I imagine that his friend from university, Quinn (they/them) takes charge of the costumes and that's why they're in so many of these. For context at band camp there's a really steep hill and when we march on the streets we go up and then down said hill, while playing etc

I'm not kidding it's probably a 70 degree angle and I know math stuff

I hate it so much because I have snare drum and I can't lift my knees very far without hitting the bottom of the drum so the entire percussion section is just struggling for like 30 feet

I cannot stop thinking about the fact that, ironically, in his college years Commander Ruju would've been voted 'most likely to wind up as an Inquest flunky' in every timeline EXCEPT the one where he does, in fact, wind up joining the Inquest. and that's only because in that version, they'd vote him most likely to wind up in Inquest management instead (and they are correct, unfortunately)

some of his early college-era antics under the cut:

setting off the smoke alarms in other college dorms, getting his 'rival' classes doused with flame-extinguishing foam

using his water magic to make the fountains spray people

mild air element static shocks JUST strong enough to make other students' hair frizz up right before class starts

raising bricks under people's feet with the earth element in order to very discreetly trip them right in plain sight

ATTEMPTING to pressure others into doing his projects (he only got away with this because it always backfired on him)

interfering with class demonstrations via heckling

freezing hallway floors into solid ice rinks after class

frequently cornering and intimidating anyone who was unpopular and/or meek enough that he could get away with it

all this to say, if my rat bullied your rat during college, they may be entitled to emotional compensation! feel free to proceed to WvW and beat his ass for fun and profit. don't worry, he's an elementalist. he's very used to performing his downstate rotation. 👍

(mysterious lotus casebook, di feisheng & fang duobing) He didn’t mean to keep it, but something about the helpless little bundle of cream-coloured fur had stirred his heart. 3. no takebacks (mysterious lotus casebook, fang duobing/li lianhua) Li Lianhua is teasing him about his supposed upcoming marriage to the princess again, in that way he does sometimes that’s more of a defensive mechanism than anything. 4. to gravity and the unknown (elder scrolls online, verandis ravenwatch/prince naemon) It’s cold. 5. you and me and a bottle of wine (baldur's gate 1, player character/xan) Beregost is a welcome sight after weeks of trudging up and down the Sword Coast at the mercy of the elements, the wildlife both mundane and monstrous, and the seemingly endless roving gangs of bandits. 6. hold me tight and fear me not (baldur's gate 2, player character/xan) The dark elves are not much for merrymaking, Ceru thinks as she sips at her second tankard of black mead; in all her travels, she’s never seen a tavern so quiet. 7. snow and repetitions of snow (elder scrolls online, mannimarco/vanus galerion) Vanus Galerion sank into his bathtub wearily, the troubles of the day weighing heavily upon him. 8. a light that does not flicker (elder scrolls iv: oblivion, hero of kvatch/martin septim)

Nevos could only watch, mute and uncomprehending, as Martin was enveloped in a blaze of light so bright it hurt his eyes to watch.

9. into the abyss (elder scrolls iv: oblivion, hero of kvatch/martin septim) Blue, all around him is blue, a placid calm sky that stretches on in all directions as far as he can see. taking "first line" as the first full sentence, which... lol. if there's any consistency in these it's that i am very inconsistent! past tense, present tense, rambling run-on sentences or just "it's cold"? no pattern no rhyme no reason baby!!!

Ouch. Ouch ouch ouch. Jun admitting he had a childhood devoid of friends. I HAD AN INKLING IT WAS TRUE. Just taken from what he's said prior about his childhood & how he's acted around others. But seeing it in front of my face now. He's always so awkward & sharp to begin with when meeting people but mellows out ( majority of the time -- except with a select few ) afterward. Take his first appearance in story/anime where he comes off as awkward & scary when all he wants to do is give Makoto the wallet he dropped. I mean... we all know Reimei's shitty system didn't exactly help his situation in the slightest bit. But it also explains why it's easy for him to form an impact too: Tatsumi, Kaname, & Hiyori. He grew up with it burned into his head as a LITTLE KID he had to surpass Jin Sagami, which of course he eventually did. But to put something so harsh into a child's mind who's easily influenced & fester on that, it's really no wonder.

It's a surprise that Jun's NOT WORSE. But... surprisingly Jun holds a steady head on his shoulders. Reimei may have helped to keep him on a steady path, rather than the system of Yumenosaki. Thrust into a harsher reality of what he has to strive toward. But it is clear that as he got older, he realized his father was rather shitty on him. He began to form his own thoughts & goals. But still.... for someone who grew up with no friends, strict schedules, rough lessons, and more than likely hardly any love in his life -- it's a surprise he's able to hold his head high. It's a surprise how capable he is of putting his foot down. How he's come to realize what he wants over what was pushed onto him. He could be so much worse from a traumatic upbringing.

Sure, he still has his moments that shine through, but... he has accepted the love around him and actually properly enjoys being up on stage. Sure, his need to prove himself & perfect himself are certainly remnants that'll stay with him forever, from both his father & Reimei too, but he proven himself so much. He has proper friends now too!! && he's able to enjoy stuff he's found he likes, such as manga & playing games!! Stuff he never had growing up & had to sneak to enjoy out of his father's gaze.
