I feel like I'm on r/OffMyChest, but there's something I've been meaning to say for some time

I dislike the Zonai

Their execution was lackluster (there's some interesting stuff, but the environmental storytelling is too sparse and inconsistent for any sort of coherent theory-crafting), but what I despise the most is how they're retroactively shoehorned into botw's worldbuilding

The Sheikah tech ? Heavily implied to be a derivative of the Much Superior Zonai tech

Hyrule Castle? Was built to honour Rauru's sacrifice

Calamity Ganon? Leaked gloom-turned-malice from dehydrated Ganondorf's seal

Temple of Time? The ~original~ was Zonai-made

Typhlo Ruins? Actually Hylian made, but to honour the great King Rauru (again)

Rauru himself is Zelda's ancestor (and implied source of her sealing powers, retconning the Triforce)

The Forgotten Temple? Also Zonai and used by King Rauru to hide the Secret Stones

Ancient Hero? Some kinda Zonai hybrid creature

This narrative of "everything was the Zonai/Rauru all along" is one I don't vibe with, because not only does it give inconsistent backstory to things that didn't need it, but they then left us with more questions than answers due to just how little we actually know about the Zonai.

I also wanna mention how much I dislike the Gacha machines that dispense the complete eyesore that are the Zonai devices. They're a fun enough gameplay concept (tho I don't personally like it), but it makes no sense how you get functioning hydrants or rockets out of gachapons. The Sheikah tech was given ample backstory, and clashed with Hyrule's otherwise rugged wilderness for thematic reasons. The Zonai tech is just kind of an ugly reminder that this is a videogame, and that you get these pre-made devices because the devs wanted to make a sandbox, regardless of whether it fits in this medieval high fantasy setting with serious undertones and environmental storytelling. And since they're branded as Zonai-made, they add to my discontent with the Zonai

I love this game, and it's done so much right (even tho some people might say otherwise), but I cannot bring myself to enjoy much of anything related to the Zonai, which, despite being barely in the game, play a huge role in the story, environment and worldbuilding

Sun conjunct Venus is generally considered bad for marriages - however this is not always the case and only one indicator. imo this works best when woman is Sun and man is Venus.

Ex: Cap Venus in a man’s chart shows his wife will have Cap traits - she can be career or family orientated, traditional, hardworking, humble, etc. When a woman’s Cap Sun conjuncts his Venus, he can feel she is “wife material”. She naturally has the traits he desires / is destined to have in a wife.

However, entire synastry would need to be analyzed. Ofc a man isn’t going to feel this way about every woman who matches his venus sign.

The reason I say this works better with man as Venus is because when man is Sun this can manifest as an arrogant energy. He may enjoy the attention but lack emotional connection - especially if she makes no strong positive aspects to his venus or moon. It’s not always bad tho. How would Enhypen's Jay be like in a relationship?

With him I'm getting very mixed energies. On one hand he seem like abandoning his partner a lot. On the other hand he seems like abandoning everything else foe his partner. I believe in a relationship he would be very torn between who to give his devotion to. I shuffled the Cards quite a lot but everything that kept comming out was just adding more to the same energy.

He wants to do well by his partner and be a great husband and father (despite his young age i see him being pretty focused on the long term results of a relationship - he seems pretty marriage and family oriented and i believe he dates to marry), but he also doesn't want to disappoint his coworkers and the responsibilities he has already committed to.

i think fae have around 3 “sexes”. i say “around 3” “sexes” bc science has proven repeatedly that sex is way more complicated than it seems lol. anyway i think fae have majority intersexed individuals with some female and some male. this definitely means that there’s not really a gender binary to trans around in, and fae don’t have the same concepts of trans and cisgender that we do. plus the fact that most fae, including both male and female (which here i’m referring purely to whether they produce egg or sperm) have a range of traits that are traditionally viewed by humans as gendered aka breasts, external/internal genitalia, etc. i would say body hair also but tbh i don’t think they have any, baul’s beard looks more like scales or horns to me and unless i’m wrong i don’t think we’ve ever seen a fae with body hair.

i would almost hesitate to say that fae are mammalian but they do have some hair as well as boobs (thank u meleanor for screwing w my fae biology headcanon /j) and it’s also known that they r capable of creating hybrid offspring w humans so they have to be closely related enough to humans to do that so they are mammals, my thought is just that they have adapted to live in environments with higher magic. that’s why they’re typically more magically gifted yet it’s more dangerous for them to be without it (cough cough glomas cough cough) ALSO. BECAUSE THEY LAY EGGS, FAE ARE BASICALLY MONOTREMES. HAVE FUN WITH THAT.

I'm tired of the "this series is awful" aftg readers feel the need to preface with before they admit they love it. I admit I used to do this, mostly because I felt i would be deemed cringe for very sincerely enjoying the more "out there" aspects of the series (fake sport, japanese mafia, andrew's meds).

I think the series, by virtue of being self published, is naturally going to be very unconventional. I've seen people complain that there isn't really a beginning, middle & end and that is true. the structure is odd and for three-act-structure enjoyers it might actually even be unsettling. but I think it's disingenuous to say there isn't a story because the story is the emotional journey of it's characters. the author pays little regard to respecting conventional story structure because the plot is just a vehicle through which the characters self-actualize. like, yeah, in most books, the climax would be in the last third of the book. yeah, in the king's men it's at the midpoint. yeah, some readers are going to call this "bad writing".

but I don't think that just because some people are going to think it's bad (particularly bad faith readers) it's enough for you to preface your love of the series with "I know it's bad! I'm obsessed with it tho." it isn't! I genuinely don't think these books are bad. I think there are fair criticisms to be made, but why is the line in regards to what a reader should be willing to accept drawn at a fictional sport? I think if you approach aftg the way you would approach a fantasy novel (i.e. willing to move past crazy concepts because that's the structure of this world and this world isn't our world) rather than nitpicking things that are functionality fantastical, you'll be able to look past all the unorthodox storytelling to realize that you like these books for a reason. and the reason is that they're good.

the writing is polished (not just for a self published novel imo), the characters are otherworldly yet have complex emotional arcs that are consistent with their characterization, the plot is absolutely fucking bonkers but within the framework of the world it functions as a driving force for the characters to make choices and grow. that's a good book from where I'm standing. aftg asks a lot of the reader but I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing.

I think people need to learn to stand for their opinions regardless of what "critics" will say. maybe this preemptive need to assert that you know aftg is bad but you love it anyways is a result of not wanting to seem cringe, wanting to seem in on the joke, idk? but really, I think it does more harm to constantly deride something you love, just because you want to make sure people know you know it's bad before they get the chance to tell you it's bad. you should respect yourself as a reader. anyways I love aftg and genuinely think they're good books!

She wasn’t necessarily the best at making friends when it came to school but that didn’t matter when she knew the type of life she’d be fully immersing herself into once she was 18.

Naturally, she’d continue the path of the crimson life. She started off in the low ranks despite how good they knew she’d be getting her hands dirty. Blayze was eager to become a hit woman but her parents knew she’d need to earn it, too much eagerness could make you reckless and recklessness would get you killed.

But she did earn it, because of course she did. And she continues to enjoy being sent off on a job, it’s like a little game to her and she enjoys the thrill of the hunt.

Her parents would’ve wanted her to strive for more but Blayze wasn't interested in never interested in taking on more and being a leader, she doesn’t have the patience or needed charisma for dealing with all the members. Although most of the crimsons are considered family, Blayze still keeps a guard up and doesn't just trust them all blindly, her parents taught her that. Anyone could betray her or the gang at any given moment.

With her line of work, making friends and getting close to people outside of the crimsons isn’t easy. Not that she exactly tries either but there have been times where that hard shell was cracked.

Somewhere along the her late twenties she’d fallen for a woman— a single mom who works two jobs (literally) and a kid that wasn’t too bad. It was a surprise even to herself and although she’d done her best to keep them private and hidden from the life she led, they were killed in retaliation to something she’d done. Blayze has never forgiven herself for that.

The second time she’d let someone in was fairly recent. Around a year or so ago. It was hot and fun, someone she would’ve liked to keep around for the good sex and maybe more and good company, they matched each others freak well but that very much backfired on her when she found out he was on an entirely different side to hers. Additionally, he’d interfered with one of her jobs. Blayze rarely ever misses or fails, so when she does, it’s a huge fucking deal to her. It’s fine though, she’d taken her frustrations out on him and left him to die… or did she? She loves a good game.

There hasn't been much news about him [LMM] lately for a while now until this month, so it's understandable to lose interest (I guess is the right term) in him and his projects. Warriors is definitely a huge step back for him! If he really is collaborating with Taylor Swift on this like we all began to speculate in April, then I would have rather it been some extended version of her song from TTPD featuring him. He is extremely capable of writing songs and creating characters for original musicals (even if they are based on a film or novel), and it just disappoints me that he went this route instead of spend his time and energy on a new original musical. Give me a reason to go to New York! I'm still going to to try and go next year anyway because there's a musical I really want to see (and because I am in dire need of going back), but I'm trying to get into musicals more and Lin just kinda ✨ threw away his shot ✨ with this one. As for Disney, yeah, I'm not entirely excited about that too, especially seeing that he probably chose Mufasa: The Lion King over Moana 2. I love "We Know the Way" and "An Innocent Warrior" the most! And "You're Welcome" and "How Far I'll Go". Bro really could've given us more songs like those in Moana 2... I'm sure the music will be good regardless, but it just lowkey sucks that he didn't write any of them.

June Monthly Music: Half Way Through Edition

Music released before June 13th because WOW this month is stacked and this post is already this big this early!

Kaytranada came out with a new album--"Wasted Words (ft Thundercat)" has hilarious lyrics, "Weird (ft Durand Bernarr)" scratches an itch if you miss Azealia's vocalizations but can't listen to her for obv reasons, "Snap My Fingers (ft Pinkpantheress)" is bouncy and sweet, and "Still (ft Charlotte Day Wilson)" is a pleasant ache of a song. Not a groundbreaking album but reliable and solid.

"Drip Sweat" is my fave off that album, which is why it gets its own line. Very hypnotic, like being tugged into a dark corner at the club for some privacy.

After years away, Foster the People are back with a whole entire new sound. "Lost in Space" is... confusing at first but it kinda makes me think of Katamari Damacy... so I like it. I do not know if it's good, I am prejudiced. (Supermodel was one of my fave albums of all time.)

If you enjoy music from The Sims, yes, the game, give "Open World" by Toconoma a shot. A bit funkier, less perfect for constant looping but it's a purely instrumental song capable of invoking the same joy as booting up the game and hearing creation mode.

NGL, the singles were bangers, but I kinda feel... underwhelmed by the Charli XCX album (didn't think it was bad, just overhyped) but of the new tracks I really dug "Sympathy is a Knife," "Talk Talk," and "365." Bonus tracks are fun tho, "Springbreakers" is my fave.

Raveena's collab wiith JPEGMAFIA, "Junebug," is a sprawling river of champagne through a land of glistening sands and bubbling clouds.

"New Way Out" by Poppy is for those of you who want a song that feels like a re-imagining of Evanescence's "Going Under" by BMTH.

"Balloon in Love" by Sunmi is... cute. I love Sunmi but it's just fine. Worth a try.

"I Am the King" Fat Dog. This track FEELS like an interlude but in a way that makes you feel transient as well. Time is escaping, this song is escaping, you are escaping.

Peggy Gou released her first album and while none of it is as classic as her earlier track, "Starry Night," I do think if you like groovy dance music, "1+1=1," "All that (ft Villano Antillano), and "I Believe in Love Again" are worth checking out!

tess is just hands-down the best person on this show. as soon as they revealed the joint elimination i was pretty sure she was going home bc it made sense for gabby to join the villains and tess was the most likely candidate

that said she was so mature and genuine throughout this episode and is maybe the only person who just refuses to get caught up in the drama. i'm so curious to see ally's reaction and how it compares to hunter's elimination.

i do think this guarantee's cyan team can't lose again before the merge, although merge is probably soon so that doesn't necessarily matter. tom and aiden is an interesting alliance in this game bc they're so close but really only with each other, and i think might have a hard time building bridges post merge as well.

also i get why gabby is the way she is but she is very much a type of person i find very frustrating irl (specifically the "how can you expect me to not take ellie's elimination as a personal attack?" stuff) which i think is why i'm not enjoying her character as much as i'd like

predictions

i'm thinking maybe one more challenge before the merge, that i'd expect yellow team to lose. i don't think cyan or magenta can lose again now, cyan bc they'd boot gabby which kills her narrative too early, and magenta bc jake and ally both have Stuff going on (love triangle and tess leaving) that feel like they need to play out more (and ashley wouldn't go home).

(i guess cyan could lose if gabby had immunity, but i doubt that)

reason i'm not expecting the merge next episode: with gabby joining the villains it'd be a 5v5 split of villains/non-villains, and i just don't see tom/jake/aiden working together this soon, especially if the best they can do is tie. it makes more sense to me that they'd cut out one of yellow team (probably yul, if grett can finally stand up to him) so that post-merge it's 4v5 and they have the drama of "non-villains have to ALL work together to win"

i think villain drama will blow up completely next episode regardless, and most likely yul goes home. there may also be something with the bit at the end about rule breaking, which i'm guessing was emily helping yul? but idk how that'll play into it.

i think ally will be way more torn up about tess leaving than she was about hunter (that's been my prediction since hunter got out). they could do something interesting with her and jake's respective relationship drama.

Will's day began shitty, like always. His head throbbed and, distantly, he could hear his father, Lonnie Byers, scream about whatever it was that had angered him today. Will groaned, another day in The Isle of the Lost aka where every villain and their children - the Villain Kids or VKs for short - lived. The Isle of the Lost was an island (if it could even be called such) in the middle of the fucking ocean with no WIFI, no electricity and no way out. It also had an extremely clear view of Auradon, the place where all the perfect little princes and princesses lived their happily ever after; while all the VKs where left to rot in the lame ass excuse of a home.

Will's head felt like it was about to explode, he definitely drank too much last night. He considered going back to sleep but he knew that if he woke up now, his father would most likely scream at Will to make himself useful but he also knew that if he didn't wake up the his father would scream at him for being a lazy ass. So if his father was good to scream at him regardless of what he did, he'd rather wake up now and annoy his friends sleeping next to him. He kicked the sleeping person next to him, his best friend Max Mayfield. She gasped and her eyes flew open. Will cackled maliciously and received a playful punch to the arm.

"You asshole!" she shrieked "Your feet are so fucking cold!"

The person next to Will stirred and cursed.

"Can both of you just shit the fuck up? Some of us are trying to sleep, right El?" the person, Lucas Sinclair, cursed.

"Yeah! Don't you think it's a bit early to be screaming?" El Hopper chided, rubbing her bleary eyes.

"Tell my Dad that. He was the one who woke me up." quipped Will.

As if on queue, Lonnie began to call their names with fury.

"What did we do now?" moaned El.

"Well, we stole Argyle's stash, we wrecked Robin's restaurant, we also stole a bunch of shit from a bunch of places, we also-" listed Lucas off with irony.

"Yeah, ok, fine, we get it Lucas. Thank you." snapped Max.

"Wow, someone is in a mood today." laughed El pressing a kiss to Max's cheek.

"Ugh, get off me." Max grumbled just for Lucas to grab her hand.

Will looked away, they were a group of 4 and 3 of them were dating each other. So Will, as the poor single schmuck that he was, was stuck having to bare their terribly sappy flirting. Deep down, he was happy for them but he'd rather kiss Ursula's tentacle than admit it. Will cleared his throat and signaled for them to follow him to the living room/kitchen/second bedroom/bathroom.

Lonnie was a thin man, with a stubble and salt-and-pepper hair. The man was grinning like a madman next to Jonathan, Will's older brother, who was shaking his head, amused.

"Hey, Dad." said Will, strutting through the long singular table occupying most of the space. His black boots breaking several stolen trinkets under his weight.

His dad didn't even bother to even wave at him. Will kept a neutral expression, but it stung a little, being ignored by even his own father. Weren't parents supposed to love their kids unconditionally? This rule, apparently did not apply to his father.

"Everyone, SHUT THE FUCK UP!" yelled Lonnie and everyone turned to look at him "I have news. As everyone already knows, the crown prince of Auradon Michael Wheeler will be crowned king in 1 month."

Will grit his teeth, he detested that prince. He had detested him ever since their first and only meeting.

It all began when a group of VKs tried to break the barrier surrounding the Isle, unsuccessfully. This event ended in thousands of innocent VKs and villains being slaughtered by King Theodore's knights. One of these villains had been Will's own mother.

"Oohhhh, how delightful, truly." Cooed Max with mockery. Lucas snorted and Will snickered. Why should they care? As if that affected them in anyway.

"And so, he has done his first proclamation: to allow 4 villain kids to go to Auradon. These 4 villain kids are the son of Charles Sinclair, the daughter of Susan Mayfield, the daughter of Captain Jim Hopper and finally, my youngest son."

The following silence was deafening. Nobody dared to say anything. Finally Will spoke up.

"They want us to go to Auradon?" he asked.

"Son, listen to me, this my- our chance to fight back against our oppressors and the people who killed your mother. You and Jonathan can have your revenge, and show the world you are your father's sons. All you guys need to do is steal Fairy Godmother's wand and with it, break the barrier." Lonnie told Will.

Max and El were having a silent conversation while Lucas was having his card reads by his younger sister, Erica.

"But Dad-" Will tried to say.

"No buts, William. Show me you truly deserve the title of being the son of the cruelest villain in the whole Isle."

Will sighed "Fine, we'll go. We'll do it. Whatever."

"When the fuck are we leaving, anyways?" scoffed Max.

"Maxine, language!" chided Susan, while doing her nails.

"Mom, I told you to call me Max!" Snapped her daughter

Lonnie ignored their bickering.

"Well, Maxine" - Max huffed, annoyed - "to answer your question, you are leaving today. Now, even." Stated Lonnie with a grin.

Everyone gaped at the man.

"Now, regarding your bags. I've already taken care of that and the limo is already waiting for you outside." Lonnie stayed as he ushered Max and Lucas outside

Will seemed to snap out of his daze.

Limo? Now? Did his dad really pack their bags? Why the fuck would the damn prince choose them?

Will vaguely registered El giving her dad a hug and following Max out of the door..

Lonnie grabbed him by his leather jacket.

"What are you waiting for, son?" demanded his father. "This is our chance, don't you see? We could have the world at our very feet. I'd you don't blow it, of course."

"I won't, I swear." Will reassured him.

His father grunted and shoved him out the door.

Will was faced with absolute chaos.

Jonathan was in a heated discussion with a smartly dressed man, who Will guessed was the driver.

"I don't care if your Dad is a fucking king! In the Isle you have no domains or right to tell me to fuck off! This is my damn home!" screamed Jonathan, jabbing a finger in the man's torso.

The man growled at Jonathan and huffed indignantly.

"Fucking villain kids." He scoffed.

Will entered the limousine where Max boasted of how he stole the driver's wallet.

"It's says here, that this is Prince Steve Harrington! Son of, ooooohhhh, the Beast!" Max quirked an eyebrow "That's why he is so hairy!"

"Punch him in the face! Come on, Jonathan, I'm rooting for you!'' yelled El

Apparently, Jonathan had gotten into a fist-fight with Steve.

Half an hour later, Steve entered the limo looking pissed.

"Give me that!" Harrington said as he snatched his wallet from Lucas' hand. Sadly, his money was long gone.

The moment they stepped out of the limo, several things happened:

1. Max puked on the floor.

2. Will trying not to step on the vomit, tried to jump over the disgusting puddle but tripped over and fell on top of someone

3. That someone turned out to be the Michael Wheeler.

Will blushed, he literally had the man pinned on the ground. Now that Will had the chance to stare without being weird or creepy, he noticed the man's attractiveness. Michael had a splatter of freckles across the bridge of his strong nose and high cheeks. His face was framed by elegantly styled, black curls. Michael's face was surprisingly red, was his face always that red?

Will decided to get up and got to stand next to his friends. Max was already standing up looking defensive.

"Wow, your friend sure gets carsick easily, huh? I take it you don't ride car ride very often" chuckled Michael

Lucas snorted and El fell into a fit of laughter.

"You hear that Max? We mustn't rides cars that often?" laughed El, wiping the tears of her eyes.

Will couldn't tell if Michael was joking or not.

"What did I say?'' Mike asked to the guy next to him.

"I dunno." shrugged the other.

"Well, you said that we don't ride cars often. Of course we don't. In fact we've never done that, before. It's a small Isle, in which we don't even have electricity. You think we'd have cars?" sneered Will.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I-". Mike tried to apologize. Will felt that the man was genuinely sorry about that. But in the Isle, you don't trust anybody, even if at first glance they look harmless.

Will sighed, it was going to be a long month.
