The entire Uncle Fester episode. I was living.

The murder mystery plot part was pretty good imo.

They had me suspecting multiple people.

But of course, Wednesday said it best. Of course the first guy she kissed was sus/the imposter.

They really said the scariest thing in this show was a white guy turning into a monster and resurrecting an old white man pilgrim.

And I was actually kinda enjoying Tyler and Wednesday, even as a lesbian.

However, also as a lesbian, it's WENCLAIR FTW.

BONUS: When Enid finally transformed and fought Tyler and Wednesday saw Enid as a werewolf and they had a MOMENT. Enid protecting Wednesday- SHE DID IT FOR HER. And then when Enid comes back and she asks the other students about Wednesday and they all think Wednesday died but then Wednesday shows up and Enid RUNS to her and WEDNESDAY DOESN'T STOP ENID FROM HUGGING HER AND WEDNESDAY HUGS ENID BACK-

And yes, I KNOW they both kissed a guy.

Is that going to stop me from shipping who I want? Nope.

But yeah, overall I really liked this show and I hope that there's a season 2! Now we pray that Netflix doesn't do the thing and cancel it after only 1 season!

The aim of this tag game was to take your favorite movie, character, animal, drink, song, season, book, color and hobby and create a mood board.

I apologize for the super long delay. Was there a common tag everyone used? I was on a grief retreat mountain wondering about the meaning of life and so missed everyone's entries and I'd love to catch up.

Movie: Enter the Phoenix (2004) this movie is full of my favorite tropes. Secret & mistaken identity, power dynamics, competence kink, enemies to lovers friends, swords, loyalty. It also has a well written and portrayed out and proud queer lead. It didn't age super well, but it makes me nostalgic of the Hong Kong that once was, especially from a queer perspective, and remains my favorite comfort comedy.

Character: Methos from Highlander the Series. Wilhelm is my precious and my baby and I love him, but Methos has had an almost thirty year head start, okay? Maybe after season 3 and with some time to digest things will change, but for now it's still Methos all the way.

Animal: Elephant. I also like cats and guinea pigs but elephants always made me feel safe (as a kid elephants where about as real to me as dinosaurs)

Drink: Assam tea. Never come near me with Darjeeling. In a pinch a strong espresso macchiato will do. Bonus points if there's some vanilla in there as well. (Ostfriesen Sonntagstee ftw, even if it's kinda tricky to get here)

Song: Sogno di Volare by Christopher Tin. I've had musical anhedonia since I was eleven so I don't really listen to music, but hearing this always brings be joy because it means I have hours of playing Civ ahead of me. Also the lyrics are cool.

Season: Summer all the way. You can be outside, the days are long and I've always associated that time with freedom and carefreeness.

Book: 琅琊榜 by 海晏. I adore this book. All the tropes from above (except not explicitly queer) and with bonus historical low fantasy elements and lots of elaborate politics. Also all the idioms and very well written. Better known by the title of the excellent tv series it inspired and which I never have the time to rewatch called Nirvana in Fire. (won because it's great and because the three defining book (series) of my youth turned out to be written by authors of varying degrees of horridness)

Color: light turquoise green. Is that what it's called? Anyway that color.

Well, I kind of needed this one because I've had a few shitty weeks recently, so thank you!!

Here we go (in no particular order btw)!

My cat! He can be so obnoxious sometimes when he doesn't know he if he wants to be in or out, but he's so cute and fluffy and adorable (also he snores really loudly).

My mum! We don't always get along, which is normal I guess, but we have a lot of fun doing excursions and just chilling at home just watching tv. Also, my brother to an extension but we're... y'know, siblings so I either like him or hate him.

Reading! I love to just get absorbed by the stories and lives of fictional characters! Is it a form of escapeism? Absolutely, but who cares when I can read the same tropes over and over again! (Enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine, found family ftw!)

Writing! It's not like I actually write, but the intention and ideas are there! I just make up a bunch of stories in my head that could be so amazing if I actually were to put them on paper. Maybe one day?

Just being at home! I love just chilling at home on my own. No one asking me to go out and do stuff, no one messaging me. Just let me be alone in my room to rot away doing the things I enjoy!

First Kiss - MC x Colt

Author’s note: Wrote it as a one shot and praying it’s coherent 😂 Also my muse is a cruel soul, I expected to write about my Monday kids.... shout out to my girls @shreyamistry and @scgdoeswhat for laughing at and loving my hypocritical ass!!!!

Summary: My version of events of what went down before the driving test (Chapter 6).

Riya would have told her not to let it get under her skin, but Izzy Parker was the stubborn sort of girl. It was how she’d managed to stay top of her class throughout high school, how she’d managed not to cry herself to sleep when she was lonely and missed her mother, and now? That same stubbornness was going to wipe that smug grin right off of Colt’s face.

“You’re just going to embarrass yourself,” he’d told her just a few moments prior. Izzy hyper-focused on the steering wheel gripped in her hands and the empty DMV parking lot. She was going to drift and she was going to prove Colt wrong. Izzy punched the gas, her sights set on the parking cone target. Just as she approached, she turned the steering wheel left, heart thudding heavily in her chest. Hitting the clutch pedal, then the accelerator, the rest of the world fell away, like someone had reached out and flicked the sound off. She didn’t register the noisy skidding of the cars tires as she hard turned the wheel to the right, nor the knowing look Colt passed to her.

Bitting the inside of her cheek, Izzy turned a tight circle around the traffic cone, knuckles taunt as she tightened her grip on the wheel, and completed her orbit. Safely out of the turn, a small smile crept up on her face, then blossomed into a full blown smile as she cheered, happily surprised by her feat.

“Oh my God, that was awesome!”

“Knew you could do it,” was Colt’s cheeky reply, earning a glare from the driver before she shook her head. “Yeah right, you just said I was going to embarrass myself,” Izzy cocked an eyebrow at him. “Doesn’t matter who else believes in you. You gotta believe in yourself.”

Izzy blinked at his words, at the truth and sincerity in them. She grinned. “You should take your own advice,” she laughed, crossing her arms. Colt returned her funny look. “Doesn’t matter if your dad believes in you in not,” she spoke again, though she made sure to disguise her true feelings on the matter. As suffocating as her own father was, it would crush her if he didn’t love and believe in her. Her current double-life pressed the guilt thickly onto her, and she pushed the intrusive thoughts aside. “Funny, don’t think I’ll be taking family advice from you...” Colt replied, oblivious to her inner stressing. “But I guess you’re right. Still, easier said than done.”

Izzy nodded once, both of them settling into a silence that for once was charged with their usual hostile banter. “What isn’t?” she whispered to herself. It wasn’t until she looked up that she noticed the quiet way Colt studied her. He didn’t look away and she flushed under his gaze. “What?” she snapped, praying there wasn’t something ghastly on her face. Or in her teeth. Colt smirked, but just as quickly as the corner of his lips quirked up, they relaxed. Izzy licked hers reflexively, and a chill went down her spine as she noticed Colt watching the movement, his eyes on her lips now.

No. No way was this happening. Izzy had prided herself on saving her first kiss for her first serious boyfriend. It was a lofty goal at best, and an unattainable wish at worst. She’d had no luck in high school, no time really, and now as a senior about to head to college in a few months, her resolve had waned. Colt leaned in, tentative, as if giving her an out. Izzy felt herself lean forward instead, light brown eyes starring back into his chocolate ones. They were reflective, his teasing nature gone for the moment.

He reached a hand over to tuck her hair behind her ear, and Izzy’s breath hitched. Of all the crazy and exciting things to happen to her in the past few days, and even weeks, this was what felt the most out of her element.

“Maybe-“

Izzy wasn’t sure how she planned to finish the rest of the sentence once Colt’s lips pressed against hers. Soft, sure, right. Izzy was pleasantly surprised, sinking deeper into the kiss as her eyes fluttered shut. She felt him smile against her, and Izzy pulled back ever so slightly.

“Wow, I-“

Again she was cut off. Sure, it was probably his rude way of telling her to shut up, but she didn’t mind. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling Colt flush against her. Finally he pulled back and relaased her. Izzy sorted through her rush of emotions to find the most valid one. “Let’s get you to your test,” he finally said, as Izzy settled on lust. It was just the fleeting rush of repressed hormones that had led to what transpired between them.

It changed nothing about how she felt for Logan. Logan. Had Colt kissed her just because of some stupid rival between the two knuckleheads? What was he trying to prove?

“Don’t think you’re special. That kiss didn’t mean anything.” Izzy narrowed her eyes, reaching for the car door to let herself out and switch places. If he was affected by her words and suddenly harsh tone, he didn’t let it show. In fact, he probably wasn’t affected. And Izzy would have held on to her hot and familiar flash of anger if Colt’s words hadn’t made her pause. “Chill out Parker, I’m not a complete asshole.” He took a breath as if to continue, but thinking better of it, he turned from Izzy and opened the door on his side. For a kiss that meant nothing, she would replay it over and over in head, smiling before she chastised herself for being so stupid.

The couple who bonded over chaos and on the surface it looks like they're one mean pair but watching just the two of them together living in the moment like they're the only ones in the world, is a different kind of solace (hankisa, Bajitora)

SilentAuror Recs

After posting my rec for War Wounds and reminiscing with @romaine2424, I decided to do a short reclist to celebrate SilentAuror. Her fics were uploaded on AO3 last year and for those who would like to check older classics, I can’t imagine a better place to start - SA’s catalogue has almost 80 pre-2010 Drarry fics, mostly Mature and Explicit works, exploring all kinds of tropes. Some common themes are spy or redeemed Draco, Harry’s bi awakening and internalized homophobia, war angst and post-war case fic / get together. It’s fascinating to read her take on Drarry and recognize all the similarities and differences compared to new fics in terms of tropes, characterization and world building. I’ve listed below my 12 favorites but I highly recommend going through all that juicy catalogue. Enjoy!

In the Middle of Nowhere (E, 2.5k) - I couldn’t leave a road trip fic out of this list, especially when it comes with scorching watersports! Short but very hot, tender and sweetly intimate 💦

Road trips through rural America get dull pretty quickly... Warning!! This fic contains WS!!

Graffiti and Insomnia (E, 4k) - love myself some good inappropriate sexting at work, the bathroom graffiti idea is so clever and despite being a short PWP this has delightful banter and top notch characterization.

Harry can't seem to sleep these days. Perhaps it's the boredom of his office job, but all that changes with a bit of graffiti in the office bathroom one day.

Want (M, 4.5k) - sexy clubbing fic, baby! I love this take on “Slytherin orgies are better, let’s join them” and oof my heart skipped a beat watching bad boy Draco seducing a shy Harry on the dance floor, public sex ftw 🔥 scorching chemistry and some Draco/Blaise teasing, win/win for me!

Everyone knew the Slytherins went out on Friday nights, but Harry never used to be jealous...

In the Dark/The Trap (M, 8k) - grim and tense, this quiet fic follows Drarry getting stuck in a sinister house and falling together like there’s no tomorrow. Great h/c vibes

Due to a Misapparition in the middle of the war, Harry wakes to find himself stranded somewhere with a concussion, Malfoy, and no way out.

Old City Jasmine (E, 8k) - bodyguard Draco being a badass on the job and quietly pining for Harry is everything I need. Perfect mix of electric ust and a very gentle slow burn. The gorgeous Damascus aesthetics make this fic even more special, I’m itching to write another rec!

Harry is woken suddenly one night when Death Eaters break into his flat and is whisked away to Damascus and the wonder of the ancient world.

Spinner's End (E, 18k) - one of my favourite war fics, I can’t believe how much world building and character SA packed under 20k. I’m so charmed by young and clumsy Draco and Harry navigating their feelings while stuck in Snape’s old house, which becomes a comforting refuge for them during the war. The soft ending with their friends warms my heart every time.

The war is in full swing when Harry is forced to spend an unexpected stint in Spinner's End.

Portrait of a Headmaster (E, 20k) - catch me drooling over these two daddies going from enemies to lovers while working in forced proximity to save Hogwarts. I love the unusual premise of Headmaster Draco, and the adult horny tension between them is *chef’s kiss*

When Death Eaters find their way into the Hogwarts portrait collection, the Headmaster is forced to work with the Head Auror to find a way to protect the castle, including their own children.

Agnus Dei (M, 20k) - perfect friends to lovers Auror fic where Harry and Draco decide to join a church choir out of boredom. Um yes please??? Love love love their close friendship and easy intimacy, this is a perfect bedtime read!

Post-Hogwarts. Mystery abounds in the Auror Department, and two of the Aurors find themselves experiencing a friendship more intense than it should be.

Glamour (E, 22k) - classic gender-bending fic with straight Harry falling for female Draco first, and eventually coming to terms with his sexuality. Featuring the drama of awkward transformations mid-sex and sweet pining Draco handling a frustrating Harry in denial, here’s the sinfully hot porn we deserve!

Post-war: Harry is given an assignment: to assist Draco Malfoy as he carries out a month-long disguise that turns out to reveal more than it hides in the end. Warnings: EWE, gender-bending.

War Wounds (E, 30k) - a cathartic post-war fic with Harry and Draco bonding over shared trauma and going from friends to lovers in a quite organic way. Feat. confused bi Harry going through a sexuality crisis, seductive yet vulnerable Draco and a beautiful get together, sexy and intimate. Warnings below.

Some wounds take longer to recover from than others. HP/DM, with background HP/GW. Themes of alcoholism, love triangles, and dubious fidelity.

Allegiance and Sedition (E, 99k) - double agent Draco and jaded Harry get lonely and horny at the safe house and go from casual fuck buddies to lovers. This is raw, angsty and complicated and I love it. Lots of rough sex, confusing feels and a great character arc, be warned for a few character deaths though :(

The war is in its fifth year, and Harry finds himself caught up in the confusion of friend versus enemy, spy versus traitor. cw: MCD (not Harry or Draco)

Walking the Line (E, 179k) - possibly SA’s most popular fic, this classic shows spy Draco falling in love while on bodyguard duty and giving his all to protect Harry during the war. An epic romance featuring a decent amount of epistolary identity porn, gorgeous character development and a tense, intriguing Horcrux hunt as a treat!

Sixth year is over and Draco Malfoy is on the run. The war is on and an unwanted assignment is forced upon him by the only people he trusts - and a one-time arch-enemy just may be out to kill him.

It’s time for a mid-year report on all the tv I’ve been watching since my last update in March. In a surprising turn, I was sucked into the kdrama vortex in March thanks to the first kdrama I’ve ever watched, Sisyphus the Myth. Then I needed more Cho Seung Woo content which then led to perusing Netflix to fill up my queue and watching more kdramas that were currently airing (Doom At Your Service being a fave). I love that kdramas have all the tropes and mashed-up genres and so far none have gone to the terrible grimdark place of no hope. I’ve finished 13 kdramas so far and counting. (*kdramas noted)

finished or caught up with: 

Sisyphus the Myth* - Loved it and I have a completely different take on the ending. Cho Seung Woo and Park Shin Hye kicked ass.

Debris - I enjoyed it, especially the two-part au episodes, but not heartbroken it was cancelled.

Stranger/Secret Forest* - My #1 kdrama so far! Murder mystery/political thriller ftw. Cho Seung Woo and Bae Doona are everything.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - They did a great job with Bucky and Sam but why did all the women have to get shafted for that to happen.

Shadow and Bone - A fun, fast-paced season. Loved everyone but surprised how much I loved Helnik cause I’m not a big fan of them in the books.

Life* - My third Cho Seung Woo drama about a messy battle between a hospital and it’s new parent company. CSW x dogs ftw.

Cinderella and the Four Knights* - My first kdrama romcom. A little cheesy but I had a good time. Park So Dam from Parasite is a great heroine.

My Holo Love* - An interesting love triangle between a woman with face-blindness, an AI hologram, and the hologram’s creator. This is underrated.

Doom At Your Service* - This show is fantastic! My #3 kdrama. A woman with terminal cancer calls for doom and is surprised when Doom shows up on her doorstep. It’s got romance, comedy, drama, fantasy, symbolism, and philosophy. It also subverts several tropes--first love, love triangle, second lead syndrome--in interesting ways. I watched this live and was living for the metas and gifs. It has my favorite steamy kdrama kiss (in the rain no less)!

So I Married the Anti Fan* - An enemies to lovers very loosely based on Pride and Prejudice, where a reporter gets fired due to a misunderstanding with a kpop idol only to end up on a reality show together to save both their reputations. The first half was a bit cringey on how mean they were to each other but, once they overcame their differences, they had one of the most genuine and unshakeable relationships.

Tunnel* - A time-travel murder mystery that was well paced and interesting. The last five minutes didn’t make sense in their effort for a happy ending but I enjoyed the ride.

Vincenzo* - My #2 kdrama! A lawyer for the Italian mob returns to his home country of Korea. This is such a crazy ride! There’s over-the-top comedy but there’s also great fight scenes and murder. It’s got found family, action, revenge, romance, a gold heist, great villains, stylish fashions, and all the slo-mo your heart desires. lol In more ways than one, this is ‘art’. *wink*

Run On* - This romantic drama on a professional runner and his translator snuck up on me. Very relatable as it’s about people at personal and professional crossroads. 

Boys Over Flowers* - Okay, I completely get the hype over Lee Min Ho now. I LOVE the characters in this but it’s a 100% a soapy soap and I was so mad at everyone for constantly making terrible decisions. With the time jump at the halfway mark, the show slowed down the constant drama a bit which helped. I have a real love/hate with this one but I think it’s definitely worth watching.

The Heirs* - Don’t hate me but I enjoyed this show; it has all the tropes. I’m on Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye kick. (Though why was PSH’s character so mopey.) This show was also unintentionally funny for me because I’ve lived in LA for the past 16 years and their filming locations to actual geography was completely off. The “Malibu” pier where they go surfing is actually the Huntington Beach pier in Orange County. When they get chased from his Malibu home, the next scene is them running down Vine (near Capitol Records) which is an hour drive from Malibu; then after they run through Hollywood and Highland mall, they don’t go next door to the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater; instead they go a theater in San Diego!!! is which a four-hour drive away. I was dying with laughter, I had to pause the show.

Never Have I Ever - This show continues to be awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed the disaster of Devi trying to date both boys. And I have picked an endgame: Team Ben. Though I’m cool with Devi dating Paxton in the meantime.

Her Private Life* - A museum curator falls for her new boss while she tries to hide her secret life as a kpop idol-obsessed fangirl. They do a great job respecting the fandom life but aren’t afraid to let us laugh with the characters and there are some steamy makeout scenes. Also, super pretty as it’s about ‘art’ and life.

currently watching: 

Outer Banks - A Goonies-like treasure hunt, rich vs. poor classicism, romance, and teen shenanigans. Binging in time for S2 later this week.

Crash Landing On You* - Yes, I have finally started the romcom kdrama everyone has been raving about. Enjoying so far.

The Witch’s Diner* - A drama about a witch who makes wishes come true for a price.

Sen Çal Kapımı - I watched the first 11 episodes of this Turkish romcom and loved it but needed a break.

Lucifer - I got to that the Dan episode and couldn’t make it through. Does this season feel slow to anyone else?

Queen of the South - I started the final season but it got put on the back burner for now. At least, I know it’s a happy ending.

Legends of Tomorrow - I started watching the new season live but kdramas are still my jam.

Catradora! :)

Why I ship them (or why I do not): I love them soooo much. Childhood best friends to enemies to lovers excellence. I think despite all the bad that happened between them, they are ultimately each other’s home and safe place. And I’m so glad that they can now heal and be happy together and love each other the way they’ve always wanted to.

My favorite moment between them: You all know what my favorite moment is lol. Love confession and kiss ftw 😭 Shoutout to their dance at princess prom though, which made my enemies to lovers heart happy.

My least favorite moment between them: Probably the ending of The Promise, just because it broke my heart. I understand why it happened narratively though.

The character I prefer: I love them both soooo much but if I’m being honest…I prefer Adora by a small margin. I just have such a big soft spot for her and she hits a lot of my favorite hero tropes. But I love Catra a lot and my love for her has grown since I feel the need to defend her from all the hypocritical haters.

A fanfic idea for them that I would love to read or write: I would love to read a fic where Catra actually does decide to deflect from the Horde with Adora in S1 but their relationship issues still obviously don’t immediately go away. I think it would be interesting to see how they would heal from their trauma, fix their relationship problems, and eventually become a couple without the full-blown enemy phase. Also ANY good Catra as She-RA AU’s. Feel free to rec me some 👀

As for writing…I may or may not have a pirate AU plot bunny in my head right now.

What I would have changed about how canon handled them if I could:

Tbh I’m pretty satisfied with how Catradora was handled for the most part. There’s not a lot I’d change. I would have liked to actually see them as a couple on the show but I know how hard ND Stevenson had to fight just to make them canon in the end so I’m not going to be ungrateful.

I think there’s a clear lack of canon-compliant/divergent stories from the S1-S3 era told from Mickey’s point of view. And I kinda understand why. 

Ian is easier to read and therefore easier to write, while Mickey basically has the cards laid out in front of him, so you kinda lose the does he like me, does he hate me enigma that’s so fun to play with and explore. But the absolute whirlwind that’s Mickey’s conflicting emotions? Mwah! Magnifique!
