Amazon has come under fire for a second time this week, and the most recent controversy involves a Jewish activist who accused the e-commerce giant of having a “big, giant Jewish problem” for allegedly canceling her talk to company employees but allowing anti-Israel rapper Macklemore to address staffers.

Best-selling author and renowned speaker Samantha Ettus revealed in an Instagram video on Tuesday that she was invited by Amazon a few months ago to speak to an unofficial group of Jewish employees at the company. However, her talk was eventually canceled because the human resources department at Amazon decided she was “too controversial,” said the Harvard graduate and former TED Talk speaker. 

A few months later, Ettus explained, Amazon invited Macklemore to speak to employees, reportedly at an official seminar for Amazon employees who are suffering from addiction or in recovery, in honor of September being National Recovery Month. 

The “Hind’s Hall” singer has publicly spoken about his alcohol and drug addiction, but has also publicly accused Israel numerous times of committing a “genocide” of Palestinians during the Jewish state’s ongoing war with Hamas terrorists, which began after last year’s Oct. 7 massacre in Israel. Hamas-led terrorists murdered 1,200 people in southern Israel and took over 250 hostages, including Amazon employee Alexander Trufanov, who remains in captivity. Amazon has so far not publicly commented on Trufanov’s kidnapping.

Macklemore accused Israel of “genocide” when he performed at a “Palestine Will Live Forever” benefit concert last month, which took place just weeks after his pre-taped, Zoom seminar for Amazon employees, according to the New York Post.

“Despite the Jewish people’s pleas that this is an antisemite, you can’t have him speak, the employees are up in arms, [Macklemore] is allowed to speak,” Ettus said in her Instagram video. “So Macklemore is not controversial but I am … Amazon, you have a huge Jewish problem. What are you going to do about it?”

An Amazon spokesperson responded to Ettus’s accusations on Wednesday in a statement to The Algemeiner.

“Many of these assertions lack important context, and it’s inaccurate and misleading to suggest we tolerate hostility in our workplace,” the spokesperson said. “We realize this has been a difficult time for many, and we remain focused on supporting all of our employees.”

Ettus shared the news the same week that Amazon executive Dr. Ruba Borno appeared in a promotional video for the company wearing a pendant in the shape of Israel that had a Palestinian flag imposed on top. Amazon has since deleted the video but not before the company faced backlash from social media users, who called the video “disappointing and insulting” to Jews, threatened to cancel their Prime subscriptions, and called for Borno’s firing.

Ettus has a Substack called “The Jewsletter” and launched a campaign called New Voices, in which non-Jewish and Jewish celebrities and influencers, including Cindy Crawford and Kevin Nealon, draw awareness to antisemitism. Ettus also co-produced the documentary “Primal Fear: Jews Under Siege.”

She claimed in her Instagram video on Tuesday that Jewish employees at Amazon have been denied the right to form their own employee resource group, also known as an affinity group, even though the company has 13 such groups already, including ones representing Asians, women, military veterans, people with disabilities, Latinos, indigenous workers, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Amazon “refuses to officially acknowledge” Jews and allow them to create an affinity group for themselves because the company believes Jews are “a religion [and] not an ethnicity,” Ettus claimed.

This Tuesday’s election saw the culmination of Republicans’ long-standing effort to attract people of color, with the party tapping into shared feelings of political disenfranchisement and abandonment between working-class Black, white, and Latino or Hispanic voters without college degrees. While diversifying their base was clearly an objective, Republicans also turned “equity” into a dirty word—criticizing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and “woke-ism” to undermine tools Democrats have used to address racial disparities and the inequitable distribution of government resources. 

Meanwhile, racially coded language was utilized along the campaign trial, shocking some voters but rallying others who either appreciated racial tropes or were willing to ignore them in the face of economic plight. Public debates platformed racist tropes such as whether Haitian immigrants ate pets, if immigrants were taking Black jobs, and the dangers rather than the assets of majority-Black cities.

In defeat, Democrats struggled to convince working-class voters of all races that the party’s platform addresses their concerns, likely due to their very targeted focus on the issues of Black and Latino or Hispanic voters. For instance, in the weeks leading up to the election, Vice President Kamala Harris introduced an “Opportunity Agenda” specifically for Black men, including a proposal to provide “1 million loans that are fully forgivable to Black entrepreneurs and others to start a business.” This was in the face of a litany of lawsuits against racially explicit remedies for discrimination. 

Sticking to this brand of identity politics—in which individuals from specific religions, ethnicities, or social backgrounds form exclusive political alliances—may be a reason Democrats lost the race so thoroughly. 

In a social media post, writer Thomas Chatterton Williams wrote, “The fact that so many Americans of all ethnicities, geographies and colors wanted to see Democrats pay a resounding price not just for policy decisions but for a larger circa-2020 indulgence paid to so many deeply unpopular activist perspectives simply has to be taken seriously.” And a pre-election New York Times piece stated that identity politics has lost its influence since the aftermath of George Floyd.  

However, it’s evident that both political parties leveraged identity politics and racism in the 2024 election, particularly with nonracial identities such as educational level. Identity politics is central to our understanding of constituency, so its practice in many forms is not going to go away. So, rather than avoid the topic, reckoning with the racial politics of the 2024 election will help the country move forward.  

What should both parties consider moving forward? 

Through their votes, working-class voters expressed that they’re feeling pain, contradicting economists’ assertions of a supposedly strong economy. Trump already had a commanding hold of white voters at 55% in 2024, and gained significant ground with Latino or Hispanic voters (increasing from 35% in 2020 to 42% in 2024) and Black voters (from 8% in 2020 to 16% in 2024). Much of that gain came from people without a college degree. For voters who never attended college, support for Trump increased from the past election from 54% in 2020 to 62% in 2024.  

People without a college degree are a constituency; they have an identity. People of different races without a college degree—whom we loosely refer to as the “working class”—are ostensibly feeling pain. Factories that left for other countries didn’t just employ middle America white workers—they employed Black, Latino or Hispanic, Native American, and Asian American workers as well. These multiracial workers have been impacted by policies such as North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and they share another identity: underemployed, unemployed, and broke. Not treating them as a unified voting bloc is to miss the mark. Trump’s rhetoric tapped into this multiracial community.  

Discrimination is another source of pain, particularly for Black and Latino or Hispanic voters. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that Black and Latino or Hispanic people face higher unemployment rates compared to white people. This is especially true for women: As of fall 2024, white women’s unemployment rate was 4%, compared to 6.2% for Black women and 5.9% for Latino or Hispanic women. Studies also show discrimination in the justice system, with Black, Latino or Hispanic, and Native American men facing higher arrest and incarceration rates for similar offenses compared to white men. And when they are arrested, they are incarcerated for longer periods: Black men are given sentences 13.4% longer than white men, and Latino or Hispanic men are given sentences 11.2% longer than white men.

Democrats’ rhetoric often treats these policy issues only as a moral ones. But one of the most difficult challenges that we face as a country is understanding how discrimination not only robs specific groups of attaining well-being, but also throttles economic and societal growth for us all. Equity is not a zero-sum game, yet Democratic and Republican rhetoric treats it as such. The proverbial pie can grow by addressing inequity across race and place. 

The quality of our social, economic, and political futures is inextricably linked to how inclusive our neighborhoods, local economies, and schools are and will become. The country can easily slip back into a recession if we’re not careful to maximize the talents of all Americans. Reckoning with discrimination isn’t divisive—it gives us an opportunity to grow as a society. 

The voting public and both parties must demand concrete policy solutions that will make all Americans economically secure. Discrimination isn’t just about hatred. It also commonly comes in the form of abandonment and neglect. Americans need and want a policy agenda that uplifts people of all races who have been denied opportunities to gain economic security to advance their well-being. The voting behavior of working-class Latino or Hispanic and Black men shows they understand this. 

Equity isn’t a dirty word to be avoided. Quite the contrary, it’s a quintessential American concept. Equity is behind the assumed level playing field that is central to the American dream. Our tax system’s ability-to-pay principle—which holds that the tax burden an individual carries should be proportionate to their wealth—is based on equity grounds. Pragmatically, that means researchers and government officials must continue to collect data that examines the distributive impacts of policy to make necessary adjustments. Researchers are often guilty of rolling their eyes at equity matters, opting for macro measures of performance and growth. This is partly why many economists downplay the role prices play in a country’s economic performance, as they often overlook how prices impact various groups differently.  

The branding of equity as divisive or even anti-democratic is clearly a political tactic to distract us from the policies the public wants and needs. Not addressing it is a form of neglect. 

Democrats and Republicans must learn how to use equity as a unifying force. This year’s presidential election is a referendum to ensure that white people in rural Pennsylvania as well as Black and Latino or Hispanic people in inner city Philadelphia have an economy that improves the quality of all their lives.   

The Republican Party may have swept the election, but if they fail to deliver on the referendum for economic security laid down by working-class voters of all stripes, they too will find themselves on the outs. Republicans will learn that avoiding the word “equity” won’t make the pain of not delivering it go away. Just ask the Democrats.

Musk, Ackman Endorse Trump for President After Incident

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and hedge-fund manager Bill Ackman formally threw their support behind Donald Trump in the wake of Saturday’s assassination attempt, endorsing him for president in the upcoming U.S. election.

"I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery," Musk said on X. In a subsequent post, he said, "Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt."

Musk also called on the head of the Secret Service to resign. The agency is expected to face several investigations in the aftermath of the assassination attempt.

A Secret Service spokesman said over the weekend that Trump had additional security and resources while traveling for the campaign, and there is an active investigation into the incident.

Ackman, the founder and CEO of hedge-fund Pershing Square Capital Management, also wrote on X Saturday night that he is going to formally endorse Trump. He said he had come to this decision some time ago but didn’t feel the urgency to write about it until now.

The need of more women in high earning workspaces

Female district magistrate- 19.8%

Above are few of the most respected and well earning professions in India. Yet women do not constitute more than thirty percent of their workforce. Although more and more girls are pursuing university degrees, the number of women in leadership roles in any field remains stagnant for the past few decades.

This disparity increases along with the age of the employee, for most women leave their careers at the age of 30-35 - the prime of their careers- owing to their commitment to childcare and homemaking. A stark reality for most women in south asian households is that they are pressured to leave work to take care of their ailing in-laws. Once the child is old enough, or after the death of the in-law, the long gap in resume does not allow women to earn as much as their male counterpart.

To advance women in a capitalistic society, the resource pool must be colonized by women --especially women in highly misogynistic societies. The capital earned by women will act as a partial sheild to protect them from the evil of men.

The most vulnerable woman in the present world is a woman without capital-without any money or property to their name. The feminist focus should be fighting for women's right to own property, for obtaining equal share in their father's property, and for the wife to have as much share in her spouse's property as her children.

Along with this, female reservation for high posts in BOTH public and private departments should be our goal. A greater percentage of women in the three bodies of law is crucial for female advancement. Solidarity between the female social class in terms of financial resource sharing must exist. Female entrepreneurs should source their raw material from female vendors and employ more women. Female separatism should be practiced at a financial level as well.

A lot of radical feminists support socialism and so do I. Inspite of this, we survive in a capitalist world. The poorest of women cannot advance through socialism because the current system is designed for men. Before the radical change is brought, we should strive for the betterment of lives of women living under this system which can only be brought by women hoarding capital amongst the female class.

This is totally my opinion on Harry, Invictus and the Commonwealth. I think Harry’s greatest loss was the loss of their roles of President and VP of the Commonwealth Trust. If they lose Invictus a great deal of their “Plans” i.e. the Plans others have for using them. All of this is connected as I think Harry’s handlers have their ultimate goal of getting Harry back into a role with the Commonwealth which would allow a great deal of movement and economic and military activities within those countries populations, by his handlers, as Harry would be the face to put out any complaints by those who are fighting the multi national corporations and Tech companies that are trying to make inroads into those countries,  to get access to their resources, like oil, their land for development.  They have to have a face that is innocuous and who appears to be aligned with the Commonwealth countries. That face, the face of Invictus, gives them Carte Blanche to get into the country, to sell it as a Goodwill operation for Veterans etc. Without Invictus they lose that free pass to go right to the top of the countries hierarchy of ministers, presidents, meet a former prince routine of his and then integrate his own “connections” to the country with the blessing of the leaders as they trust Harry.  You know the Harry that keeps talking about “Africa, my true home, the place I am most comfortable” blah, blah. The desire of Invictus to get rid of Harry has proven to be very difficult as there are powerful corporations who want him there and it has nothing to do with athletes. With Harry as the face, and the beard for what is going on, he distracts from the real activities and puts out that she is 43% Nigerian (I am your sister, your mother, your wife blah, blah!). Don’t be fooled. This is all a charade, a scam…not by Harry, he is too stupid. Follow the money…this is all a distraction from issues like all the violence over there, i.e., African Parks. However, there is no question in my mind that H&M would do anything for money…greed is the touchstone here…and we already know that Harry would sell out his family for money. Can you imagine what he would do to an entity like the Commonwealth, that he does not care about at all?  Keep your eyes on these two, they are more dangerous than they look, because stupid people are very dangerous, because they will do anything for money.

A few points that I want to comment on:

The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust is a local, UK based charity that is supposed to support young people aged 18-35 across the Commonwealth, focusing on social entrepreneurs who have founded organisations to address problems in their communities. So far it has funded projects in the following countries:

 3 in the UK, 5 in Uganda, 3 in Kenya, 3 in Cameroon, 2 in Malawi, 2 in South Africa, 2 in Rwanda, 2 in Tanzania, 2 in Nigeria, 1 in Ghana, 1 in Barbados, 1 in Guyana, 1 in St Lucia, 1 in Trinidad and Tobago, 1 in the Maldives, 1 in India, and 1 in Pakistan. 

That is 32 projects across 17 countries (out of 56 Commonwealth Nations). This is a small charity. It does not have an international reputation and I doubt that most people outside the UK would know about it.

Harry’s job as President was to be president of a UK based charity. It had nothing to do with the organisation of the Commonwealth if Nations.

With respect to the Commonwealth of Nations, any prominent position within the organisation is either filled by a Head of State or voted on by all Heads of State. If Harry wants one of those positions, for which he is woefully unqualified, he would have to do a deal with enough of the 56 Heads of State to be voted into the position. I can’t see that happening, myself, especially as many of them want the position to go to another country’s Head of State after King Charles. 

In addition, the Head of the Commonwealth has no power in any nation that makes up the Commonwealth. They can not be the face of anything except the Commonwealth as an organisation because they have no power in any of the individual countries (except for what is granted to them as Head of State of one or more of those countries).

Invictus is another matter, as Harry does have role as its patron that could include going to different countries to raise awareness/funds etc. Using that role for other motives makes sense.

For the next two decades, King Oswald poured all the resources and assets of the Empire that made New Kingspire the capital of the world, A status that is still maintained to this very day.

For bigger the settlement grew, the more the slaves were brough in. The natives of the country, The Irish, Polish, Indians ,Africans and almost every single inch of the known world.

As time went by King Oswald's madness crossed his own reputation. From Jus primae noctis to 'Gladiator' battles where young children would get teared to shreds by rabid dogs to painful death sentences to those who even dared to look him funny or utter his name in vain.

But like all oppressors, HIs life didn't have a happy ending. One of his bastard Son from one of the native slave He R*ped. Chenoa, The Brave rose to overthrow him.

At the age of 12, He started a secret rebellion that would subtly disrupt the day to day activities of the empire. As time went on, Chenoa amassed a great army comprising former/escaped slaves, common enemies and disillusioned Veterans of the Empire.

He laid a great seige on the city and alongside his most trusted allies, He stormed the palace butchering anyone in his path. After meeting face to face with his Father for the first time, The king already gone mad as he just killed all his Children, Wives and Concubines in mad paranoia.

The Mad King taunted Chenoa to end his life. He however proceeded to cut off all his limbs, ears and tongue. He barely kept him alive to further torture him by plucking out his eyes and teeth. He personally committed every survivable torture known to extended his agony. For years, Oswald begged him for the mercy of death that Chenoa never granted as The Mad King was thrown into isolation for the rest of his days.

Chenoa would go on to rule the empire through a figurehead with the same iron fist He inherited from his father minus the cruelty and unfairness.

For the next four centuries, New Kingspire would go on to become a symbol of hope and opportunity where immigrants from all over the world would join the melting pot with unbroken period of Industrial and Technological revolution.

The extremely wealthy businesses and entrepreneurs shaped up the city's economic landscape that evolved into Cloud soaring Skyscrapers, a booming movie industry, The World's biggest stock exchange, a big Music industry, Sports center and many more attractions.

The golden period also brought world's highest crime rates, racial tensions/riots and budget crisis often leading to massive economic downfall which opened paths for the smartest, strongest and cruelest of the criminals to form their own families that would eventually form 'The Council of the 9' who practically control and run the Underbelly of the world's largest city like clockwork with intricate rules and instituions.

With support and connections with the top 0.1%, the entertainment industry, politicians from both sides and even agencies like CIA & FBI on some strict uneasy terms.

The Council of the 9 is the modern day version of Hercules's Hydra without any shortages of heads to spare.

Those who walk into the shadows only escape by the gentle guiding hand of the grim reaper. You being a miracle, is thought to be dead. You hope that you won't get involved in the fold any shape or form ever again in the city of 50 million people.

Can the Bay Area be TV/film's next big creative incubator? Native Rafael Casal is betting on it.

Despite sharing a state with Hollywood, despite having been the source and setting for many incredible films, the Bay Area has never really been known as a center of movie and television production. A new initiative by writer, producer, actor, and poet Rafael Casal hopes to change that perception.

The Bay List, a collaboration between Casal and producer/entrepreneur Franklin Leonard, will identify and highlight exceptional screenplays and television pilots by writers from, or with close ties to, the Bay Area. Along with a cast of high-profile partners, The Bay List will select the 10 most promising projects submitted by writers between now and April 2025, then work with them to amplify their ideas and secure educational and production opportunities.

“I think because of the multiculturalism of the Bay, the often extreme economic inequality, the diversity in our public schools, the progressive imagination of the community members, the corruption in government and policing, the multi-hyphenate nature of our self-sustaining art scenes, and on and on and on, and up and down, that powder keg has created an environment that produces some of the world's most impressive thought leaders,” says Casal. ”I have a strong feeling that if making movies and TV felt more obtainable to artists in the Bay, we would see a true renaissance of film explode from here.”

Indeed, that “powder keg” has already resulted in some unforgettable pictures, including some that Casal is especially fond of, like the documentary The Force (2017) by Pete Nicks, which captures the depths of police violence and corruption in the Bay Area, and the 1979 classic Escape from Alcatraz starring Clint Eastwood. “La Mission (2009) by the Bratt brothers is a beautiful film [that] captures the Mission District pre-gentrification, a place that now feels like a fantasy,” says Casal. “The [Latine] community in the Bay is not often depicted on screen, and Northern California feels so different than L.A in that respect.”

Big and small, Casal tries to watch all of the productions connected to the Bay Area—and there are still infinite stories to be told. The idea to bring more equity and access to those telling them was inspired by Leonard’s pioneering project The Black List, which has a similar goal in helping overlooked scripts get noticed. Initially founded in 2005 to survey the most-liked screenplays that remained unproduced each year, the initiative has grown into a virtual marketplace democratizing access to the film industry for writers from more than 100 countries.

“The Black List has been a fantastic resource for screenwriters for quite some time now, but I have to admit that it wasn't until after I made my first film that I heard about it,” explains Casal, who wrote, produced, and starred in 2018’s Blindspotting and its 2021 Starz spinoff with childhood friend Daveed Diggs. “The Bay List is my attempt to partner with Franklin and his team to bring awareness about The Black List to the Bay, creating a specific list just for us. The hope is that collaborations are formed through this process, which can help bridge the gap between the Bay Area writing scene and the Hollywood machine of actually getting things made.”

Even in its inaugural year, The Bay List has already secured the participation of some of the region’s biggest names in entertainment: Lucasfilm (the San Rafael production company founded by George Lucas), Playtone (the production company founded by Alameda-native Tom Hanks), Unanimous Media (founded by Steph Curry and Erick Peyton), Who Knows Best Productions (founded by W. Kamau Bell and Melissa Hudson Bell), and almost a dozen others altogether. They’ll be involved in selecting the first cohort of finalists and in providing them with various forms of support such as pitching workshops, public table reads, and business development guidance.

“This project lives and dies by the generosity and time of some of the Bay Area’s most major players, and I am so grateful that they even entertained the idea,” says Casal. “The truth is, we need to make a big splash to get folks to pay attention, and so on the front end just lending their names is incredible—but even more valuable, are some of the resources each of them have pledged to the top 10 finalists.”

The only requirement to submit a film or television script is that the writer was born in, grew up in, or currently resides in one of the Bay Area’s nine counties full- or part-time. Those who lived here for a significant period as children or adults are also eligible, and screenplays and pilots don’t need to focus on the region to qualify. The Bay List will announce its shortlist in May 2025 and declare 10 finalists in July.

“The Bay is unique in the world. There is something in the water,” says Casal. “As someone who believes art pushes a society forward, I would hate to leave that stone unturned. I'm from under that stone.”
