                                                                                       So already I am swiftly moving towards the  close of week 3 and will be rewarded with a long three day weekend as its a national holiday here in Italy to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception...when Mary was...hmm...blessed with a gift from God! Friday 8th  is for church goers to honour Mary and traditionally folk deck the halls with boughs of holly, whilst sipping, I presume, Italy's version of mulled wine and playing Wizzards hit tune ‘I Wished It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ on a loop....possibly.

The grand square of Carpi played host to a festive light show with enough gusto and cheer from the crowd to warm even my frozen feet and hands. ( I am still sporting the thinnest of summer jackets...thinking...idiotically...Italy will be non stop sunshine and warmth and leaving my Scottish coats tucked away in an attic room in Inverness?!). Projections were thrown up on Cathedral visage and an array of captivating performers wandered across the cobbles, glowing in their beast and birds form . Also the towns decorations  were ceremoniously switched on throughout the square, which will light the arches and streets encouraging late night shopping throughout this season.

Prompted by the Christmas spirit  of the previous weekend, today, the balcony doors were thrown open at Casa McFranLea, (for that is where we stay in Carpi). Bright sun poured through into the flat, Xmas hats were donned, music blared away and our very own seasonal decorations were hung up! Full of cheer and a couple of glasses vino...I have to agree with Wizzards Roy Wood...I wished it could be Christmas everyday!!!

This weekend.....I will be travelling from Bologna to VENICE!!!!!! guided through the still alleys and secret streets away from tourists by my good friend and local resident Martina!
