hello gamers is slay the princess good/playable if you're horrifically bad at most video games/will it require me to download any programs that will fry my computer. It looks like the type of thing I'd enjoy but I'm allergic to games with the exception of choose your own adventure stuff that doesn't require too much walking around aimlessly

#i played like an hour of disco elysium at a friend's place and enjoyed that #although i don't think i quite got the hang of the quest aspect or how to move through the space to uncover the story #i just clicked on everything i saw methodically #also allergic to twitch style walkthroughs because i'm always like. this should just be a show get rid of the guy telling me what he's doing #i want to choose #gaming is just something i never picked up as a kid and i buy laptops with the purposes of using the word processor and firefox.#i feel 90 whenever i explain this but anyways

I feel like at some point in the Familiar AU, someone (Ford? Secret Flirtagent who's made it his personal mission to ""rescue"" Dipper from Bill after nearly getting murdered?) snoops through Dipper's magic cellohone for clues on how to destroy Cipher. And this really is 70% of their texts.

Obviously Bill would have made it so if anyone besides he or Dipper tries to use the phone, they get a nasty surprise, but still.

That's a russian to burmese textbook, I've been searching for something like that for MONTHS(I've even found a scan of the first few pages of that exact book online tho), but then I found out that the site of the biggest bookstore in Moscow (and probably the whole of Russia by extension) had LITERALLY ONLY 1 COPY so I went there and bought it!! It was pretty cheap too (like 15$)!!!

The wildest part is that it's from 1971 and was published by the ministry of foreign affairs of the Soviet Union!! There are people out who think their textbooks are too old because they're from early 2000s and I got this relic.

#the first few pages mention the politics of Burma of that time which is a wild read in hindsight #Quote “other ethnic groups of burma include the Kachin; the Karen; and the Shan peoples *who all enjoy autonomous rights*”#No they absolutely did not under Ne Win lol don't lie to me silly book #Also they mention the burmese way to socialism and the burma socialist program party lol #btw hi to Helen specifically; i remember you from my old blog and im like 90% sure you're reading this post right now #language learning #burmese language #myanmar #burmese #burma #sino-tibetan #vintage textbooks #langblr #i originally posted this a long time ago but it didn't show up in tags before so im reposting this

i offhandedly mentioned having seen a movie from the 2000s to my friend and she was genuinely flabbergasted because she thought i “only watched old movies”

#i was like GIRL THE SECOND TO LAST FILM I WATCHED WAS FROM *THIS YEAR*!!!!!!!!#she was SHOCKED #just for that i watched ANOTHER film from this year bc i MUST beat the allegations #i tried to explain The List to her and how i break it up by decade and have intentionally tried to diversity what i watch #and TO BE FAIR to me #the films i have shown her so far have been from the 90s 60s and 40s #which is a BIG range if i do say so myself #like. sorry we haven’t watched any current films together…#you literally LIVE in a building with a theater in it #FIGURE IT OUT #seriously tho i am so grateful to have someone who will watch films with me #i ordered Citizen Kane on Blu-ray so we can watch it together #bc she told this CRAZY story about her shitty ex #and in the back of my head i was like ‘you KNOW what this reminds me of…’#so i intentionally waited to offer to show it to her until we were past the breakup situation #but NOW i am hype #and she is hype #and to be fair that’s probably why she thinks i only watch old movies #but it’s not even old to me #like. if it has sound it’s not old…#i’m gonna have SO much fun in my intro to film history class if i get to take it #my goal is to have already seen every film they discuss in the class so that i can just chill out and enjoy it #the final project is comparing and contrasting two films of your choice and i’m still figuring out what i want to do #excited regardless tho #i’m taking it my last semester as a treat for finishing my degree <33

And this guy (bald face looking ass… his regular skin doesn’t even have a beard but this is so uncanny to me… maybe it’s the lack of green in his skin tone paired with the lack of facial hair that scares me. Either he get to be pink or he gets to have a shaved face. Not both. (It is pretty though. I should go look for a link to who make the skin))

I know it's on me for looking too many comments and reviews about my favorite shows but do you guys ever feel like people just don't know how to like something anymore? Especially when it comes to tv-shows. It's like everyone's so ready to tear something apart, to be disappointed, to be proven right that a show is terrible like they thought it would be. I'm not talking about constructive criticism nor am I talking about being fairly disappointed over something but not only people love being negative but if you dare say that you love a show they all dislike you have to apologize because how dare you? And if you tell them to stop with the negativity because you just WANT TO ENJOY A MFUCKING TV SHOW when everything in this world is shit, they'll tell you you're censoring their opinions. Like it's not that deep please for the love of god, just let people enjoy things, if you don't like something THAT'S FINE but you don't have to make long essays explaining why and not let other people who do like it, enjoy it.

I think that part of what like. kills me about the whole media literacy and critical thinking aspect of enjoying media these days is that people refuse to like. contextualize that

A. Bad media can still hold significant meaning to people

B. Media made for a demographic you aren’t apart of is not inherently bad media

C. Media made for and consumed by the opposite demographic is not inherently shallow or flawed nor is it above criticism for its media tropes either.

#unimportant thoughts #i dont feel like dropping specifics in post but like. people online drive me legitimately insane #good example is Ready Player One. its an okay book but people LOVE to hate on it for being a shallow nostalgia grab for old male demographic #and like. yeah. but also comsider that it Was written earnestly by a man in that demographic? and that people enjoyed it???#and maybe im soft hearted but my Dad was a nerd in the 80’s so both of us reading that book and comparing our experiences with it and #learning about his childhood from him. it was awesome yk??? was the book groudbreaking or particularly moving? no #are there a lot of fair criticisms you can make about the book regarding its poorly written female characters and painfully male tone #throughout? absolutely. its not the most vile piece of media its barely mediocre and its not the best thing since sliced bread either #and it kills me because instead of being able to have conversations like thay #people just attack and attack and attack and ATTACK #I don’t know i think the rise of this booktook wattpad level romance smut is another big part of this #are those books incredible? no. definitely not. are they decent? yeah theyre fine enough #are their characters shallow; do they follow tropes; are the characters clearly romanticized objects for us to googoo eye over? yeah #so fucking what??? they arent winning pulitzer prizes theyre just popular online and easily accesible #people love consumbable media thats not an inherently bad thing #and i think its hypocritical for people to defend one and attack the other or even to attack both #media doesnt exist to be appropriately Deep and Meaningful before people are allowed to consume and enjoy it #like. i think theres a LOT of levels of undestanding compassion and respect that people need to reach before these conversations are worth #anything. because right now it really feels like girls and boys arguing back and forth on the playground over whos show is better #anyways. i could go on but i wont.#bottom line i suggest you take a deep look at how ‘realistic’ and ‘meaningful’ the media you enjoy actually fucking is before you start #critizing other media for being too shallow or unrealistic depictions of something #hate to break it to you guys but 90% of fictional characters are fictional and dont act like people irl ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Found the first writing decision in Farscape that I'm not fond of that can't be handwaved with "Oh, it's because it's the late 90s". D'argo and Chiana romance, huh? 🤔 Not sure I buy in to it

#I think the biggest thing is that it took me entirely by surprise. Guys WHERE did this come from???? What did I miss????#I'm not super against it I just don't think they have romantic chemistry.#I'm also willing to be convinced this isn't just a ''we're both incredibly lonely and a little broken inside'' thing and is genuine #of course it's a romance plot that is the first thing I don't like as much as everything else too because I'm me lmfao #actually now that I think about it some of it CAN be explained by being made in the late 90s #Chiana is hot therefore she MUST have a romance subplot at SOME point.#Honestly I'm genuinely delighted it took until season 2 for something to hit so wrong like this for me and that it doesn't #diminish my enjoyment for the show or even the characters. it just baffles me a little lol #I've even enjoyed ''less good'' episodes for the most part because I love whimsy and fun #farscape #had a brief divestment with a kdrama my sister in law NEEDED me to see but I'm back to watching farscape again
