…I’ve been sending EPIC: The Musical headcanon ideas all this time, and it only just now occurred to me that the very plot of Morpheus’ return home and his quest to find his tools could literally be turned into an Odyssey!AU where the reader is in Penelope’s position of Queen and having to fend off would-be suitors whilst Morpheus waits for his chance to escape imprisonment.

Like all the other realms coming to ask for your hand and maybe instead of weaving tapestry and undoing it at night maybe you flip a sand clock and every night you flip it back just to start all over again. Lucifer once asks for your hand, and you have to always deny them and point to the clock saying when the last grain drops then you will choose.

Lucienne being your only confidant who knows of your plan and keeps telling you that Morpheus will return. And you respond with ‘I know … he is not dead yet, I know my husband will come back’

Maybe the impossible task to satiate the suitors is you have a vile of Morpheus’s sand, and whoever can weave a new dream you will marry.

Also if there is tons of suitors perhaps dreams and nightmares, fae, demons, and such are trying to climb to the top of the empty throne then it also brings up the thought that Morpheus sneaks in and kills them (or simply banishes them away).

And on an interesting thought unlike how Odysseus loses a bit of his humanity, Morpheus somehow finds it on his journey back to you. He learns to cherish you more, and how yes he loved you but some of his time was spent focused on the Dreaming and not on you.

Depending on the story, those steps might technically be laws.
