see a problem with this approach? I've seen people bringing up Super Paper Mario (which as you may know is my favorite Mario game) as evidence that Mario can have a good story around him but at the same time, like. This is an origin story, and they wanted to tell a fairly basic story that resembles the incredibly basic plot of the VAST MAJORITY of Mario games and that's fine, they didn't need to pull an epic story about ancient prophecies and mystical macguffins and doomed lovers out of their ass. It's fine y'all. They can save epic RPG plots for sequels.
The dialogue is serviceable. I know it's a kids' movie and whatever (which is almost always a poor excuse for whatever it's defending) but there were plenty of moments where the characters basically hit you over the head with the themes or state exposition so bluntly I thought it was leading into a joke. That made the moments where certain characters started to gel with each other and have naturalistic and endearing dialogue stand out all the more, and yet those charismatic moments are over almost as soon as you realize they're happening.
Overall I think the movie's rapid-fire pace is what hurts it the most. We are given very little time to sit with these charming character interactions, or scenes where a sense of wonder is evoked, before it's on to the next colorful and action-packed setpiece. On the one hand it's nice to have a movie with such a pared down runtime, but I think a little bit of extra space and breathing room in there could have done wonders in getting people who only know Mario as the funny Wahoo man who lives in the Nintendo to buy into the appeal of these characters and their world. I guess they thought kids couldn't pay attention in quiet moments or something, but again, give kids a little credit.
All that aside, the movie's strengths are many, in my opinion: outstanding animation and design, attention to lush visual detail, creating a Mushroom Kingdom that maintains a sense of magical bizarreness while actually seeming like a real place that people live in, and a sense of sincerity to the whole enterprise with a minimum of irony and self-distancing snark. It's also a very good, fun and refreshing take on some of the characters and their relationships - although, again, I just wish there was more screentime for it. I'll go into more detail when I talk spoilers later.
I've seen some snippets of criticism which I will say I disagree with, which is... People are justifiably cynical and tired of the Space Jam 2s and Ready Player Ones of the world where the creators are like "Look at all these nerdy references!! Look at all the IP we got access to, PLEASE POINT AND CLAP" and saying this movie is the same type of thing, but... Idk in my opinion there's a huge difference between a massive crossover of shallow nerdy references, and a movie based on one single franchise making a bunch of deep cuts that fans will recognize. Like yes there are references to other Nintendo properties but those are all subtle background things and sensibly contained to the Brooklyn portions of the movie.
Listen, I know Nintendo isn't my friend, they are out to make money and in a very real sense we ARE being advertised to... the Kart portions felt especially like "Hey did you ever buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe yet??" Still, I think between the outstanding musical score and all the deep-cut references, this movie was obviously made by people with a deep love and care for the Mario franchise who were excited to work on this project. So in a sense it's kind of an ad for Nintendo's games rather than some pure work of art free from ulterior motives, but one that comes from a place of sincerity and care. If you want to be maximum cynical you could view that as even more insidious, but idk... relax and have some fun, go play some Mario Party.
It's not an advertisement for those of us who are already bought in. And maybe that's the major disconnect with some critics, which isn't to write them off as elitist, but just an attempt at explaining the difference in fan reception vs critical reception. Some people feel like they're being advertised to while others feel like they're being treated and the video game world they love is being respected. The idea that there are people, adults, who take video game IP this seriously, so much that we've pretty much already played all the games being referenced, is either hard to believe, or seen as even more cringey than being into Marvel movies or something. But there are plenty of us, and we know what we're getting into and are excited to see it.
Some of us are even Donkey Kong fans in particular and this is the best/most content we've gotten in years so LET'S GO TEAM KONG

been fucking around with ChatGPT to produce interesting premise's for Touhou crossovers. Here's one I got for Star Wars:
"In the mystical realm of Gensokyo, where humans and yokai coexisted in an intricate balance, there lived a powerful and enigmatic being known as Yukari Yakumo. Known for her ability to manipulate boundaries, she was renowned for her wisdom and unpredictable nature. One day, Yukari found herself pondering the fate of the young shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei, who had been chosen to carry the weight of Gensokyo's balance on her shoulders.
As she observed Reimu's tireless efforts in maintaining peace, Yukari grew increasingly concerned. She knew that the world beyond Gensokyo held vast possibilities and challenges that Reimu had yet to encounter. With the Clone Wars raging in a distant galaxy, a bold idea struck Yukari's mind. If she could send Reimu to the Star Wars galaxy, she could provide her with an unparalleled opportunity for growth and knowledge.
With a gentle smile, Yukari approached the young shrine maiden. "Reimu," she said, her voice carrying an air of mystery, "I have an extraordinary journey prepared for you. In a faraway galaxy, a conflict is brewing, and your presence there could shape the course of events. I shall open a portal to the beginning of the Clone Wars, where the Jedi and Sith are engaged in an epic struggle. There, you will learn and grow in ways beyond your imagination."
Reimu looked at Yukari, her eyes filled with curiosity and a touch of apprehension. "But why, Yukari? What purpose would such a journey serve?" she asked, her voice tinged with both uncertainty and excitement.
Yukari paused for a moment, her gaze fixed on the horizon. "Reimu, you are destined for greatness, but greatness can only be achieved through adversity. By immersing yourself in a conflict of such magnitude, you will gain wisdom, strength, and perspective that can never be obtained within the confines of Gensokyo alone. You will face challenges that will test your resolve and push you to your limits. And in doing so, you will discover the true extent of your power."
Reimu listened intently, her trust in Yukari outweighing any doubts she may have had. She understood that her mentor's intentions were rooted in a profound belief in her potential. "I will go, Yukari," she declared, determination shining in her eyes. "If this is the path you have set before me, then I will embrace it wholeheartedly."
Yukari nodded, her smile widening. "Remember, Reimu, this journey is not just for your growth alone. As you navigate the galaxy far from home, you may also bring light and hope to those caught in the midst of darkness. Your unique abilities as a shrine maiden will be a beacon of solace and guidance in troubled times. Embrace this chance to forge new alliances and make a lasting impact."
With a wave of her hand, Yukari opened a swirling portal before Reimu. "May the Force be with you, young shrine maiden," she whispered, her voice carrying a hint of mystery. Reimu stepped forward, her heart filled with a mixture of trepidation and excitement, ready to embark on a journey that would forever change her destiny.
And so, Reimu Hakurei vanished into the portal, leaving Gensokyo behind as she embraced the unknown of the Star Wars galaxy, where her trials and triumphs would shape her into a formidable force for both worlds."
It is an AI and whatnot, so obv not perfect. However, as I said, more a premise than anything else. If anyone wants to take this and expand upon it as a full on fanfic, be my guest! Dont worry about credits or anything lol. I got this from ChatGPT for god's sake 😅

Howdy! I got a a gift card for the nintendo switch for christmas but don't know what to use it on. Would you recommend any games? I know you play a variety.
Oh! Sure thing! I'm flattered to even be considered for something like that lol
Considering I finished playing it only minutes ago, the first thing that comes to mind is the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which probably needs no introduction, but just in case: they're part visual novel, part puzzle/logic games where you play as a defense lawyer solving elaborate murder mysteries. Very funny, feels like watching a goofy anime except you get to solve the mysteries yourself.
Next, here's some great indie titles I personally have downloaded on my Switch:
Undertale (& Deltarune chapters 1+2): undeniable masterpieces. If you haven't already played them you really should. They're short, heartfelt RPGs with memorable characters, challenging but fun bullet hell-style combat, and stories so good they've basically had an effect on the entire video game medium. I love them from the bottom of my heart.
Hades: another masterpiece you've surely already heard of, but worth recommending anyway. It's a punishingly hard roguelike where you repeatedly try to battle your way out of the underworld, but the story and characters--all drawn from Greek mythology--are exquisitely crafted and incredibly rewarding to uncover. (I haven't technically played this one myself but I've watched my partner put hundreds of hours into it--plus there's a sequel on the horizon!)
Ori and the Blind Forest (and sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps): incredibly fun, fast-paced, and beautifully animated Metroidvania where you play as an agile little light spirit trying to save your forest home. Story's very dialogue-light but epic and emotional; you may cry.
Crypt of the Necrodancer: unbelievably fun rhythm-based dungeon crawler where you fight your way through monsters and undead by moving and attacking to the beat. The story is charming, too, but the gameplay and music alone make this one a must-try. (Note: if you prefer, there's a Zelda spinoff called Cadance of Hyrule that's a crossover with this game. Same type of gameplay, but a little more forgiving, and also Zelda flavored. :3)
CrossCode: wildly underrated action RPG about a girl who wakes up mute and amnesiac inside an MMO world and has to uncover its secrets with the power of friendship and punching things with chakrams. I love these characters so hecking much and the combat in this game is really difficult but also incredibly satisfying to master. Also features some great puzzles and tricky platforming.
Petal Crash: a charming little arcade puzzler where you move colorful blocks to make chains and earn points/clear the board. There's a story mode where you can play through as different characters, and they're all super cute and funny. (iirc, the dialogue is all written by the creator of the webcomic Paranatural, and it shows!)
Some other random indie titles that come to mind:
LIMBO: a short, atmospheric horror platformer with some memorably dark, unsettling moments and pretty satisfying puzzles for such a short game. I first played this back in high school and for some reason it still sticks with me after all these years. It's also like $2 in the eShop right now, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I believe the game Inside is from the same studio, and I remember enjoying watching a playthrough of it years ago, but I haven't played that one myself.)
Stardew Valley: I've never played this one on console, but I currently have 225 hours logged for it on Steam lol. It's a farm sim, but it also has a pretty robust cast of townsfolk who are really fun to get to know, and plenty of other things to occupy your time as well. Mining, dungeon delving, artifact collecting, and a nice little story about sticking it to the evil corporate overlords and bringing your community together.
Terraria: ditto to Stardew Valley, also with about 200 hours in my Steam account. This one is a 2D adventure platformer with procedurally generated worlds that you explore for resources that you can build or craft into whatever you like: combat gear, homes for your NPC neighbors, forbidden magicks to summon alien horrors--you name it! Can be played kind of sandboxy like a 2D Minecraft, or there is a long series of challenging and interesting bosses to encounter if you feel like uncovering secrets!
Untitled Goose Game: short puzzle game where you play as a goose gently terrorizing a suburban neighborhood. You've seen the memes. It was popular for a reason though--very charming and fun!
Castle Crashers: a classic beat-em-up with humor as cartoony as its visual style. Play as colorful knights on a quest to retrieve four princesses from an evil necromancer. Leans a tad much on toilet humor and the combat can be a little repetitive, but overall very silly and slapstick and super fun to play with friends.
Wingspan: this one's a little out of left field but I just remembered this is on Switch! I have the physical board game this is based on, and I highly recommend that, so I imagine the digital version is worth a look, too. It's a card-based strategy game where you collect bird species to compete for the best sanctuary. Once you get the hang of it, you can play a whole game in 30-45 minutes. Also, the art's gorgeous and the developers are based in my home state!
Aaaand some other misc classics worth mentioning:
Katamari Damacy: roll a sticky ball around and pick up objects. Then pick up bigger objects. Bigger! BIGGER!
Portal & Portal 2: solve puzzles with portable wormholes and survive the attentions of a mad AI. Excellent puzzles and legendary characters and humor.
most old Final Fantasy titles are available for relatively cheap, including 7, 8, and 9! I'm a fan of all of them. :}
Okami: adding this one last minute because I didn't realize it had a Switch port!! INCREDIBLE action rpg where you play as a sun goddess in the form of a wolf, fighting epic monster battles and restoring peace to ancient Japan. Gorgeous, fun, iconic.
...
Uh, and that's all I can think of for now! I tried to include some lesser-known stuff as well as some classic gems, so hopefully something catches your eye! I'm a little surprised the list is so short, but when it comes down to it I'm actually pretty Basic when it comes to my taste in video games lol--largely Pokemon and Zelda outside of this list tbh.
Merry Christmas and have fun gaming, anon!!
#ask#Anonymous#long post#tried to use pics of actual gameplay for most of them#but to be frank some of these games have combat/action that ONLY looks flattering while in motion lol#so where still screenshots completely fail to do the game justice I just went with promo images instead :P

Best New Heavy Metal Releases Week of January 13, 2023
Slowly but surely, getting back to normal with a much larger week of releases. Not just the amount but the quality took a large step up as well. Probably the most notable thing about this week was the variety. There is a little something for everyone with no genre really dominating the week. So let’s get started with some highlights.
Concrete Age-Bardo Thodol (Thrash/Melodic Death)**
This would have been the pick of the week from week one of the year and will be added to my Spotify playlist of “Picks of the Week” for 2023. Probably the best execution I have ever run across of mixing Melodic Death Metal and Thrash Metal. Throw in some symphonic folk inspired passages here and there and this album will have a lot of crossover appeal.
Obituary-Dying of Everything (Death)**
What can you say about Obituary that hasn’t already been said? One of the standard bearers for the genre for a very long time and I think this could be the strongest album they have released in quite some time. If you are a fan of Death Metal I’m sure you have already heard this so me talking about it is probably pointless…lol
Screamer-Kingmaker (Heavy)**
The Traditional Metal genre seems to get better and better all the time and I am big fan of the genre overall so this is great news for me and people like me. This is just extremely well done with catchy songs, killer riffs and sing along choruses. This is simply a “good time” type of album.
Eternal Conflict-Spark of Water, Pt. 1 (Melodic Death/Symphonic)**
This one surprised me with just how many symphonic elements are added to this band’s version of Melodic Death metal. This isn’t light flourishes or touches here. This seriously sounds like they need to tour with a full symphony and I have to admit, the more I listen to it, the better the album seems to get and the more I really like it. If they ever decide to give up on Metal, I could see this band having a very lucrative career in doing musical scores for movies.
Drakwald-Black Moon Falls (Melodic Death/Folk/Pagan)**
Man, are there ever a ton of layers on this album, but all of them work so well together that the overall effect can be flat out addicting. At its core it is still some killer Melodic Death Metal but the folk inspired sections add that extra touch to break things up a bit and give you that slight moment of reprieve before punching you square in the chest with some amazing riffs and lead guitar work.
That will do it for this week. Go see some of these bands live if you can and above all buy some merch! Until next week, and as always,
BANG THY HEAD!!!
All worthy of a listen if you like the genre
*= standout in that genre
**=best of the week regardless of genre
Best of the Week

Beyond the Black-Beyond the Black (Symphonic Metal/Heavy/Hard Rock)**

8, 13, and 14 for the writing ask game! -River
8. do you know what you want to write next?
Oh I have a whole list of things I wanna write when LLAU is done. In no particular order:
The exchange fic I have due in January. This one will probably get written actually before LLAU is over because, you know. Deadlines.
Building Better Worlds, a HCxEmpires crossover rewrite fantasy epic. If you've read TFatBatG, it has similar vibes.
Rejoice! And Fall to Your Knees, a RentheKing fic I started writing the night that arc ended
Normal People in Hell, the "Bdubs discovers stantwt" crack-taken-seriously horror fic. I have a couple thousand words of this one as well.
The House that [???] Built, a Last Life absurdist comedy-horror roommate AU about the Southlanders sharing a house.
Devil Doesn't Bargain, a S1 ESwap fic about Shrub, Joey, and Xornoth.
There's a bunch of other stuff on my to-write list but unless I get possessed it'll probably be one of these that makes it to AO3 first.
13. is there any genre you don't think you could ever write?
Romance lol. It's not something I have experience with, I don't read a lot of it, and I seriously doubt my ability to write a compelling romance. This is why all I write is genfic.
14. is there a recurring plotline/detail in your stories?
"Guy who's morally grey and made questionable choices that they refuse to admit are Wrong and constantly double down on until everything blows up in their face and they're forced to confront the ruins of their life, a moment in which they're faced with an old friend who they've hurt immensely with their actions who, despite everything, reaches out a hand to them and allows them to find redemption." < You may think this trope is hyper-specific but I've written it like 5 times now and I will write it again.
Writing ask game!
